I can't get your yakuza headcanons out of my mind, Daitou's got me in a chokehold and I'm not complaining, like--

in regards to that doodle you made to show height difference between reader and the boys [I love your art btw (●♡∀♡)] - I can't picture myself in reader's style, I'm currently going through my goth phase in my 20s lmao; picture a big bitch with tattoos and messy hair who's listening to nothing but 2000s hits and screamo bands - so I'd like to request a headcanon of how Daitou would react to a gender-neutral reader like this :D I also like to incorporate the idea of them once being in a famous band that he's a fan of! (sorry if this seems like a lot, I have a huge imagination hehe)

but if he's more into the cute and helpless type, I'll just walk my ass out the door and yeehaw my way into another yandere's arms ✌😔

That's on me for not drawing the reader inserts as cartoonish cinder blocks :') In truth I'm a little bit embarrassed seeing how many likes that doodle has gotten, it was something I put together in a hurry and the clothing was meant to be baggy, shapeless, with not too many folds for the sake of simplicity. I myself am more of a pilgrim goth, just to emphasize the randomness of the choice.

Drawing reader inserts always leaves me a little anxious. If I use a light shade of gray, will people think I'm excluding poc? Will plus sized readers feel like they've been disregarded? What about masculine readers? As someone who's demiromantic I always struggle taking appearance or gender into consideration, because to me it has no influence whatsoever. Which is hard to express when you want to offer blank slate visuals as an extra to the story.

What I'm trying to say is that all of my characters would like you for who you are. Sure, they find your looks cute, but it's not the defining reason. Maybe you have similar traits to them, maybe you're the complete opposite and they find it intriguing. You could be a buff man and Daitou would be just as grateful to have someone who isn't afraid of him. I usually stick to a female reader for bigger stories to avoid messing it up long term, but in the grand scheme of things it makes no difference. I always imagine reader to be a shapeless blob that provides the dialogue I need for the story mood. There's no concrete preference or type for any of my OCs. I mean, ideally you'd like them back and not hang them upside down above a BBQ pit but I feel these are sensible requirements (?).

And now for the actual headcanons since my ramble is over.

First encounter is comically awkward but for reasons you’re unaware of yet. You’re obviously used to people staring at you (more so in a country like Japan), so you were expecting the curious glance every now and then. On the other hand, being under scrutiny, from a man even more unusual looking than you at that, is odd. Mildly uncomfortable. You’re shifting yourself from one leg to another, hoping to be done with the introductions soon.

On his end, Daitou is anxiously fidgeting and trying his best to focus. He’s seen this face before and he can’t shake off the familiar feeling. Where the hell…He obviously can’t downright gawk at you, and he isn’t sure how to politely formulate a question. After several sheepish peeks, it finally dawns on him: weren’t you part of that band he really likes? No, what would the chances be? Then again, how many people out there would look exactly like you? Is it rude to ask? He has no idea. He resumes his mumbled description of the apartment and hands you the papers to be signed.

Back at his place, he finally digs through his merch and sprawls out the available clues. “I didn’t know you were into this kind of music”, Kazuya comments as he looks over the man’s shoulder. He’d come over to ask about the new tenant. “I’m pretty sure it’s them.” He concludes, confidently placing his index over a CD cover. “Huh? Who? The tenant?” Kazuya holds back his chuckle. “Why would a celebrity show up for a shady apartment offer? You’re tripping, man.”

“I’m sorry, this is getting ridiculous.” You finally exclaim, annoyed by the persistent stares of the now two men facing you. You’re standing in front of the apartment building, arms crossed, huffing at the tall scarred man and his blonde friend. “No, I’m sure of it. Even the tattoo is the same.” Daitou turns to whisper to Kazuya, oblivious to your complaints. In turn, Kazuya lightly elbows him, mouthing something about being rude. “Just ask them, man.” He adds, this time louder. “Ask me what??” You groan. “W-were you…um…in this band by any chance?” Daitou manages to blurt out, searching his pocket for the CD case and ceremoniously laying it under your eyes.

Ah. It finally clicks and you exhale, relieved. You confirm their suspicions and show them some backstage photos to solidify your claim. You ask Daitou if he wants an autograph or something, then swiftly scribble your signature on a piece of paper and hand it out to him. He holds it with a wide, childish grin. “You’re a weird one, you know? You could’ve just asked. I guess I didn’t expect to find a fan in the wild, especially here.” Daitou carefully folds the souvenir, eyes lidded with nostalgia. “Oh yes, it’s great. Drowns out the screams.”

I do have a few questions, as one creator to another. I don't post at the moment, but I do love making art, especially for my fanfic/original projects.

Can you tell me how you do it? Like how can you stay motivated and be able to post almost every day?

Any tips maybe on how to deal with artblocks and burnouts?

How do you pratice certain art styles and be able to do them accurately?

1. It’s because I really really REALLY like what I’m drawing right now. (gay monkies). Plus I have- an endgame lets say. I have a clear ending for my comics and reaching that point is what keeps me going, but I also ONLY draw what I want to draw, not EVERYTHING that needs to be shown for the endgame. This actually helped me go throught my ISAT AU comic.

It’s like- narrating a roadtrip. The ending is your destination, you can’t wait to arrive there, but first you know there’s a long road ahead. But you don’t actually need to describe/draw every single town / city / landscape to go there. Not every single kilometer of a roadtrip is a mouth-dropping view.

That’s why you can just-skip it. Stay 4 chapter at one diner if you like the set, focus a chapter on the protagonists looking at the stars, start a scene somewhere completely different, completely skip 30% of the road. As long as you can imply with details what was in between, you don’t need to show/write it in details if you feel it would be hard to make interesting, or just not your thing.

Also if you start to grow an audience and people ask you to draw/write certain things that you don’t feel like to, or just feel like they are extras, don’t do it.

Not because you can’t, but the MOMENT something that you create starts to feel like you are doing it for the audience, then you are not actually doing something yours, and from then on it’s gonna be harder and harder to do things. Like, I have hundreds of fanarts that I did on my IG that were mostly directed to my audience, and not something that I just did because of fun.

All of this is also- answering to your second question - for not burning out. All of this is for keeping your passion up. I’m not talking about mental or physical energy. You could be dead tired (like I am many times) but still be fueled do draw for hours. Because you’re drawing only exactly what you want.

It took me 4 years to understand. I used to do this in high school. Draw something just for the hell of it. It was harder back then, because drawing was hard. I arrived to a point where drawing is much easier (also cause I draw almost everyday for 6/8 hours.) and after I was healed from my broken arm this july, it became my drug. I understood I can’t live without drawing what’s in my head, and that (unless it’s specifically for work) I don’t wanna draw something that’s not only what I want.

I want you to arrive to the point that your drawings / fanfictions are so much exactly what you envisioned /wanted that you fangirl about them. That you read/watch them and squeak in delight. Because even if no one likes them, you must be crazy about them.

(I’ll make a post about this in the future, because it literally changed how I draw after years and it brought back my passion for art after 10 years, but rn it’s a little late and I wanna draw my LMK au so I’ll stop now)

𝐇𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐖𝐎 𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐌. This was the norm with idols. Nothing was wrong with such a premise you surmised, as only fools would believe their idols act the same on camera and behind. It was simple. They had an image and a personality, two completely different things in the entertainment world.

Hayate’s image was this brash, straight to the point, no nonsense person. A man who did not care much about looks, but was completely devoted to the art of music. A startling contrast to his angel like singing voice. Gap Moe, as his fans and manager would put it.

Hayate’s personality behind the cameras however, is what you would say an almost complete one-eighty.

The bi-colored haired boy was total skincare fanatic, he loved fashion, planning out his looks, journaling, and working out for the sake of keeping his body in shape. You say almost because he was incredulously meticulous either-way. You never met a man who was so passionate that it often infected you to do the same in your career and life. He enjoyed idol-work, breathed it, and deserved every bit of success he’d gotten so far.

He was also, still brash even behind the scenes.

“Why the hell would you be jealous of me?” To many, Hayate’s voice was intimidating — rough, and quite loud. It was jarring to see him switching from his speaking one to his singing. But to you who had spend far too long with this man, it was normal. And sometimes normal was something to crave for.

And boy did Hayate enjoy those normal moments between you two.

“Hayate, who wouldn’t be jealous of a man whose group had won several awards in their rookie years, now topping every chart.”

“A complete All-Kill, innit?” Your co-worker spoke from a couple of feet away. He was in charge of styling Hayate’s mess of a hair. The two of you are the only people capable of being physically close to him, aside from his members without being mauled. And you mean mauled in every sense of the term.

“Besides that, you’re just so motivated all the time. It’s like you have endless energy to do what you have to do.”

You noticed Hayate visibly relax, his tense posture almost escaping your eyes earlier. You make a mental note to bring him out to rest again one day. Most likely after your pay-day. Hayate always offered to pay for stuff you two bought on an outing but you just couldn’t do him like that.

Your co-worker chimed in again, “Meanwhile [Y/N] is here downing several [Fave Caffeinated Drink] just to get through the day.”

“Why are you here again?” You and Hayate deadpanned in sync, earning a laugh from all three of you in the room.

“I just . . . have a good. . . source of motivation.” The singer gave you a heavy, alluring stare. His muscle tee allowing you to view his neck slowly turning scarlet.

“He’s all red.”

“Fuck, I completely forgot to blend his neck! Wait, where’s my foundation brush?!” You screeched, running out to find wherever it could have gotten to in the building, knowing you most likely forgot it in the another member’s room. Either completely unaware of Hayate’s intense look, or simply too dense to understand the connotation of it.

Your colleague snorted as the door closed behind you, “You’re going to have to be more obvious than that lover boy, they’re worse than a brick wall.”

“. . .”

“Not even a sure, mate?” The British man sighed. It was always like this. Whenever you were out Hayate would just go silent. Only ever speaking to direct the stylist’s actions. You always insisted that your client saw you two as equal as you’ve never witnessed him acting this way, and every time the hair stylist spoke to you about it he could feel the menacing glare down his spine just provoking him to speak so that Hayate would pounce at an excuse to fire and sue him for defamation.

Once he was done styling the idol’s hair, Mr. Co-Worker backed off immediately. Knowing full well of the consequences of lingering around Hayate any longer.

“I’m back!” You hollered, a limp on your step due to a large man glomping you from behind.

“And who’s that behind you?” Your co-worker sighed. With you around his risk of dying goes down by at least 70%.

“Ehe.” But with Eve of all people to rile Hayate up, he’ll have to crank those chances back up again. The visual of the group had apparently stolen it earlier when he came by to do his daily dues in pushing Hayate one step further to an aneurysm. It was an important duty he had to fulfill as a member of Yesterday’s Dawn, and bringing you into the mix happened to annoy the vocalist the most.

“Don’t ehe me, Soo-bitch! Get the hell out of my make-up room!”

Eve smooches you on the cheek before promptly sticking his tongue out, “BLEGHHHHHH!!!”

You froze in response.

You see the veins protruding on Hayate’s temples and neck, reminding you of the job you came into the room to properly finish. Angry Hayate was something you haven’t seen in a while, but experienced has taught you not to react much and proceed with your job as if he isn’t planning several ways of mutilation at the moment.

It worked as moments later he calmed down and began chatting with you again.

Perhaps you should retract your judgment of his character. Hayate didn’t have sides he just had layers, and you his beloved make-up artist, were in the deepest one.

Nighttime is my favourite time of the day. Being surrounded by this natural darkness and silence (not in the way, in which I have to “mute” the world all day long by shutting the blinds and wearing noise cancelling headphones to avoid being overstimulated) makes me feel…safe. Almost content.

In some nights, I’m even strong enough to leave my room, so I can sit outside on my balcony, enjoying a fresh breeze on my face. The world is silent, there’s no car on the streets and all I see, is the Moselle glistening in the moonlight in front of me. Finally feeling human again…

During the phases of my crashes, I can’t even step outside to my balcony. Sometimes I’m desperate enough to crawl outside, when my legs are refusing to do their goddamn job even with the help of my cane! In these moments, I��m glad to be alone…without any witnesses to my humiliation.

Last night was a lost night. I passed out…again. It scares me to hell that these moments are happening more often nowadays. All I know, is that I sat down on my bed…crying from exhaustion and pain. And hours later, when I’m coming back to consciousness, I’m still in the same sitting position. There are proofs in my room, that my children must have been here…proofs like a drawing lying next to me on my bed…a plushie sitting on my coffee table, watching over me. And I know that my kids will tell me, that I didn’t wake up…no matter what they tried to do.

Yesterday a friend of mine wanted to visit me in order to enjoy a cup of tea with me in the darkness of my room. I was so excited to see her…to have someone here for a little while…to feel less lonely for a moment. My body ached so badly and my exhaustion felt like a truck, who was parking on me…so I passed out whilst I was waiting for my friend to come over. When I came back to senses, there were several text messages and several calls from her. She was upset, that I didn’t hear the doorbell, both of my phones and her knocking on the door. So, after a while, she left…and all what’s left for me is a feeling of being a total failure…a pathetic shadow of myself.

There’s still no cure for ME/CFS…and no one knows, if there’d ever be one. All I can do, is trying different things, and yet…nothing helped me. With each new crash I’m falling deeper into the void of darkness and despair. Each new crash takes its toll on me…takes a piece of me away! I’m so afraid of losing myself completely!

When I commissioned my friend @sleepybradipo for this meaningful piece of art, I begged him to make the trust between Severus and Julia - but also their despair - palpable. They’re searching for a way to heal Jules…to cure her body and her soul. Maybe the answer lies in the Dark Arts…who knows? These lovers will try anything possible in order to save her…just like I wished to be saved.

Ivano, when I got the idea for this project, I just knew, that you would be the best artist to make my dream come true. Your tender style makes my heart swell with so much love and gratitude. I adore your work and the dedication to all these marvellous details in this artwork…it’s everything, I hoped to see, when I described my idea to you. Thank you for helping me to soothe my troubled heart and mind with your beautiful art and your kind words. I’m beyond grateful that I met you here, my friend. You’re truly a blessing to me. thank you so much for writing mandatory family reunion. i just reread it for the eighth time. i think im going to dedicate my life to life to reading your other sbi fics until you update again. also; do you have any tips for committing to fics and not leaving them half-finished?

ahhhh that’s so sweet glad you enjoyed! As for writing fics, having it be your special interest really helps. But for more general advice on finishing:

-Don’t stick to just one story. Which seems counter intuitive! But inevitably you’re going to hit a snag in one story. So instead of stopping writing at all, switch projects. Writing involves a whole bunch of thinking, and stuff needs time to percolate in the back of your head. But having a small project to work on in the mean time keeps you engaged in the writing process, gives you practice, makes you feel like you’re making progress, and allows time to work out the other story. I personally have 1-2 main projects, Fault and MFR, and then rotate a couple back burner stories that I work on whenever I get inspiration and fully expect to have very slow progress and possibly never finish. Short stories, one shots, hell even just writing little one off scenes that don’t go anywhere. It’s a way to keep writing fun and thus you’re more likely to continue working on the stuff you’re trying to complete. Don’t feel bad if there’s breaks between working on your main project. Writing involves a lot of thinking and it takes time to do that.

-Devoting time to do that thinking also significantly helps. When you’re falling asleep can be a good time to rotate stories in your head. Could also be if you’re walking from place to place, or brushing your teeth, or other little gaps in the day. Even if you’re not physically writing, it’s still part of the process and can make it easier when you actually sit down to write because you know what scene you’re most excited to work on. Also, talking over your story idea with a friend is a great way to stay motivated if you can get over the mortifying ordeal of being known. You can bounce ideas off them, and other people’s investment in a project can be a great motivator to finish. Like legit a single ao3 comment once stopped me from my plan to abandon a fic. Reminding yourself why you (and other people) like the story makes it easier to want to continue.

-Keeping a rough outline of what you envision for the story can give you a road map to how close to done you are and where to go next. Just like you can hop between projects, I find jumping around the plot time line to write what scene I’m most interested in atm keeps me going instead of writing everything in order. Though, all writers have different degrees of plot planning, so that depends on your style.

-Art! I’m an artist, and while writing definitely fuels what I draw, I find doodling cool scenes I want to write really inspires me to keep going. This sorta falls under the same category of continuing to think about the story and motivating you to finish. -I found keeping a writing journal has improved how I view my writing. Basically, I’ll jot down a bullet point list of scenes worked on that week/month. Writing is a very slow process, so seeing a timeline of actual progression on a story makes it feel like I’m actually getting more out of my head and onto paper. I also jot down what ideas for scenes I came up with since that’s also part of writing, and might include a chill no stakes writing goal for that period, like work on X or Y project, or a particular scene. Sometimes my goal is just ‘write at least one sentence’. I give it lots of leeway, and accept that the muse may just be somewhere else that week. And if the goal isn’t met, no sweat! Life can get busy at times and it’s more important that you aren’t beating yourself up if it’s been awhile since you last touched a project. Forcing yourself to write a scene that isn’t ready won’t result in a good scene or an happy writer. Switch projects, give yourself time to think about it, take care of yourself, etc.

And, legitimately, don’t be afraid to abandon a piece. Maybe you’ll come back to it, maybe you won’t. It can feel disheartening to feel like you can’t seem to finish a project, but unfinished pieces also do a lot for you: they hone your craft, allow you a creative outlet, give you scenes that could potentially be reworked for later pieces, and most importantly were hopefully fun to write! Story crafting is a hobby that should bring you joy, not frustration and shame.

Like, I have stories that will never see the light of day and are just so I can have fun and poke it with a stick occasionally. I’m 100% confident in saying that every author will have tenfold the number of unfinished wips compared to complete works. That’s just part of the creative process: exploring different worlds to find the one you want to write.

Perhaps a fic might never get finished, but in the wise words of Technoblade: “if you enjoy it, it’s not time wasted, no?”

'Smiths' can encompass enginesmiths (mercury), armoursmiths (mars), alchemists (saturn) and some others - generally a smith is someone who works with engines or metal in any capacity, whether by constructing them, managing their fuel, making armour, etc. all of them have a completely degendered role in the church. They are supposed to be wholly devoted to their craft & church, to the point of becoming almost unpeople, sexless.

I like pantera :) he's the main character beast sure (alongside leun) but he's got a lot of interesting history and has been through a lot.

To start out I do some basic sketches while looking at bestiary diagrams of the animal type. Then I draw the base proportions over a photo of the animal's skeleton. Once the joints are all in place and I could imagine it moving relatively freely, I pick a motif and design the armour shapes with that in mind (i.e leun's trefoils, taurus's waves). The motifs come from a bunch of sources - if I see them in medieval art around that animal, the beast's use purpose, the culture that built them and how it might differ in art styles to the 'basic' designs from the heart of the Mezian theocracy. Fun stuff like that.

As an exercise I have taken (human) characters from other settings and made holy beast versions of them, trying to imagine what animal it would be, what weapons, what armour designs, etc. Behold, Bowman:

Hi! Thank you for the suggestion! I actually did try to use OneNote for my thesis but I found that it ended up an extra step that got in the way. Instead I organised my reference papers manually (and wrote up all my bibliography by hand as well). I haven't heard of Notion so I might look into it :> as someone with adhd I find that the best way for me is to make it stupid easy, which is why discord works because I already use it for talking with friends and I like the mobile app.

Sir Heaven had such a profoundly negative experience with Leun that he struggles with the concept of making anybody else do what he now considers to be his burden. He also feels that taking any new people inside Leun would endanger them.

The bishop of Salvius cathedral is the guy Heaven answers to, and his superior officer. The bishop has reported the matter to the pope and they're still working hard presenting new potential novices to Sir Heaven, but the thing is that Sir Heaven rejects them for seemingly valid reasons. He doesn't just say 'no I'm not taking apprentices', he says 'this one's reaction speed isn't good enough' or 'this one is too prideful'. But the longer he tries to keep this up, the more suspicion he heaps on his shoulders. If the time came, no, he would not be able to deny a direct order from the pope.

Ketjan was selected at random, one of a large group of other children who were not raised in the church. This is to ensure that there is no per-existing bias or knowledge of how holy beasts work. And he just happened to be the only one of the group who could master Leun's very demanding dialogue tattoo. The recruiting enginesmiths, who designed Leun's systems, were the ones to train him, but Ketjan was the one to write most of the procedures for operating Leun based on feedback from the dialogue.

Krokodilos had an amazing high-tech ventilation system that used active air pumps to keep it circulating. But exactly like the second reply says, it broke down frequently. And because of how it worked, the interior of croc had to be air-tight so that the pumps could work efficiently. And, of course, if it broke down, and it was air tight on the inside, it instantly became a more dangerous deathtrap than your average passively ventilated beast.

There were valves that could be opened in an emergency but these were only added after the first Incident. The pumps would break down from the fabric seals degrading, lose efficacy, and then the parts furthest from the pumps would suddenly not get enough air anymore because air couldn't be moved such a distance with faulty pumps. The reason his enginesmiths want him to be re-commissioned is because the only barrier was the material used for the seals, and they believe they can innovate some new materials or try something different and have it work. They were even thinking of trying natural rubber, which would have worked perfectly, but they never got approval for it.

- went to college as an education major, wanted to specifically work as an elementary school teacher!

- genuinely believes in the concept of magic (which TBF is real in Stardew) and will defend her belief to death

- she was so excited to have a daughter so she could dress her up in cute costumes and outfits, Jas was about 3 months old on her first Halloween and she had the most elaborate fairy costume on Earth

- Was put off by Jason's flirting at first bc she completely misunderstood his relationship with Shane and genuinely thought those two had a thing for a bit, even though they didn't (Def walked up to Shane like "hey just wanted to let you know your bf is hitting on me 🫤" "MY WHAT???")

- once she found out she was wrong, she finally reciprocated Jason's flirting and asked him out for their first date

- Took the film class she met Shane and Jason in initially because it was the only available class of a credit type she needed. She's happy she took it in the end

- Both of her parents passed, and like Shane, was raised by her aunt. That aunt passed away while she was in college though :(

- got into gridball to be a supportive gf to Jason at first, but soon became a huge enjoyer of it and the Tunnelers specifically!

- very much the level-headed and chill one in the relationship, she keeps Jason down to Earth

- loves storytelling, and was great at it. She had a genuine gift for doing different voices and making the books she read sound fun. Her students loved it

- like Jason, is fairly tall, standing at 5'10

- Jas looks JUST like her, just with Jason's hair color. Everything else is like an exact duplicate of Amelia though

- loves jewelry, specifically fun and funky earrings! She has a decent collection of them

- an amazing cook, she just generally has the knack for it! She can look at pretty much any dish and know what she needs to do to make it

Jason

- he was a visual arts major, like Shane! He genuinely wanted to be a movie producer one day

- He was also on a gridball scholarship like Shane, and while it was a big passion, he didn't plan on going pro with it

- a very goofy and funny guy, flirted with Amelia using the corniest pick up lines (they worked though so he considers it a win)

- TOTAL WIFE GUY he loves Amelia very much and would do anything for her

- also a total girldad, he was so excited to find out he was having a daughter, like running down the street cheering excited

- his family disowned him after he came out as bisexual, so he really doesn't have anyone. This fact also helped him bond a lot with Amelia and Shane,, given that all three of them didn't have much family in life.

- he absolutely has a motorcycle and would take Amelia on scenic drives for their dates. She thought it was so romantic!

- he is VERYYYY tall, like 6'4

- very close with a lot of the guys on the varsity gridball team. He's a total social butterfly and has an easy time connecting with a lot of people

- he helps Amelia get out of her shell, just like she helps him stay more grounded

- tried to play a love song for Amelia on guitar for one of their dates. He does not know how to play guitar. She thought it was cute anyways :)

- was very nervous the first time Marnie invited him and Amelia over to the ranch for Winter Star. Since she looks more "traditional" and is religious it reminded him of his family and he was initially worried she'd be like them. She thankfully is not and is a very understanding and accepting person (Shane had to go "dude she helped pay for my top surgery what the hell are you worried about")

- worst cook on earth, he pours cereal into a bowl and it lights on fire (/j but he's BAD at it)

So, uh, I've seen there's been likes, and reblogs (seriously where do y'all come from), and that hypothetically you may be interested in Heaven's side of the same thing -- Oh who am I kidding yes I came up with ideas and couldn't resist sharing, let's go.

(On that note, I'm editing the previous posts that started it all so that y'all have links from one to the other, because a funny thing I realized is that I have completely different people liking each post each time, there's absolutely no common name - which is funny to me given that one is the bonus of the other.)

Without further ado, here we go :

Emily is just the friendliest babysitter around. Not unlike Charlie, she'll react with glee to anything the kid does, especially when they're progressing on something. She's very encouraging and supportive, also accomodating : unless the child is okay with her less humanlike appearance, she'll keep her extra eyes closed, and will only gradually insert the change overtime, while mostly keeping her casual disguise. Touch her fluffy wings ? Her equally fluffy hair ? Even her halo ? Sure ! Just don't nab on them. She'll gently break down what's okay from what is not, that respect is a thing and boundaries too, and for each and every person they're different. Tantrum ? She'll be gentle but firm about it, because while she is nice and caring, she also has limits and reasonable authority. No Bad Things on her watch, and she'll explain why they're bad at length. Doesn't matter if the child is a Sinner, a Hellborn, a Living soul or a Winner. Always eager to let the kid try new things, give the maximum of options, and free choice is a big deal to her - she'll be here to help anytime, and interacts a lot with the kid. Expect a lot of what we don't know, we can find out together ! Might be a bit too coddling at times, though not to Charlie's levels, probably. Affection is given by the gallons.

A drawing of her ? For her ? Why that day in Heaven is super-happy amongst happy days ! Ironically, given the art-style, it's closer to her true form, but nonetheless, she adores it, and can't wait to show Sera. If she can't pin it somewhere, she'll keep it on her own person, in a nice pocket dimension or accessible through summon magic, so she can whip it out at anytime and show it to whoever's asking. Might give it a glance or look at times before turning in for the night (do they have nights in Heaven ? If Hell does, probably yes), squealing out a delighted giggle for herself. She'll presciously keep it safe and spotless.

Sera is poised and regal no matter the circumstances. She's gentle and patient, and while she will take the role of a guiding hand too, contrary to Emily who's happy to let the child steer and put herself on their level, Sera will never leave the role nor status of The Adult and guides away instead of towards. There's a delimited, arbitrary comfort zone the child shouldn't ask questions out of, and she won't be keen simply answering that she doesn't know the answer, deviating it towards something else or just put an end to the discussion (That's not important. What you have to know is that you can't do that). That's not to say that she's uncaring, or harsh, it's just that her worry overwrites the child's choices at times. A demon or Sinner child might be met with a bit more condescention and less roaming freedom than a Living or Winner soul, but Sera will take great care of them nonetheless, and make sure no harm happens to them. Tantrums are met with the time-out corner or cold shoulder, but she doesn't like to punish the kid, only seeing it as a necessity - and she'll still be around to talk in case things get better in the meantime. She's compassionate, but her emotional distance mostly turns it into pity and a dash of coldness, her affection is more subdued. She'll keep her most humanlike form at all times.

Drawings of her ? She'll gladly accept them, giving a soft but genuine smile. She appreciates the attention, and will politely listen to the child explaining how they drew the pic, not really commenting nor asking questions but still sincerely listening about it. She might keep it in a folder or hang it somewhere private, somewhere that doesn't interfere with her work, but still somewhere visible in her own quarters - and that, no matter the type of soul who offers.

Now who in their right mind would give a child to take care of to Adam ? Yet, disaster dominoes lined up - or let's say it's an order from Sera, she's too busy to do it and Emily isn't available - and against all common sense a kid ended up in his... care. Welp, it's a disaster from start to finish, especially when the misogynist tendencies kick in : expect a lot of outdated and downright gross comments about you'll see when you grow up, and do you know how you came from these nuts ? flauntering his "Original Dick" status all over the place. He won't be hitting on a child (not his thing), thank hell, but he has absolutely NO censor, crossing the line all the way up to its deceased grandmother, getting her corpse pregnant and aborting the resulting baby (...QED). Worse if the kid is a girl, because he'll automatically deem her inferior, also did I tell you how the two first women are stupid bitches ? Guess where you come from. If the child is a demon, he'll try to weasel out, but an order from Sera will hold him back and anyway it's no fun when outside the right setting : there's no fight, no chase, no thrill. He'll just begrudgingly roll with it. Don't count on any healthy or child-appropriate food : it's junk food at all hours or nothing. Naptime - well, what naptime ? Can't a guy play guitar in peace ? Also, only pussies cry. Man the fuck up. Kiddo is his groupie whether they like it or not, his personal little hype-man. He will TOTALLY use them to try to hit on "chicks".

He also WILL forget the child in a parking lot, however more unintentionally than not (Wait, didn't I had a thing to take care of ?), rough them around by carrying them like a sack of potatoes, bring them to inappropriate places (tough to find in Heaven, I guess, but if he can have his way with a Virtue angel and brag about it there might be stuff going on, just not as much as in Hell) and just be his crass-mouthed self without much of a care. Might resort to the threat of physical violence as a scare tactic to get the kid to behave (the way he wants), though maybe not applying it (I'm ambivalent about that : I guess it can go both ways - just shaking to rough up and scare off or really giving a smack). Really, the only way to get along with him is to find him cool or admire him in some way, and he might soften a bit (...really a bit) and bond a tad (a tiny tad) over rock music : again, being his hype-man. If Adam gets to show off and have a fan, it'll be just one small metric less of a complete catastrophe.

Which brings us to : drawings of him. Nevermind the quality, he'll always ask to add stuff that makes him cool (No, you forgot the spikes !! And where's the guitar ? Add it ! Here ! Look, just take that bright yellow fucking crayon, it's easy as puss !) and might even rip the drawing material out of the kid's hands to add it himself. The guy will be competitive about it : either he's the coolest or the kiddo might as well redo the entire thing. Once he's satisfied, he'll keep it, frame it in the most extravagant frame he can think of, sign it over the kid's signature and pin it somewhere he can easily see it. With time, he'll forgot who did it (Got that from a fan, er... whatstheirface) and move on, not realizing that his mental age has been forever lower than the kid's he was supposed to take care of.

And as the answer to the infamous "can't get worse", yes it can ! Lute. Bohohoyyyy, LUTE. She's no babysitter, she's a fanatic fighter, a bloodthirsty warrior, and the only thing holding her back from skewering a demon child is a direct order from Sera. So she'll be as neglectful and abusive verbally and emotionally as she can get away with. Cries get on her nerves. Tantrums ? She'll boot the kid in a room and lock them up there for the rest of the day. Sinners and Hellborn aren't given any toys. Food is composed of rests. She doesn't have time for that shit. Even Winner children are barely worth her attention, though she can plaster a semblance of decency on her face towards them - don't expect her to smile, though. She's not here for that. She won't even think of the brat as useful to her, it's like a stupid assignment she got saddled with. A heaven-bound soul ? Bare necessities are taken care of, next to no interaction, no affection given, the sooner it's over with the better. A hell-bound soul ? She'll imprint their features into her mind and make sure to find them, down there, next Extermination. A wretched Sinner shouldn't even set foot near the Pearly Gates. The only thing keeping her from dumping that vile blasphemy of a soul is that she'd rather keep an eye on them herself, because she's the only one strong enough to not fall for any of their traps, for sure.

A drawing of her ? Don't accept anything from a demon and rip it into pieces right then and there. It's just a mockery of her, whatever the quality is, and don't you ever think I can't see what you're doing you little shitstain clinging at my boots. The same drawing from a heaven-bound soul ? Eh. Meh. Thanks I guess. She'll tuck it somewhere, forget about it, and if it has folds or coffee stains or whatever else damaging it, not her problem. Someone finds it ? She'll brush it off, tell them they can keep it, do her a favor, she doesn't have time nor thoughtspace for this. Better than to let it rot here. If it ends up falling in her line of sight again, she'll derive a wicked self-righteous confidence that she's fighting for the right thing. And the thrill of battle, of course, but hey, that one's not on the drawing, so she'll supply it herself, in her mind.

And because why the hell not, St-Peter. If it's a hell-bound soul, he'll ask if there's any mistakes, but nope, he's really gonna babysit a little demon today. Well in that case, no problem, Welcome To Heaven and all that jazz ! Just don't do demon-y things, okay ? Now what would you like to do ? We can go on a seminar about how to help grandmas cross the roads, or how to be parsimonious while partying and oh, oh, how about a coooourse - oooon - generosity ! Past that first hurdle, he'll be a genuinely sweet guy, treating all souls alike. His problem ? Well, two : first, unlike Emily, he has no authority and will get trampled on by any kid who's a bit more stubborn than the norm, and second, his Don't Do That (TM) sermons can. Last. Hours. He'll accidentally cause more naptimes by pointing out the 547 reasons of why littering is bad that when he'd actually asked the child to take a nap, or is too engrossed in his speech to see that the kid has given him the slip. Weak to puppy-dog eyes. He'll buy that ice scream with rainbow sprinkles, okay, okay, don't look at him like that ! But he'll be also a great guide and has a ton of ideas on activities, even if commenting a bit too much about them. Might catch on the fact that his sermon-talking induces sleep and appropriately uses it in a savvy way. He'll stay polite, but without hypocrisy : if a kid points out that he swore earlier when they told him they're Belphegor's 2nd cousin thrice removed, he'll agree, apologize, and explain why it's bad. Kind of cleaning-inclined ? Please keep the brimstones off the floor at least. He'll insist that things are tidied up after playing, leaving a mess isn't the politest thing after all, and will include the kid in that : they can clean up together, he'll help !

A drawing of him ? Depending on what he'll receive, he'll be elated, or really working out his optimism and trying to be as less judgemental as possible. Why aren't you the most precious, kindest soul. Your style is... uh... unique ? Why - why is blood - oh, ooooh, what a fabulous one-single-color rainbow, oh, ahem, that's so sweet ! And look at those little arms NOT up crying for help, but in what I'm sure is excitement ! And those... tears -- of happiness of course ! Ahem, do you need therapy ? But whatever it is, he'll keep it, because he considers it a gift. Just that, depending on the degree of disturbing-ness, it's either on a wall in his office at home, or in a folder under a looong stack of papers and other things he'd rather look at rarely. But he'll still shed a tear over a smile when his babysitting time comes to an end, especially if he actually managed to bond with the kid, whatever realm they're bound to. Awww.

Well, here you have it ! Dunno if I'll pour other ideas of the same type (cast + kids), but it's surely not the last speculative rant you'll see from me (I guess). Hope you enjoyed.

My dream last night: sci-fi themed, futuristic open-world game. You play as the staff of a famous hotel in the middle of a valley until earthquakes start to threaten your business. You take out to the valley to explore the source (idk why its you) you have a companion I can’t remember much about. Only that they don’t like to watch you kill and they have white hair and something they wear is pink.

Its open world (totk and botw style) and you explore lots of different areas with new enemies and npcs. There are rideable creatures that look like uhh ill draw something. The plot is that there is this incredibly powerful artifact called the Construct and someone is using it to bring dinosaurs back to life. They look different because they are wearing clothes from this era (long-sleeved white shirt, loose and tattered pink crop top over it, and denim shorts) and the dinosaurs they are bringing back are causing the earthquakes. I called her ‘Mi’ in the game.

The rideables are also dinosaurs, but they were too small and too nice to wreak havoc on the world. This is set in the distant future I think, where humanity has managed to create and depend on clean energy. There are abandoned power plants you can find that are filled with a special type of radiation energy monsters.

Also, the main character is a complete badass. One of the cutscenes I can remember, we just straight up walk up to this terrifying enemy (we don’t fight it!!!) and mock it while we move faster than it can swing. We end up beheading it with our epic sword.

I can remember two NPCs. One was called Anne-Marie, and she worked at the hotel we did, but she died (dinosaur attack I think). Her letter of resignation is a collectible in the game (even tho she never resigned).

The second NPCs was called Molly and we found her in a research station in the west. She helps us a lot, gives us some pretty vital equipment (grappling hook I think) but eventually betrays us. We don’t ever see her again after that. Its kinda up to the player’s interpretation. I reckon we killed her (we seem like the type). Her resignation letter has ‘some bitches lie’ scrawled over her name in red ink.

Oh and collectibles. They are everywhere in this game. You can get a letter of resignation from every person who dies/disappears in the game, each with different handwriting and messages I assume we put on it.

And customizations. They are everywhere. You can customize every part of you before you start the game, and you can change your features whenever you want. Armour=fully customizable. Weapon=fully customizable.

Hell, you can even customize what the Construct looks like. And each time you find something you can customize, the game pauses and the edges of the screen go a blurry blue, and a female voice says ‘tell me. What do you see?’

There are hints dropped throughout the game that this is, in fact, a game. In fact, one of Mi’s lines is ‘god, finally. Here’s you, exposing the goddamn truth.’

Also, the weapons. There are different classes (barbarian, ninja, knight, elven, hunter and I think a few more) which is very rpg but characters in the game reference these classes. Like the guy I talked about completely beating up in a cutscene even says before you behead him ‘running fast cant protect you from me. I have a barbarian-class scythe-‘ and then we chop his head off. But whatever.

Yeah. So that was my dream. You can probably romance characters in it, and idk what the companion does, but it was really cool in my head. Might do concept art if I can.

this post is gonna have a lot more text than my usual posts. so sorry if you don't want that.

so people seemed to really like my idea (which is really unexpected !! i didn't expect it to gain any attention at all!!! but its also super awesome and im so glad they do!!) so ive been brainstorming a little bit.

heads up i know yume nikki is a very ambiguous game but im pretty new to it so if i happen to get any established information wrong please let me know !? ty !!

anyways. before we do the effects. please take some sprites.

(body horror ((multiple eyes, messed up limbs, gunshot sounds)) under the cut!!! pls stay safe !!! ) (also a huge lore dump. sorry!)

id think this au takes place in a universe where the resonance cascade was real (aka not a game or simulation) and it'd be like, maybe a few months after it. gordon is traumatized as hell and it haunts his subconscious to the point he feels the need to isolate himself completely. he relives his trauma through eerily consistent dream worlds and then dies on a random tuesday. credits roll. audience cheers. wonderful story.

the vision for the sprites is that tommy functions as a "friendly" npc (like monoko and the other girl i forget the name of please forgive me) and benrey functions as poniko, uboa being "xenrey" or essentially messed up alien benrey (the weird...white...blood....world...room...uboa takes you to when you interact with it is simply replaced by xen. that's it. benreys house is a direct gateway to that time gordon fought god and won and isn't that amazing.)

i might remake the "uboa" sprite in the future because i don't really like it right now. im very new to pixel art and imitating YMNK's style is a little hard.

i like to think this imaginary game would have the teensiest tiny bit of dialogue, only when interacting with benrey. when you interact with his "regular" form, he says "you're not supposed to be here." and repeats it every time you interact, not saying anything else.

i know one of the biggest things that makes yume nikki stand out is its lack of dialogue, but listen, i think it would work well!!! seeing as this is the only time a character actually talks to gordon through understandable dialogue (unless i come up with something else!! haha) i think it would be confusing and throw players off because it breaks the pattern of being either ignored or silently acknowledged. someone talking directly to you after hours of isolation is confusing and unpredictable. which is what benrey is. confusing as hell!

im not sure what function tommy would offer, if any, i kinda want him to maybe give gordon an effect (soda effect could work?)

i dont think he'd bring any jumpscares or intentionally unsettling things to the table. seeing as he was the only one by gordon's side when the rest of the team proved itself to be a threat, i think it's logical he'd remember tommy in a warmer light than the others- which is reflected in how instead of unsettling or ignoring gordom, dream tommy simply smiles and gives him the ability to drink a soda any time. soda effect.

does this soda effect make you see faster like tommy said?

as much as i'd love to, no. probably not. because i have no idea what the hell seeing faster means.

maybe you can get a caffeine overdose. if you spam 1 enough times you will get very fast for as long as the soda effect is on. like the bycicle effect, but better, because you can taste it!

but no, it won't help you see faster. i don't know how to translate that sentence into understandable english.

now, coomer and bubby!!!! i apologize very deeply for i have not made sprites for them yet. i promise i will!!! it's just very late today and if i draw anything else i will actually just pass out.

im not very sure what i want for them yet. i think theyd be similar to tommy, but they'd have different functions. maybe they all give gordon different effects. or maybe they scare him! i dunno, i feel like there'd be a certain level of distrust from gordon to the old guys, like, of course he doesn't hate them but itd be hard to remember them super kindly and harmlessly when one of them ruthlessly tried to murder you with 300 clones of himself and the other tricked you into an ambush that cost you your arm, as much as you love them.

also!!! i completely forgot gordon lost an arm when i made his sprite. oops. it's okay its just a very realistic prosthetic

anyways. this post is getting too long so i think I'll save the boomer talk for when i actually post their sprites. its time for EFFECTS !!

i haven't been able to come up with many words yet. but i have some effects and a slight idea of how gordon would earn them.

concept art is beautiful

from left to right (because my handwriting is absolutely hideous!)

SODA - earned by interacting with TOMMY. wherever tommy is??? i dunno! pressing 1 will make gordon drink the soda and earn a temporary speed boost.

CAR??? - part of me really wants to rename this one but it's so funny to me i want to keep it. it's just a car. he literally just whips out a car and starts driving. what a legend. this effect lets him get across water areas faster (even faster than the soda!)

LONG HAIR - literally just gives him long hair. there is no practical use for this. nothing will happen. it just gives him long hair. isnt he beautiful.

ARM - earned by interacting with a dismembered arm found... somewhere.... probably some dark room. you know that effect where madotsuki literally just becomes a head? yeah. this is that but it's an arm because of course it is. this is an opportunity and i will not give it up. there is no use for this either. it just makes him a slow sad lonely arm.

MINIGUN - found by interacting with a certain object in POTION !! WORLD !! YEAHHH!! DARNOLD REFERENCE !!! pressing 1 will let you shoot the hell out of your enemies and make them pay for their sins

SWEET VOICE - found by interacting with any of the orbs in COLOR WORLD. 1 will allow gordon to song a beautiful, colorful song that will soothe any npcs he might have angered and make them stop trying to murder him.

POWERLEGS - MAYBE given by coomer npc? idk! this is all brainstorming and a work in progress! 1 makes gordon jump real high, allowing him to reach otherwise unaccessible areas

GHOST - ghost. he's a ghost. he's transparent. he flies. 1 makes him do a little ooooo noise and all the npcs run away from him because the place is haunted. ghost.

GLASSES - literally just pick up some glasses from the floor. putting them on will uncover a few hidden details across the map that may be necessary for progress ... like a very small and specific set of stairs

SMALL - makes gordon very small. i thought the original effect was super fun so i just kept it unchanged. small gordon. he can clone himself and make a gordon army. small. im thinking he finds it thru a coomer clone that is abnormally small. he interacts. small effect. small!

SHORT HAIR - literally just short hair. gordon can't seem to pick a haircut!

UMBRELLA - ...umbrella. makes it rain. shelters gordon from the rain at the same time. can be used for the same purpose it has in yume nikki which is putting out fires or stopping pre-existing rain.

there's supposed to be more effects and i still need to plan all the worlds and hidden rooms but ........ maybe when the sun is out and i have slept and i can think better !!! let me know whatever suggestions or ideas you guys have. i love hearing them a lot ^_^ thank you if you read all of this!! i promise hlvrai animations are not over this is just an au that has temporarily taken over its okay my content is not changing to yume nikki hlvrai only

Also as for music headcanons I haven't really thought about it very much, but I can tell you what I have thought about and honestly I have no explanations. I am going completely off of vibes.

Tim we know is into like new wave post-punk. Joy Division, Devo, ect. Idk I don't listen to him when he talks. Going more into head canon realm I would also include like new wave gothic. The cure, siouxsie and the banshees, like 70-90's type alt. Huge music snob.

I feel Masky would have a different taste, same kind of era but heavier and more industrial. Rammstein, Nine inch Nails, maybe even DC punk type shit, minor threat, black flag, dead Kennedys, decendents. Suicidal tendencies idk

Brian and hoodie honestly I don't see as big music people, brian I can see being very into like synth pop, or like... I don't know how to describe what I'm thinking. I think tiktok was calling it dream core or like goblin core or something. That's what I imagine brian listening to LMFAO. As for toby. Honestly. I feel like he just listens to the same exact things as me. It just feels RIGHT. Lil bit of industrial (that's the only thing he and masky can agree on), a whole bunch of Midwest emo, like the real sad kind, mccaferty, Lincoln, mom jeans, sorority noise, the front bottoms (ok not that sad but whatever), pup, la dispute (ok not Midwest but WHATEVER) actually I don't know if any of those are actually ""Midwest emo"" but like you know, bands with that Midwest emo ~vibe~. But when hes not all up in his own head he'd be into the classics. My chem, peirce the veil, sleeping with sirens, you know what I mean by classics. He'd also get into the heavier stuff from time to time, motionless in white, Lorna shore probs. Like he listens to as much music as tim he's just not a damn SNOB ABOUT IT! So he's a little more diverse.

Btw he is a Dunmer noble who is a part of a great house made up by a frend of mine. (Who also owns this character but I was the one to made the design so-)

His original name was Adder'Synn Malkovich but in this version of him, he is not called that, for he is called "Imyorem Syniaal", a noble who rlly doesn't like Argonians so he just tortures them when they don't listen to his voice. (Also man mayhaps myordered his dad, maybe. maybe not, idk. (But now he's stuck in some child's basement as punishment-)

I generally tried to do a completely different art style, as in... semi-realistic... But then again I don't rlly like drawing in different art styles but I do this this was a bit fun to draw. Plus it was originally meant to cheer up my frend a bit bcs of what the hell just happened from the thing 2 days ago.

saw this and wanted to make my own post real quick bc i’ve gotten some questions abt my art before & now that i feel a bit more secure in my style i thought i’d give a few tips to anyone who wanted that :)

first i have to address how the submission is phrased: i'm sorry & i know no one wants to hear this but “keep practicing” is not a platitude that is always going to be the best advice 😭 the real question is:

how do you make practice fun?

1. challenge yourself in a way you find enjoyable/fulfilling :)

i liked doing things like art prompts from inktobers, and to draw comics of the stories i wrote, but mostly the answer for me was “set random number goal, meet random number goal, inject the validation from completed goal directly into my bloodstream, repeat.”

i worked on things kind of systematically, which just made my brain happy; i spent one summer when i was 14 doing nothing but drawing 10 full bodies a day, all with references of course. did the same throughout the fall with hands, then eyes, then expressions, then clothes, etc etc. it always had to be 10 diff angles and positions.

i did a repeat of this 10-drawings-of-10-angles rule throughout quarantine in 2020. failed all my online classes cuz i was drawing 6-10 hours every day and ignoring my homework but still passed the year in the end 💀 i got the idea from yumeii-art; it's been over 7 years since, so idk if i remember right, but she had given a similar rule of thumb as a response to someone's question about drawing without a reference, i think.

is this the Best path? probably not, idk. and it definitely lead to awkward phases where i was much better at drawing bodies than faces, for example — but it worked for me. i liked breaking things down like that, it felt more manageable.

the other number goal was. in 9th grade i saw this post:

and i was like. y’know what? yeah. i keep feeling bad abt my art, how about i put that feeling on pause until after i’ve filled 14 sketch book. i hope this user knows i owe all my achievements to the phrase “fill 14 sketch book” powering me through years of depression and art block.

so i did fill 14 sketch book!

i met that goal between ages 14 and 19. obv this doesnt include the doodles on my homework, on other random surfaces, or the ~150 digital artworks i’d done in that time, so maybe it was more like 16 sketch book? but that doesnt matter, i had 14 labeled & organized sketchbooks that were full, and i did feel better about my art by then. this was my anime training montage. this was 90% of my improvement. this was the best art advice i’d ever gotten.

so i guess what made art the most fun to me was numbers? which sounds lame but i guess since i’m competitive & love competing against myself the most, it just worked for me.

(the new sketches are still rough and lack some detail ofc but i have terrible ADHD and always found it hard to sit down and keep working on a sketch once it was “done enough” — for some reason i dont rlly have the same impatience with digital art & have less of a problem completing pieces on my ipad now) (the point is. 14 sketch book level complete. 1000% worth it)

then my 2021-2024 improvement, when i had bought my own ipad and again spent most days drawing instead of doing my schoolwork (i.. did end up failing that first year of uni):

2. try out different mediums aimlessly!

what i mean is just go ham with some charcoal or whatever you have on hand, without the determination to Make It Good. i can’t say if this helped my actual art get better but what it did do was keep the joy of it alive & i had fun which lead to more practice & therefore improvement. color pencils weirdly were my favorite. hell, my school had us do a project with linoleum printing (is that how u spell it idk) and it gave me months’ worth of art inspo.

i also recently got a gift card for a stationery store and got some nice markers and those also gave me a ton of motivation. markers r good

3. if u do digital art, find ur fave brush; it will be ur familiar ur trusted companion ur lover in a past life

for lineart i mostly use the IGB office pack, favorite ballpoint. you’ll have to buy & download it online tho i think it was like $7? but yea it was worth it. (i did a lot of work with the gesinski ink brush in past years but i think it’s a bit too “sharp” now)

but also go crazy try them all it’s fun!

4. in my opinion it’s fine to do redraws of ur fave artist’s work now and then — as long as u keep it to urself and dont take credit for it

i’ve had ppl ask to use my art as a ref and my answer is always Not Sure Why You’d Want To Bc It’s Not All That, But Yes Of Course. as u can see most of my 2021 work was redrawing panels of the “gangsta.” manga; it didn’t even end up influencing my style much, my style was already based on all the manga shit i drew at 13, but it was the only thing i was motivated enough to draw at the time, and it was valuable practice.

art teachers still stress that the best reference is to draw from life & yeah thats true maybe but idc sometimes ur just not feeling that! so mix it up, whatever works. obviously respect it if an artist says not to reference their work and don’t only reference ur art from one artist but generally i think it’s harmless.

especially when there’s a specific thing an artist does very well that’s hard to find other examples of; personally i was fighting for my life trying to find how to best translate references of dynamic movement into art of dynamic movement. and i think the bnha mangaka does this wonderfully so i often referenced thise action panels as practice. and i think it helped loosen up my art style. (and… i was extremely ridiculously mentally ill about hawks so that…. contributed…. my fave ask to date is still the person who clocked hawks as my old fave character based purely on how i draw eyes 😭😭)

tracing is a diff conversation and my advice there is it is not actually helpful and it's. idk it feels very Against Artist Code. sometimes, and i havent done it in a couple years, but if a piece REALLY isnt working i've done the thing where u trace the general movement of a pose then go from there but i've never posted completed works where i used that method bc it felt wrong. but yeah that's a separate thing that i don't wanna go too deep into

5. another fun thing that motivated me to practice was doing speedpaints!

if you draw on procreate, it's probably set up automatically already. i don't have the storage to record everything, but when i do have it on, the knowledge that i'll have a speedpaint of the finished piece pushes me to put the last necessary touches on it. (if you'd like to see some of my speedpaints i have a few on my instagram)

some more technical advice:

1. flip your canvas flip your canvas flip your goddamn canvas i KNOW it hurts i KNOW it’s like ripping off a bandaid that’s superglued to ur skin i know but YOU HAVE TO FLIP YOUR CANVAS

(when i didn’t have an ipad i’d do this by taking a picture of the drawing on my phone and flipping the image in the photo app)

IT IS THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD AND IM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT I’VE RAGE QUIT SOME PIECES OVER SEEING THE CANVAS FLIPPED BUT LOOK AT THIS ART BEFORE AND AFTER I’D FLIPPED IT AND FIXED HOW WONKY IT WAS: desaturated so tht the colors dont distract so much

like it's the BEST and honestly often the ONLY way you're going to catch things that were off/out of proportion/etc. flipping your canvas gives your brain a "new eye" and it's invaluable.

2. until you have color theory figured out…. i honestly depend on adding layers and setting them to color dodge, divide, multiply, overlay, etc…. i am cheating, perhaps, but it works

3. this is how i draw front-facing noses because it's what a czech woman in an extremely bad mood taught me in a cramped overheated stuffy classroom in germany when i was 12

it was our only meeting but she changed my life. i do not know how common this method is but it's possibly the only thing i can concretely give you a tutorial for. after a few times you won't need to do step 1 anymore

anddd i think that's all the advice i have that wouldn't be a repeat of every other art advice thing you've seen. i do know it boils down to "keep practicing" but again you won't get around that, and i just hope that concretely showing what's motivated me might help motivate someone else.

Hey since I also have threeleaves brainrot: do u have any opinions on how Kingsley's style might adapt as he goes on? Since when he was "born" he hated Molly's coat and thought it was tacky. But now seems to be leaning into the big sparkly red coat and tall boots look?

On the other hand, the official art seems to suggest that he had Molly's face tattoos removed. Which I get, but.... still makes me sad 💔😭😭😭

i always ascribe to the idea of king being the reconciliation of lucien and molly's souls a la tneol so i imagine his sense of style to be a healthy mix of both. I can see why he, at first, found mollys fashion distasteful seeing as he was very much Not molly and didn't want tht identity shoved onto him. But i can imagine the more comfortable he gets with his life and sense of self, he'd loosen up more i guess on past opinions. The 3leaves have a flair for the dramatics after all, so while he may not be into the bright colors like molly, he'd have his own way of making a statement. Also ik u only asked abt Kingsley but ill get into my 3leaf fashion his bc they're all so different and i love them <3

Lucien: ik the book said he liked those rlly deep cut shirts but tbh i think thts the most Risqué hell get lol. Lucien to me has a very modest fashion sense, as in function is more important than looks, and hes fine with it so long as its durable. He favors darker colors and prefers looser easy to move in clothes tht can protect him from the elements. Maybe its the former urchin kid in him tht wanted to survive the run and not draw too much attention to himself 🤔 Anyways i also personally think he wld rlly like skirts and dresses (this has nothing to do with my latest Lucy drawing but alas). As always, performance is a big theme for him, so i think he wld have clung to the idea of looking intimidating and wld have a hard time letting go of the specific image of what being the nonagon looks like in bis head. But without the weight of tht title and maintaining appearances, as well as getting to actually explore his gender and presentation, i think lucien wld rlly enjoy nice flowy skirts and dresses. Still very low key with little to no jewelry tho

Molly: what is there to say tht has not been said abt our favorite tacky tiefling!!! His appearance is like the picture definition of hedonism, getting intricate tattoos and wearing the brightest most garish clothes in existence. Regardless, i think its touching how he woke up with no memories knowing he had a dark past, and deciding to make his body his own. A complete 180 from lucien in terms of appearance and thts exactly how molly wld have wanted it. In regards to gender presentation, he wldnt have the same hangups lucien wld so molly did whatever the hell he wanted and he looked good doing it!!

Kingsley: oh man ok. So he doesn't have the same taste as molly regarding bright and tacky clothes but hes not like lucien who's a function over fashion person. Instead, he makes a statement in a way thts a good mix of both. Whereas lucien is more rough around the edges and molly is bright and colorful, king is more sleek i think. Black, gold, silver, hints of red or cool tones. Dark coats befitting of a pirate captain, tasteful jewelry, etc. Dramatic in his own way, goth instead of glam rock. Maybe in the beginning he kept it plain to figure put what he liked without the burden of other identities being pushed onto him but after, he develops a look thts very much himself :)

to answer your question yes i most definitely Have experienced art block..... very frequently between months i'll have chunks of time where its literally impossible for me to feel like anything i'm doing is good or even have motivation to draw and its a NIGHTMARE <\33

usually when this happens to me to work out of it i like to start by doodling ideas i have as much as i possibly can (especially little jokes between characters i made/like) and then slowly work my way up from like a bajillion little cartoon simple doodles into a slightly more complicated style and then usually i can work myself back in to doing some bigger pieces !! (even though i dont do thoughs that much even out of art block lmao but u get the idea,,)

and. well HOLY MOLY. i cannot say i have had an art block as long as u before my fine sir Holy bejeezus...,...

but i'd say to help develop your style i know everyone says this but its true, FIND INSPIRATION!!! (this is to help with your style and motivation because inspiration does NUMBERS for me it actually gets juices flowing instead of just forcing my brain to come up with something just cuz its "original", hell yeah draw that meme template if u wanna if it gives u inspiration worms... OK back to style now my bad)

finding other peoples art styles i like and breaking down what i like about them has helped me with making my own art SIGNFICANTLY and i still do very often, so thats why my art style changes a lot very frequently 😭

and dont tell anyone i encourage this but i totally take features i like from artists whose styles give me the brainworms. LIKE OBVIOUSLY IM NOT TRACING but what has helped me so much over the years is trying out different styles, like. a mix and match sort of??? i completely learned how i draw hair from a tiktoker i used to watch like 6/5 years ago,,, and to this day a lot of people still comment on how i draw it so YA!!! i have also developed by trying different anatomy styles (like. stylized Versions) for what makes me most comfortable, and different simplicities of facial features (like detailed eyes or just. Dots. like fr go wild if u like how it looks)

but most of all remember that your art will NEVER have to be a definitive thing!!!!!! even your FAVORITE artists if u look at their art from like. 4 years ago i can guarantee you you can see how their style has developed. basically what im trying to say is dont stress about having "your own" style if you think thats like going to define your art!! YOU DEFINE YOUR ART!!!! so if u feel like changing your art literally entirely at any point. DO IT! if having a style helps you to draw though i totally encourage finding one but it Also does not hurt to try other styles as u progress in art
