Hi guys and welcome to Addie’s research spiral into the gay moustache:

Moustaches have always been a symbol of masculinity, sexuality and social standing

Like legit dating back to the 1800s we had the whisker and beard movement which started pushing the idea that facial hair can be masculine and sophisticated and not just a sign of lacking in morality and uncleanliness like the victorians used to think and you can actually draw a direct line to men feeling threatened to the patriarchy in those times and the prevalence of facial hair- this assertion of dominance and masculinity being seen similarly in ww1 soldiers, where facial hair became the accepted norm then post ww1 it went out of style again then this cycle repeats again with most wars.

There is also within the later 1800s and early 1900s links to sexuality and rebellion because younger men not having a full beard and instead having clean shaven faces or moustaches was seen as a sign of rebellion against older generations , also the need for maintenance of this style made it viewed as effeminate

Someone put it as the moustache has always been tied with the three fs: fops, foreigners and fiends meaning it was perceived that men would need to be well groomed or gay, foreign (particularly from Latin countries) or lacking in morals and evil to have a moustache

Okay so the origin of the gay moustache aside from the connection to the well groomed element

So post stonewall riots the gay moustache became a real thing like one qoute I found that was funny was arnie kantrowitz saying it was a requirement in the gay community, you needed a a flannel shirt, mustache or beard, bomber jacket, jeans and boots. We were dressing like the blue-collar men that turned us on." And a lot of it stemmed from what was dubbed the Castro clone look

Okay so Freddie was not in fact the originator of the Castro clone look

The castro clone look basically took all the really masculine and macho staples and made it extremely gay

The look originally being inspired by the men of the Castro neighbourhood in San Francisco in the early 60s and THAT actually comes from the “greaser”/hood look inspired by the 50s Italian American men and Latinos who also their subculture was born from their stereotypes

The Castro clone look doesn’t have one distinct origin but its popularity was fuelled by gay artists like Tom of Finland, and musicians like the village people and Freddie and gay pornstars like al Parker

And Parker was one of the big names in the Castro clone look this in particular not only explains the reason for his look well but also peep the “pouring beers over eachother” line and let me take you back to bachelor party buddie

And now I hear the republican man and Gerrard mentions and to that I say that’s the whole point of it

Like the hypermasculinised look was meant to not only play the macho aesthetic and be a form of queer signaling but it was also meant to subvert gay men stereotypes by instead doing this like extreme portrayal of masculinity

It’s drawing from straight men but making it’s undeniably queer

Like wife beaters, moustaches, denims and flannels were so tied to het males that they took that and still found a way to make it so undeniably queer that it became a form of queer signaling

Thus taking the power away from the macho hets and forming a new subculture

The gay moustache only started seeing its end around the 80s AIDS epidemic because the moustache aimed to make a person look older but as queer communities became more sick or perceived as unclean or sick the need to look clean and young grew and clean shaved faces became the trend again

So Eddie having the moustache isn’t some tie to Gerrard or straight people it’s actually so queer coded and a form of rebellion

And btw this isn’t even a niche thing it’s like a widely known queer thing to the point that one show got slammed for having a gay club scene set in that time and not having any Castro clones in it

Hello there, Anon! I love the questions you had asked me, and it took me a while to figure them all out, but I wrote them down as I thought, so they may be a but lengthy. Anyways, I hope I answered your questions good!

Okay, so I have quite a few favorites within both fandoms, so I'll seperate them based on species/dorm!

Twisted Wonderland

Heartslabyul: Riddle Rosehearts ~ His character is super adorable with how his face gets red when he gets mad, and I find his constant need to follow the rules funny. It's not like the Queen of Hearts is gonna kill you, she's basically dead anyways! Savanaclaw: Jack Howl ~ He's just adorable, and he reminds me of my male best friend because he's quite defensive about his reputation, but with people he cares about, he's awesome! Octavinelle: Azul Ashengrotto ~ Azul is one of my favorite characters in general because of how smart, yet sensitive he can be. Like when he had overblotted because of MC and the others tearing up his contracts he worked hard on, it's understandable and relatable. Also, his fear of his weight makes me pity him as a chubby person myself, but I love the way he gains confidence! Scarabia: Jamil Viper ~ Jafar is one of my favorite characters in the whole Disney canon, so having Jamil as one of my favorites shouldn't be surprising. I love his design and I absolutely love his journey, he's good at cooking and he's amazingly loyal to his family and friends, he's husband material. Pomefiore: Rook Hunt ~ I love Vil, but Rook's character overall is so much fun to read and write for. I love his design to freaking much, like his hat, so cute, the fact that he came from Savanaclaw to Pomefiore, very unique and cool, I also adore his frenchness, it shows relation to the film's original location and written place. Ignihyde: Ortho & Idia ~ I couldn't choose between the two of them, their dynamic together is so fucking cute, like I can't. I also love introverts, I find them adorable, and having a very extroverted sibling just makes it extra cute!! Diasomnia: ALL FOUR ~ Like with the previous duo, I cannot choose between all three. I love Malleus, he's a very fun character, and with how oblivious and willing to learn he is, he's awesome. Lilia is just great, he's an amazing father to both Silver and Malleus, and the way he looks after Sebek like his own, cute!! Silver and Sebek are similar, adorable children that we must protect. Staff: Divus Crewel ~ All I have to say is: Monochrome King RSA: Che'nya ~ Personally, I love the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland (1951), he's just an amazing example of an anti-hero, and the way he teases Riddle and Trey just for laughs is super cute and shows how much he truly cares for the two as his friends.

Abrahamic Pantheon: Beelzebub ~ I prefer him over a lot of different Gods, so much so he's in my top 10 favorite characters throughout the whole fandom. But, I love how careful he is, he seems to care about others enough to where he tries protecting them from distancing himself, but that's also a flaw, otherwise, he's just a decent person in general, despite wanting Humanity's end. Buddhism Pantheon: Buddha ~ He's just so much fun. He loves to mess around and tease others, which is something I love to do, which kinda draws people towards me (I'm an unfortunate people-magnet), and I also love how he's so laid-back, you gotta love those chill peeps. Hindu Pantheon: Shiva ~ I love his love of the art-form dance. Dance is something that has a bunch of different forms, and the way that he just takes that passion and made it his own unique thing was inspiring! Greek Pantheon: Heracles / Apollo / Hades ~ I love all three of these guys, so it was hard to decide between them. Hades is a family man and cares for his brothers no matter what, Apollo is a decent person and doesn't judge for looks, but by personality, and Heracles is just an amazing example of the word 'hero'. Norse Pantheon: Thor ~ I just love his character in general, he seems to value his family and title, he even showed sympathy to killing Lü Bu, and I found that to be an amazing addition to showing the humanity in the Gods. I also adore his design, red is one of my favorite colors behind blue and black, so having long red hair? Yes. Human Fighters: ALL ~ No competition, they all rule. Lü Bu shows care for his army, Adam loves his 'children' despite their wrongdoings, Sasaki has a strong will of never giving up despite challenges, Jack will do seemingly anything to protect those he cares for, even if they don't care for him back, Raiden's care for Thrud was so heartwarming, he warned her to stop the Völundr to save her life, and (technically) Zerofuku, he's just a baby that was let down the wrong path, he needs guidance, and I believe that if he had the right teacher, his life would've been way better. Valkyries: Göll ~ She's just so god-foresakenly cute!! I feel like my heart's gonna explode everytime she looks concerned for both Humanity and the Gods fighting, she's so much more human with her emotions than other characters, it's amazing.

Their types all vary, but I'll probably make a list on each dorm/pantheon and their types later on because this is starting to get very lengthy and my hands are cramping badly, so to keep my hands in tact and this post short-er, I'll answer your final question.

I believe there should be more Male! Readers, as there are mostly either Female or Gender Neutral. Like males can read the GN, but like, pretty much all the Male! Readers I find are NSFW and not SFW. I believe there should be more of those, but like I said, GN does work relatively well.

and oooh i know what you mean about looking at a lot of different artists! it’s inspiration!! i find those things to be amazing too, it’s so cool. it’s like “this spot is inspired by an artist” “this artist draws this like this, so i wanted to try” “i think the way an artist drew this was neat and i wanted to try an implement it” it reminds me of that one post how we, as people, are a mosiac of other people and i believe it to be the same for how artists are too with their art

i feel inspired by the way you draw….. everything!!! it gets me pumped to try and replicate the way you do some things. like the shapes you create, the colors you choose, the way your lineart seems to be so flowy, how dynamic everything feels and how different each drawing you create is from one another (i saw you reblog that meme of like “why shouldnt i draw characters from the waist up and that is SO me, but it’s shoulders up” because drawing full bodies makes mh drawings feel so stiff, i need to practice more!!), the poses of the characters. just.. every aspect of your art is so, so, so nice!!

the way you draw, in all your styles, it’s definitely one of the ones that is such a good scratch to my brain. it gets me all giddy and happy! i’m not sure if i’ll get into jwri, mostly because my attention span will not let me be able sit and focus on listening before i get distracted and miss context on parts, BUT i still go to your blog almost every day just so i can see your art, no matter what it is, no matter who the characters are because it’s always so so good and i love taking it in. its okay if you can't get into jrwi, i get it! i didn't think i would get into it as well and after binging all the episodes i honestly forgot why i even started listening in the first place. remembered recently tho! it was because i was going a little crazy while making the picrew and needed some actual talking in the background instead of just music. so, if you ever decide to give it a try, or listen to something else equally as lengthy, try to busy your hands with something that doesn't require a lot of thinking! it helps me at least! worked both with jrwi and tma. it's like, doing something monotonous (knitting, sorting files, cleaning the house, etc) can be incredibly boring if i sit in silence and let my mind wonder. alternatively, listening to something long or watching a long movie can be incredibly boring as well because i struggle to pay attention to the same thing for two hours. but combining these is really good, because it keeps both my mind and hands busy, but not overwhelmingly so!

Won't it be nice if we could be like one of those magnetic and charming peeps? YEP, that's definitely possible!!

think of someone with magnetic personality, you'd find them charismatic and charming. they're interesting, exciting, and engaging. someone that draws people in and make them comfortable.

ok, how do we create magnetic energy?

★ Energy

Energy/aura is EVERYTHING. what you need to know tho, aura is the projection of our inner state, it's the extension of what's going on inside. sure, you might use those "manipulation tricks" on tiktok, but be aware because that's what you will get as well. if you act in toxic way (to get people to like you, play with their head etc), you will just attract another toxic or low vibe people.

So, if aura is the projection of our inner state, and we wanna be magnetic, of course we gotta take care of ourselves. take care of your mental health, forgive people, know yourself, take care of your body, eat well, and do thing that you LOVE, that makes you EXCITED to wake up in the morning. enjoy where you are, be in peace with yourself. this will projects in the world, and people can feel it ^^

★ Magnetic

We don't wanna know attract ALL attention, we want to attract the RIGHT attention.

"liked by anyone, loved by no one". In fact, the goal to be magnetic is not by getting everyone to like you, but be comfortable in yourself. if we think about it, a real magnet actually polarizing. only the matching pair, right? if it tries to attract everything, it won't be as strong as the magnet that attracts the matching pairs. and how do we do this? yep, being AUTHENTIC.

guess what, people can sense when someone have unauthentic energy, and of course it might make them feel uneasy. Ironically, the MORE you try to be magnetic, usually the LESS magnetic you become. it's giving "i wanna be liked by everyone" energy.

Think of creating the BEST energy to yourself. be confident in what we are, and living from the place of AUTHENTICITY and LOVE.

Let people feel good in YOUR presence

This time, be GENUINE. charismatic people could make you feel like you're the only person in the room, that's how charming they are. so, talk to people with genuine interest and care. take the effort to be truly engaged in what they’re saying, rather than thinking about what to say next, or interrupting. some things you could pay attention to :

Be Attentive and Caring. fully listen and genuinely care about others. remember details, call their name and understand what they're saying. listen closely to what they're saying. also, you know to not get distracted with other things when you talk to someone right.

Eye Contact. maintain eye contact, it shows that we're interested and care.

Body Gesture. take up space, make yourself physically bigger, use expressive hand movements, hold yourself tall.

Facial Expression. oh don't we love a beautiful smile on someone's face. it just brighten up the mood, right? you could nod at all the right moments to show that you're engaged. what about on stressful situation? let's chill out and maintain calm expression to show that you're positive and in control! ^^

Be Interesting. Tell something as story, we could use some metaphors, and anecdotes. Be creative with the words we use. Express ourselves freely, it makes us look more human, memorable, and interesting!

Communicate Confidence, Be POSITIVE! charismatic people are inspiring, and confident. so, communicate with passion and energy. be passionate with life too, you just have one life anyways, so enjoy it!

Be Kind. treat people with such tenderness of heart, lend help to ones in need, hold/mention people name with respect, no trash-talking of course, we all know it's not cool to make fun of others.

Intention. make sure to set a clear intentions before you have a conversation, it helps you to stay grounded on the value you hold, and respect yourself as well as you respect others ^^

Be Thoughtful. try to be more active in a relationship, with your family, friends, and loved ones. reach out, give them a call, hit them up on socials to check up on them, invite them. what's the worst could happen anyways. trust me, they will appreciate it!

Familiarity builds Comfort. if you know the topic being discussed, share some personal experiences as well. you can also try to relate emotionally, identify the motivation on why they do what they do, what got them into it, and how it makes them feel.

It's not complicated, and definitely achievable. The takeaway is : create the best inner state, take care of yourself, and truly confident and be at peace with yourself. having a magnetic personality isn't just about being charming and charismatic. It's mostly about being authentic and genuine. magnetic personalities are comfortable in their own skin, and they don't try to be someone that they're not. they are confident and unafraid to be themselves, which is why people are drawn to them. Laughter doesn't always come easy to him, and for long he was ashamed of her laughter. It's a snorty laugh in short quick puffs, I think it's really cute! She feels comfortable laughing around close friends tho, especially late at night after a long hang-out with candy and music :)

She want to be rebellious but in his heart, he thinks they're immovable.

9: Do they swear? First swear word?

He started swearing only after he'd Fallen, and the first one was shit xD

Being wrong, wearing clothes he's not comfortable with, not having control over his body, showing people his vent-art, stuttering, being judged, being messy, a lot of things honestly.

She ties the thing she need to remember to a visual picture. For example, if needing to remember how to spell the word "carpet" she'll imagine a little kitty in a car. Car-pet.

Ooooh that could've been a post on its own tbh. No! I'll keep it brief! Coral is objectum. He's aroace when it comes to people. His beloved objects, his partners, are Boy! the bunny plushie, Rey the computer, Sugar the flip-phone and Stellar the chain. They're depicted in both the ref-sheets :) So the main type of objects he's attracted to are plushies, technology, chains and sometimes buildings :) But you know, just as with other sexualities, she's not attracted to EVERY object tn these categories, just as lesbians aren't attracted to ALL girls.

She talks on the spot and use a lot of slang and some swear-words, she's quite outspoken and its emotions affect their tone a lot. Its voice is kinda deep and rough/ragged, with a growl hiding just under the surface of the voice.

18: what embarrasses them?

Failing in things hen thought hen was good at, sharing vulnerable feelings, admitting flaws, being considered weak or mean

24: Are they comfortable talking about sex? With whom?

Kation is very confident in its sexuality and is comfortable with talking about it with anyone who wants to! It's just a casual topic to her.

A: What am I excited about these characters?

About Kation I love its design and powers and personality, I love to draw hen and Imagine hen in all kinds of scenarios, how hen interact with others, anything. Designing outfits for both Kation and Coral is super fun, about Coral i love his emotional life, her facial expressions, that she's objectum, his past, his inner conflicts and problems and worries.

B: what inspired me to create them?

Kation was created because I needed a main character in my comic. Hen is a fat, nonbinary demon cus those are all things i think we should see more in media. Well... mostly the first 2, there's a lot of demons lol. But i think those 3 things is a great combo! Coral, as first depicted here, I just drew him cus I wanted to redraw the album photo for Replicas Redux by Gary Numan (with Are 'Friends' Electric? in mind). But I didn't want to draw the guy himself so i just switched him out w a demon i designed on a whim. I liked her design a lot and decided to add her to the lore of the comic i made, and make him Kations best friend, soon with lore of his own!

Question J was only for fandom OCs it seems so ... yeah :)

NRB Plays Call of Cthulhu - Part 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 River Proletariat

he's totally normal, don't worry about it extra words + art info under the cut!

This was the second-to-last piece that I finished and while I'm pretty happy with it, I feel like I definitely could have made it a bit more exciting. I do think the face looks a lot like sullivan though so thats nice. This was another one I drew where he was originally facing forward, and I had to change it for consistency 😔

River was another fairly passive character, so I chose to draw the very last scene, where the body of River finds Harry out in front of the house. Of course, I took some liberties, hence the blood on the hands (symbol of guilt, deceit, betrayal) and the bright beam in the background (aka the eponymous Angel of that episode)

I gave him a beret (french, artistic) a sweater (1920s, artistic), and a falling-off scarf thingy (french, artistic). I also intended for him to have short pants, like Harry Peeps, but they got cut off so perfectly that you would never know.

R'lyehian text inspired by this font! The words say "River" and "Angel" for those who don't feel like translating themselves.

i think another neat thing about gunter is that he feels lived in

both in a 'has had a full life' sense and also physically

especially for a series like FE which has been more inspired by anime as of late and skews much younger in terms of cast. (i'd say at least 95% of FE characters are under their thirties).

not to sound like an old fart myself being 30+ but i find myself craving that complexity you only get with the added decades on each other? god i've forgotten it now but there was such a cool post on tumblr talking about how characters and people get more specific as they get older as they accumulate experiences, and that stayed with me, they're not such a blank slate, they're harder for some people to just randomly project onto and that can be why they draw both intensely positive but also intensely negative reactions. the especially neat characters to me, like gunter, are sharply specific in ways that they won't apologize for. i like that.

and it's not even strictly in an aesthetic or erotic sense but also that sense as an artist of craving texture, i'm one of those weirdo artists that only feels like i'm doing shit right when it feels like real people are intentionally alert and breathing my pictures? body language especially being my go-to, but texture's another one, where's the creases, how to draw that specific cheek caress of lovers who treasure each other b/c they've loved and lost

you know, little details you only get with a full canvas of life

(in that sense you'd think, gee krad, you really should look at live-action peeps they're the ones to have wrinkles n shit :P unfortunately for me i'm more endeared the absolute brain dead pulpy exaggerated plots that anime tends to have which.... in the other direction, skews muuuuch younger in terms of the cast. ya can't win)

i also have this weird thing of really liking only mediums that are "drawn" b/c even if 60% of it is boring-most things read to me as boring these days- then sometimes at least the drawings are neat to study, and real people actors give me uncanny valley vibes. it's why i'm having a lot of fun with jim henson muppet style shows these days like farscape since it mixes the anime goofy vibes with the weirdly sentimental lived in vibes.

I'm bored, could I draw Ciaran? I study Graphic and Fashion Design, but I draw for fun, and I'm no expert. I love character design, so could you give me some information on Ciaran's appearance and fashion style so I can give it a try?

Of course! Anyone is free to draw any of my OCs/MC whenever they want! I know most of them don't have descriptions adslkfj but I actually spent WAY too many hours making picrews of them all so I could finally create their profile posts. I'm too lazy to make moodboards for everybody like I did for Ciaran and Arsenios.

Oh, anyway, sorry I got a bit off topic there!

You are absolutely welcome to draw Ciaran if you feel so inspired!

OH BOY. You want super duper details, eh? That's like... my specialty lol. Here I go!

Body-wise, Ciaran is on the shorter side for someone who is amab. I tend to think of them as like 5'4" and a half, but they round that up to 5'5" lol. That's pretty average for most people, but Ciaran comes from a family of tall peeps. Plus I think of most of the demons as being between 5'10" and like... 6'4" so comparatively, Ciaran is quite short. They're also chubby. Definitely all soft and round, with a sorta hourglass figure shape. Mostly hips and belly, but nothing crazy proportion-wise.

They're Irish so you know, rather pale. Not really freckled but will get them if they spend a lot of time in the sun.

Naturally black hair, but they dye it blue. This means the color can vary. Since they bleach their black hair to dye it blue, when they've freshly dyed it, it'll be a deeper more vibrant blue. But if it's been a while, it'll be a more sky blue color. It's short, the back goes to maybe the middle of their neck while the front stops around their chin. Side part that varies sides because it's wild. Not curly, but very wavy and just kinda all over the place. It's juuuust long enough to put into a tiny ponytail, which they will do sometimes. But more often if they need it out of their face, they'll clip it back with some kinda cutesy barrette. (I think Asmo has probably given them a ton of these lol.)

Their eyes are mostly dark green with maybe a hint of lighter green in the depths. They're also one of those lucky people who have long eyelashes. And they don't dye their eyebrows, so they're just black. And they're not super thick, but perhaps thicker than average? I'm not super dedicated to that detail, though.

Face is very round, due to the chubby lol. They get their ears pierced while in the Devildom, but they don't start out with that so it just depends. When the ears are pierced, they wear simple studs.

Style-wise, I describe Ciaran's style as hipster with a side of punk. They like corduroy and sweaters, but then they'll wear Converse shoes and leather jackets. Usually wears paint stained overalls when they're painting. They like bright colors so most of their sweaters/t-shirts are blue, yellow, or green. Pretty much always wearing sneakers, I'd say they have a single pair of Converse that are their favorites and they wear those all the time. Probably just black and white.

They carry around a brown leather messenger bag situation where they keep all their stuff.

Known to wear scarves whenever it's even a tiny bit cold and they're all like... plaid lol. Definitely has a preference for green/blue plaid, but will wear red/black plaid as well. Sometimes wears pants with those patterns, too.

When dressing up a little, they'll go with fancy pants, suspenders, and a bow tie with their usual Converse because they care most about comfort.

They often have their nails painted, but the colors vary depending on their mood. (Likely Asmo does this for them when they live in the HoL. Left to his own devices, Ciaran isn't super reliable about repainting his nails so they're often chipped as hell lol.)

HOWEVER. On special occasions, Ciaran will completely glam it up.

For instance, if the demons really want him to get snazzy, he will wear a three piece suit. Like it's kinda he doesn't care about this stuff. Most of the time, they prefer comfort, but if they want to, they can absolutely rock a suit and look good doing it.

Likely they're going to do some glitz with that, though. Wearing gold jewelry and having Asmo do their makeup. Style their hair so it isn't as crazy lol.

And sometimes, Ciaran will also glam it up femme style. This is very much a situation where they let Asmo dress them up, basically. But even back in the human world, they would do this. It usually involved borrowing their sister's clothes, which is funny because she's a lot taller. But Ciaran will just put on some heels and call it good.

When they do stuff like this, they like to get really flashy. So it's all sequins and glitter and such. They'll do their hair in a fancy updo or curl it or something. They definitely like that kinda old school Hollywood glam style. But this is a rare occurrence because they don't care to bother doing it most of the time. And they're also the type who will like... go to bed with a full face of makeup because they're too tired to take it off. And like if they're doing this, you know they're planning on partying.

Anyway, now that I've written an essay's worth about Ciaran's appearance and style, I hope that helps! You asked for details and well... here they are lol!

inspiration: for niffty, it's her pilot self that i'm primarily using which i've just built on for a few years now. looking at those 1950s diners, old cars, and listening to the music from the time helps, too! for stella, it's listening to 10 hour long videos of snowstorms and within temptation, along with the fact awkward moms who mean well, love their kids more than anything, and are trying their best are not really all-too present in media like the dad counterparts are. i wanna write that for her. for lilith, it's reading what her followers have to say about her as well as the books they've recommended for getting to know her more personally, rolled in with morticia addams (carolyn jones & catherine zeta-jones). to boot, there's also my love for the gothic, vampires, nightwish, and experience from my days of playing jessica rabbit. also listening to sea ambience, crashing and washing waves. for carmilla, it's the paranoia of tammy's death scene (blood and death in that link), the pain, perseverance and elegance of ballet, some of the energy from "the hacienda" by isbaela cañas, and just staring at her scenes and analyzing them in my little mind palace.

fun fact about me: i've always wanted to be a stormchaser ever since i was a kid. also, i own two daggers, three katanas, two swords, one machete and an iridescent pocket knife, and a crossbow. loading crossbows is harder than you think. need some strength for that.

Here’s the rules:

All are welcome! - From traditional to digital, pencils to paints, it is art and you do it your way!

The focus is lines - It is Linetober after all, and the main idea behind this was to be an Inktober alternative and to help us improve on our lineart. Sketches welcome, scribbles too. However! If you wanna disregard this and do lineless go for it, inspiration is inspiration!

Colors are cool! - Unlike Inktober you are welcome to color in anything! You can do plain ol inkwashing, color it in entirely, use colored lines, or just stick to the lines themselves! Do what makes you happy with that drawing!

Push but don’t Burn - Burnout is a real thing! And though this is meant to be a daily challenge for you to push yourself, please if you need to take a break for a day or two do it! Your health is more important than an art challenge! And if you just wanna do a couple drawings a week do it!

And last but not least

So what made you come up with Wonderland au?

I love the Alice books a lot and the aesthetic more so. I've seen many adaptations and anime parodies and one thing I love is when they use it to explore the subconscious. Like, people Alice has seen in the real world inspiring or mirroring the ones she meets in Wonderland (one example being the 1999 version where all the guests she has to sing to also play the Wonderland peeps and her fears of singing come into play etc)

So I thought I could mirror that using Jigen and the many, many people he knew in the past and those he knows currently. How that impacts him and his life as well as letting him show emotions that he'd keep hidden otherwise.

It also lets me draw them in the aesthetics of the world I love so much 😁

One Fowl Choice | AO3

Summary: You and Clavis and little duckling. What more could you ask for?

A/N: Yes, I am aware this is a Spring fic in October... but Clavis's route left some sad spots in my heart, so let me have this. Besides, it's Spring somewhere~

Inspired by @venti-tangents's interpretation of a silly little drawing I posted a little while back.

Dandelion dandruff tickling your nose didn’t wake you. Neither was it the cool taste of pond water splashed on your lips. Or the curtain of sun rays squeezing in-between the canopy of infant leaves from the ancient tree you perched underneath.

No, you were rustled awake by the sound of something much more sinister.

“Peep peep!”

Your eyes shot open only to immediately shut again against the onslaught of the shining spring sun. Gently rubbing your pained peepers, you sat up and stretched your stiff limbs, inhaling your surroundings in an effort to kickstart your senses. There was that dainty smell of dandelion again, mixed with the bubbling perfume of the pond and the airy aroma of your tree trunk bed. Those you could pinpoint easily even with your eyes closed, but it was that last lingering, tingling scent that dangled before you like a pair of carrots on a stick.

“Peep peep peep!”

“Yes, indeed. How very sad.”

Mind adequately alert and elbows and knees appropriately popped, you gave your face a final wipe before testing the waters again. You opened your eyes and scanned the modest clearing only to find everything precisely how you left it before your little nap. Towering cattails growing by the bank. Silky lily pads lazily floating nearby. A picture book you brought along for light reading. Everything just the same… save for the cross-legged prince sitting at the opposite end of the pond.

“I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you. But there is no need for tears now, for you are in comparable company, little one.”

Seemingly oblivious to your waking, possibly even to your presence, Clavis hung his head and spoke to his cupped palms in a light voice barely above the tepid burbling of the pond. Afraid to interrupt the discussion but curious to know his conversation partner, you ducked your head and scooted closer to the bank, your wild bedhead blending brilliantly among the flowers and weeds.

From this vantage point, you could just make out the tiny ball of yellow fluff wiggling in his hands. It couldn’t be, was he talking to a flower? A dandelion, like the ones currently brushing against your forehead? Could this be the day Clavis Lelouch finally jumped off the deep end?

Perhaps it would be best if you slipped away before he noticed.

You began the delicate process of backing out of your foliage hideout, shimmying one leg at a time, taking note of every crack and rock and root that could catch on your skirt. Book safely retrieved, you properly turned around and maneuvered your way farther, hoping to conceal yourself behind the massive tree before making a break for the palace. 

That would have been the ideal happily ever after, right?

“How curious! I’m used to people running away, but never plants! I must have really outdone myself this time!”

His breezy laughter cut your eardrums like a weed wacker, making you freeze in place. Back still towards him, you sheepishly raised your hands in silent surrender, only to feel them brush against something unfamiliar. Your hair may be a sleep-ruffled mess, but this felt thicker and stringier than usual. You plucked the unknown strand and frowned when it revealed to be a dandelion stalk. 

Great, now you topped him in the flora-related insanity department.

Confident footsteps approached in no time, and while you harbored no desire to look upon that irritating triumphant grin he was no doubt wearing, you wanted to retain at least a sliver of your dignity, as subatomic as it plummeted to now.

Jaw rigid, you turned to face him with a challenging glare, only to be stared back at by a pair of beady black eyes and a wrinkly orange bill.

“Ack!” 

You dropped the flower and book and sprang up, back colliding with the tree. If you weren’t fully awake before, now you got your jumpstart for the rest of the year.

“Dearie me, it is only the first day of Spring and already I nabbed a baby duckie and a baby bunny. I see this as glad tidings for the season ahead!”

You swatted the tiny leaves that fell on you away and properly looked at Clavis again. Just as you suspected, a smile sat plastered across his face, though it harbored neither the sense of mischief nor teasing you’d come to associate with the third prince.

It was a sweet smile, like the first blossom of the season, innocent and bright and filled with promises of more to come, and you couldn’t help but feel entranced by the sight as he lifted a gloved finger and gently rubbed the yellow fluff still sitting in his palm.

“Peep peep peep!”

“Oh,” you whispered, crawling closer. “Poor thing.”

“Is he not? I said the same when I found him all alone by the pond,” said Clavis, moving to stroke the duckling’s wing with the gentlest precision. The bird ruffled its feathers appreciatively, raising its cracked orange beak to the sky and letting out more tiny sounds.

You moved closer until you sat directly in front of Clavis, the only thing separating your knees from touching a few wayward bits of fresh grass. This time he turned that syrupy smile to you as he lay the duckling in your lap. “Like a scene from a fairy tale.”

Your head automatically turned to the forgotten book inches from you. Golden embossed letters spelling The Ugly Duckling reflected back in the warm sunlight, and you gently curled your hands around the youngster in your care. The words “comparable company” echoed in your ears, but before you could ask, Clavis stood in a gentlemanly fashion.

“I can see one thing wrong with this picture.” The leopard bowed his head courteously and turned toward the palace. The duckling began to peep louder as his figure faded behind the massive tree, its tiny flippers wagging in distress.

“Wait!” You swiveled your stance toward him, knocking the book aside, your voice startling you more than it did him. But under the shining sun, behind the puzzled expression of the beast you could make out the ugly duckling crying within.

“There’s nothing wrong with this picture.”

*lowers teacup* Oh, this is sweeter than how I typically take my tea. I guess that means the next Clavis fic will have to be extra bitter to balance it out...

If things go well, the next fic I post will be properly Fall-related, I promise.
