synopsis: Levi Ackerman is a guy who would worry a lot about his little sister, and actually get scared for her whenever she is reckless, or gets herself hurt either emotionally or physically and if someone did that to her, consider them dead- but he would be just a good big brother to her and a bit an overprotector cause of the past they have shared and he wants to make sure there is no harm to her. So, when she decides to date one of the scouts, this is where he gets worried and concerned, he starts to watch every move of the person she is dating and will interrogate them, he won't care if its someone he knows, he will make sure they have no bad intentions with his little sister and he would give them his cold and strict glare 24/7 (also he would tease her a lot while she is dating them-).

When Levi found out his little sister was dating Eren, he was quite shocked to be honest and he had to go find her and actually confirm and hear it from her. “Are you actually dating that Kid? Fucking Yeager really?” He would say as he crossed his arms and was giving his little sister one of his looks, where it was him wanting answers from her now.

“W-What about it?” She said nervously, and looked away. ‘Shit, how did he find out?’ She would wonder as she looked around to find an escape route. She would always do that when she knows her big brother is going to give her one of those long lectures. “You are not going anywhere young lady. You are gonna stay here and tell me how the fuck you both started to date.” Now she is trapped.

When Eren found out that the person he was dating is Levi’s little sister, he was scared as fuck. He was worried that Levi would appear out of nowhere and beat him since he is dating his little sister. “Oh my god, Is your big brother going to kill me cause I am dating you?!” He would say and as he held on both of your shoulders and his eyes would wide, he was actually nervous and scared. “No, Don't worry. As long as you are with me, you are fine! He wont dare lay a finger on you.”

Then Levi appeared out of nowhere, “Oh hell yea I will if you mess with my sister, and make a one meter distance from her shithead. I don't want her to catch your germs.”

His little sister then would turn at him and give him a glare, “Levi, stop it.” She would say and give out a long sigh. 

Whenever his little sister comes back from a date with Eren, she would go see her big brother Levi to see how he is doing and he would say to her with a glare. “You were with him, Hm? You’re filthy now, go shower.” His sister would give out a long sigh and tsk at him while leaving his office, she knows Levi says that on purpose cause he started to tease her more ever since she started dating Eren!

Levi would watch and look after his little sister even more when she started dating Eren, because he found him a bit fishy. “Hey, you sure about this?” He would say one evening as they were drinking tea and he sounded serious, Levi would then give her a big brother/sibling talk.

Eren would always wait for you either when you are cleaning, training or in a meeting and Levi would think he was stalking you and following you at first. “What do u think u are doing following MY little sister? You are so fucked kid.” Levi would say approaching Eren, and he was ready to beat him up again. “LEVI WAIT- that’s the guy I am dating now!” Levi would suddenly stop, and turn around with a surprised expression looking at his little sister “Seriously...”

Once, just once, Eren made Levi’s little sister tear up and Levi did not leave him at all that day and was looking for him. He ruined his life that day. Levi’s little sister teared up cause she got ready to go out with Eren, but Eren somehow forgot and stood her out!  Would be scared to make her cry again, cause he doesn’t want to get beaten up by Levi.

She would tease Eren sometimes. Like, “Hey Eren can you do this for me now?”. “No I need to train, not now!”  he would say and he was approaching the training area, “Hmm…okay I’ll go ask Levi instead” Eren stopped from his tracks, and turned around quickly towards her. “W-WAIT! Actually I can make some time.” This would always make her giggle.

Levi would actually find Eren annoying once Eren started to date Levi’s little sister. “I think he has a thing towards us.” Levi would say to his sister as they both looked outside from his office window and looking at Eren who was searching for Levi and his little sister. “He chases around me, and is dating you, why can’t he just leave us alone...Ugh”.

𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗶 𝗭𝗼𝗲

They know Levi worries a lot about his little sister, as she is the only one left who is family to him. So Hanji would update Levi about his little sister from time to time, especially after a date. “Heyyy Levi! Just letting you know that she is doing well and finished her work early today!” Hanji would say cheerfully, and Levi just knows that they had just seen his little sister. But, this gives him a relief to know at least that she is doing well as he is quite busy sometimes to check on her.

Would help his little sister to convince her brother with things. “Don’t worry, I can talk to Levi for you babe!”. Hanji would say with a big smile and a light blush would appear in their cheeks, they want her to depend on Hanji.

“Oi, Don’t send Hanji to me again. I cant even shut them up now ever since you are going out with them.” Levi would say as he gave out a long sigh, defeated by Hanji as he let them win with whatever they were trying to convince him. Hanji would not give up and wants to impress his little sister!

Hanji would be good at lying to help Levi’s little sister out just incase she tried to skip something such as cleaning or some training lessons, and Levi would actually fall for it sometimes.

His little sister and Hanji are loud and squeal a lot, it would Levi go mad and yell out at the both of them to shut up, but Hanji would think he is joining their squeals. “Oh my god....Levi finally joined us!” But, his little sister would go to Hanji and whisper to them “Um…I think he’s mad.”

Literally anything his little sister asks Hanji to do something, they get so happy and hyped up. And Levi sees that and actually finds them both cute, he would also appreciate how Hanji is willing to do anything for her and that makes him glad.

If he sees his little sister really down one day, he would see Hanji trying their best to boost her energy up, and Levi would really admire that about Hanji, making his lil sis happy <3

Levi would definitely intimidate Jean, just to test him (He lowkey thought Jean was a fuckboy) and this would piss his pants.

Whenever Levi passes by his little sister and Jean. Jean would salute to him quickly like an idiot. And to just rub it on his face so Levi can scare him more, Levi would say “Jean, You are not causing trouble to my little sister right?”.

Jean: “N-No Captain!!”

Levi: “Hm, better be.”

“Yo....Your brother is scary. Does he hate me?!” Jean would say, full of concern in his tone as they both looked at Levi who was giving out orders for everyone. “Um...You kinda annoy him to be honest.” She would say as Jean looked down with a sad look. “B-But don't worry! He’s just like that in the beginning.”

Jean can’t believe the sweet, cool and lovely girl he is dating is related to Levi. He had to even make sure and see if their last names matched!

“I-Is your brother here today??” Jean would say to her as he looked around, making sure he wasn't near as they were both alone in the stable. He wanted to give a kiss to her cheeks but he was scared as hell if Levi appeared out of nowhere. “It’s either now or never Kirstein.” 

Jean would try to do more tasks and try and to impress Levi just a bit. He would show him his ODM gear skills, and the only thing he got from Levi is saying “You’re an idiot.” and he would give him a stoic expression and walk away. “Huh..” Jean said as he was left all alone in the training area. Although, Levi did appreciate his hard work.

Levi would seem to like Jean later on as he was observing how he was treating his little sister and it would be with respect, love and even respecting her boundaries and Levi found the guy good, but won’t admit it.

Finds it amusing how he gets a small gift for Levi’s little sister every time whenever he went out to town, “Okay, he got taste.”

He also likes Jean because he found out he is hygienic and clean, and how he always presents himself clean and tidy, with a nice outfit every time he goes on a date with his sister during the weekend. “She’s in her bedroom, she will come for you soon.” Levi would say as he opened the door for Jean to enter their small house and Jean would stand like a stickman, too afraid to do anything that would upset Levi. “Hey brat, are you alright?”. It lowkey made Levi chuckle, and Jean thought this was it for him when he heard his small laugh.

Levi got now, two idiots to deal with. His sister and Connie, who would always bother him with stuff and their stupid games they keep telling Levi to join.

They actually do a lot of pranks on Levi, most of it is Connie’s idea and Levi’s little sister would agree with them and try to do it. But if they get caught, Connie would take the blame and when he does that and Levi sees how he would never bring his sister involved he would just let it slide.

Levi actually likes him, because he makes his little sister laugh a lot with his jokes, and Connie always tries his best to make sure he does that at least once everyday. He would say the most random things and she would laugh and Levi would look at her and think ‘That was not even funny...But, at least she is laughing.’ 

She would get in trouble sometimes with Connie, and if Levi found out, Connie would immediately defend you and just babble about things that did not even make sense. This would make Levi be so confused and even get lost in track to what he was even saying at the beginning. His little sister would try and hold back her laughter. Levi would just sit there, give up with the conversation and say “You know what, Forget it. You both are dismissed.” After they left, Connie would say with a big smile “See! I told you I could convince him!” “Connie...You weren’t even- Nevermind.”

When Levi walks in the hallway and hears someone laughing, he would know it’s Connie making his sister laugh and he actually smiles about it. He would later come in after they finished laughing and talking (giving them some time) and Levi would say “Oi, idiots. Focus on your work.”

Such a mature boy when he dates Levi’s little sister, and to be honest Levi would have no problem with him dating his little sister.

He’s also a softie and always makes sure he gives what his girl wants, and Levi appreciates that how he is willing to do his best for his little sister only.

Levi can tell before they were dating how Armin would always look at Levi’s little sister, admiring her beauty and character and Levi would think to himself ‘This kid is so lovestruck’

Levi would go to his sister later on and let her know that someone is interested in her, “Who is it!” She would say blushing and looking at Levi, waiting for a response. “Hm...You will find out soon. I think he will ask you out.” Levi would say as he flipped through the papers he had. “Oh come on tell me big bro!!!” Levi liked teasing his sister and he would then say “Okay...I will tell you if you bring me some tea.” And, even after she does that Levi wouldn’t say it and she would want to beat him up.

During missions, he trusts Armin to be with his little sister since he knows he will protect her and have her back while he is away.

Armin wants to prove to Levi that he is capable of taking care of his little sister too! And he would risk his life for her, Levi knowing that would go up to Armin and say “That’s nice and all, but use your brain and don’t die. Besides...that would make my little sister sad and I wont forgive you if you do that.” That was the only time Levi was real and showed his way of trust to Armin, and that made him happy.

When Levi goes to the library, he would spot his little sister with Armin being all lovey dovey as he wanted to go and grab a book. “Tch, what do you think you both are doing?” Levi had no idea that they were actually on a date and both of them were blushing and were shy. But, he lowkey found that adorable. Later on, his sister would yell at him at how he ruined her date and he would say “Yeah yeah....Sorry.”

Armin would ask Levi sometimes what his little sister likes such as food, her favorite jewelry, or literally anything and Levi would say while raising his eyebrows, “Ask her yourself brat.”

For special occasions he would go for Levi to ask what would he do to make his little sister super happy and Levi appreciates the thought. So, he somehow ends up telling him some ideas and it was a secret plan between them to surprise her.

Armin would ask Levi to train him to be stronger after he starts dating Levi’s little sister, so he can be strong and protect her. “You will never reach my level, but sure.” Levi would say teasing Armin and after every training session, Armin is knocked out, laying on the ground. “Levi!!! What did you do now?” His little sister would yell out running towards Armin who was on the ground, “What? The brat said he wanted me to train him.”

oh god this feels like an emotionally abusive relationship- you’re very sensitive, this isn’t news to anyone who knows you. tsuki is kinda a jerk and as much as i loved his character development, it doesn’t stray from the fact that he isn’t an emotionally available person- at least not enough to date you specifically. if you had a bad day and he doesn’t give you the amount of attention or doesn’t give helpful advice, you would take it to heart and 9/10 times would cause a tsunami of tears. and again, these aren’t necessarily bad traits but in a relationship if you’re clingy with him, he’s going to respond negatively- his relationship with yamaguchi would be the exact way he would treat you so you can’t expect special attention. he’ll introduce you as his friend and you’d be too shy to correct him - it feels like the whole relationship will just be you apologizing for tsuki’s words and actions to others and as much as i love you, you wouldn’t have a strong enough voice against him and his “jerkish” tendencies. ok first, i love them, so jot that down lmao i’m just going to be rambling w/ the information i have today!! which is ep7 of the anime & vol.10 of the manga!!

the first thing i want to touch on is this recent idea that kuro is with iwanaga by force, or her persistence, or not having romantic feelings for her... and even though i can see why people have that conclusion, i feel like a big factor to that ideal has been from 1) their romance has been subtext because of the genre and the fact that their relationship is established, and 2) the fact that kuro’s character, especially in the anime, is flat and often misconstrued... when he both has valid reasons for his characterization and has proven that he genuinely cares for her, her well-being, and their relationship. 

again!! i must repeat!! they are together in an established romantic relationship. this is not a budding romance, so we’re not going to get a lot of moments of them realizing their feelings/etc. he may have moments where he’s not prioritizing her, but he always makes up for it, and shows that he goes out of his way to make her happy. yes, he teases her relentlessly, and yes, he says he’s going to break up with her..... but literally all of his actions indicates his care.

also, the second thing i want to touch upon is that kuro and kotoko’s relationship is complicated because individually, they are complicated themselves. kuro’s lack of attachment can be explained away with the abuse of his grandmother, his strange relationship with rikka, and the fact that he’s immortal (like, why is he going to get legally married when he’ll never have a death certificate?). kotoko flirts, sure, but she’s distant herself. she’s shown that she has no hesitation of bending ethics to uphold the natural order, and that her job will always become before everything, even her health. before kuro, she’s described to being to herself and rare to any emotional outburst. nonetheless, she’s still a rich, protected daughter that was found dismembered... like she has her own rich backstory that doesn’t go away just bc she talks about being horny 24/7 lol

ok more things under the cut bc of spoilers and i cant be vague anymore:

THIRD THING!! another thing that gets brought about kuro’s feelings and it’s the fact that he has feelings for his cousin and saki still. therefore, his relationship with kotoko is strictly platonic... but that’s... that’s just not the case. i need to break this down into parts bc WHEW I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS

FIRST, if kuro has feelings for rikka, then there should have been no problem for them to be together. in the recent volume (10), she literally states that he was supposed to be hers... but what eventually ended up happening is the fact that kuro did get closer with kotoko. 

and see, the thing with that is..... if kuro has had nothing but feelings for rikka, then his relationship with saki wouldn’t have happened in the first place either. not to sound pro-inc*st, but they are immortal beings and the last of their family line. there’s literally nothing stopping them besides kuro not wanting to pursue a romantic relationship with rikka... and he didn’t. he got engaged to saki instead.

kuro has also stated that rikka was only in the hospital because she wanted to be mortal again, aka she wanted to die... but why? there’s events that we’re missing and won’t get to see into later down the line. regardless, it’s safe to say that kuro loves rikka to his full capacity as family and as someone who shared his same horrid past, but he doesn’t love her more than that. (he also said she was a monster beforehand anyway so.... idk, maybe that has something to do with that LOL.)

but that also brings us to the next thing: why saki?

it’s been clear that he dates saki because she looked like rikka. they were together to the point of engagement and talks of marriage, but nothing came into fruition bc he’s an immortal that scares off spectres.

but thats the thing too, their relationship would’ve never worked bc 1) he was always hiding the fact on who he was, and 2) again, he is immortal. maybe she was his attempt to be normal, but kuro’s very aware of his situation at all times. i don’t doubt he loved saki, but a lot of his residual feelings from the lady steel arc indicate guilt rather than lingering feelings.

and of course, he feels freaking guilty!!! he lied to her about his condition, and then scared her to the point where she couldn’t even eat certain meats. that’s a heavy burden to be at fault for. (luckily, they do resolve this and apologize to each other!! but that’s the thing too: be the end of lady steel, they aren’t letting go of their feelings. they’ve been aware that their relationship was over for a long time and that they both moved on. there were just some leftover wounds.)

AND AHHH!!!! i think its also to point out the fact that rikka approved saki (aka her clone), but she never approved kotoko. rikka said that she thought she could wait for kuro to get tired of kotoko, but he never did. that’s why kotoko became a bigger threat than she already was. not only was she an indicator that kuro wasn’t looking for rikka in people, but because his feelings for kotoko are genuine. it drives rikka to the point of insanity bc she literally is trying to create something to kill a god.

so to summarize: kuro loves rikka, but only as family. kuro dates saki bc she reminded him of rikka (aka probably the only he did know in his fucked up childhood), but it doesn’t work out bc he’s immortal anyway. kuro dates and ends up having actual feelings for kotoko, which brings us to the present and why rikka feels threatened to the point of violence.

also, since we’re nearing the end, there’s something also interesting about kuro and kotoko’s relationship that i’ve thought about since their christmas chapter. kuro is a broke college student. kotoko is an heiress. they’re constantly going on trips and dates, but for the most part, kuro is going out of his way to treat kotoko. he’s thankful for her parents for taking in rikka, but there’s not a plot about him being indebted to her/etc... and i’ve been thinking about this since the christmas chapter bc he chose to work at his part-time job than spend it with her. at first, it’s easy to be upset about it...... but again, kuro’s a broke college student. of course, he needs to work a lot. he not only has school, bills, and groceries, but he’s trying to accommodate kotoko to a lifestyle where she’s happiest in (like a goOD BOYFRIEND) and it makes me wanna cry ok

in conclusion, i just think it’s dumb to act like these two aren’t together or that they don’t have feelings for each other. it’s there. in fact, it’s probably the only constant/consistent thing in a story with a lot of moving parts. they both lead incredibly complicated lives, but they’re there for each other.

i won’t lie, kuro talks a lot of shit lmao, but i don’t get how that’s different from kotoko being overly sexual/vulgar when she doesn’t mean it either. kuro literally told her that he needs her and her response was telling him to not think he’s hot shit lololol. i get also bc kotoko’s overtly sexual (and lbr, attracts a lot of lolicons), so if she’s not being praised/not being treated like a princess by kuro, then that makes him a worse boyfriend... but he doesn’t treat her poorly. hell, that pinocchio proved that she really takes for granted that he dies a lot of her sometimes to the point with other spectres (aka the things that want to see kuro die LOL) think she (aka their god that they praise 24/7) is harsh.

but that’s what being in a relationship too is. you’re not going to appreciate someone at all hours of the day, but the point is, you have to be constantly taking care of each other, even when you don’t want to. kuro and kotoko are constantly taking care of each other, and thinking of each other’s well-being first and foremost. they might bicker, but that’s a fact that’s always acknowledged by everyone around them, despite initial opinions.

and tbh, i feel like kuro also feels a lot of guilt for rikka. maybe not for returning her feelings, but because his happiness with another person (kotoko) was the catalyst of her running away and causing havoc. i think that adds another layer to his distance with kotoko, but it doesn’t mean he has feelings for her romantically. what i really appreciate about the story is the fact that as simple as things are presented, there’s always a complex reason/backstory for it. there’s never a single moving part for anything. there’s plenty of motives and reasons.

He wouldn’t say he had a ‘ hobby ‘ per se. Sometimes he would play games on his phone, or go to the store to get food. He would have tea at that one cafe where they didn’t seem to be freaked out by his height. He would take long showers and wash his hair. Sometimes he would watch TV. It all seemed pretty normal to him. He knew that if he hadn’t had his job, he would’ve spent a lot of his ‘ free time ‘ getting into fights. Thankfully he got all the fighting he needed at work. It really was the best job ever. 

     Nnoitra preferred to spend ALL his time with Grimmjow, but of course - that couldn’t happen. Though, now that Grimmjow wasn’t working anymore, whenever Nnoitra wasn’t at work, they could be together. It was nice, even if Nnoitra knew Grimmjow hated not having a job.  ❝ When I ain’t at work, I spend all my time with Grimmjow. So, nah, we ain’t ‘tagetha’ 24/7, but close. ❞ He felt like he couldn’t really say that he DID do anything other than spend time with Grimmjow, since he didn’t. They were always together, and this was the way Nnoitra preferred it. For Grimmjow’s sake though, he hoped he would find a job soon. No doubt that would be good for him, despite how it would mean they would get to spend less time together.

well what a horrible 2 months of my life its been for me. Tomorrow i have a meeting with the general manager of my work to talk about im assuming getting back to work which is what i need because im slowly going insane staying in the house 24/7 its done nothing good for me being off sick from work all ive done is stop caring for myself as in not showering for weeks on end brushing my teeth washing my face I've stopped eating properly and now when i try and eat i sick it all back up my anxiety has gotten so bad due to me barely going out so when i actually do decided to go out i get extremely bad anxiety I've  become a horrible person with everything in my personal life which has gone off. so me and my mum bought a very expensive dog on impulse because our only dog we ever had died nearly a year ago and we missed having a dog in the house little did we know this dog was going to ruin our life and split up our whole family. My mum came home from work one day and he was in his cage and he wet his bad she was tired and mad and said she had enough of having this dog because i wasn't looking after him properly and we couldn't cope with him anymore because hes a baby and he needs 24.7 around the clock attention you cant leave him for a second because at 4 months old he is still not house trained so he thinks its acceptable to do his business in the house so you cant just leave him in the room out of fear hes going to do something hes not one of those dogs you can just sit on the sette with because he wants your attention all the time and wants you to play with him 24/7 and hes exhausting and difficult to look after since he wakes us all up at 4 every morning and you have to stay with him from 4-11 at night so you might understand why we are all psychically exhausted and wanted to get rid of him so my mum made a phone call t my cousin who knew some people who wanted a dog we was adamant on selling him so my cousin contacted her friend that wanted a dog and she was about to come round when me and my mum decided we wanted to keep him bad idea which didn't go down well with my cousin because it basically caused an extremely bad family argument my cousin wanted nothing to do wth my mum because of how she had treated her and how she messed about her friend with our dog and no one was really talking to my mum in my family because of what she had done to this family and she was crying every night she was saying she was going to kill herself and it was a lot because i had her putting her constant problems on my shoulders when i have my own problems its a lot to deal with slowly they all started talking to my mum again and she apologised to everyone and all was fine my dad claims my mum and dad have had problems for years and he told me that he doesn't love my mum the same anymore and that she's told so many lies over the years he doesn't know what t do anymore my mum was taking advantage of my money and has drained my dad for years and i was getting pulled into the middle of the marriage problems and obviously thats extremely upsetting for me because at the moment i basically live in a broken home my dad is in a constant bad mood with my mum and most the time hes really off with her and doesn't want to speak to her they argue pretty much all the time and then obviously it upsets my mum so she starts crying again all of these things that have been going on since i went off work have slowly made me feel worse than i already was feeling and everything is really getting to me now and i dont know how to deal or cope with anything i dont really want to go back to work because of everything that happened there and its just some dead end retail job anyway that doesn't pay enough and doesn't fullfil my happiness anymore i really want to become a makeup artist but evrryone is telling me that its an unrealistic job because its some competitive but it would make me extremely happy to go off to makeup school to study something i love rather than do an apprenticeship in something that doesnt really fuss me and i eventually wont be interested in anymore and then ill start to hate my job and not want to go to work. i cant remeber everything thats gone on in the past 2 months in complete detail but thats basically an over view to clear my head i just hope i can get back to work and start saving up some money i dont want to be working therefore ever because its not something i want to do for the rest of my life i just want to stay there to pay off my tattoos and stuff i feel like once i convince my boyfriend that ill be happier going to make up school ill be happy because i really care about his opinion and i cant go out and do something if he hasnt approved of it because then ive disappointed him and he’ll basically say i told you so which is annoying because i basically feel like i cant do anything without my boyfriend being extremely judgemental about it for example i cant go out and buy the clothes i want because he wont like them i feel like i have to get approval of every tattoo idea i want on my body for it to be good enough i cant do anything to my hair without telling him first i guess i shouldnt almost let someone control me like that but i do because hes made me care so much about what he thinks

how do we describe him

he can be the sweetest, most caring & most protective brother one could ever ask for

but at moments you feel like punching yourself because he’s like clueless 24/7 and he asks for you help with everything

back then when both of yall were 12, your parents had to leave the country for a business trip for a few days

and for some reason they trusted the both of you to stay at home and not cause any trouble

two hours after they leave, he disappears into the kitchen for fifteen minutes

you hear a slight shout from him

then you see him going into your room with an embarrassed smile and giggle

but he’s always there to help you out in school?

he left school early just to find you

and thank goodness he found you at your favourite park just staring blankly

then he shouted at you for not telling him and making him worry, saying how he’s upset and scared that you had gotten in trouble

but as soon as he saw you cry

he’d soften and apologise for shouting

and become the sweetest brother ever!! he’d let you cry on his shoulders and listen to your problems

he even offered to treat you to your favourite ice cream?? aw

and is always interested to hear stories or interesting things that happen between you two

aside from all that

he’s really supportive!

everything you do he’d give you positive feedback and give you encouraging words if you need it

because after all you both are siblings/twins, you have the same personality and he understands how you feel deeply so he tries his best to motivate you while he can

makes really bad jokes all the time

but you still laugh because hey, at least he’s trying

and he gets all giggly and confident after that

We all go a little mad sometimes...

*Before we begin, I will start off by saying that the next few posts on here are going to deal with some pretty sensitive stuff. Depression. Grief. Anger. Hopelessness. But also, it will cover coping and overcoming. Because there is so much to cover, I am going to break this up into several minisodes.  If you are someone who might be in the “Way to Overshare, Asshole” troop, I would recommend that you skip the first couple. But if there is anyone who may be going through a giant shit pie right now, perhaps this will bring a little hope and encouragement to reach out and to take care of yourself. So settle in for the first act...

First off, thank you to everyone who reached out to make sure that i was alright. As it turns out, I, in fact, was NOT alright. Pretty fucking far from alright actually (despite all of the denials). As I walked in to work on Sunday, I could feel that I was off. Almost as though I was having a spike in blood sugar. I figured that I would eat the yogurt that I packed for lunch and everything would be honky-dorey, but each scoop had to be forced down past the large knot in my throat. As I sat at my desk, I tried answering every question from my co-workers with a smile on my face, but I could not force one through. While walking around at work, I tried lifting my head and make eye contact with people, but it was like my neck just would not straighten. I could not look anyone in their eyes when I spoke. When trying to make a call, I would have to take deep breaths and collect myself for a minute or more. Eventually the anxiety and the hyperventilating started. I was in the beginning stages of a full blown mental breakdown. But before we get into all of THAT, let me give you a little backstory...

There were several reasons behind me moving back to the Flower City. That is a long story for another time. I will sum all of them up and say that I came for a fresh start, and right off the bat I could see that this was not going to be the case. I am a strong, independent motherfucker, so I just knew that I could handle whatever life threw at me. I had expected a few bumps in the road once I had arrived in NY. It did not matter, because I had a plan. I had a vision of my future. But just like one of my old sponsors once said, “Want to make God laugh? Make a plan.” Thinking back on that now, it makes me chuckle. I bet Tyrone would be smiling that huge smile of his listening to me telling this story right now.  

After being spoiled by the relatively mild winters of the south, I knew that my first winter back was going to be rough. I apparently had forgotten how much of a bitch these winters up here were! For my Out-of-Region guests...it is cold. And dark! At one point I did not see the sun for an entire month. Seeing nothing but snow and gray skies for 5 months is tough on the morale. The constant gloom makes being chipper 24/7 a challenge. I did my very best not to let it get me down, but I could not help but notice how my mood started slipping. The irritability started ramping up. The outbursts of anger came much quicker than usual.  I hoped that once the weather got better, my moods would get better again. It was just the dreariness of the winter. So I kept trucking along. When the family issues started getting real bad, I stuffed it down. I can push forward. Spring is coming. Everything will get better then. When I had to walk away from the love of my life...the kind of love that only comes along once, I kept trucking forward. I stuffed it down. Spring is coming. Everything will get better then. When my dad died, I took care of what I needed to do, and returned to NY ready to get back to work. Stuffed the pain, the confusion, the anger, the frustration...deep down inside. Once spring comes, things will get better. All of the jealousy building up by weddings, by engagements, by anniversaries, all of the births of those around me...I took them and buried them deep down inside. All of the rejections (because lemme tell ya, dating at 40 is a HOOT!) All of the mistakes that I made and all of the guilt of my actions....I did not pay attention to them. Spring is coming. Everything will get better. When my best friend was in the hospital, all of that fear got stuffed deep down. I gotta stay strong. I got this.  But then came the death of my grandmother. I had no room to stuff something as big as that. I will save the stories of my grandmother for another post, but I will say that for the last few years I was wondering how I was going to react to my Nana's passing. Turns out, the answer to that is Not So Well.

I am not sure exactly when the unraveling started, but I know that I have felt incomplete for quite a while. As life hit me with jab after jab, I slowly started feeling myself slipping away. I was able to make it through an 8 hour shift at work and could act like myself. When I finally broke the news to my supervisors that my grandmother's death was affecting me more than I may have thought, they could not believe that there was even anything going on, because I was able to perform my job at the usual level and act like my normal, outgoing, enjoyable self. They only could see what I wanted them to see. Everyone did. They saw me laughing. They saw me joking around. They saw me get serious when I needed to. But having to do that everyday was getting exhausting. I knew that eventually it would have to end. Because what they did NOT see was the sudden breakdown into tears on my drive home. They could not see the nights that I would collapse onto my kitchen floor, lying there, full of fear and terror and loneliness. They would never guess the effort that it would sometimes take just to crawl out of bed and get ready for work. Sometimes the BEST that I could do was to hold it together long enough to make it through my shift. The unraveling was already in place.

On Sunday, I had woken up feeling off. There were events that transpired the day before that made me feel  extremely disappointed in myself. The entire drive to work I felt like was in a daze. I don't remember anything on the radio. I cant recall anything about my commute. As I walked up to the building, my eyes kept welling up with tears. I don't know what I was sad about. I don't remember what was upsetting me. I was just wiped clean. Numb. I sat down at my station and begin setting up just like I do every other day. But looking around, things did not seem the same. I tried making conversation with a coworker who I have not seen in over a month, and I tried smiling through her stories, but I don't remember what they had pertained to. When people would come by asking how I was today, I would try and force a smile and say “Fine”, but there was NO WAY that it could be believable anymore. The plan of attack needed to change. The mission was no longer “Fake it till you make it”. It went to Code Red. It was now Operation Just Make It Through The Fucking Day. But with every minute that passed, the tension inside kept building up. The restlessness started setting in. A supervisor asked if I was alright. “I can perform my job. That's all that matters” was my response. Yeah, that didn't last long.

I ended up running a fairly simple rescue. But it seemed like everything I attempted to do required SO MUCH effort! 3 hours into my shift, I messaged my supervisor back. “I need to leave. I thought I could make it through my shift. I'm sorry.” On my ride home I contacted an old friend and former therapist who listened to me as I broke down everything that has been going on. And as I walked from my car to my front door, I remember telling myself “You just have to make it to the couch”. And that was as far as I got. The next few hours were spent having panic attacks and crying spells. I contacted one of my Leads at work and told him that I was not doing well. I needed to take a few days off from work. Mental health days. I needed to heal. I had cracked.

We all go a little mad sometimes. Haven’t you?
