#and it would probably be the same for binary trans ppl and that's also not great

so i'm reading through my school's dorm orientation and i've gotten to the section on having guests over, and it says overnight guests must be of the same gender as the occupant...so is...is this heterophobia. if a girl can bring a girl over for the night but not a boy (or vice versa). never thought i'd see the day.

more fuckin...... dirkthoughts. trans thoughts
all dirks and dirk-adjacents in my mind and my aus are trans in some way. all of them. transmasc usually but again the flavour will vary
beta dirk is a binary trans man whos been on t for definitely more than a decade. pretty much as soon as he was able to he got on t. hes had top surgery and is pretty proud of his scars (insanely happy with the result in general really) but at the same time he doesnt like ppl seeing them cause they invite questions. he hasnt had any phallo or meta done but his bottom growth is like. insane. he prefers having the option to put on and take off any dick he pleases. also how many dudes can boast about having a rainbow dragon dick cmon. he passes real fuckin well and lets people assume hes cis (hes not Stealthtm he just doesnt like most people assuming which bits hes got cause hes an insanely private person and his body being looked at/messed with in ways he hasnt fully consented to, and/or is in control of, ties into his lil cal trauma). his strap is really nice black leather with brassy metal hardware. he leaves it flopped over the futon sometimes and dave assumes its just leather pride wear for like the longest time. whoops
alpha dirk has not gone on t. he has not had any surgery nor does he wear a binder. like his stance on sexuality labels, gender labels feel... not Outdated to him but moreso not as needed cause when he was growing up humanity was at a count of 2. he was closeted right up until his friends actually saw him through sburb and then in the medium. the only other person who knew about his thoughts + feelings about gender was roxy until that point (who was also going through his own background gender crisis. rox went through comp-cis for sure). but dirk very intentionally never mentioned anything gender related in regards to himself other than introducing himself as A Boy. jakes comment about if dirk were a girl hed date him gave him a huge wobble. he nearly considered comp-cis-ing himself bc it felt like Dating Jake was right there. but he didnt dirk is super used to and comfortable with not wearing a shirt cause again he spent the first 16yrs of his life absolutely physically alone, so he also doesnt really have a problem going topless in front of his friends. his body isnt gendered nor will it ever be gendered. hes a boy whos also not a boy but definitely not a girl. he is a secret worse third thing. jake got really silly the first time dirk just threw his top off in front of him though hahaha. if dirk ever did choose a label that best describes him itd probably be boyflux/enbyflux
if you asked hal whether he considers himself trans he would say "Technically, by someone else's definitions, possibly." but he mostly doesnt care to think about it. hes always been a guy. the act of porting himself from fiberoptics and binary to shades to a fully functional android chassis does count as a physical transition to him but not so much in the traditional organic-human way

(Self-hating trans girl from the previous ask)
Thanks for responding! Could you clarify what "third-sexing" and "degendering" mean? Why is it inherently violent? For context (since I unintentionally made it sound like this was based on Janice Raymond's views), my view on the possibility of trans women being a third sex was mostly influenced by the article "A Rose is a Rose: The Nomenclature of Sex and Oppression" by Margaret Deirdre O'Hartigan (you can find it in issue 5 of the TransSisters journal on the Internet Archive: archive.org/details/transsistersjou1994unse_1). The article was originally published in 1980, a year after The Transsexual Empire was published, and the author responded to a lot of terf beliefs, but she argued that trans women should be a third sex instead of women (she used "changeling" as a new name for them).
The question of trans men being a fourth sex especially wasn't something I thought about. My instinctive response is no, that I don't think there's a problem with them using the label of "man" or using male spaces, but I don't know why I think this about trans men but not trans women. The terf response to something like this would usually be "because trans women are male (and therefore dangerous)", but honestly this neglects the fact that, even if they were both classified under the same name, trans women just aren't the same group as cis men and aren't treated the same (which was also the basis of them being a third sex in the first place). I guess it just feels wrong in a way that I can't explain, so it probably has a lot more to do with internalized transphobia/transmisogyny than any reasoned argument.
Anyways thank you for explaining your view on this, it helped me change my mind. I got into terf beliefs in like 2022/2023 and it's been a gradual process of trying to unlearn. I don't hate trans people, and I love and care about trans women, but lots of terf ideas can feel almost inarguable in spite of that. I got as far as non-essentialism, but it wasn't really clear to me how that leads to a pro-trans position so I was just stuck there for a while. The article I mentioned earlier about trans women being a third sex was basically the only pro-trans explanation from that standpoint that made sense to me.
of course! third-sexing (as i was using it) is just the act of deeming trans women a third sex instead of women, and degendering is stripping someone of gender and usually entails dehumanization as a result. it can simply refer to instances where trans women are they/them'd, for example, but the sense in which i use it and have mostly seen it used (on socmed, admittedly, though there's academic writings on this definition too) is something more like how black women are seen as lesser women to the extent that they would be grouped in with men and face violence or just not grouped in with other women. and since humanity is intertwined with gender, the degendered person is seen as less human as a result. it's not a term exclusive to black women though, arguably all woc are degendered (particularly brown/black/darkskinned women), intersex women, lesbians and trans women. women who have traits that are considered masculine.
why degendering is violent is more apparent with the way i described it, and i would say third-sexing is a form of degendering and that's part of why it's violent. since the two gender system is normal, denying trans women's womanhood is a denial of their normalcy. this argument isn't sufficient though as some ppl (nonbinary ppl like myself) declare a denial of the binary and thus, normalcy, but this doesn't mean they desire marginalization. so being acknowledged as outside of the gender binary is not always violent, but third-sexing in particular is.
as to why third-sexing is inherently violent, i touched on this in my last response but i think the world shows evidence of this. i have no theoretical basis for why i think this, just the practical basis that third sex groups in diff cultures (like hijra or fa'afafine) are marginalized and many identify themselves as women, but in spite of this are said to be a third sex by onlookers. a denial of womanhood so often means violence for trans women. in this precarious situation, it seems counterintuitive to suggest a roundabout solution when the solution has already been recommended from the majority of those people, yk? i know that sounds flimsy, but i hope i can expand upon my feelings by sharing more about third-sexing.
a possible counterargument here is, what about nonbinary people? if trans women are marginalized by being forced out of the gender/sex binary, wouldn't nonbinary people also be? and so, rather than arguing that trans women are women, wouldn't it be better to just dismantle the gender binary as a whole? and in the long term, yes. but being recognized as women keeps trans women safe now. nonbinary people being outside of the gender binary is just an additional layer of marginalization they have to deal with for the sake of their authentic identity. and i don't mean to pose trans women and nb people as mutually exclusive groups, ofc trans women can also be nonbinary but i think i would have to say a lot more words to try and qualify what i mean to not give off that impression temporarily. lmao.
i'm retreading here, but i think it's important to hone in on the fact that self identification of gender in trans people helps destroy the myth of an innate gender & sex. this is lost if trans women are seen as a third sex, considered too marked by maleness to be women. the idea of being endlessly marked by maleness is itself bioessentialistic and leaves no hope for women to ever be free of oppression, if male violence goes beyond the social. and ultimately, i suppose i just don't think there's much of an argument for trans women to be a third sex instead of women beyond discomfort, especially if you don't feel the same about trans men. trans men are more often perceived as just women or men i think, and there's less contention about them being taken as either of those groups than trans women being taken in as women. i see the trans women i know as women, and the world knows this too, though they claim otherwise.
about that transsisters article, i read it and i sympathize with it, but it does seem a little outdated. for example, it uses "h*rmaphrodites" to refer to intersex people, and the publication even acknowledges this lapse in terminology. referring to people on the fringes of sex as "changelings" is romantic, and i appreciate the way she justifies it in terms of magic keeping a group alive, but practically i do think it's a bit othering and implies impersonation. no hate to her for using it for herself, she can reclaim that language if she wants. i found she also identified as an "archigalli," chief priestess of the gallae (transsexual roman priestesses) she discussed in the piece after "a rose is a rose." i think this identification shows she may have romanticized the third sex role without having experienced the full brunt of its effects, as most third sex groups are in colonized societies afaik. i would recommend this piece on hijra and third-sexing to get some insight into their oppression and problem with third sex roles.
margaret deirdre o'hartigan identifies as a transsexual woman now, i think, based on this interview with the university of minnesota. she still has some comparatively conservative views about transsexual people for a trans activist, like reservations about lia thomas. i had these same reservations when i was a terf, but knowledge is power, and looking up things showed me it's merely an issue of transmisogynistic discomfort rather than any genuine wrongdoing on lia thomas' part. i think it's important to remember that, and to skeptically look into conservative rhetoric about trans people. you can still have reservations about some things, like the rare misogynistic trans woman, without forsaking faith in yourself and trans women as a whole. a shitty trans person doesn't have to act as confirmation of anything about yourself or others.
and truly its my pleasure! i made this account in the hopes of offering another (radical feminist) perspective so i'm happy it's serving its purpose. i got into terf beliefs before you did but it seems like they haven't evolved much at all. you're getting out pretty recently so do give yourself grace as you unlearn these things. i didn't mean to insinuate that you hated trans people, i sure didn't, some of it is just internalized transphobia and then there's just a shit load of propaganda working against us. just center your love of other trans people and women and you will be okay 💙
im very glad i could help, but my asks and messages are always open if you need anything else. happy deprogramming! 🎉

My pipeline was pretty basic. Nothing serious
It was like "Haha I'm cishet but online I'm androgenous bc I think it would be funny to make ppl confused about my gender while staying safe online 👍." (I didn't know what transgender was or being gay outside of knowing it was an insult) (some kids may have clocked I was gay before I did tho bc of the frequent use of it towards me. Crazy)
To "Haha I'm gonna roleplay as being gay for the plot" (I still dunno what being gay is rlly.)
"wait...wait no wait I actually...like this girl outside of roleplay. Am I...gay????" (I end up believing I may be a lesbian.)
"Oh wait no...wait...AM I BI? NO WAIT AM I PAN?" (I AM STILL NOT TELLING PPL MY GENDER.)
"Wait... something... something is weird about me...am I ace? Also I'm bi now" (I very briefly take on the lithromantic label after I gave it to the same trans guy character.)
"WOAH WAIT MY FRIEND FROM SCHOOL WHO INTRODUCED ME TO THE CONCEPT OF THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY IS TRANS? THATS SO COOL w a i t...am I..? Nah" (Questioning to not)
(Important note, I made a character who's a trans guy and fixated on him hard for several years and roleplayed as him a lot. I felt very connected to him for some reason.)
"Wait no I can't be ace haha. Also I'm pan now"
"WAIT MY PARTNER IS NONBINARY?!! THATS CRAZY!!! ...Am I also non-binary?? Haha nah. Can't be."
"Wait...no I'm definitely ace...but...also I think I'm bi??? Again?"
"...I think I'm aroace guys. NAAAAH. Nah nah. Just ace!!" (I've started wearing multiple bras to compress my boobs and I hide myself in hoodies and baggy pants when possible bc #1 I'm ashamed of my body for multiple reasons. But #2 I'm also trying to see if I feel any better from it.)
"OH MY GOD...GUYS I THINK IM TRANS!!! WAIT... OH...OH MY GOD. ???" (I switch from they/them pronouns to he/him to he/they :D Still weird about neopronouns unfortunately) (I say I'm Nonbinary, Genderfluid, Demigender, Neutrois. I settle on Agender.)
[Fast forward flopping between bi/pan labels and firmly cemented in my asexuality and embarrassing Kalvin Garrah years]
"Haha am I Nonbinary? ...nah" (Literally my nonbinary teacher had most definitely clocked me but I'm in denial) (I've literally made a nonbinary character who I continue to write about constantly and even have them come out to characters modeled after my friends.)
[It's a year later. We've now hit the pandemic.]
"...Guys I think I'm aro...no I'm not...yes I am. No???? I'm confused WAIT AM I NOT ACE EITHER? No actually I definitely am. I might be a lesbian tho. No NVM." (like 3 years. Straight) (Specifically Demi-Ace to GrayAce pipeline. Malisian is also a label I take.)
"HAHA IM QUEER AND NOTHING MATTERS!!!" (I stop thinking about it too much.)
Literally 19 days ago: *WAKES UP IN A COLD SWEAT* "I might be demiromantic guys." *goes back to sleep*
Now: "WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I'M QUEER" (I still don't think about it as much anymore. I use a variety of pronouns. I am probably aspec. Definitely genderqueer.)
LGBTQ+ folk what was your gender/sexuality pipeline?

This is zero offence intended to anyone who does use micro labels or find micro labels helpful bcs microlabels slay if they give u a deeper understanding and acceptance of ur own gender identity or sexuality !! I personally don't use micro labels bcs they do not give me (again only speaking from my own experience) a deeper understanding of myself or my gender or sexuality so if I used them all they would do is make my identity more palatable and understandable to cishet/cis ppl in general tbh. And I like being confusing! bcs I think we need to destroy the notion that ur gender identity and sexuality need to make sense / not be contradictory or that ur identity needs to be understood by other people to be ""valid"". People are complicated and our identities aren't necessarily straightforward.
Like I identify as asexual. Could I identify as grey ace or demisexual? Probably yeah but I can't be fucked to research microlabels bcs i like the term ace and actually if ur confused when I say I'm asexual but would have sex in specific circumstances I don't care !!!
I identify as a binary trans man and also agender. I'm not a demi boy or trans masc bcs I'm not ever a binary trans man and agender at the same time. It changes day to day. Could i identify as gender fluid or bigender? Yeah probably but I don't want to and I don't care if its confusing !!
Trying to shove people in neat little boxes doesn't work! And as a community we are trying to escape the boxes of society but then enforce more strict boxes by saying ppl can only identify in a certain way.
Not saying everyone has to have a confusing identity or you can't like the singular box ur in thats completely fine it just shouldn't be the expectation that everyone should have a neat and tidy and easily summed up identity

the most recent ask (about being wrong) reminded me of something
i just find it so, so, so frustrating when ppl have it ingrained into them that spending long periods of time discovering themself is wrong and u MUST KNOW THIS INSTANT or else u will explode or be killed by the gay police for not having a label 2 days after discovering u might like someone of the same gender.
i spent years. YEARS. figuring out my identity and was never actually upset when i realized i was wrong. i went from a genderfluid lesbian to a gay aroace trans man. I WAS WRONG! ABOUT A LOT OF IT!! and labels came and went. id pick one up and drop another and keep moving. id collect many labels, past double digits. AT LEAST 50 at one point. but i was content the whole time. bc i knew id be wrong. and id accepted that.
id also accepted that I Would Change. i would change! my gender would change, my sexuality would change, LITERALLY EVERYTHING CHANGES!! maybe when i identified as a lesbian i truly was attracted to women, but im no longer attracted to women in that way. but do i care? no.
i even remember that when i was younger i told myself "id probably never be fully a man. i doubt i would ever go that far" and now here i am. binary trans man who wants hormones and surgeries.
i was wrong! i was wrong i was wrong i was wrong! AND THATS FUCKIN OKAY!!
so go out there and be wrong about ur identity. watch it shift and move and test shit out. spend years discovering urself and ur ins and outs but dont stress. u will probably be wrong, and thats okay. ur identity may change and suddenly go way into the opposite direction. stop asking for permission to try new things!! u will be wrong at some point or another and thats fine!!! go out there and be urself!!! and if u dont know wut that is, then go out there and find it (if u really want to)

there's this attitude and like, idea about nonbinary that it's like. only something that exists within the binary, something in-between. and there's this specific image of what nonbinary is, as like. only people who use they/them pronouns (or they/them alongside he or she) and fit this are nonbinary. but it's not just that. like nonbinary includes that but also everything outside of that, as long as it's not one of the binary genders. all it means is you're not binary.
i think the "not australian" point is a really good way of presenting it. it's not a specific thing at all. if you say "nonbinary" you're just saying your gender isn't of the binary. youre not a Man or Woman (or not Exclusively a man or woman, or not Really a man or woman, or like, all of that)
it's just a word that contains these specific things, it's an umbrella term. and it's useful especially for people who don't have specific exact terms for their gender, and people who dont really want to explain it, and people who dont really feel like they need a specific label.
but it in itself is the same as like. the word "transgender." transgender isn't a gender either, it's a descriptor for someones' gender. it also includes nonbinary genders, but if someone says they're "transgender," that's not a specific label either. are they a trans man? a trans woman? yk? or like if someone says they're LGBT or queer. same thing. not a specific label.
i totally understand when ppl dont want to be like. labelled something exactly but nonbinary is more like the term 'LGBT' than "man" or "woman".
and nonbinary isn't like, an exclusive term either. i'm a nonbinary trans woman. i can be all three, it's a much more effective communication tool to say "i'm a nonbinary trans woman" than to say "i'm a trans woman, but i don't really necessarily identify as a woman, especially not the patriarchal idea of a woman. my womanhood is something personal to me, and if i had to pick an exact label, i would probably say i'm an 'agender trans woman,' but i don't, mostly because no one really gets what the fuck that means, and i dont know how to explain it myself."
sorry if this is much i just have feelings about the word nonbinary. like it's Fine if you don't wanna use it. you do you. i just feel like the feelings about the word are misguided by the popular conception of 'nonbinary' via the simplification of it. and that Sucks because it's a nice, broad term which can describe any experience in a concise way and brings together such a disparate and massive experience into one, huge community of people, who while they all differ in their own ways, share the common thread of. like. existing outside the binary of western gender.
honestly i think the biggest perpetrators of 'nonbinary is a third gender' on here are people who refuse the concept. 'im not male or female or nonbinary, im a fourth thing' okay, so as long as that thing isn't 'male' or 'female', you're nonbinary. nonbinary isn't a gender in itself, it's literally just a descriptor for any gender other than male or female. 'yeah well im not agender either' okay but again as long as you're not male or female then nonbinary, as a descriptor of whatever your gender actually is, is valid. it's literally just saying 'you are neither male or female' and nothing else. every single gender other than those two is nonbinary. it isn't a gender any more than 'not australian' is a nationality. the concept is an entirely necessary one and, again, is literally just a negation of the western gender binary system. if you're anything other than the two genders of that system, you're not on that system. you're not on the western gender binary. you're non-binary.

ok tangentially related to the post you just made and i don’t want to write an essay in the tags but that’s what’s always bothered me abojt the push to define lesbians as “nonmen loving nonmen” ? like it’s not exactly the same because it’s not sex-based like tme/tma/amab/afab etc but it just feels like an attempt to create the gender binary 2.0 and also feels very similar to the people who consider nonbinary people to be either “women lite” or just men depending on their perception of them . and it just leaves out complex/less definable gender/sexuality identities entirely. some of these things aren’t as easily definable as “men vs nonmen”
NO YEAH like. exactly it's so frustrating like we created the word nonbinary to have a word for "ppl who dont identify as (entirely/only) male or female" and for like. teenagers online to turn around and go "actually nonbinary people are women when it's convenient for me unless theyre too masculine in which case theyre men" is like. INSANE like it feels like ppl dont actually Understand what being nonbinary is about & just reinvented the gender binary
also i knowwwww for a fact that as a non passing trans man half the ppl who use that kind of terminology would consider me a nonman when they first see me bc i dont pass and would probably continue thinking of me that way even after finding out i Am A Man. but when i start t and become an Evil Mean Scary Man i'll be no longer allowed in "women and afab" spaces bc i'll be too masculine. it's such bullshit -_-

i think it's so so so funny that my main transmasc hc character literally Is The Way He Is bc he's amab. like hiei's one of approx 3 characters ever whose asab is actually relevant and having it otherwise is impossible in the text. ridiculous.
is what i thought, but it's actually wayy way more complicated than i previously gave it credit for!! plus there's a LOT more queercoding than i first thought. lemme explain:
[tw: eugenics, fascism, queerphobia, self harm, suicide mentions]
[yu yu hakusho spoilers/meant for ppl who've seen yyh but probably understandable to ppl who haven't]
[ft too many uses of the word queercoded and my mushy feelings about hiei's arc and the queer experience]
2025 EDIT: while i still think hiei is transcoded i don't like this post anymore. it's poorly written (sometimes to problematic extents) and i think there's a lot of big topics and points i fumbled here (i don't think i handled the eugenics stuff elegantly). for now i'm just gonna put a "shit sucks" warning. and also say that hiei's experiences are extremely intersexcoded in ways i completely overlooked originally, to the point of making this post weird and stupid in hindsight. like the mental gymnastics i was doing around that really obvious blindspot are grotesque. hiei getting executed for having the wrong (male) sex characteristics as a baby in a species presumed to be single sex (which ofc isn't bc hiei exists) is like. again extremely intersex. possibly the most intersex ive ever seen a character subtextually be. and the like,, quirky tour guide tone i struck with agab and asab etc is kind of disgusting to me in hindsight. anyway this post blows he's an intersex guy for sure and also an intersex trans guy to me specifically and i might write another better post on that someday bc i haven't seen anyone talk about it but for now that's all ok bye
hiei is literally thrown out of his home as a baby for being born male and that's just INCREDIBLY queercoded on its own, but specifically a lot of this is presented with the fact that he's a fire demon. this could just be a trait he got from his father, or it could be tied to the ice maiden species. i think it's a stretch to say gender/sex present the same across all demonkind, much less that it resembles our own. frankly, binary sexual classification doesn't really work for a lot of species (and it really doesn't work for humans anyway, because intersex people exist). his maleness is associated with it, and this creates a potential sexual dichotomy that, in this species, females present with ice powers and males present with fire powers. (i understand this has a very goofy "girls are cats boy are dogs" energy to it but let's roll with it for now). so hiei could have been born with what humans would consider female sex characteristics, but the ice maidens would look at him and go "oh he's on fire get this little man outta here". (this could also be where the idea that he'll destroy them comes from, if all males are, y'know, melty).
some of my initial thought process on this came about because i figured "oh if they reproduce asexually they've probably got all xx chromosomes, and that's how they only have xy kids when the parent has sex with someone outside the village", but even if that's the case (assuming chromosomes work the same for demons), there's still a ~50/50 chance hiei ended up with xx chromosomes anyway. perhaps fire is considered the primary sex characteristic that determines one's asab in the same way genitalia is for humans. so, to a human audience, we'd see his traits and go "oh he's trans", which i think counts for biological coding.
the ice maiden society is also incredibly restrictive in terms of gender and sexuality. they consist entirely of (ambiguously determined, as discussed above) women who reproduce asexually. one is not allowed to leave the bounds of this society, nor perform sexual taboos, such as sleeping with outsiders. hiei was only born because hina acted outside of the strict sexual norms of this society. people's queerness is sometimes chocked up to "poor parenting" (often based in sexual/gender/religious/otherwise traditional nonconformity) of parents. and even though hina loved her son and didn't want to see him, y'know, thrown off a floating island, the society as a whole still deemed him an outsider and a problem to be eliminated and left him for dead for the greater purity/"protection" of the culture. it's serving fascist eugenics tbh. (and hiei doesn't destroy their culture like they and he had expected, subverting their expectations of him and his "kind", though the idea that that subversion matters more than preventing further harm is one I'd disagree with. the choice to cut them out of his life entirely to me is somewhat more justifiable to me given a familial view over a community/cultural one, but i digress). regardless, this is reminiscent of societal marginalization in general, but especially categories that can show up in isolation in families (i.e. queerness, neurodivergency, disability, etc) in a way that other things (i.e. race, religious affiliation, etc) generally don't, and can thus be painted as rooting out abnormalities or defects in individual, bloodless, mundane cases (as opposed to the broader elimination that we associate with genocide)
there's also yukina, who left to find hiei, and who hates the ice maidens (presumably at least partially because she knows what happened to him). think of this as them trying to find each other after familial fallout.
this is all to say that if we view maleness/fire demonness as an equivalent to genderqueerness in the ice maiden society, hiei's story maps onto queer experiences incredibly well. so he's got that cultural/queer experience coding too.
we also see hiei topless all the time (he's actually incapable of keeping his chest covered. when he doesn't take it off it burns off or whatever like he can't fight covered up. can't even make it through the intro with it covered. whore behavior <3). "but he's got male presenting pecs, so he's amab," you might say. but he is (key to his character and returning home) well acquainted with a plastic surgeon. he literally has a body modification done as part of his backstory (specifically one he had to tell this story to to receive treatment!!!). transcoded asf. and frankly him being topless all the time is very reminiscent of lots of transmasc ppl who've just gotten top surgery. like they paid too much not to show it off. (this was actually the first thing that made me go "omg,, he's trans lmao. that surgeon guy totally gave him a 2 for 1 deal" and then it just. kept piling up. he's also quite short (4'10") and has a relatively high voice (definitely masc, but in a very in-the-throat way that a lot of afab ppl use), but neither of those are that compelling).
he also has a somewhat more flexible view of his body than the others, getting drastic invasive surgery, beating his arm when it disobeyed him(????? ok babe), and willingly sacrificing parts of it to learn fighting techniques (specifically a fire technique, so more gender stuff). this could be tied to genderqueer people's greater willingness/need to change their bodies, or potentially harmful practices (such as improper binding) to alleviate dysphoria.
queerness is featured a few times in the series and implied in others. we encounter a canon transfem demon named miyuki during the yukina rescue arc. karasu and itsuki are both distinctly mlm demons. hiei even acknowledges this in the eng dub, calling itsuki "lover boy" when he's doing his whole "omg sensui,, i want him to be evil so bad he's so hot" speech. the derision in this case seems to come more from hiei's dislike of him/the situation than disgust at itsuki's queerness (or else he could have just called him disgusting or perverse or whatever). kurama also makes a joke near the end of the series implying hiei is interested in him, which hiei refutes by clarifying his intentions, rather than saying smth like "ew nasty I don't swing that way", which is more standard in anime. I'm gonna gesture wildly to mukuro but we'll skip her for now. all this is to say that the only characters we see exhibiting signs of queerness are demons (other than the people we see atsuko hang with for a single shot). this is almost certainly a case of villainous queercoding (a detriment to the series that does rustle my feathers a good bit. the treatment of miyuki in particular makes my blood boil), but we could also read this as demonkind having different understandings of gender and sexuality in general. perhaps the reason we see this queerness in demons is more because the way their bodies work, the ways they present, and the ways they're attracted to others, to us, look queer.
hiei, throughout his backstory, is consistently demonized by the people around him (some of which is deserved bc he keeps killing people, but some isn't, like the thrown-as-an-infant-off-a-cliff thing). and while his arc throughout the show is about him becoming more able to let people into his life, there's always a distance there. he almost always pushes them away. he's always been treated like a monster, so that's all he tries to be, and it's part of his justification for further distance (i.e. using his criminal status as a reason not to "burden" yukina with the knowledge that they're related). for a lot of queer people (especially before the internet and in places without queer spaces like gay bars), you have no way of meeting people you can trust won't hate you for being queer (even queer spaces have transphobes or nb-exclusionists, etc), so you harden yourself and let very few people in. his trauma reads like a lot of queer ones, especially older american ones. this arc culminates with his relationship with mukuro, and his decision to stay with her indefinitely.
firstly, mukuro's referred to as a king and with he/him pronouns by the cast for a while, before it's revealed that she was hiding her true identity as a woman, and the characters' references to her switch to feminine ones. already tripping wires there. and the first time we learn this about her is when mukuro sees hiei's (queercoded) past and goes "you're just like me" and sheds her clothes (mukuro's backstory doesn't feel that queer to me, but she did have to run away from abuse and dehumanization, potentially for her body/the way she was born as well, so it's not insignificant). hiei's unconscious in one of those green anime healing tubes, but their shared nudity (and thus vulnerability) has a very intimate vibe to it. these fundamentally tightly guarded characters are letting each other in a bit in this way, and that backstory/vulnerability being connected with their bodies/genders, especially when you consider all the other queercoding surrounding them, feels very much like queer solidarity. meeting strangers who have been disowned for birth circumstances and immediately sharing your deepest secrets with each other because you feel some deep similarity to them and bonding over that experience (especially when it relates to asab/agab roles) in a way outsiders can't breach is very queer. (note that hiei didn't want mukuro to know his backstory, but was effectively outed, and she came out in kind). and eventually hiei helps her work through that trauma, and she gives him purpose and a home. a found family with a better fit, something more suited to him, than the main cast (as much as I want them to mesh perfectly).
i think part of why hiei is suicidal in the beginning of three kings is because of that distance and isolation. he'd fulfilled his mission of meeting yukina, but resolved not to tell her of their relation. he feels he can't tell her this big secret of his that might change how she views him, or views her home. it's just before the fight where he tries to die that his surgeon's condition that he could never tell her is revealed. the only thing allowing them to meet is keeping that secret, and the bodily change is what causes it. and he says he wouldn't want to tell her anyway. so he has nowhere to go. he doesn't want to destroy humanity anymore (as evidenced by his assistance in the previous arc and destruction of the chapter black tape), he can't get closer to his home or his sister, and there's still that distance between him and everyone else. (in case it needs to be said, all of this is crazy bonkers queercoded). but in the end, after he and mukuro grow together and bond, he tells kurama to tell yukina her brother's dead, to give up hope, to cut himself off permanently. kurama says he won't, because he believes that hiei will return and tell her they're related someday. and hiei begrudgingly agrees. someday he will tell her. when he's ready, and when he feels safe enough to. and from that change in the beginning and end of the arc, we know he's found that safety in mukuro, and may finally begin to really pursue his own happiness and authenticity. because he met someone like him, he now has hope. he can be loved and he can be enough, and he can look forward to it.
so, to sum up, hiei:
1. was disowned as a child for being the wrong/unexpected gender/sex in an incredibly homogenous society (in which it is ambiguous how they classify sex/gender)
2. has a medical and unusually personal history with a magical plastic surgeon and is topless all the time
3. reacts neutrally/without notice to other characters' queerness (when he is rude, it's for other reasons)
4. is a demon, the only group shown to exhibit canon queerness
5. forms a very deep bond with someone over their shared isolating (queercoded) experiences (with persistent body imagery and a social transition on mukuro's part)
basically, he's transcoded <3

i agree with you that cisgay zuko is probably the more accurate interpretation of the text, though i think there is a possible defense for trans zuko that might even add more depth to his arc as a gay man(a bit of a reach and def not what most ppl are thinking when they hc zuko as trans but i’m thinking it so) the fire nation glorifies binary roles, especially binary masculine roles. 1/?
there are such societies where being trans is accepted, but only binary trans ppl bc of the importance of social roles (and being gay is not bc masculine and feminine social roles are understood to be heterosexual (men are men partly bc they are attracted to women and vice versa) but not necessarily as long as they are adhered to one can switch between them but not between or have traits of both (ie feminine men or masculine women)). 2/?
so basically bc social roles are important sexism and homophobia still exist, and trans ppl can exist but must be binary and heterosexual bc of the roles/hierarchy, which are viewed as foundational to the function of society. so if zuko were to come out as trans at a young age, especially a trans man (which would be more valued bc of the value placed on masculinity) then his ability to live as a man in the fire nation is inherently dependent on a) his ability to embody binary masculinity, 3/?
and b) him liking women bc heterosexuality is what is accepted. him repressing any natural “femininity” and distancing himself from it (“ew girls”) is part and parcel with his binary fire nation understanding of what a man is, his acceptance in society/fear that he may not be allowed to live as a man if he doesn’t occupy the role properly, and his attempt to be a straight man (bc femininity belongs to women, which binary men are attracted to but not the same as in fire nation society, 4/?
as well as his view that masculinity is more valuable) (but also his inherent gayness coming out through his natural repressed distance from girls but not femininity). him dating mai is a further attempt to fulfill this social role alongside proving that he is not gay (really the two are intertwined, for him to occupy the social role of “man” in the FN one of the things among repressing femininity is also being “straight” bc gender and straightness are intertwined in FN) meeting aang is an 5/?
awakening for him bc aang is from a culture that doesn’t have binaries, and meeting sokka is as well bc sokka is bi but also still seen as a man and from an egalitarian culture where masculinity and femininity are equal. then his journey of self-acceptance embodies both accepting the fact that he’s gay and widening his understanding of what manhood is, that he can be a man without having to embody the patriarchal, heterosexual ideal of one, learning that binaries (of gender roles and 6/?
man/woman heterosexuality) are bad, masculinity is not inherently more valuable and hierarchy (rooted in binary) is bad, and so he can accept both his masculinity and femininity (which is tied to his gay arc) while still accepting that he is a man (and that gender is ultimately fake but it impacts his reality so he can occupy 8/?
the role he chooses to see fit in whatever way he wants to including being gay lol). idk if this makes sense but yeah, just wanted to present a possible analytical argument for trans zuko :) and ik this was pretty rambly but if you want any more expansion or clarification lmk!!! 9/9
okay first of all.

second of all i would like to know which real life society works like the one you, anon, described? because i haven’t heard of one in my entire life. in fact, it sounds very segregated to me and i am (for the 100th time) a believer in the intersectional theory; all types of oppression, its origins and practical purposes are intertwined, and you can’t entirely have one without the other in a collective or realistic society. saying that you can have homophobia and misogyny without transphobia especially in a nation where imperialism is glorified sounds kind of. like radical feminism. or in another word, terfs, who believe that all different kinds of oppresion exist entirely separate from each other, which makes them fail to see the bigger picture & often leads to them subscribing to ideas that are dangerous and/or harmful to (mostly) trans women and ppl of color. it’s important to understand the ideology that one is against (assuming u Are against radical feminism??) as well as the ideology one personally holds. anyway #sorry but. just so you know all of the Implications of this.
and third of all, what i’m realizing lately is that trans zuko vs cisgay zuko arguments are just the same reasoning in different wordings, and mainly (not all) what makes cisgay zuko more plausible is simply... context.
the entire atla fandom is constantly missing a very important part of the fire nation’s systematic homophobia: its ties to the fire nation’s imperialism. it doesn’t matter if it was sozin or not who outlawed homosexuality in the fn, but it does make a lot of sense taking into account that (there had to be a pre-existing prejudice among the population for that to work out, but that’s for another day) the fn is about to become a massive military machine for a world wide war, which means they are going to need to breed. homophobia has its own utility in the fn’s imperialism by helping to ensure that as many people as possible have babies. and this is also part of why gender roles matter so much; it's not just that homosexuality is outlawed, but that any deviation from a heterosexual nuclear family structure is greatly frowned-upon.
this doesn’t work if zuko were trans and had to have kids with mai, for example. why would they force him into a heterosexual cage if it’s not to make an heir and a soldier? it makes absolutely no sense knowing what we know about the fn’s politics (and using common sense, which i understand is not a hobby of many ppl in this fandom alas).
and yes, the fire nation glorifies traditionally masculine roles and characteristics, but you need to ask yourself why. is it because they glorify their imperialism and war and military? is it because traditionally masculine roles embody these characteristics of imperialism, war, and military, considerably more than traditionally feminine ones? why does this society work the way it does? why is heterosexuality a must in the fire nation? what is the practical purpose of this prejudice, this rule, this norm, according to other politics and values of this society?
the entire part 4 of this thing about how zuko’s transness and homosexuality could be related doesn’t make a lot of sense to me and i think it’s too much of a reach. there are certainly binary trans people, especially trans men, who are caught up in gender roles and end up reinforcing transphobic and even racist ideas due to it (we're on tumblr; we've all seen this & discourse around it). but the thing is, i really can't see that happening in a society that accepts trans people enough for zuko to transition at such a young age? it just doesn't make sense that zuko would internalize those transphobic ideas if everyone were fully supportive of his transition (which. i assume they were as again, he would've been so young. most people, even people who are relatively progressive when it comes to trans people, wouldn't allow that).
but regarding your part 5, it’s like. you are so close to getting it. zuko feels he needs to fill the role of the man desperately, yes!! because he was born a man and identifies as a man, but has some traditionally feminine qualities that are explicitly frowned upon in the militaristic society he was raised in. he’s gay.
you mention that meeting aang and sokka, to an extent, would make zuko open his mind to the different layers of masculinity and that he doesn’t have to be this mold of patriarchal masculinity, because aang is from a culture that doesn’t have binaries and sokka is from an egalitarian culture, is that it? well.
1) zuko can do that without being trans; in fact he does this canonically, and it also makes more sense that way, because this one of the reasons we assume he’s gay. i already covered this a thousand times before, it’s not a new argument, see my third of all etc etc.
2) (and this made me very ughhnghrrhh) the part about aang’s and sokka’s upbringings having no binary system/being egalitarian is just... not true lmao.
the air temples were segregated by gender, if you recall, and while i doubt they had any trouble with homosexuality or trans ppl, they definitely had some concept of gender binary in their everyday lives. in fact, i think the air nomads is more similar to the society with binaries but no in-betweens that you mentioned, if less strict and in a different fashion, probably not tainted by the looming spectres of imperialism and militarism and probably the only reason why this works; they are spiritual people, and aren’t obsessed with breeding even more monks. however they probably had no idea what to do with a nonbinary person, for example, and i don’t think aang was the exeption of this rule. he’s very gnc by our standards, but he still identifies as a boy, and that’s kind of relevant to the whole ember island players situation. i could make an entire post talking about this alone but i digress.
the southern water tribe... sigh. massive sigh. MASSIVE SIGH okay. the swt being an egalitarian society is just untrue. this is crucial to sokka’s arc, because he is not the one sexist exception of his tribe, or the black sheep, or whatever. sexism and its adjacent prejudices are all socialization — sokka was not born thinking girls were only useful to sew and cook and men were only useful to fight and hunt. he learned this from some external source. and it’s not difficult to see where he got it either; all those grown women were definitely more suited to fight than sokka was when zuko’s ship crashed their tribe, but sokka, at fifteen, was still the only soldier standing. this is heartbreaking, and it tells you something about the society they live in; you just have to pay attention. the only difference (and perhaps. similarity?) with the fire nation is that their gender norms and such seem to be a lot less specific and rigid (waterbending women did fight when hama was taken for example), and the specifics and rigidness there might exist are probably a consequence of the neo/colonization they suffered both from the fn and the northern water tribe (which is still a monarchy where the swt is more of a democratic-esque society By The Way; even more intersectionalism!!). but again i digress.
this part of anon’s argument bothered me personally a lot, because i think that if you are going to try and craft an argument for a headcanon with evidence and/or plausibility directly from the text, you might as well get your facts right. otherwise it just seems very inconsistent. but anyways!
now that the breaking down of this reach of an argument is done i wanted to say that like. us here on sokkagatekeeper dot tumblr dot com are ciszuko truthers and that’s not going to change because we enjoy critical analysis of not only characters but the societies and contexts they live in, as realistically as possible when talking about fiction. other people prefer to suspend their belief a little more to headcanon x as trans or x as gay or x as neurodivergent or whatever, which is objectively wrong, meaning the literal quality of it being incorrect, but not necessarily morally wrong, which tumblr tends to confuse all the damn time. being wrong in fandom is not usually that deep, and you don’t even need to acknowledge that you are wrong or prove that you are right to us personally because we aren’t looking for that. this is our reading of the text, which we've arrived at through analysis, and which we think is compelling and often fun to make jokes about. you're allowed to have a different interpretation. we have many mutuals who hc zuko as trans, and we're not like. on the verge of unfollowing them for it.
this was an interesting ask to receive and analyze and we’ve been hoping someone coherent would start a debate with us on this subject, because honestly (despite what we said in the last paragraph lol) it does annoy me when people are just. wrong about things and i can't find a coherent argument anywhere. i really do love it when people disagree with me and are still able to make points; i love being able to debate and possibly learn from it. like, we were harsh about this, but it was nice to have an ask about this that was thoughtful.
i still believe that if you are happy thinking zuko could be trans/his journey reflects that/whatever else then that’s fine. not everything needs to have a canonical justification for you to have fun. that is not the case with us, because canon is literally so good, but we are different ppl with different tastes. and we enjoy making fun of zuko for being cis more than we enjoy stretching canon to make trans zuko work. also i don’t want you ppl to go around thinking or saying this was a cis person talking okay nour they them only. okay thanks byeeee

these r pretty common here but i love transmasc mike and vyvyan (i think mike would be more like stealth binary trans), transfemme genderfluid rick (tho transmasc rick is also fun), neil being like. plantgender/otherkin nonbinary and the secret fifth roommate being a complete agender enigma with no discernible agab are fun.
i tend to enjoy depictions that r more period + character/voice accurate though so i don't think they would use that exact terminology for it. but basically none of these bozos r cis
i love the idea of Vyv doing diyhrt and possibly his own top surgery (and maybe bottom surgery but he'd probably put like. dynamite in his penis or some shit so maybe he shouldn't be trusted w that kind of power lmao)
i feel like these r all pretty typical stuff other ppl have already said tho, so there's more original (and unhinged) stuff under the read more im so sorry lmao
uhmmmm ok more original stuff uhh i think rick has a brat taming kink/thing where he acts super annoying bc he subconsciously wants to get smacked around bc of some psychological shit about being a pampered upper middle class only child who nobody likes lol. maybe its actually a deep seated self loathing. he thought once he got to university ppl would like him and he'd become super popular, but it turns out he really is just annoying. its not that his peers from childhood were ignorant to his super deep intellectual ideas or whatever lol. i dunno im not a psychologist.
also i think he is both intimidated by and attracted to vyv (not projecting At All)
vyvyan grew up poor without a father figure (that we know of) and with a spiteful alcoholic mother so seeing rick take his parents + other privileges for granted makes him want to kick his ass. i love the idea that vyv and mike r childhood friends also, and mike sort of Was like a father in some ways despite being (presumably?) the same age as vyv. it explains why he’s the only flatmate vyv doesn’t physically hurt and makes it kinda cute when he calls him michael. 2 me
also i think vyv and rick have autism but their specific brands of autism clash with each other (one needs quiet, the other needs constant noise,, that sort of thing) and it drives them both crazy
and i think all 4 of them have some form of ADHD or other disorder that effects executive function bc that's the only way i can see them letting the house get that dirty 💀💀💀
also i think vyv absolutely gets off on humiliating rick but i don’t think he even realizes he’s getting off on it if u know what i mean (he'd never admit it to himself, bc that's 'girly' and gay!!!). like with the virgin sign (and presumably making him wear a t-shirt later too), its meant as typical vyv torment but also um. that whole incident was just gay sex. what do you mean you two shook the bed so hard it fell thru the ceiling um hello???
also i think all four flatmates of some flavor of gay/bi but have comphet/pretend to like girls way more than they rlly do. their masculinity (and by extension heterosexuality) is a performance. especially mike’s. tho tbf everything about mike is a performance. the cool person persona is fake as hell. obvs some of it is related to the implication that he’s somewhat involved in shady dealings (where tf did he get that gun, why was he the one to suggest robbing the bank, he literally tried to sell a nuke, paying off the dean of the college etc). And you know what? I'm starting to suspect Michael “Mike” The Cool Person isn't even his real name.
(also i think the fakeness of his cool guy persona is super interesting from a trans perspective)
neil is treated as the overworked unappreciated housewife/mother, while mikes the father everyone seeks the approval of, with vyv being the violent brother and rick being the socially conscious sister whose pigtails he tugs on (the bart and lisa of the flat lol) they’re basically the Nuclear Family in the form of 4 university students which i guess isn’t even headcanons anymore im just stating the actual intent of the show but im in too deep now and the gender politics of the young ones is interesting 2 me. despite featuring very few women characters i think lise mayer gave the scripts some Sauce.
neil consistently is forced into the traditional/stereotypical role of a woman in a lot of ways (including vyv oggling him in ricks dress) and as a result of this treatment (as well as probably an actual case of major depressive disorder imo) he repeatedly attempts suicide and/or threatens to do so as a cry for help. some of his attempts are so poorly executed it rlly does seem more like an ignored cry for help.
he's passive aggressive as hell, believes ridiculous stuff causes cancer and absolutely would fall for a pyramid scheme. just like a real mum! (feels so weird to type mum when you're american 😭 i feel like those ppl in 2012 who were like weebs for britain. teaboos💀)
neil to me is that one thing moms/mums sometimes do where they r all "omg I'm the only person who does anything in this house" while doing dishes and when u ask if they want help they say no but r like. sighing and sad about it. like perhaps they would like help but don't want to admit it or realize they could have asked this whole time but didn't and now feel embarrassed or ashamed by not realizing this sooner (not that the other guys would ever willingly help with cleaning). honestly i think neil likes wallowing in misery a little. idk
the line where he says he might as well be their mums and they reply that they at least *like* their mums, i don't buy that shit. Vyv has a strained relationship w his at best and you cannot convince me rick doesn't yell at his mum constantly. and mike for all we know could've been created in a government lab for all we know about his family+upbringing. i think they likely all love their mothers but i don't think they 'like' or respect them, and for this, neil really is the mum of the group no matter what the other 3 say >:3
there's probably more gender role stuff a way smarter and more qualified person could go into but that's all i have on that lol
ok back to regularly scheduled horny rivyan psychoanalysis
i think vyvyan's desire to become a doctor is partially rooted in his enjoyment of torturing small rodents (ie. SPG), and to him people are like. Big Rodents. and part of why he targets rick so often is because he reminds him of one (he is my precious rat boy). I've said this before somewhere but rick is like a prey animal to me.
uhmmm also i think if vyv came out as trans to rick he'd be super ignorant but outwardly go “oh yea transsexuality is so anarchic, right on! I dabble in a bit of transvesticism myself…” but he just really really really wants 2 know whats in vyvs pants 😭
and just wait until he does some reading and finds out about tdick and bottom surgery options. he'd probably keep avoiding eye contact but doing his gay little coquette shimmy every time they r in the same room and try to """subtly""" bring it up to him when he thinks mike and neil aren't listening lol
like “gulps is that your p-p-p-p-pussy vyvyan….” behavior.
i think some of vyv's aggression towards rick is just like. why dont i have a penis right now. i need 2 jackhammer this obnoxious twink somehow (oh no i'm projecting onto vyvyan i need to stop before this gets out of hand)
uh ok ok this isn't a headcanon but I'm obsessed with that one scene in Flood where they r all holding down neil to kill and eat him and he asks for a last cigarette and mike gets one for himself and rick instinctively lights it for him. Also in Cash when Mike and Vyv use Rick as a sofa um anyways um uhhh vyv phalloplasty/penis star tattoos/piercings goodnight everypony
what’re your favourite the young ones headcanons ? i need moreeeee

One Punch Man ship reviews bc I’m bored
WARNING: BIG ONE PUNCH MAN WEBCOMIC AND MANGA SPOILERS
GenoSai: do I even have to say it?? They compliment each other so well and are already besties. They make me so happy and I love their love. Genos literally came into Saitama’s life and brought so much new life and excitement when Saitama thought he’d never get any. Genos gives him love and appreciation all the time and never abandons him. Saitama isn’t connected to his feelings, but he cares about Genos and would do just about anything for him, to keep him safe. Genos constantly teases Saitama and Saitama grumbles and takes it with some banter, Genos is super emotional and Saitama does his best to comfort him, they fucking love shopping together and just hanging out period, they talk about the dumbest shit and somehow they still understand each other with the one brain cell they both share. It takes Genos forever to realize his feelings are deeper and Saitama has to be TOLD by their friends that he should fucking realize his feelings already. Just...I could keep going but I’ll stop! 2718873737839439/10 (let’s not talk about the age gap btw, 6 years isn’t bad and Genos is a legal adult.)
FubuSai: the stereotypical straight ship ppl gravitate to. Eh. I can see it, but at the same time I feel like they don’t completely compliment each other. Are they a hot couple? Duh. But I feel like their pride and communication issues would get in the way. 4/10
TatsuSai: hnghhhh. Someone mentioned this before, can’t remember who, but Saitama literally thinks she’s a child in canon. So that just....makes it gross. Same problems as FubuSai but worse. I’d rather see them as hesitant friends w a weird bond. 0/10
SonSai/SonicSai/idk the ship name: eh, toxic. Cant see them getting past communication issues and pride, again. Plus Sonic wants to kill his ass. Also, I just feel no romantic tension?? Even in fanfic it just falls flat for me. 3/10
MumenSai: a favorite!! Wish I saw it more, it’s very cute. Mumen is so kind and would absolutely be there to help him w self esteem and just help him be a better person period. And Saitama would have a cute little kind guy to tease and open up to. I could maybe see Mumen’s kindness getting on Saitama’s nerves when he’s in a bad mood bc Mumen almost never snaps and Saitama feels shittier, or maybe Mumen being mad at Saitama for being kinda lazy at home while Mumen is working his ass off and he’s like babe I just got home, please stop playing the fucking game and pay attention to me I have a concussion again. Prob too nitpicky on this one, heh, but 8.4/10
Genos x Sonic: wtf? As a crack ship, sure. That’s hilarious. But as a serious ship, 1.3/10 bc I could MAYBE see them bond over their love of my chemical romance or sum.
Anyone x Puri: -128382839287473828739219833468282/10. Fuck Puri.
TatsuKing: eh. Indifferent on this one too. I can see them getting along and Tatsu being the mean but supportive gf in public, but a sweet gf in private. King could be like her calm oasis of video games and sweet blonde shy bf. I sway more towards ace/aro King and queer non binary Tatsu, but this is still good. 6/10
FubuPsy/Fubuki x Psykos/idk: hell yeah!! This series NEEDS more wlw ships, both for me to project onto and to cry over. Prob my fav Fubuki ship, cuz they’ve known each other since they were young and had a tenuous friendship. I didn’t use to ship it until I saw that scene in the wc after the MA arc (u know the one) but here we are. They’re big personalities so any interaction is bound to be chaotic at first, but I really think they’d work. Pride put to the side, Psykos could be someone for Fubuki to finally rely on other than the Blizzard Bunch, someone to confide in, a badass partner to fight monsters with, talk about nothing for hours with, be a super fashionable #girlboss couple with, and someone who would really see her for who she is-especially w Psykos knowledge of her from the past. Hell, Psykos might even know her better than Tatsumaki. Fubuki could be an anchor to her like she currently is in the wc, providing a quiet comfort and making her open up little by little. Would prob be toxic at first bc of the MA arc and their desire for power, but is a very good ship I think. 9/10
Speedal/Sonic x Mumen: an old fav! Sonic would have a hard time not hating Mumen at first bc he’s the picture definition of a hero, sum he hates. But hanging out with him would show him Mumen is a GOOD guy genuinely and he’d be like ohhhh shit I’m in love w this man. Mumen would thoroughly appreciate someone to make him live a little, break some rules and stand up to ppl when they talk over him. He’d DEFINITELY be upset when finding out Sonic is an assassin, but would prob be conflicted bc he knows Sonic is a good person despite that. Would prob make Sonic give up on killing for them to be together. Sucks bc of the assassin thing and bc they haven’t met in canon! So we’re not sure how they’d interact with each other, sigh. 7.4/10
Okamaitachi x Bushidrill: a very underrated ship! To be clear, I headcanon Kama as a trans woman and so does most of the fandom. Anyway, very sweet and already built as a friendship bc of their partnership under Atomic Samurai. I can’t remember who writes fic and makes art of them on tumblr but AAAAA it’s so good! Very sweet. Basically depicted Bushi as a nervous himbo who’s honest about his feelings but scared to say them and Kama as a sweet lady who’s crazy about Bushi. Very sweet. Want more of them!! 6.1/10
OneZon/Zombieman x One Shotter: never even thought of the ship till I saw @megidolan art work! Very wholesome, and from what little we know of Shotter we know he’s a sort of nervous yet strong willed guy, and Zombieman would totally help him calm down bc he’s so chill. I could see them sharing cigarettes and talking shit on heroes while cuddling u know? 7/10 only because I don’t see enough of it but very good concept.
Mumarou/Mumen x Garou: a lot of ppl are gonna hate me for this but....I don’t like it. I’ve tried! I just—idk. I’ve read so many good fics about them that make me like it a bit, but the concept is just eh. I think their relationship is, in most reps, really cliche angsty stuff. I wish I could elaborate I just...gah! Basically, there’s better ships for the both of them imo. Sorry!! 4.3/10
Sonic x Flashy/SonFlash: yes!! Prob my fav Sonic ship. They have soooo much tension, it’s almost worse than Genos’ tension w Saitama. Flashy LITERALLY poisoned Sonic so that he wouldn’t be forced to kill him at the ninja graduation. He cares. They’ll never say it out loud, but they care. They have someone who understands what they went through in each other and someone they’re both so similar to, yet so different from. Sonic is more vocal about his expressions and let’s people know it while Flashy often keeps things to himself, they could really influence the other to be more this or that. I could see a lot of comfort with these two, and not much is needed for relationship development; they already have so much unspoken between them after meeting for the first time in years. Love it. Wish I saw it more! 10/11
KingSai: wonderful! Out of the few ppl Saitama is close to, def my second fav pick for a ship for him. There’s a post saying how Saitama doesn’t cut King off when he’s going on rants about games and stuff bc he’s talking TO Saitama, not at him like Genos tends to do on accident. They’re already great buddies! Saitama could find a shy gamer man who he can talk to about manga and stuff and also a passionate bf who could break out of his shell w Saitama and be himself with no lies. King can have someone to protect him, duh, someone who finally understands his weird sense of humor, and someone to shower him in the love and kindness he deserves when Saitama is in the mood to be all out like that w his affections. Plus he’s Saitama’s anchor and brings him back down when he’s super anxious and depressed and tells him what’s up that he needs to fix without sugarcoating it. Would def have a bunch of inside jokes and go on dates that are just staying inside playing video games all night. Domestic af. 10/10
Fubuki x Mizuki: my first wlw Fubuki ship! Hard to find but very good. Mizuki is this big ball of kindness, energy, and raw power that would make Fubuki go ‘Ohhhhhhh, big pretty lady make brain go brrr.’ I could see Mizuki grounding Fubuki when she’s in over her head, giving her random gifts bc she saw sum and thought of her, doing a marathon run and wildly waving at Fubuki in the crowd, and all around being a dependable woman confident in herself and in love with a mysterious esper. Prob a little shy when it comes to anything physical bc she loves Fubuki so much and is overwhelmed by the realness of being w her. Fubuki gives Mizuki advice on ‘acting like a proper hero’ or whatever and though Mizuki thinks she doesn’t need it, Fubuki still helps her a lot w her career and being taken more seriously by others. Would give Mizuki someone who loves her for who she is and would go wild on her in private when she can be open about her affection, would be someone Mizuki could exercise with and listen intently to Mizuki’s physical knowledge, and would absolutely bandage her when she’s all banged up. Hnghh love this ship. It’s only behind the FubuPsy ship juuuuust a little bc they haven’t met in canon so we can’t be sure about their interactions and stuff. 8.8/10, I love WOMEN
Batarou: how could I go this far without mentioning them?! They have SOOOO much tension in the centichoro fight, like come on. Both snarky assholes who are huge softies one the inside, Badd being the more logical one (still a himbo, tho) and Garou being the more chaotic one. Probably take forever to admit their feelings bc they’re so prideful and stupid <3 flirt through constant wrestling matches and it takes Genos saying ‘they should kiss already, they’re getting on his nerves’ for them to finally realize what’s up. (@rayadraws has a great au where Garou Genos and Badd are a chaotic friend squad and Genos is the only brain of the group, haha. Very good au y’all check it out!) Would constantly pick on each other affectionately and switch into concerned SO when the other is hurt like the big teddy bears they are. Raise Zenko together for sure. Garou would fumble being romantic and Badd would find it both hilarious and cute. 11/12
Zombie mask/Amai x Zombieman:
So. I don’t like Amai Mask and I used to hate him, BUT the webcomic and fic have really helped me calm down on him (he’s still a dick tho), so it’s easier to want to ship him and stuff. Bc of Amai’s anger issues and controlling behavior, I could see this relationship being super toxic and icky—but I think they have some form of understanding that pulls Amai back from being a complete dick, you know? Start off as fuck buddies and slowly form something else from spending companionable time together other than screwing. Zombieman pulls Amai back from his angry fits and soothes him over with his logic. Talk maaaaaad shit about heroes, but only when they’re alone because Zombieman knows Amai will talk loud af about the heroes they’re roasting and Zombie doesn’t wanna stop a fight from happening. Zombieman loves making Amai flustered and has a secret check list in his head of all the things that get Amai red faced. Loves to listen to Amai rant about things for hours and loves to watch his face go through almost cartoon like expressions as he talks. He won’t admit it, but Zombie loves to be spoiled by Amai’s shit tons of cash and often takes rides in Amai’s limos when he wants to smoke and think to himself. Amai has a hard time realizing how his feelings have changed, but gets hit hard with it when he wakes up to Zombie making them breakfast one morning while wearing Amai’s underwear. Amai also loves to spoil Zombie and takes him out to restaurants and buys him cool new weapons on the weekends. @batneko has pretty much gotten me into this ship and I strongly suggest looking at their works! 7.9/10
DemonKnight/Genos x Zero/Drive Knight: I’m pretty sure this used to be a crack ship before the past like 10 manga chapters—and now here we are! Not a fav bc 1. ZERO LEFT GENOS TO SELF DESTRUCT AFTER THEY COMBINED TO FORM THE FUCKING JET HE WAS JUST LIKE lol bye SO LIKE if he left him to die that’s super hard for me to forgive and ship grrr 2. Disregarding the manga’s canon and looking at the wc, while I love the little trip they went on where Zero demonstrated his abilities and helped Genos kill monsters, it’s super sus. He knew alllll of this info on Metal Knight and was super supportive and understanding when Genos said he needed time to think. Like,,,what are his intentions? We know so little about him—is he trying to trick Genos or was he being sincere? THAT STUFF ASIDE, they’re a really fun ship. They’re both huge fucking nerds and can keep up with their talk on robotics for hours, they’re both cyborgs so they understand each other’s pain, and they’re both super cool and angsty. I think they could really settle into a deep bond that can go platonic or romantic, just depends. Genos needs more ppl in his life so hell yeah! Plus, he can really let go with Zero bc they don’t have that teacher/student relationship and Zero, if he’s really a sincere and kind guy like in the wc, can be there for Genos and listen to him. Don’t have much to say on this ship other than @wellthisisembarrassing makes GORGEOUS art of them! 6.3/10
Webuiko/Suiko x Webigaza: YEAH I KNOW THEY HAVENT INTERACTED IN CANON AND WE DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM BUT HEAR ME OUT. Webigaza—cool af determined cyborg idol who’s surprisingly down to earth when talking with Child Emperor. Suiko—sassy and honest fighter who doesn’t take shit and is very passionate. Suiko would go to talk to Web then immediately freak out bc aaaa she’s way prettier than she thought, she can’t do this! Web would have to gently encourage Suiko to talk and at first is like ‘ah man, must be an adoring fan, ugh I’m so tired. At least she’s hot’ but when Suiko snaps out of her shyness Web is like oh! She’s super cool wtf. Always bump into each other during fights and help each other get fixed up, Suiko using her muscle power to lift Web’s pieces (and give Web a great view of Suiko’s muscles holy SHIT) and Web would patch Suiko up. Not to be stereotypical, but they’re def a masc/femme couple. I love the idea of this ship soooo much and I really hope they interact! 6.6/10 only bc they haven’t met 😭😭😭 look them up on here! There’s some great art of them by a few blogs
Dr. Kuseno x Bang: pretty sure @baldyborg came up with this one! Super cute. Just two old dudes finding a nice friendship in each other, maybe after Bang helps carry Genos to Kuseno’s after a day of fighting. Bang would find Kuseno to be a very cute little nerd man and would be sooo impressed by Kuseno’s mad scientist skills. Kuseno would be super impressed when seeing Bang in action too. They’d prob talk as soon as they meet each other and Genos would be in the background like you guys it’s been an hour, please fix me I’m on the verge of death 🧍🏻Bang would give Kuseno advice on training techniques to teach Genos and advice on making his bodies more martial arts ready or sum, meanwhile Kuseno would give his take on how to be kinder to Garou so that Bang would learn to repair the relationship with a gentleness he’s seemingly lacking (yes I’m talking about the chapter where he and Garou start fighting and Bang is just not doing enough to reach out to Garou, he’s being a callous old man! So yeah I’m still mad about that). Genos and Saitama would prob be out on a date and Saitama would be like oh theres Bang, wonder what he’s doing? Then Kuseno would walk up and kiss Bang and Genos and Sai would be shocked like SIRS 👬 Genos would tell Bang he doesn’t need another adoptive dad and Bang would be like....ok.... I see them retiring in a cottage together and Bang would become a huge softie. Yes I’m actively ignoring chapter 141 of the wc, shut up. 7.6/10
TankTop master x Mumen: they have a nice friendship going on in the manga right now! Just bros supporting bros. Tank is the picture definition of a muscly himbo and Mumen is his cute passionate bf. Also workout buddies af!! Don’t have much to say other than pretty good ship, just not a fav. 5.2/10
To sum it up—
GenoSai: 2718873737839439/10, Batarou: 11/12, SonFlash: 10/11, KingSai: 10/10, FubuPsy: 9/10, Fubuki x Mizuki: 8.8/10, MumenSai: 8.4/10, ZombieMask: 7.9/10, Dr. Kuseno x Bang: 7.6/10, Speedal: 7.4/10, OneZon: 7/10, Webuiko: 6.6/10, DemonKnight: 6.3/10, Okamaitachi x Bushidrill: 6.1/10, TatsuKing: 6/10, TankTop Master x Mumen: 5.2/10, Mumarou: 4.3/10, FubuSai: 4/10, SonSai: 3/10, Genos x Sonic: 1.3/10, TatsuSai: 0/10, anyone x Puri: -1283828319833468282/10
If there’s any ships I left out, it’s bc I don’t know them, don’t wanna talk about them, or just don’t have an opinion strong enough. Also, I know there are some poly ships like Genos x Saitama x Fubuki, but I’ve read only one fic about that (it was pretty good, here’s the link https://archiveofourown.org/works/5406992 ) so I don’t feel like talking about it. Hope no ones offended! All my opinion here :)

i havent posted anything in awhile but happy pride month yall! and, very much in me fashion imma take this time ta make another informational post! this installment is called
why assimilation is overall harmful to the queer community + the damage of pseudo-right wing ideas spread thruout the trans community!
CW: queerphobia, transmedicalism, bl*ir wh*te, k*lvin g*rrah, violence against queer ppl.
Tumblr media
so, where do we start?
assimilation, what is it?
assimilation is a deliberate effort made by a minority/ marginalized group to (instead of become free) join the majority/privledged, which is wildly more accesible ta abled nuerotypical cis white lgb folks.
now, how does that apply ta th queer community? before that, we hafta look at th stark distinction between th LGBT community and th QUEER community.
because sadly its now different
imma make this as short as possible but basically,
despite its intentions when it was formed decades ago, th LGBT communiy an th way it functions is percieved is different. case in point, th term LGBT has been heavily gentrified and commodified especially by corporations tryina sell it to non-lgbt audiences. youll notice a majority of LGBT voices an advocates are usually white cis lgb ppls or are assimilationists. th term LGBT aswell has been heavily diluted and decontexualized from its roots, such as fightin for rights wit riots an demonstrations, bein heavily tied wit black an indigenous liberation, socialist ideals and memorializing th struggle for our freedom. its also (as apart of its gentrification) is bein forced ta be more 'family friendly' in an effort of control an ta make cash off of us an further assimilate us.
the QUEER community is a somewhat niche nowadays as it sticks fairly close ta th original goals as th LGBT community once had. such as wantin an willin ta fight for liberation rather than succumb ta assimilation. its also seen as a threat as it directly challenges th authority (capitlism, cops/military, goverment, white supremacy, fascism) for its mistreatment an oppresion against queer ppl and other marginalized groups. if th LGBT community is th privledged assimilations that can be proffited off of, then th queer community is more alike 'outcasts' or 'rejects' that arent as palatable ta a cishet majority ie; trans women/ trans/queer ppls of colour, more radicalized queer folks, or those impoverished.
so, with that said, how has/does assimilation harm queer ppl?
as i said, assimilation is disspraportionatly accesible ta able-bodied, neurotypical, cis, non-poor white LGB ppls (shocker) meaning th majority of queer poc, trans people, impoverished, and diasbaled/neurodivergent folks get left behind and continuosly stomped on in an attempt ta eradicate us. and it should be noted theres 2 types of assimilation
1. forced assimilation; forced assimilation is where marginalized ppls thru cultural eradication/genocide r forced ta strip themselves of their identity an join th majority which results in oppresion, discrimination, an further erasure of th ppls themselves. this is heavily seen within th queer community wit th AIDS crisis where those who survived were later branded as 'brave' by th very system that sought their demise in th first place, leavin our community in shambles.
2. chosen assimilation; chosen assimilation is where usually a small group/ or a singular person will disregard their people in an a attempt ta be spared from oppresion or discrimination. in terms of queer ppl (especially trans folks) th main contendors r blair white, kalvin garrah, an buck angel. blair is a stellar example of attempted assimilation. she not only rejetcs, but constantly puts her own people on blast publicly ta her audince of white cishet conservatives an (more often than not) fascists. not only that but she deliberatly associates wit th very ppl who seek her erasure an oppresion in an assbackwards attempt at salvation. more concrete examples include 1. showin herself as 'one of th good ones' or 'normal' 2. acting as if shes cishet 3. constantly self-hating ta appease those mentioned above 4. spewing dangerous an misinormed rhetoric aimed at trans ppls which directly affects trans poc an non-passing trans women. next, kalvin garrah. i was gonna write a whole thing on him but instead ill (below) link copshatemoe's videos about him.
so, now that we know how assimilation both forced an personal harms queer ppls in general, what about trans ppls an th trans community?
transmedicalism and its disasterous effects towards the trans community.
transmedicalism is a belif system of sorts that follows ideals such as
beliving trans ppls must be suffering from dysphoria to be trans
a trans person must want to transition to be trans
being trans is a mental illness/ neurological condition/ birth defect cause by unbalanced horomone levels or th existence of "male and female brains"
belivies HRT or surgerys are a 'cure' for dysphoria/ 'transness'
that neopronouns or non-lesbian, gay, bisexual, or binary trans folks are invalid or 'wannabes' who see th "lgbt community as a club of sorts to join jus because"
borderline or blatant rascist, transmysoginistic, ableist rhetoric.
intentional or not, that assimilation is key an becomin 'as close ta bein cis as possible' is th goal of transition.
now, i could spend ages rantin about how these belifs are blatently wrong but however rather than disecting them lets jus go over th direct harm these belifs have caused th trans community.
lets start wit nonbinary folks. nowadays as ive seen transmedicalism has become more open ta acceptin nonbinary folks but regardless they were one of th first punchin bags. since bein nonbinary in any facet isnt exactly 'medically sustained' its already seen as bullshit, but past that it opens th gates for neoprounouns an non-convetional identitys. enby ppls would be attacked constantly or called "trenders" in an attempt ta discourage them from even existing. this 'highschool bully' type of mentality along wit th superiority complex behind transmedicalism created a stark divide between "normal" trans ppls an th "weirdo, faker" trans ppls. not only did these attacks further stigmatize an already oppresed minority but also forced ppl ta hide themselves from they own community ta avoid ridicule an bullying. this type of harrasment has left these ppls wit trauma an fear of they identity bein challenged not only online but also in IRL queer spaces while they already hafta stay hypervigilant around cis ppl, now it seems th same around binary trans folks. not only have nonbinary ppls have been impacted however, binary trans ppls were left wit insecurities, wonderin if they dysphoria is 'rlly that bad compared ta others' and worrying about things they usually didnt care about. probably th biggest of those is 'passing'. passing is th action of looking as cis as possible ta blend in an avoid general treatments sustained by cishet ppls. i as a transwomen was directly affected by this rhetoric which caused me years of my transition spent not becomin myself, but becomin as close ta a cis girl as possible. this lead me ta become embarresed by my own community also factored in by havin virtually no trans friends IRL. this was th shared experince of many binary trans folks an nonbinary trans folks i know an am friends with. in conclusion, transmedicalsim has not only ostrasized an traumatized queer folks, but has also left insecurities an damage ta binaty trans folks aswell.
so, with that in mind, how do we combat, well, all of this an much more?
liberation
liberation is th action of freeing a marginalized group from its oppresive chains. an how would this look/work for th queer community?
majority of cishet ppls think that queer liberation ended wit marriage equality but thats very much not true. multiple basic human freedoms have been stripped from not only cis lgb queers but also trans people aswell. rights such as affordable housing witout discrimination, medical options for trans people being completly accesible or downright free, safe spaces or areas where were able ta exist free of fear of persecution or discrimination, better healthcare treatment towards queer ppl, things sometimes neccisary ta ones transition bein more accesible such as name/document changes, and many more things. but remember, none of this is possible witout ingigenous liberation/land back, black liberation, or under capitlism
anyways, i have 0 way ta end this so happy pride month an a very happy juneteenth!! if ur black ur more than welcome ta leave any gofundmes, cashapps, venmos etc in th notes or reblogs!
also, if you have any additions or points/topics i shouldve made or covered pls reblog wit them!

Hi I have severe hypmic brainrot and will now proceed to subject y’all to it. Have my various gender and sexuality headcanons. Also I am trans and mlm so you’ll have to bare with me.
Ichiro: gay gay homosexual gay. Ichikukojyushi polycule real trust me I’m literally jyushi. We all may make hentai lover ichiro jokes but I feel like he’s ace of some sort. He’s cis but he’s also he/they because he just rejects gender. Good for him
Jiro: cis straight Chad but like somehow I feel like he grows up into a himbo and wow does that make me think about making him a little fruity.
Saburo: non-binary. They are just too gender to not be. Gender envy right here right now. Yes I have gender envy for a 14 year old, no it’s not weird. Also their fourteen so I have no thoughts on their sexuality.
Samatoki: but like is that trauma I smell? I don’t know man have daddy issues and sharing cigarette kisses with 2+ men is kinda smelling like gay to me? And he’s a lesbian protector. Also cis but literally you cannot convince me he isn’t the best trans ally ever.
Jyuto: gives me gay and homophobic. But I will put him into the bisexuality corner because I can’t deny the truth. Trans man bc his haircut is just giving off vibes.
Rio: TRANS MAN!!! YOU CANT HAVE TIDDIES LIKE THAT WITHOUT RAISING SUSPICION!! TRANS DETECTOR GOING OFFF. Also a sweet southern bisexual man. God I love him.
Ramuda: okay he’s trans and pansexual and do NOT argue with me on this one it is TRUE KING RECORDS TOLD ME.
Gentaro: he’s- he’s literally the non-binary flag colors. Also bi with a fem lean. Pronouns She/He because I’m not a coward.
Dice: instead of gay and homophobic he’s giving trans and does not know what gender is. Bi and prolly she/he/they because once again, I am not a coward his name is DICE. DAISU. NO CIS PERSON HAS A NAME LIKE THAT.
Jakurai: quizzical old gay man. Elder queer. I just know in my soul he’s old and gay. Also like he/she but in the gnc I like being feminine but I’m certainly not female way. But no please jakurai using feminine pronouns but masculine nouns just feels good in my soul.
Hifumi: trans man. Another trans male you can pry from my cold dead hands. Pan or bi bc yes his love of women is different but he literally has gynophobia so please understand it’s not possible for it to be perfectly the same.
Doppo: agender. He was so so uncomfortable dressing as a lady in that one arb event but it’s bc no gender instead of trans man with dysphoria bc jyuto isn’t transphobic. This is not my only argument but “too tired for gender” isn’t all that compelling now is it? Also is he gay or does he too have a fear of women? Like I just feel like doppo is genuinely afraid of having relationships women bc of chuuoku but I shouldn’t think about it that hard. They/He but doesn’t correct ppl and apologizes to them when they misgender him/only use he/him.
Kuko: hmmm non-binary. And technically this man should not be any type of sexual but you know what he gets a pass. Technically he’s not supposed to touch the opposite sex… and he isn’t so like you go dude, be gay do crime.
Jyushi: you can’t even pry trans male Jyushi out of my dead hands I’m right. Also he’s bi. But god damn is he very male leaning. Oh he also gives big he/she/they vibes but also I’m kinda like hmmmmm. Is he just very feminine?? Bc if so me too dude. He/him strictly but very fem gang.
Hitoya: also gives quizzical old gay vibes. He trans because I say so. Literally he’s just so vivacious.
Sasara: gay gay home of sexual gay. Literally have you met this man??? Just so fruity. He’s probably cis but this guy is just so gender. So maybe a he/they. As a treat.
Rosho: okay that is a trans man if I’ve ever seen one. Also like gives off the vibes of a gay but surprisingly he does in fact like women! A bicon if I do say so myself!
Rei: cishet. Like I want him to be gay so so bad but he is not a gay he’s just that much of a disaster straight. He feels like a true old gay man and I just want to hand him the trophy but no I can’t lie he is cishet and would probably kill me💙
Otome: cis but the biest woman to ever bi. Literally I don’t care if everyone and their mother thinks she’s a lesbian I have to be honest she’s a bi woman scorned horridly.
Ichijuku: a trans lesbian. I’m no coward literally prove me wrong you can’t.
Nemu my love, the one woman I would get on one knee for instead of two: trans trans trans please let me have this one. At least non-binary. Please let me HAVE THIS. Also like I love her so much but she is a slightly mean bi lady and Ichijuku is the mean lesbian not the other way around. She would be a wonderfully girl boss mean lesbian though

nb tumblr, a screenplay
me: so you think we should broaden our ideas about non-binary people
tumblr user im making fun of: yes, absolutely. have you ever noticed how people use ‘non-binary’ to mean ‘white skinny hairless androgyne’? its fucked up
me: i agree, that is fucked up. and you also agree that we shouldnt assume things about non-binary people based on their birth assignment?
tumblr user: yes, absolutely. whether or not someone was assigned male or female is irrelevant. in fact the very question is basically a woke way of asking non-binary people what they have in their pants
me: yeah i agree, thats pretty fucking irritating (especially because agab does not necessarily correlate to whats in your pants, but i assume youre as neurotic and overly-online as me enough to get that without us needing to be explicit)
tumblr user: (yes, i agree, we’re both that neurotic)
me: cool. so with that in mind, whats that post youre wriitng
tumblr user: well i want to support non-binary people who fit outside the norm. you know, those of us who have a lot of body hair, or who are tall and broad, or -
me: hmm i think i see where youre going with this. youre not just gonna say “AMAB nbs” and call it a day, are you?
tumblr user:
me: because AMAB non binary people arent a monolith, and if they were, characterizing that monolith as “hairy + male passing” would probably be pretty fucking cruel
tumblr user: well ok but thats not-
me: also AFAB people can have body hair? and be tall or broad? i mean many nonbinary people go on testosterone, but also youre aware that AFAB people can grow body hair, right?
tumblr user: why are you being so fucking pedantic? i was just trying to spread some positivity for AMAB non binary people, holy shit. obviously im not saying theyre all hairy or broad-shouldered or whatever, but like... some of them are! and we should respect them!
me: yeah no shit! but some nonbinary people are hairy and tall and broad and theyre Not AMAB!
tumblr user: yeah but ...... ugh you know what i meant though! obviously theres minute exceptions but generally when ppl shit on nb folks who look like dudes, theyre shitting on amab nonbinary people. its about numbers. no one wants to write a million caveats into their one-off positivity posts
me: yes, but as a nonbinary person who both looks like a dude, dresses femininely, and gets shit on anyway -- like, my AFABness doesn’t save me from the social ridicule or rejection i receive -- i think that posts like yours imply a bunch of weird shit about assigned gender that isnt even true all the time! especially in trans spaces! we shouldnt associate ‘AMAB’ with ‘masculine’ and ‘AFAB’ with feminine! its just reinventing gender! fuck, its not even REINVENTING gender, its just....gender! its the same gender! like these are the same genders we already had. and we’re talking about non-binary people! isn’t that a problem to you? don’t you find it convenient that our discourse still assumes the same tired cliche tropes about people based on birth assignment? that “afab = weak whiny hairless baby” and “amab = huge hulking loner who needs extra support and pity”?? isnt that a depressing and ghoulish idea of gender freedom?
tumblr user:
tumblr user: ok but as a TME person you should shut up and kill yourself
me: (already undergoing radiation poisoning and growing mushrooms on my back)
