Canon Sirius through quotes

Part 4. How Sirius shows care towards people and animals.

Sirius has a trait that often seems like irresponsibility or excessive harshness.

Sirius really respects another person's free will and choice and even treats teenagers as adults with their own minds. It's a deeply rooted idea of respecting others as agents of free will.

That's why he has no pity for those who make mistakes, including himself. To him, any mistake is always a person's free choice. Sirius will never forgive Peter because, regardless of Peter's circumstances for betrayal, it ultimately was a CHOICE. He even refuses to forgive the Ministry (as if the Ministry cares, oh Sirius):

‘Don’t worry about Percy,’ said Sirius abruptly. ‘He’ll come round. It’s only a matter of time before Voldemort moves into the open; once he does, the whole Ministry’s going to be begging us to forgive them. And I’m not sure I’ll be accepting their apology,’ he added bitterly.

He tells this to Molly after she encounters a boggart. Contrary to popular belief, in this scene, he doesn't really comfort her after their argument. Lupin does most of the work. Sirius just adds this phrase. He's still angry at Molly for what she said, just acting more maturely and not escalating the conflict further. He's angry because he understands Molly said exactly what she meant. Molly is also angry at him, they generally love to get angry at each other because they don't really understand each other.

They were both speaking in carefully light, polite voices that told Harry quite plainly that neither had forgotten their disagreement of the night before.

He even considers Kreacher an agent of free will. 

‘You’d be surprised what Kreacher can manage when he wants to, Hermione,’ said Sirius.

As they say - where there's a will, there's a way. When people say that Kreacher was lower in the hierarchy than Sirius (as any house-elf would be), Sirius himself did not see it that way, and it’s truly paradoxical. He argued with Kreacher, kicked him, engaged in verbal battles, though he could have just given direct orders. Kreacher's insults towards Sirius were similar in style to Walburga's  (otherwise, where would Kreacher learn those insults?), and Sirius... Sirius, instead of direct orders, just yells back or kicks him. When Harry gives Kreacher a direct order to shut up, Kreacher obeys instantly. A house-elf must obey the direct orders of their master. But Sirius doesn't give direct orders. Because for him, Kreacher is also an agent of free will (and also some ‘‘member‘‘ of his beloved and hated family, as Sirius is much more attached to the Blacks than he would like to admit).

Because of his attitude towards equals, Sirius fights for Harry to get the information he needs. For Sirius, Harry is an adult, not a five-year-old child who needs to be looked after in the style of Molly. Molly deprives Harry of his agency, his choice, and his own opinion with her overprotection. We have to understand Molly; she really worries for all of them, as half her family is in the Order and can die. She doesn't want to lose Harry, so she tries to protect him in every way. Plus, they all have orders from Dumbledore. Isn't Molly right? Molly has her point, she works for the Order and thinks Sirius could harm with his too "independent" behaviour, and teach Harry this excessive independence. And what does independence from Dumbledore lead to? Molly knows well (and so does Sirius) – last time such "independence" from Dumbledore cost the Potters their lives. I don't want to judge Molly. She's a member of the newer incarnation of the Order of the Phoenix, and a good one at that. Sirius, however, is still mentally in the era of the Order's original incarnation (as is Lupin, though he is more conforming and softer), a time when the rules of engagement were harsher, with much more focus on the grim realities of war. The newer version of the Order operates with different tactics – emphasizing manipulation, cunning, and caution.

Molly and Sirius have different approaches. Molly is about caution. Sirius is about action.

Sirius treats Harry as a subject, not an object to be shielded from information.

Sirius knows where his area of responsibility is and what he can influence, and where he should not interfere:

‘Not just yet, Molly,’ said Sirius, pushing away his empty plate and turning to look at Harry. ‘You know, I’m surprised at you. I thought the first thing you’d do when you got here would be to start asking questions about Voldemort.’

‘I did!’ said Harry indignantly. ‘I asked Ron and Hermione but they said we’re not allowed in the Order, so –’

‘And they’re quite right,’ said Mrs Weasley. ‘You’re too young.’

‘Since when did someone have to be in the Order of the Phoenix to ask questions?’ asked Sirius. ‘Harry’s been trapped in that Muggle house for a month. He’s got the right to know what’s been happen—’

‘How come Harry gets his questions answered?’ said Fred angrily. ‘We’ve been trying to get stuff out of you for a month and you haven’t told us a single stinking thing!’ said George.

‘It’s not my fault you haven’t been told what the Order’s doing,’ said Sirius calmly, ‘that’s your parents’ decision. Harry, on the other hand –’

He doesn't tell the twins anything because it's not his responsibility. But Harry – that's his responsibility. And Sirius believes it's up to him to decide what Harry is allowed to know and what not (considering Dumbledore's instructions "I don’t intend to tell him more than he needs to know, Molly").

‘He’s not your son,’ said Sirius quietly.

‘He’s as good as,’ said Mrs Weasley fiercely. ‘Who else has he got?’

‘He’s got me!’

In the situation with Molly, you see two opposing views clash. Molly, with the archetype of a guardian, wants to shelter everyone with her care. Sirius, with the archetype of a rebel, respects Harry's wishes and wants to open up new knowledge and opportunities for him to fight.

‘He’s not a member of the Order of the Phoenix!’ said Mrs Weasley. ‘He’s only fifteen and –’

‘And he’s dealt with as much as most in the Order,’ said Sirius, ‘and more than some.’

‘No one’s denying what he’s done!’ said Mrs Weasley, her voice rising, her fists trembling on the arms of her chair. ‘But he’s still –’

‘He’s not a child!’ said Sirius impatiently.

Sirius probably stopped considering himself a child very early on. Maybe it came from his conservative family, where children were expected to grow up earlier, not walk around as "little children" until they were 18. They think about marriage, duty to the family, responsibility early on. Plus, wizards come of age earlier – at 17. So, for Sirius, 15 years old is not a child anymore.

That's why Sirius defends Harry's right "to know".

‘Since when did someone have to be in the Order of the Phoenix to ask questions?’ asked Sirius. ‘Harry’s been trapped in that Muggle house for a month. He’s got the right to know what’s been happen—’

‘But as he was the one who saw Voldemort come back’ (again, there was a collective shudder around the table at the name) ‘he has more right than most to –’

Sirius really encourages taking action. His way of caring isn't about coddling. It's about giving knowledge, opportunities, resources, and supporting in the right direction. For Sirius, to live is to act; he can't be without action, doesn't understand life without it:

‘Personally, I’d have welcomed a Dementor attack. A deadly struggle for my soul would have broken the monotony nicely. You think you’ve had it bad, at least you’ve been able to get out and about, stretch your legs, get into a few fights ... I’ve been stuck inside for a month.’

Sirius can't not act and he doesn't understand how you could do otherwise. He knows Harry is the same because Harry is like his dad, meaning James was the same – always acting.

And he encourages this in Harry. But he always teaches to act with thought, not just charging in. In the 4th book, Sirius was telling Harry not to stick his neck out, but in the 5th, it's the opposite. Sirius has his own logic, which he shows here:

‘So, you want me to say I’m not going to take part in the Defence group?’ he muttered finally.

‘Me? Certainly not!’ said Sirius, looking surprised. ‘I think it’s an excellent idea!’

‘You do?’ said Harry, his heart lifting.

‘Of course I do!’ said Sirius. ‘D’you think your father and I would’ve lain down and taken orders from an old hag like Umbridge?’

‘But – last term all you did was tell me to be careful and not take risks –’

‘Last year, all the evidence was that someone inside Hogwarts was trying to kill you, Harry!’ said Sirius impatiently. ‘This year, we know there’s someone outside Hogwarts who’d like to kill us all, so I think learning to defend yourselves properly is a very good idea!’

‘And if we do get expelled?’ Hermione asked, a quizzical look on her face.

‘Well, better expelled and able to defend yourselves than sitting safely in school without a clue,’ said Sirius.

That's Sirius through and through. A true Gryffindor, who won't just sit around when there's danger afoot. You might argue that he shouldn't have encouraged Harry in this way. But what else was he to do? Hand Harry over to Umbridge? Of course not. He trusts Harry, believes in his potential. He treats Harry as an equal, not as a child, and that's why Harry feels so connected to Sirius – at last, someone sees him as mature enough, respects him as a free person. Throughout the series, Harry has been shielded from the truth, kept in the dark, yet Sirius shows him a different kind of respect – he sees Harry as someone who can act, in whom he places his trust and belief. Is Sirius right? When it comes to Harry – absolutely. As for the war, the Order, and following Dumbledore's orders – Molly would definitely disapprove.

He even passes Molly's words on to Ron. In his sarcastic manner, but still:

… anyway ... first of all, Ron – I’ve sworn to pass on a message from your mother.’

‘Oh yeah?’ said Ron, sounding apprehensive.

‘She says on no account whatsoever are you to take part in an illegal secret Defence Against the Dark Arts group. She says you’ll be expelled for sure and your future will be ruined. She says there will be plenty of time to learn how to defend yourself later and that you are too young to be worrying about that right now. She also’ (Sirius’s eyes turned to the other two) ‘advises Harry and Hermione not to proceed with the group, though she accepts that she has no authority over either of them and simply begs them to remember that she has their best interests at heart. She would have written all this to you, but if the owl had been intercepted you’d all have been in real trouble, and she can’t say it for herself because she’s on duty tonight.’

Again – a striking difference between what Molly understands by care and what Sirius understands by it.

Sirius lets Harry feel that he's believed in, respected, that his actions are encouraged. Sometimes Sirius criticises them, because as much as he encourages action, he believes all actions should be reasoned. Act according to logic, not thoughtlessly.

For instance, Sirius sternly reprimands him in the 4th book when Harry, in his opinion, does something foolish. And notice his communication style. Sirius is often blunt in conversation, in his way of talking, he doesn't sugarcoat. And Harry's okay with that. Sirius isn't one for mushiness.

Harry – what do you think you are playing at, walking off into the Forest with Viktor Krum? I want you to swear, by return owl, that you are not going to go walking with anyone else at night. There is somebody highly dangerous at Hogwarts. It is clear to me that they wanted to stop Crouch seeing Dumbledore and you were probably feet away from them in the dark. You could have been killed.

Your name didn’t get into the Goblet of Fire by accident. If someone’s trying to attack you, they’re on their last chance. Stay close to Ron and Hermione, do not leave Gryffindor Tower after hours, and arm yourself for the third task. Practise Stunning and Disarming. A few hexes wouldn’t go amiss either. There’s nothing you can do about Crouch. Keep your head down and look after yourself. I’m waiting for your letter giving me your word you won’t stray out of bounds again.

That's what care means to Sirius. Not forbidding him from knowing information. But actively helping him so Harry is ready to stand up to challenges.

Or like this:

‘Now, listen ...’ he looked particularly hard at Harry – ‘I don’t want you lot sneaking out of school to see me, all right? Just send notes to me here. I still want to hear about anything odd. But you’re not to go leaving Hogwarts without permission, it would be an ideal opportunity for someone to attack you.’

‘No one’s tried to attack me so far, except a dragon and a couple of Grindylows,’ Harry said.

But Sirius scowled at him. ‘I don’t care ... I’ll breathe freely again when this Tournament’s over, and that’s not until June. And don’t forget, if you’re talking about me among yourselves, call me Snuffles, OK?’

At the same time, he provides Harry with emotional support. Just without the mushiness. There's a sort of rough tenderness about it, making these signs of attention and love seem even more important and pleasant.

‘What’re you doing here, Sirius?’ he said.

‘Fulfilling my duty as godfather,’ said Sirius, gnawing on the chicken bone in a very dog-like way. ‘Don’t worry about me, I’m pretending to be a loveable stray.’

The post owls appeared, bringing Harry a good-luck card from Sirius. It was only a piece of parchment, folded over and bearing a muddy paw print on its front, but Harry appreciated it all the same.

He also provides Harry with real resources that can help him:

‘I want you to take this,’ he said quietly, thrusting a badly wrapped package roughly the size of a paperback book into Harry’s hands.

‘What is it?’ Harry asked.

‘A way of letting me know if Snape’s giving you a hard time. No, don’t open it in here!’ said Sirius, with a wary look at Mrs Weasley, who was trying to persuade the twins to wear hand-knitted mittens. ‘I doubt Molly would approve – but I want you to use it if you need me, all right?’

‘Sirius’s knife,’ he said. ‘Excuse me?’ ‘Christmas before last Sirius gave me a knife that’ll open any lock,’ said Harry. ‘So even if she’s bewitched the door so Alohomora won’t work, which I bet she has –’

Sirius isn't inclined to pity. He respects the choices of others. His care is expressed in this – he knows people's strengths and trusts them to do their job. He thinks Hagrid will be okay because Hagrid is tough. Why worry?

‘Listen, don’t go asking too many questions about Hagrid,’ said Sirius hastily, ‘it’ll just draw even more attention to the fact that he’s not back and I know Dumbledore doesn’t want that. Hagrid’s tough, he’ll be OK.’

And he respects the choice of the twins' father, though many find Sirius's words harsh:

‘We don’t care about the dumb Order!’ shouted Fred.

‘It’s our dad dying we’re talking about!’ yelled George.

‘Your father knew what he was getting into and he won’t thank you for messing things up for the Order!’ said Sirius, equally angry. ‘This is how it is – this is why you’re not in the Order – you don’t understand – there are things worth dying for!’

But it's not cruelty or indifference, it's respect for their father's choice, as an agent of free will.

Sirius even treats animals this way. Look how he got on with the cat. And yet he understands that animals are defenceless and need support. He doesn't expect danger from them and often finds comfort in their company.

‘This cat isn’t mad,’ said Black hoarsely. He reached out a bony hand and stroked Crookshanks’s fluffy head. ‘He’s the most intelligent of his kind I’ve ever met. He recognised Peter for what he was straight away. And when he met me, he knew I was no dog. It was a while before he trusted me. Finally, I managed to communicate to him what I was after, and he’s been helping me ...’

Kreacher injured Buckbeak the Hippogriff yesterday, and, at the moment when you made your appearance in the fire, Sirius was upstairs tending to him.’

Crookshanks, Hermione’s bandy-legged ginger cat, who wound himself once around Harry’s legs, purring, then jumped on to Sirius’s lap and curled up. Sirius scratched him absent-mindedly behind the ears as he turned, still grim-faced, to Harry.

Sirius, who had just entered the room carrying a bloodstained bag of what appeared to be dead rats. ‘I’ve just been feeding Buckbeak,’ he added, in reply to Harry’s enquiring look. ‘I keep him upstairs in my mother’s bedroom

Soon, however, he was moodier and surlier than before, talking less to everybody, even Harry, and spending increasing amounts of time shut up in his mother’s room with Buckbeak.

He became more and more prone to what Mrs Weasley called ‘fits of the sullens’, in which he would become taciturn and grumpy, often withdrawing to Buckbeak’s room for hours at a time.

Sirius befriended the cat, treated it as an intelligent being, and constantly cared for the hippogriff. Sirius is very closed off from people (after Azkaban, he only opens up to Harry and Remus), he builds a tough armour, but easily opens up to animals and easily cares for them in a nurturing manner – and they love him back.

In conclusion, Sirius respects the free choice of others. For him, pity towards another is demeaning. Sirius hates pity – neither for himself nor for others. To pity = to demean, to pity means to acknowledge the other as incapable and weak. And Sirius doesn't meddle in others' relationships, he well separates his zone of responsibility, and care for him is to give resources and information so the person can act. And he's good with animals, and to animals, he can show a different attitude – nurturing, because acknowledging animals as weaker doesn't demean them, because animals truly are weaker.

This character trait of Sirius isn't for moral judgement, just that's how he is, and it's important to understand that.

Why do anti’s claim that Daemon doesn’t love Rhaenyra when everyone from the show-runners to the cast and crew say he does. Matt Smith has said it multiple times. He even said it at the London Con this summer when they were in the middle of filming season two.

It's because they hate Rhaenyra. This is a tale as old as time, anon. Trust me when I tell you it did not start with the show.

The headcanon that Daemon did not love Rhaenyra appeared ever since Fire and Blood was published. I couldn't quite put my finger on why this idea surfaced and why it was pushed around with such force. Recently I did. The fandom simply could not and can not stand the idea of Rhaenyra being loved by Daemon.

Laena and Nettles stans especially have this fixation. You can go anywhere: to tumblr, to twitter, to reddit and beyond, and you will find all sorts of frustrated people bemoaning the fact that Daemon was portrayed as genuinely loving Rhaenyra.

It goes hand in hand with the fact that Rhaenyra is not all sweet and pure and demure as a female character — traits that they somehow, for whatever reason, decided are the "epitome" of femininity, even though Rhaenyra herself is extremely feminine. It's also the fact that in their vision Daemon is someone that must be "tamed" (whatever the hell that means), and since Rhaenyra herself urged him to kill people at her order and do her bidding, they placed the self-insert into other female characters that fit their agenda more.

Now, I don't usually offer much relevance to what the showrunners have to say, because many times they contradict themselves. But Ryan did say repeatedly that Rhaenyra is the woman Daemon truly loves, and the person he particularly loves, Geeta Patel said that in episode 8 Daemon and Rhaenyra mirror Geeta and her own husband that are very much in love, the costume designer for episode 7 did say that theirs was a wedding for love. Heck, even Sara Hess said that Daemon loves Rhaenyra.

And Matt himself who has been the most consistent, of course, and always made it clear how important and essential Rhaenyra and Viserys are for Daemon's character — the only two people to be so.

But for the antis is ultimately irrelevant because they just don't care. They simply ignore the things that don't fit their agenda. It's a way to portray Daemon as completely black, incapable of love, and Rhaenyra as someone unloved/unlovable.

fine. i'll scream into a pillow periodically and get through this...

obviously, i don't actually find the concept of harmony sincerely upsetting - people shipping things is never that deep, and because, as i've said before, i subscribe to the principle that any pairing is possible if you just have enough nerve. i've been recommended some harmony fics by people who are fonder of the ship, and while i've not found them immediately compelling, i do appreciate that there are plenty of people who disagree.

but my feelings are basically the same for harmony as they are for dramione: that it's never done interestingly.

harmony is - like all hermione pairings except [broadly] romione - a breeding ground for fanon!hermione, who is perfect and flawless and so clever she can solve millennia-old mysteries in afternoon. i hate this version of the character because i find her boring - it's just standard self-insert stuff, which is fine but not something i have any interest in reading. i similarly dislike the version of harry who appears in these stories, who ends up - like all men in hermione pairings except [broadly] ron - being either this impossibly sophisticated and suave intellectual with the body of a greek god or a doormat who's happy to shut the fuck up forever and do whatever she says.

[i also hate - obviously, since he's my king - the way harmony stories are often even more egregious than dramione ones in writing ron as a cruel and violent misogynist who is ontologically indistinct from your average death eater. and i think it somewhat proves my point that neither of these ships work particularly well that this character assassination has to take place in order to make them plausible...]

and i think the flattening of harry and hermione's personalities within most harmony is the main thing which keeps the ship from being interesting. because - while i certainly don't go in for the common anti-harmony argument that harry actively dislikes hermione - it's undeniable that there is a lot about the two of them which wouldn't be conducive to a harmonious [lol] relationship.

their communication styles - hermione works through problems by debating them, harry prefers not to be challenged - are the obvious one. their ways of expressing affection - hermione shows people she cares about them by nagging them and meddling in their lives, harry very much does not - are another. they have extremely different views about authority, they decompress in different ways [harry is someone who clearly needs to keep physically active to clear his head, hermione is much more of a homebody], and harry's impulsiveness is a poor match for hermione's fondness for planning.

they are also similar in ways which would cause them to butt heads. both have a tendency towards obsessiveness, which they rely in canon on ron pulling them out of. both have a significant capacity for cruelty and extremely black-and-white moral codes - harry has a tendency towards forming judgements on people and situations based on whether they are people he likes or things he benefits from [i.e. how he's appalled by dobby's treatment because his masters are the malfoys, but doesn't give a shit about kreacher's because his abusive master is sirius], while hermione tends to regard any rule-breaking she does as justified even if she'd regard it as outrageous from anyone else [i.e. her fury over harry appearing to use felix felicis to improve's ron's performance at quidditch when she herself confunded cormac mclaggen to get him onto the team...]. both have a tendency towards giving people the silent treatment when they're angry. both are incredibly stubborn...

and so on.

obviously, they also have positive qualities in common too - a shared loyalty, for one - but it always seems to me that the standard move in harmony is for authors to completely ignore these conflicting traits, either really over-egging what makes harry and hermione compatible platonically in the books or just inventing similarities [especially intellectual ones] to justify the pairing. whereas i would much prefer to see just how difficult it would be for harry and hermione to fall and sustain being in love with each other, and i've never seen that done compellingly.

but the conflict i'd love to see explored in harmony fics most of all, but which never seems to be acknowledged by fans of the pairing, is that [despite the fanon slander that ron is the person who behaves poorly towards her] harry is often horrible to hermione and hermione is often scared of harry.

this is at its most profound after ron leaves the horcrux hunt in deathly hallows, but we see several times throughout canon that - if ron isn't there to mediate between them - harry often treats hermione in a way which can be considered downright cruel. if she criticises him in a way he considers unjustifiable, he tends to side with other people against her [ron in prisoner of azkaban over the firebolt; ginny in half-blood prince over snape's textbook]. if she tries to reason with him he often beats her down with the force of his emotions [i.e. when she tries to get him to think about whether his vision of sirius in the department of mysteries might be a trick] or his convictions [i.e. when he lures her into near-death by being certain that nagini is really bathilda bagshot], and she often ends up having to soothe or appease him when he's the one who's screamed at her.

hermione is also scared more generally of harry's experiences - she's by far the least amenable of the trio to talking about voldemort [even though she says his name earlier than ron does] - and mission, which puts up a barrier between them which will be difficult to bring down post-war. i think there's something which could be really interesting there - the most interesting dynamic in hinny, after all, is when harry and ginny's tendency to not actually be honest with each other is explored - but unfortunately at the minute that sort of character work is drowning in a sea of "ron is so stupid and harry and i just love talking about classic literature, come darling, put on your leather trousers and let us solve world hunger; i look like emma watson" nonsense.

Charles couldn't respond because he knows that she won't understand him. But the reason he was out here was to find her of course. She has displayed So many positive traits of a mate for his master. She already responded to the possible Danger. She's taken care of her Adult child she adopted and she came down to protect the people around her. Make her a candidate for if her and his master decide to ever have children. She checked every box Of the list in his head and he actually likes her personally so win win.

Charles When to find the monkey queen Because he's never seen another monkey a female one before. He thought she had good traits of being a mate and considering she's remaining calm in front of the Possible danger that is him and keeping the child she already has safe She could be amazing mother in the future.

She seems to be good candidate for a mate for his master. She's already displaying motherly traits towards the child. She already has and she is ready to defend her from the possible danger that is him. Though he wouldn't in a million years attack. A small child especially when you can clearly smell her scent on A little girl so attacking her would mean attacking the monkey. Queen and that's not what he wants to do.

But anyway, charles allowed the small child to climb out of him and approach the queen She pushed Liuer Behind her In case it wasn't a trap but before anybody can say or do anything

Charles approached a monkey queen because he already saw qualities of a mate for His own master she fit every aspect of him and Because of that he wants to make the relationship start as soon as possible. And in order to do that, he came to study her and see what they can use a platform.

Wukong Just groaned because it seems like he's not leaving anytime soon. To Charles, her aggression would be handy for possible dangerous to herself and any children. His master and her will have.

(Netflix Wukong) The village was in chaos again. Monkey queen was on her way to fix whatever's going on until she saw A very familiar creature who had gotten there first.

Wukong I found that charles was already ripping through the demon invaders like tissue paper. The big old spider was covered in blood and chewing on the corpse of a demon. It seems like he killed all of them already before Swallowing the demon and approaching the monkey queen herself.

Wukong Guarded herself ready to fight until a big bloody slimey me tongue wiped itself against her furry face. The monkey queen stood still horrified by what she just experienced while charles was letting out excited whistles noises. Charles took a immediate liking to the monkey Queen herself. Says she's never seen a female monkey before. He is so sick of his master being alone all the time in that damn jungle It's about time he got out and socialized make some friends and find a girlfriend. And for his master to do that, he's going to need to give him a bit of a push.

It's the anniversary of my most popular post on how people fail to recognize a vampire (in this case Silas from "The Graveyard Book") unless the story spells it out for them

And to this day I still get notes from people voicing their atonishment that they never noticed this

So I've created a comprehensive list of all vampiric traits and behaviors Silas shares with Dracula (since Dracula Daily has started again too) as well as with Bram Stoker's other vampires.

First I'll always give a quote/s from "Dracula" showing the behavior, and then one from "The Graveyard Book" to go along with it

Not consuming human food or drink

Now, do i have some headcanons?

General

While not strict, demon can be sorted into different categories. Some of them are: avian, reptile, fish, amphibian, insectoid, mammal and hybrid.

There a lot of arguing abot how to better categorise them, some demonologist argue that there is no such thing as "fish" type, while others say that arachnids should be considered a seperate type

Each brother, exept Mammon, represent the most common type present in their Ring

Mammon is a hybrid type. Hybrids aren't common but most of them come from the Greed Ring, some demons like to joke that "greed demons wanted to take all the good traits for themselves"

Body hair and fat are traits most often associated with mammal types but other demons can easily have those of they so wish and/or they lifestyle made them like that

Genitals are not a fixed thing. Demons are flexible like that. I also believe that demons are most lax when it comes to this stuff. Angels used to have the most strict gender policies until humans became-waves hand- like this

Lucifer

Avian type

Has the body type like those horny Lucifer statues, you know the ones

Scars. A lot of them. The biggest is a mix of old wounds and burns that starts at his ribs and goes to the mid thigh

He covers them up with clothes but refuses to glamour them

Suffers from chronic pain, especially in his back

Bird feet, with talons✨️

Mammon

Hybrid type

Slutty waist🖤

Lean body with some muscle definition. My boy has to look a certain way in order to be a model

Used to have scars but glamoured them

The fastest among the brothers, rivaled only by Barbatos among the high ranking demons

Covered in the most pretty scales you'll ever see, compliment him!

Uses the fish in his giant tank to clean his horns

The guy is a reader. No muscles, soft body and a belly.

Moderate amount of body hair but it's so light you can hardly see it at first

No muscle whatsoever. Still slim, like those pretty anime boys

Mandibles that come out when he's excited

Managed to avoid getting any big scars or at least he says so. His body is heavily glamoured

Scorpion tail isn't just for show, darling. Be careful

Can withstand the most extreme temperatures but who would put this beauty in such conditions. He will complain all the the time while his less adjusted brothers are literally dying of heat/cold

Beelzebub

Insect type

Strongman body because i said so

Grows body hair to make Belphie feel better about his body

Stamina and strength is off the charts

Buzzes when happy or excited

Unhinged jaw and mandibles, also long tube-like tongue

A lot of scars, i haven't drew them but oooh boy Beel is covered in old wounds

Black spots across the body

Tall as Beel but slouches most of the time

Actually really malnourished, you can see his ribs and hipbones

I headcanon him getting slowly better though

For the love of Demon King, brush his tail i beg you

No hooves because he hates the constant maintenance they require

Forgets to eat because he unconsciously taps into Beel's eating, but ,unlike his twin, he doesn't suffer from constant hunger so he often feels full while in reality he hasn't eaten in days

Sirius gave up loving home bc their stand on pure blood,and bc he had James in his life too. Everything he had gave up for James, and yet Order believed he could betray him... Just man how... To me, Sirius giving up his heirship status for new values and a better future is way deeper than James’ effect on him. Yes, James was a solid and effective presence in Sirius’ life but Sirius Black is not someone who changes his views just because of someone else, no matter how codependent. Sirius is open to discussions ( with that sarcastic tongue and sharp wit of his ) and is not biased. We saw it clearly in the flashbacks when James and him met each other in the Hogwarts Express for the first time. James was so fixed on Gryffindor without even considering any other house but Sirius was playful and open despite his family's long history of Slytherins and we saw his sharp wit and biting tongue with Snape, like he didn't miss a bit to put that sarcasm of his into motion. What I mean, here we can see the difference between him and James. Unlike Sirius, James doesn't have the power to wield his tongue like a wand to cut but he has the power of actions, negative or positive. 

So, I get that James’ actions ( positive ones cause he does nothing but positivity when it comes to Sirius ♡ ) probably had affected a big deal, but Sirius has a Slytherin mentality plus his Gryffindor values. A lot of people probably disagree with me but I think that's what makes Sirius so interesting. Personally I think that no matter how much the Blacks hated Sirius’ house in Hogwarts, they still had high hopes for Sirius because let us face it, a Slytherin mentality + Gryffindor values and bravery equals a terrifying force of nature in one person.

Speaking of the Blacks, like many others, I also HC that Sirius was an adored child and was treated way differently than Regulus. Of course, both of them had the best of everything and their homeschooling before Hogwarts was top notch but Sirius was the apple of Walburga's eye. The difference between them was subtle, like proud nods Walburga gave Sirius when he came up with witty comebacks or sublime smiles when he shined bright among the younger generation of the Black family. Personally, I think Sirius was way more similar to Walburga. I mean, true, it is mostly HC but I can imagine that Sirius was a male version of Walburga in every aspect perfectly and that is why they clashed. I think they perfectly understood each other's values but they didn't understand why the other was wasting their talent/status/skill with the said values. 

Although, being an adored child in the House of Black is different than other families. It was mentioned about James in the book that he had an aura of a well-cared and adored child but there was no such thing about Sirius despite him being an heir to one of the most important wizarding families. I think etiquette was very important in the Black family and showing love was subtle. Like I am sure Walburga would never squeeze Sirius in a bone-crushing hug like Euphemia probably would with James. 

So, I don't think he gave up a loving home ( I absolutely am against the HC of Sirius being abused carnally btw ), I think he gave up an accepting home if he remained on the same page with his family because despite that Slytherin mentality I mentioned, Gryffindor traits ( and friends *read James Potter* ) would not let Sirius’ passion to settle into a type of loving home that the House of Black offered.

I think that the Order was not fond of Sirius, both the first Order ( which was kinda better, I imagine, because there was their school generation and marauders gang) and the second one. I am not sure if it was because of his family or what, but in the first Order we see the tragedy of James’ death and how easily they believe it was Sirius without a trial and in the second we see the whole mental weight of being on the run and the members’ bitter sarcasm towards Sirius and ngl, I don't understand how they thought Sirius would betray James.

To me, Sirius Black and James Potter are a love story. A beautiful love story that could have had a happily ever after but sadly most true love stories are tragic tales. They died young and unfulfilled, without a chance to experience the joy of a life without war or even a simple stress-free moment. James had to go in hiding with all that Adrenaline in his veins and waste away and Sirius had to stay away and then lament on why he had changed the secret keeper plan. Prongsfoot is a heartbreaking tale of what could have beens. 🥺

Her brown eyes held his stare and for a moment, she was transported to their youth. For a moment, she was the young girl who had snuck into her first Ring of Honor show, staring at a future she wanted as Phil went to battle with Scott. Dia had so much she wanted to say to Phil, but instead she glanced at the black combat boots she wore, trying not to blush, "I...you look good too."

Phil's hand moved from her left shoulder to raise Dia's chin, taking control of the moment to make her hold his gaze, "I missed you, Di."

AAH TOPHER ANALYSIS!!!

Ithink that Topher's mentality is very well summarized in "I am always right and I am always the good one" because he takes this "woke" mindset and tries to be the best person possible, to the point that he changed his identity so as not to be recognized as one of the worst historical figures, and those are good actions, not being a person with a conservative mentality is good, and I don't think that deep down Topher doesn't believe what he says , I just think that his true desire Is to be loved by others, and the way he tries to achieve it is by being an ally to as many causes as possible, is something he puts so much effort and so much attention that it ends up being something artificial/fake, because he doesn't really wants to be someone educated on those topics, he wants to be seen as a good person and good people are aware of the bad things in this world and do everything possible to change it!!

also it's an easy way to get people's support, and taking into account everything that happened to Abe in ep 1 s2 I'm not surprised that Topher took that path, but Topher is someone intense who gets angry easily and shows the worst of him when he's angry, so those traits of him along with his "woke" mentality only end up making him a hypocrite, because while he goes around shouting that everyone deserves respect, as soon as he gets into an online fight he reaches the point of MAKING THE OTHER PERSON CRY, and he doesn't hesitate to do horrible actions in order to get what he wants

He makes himself seem like a good person, and he says all these things worrying about the problems in the world, but he really doesn't care that much, and that's what's missing, his interest, but what really matters to him is If people like him

I was listening to this song and thinking about Topher, then I remembered that the other day I saw that he is on the villain wiki and I think that's interesting

like, in his introduction he said he doesn't want to be associated with columbus because he is cancelled for being a dirt bag, and that's why he changed his whole identity, because he wants to be a good person

but he isn't a good person, hes an hypocrite, and he's rude with abe even though he was the only person that gave him and opportunity

and he isn't even capable of seeing that, he thinks the bad thing about him is being the clone of a horrible person, but he's just a clone and , as far as I remember, no one has judged the clones for their clone parents

(note?: also I think it's interesting that in the main cast Topher is the only one whose clone parent is known for doing atrocities, but there are background clones like Ivan the terrible so he's not alone )

so yeah, it's not his fault being a clone, but his decisions ARE HIS fault, he's not bad because he's the clone of a colonizer, he wasn't the one who did all those things, and it's not like the other clones exclude him or judge him for that, he's bad because he does bad things like the black mailing, he made jfk cry, he screamed at his mom and he screamed at Abe when he just wanted to do something fun with him!

What are your personal thoughts on Jackson still having kanima traits, Prince? I've seen a few people remark that it "doesn't make sense" but I personally disagree

I think it is good storytelling on the part of Teen Wolf and an excellent statement on the nature of psychological trauma.

You have to remember that Jackson didn't become the kanima because he chose to become it. He didn't become the kanima because Derek wanted him to become it. Derek didn't Bite him in the wrong spot or on the wrong night. Jackson became the kanima because of the sum of his experiences: the shape you take reflects the person that you are.

Yes, Lydia's declaration of her love helped Jackson recover his identity before it had been completely subsumed by the kanima transformation (most likely coupled with the power of her voice). Yet, Lydia didn't erase the first 17 years of Jackson's life. She didn't undo the death of his biological parents, his reaction to learning he was adopted, and the intervening six years between discovering that secret and taking the Bite. Every event which caused Jackson to have a psychological mindset which led to the kanima transformation still happened.

Of course, his shape would still reflect the person that he was, even 15 years later.

While there were many times when the production veered away from strict realism -- and that's not a bad thing -- I truly appreciate that they didn't try to avoid the consequences of emotional damage. Derek may have gotten better at learning when to trust other people, and Peter may have made an effort to care for others as much as he cared for himself, but the Hale fire still marked them. Stiles may have confronted his own negative self-image, imposed upon him by his mother's dementia and the nogitsune, but he's always going to have certain reactions due to those things happening. And so on.

Though that is why I was outraged and disappointed when the production decided that Mason wouldn't have any "after effects" of being the host for the Beast, because he was too black, I mean, too good. It was just lazy and racist, and the production knew better. I still wish they hadn't abandoned their convention that an individual who has undergone something terrible and traumatic -- which included most of the cast -- wasn't ever going to be able to remove those things completely from their psyche. No one can.

But, here is where the excellent statement comes in: Teen Wolf's position was that no amount of emotional damage indelibly defines the character of a human being. As Allison said in Motel California: there's always hope. Embodied in the show's lead protagonist, Scott McCall, who endured disappointment, assault, betrayal, and death yet still managed to become someone who helped others and cared enough to help others. And as befits his leadership, this was recreated in the other characters. Derek, Peter, Liam, Stiles, Lydia, Allison, Malia, Hayden, Corey, Theo and yes, even Jackson became better people, stronger people, and they did it without the miracle of banishing what they had endured in the past.

Jackson, as a character, is probably always going to be a little self-centered, fiercely competitive, and insecure about his identity, which means he's probably always going to have paralytic venom and a tail, but it's also clear that he is no longer seeking a master in order to become someone's scaled murder machine. He didn't have to become flawless in order to become better.

And that, I feel, is a very positive message to send.

The Barista and the Boy Wonder

A/N: No warnings for this one, just want to write something short and sweet. English is not my first language so please excuse spelling and grammatical mistakes. All characters are 18+.

I had been coming to this coffee shop for months, every day, I would swing by for my usual black coffee, and every day, she would be there behind the counter, her beautiful smile lighting up the room. She always seemed to be in such a positive mood, no matter what challenges she was facing. It was a trait that I found truly endearing, comforting even.

All I need to do is order a black coffee and I always leave with a lingering smile on my face.

I couldn't help but feel a connection to her, and I found myself coming to the coffee shop more and more often, just to get a chance to talk to her, or even just to hear her say my name. Even as I patrolled the streets of Gotham, my mind kept drifting back to her. I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something that drew me to her like a magnet.

It wasn't until I saw her feeding the stray cats during her break that every single atom in my body fell into place, screaming that she’s the one. It was a small, quiet moment, yet it spoke volumes about the kind of person she is.

That moment I knew I had to approach her. I couldn't resist the opportunity.

"Hey there," I called out as I approached her. "What are you doing?"

She looked up at me and smiled, her eyes sparkling in the sunlight. "Just feeding these stray cats. They're always around here and I feel bad for them."

I knelt down beside her and helped her distribute the food. "That's really kind of you."

She shrugged, looking down at the cats. "It's just something small I can do to make a difference."

As I looked at her, I felt my heart swell with admiration and affection. She was an amazing person, kind and caring, and I knew that I am falling for her.

Yet there was something else behind her words, her unusual smile as well as her wandering eye.

“Something wrong?” I can’t help but tense at the prospect of problem.

"I'm just worried about one of the cats," she said, a crease forming between her eyebrows. She quickly fished out her phone and showed me a black kitten with white paws. "Mr. Mittens, I haven't seen him in a few days, and he's usually always around. I’ve been looking for him all over this block and some more."

"Don't worry, I'm sure he's just fine. Maybe he found a new food source or something." But my mind is already thinking of a thousand ways to find ‘Mr. Mittens’.

She looked up at me, her eyes full of concern. "I hope you're right. I just can't shake the feeling that something might have happened to him."

“I frequent these streets, why don’t I keep an eye open and inform you if I saw him and if he’s in danger, well, I am sure I can figure something out to save him.” I can indeed.

She smiled up at me, her worry seeming to ease slightly. "Thank you, Damian. I really appreciate it."

The batcave computer had seen hundreds if not thousands of searches, its screen trawling through the endless streets of Gotham. Both it and I are no slouch when it comes to finding a criminal, missing person, or crimes in action. Not so much a kitten.

After a sleepes night, I finally got a lead. It seems our black furry friend slipped inside a bakery delivery van and had not returned since then. Once I tracked the truck and its owner, a father of three, and judging by his son’s latest social media post Mr. Mittens is in safe hands and is now called Coco.

I couldn't help but feel a mix of relief and sadness. On one hand, I was happy to know that the kitten was safe and loved. On the other hand, I knew that the girl would be disappointed that her furry friend was no longer around.

But I knew that I had to tell her the truth, so I made my way to the coffee shop and found her behind the counter, looking worried as usual.

"I have some news about the missing cat," I said, pulling out my phone and showing her the picture I had taken of the cat with its new family. "I found out that it's been adopted by a family a few blocks away. They're taking good care of it and it looks really happy."

The girl looked at the picture and a smile slowly spread across her face. "That's great news, Damian. I'm so glad to know that Mr.Mittens is safe and loved."

I couldn't help but feel a warmth in my chest at her words. I was just happy to be able to do something to make her smile. And as we stood there, looking at the picture of the cat with its new family, I knew that I was falling even more in love with the girl by my side.

I grinned, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "I'm glad you're happy.”

She reached out and squeezed my hand. "Thank you for finding out what happened to it. You're the best.” She grinned, “Needless to say, this week’s coffee on me, so knock yourself out.”

I laughed in return still insisting for her to take my card, but she raised her hand in defiance, “What you just did meant a lot to me, and I wish I could get you free coffee for life, sadly it won’t fly with my manager.”

“Even a lifetime of coffee won’t cover my investigation fee.”

She feigned a gasp, “Oh no, what could I do then to repay thai lifelong debt?”

“How about a date?”

“A date it is.” She handed me my cup of black coffee, her number written on it.

I had always thought that love was something that I could never have, being the son of Batman and all. But as it turns out, even the toughest of heroes can fall head over heels for the right person. And for me, that person was my pretty barista.

this will be a doozy. i know i said i wouldn't write an essay but apparently i lied. i will be talking about religion, ocd, death (murder), and sexual thoughts, so proceed with caution. while i can offer some personal insight, i am not an expert, just a psych student with too much time on her hands!

one thing that sticks out to me is the pattern of grace's behaviors and how they are rewarded. this is the main thesis of fencecollapsed's video about her, and i highly recommend checking them and that video out. grace follows her moral code, and ends up "saving the day".

we see this in abstinence camp, where she maintains her chastity throughout the video, and ends up being able to save pete&steph & camp because of it. her ritualistic behavior, ie. maintaining her chastity, is reinforced by doing good in her eyes. an example that comes to mind is grace and wearing a bathing suit at all times. if she wears the bathing suit, she will stay pure, and god won't punish her. she keeps engaging in that behavior because it works, it alleviates her anxiety, and it becomes an obsession.

in npmd, there is more of a focus on religious ocd. when grace is confronted by the cops because of what happened to max, she panics. she doesn't know whether she did what god told / wanted her to do. she has this moment of cognitive dissonance, where she realized she acted on an intrusive thought (killing max), but she believed she was doing a good thing (ridding the world of a sexual bully). so, she doubles down. she settles for killing max one more time in order to maintain her previous obsession - that max is better off dead because it will better the world, and save pete&steph in the process. once the deal with the lords in black has been made, she is fine doing one bad thing to do god's (her) original plan correctly. when we grace move onto the next victim, she is driven to murder, like a compulsion. her obsession of making the world pure was rewarded when she saved the world by killing max, so doing it again is the only way to feel at ease, as resisting compulsions can be difficult.

i have intrusive thoughts, and grace canonically gets them too. while intrusive thoughts aren't explicitly caused by ocd, it can be a component. grace repeatedly has unwanted sexual thoughts in npmd. max makes advances towards her, she hates it, but she can't get the sexual images and thoughts out of her head. she is disgusted with herself, not knowing why she thinks and feels that way. this ruminates into her killing max, because it's the only way she can "fix" her thoughts.

in conclusion, i believe grace chasity could have ocd. she shows ritualistic behaviors through always wearing bathing suits, has obsessions about purity and has various compulsive acts to get rid of that fact, and has sexual intrusive thoughts. all of these symptoms do somewhat point to ocd. this is just a headcanon, and i want to say that having these traits does not mean you have ocd. please contact a medical professional if something strongly resonates with you. for the national suicide and crisis hotline in the united states, call 988. take care of yourself <3

An account of the after-meeting in the Professor's office, concerning Mecha and a certain Amiibo

This is, as far as I can make it out to be, a summary of the short meeting following a spatial and dimensional incident in the professor's office that resulted in him, Mecha, and some others becoming involved in an effort to stop a parallel universe from being erased.

As soon as the portly, well-dressed man bid farewell, Cosmo activated one of his many transportation spells and stepped through it into the confines of his office, clutching Mecha, his student's exams, and a troublesome Luigi-shaped amiibo. The transition was successful, and he found himself back in his office, no worse for wear aside from the mess on his desk and the oddly cleaner space where the black hole, shrinking down to nothing rapidly, had been.

The Luigi amiibo vibrated gently, catching Cosmo's attention. Gently, he set it down on the edge of the desk, eyeing it with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. He motioned to Mecha, offering her a drink to ease the tension of their recent ordeal.

Mecha, her helmet de-digitizing to reveal her stern yet tired face, sighed heavily. "After all that bother, a Silverhand would be decent to have right now. Unless you know how to make a Cosmo Canyon?" she said, flopping into the guest chair opposite the wizard.

Cosmo smirked. "It shares my name, I'll have to learn how to make one," he replied, noting down the drink's instructions on a piece of shale. "Should be up in a few minutes."

His attention returned to the Luigi amiibo, which seemed to show signs of life as he lightly scolded it for the issues it had caused. A hologram projection emerged from the amiibo, forming a rough vroid model of a feminine figure. The Lulz, as it introduced itself, apologized for the trouble and offered an explanation.

Cosmo and Mecha listened intently as Lulz revealed its identity as a manifestation of multiple individuals, split into different identities representing various traits, and yet also that they were, in fact, the original. It explained the existence of a counterpart, Lulz Prime, and the dangers posed by its instability.

As the conversation unfolded, Cosmo realized the gravity of the situation. They had prevented a potential catastrophe, but the implications of Lulz's existence were profound. Lulz spoke of retrieving its lost possessions scattered across the multiverse, seeking to regain control of its fragmented identity.

Cosmo proposed using a banishment spell to send Lulz back to its original plane of existence. After a moment's hesitation, Lulz agreed, and Cosmo cast the spell, watching as Lulz disappeared with a faint popping noise. The plan was to hold concentration for half a minute, just in case the place the Lulz was sent was NOT, in fact, where they belonged.

Thirty seconds later, Lulz returned, clattering back onto the table with renewed vigor. It expressed gratitude and a desire to stay under their care, seeking assistance in regaining its lost identity. The banishment was, in fact, successful-- but in order to actually stay there, to return to where the Lulz belonged, they would need to re-collect themselves. They were a long way from home, and with their memories regained after the strange Lulz singularity last year, there was a question of existentiality to be asked and answered.

Cosmo and Mecha discussed the logistics of Lulz's stay, considering its illusory form and limited capabilities. Cosmo, in a flash of curiosity, slipped a ring of Mage Hand off his own finger and placed it around the outstretched arm of the Luigi amiibo whence the Lulz hologram emitted. This, both miraculously and hilariously, gave the Lulz the ability to access the cantrip, carrying the amiibo around to afford them locomotion around the campus.

As they discussed the next steps, Lulz experimented with its newfound ability, testing the limits of the Mage Hand spell. Mecha chimed in, recounting her own experiences with dimensional travel and offering her expertise to aid Lulz's research.

Despite the challenges ahead, Cosmo and Mecha felt a sense of excitement at the prospect of assisting Lulz in their quest for identity. It was settled that Mecha would have a space in the basement of the tower, and that Lulz's student enrollment paperwork would be processed immediately-- before Cosmo had to go and talk to the headmaster to offer explanations.

So I read the third Magirevo novel (it was a very quick read, especially when you skim the parts that are just repeating things it already said which is uuuuh about half of it! Yeah unfortunately the prose has not gotten better) because I knew the final arc didn't get a lot of of time and I was curious to see what got cut out and honestly...not much of value.

There's an additional conversation with Euphie's mother (she exists in the novels!) and Anis' mother, which does show us Anis' mom is genuinely worried about her daughter and realizes she was wrong to put so much pressure on her and is even hoping she'll continue to work on magicology even after becoming Queen (also that Lainie's figured out how to use her brainwashing powers as an anti anxiety med if the target gives consent, which is interesting) and that Euphie's mom...exists, but it doesn't give us any new information or emotional insight that wasn't covered in the anime.

In fact, I mostly have a list of things I'm glad they changed or left out!

-For some reason this book is super into Tomas the Blacksmith, who's has only just been introduced and also doesn't have any personality traits? The scene where Tilty comforts Anis and suggests they ditch this stupid place and make a living as hot conwomen is entirely anime original, instead we get a very boring scene where the blacksmith who has no reason to care about royal spirit pacts or her gf troubles comforts her. So yes, I think the anime made a very good decision in having a touching scene with a character the audience might actually be fond of instead.

We also get a way too extended scene on how they collaborate with Tomas to make the magic dresses, I cannot imagine why the author thinks I would care about this. I guess it's to show Anis has a genuine bond with people of other classes, but they could have used an actually interesting character for that.

-Euphie's arguing with Anis is super repetitive over the queen vs immortal contractor thing in the novel, and Anis is weirdly childish during their duel, screaming "I hate you" at her several times like she's a five year old yelling at Mom which is just jarring considering the stakes and all.

-The duel also comes off as much more brutal, like Anis literally mentions she's going to hit Euphie with the same attack that seriously injured VampireAl and it could kill her and...why???? That makes no sense you're literally having this fight to protect her. Calm down!!!

-For some reason, when Euphie tells Anis she's not a fake, in the book she straddles her and starts shaking her while she's pinned down to the bed (I guess she's jerking her up and down?) Imagine how incredibly awkward it would have looked if the anime copied this, I'm so glad they didn't. The straddling should come later! It takes away the impact of when she pins her to the bed actually romantically!

-Then Euphie accidentally drains Anis' magical energy when they make out with her new super spirit powers and Anis passes out, which is such a dumb ending to a romantic moment, thank god the anime cut that shit. I don't understand why it was there. Did the author just not know how to fade to black?

-In the novel, Anis is the one who orders the sword and names it, rather than it being a sweet gesture from Euphie. The anime is doing so much work here.

-In the novel, for some reason Euphie and Anis decide to battle it out in the sky instead of just dancing- I'd be neutral on this, they're clearly having fun and this is the shit they're into, you do you girls, and it does have the incredibly funny moment where Anis goes "and then Euphie dropkicked me." Except the light novel takes forever to describe it and I ended up skimming over it. How long were they up there. If I were the townspeople I'd be yelling that I did not consent to being part of this bourgeoisie kink display and want to go home. Also when you remember they're both wearing heels there is such a possibility of one of those falling off and beaning someone in the head and killing them.

Things I thought were interesting/was neutral on:

-The anime does leave out some stuff in Lumi's backstory, namely that her father, the king who made the original spirit contract, did so to save the kingdom but eventually became a cruel, horrific ruler due to his emotions withering away, and Lumi had to kill her own dad to stop him. Lumi also shows more of cruel streak herself. I don't think the anime needed this, the whole immortality and emotions fading thing was enough to show there were consequences to the spirit contract, and it kinda makes Euphie look wildly irresponsible she'd risk becoming a despotic ruler. (However, Lumi does say she knows it won't happen to Euphie because Anis is there.) It is an interesting bit of lore though, and the novel leans more heavily on the theme that magic is pretty dangerous and terrible.

-Anis mentions in the novel that thinking she was fake is part of why she didn't tell Al about the rumors or why she left- she was afraid the nobles were catching on to how she was 'wrong' somehow and thought Al would notice too. I thought that was interesting and gave some more context to her actions.

-Tilty walks in on Anis and Euphie in bed together, and is like 'well well well' which was admittedly pretty funny, though it just became too much when Lumi also hopped in. Give them some privacy.

-This was fairly obvious anyway, but since we get Anis' POV the novel confirms her 'you were just kissing me on the lips out of friendship weren't you' was because she thought it was too good to be true. Also she just seems to like arguing for the sake of it, which Euphie points out to her.

All in all the anime is definitely the best way to experience the story. of the first three novels. The novels have too laden with repetition, unneeded exposition and poor pacing, the manga is also occasionally bogged down my exposition too and overall way skeevier, but the anime knows what's important about the story and what changes to make to make it shine. Though I do believe the anime team would have added some good original content if they'd had some extra room, pretty much everything it cut from the novel was not necessary.
