1276 - 1492: Cazador Szarr the Avid - Elf - Vampire Lord

I. First, thou shalt not drink of the blood of thinking creatures. II. Second, thou shalt obey me in all things. III. Third, thou shalt not leave my side unless directed. IV. Fourth, thou shalt know that thou art mine.

Note: Kozakuran language (from Kara-Tur) was forbidden for Cazador's Spawns to learn.

Cazador seems to be in a rivalry with this Vampire Lord, based on the letter you can find in Cazador's Corner.

Cazador's Seven Spawn:

Aurelia - Tiefling

Likely the oldest Spawn, due to being one level higher than the rest if you examine her stats.

Astarion Ancunín - Elf

Astarion states he was one of Cazador's first Spawn. Not the first, but one of the first. This implies there was at least one Spawn created before him.

Former Magistrate in Baldur's Gate.

Born 1261 DR. Turned 1300 DR. Kills Cazador in 1492 DR.

Astarion was 15 years old when Cazador killed Vellioth and took over as the Vampire Master of Baldur's Gate. He was 39 when he became a Spawn. Astarion is 231 during the events of the game and when he kills Cazador. This means he had been a Spawn for 192 years during the game.

Petras refers to Astarion as a "runt" and "the runt of the litter" when you find him and Dalyria while playing the origin Astarion run. This ties into my theory that Astarion, despite being one of Cazador's first Spawn, was deemed the Scapegoat within their vampiric family. This also goes into my other theory that all of the Spawn, to some degree, participated in each other's abuse; be it actively, such as how Petras and Astarion seemed to have a mutually verbally abusive relationship, or passively, by simply not speaking up or trying to show too much fondness for one another, as a means to try and gain greater favor with Cazador.

Violet - Elf

States in her diary that she put garlic in Yousen's bed as a prank because he was a "whining runt", which caused him to break out in a rash.

Unsure if she's older or younger than Yousen, despite refering to him as a runt. Astarion is also referred to as a runt by Petras, though its inferred that Astarion is older than Petras.

Leon worried most about Violet harming Victoria, based on his diary.

Yousen - Gnome

Astarion seems to be racist against Gnomes, based on dialogue suggesting he views gnomes as animals and in how he gives backhanded compliments to a gnome Tav.

In Act 1, after he bites Tav, if you tell him to only drink from animals, he asks: "I mean, elves and humans are obviously out, but goblins? Kobolds? Gnomes?"

Astarion expresses distaste at the idea of saving Nere just for the sake of saving the gnome slaves trapped with him, if Tav talks to him and mentions the idea.

It's unknown if Astarion's dislike and dehumanization of gnomes existed before Yousen became a Spawn or if this developed due to consistent negative interactions with Yousen over their centuries being forced to play brothers. Either way, it's him generalizing and discriminating an entire race, and that should still be recognized as problematic.

Dalyria - Elf

Former Physician General to the Parliament of Baldur's Gate.

Believed that vampirism was some sort of blood disorder that could be cured.

Seems to be close to Petras, or at least close enough to actually have a visceral reaction when Astarion puts Petras in the sunlight. This may be because they're close in age, though its unknown if she or Petras is older of the two.

It could be argued she's fairly young due to the fact that, when you play origin Astarion, she seems to genuinely believe that they're all a family. She's far more vocal about the idea of family, telling Astarion "I can't believe you'd turn on us! On your own family!" if he attempts violence towards Petras. This could potentially showcase her naivety and gullibility of being a younger Spawn not yet fully experienced with the full breadth of Cazador's cruelty or her lack of experience truly competing with the other Spawn for her own self-preservation.

Pale Petras - Human

Around 100 years in age, deduced by his dialogue with Dalyria where he states he's had to feed on rats and dogs for 100 years.

Leon Onufrio - Human

Sorcerer. Based on various journals and notes in the palace, Leon was still able to cast magic; deduced by the fact he cast a spell to protect Victoria so as to make attempting to feed from her unappealing to the other Spawn.

Has been a Spawn at least 6 years.

Was the Favored Spawn for 5 out of the recent 6 years. Violet claimed the spot for one year.

Victoria - Human · Child, Daughter of Leon. · Dalyria's journal claims that Victoria is still "pureblood", implying Victoria is still fully Human and not a Dhampir, hence her wanting to use Victoria's blood as a potential cure. Leon's journal also states that Cazador forced Leon to bring Victoria with him to the palace after Leon had been turned, implying she hadn't been turned. · Cazador weaponized her safety as a method to maintain control over Leon. · If you use Speak with Dead on Victoria's body in the guest room, she claims she was an orphaned child who had been lured by Dalyria before she was killed. · Leon's journal reveals he had been making plans with Figaro to disguise and sneak Victoria out of Cazador's clutches. It can be deduced that he succeed and swapped his daughter with the orphan Dalyria had lured, and somehow enchanted or disguised her to look like Victoria.

Amanita Szarr / Lady Incognita

Cazador's niece who was forcibly turned into a vampire. Her entries claim that Cazador personally summoned her.

Her various entries begin in 1477, when she was 13. Astarion was turned in 1300 DR, so he would have been alive during these events and would have been aged 216. Which means this occurred 15 years before the game.

Wrote a journal detailing that the blood diseases Red Thrombosis and Thandals Paroxsym could give a vampire a brief illness if they ingest infected blood. She also states a vampire could train themselves to recognize infected prey by scent before biting them.

Fandom creators tag game

1. What sort of content do you create, and what is the thing you’ve made that you’re most proud of?

I write stories. Strictly fanfic only; I don’t think I’m quite brave enough to try writing my own stuff. I’m trying to learn how to draw, but I’m a bit too much of a perfectionist so it’s slow going. I’m quite proud of my first CW Supergirl fanfic, make this place your home. I didn’t think people would like it so much.

2. What fandom(s) do you create for?

I’ve only posted things for CW Supergirl, and it’s just the one story plus a oneshot series for Supercorptober. But I’ve tried my hand at a couple other fandoms, namely Assassin’s Creed and Marvel’s X-23. But those aren’t fully fleshed out, more like writing exercises.

3. What is your current favourite ship (or brotp if you prefer), and how controversial is it?

Supercorp. Not sure if it’s controversial? Doesn’t feel like it.

4. For your answer to question 3, are they canon?

THEY ARE CANON IN MY HEART. Seriously though, they’re not explicitly canon on the TV series itself, but I know they were confirmed in the Batwoman comic by the writer.

5. What was your first fandom, and how old were you?

I know it’s controversial now, but the first fandom I really got obsessed with was Harry Potter. I grew up with those books, so since I was around 10, I guess? I’m not quite brave enough to get into fanfic writing for that fandom though, both because of the controversy and because the people over there can be kind of mean from what I’ve seen in comments. I’m sure it’s not everyone, but the Supercorp fandom has been so nice and I think I’m a bit spoiled.

6. What is your most unhinged fandom creation to date?

I haven’t written a lot, but maybe it’s the Spice Girls oneshot for my Supercorptober series? Or maybe the vigilante prompt for the same series, the one where Kara’s an office lunch thief. Idk.

7. Do you remember what started you off creating fandom content, and if so, what was it?

I first started watching Supergirl when it first started, but I fell out of it after S2. Then I got back into it during the lockdowns in 2020, smack in the middle of the big rift, and that was that.

8. Do you let people you know in real life see your fandom creations?

Nope. No one in real life knows.

9. How do you feel about fanworks of fanworks? Has anyone ever made something based on a thing you made?

I love it! I’ve received two pieces of fanworks, both from @thatonebirdwrites, who also tagged me in this game! I wish I could return the favor, but again, I’m not quite confident enough for that. Maybe in the future.

10. What feeling do you most often try to evoke with your creations?

I find that in canon stories, there’s a lot of handwaving over little details in a way that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. Like in CW’s Supergirl, there’s a lot of vague science and plotholes that drive me crazy. I’m a scientist, so I like trying to infuse my work with realism, and I like making things make sense, if that makes sense lol. I think that goes for both character motivations and for things in the world I write. I usually end up with lots of background information that never makes into the story, but I feel like it makes the story stronger when I find the opportunity to weave it in. Tl;dr, I try to make the world and the characters feel real and grounded.

11. Has someone ever paid your work a compliment (in any form) that has stuck with you, and what was it?

In the same vein as the previous question, a few people have said they enjoy my worldbuilding and storytelling, so that’s lovely.

12. What’s your favourite thing someone else has made that you’ve seen in the last 24 hours (and link it if you can find it again!)

In the last 24 hours? I think it might be an older Supercorp art piece with Kara and Lena snuggled up together with a cat. It was reblogged by @fazedlight under #vintage supercorp, which is awesome because I wasn’t on tumblr at the time a lot of fan stuff was circulating.

13. Give a small sneak preview of something you’re working on right now (eg a couple of sentences of fic from a WIP, a gif set theme, a small piece of a larger picture, whatever you feel happy to share)

Kara’s eyes opened when Lena jerked away. Jess was standing in the doorway, an amused, uncomfortable smile on her face. “Miss Luthor, the Danvers are here.”

“Right.” Lena straightened up, discreetly wiping at her mouth with the back of her hand. “We just need five minutes, then you can let them in.”

“Of course.”

Jess shut the door behind her, and Lena stood, clearing out the debris from lunch, and Kara started to help. “Are you upset that Jess saw us?”

Lena chuckled. “Not upset, no. A little embarrassed, maybe; kissing isn’t exactly a workplace activity, after all.”

Kara’s brow furrowed “Should we not do it here, then?” she asked, trying to get a firm grasp on what things were and were not allowed in terms of physical affection. For all that humans enjoyed it, it seemed there were a lot of rules surrounding what was and wasn’t appropriate in different places.

“No, no.” Lena smiled. “It’s fine. Besides, I think Jess will knock from now on.”

“Okay.”

Excerpt from an in-progress medieval omegaverse Supercorp AU:

“Might I cut in for the next dance?”

Lena turned. The clumsy blonde alpha from Krypton was standing there, a hopeful smile on her face. Edge turned as well, chest puffing up at the younger alpha as he exuded dominating pheromones. The Kryptonian straightened but remained perfectly civil. The music had ended, and Lena gladly took the opportunity to step away from the scowling Morgan Edge. “Certainly, my lord.” She cut her eyes back to Edge. “Duke Edge.”

Ignoring his grunted reply, she let the Kryptonian alpha take her hand, and oh, that felt nice. Lena’s hand just fit into the alpha’s warm, not-at-all-clammy one. Lena’s brow furrowed. That, combined with the blonde’s fairly pretty features and her refreshing scent, had Lena’s omega perking its head up.

It was annoying.

She allowed the Kryptonian to lead her back to the dance floor as the musicians started. “Lord Zor-El, is it?”

“Kara, please.” The alpha – Kara – settled her hand on her waist, leading them into an easy waltz. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lady Luthor.”

14. Have you ever seen/read anything made by the person who tagged you? If so, what was it and what was your favourite thing about it? (pick a favourite if there are several)

Yes! I’ve just caught up on the Shared Moments series by @thatonebirdwrites! It’s a Korrasami rewrite of The Legend of Korra, and the worldbuilding and lore is absolutely world-class; the changes they made to canon are so imaginative and so well thought out. It’s in progress, and I can’t wait to read more.

15. Do you leave comments on fandom works, and if so how would you describe your comment style?

I try, but I’m not very good at doing it consistently. It’s hypocritical, I know, considering how much I appreciate every comment I receive. But I’m trying to do better.

16. How many works in progress do you currently have? Will you finish them all?

I only have one fic that’s currently being posted, but I’ve got another Supercorp fic in the works (see sneak peek above). I have other ideas waiting, but those are probably the main ones. I’m definitely finishing make this place your home, and I do hope to finish my other ideas. There just never seems to be enough time.

17. what’s the longest it’s ever taken you to finish a fandom project?

I haven’t finished any! Not unless Supercorptober counts, and I finished that in the requisite month, by some kind of miracle. Make this place your home has been going for over a year and I really hope to have it done before it reaches two.

18. Describe the thing you made most recently in a way that is technically true, but also completely misleading. Link the thing if it’s published!

19. Do you ever engage with fanworks for a fandom you’re not in? Which one(s) and how did you get into it?

I guess not? I find it hard to read fanfics if I don’t know the background, let alone write for it.

20. Recommend a fan work from your fandom to your followers

Not sure I have any followers lol. I think one of my favorite fics is The Science Guild by dreiser, which is one of the inspirations I had for a more science-y Kara. It went dormant for a few years but it miraculously updated a couple of weeks ago. But I also want to recommend Confession by TheBirdWrites, which is an absolutely fantastic. I’m still catching up on the sequel fic, Unraveling Realities, and it’s still ongoing, but it’s so good.

I know it’s not great to be a dead end for a tag game, but I don’t really have any mutuals because I’m too shy to follow people, let alone tag them. I did have fun answering this though :)

I noticed you really like woman of tomorrow, and after seeing it get announced for the adaptation, I just kinda got confused. See, I read it, but it felt really cynical to me? I don't mean it is, and I definitely don't mean to diss a book you like! I just wanted to know , well, if you could explain to me why you liked it, maybe I'm missing something! I think a fresh perspective would help me try and get into it again!

Oh, hey, no worries! While it is true that I love Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, I also recongize that it's not going to work for everyone.

Personally, I really dig it for several reasons, first and foremost being that I love Bilquis Evely's art (which I first discovered via Sugar & Spike: Metahuman Investigations—definitely recommend checking that comic out!) and Mat Lopes' colors. Evely drew a Silver Age Kara in Sugar & Spike and I was like, 'you know what? She'd absolutely crush it on a Supergirl book.' And she did! From the gorgeous space dragon splash pages in issue two to the lovely expression work throughout, all rendered in her incredibly precise inks and expertly colored by Lopes, it's just. So. So good. (I couldn't find a pic of the space dragon saved on my phone but here's one of Kara and Comet outrunning the Mordru Globe, equally stunning.)

And I dig the writing as well! The way I read it, this is Kara on like. The absolute worst day(s). She's seeing the worst the universe has to offer with Krem and the Brigands and it's dredging up all these reminders of her own trauma, and yet! She endures, and even more than that, all that darkness and sadness doesn't ever snuff out her kindness and compassion.

Apologies but I'm gonna spoil one of the pages from the end of the run because 1.) it conveniently highlights a lot of the panels/points I'd share anyways, so it's very efficient XD and 2.) I think it just...it perfectly sums up Kara's true heroism? Which is not just in the big superhero fights and the cool powers but also in those smaller moments, of just helping people and being there for them, when they need it:

(Like my absolute favorite line? In the whole book? Is Ruthye telling Kara: Or in that town where I saw true evil. And I felt eternally lost, and you let me lean on your shoulder and you put an arm around me, pulling me back until I was found. That's just. Some top-tier Supergirl writing, IMO.)

Tl; dr: Woman of Tomorrow is definitely not for everyone BUT, I think King really does understand the core of who Kara is and as such! Those character moments really shine in this book.

Superhero media and art shouldn't be made by oppressors, me thinks.

TL;DR: Please let poc, disabled and queer people make superhero art.

With all the recent announcements made about Superman: Legacy and people asking for Greta Gerwig to direct the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film - I've been thinking about how much I wish more superhero art was made by disabled, poc and queer people.

Don't get me wrong I love Gerwig's and Gunn's work (Peacemaker is one of my favorite tv shows and my final project for my film class was about lady bird lol) but I feel like at the core of characters like Superman, Supergirl, Spider-man, etc. There's this understanding of the struggles of the little guy; there's a reason these characters are such a hit in places like Mexico and icons in trans and queer spaces.

They are defenders of the oppressed, it only makes sense that the oppressed got to create the kind of defender we want. As much as I trust someone like Gerwig to understand the female rage inherent to the character of Kara, I don't expect her to know the tragedy of losing your home, of feeling forced to protect people that would rather see you death. Just like I don't expect Gunn to understand the longing for a home you never knew, the despair that comes from being surrounded by people who look exactly like you but will never be able to fully understand you.

And I specially don't expect them to understand the strength it takes to look at all that and still have hope, to wake up and love a world that hates you. The wonder of superheroes has never been in their feats of strength but in their rejection of the world as it is, the wonder of gently holding you and telling you there's a better tomorrow - one where you and me have a place and live happily.

Time and time we see the need for the voices of the unheard to be broadcasted through this modern day legends, be it Ta-Nehisi Coates excellent work on Black Panther, Cody Ziglar's revolutionary spirit in both Spider-Punk and Spider-Man, Vita Ayala's fun and thought provoking take on Static, Jadzia Axelrod's joyous work Galaxy and so so many more incredible superhero books that are able to get to the core of what they truly are:

Dreams, dreams of the freaks and excluded, dreams of a better tomorrow, dreams of a better world.

And we need these legends to be told in the voices of the opressed, to be communicated in our language and to be transformed by our hope.

Comics this week ?

Spirit World #6 - Bit abrupt but overall a solid ending.

Detective Comics #1076 - I know I said I was dropping the book but when I heard Hurt was showing up I couldn’t stay away. Ram V got me again man.

Supergirl Special #1 - I liked it but it’s very reminiscent of WoT. Patridge kills it on art and Tamaki writes a lot of great moments. Super-Twins bugging Kara for stories about Krypton, Lois surprising Kara with food because she can see Kara is depressed, the final talk between Kara and PG at the end, and the big Superfamily get-together were my favorite parts. Tamaki knows how to write the character which is why it’s a bummer that this isn’t leading into anything.

Ultimate Universe #1 - Positive side is that this was much more interesting than Ultimate Invasion ended up being. Downside is that it ends on one hell of a cliffhanger. DoomReed is probably going to show up in Ultimate Spider-Man and I could see the rest of the Ultimates showing up in Black Panther, but I want an Ultimates book already! Certainly establishes an interesting status quo for 6160 Peter, Aunt May got killed by the Ultimate Illuminati but Tony is the one being blamed. Might we see an initial arc of Peter using his powers to try and hunt Tony down since he blames Tony for her death? Or will DoomReed let him in on what’s what? Of course we also see Tony use the Immortus Engine right before the blast hits so who knows what he was up to. If Norman is really dead that probably means Harry will be the 6160 Green Goblin, and that could be very interesting. My theory is that Harry will be married to either Gwen or Liz in this reality and I think it would be way more interesting if it’s Gwen. We might see Peter/MJ supporting the Ultimates in their war with the Illuminati while Harry/Gwen/Liz are on the other side trying to claw back control of North America for their own benefit.

Dr. Strange #9 - Mysterium is fucking everywhere these days but I dug how it was used in a manner that called back to Strange’s surgeon days. Clea continues to rule, loved her saving her sister and I guess she’s going to be raising her going forward.

Scarlet Witch #10 - Same as Spirit World but more underwhelming. You can tell Orlando had more story he wanted to do and had to cram it into one issue.

Ofc yes let’s see how much I can say that’s interesting

So basically I’m aroace so sexy of me and it’s impossible to find stories that don’t involve romance right? All the animated shows and series (that I love) have some sort of crush or partner or relationship in a way, even if it’s just as simple as a characters’ parents or friend or smth. And that’s cute and lovely and I like romance but there’s more to a plot than that and it can be disheartening when romance is made out to be this big important part of life and yet it’s not a part of yours.

So that’s how my story got started. I basically split up parts of myself into different characters . The main two, Chely and Kara (whom I’ve shared art and stuff of ) are kind of opposites of each other. Chely is allosexual/aromantic, warm colors, tall, grew up on a farm (wow just like how I work on a farm), later got a job at a bakery next door to Kara’s retail job (wow both places I’ve worked). Kara is asexual/alloromantic, short, and cool colors. They live together and support each other on trips to the dentist and other crazy endeavors. They move to a little campground run byyyyyy

Martin who represents love for your community and is crazy passionate about his little campground/rv park but only shows it in a grumpy, gatekeepy old man way. Inspiration for him was drawn from mayor tortimer in animal crossing. The community acts as a temporary to permanent home to a bunch of silly people includinggggg

Red! Who demonstrates self love (along with X who shows it in a different way) through your actions and choices. Red moved away from home and their parent’s expectations to make a new life and just have fun with it!

Also in the community are Suds and her grandchild Esa who represent different types of love for those younger and older than you, the three sisters (whose names I’m a little uncertain of for reasons ) who represent .. love for your siblings, and Mani who shows love for your friends. There’s several more characters who have importance and yet to be developed but these are who I’ve thought out the most :) and they all vibe together in a lovely community as the world is ending. Woo.

Anyway I had no idea how much you wanted from me so uh this is everything. Tl;dr there’s a bunch of silly characters and Chely and Kara are epic and sexy bc they’re just like me .

Y'all ever had the urge to create something random? Yeah, me neither. Anyway, here's Kara running from a horde of Giga Monty (if you haven't seen the last post, all you need to know is that he (Kara) is my main OC). I know this specific art was featured in the last post as well, but hey, this one's something to be proud of for me.

"But wait!", I hear you say. "What is a 'Giga Monty', and why does it look like Montgomery Gator from acclaimed game Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach?" Well, hypothetical reader, a Giga Monty (singular) is actually Spotlight Monty from the "Showtime" sequence of the game. So why's Kara running from them? Because I like to make random scenarios happen that pop up into my brain. And, one warm summer's night in late July of last year, I made this piece. Fun fact about it: It was the first art I made of Kara that I manually posed the hell out of. Earlier arts had me editing the stand pose of the model (for the models I used, a T-pose) into a slightly better pose, giving it a better vibe than just "this art is unfinished, under construction, nothing to see here yet, folks."

Now, what in specific did I edit? Well, here's a better question: what in specific didn't I edit? The pose was built off of a stand pose (I didn't stop using the addon as a base until December), but it's been so built up that you cannot guess that from first glance. I manually posed the fingers into fists, and posed the arms to look like that running pose that you always see on fire exit signs.

However, all that pales, pales, I tell you, in comparison to what I did with the head. Because what I did, I am oh so SO very proud of: I posed the head as looking over his shoulder, and I posed the eyes to do the same.

Now, posing the head's easy talk. You know what you're doing, you can get that puppy to spin 180° Exorcist style while making the creepiest grin possible (actually possible by the way. Facial flexes are weird in GMod).

The hard part is the eyes.

Eyes, by default, cannot be posed. Nope. Mm-mm. Not gonna happen, Cap'n. You need a specific addon, developed and bug-tested by Steam users, to make that one work. The only downside is that the addon I use also appears to be the only eye-related posing tool that actually works. But that's neither here nor there. My problem was trying to get the eyes of the model I used to actually look in the direction I wanted them to look in.

A quirk of the eye posing tool that I use is that it has two modes and methods of function: Mouse1, and E + Mouse1. I know. Shocking difference, right?. Well, you ain't seen nothing yet, kid. Mouse1's function is simple: make the eyes look at a point, focusing on the crosshair of the player's HUD. All that's fine at first, but the only issue is that it's not calibrated for the Octoling model's eyes. In fact, it's not calibrated to any custom model's eyes that are further apart than the eyes of the stock valve_biped model.

Okay, you want an example, right? Let me describe it. So, let's take Dr. Breen's model and pose the eyes using Mouse1. Normal movement. You move the crosshair to the right, he looks right. You move the crosshair left, he looks left, and so on and so forth.

You can't do that for the Octoling models, or the Inkling models, for that matter.

The eyes, they shift as soon as you click Mouse1. And wouldn't you know it, they shift to right where good ol' Dr. Breen's eyes would be. Which means that no, you can't just use the "look at this point" system to pose the eyes.

E + Mouse1, however, that's your bread and butter here. With E + Mouse1, the model doesn't look towards a point, it looks towards the player, which can be creepy. Lifeless eyes, staring deep into your soul, stealing what secrets lie within.

Ahem... sorry about the wall of text. Yeah, it happens with me. Too much long-form content in text format, methinks. Anyway, the point about E+M1 is that through this, Inkling and Octoling eyes can be posed (yay!), and through this feature of the eye mover, I got this art looking the best I possibly could. Granted, my skill has improved since then, but it's good to recognise that you last year is not you today, and it's good to see how your art has gotten better!

Also don't ask me why I chose SCP:SL's LCZ as my background map of choice, I just did.
