HI HELLO SORRY this has been sitting in my inbox for almost a month now. From this post from whatever ago.

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

I’m not sure I can think of a ship I don’t get at all. I mean, there’s some where I feel like people only ship it because it’s canon, or made up of two conventionally attractive white men, but at least that’s a reason to ship it.

That said, I am continuously fucking baffled by the decision to have Jaheira be a romance option in BG2, and the fact that she’s apparently the most popular and ‘canon’ one?? I mean, I fancy her, but this woman was a friend of your father’s who he asked to raise you, should he die while you were a child. It’s… a weird fucking vibe. And then I had her romance start less than 24 hours after finding her husband’s dead body?? Girl you should NOT be flirting with me within a week. I quickly took her out of the party until Viconia’s romance had fully got going because my god that was uncomfortable.

But yeah I just… her husband literally Just died. I can’t see how romancing her is anything other than being a rebound, even leaving aside everything else. Even if you want a messy relationship, you have options other than whatever the fuck is happening here. Why. Why is she so popular to romance? Why do people keep suggesting this as an answer whenever someone goes, “wow BG3 Jaheira’s such a milf (and her husband’s been dead over a century), I wish I could romance her”? Whyyyy?

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

Okay sticking with the og Baldured Gates here, I am not a fan of any of the Enhanced Edition companion questlines. It’s hard to decide whether I dislike Neera’s or Dorn’s more. (I wasn’t a fan of Rassad’s in BG1 either, but I never got the motivation to recruit him in BG2 so idk maybe it gets better. But I doubt it.)

Dorn is disappointing, because I kind of liked him in BG1. His personal quest was less of a slog than Neera or Rasaad’s, and he had dialogue to challenge my character. Dorn telling me I should embrace my Bhaalspawn heritage while I argued that I don’t want to be some sort of Awful Murderer while literally in the middle of murdering Rieltar Anchev was the funniest moment of the game. In BG2 he’s just… so fucking evil. I mean I know he was always evil, but a revenge quest against people who attack us first is easier to justify than, “hey do you want to come and murder a temple full of innocent people with me?” I regularly hang out with evil party members but Dorn was just so much more actively evil than anyone else. And all of this for the only mlm romance option?? I do like Hexxat and will do anything for a lesbian vampire but I still think it’s kind of gross that both the queer love interests have the Evil alignment.

I probably dislike Neera’s more though, taking both games into account. Neera I think is the worst victim of Enhanced Edition Dialogue, which doesn’t help her case, or make me ever enjoy spending time with her. Her BG1 quest felt as cliched and annoying as expected from Enhanced Edition, but it was fine I guess. BG2 though. While in theory I enjoy “ragtag band of misfits band together to make a home for themselves in a world that doesn’t accept them,” they are unfortunately also written with Enhanced Edition dialogue, so I hate them all. 

The real problem though is the lack of pacing--pretty much every mage at the hideout gives you a side quest to do in the city, but you’re also given a main quest to do in the city. And unless you travel from the refuge to the city for side quests, back to the refuge, to the city for the main quest, and back to the refuge again, and then back to the city again (which takes up five in game days), you don’t actually get to complete the side quests and a bunch of the mages kill themselves. Which is kind of a downer. I’d say the quest needs to give you more time to get to know the wild mages, but again, I hate them all, so maybe it’s better this way.Also I had to play through the fight in the Red Wizard Quarters twice, because the first time an enemy cast Sphere of Chaos and teleported Hexxat behind the bar and I could not get her out. I had no way of teleporting her myself, I tried killing her but she couldn’t even get over the counter as a cloud of mist, and I couldn’t leave the building with her there because I couldn’t gather my party. I was playing on story mode at that point because I already wasn’t enjoying myself with this quest, but having to do it twice did not make me like it any better.

Where is Lee post-epilogue? I know they romance Wyll, so does Karlach's ending impact that (i.e. going to Avernus) or did something else happen? Does their ending align with canon or have you taken it a different direction?

Aaaa this was a very fun question to answer, thank you!

So right now, the canon is that Lee, Wyll, Karlach and Astarion go off to Avernus together at the end of the game. (Astarion is also romancing Wyll and doesn’t entirely hate the idea of going off somewhere with no sun, Wyll talks to Karlach before the end of the game and goes, “look we’re all planning to go and fight devils in Avernus anyway, if you choose to live you won’t be alone”.) It made a lot of sense when I was playing the game--I’d never done the Avernus route before, romanced!Astarion’s lines for origin!Karlach indicate he’s more than happy to join his loved ones for the trip, Lee gets to end the game going off on a brand new adventure with their three closest friends.

I’ve been wondering a bit about changing it up since then though. It’s not a bad ending, but I don’t know if it’s the most thematically fitting one? I’ve been wondering about having the other three go to Avernus while Lee stays on Toril to try to help rebuild the city and make reparations for everything in their backstory, rather than running away to kill more people. I might also end up swapping a few of my OC’s endings round, and have Karlach become a mindflayer in Lee’s game?? Not sure about that one yet though--part of the appeal is just to have Lee’s in-game epilogue not be shit (going to Avernus with Karlach overwrites a lot of epilogue dialogue for being Durge and for romancing Wyll) but I don’t want to base a story decision on gameplay bugs. I'm definitely going to replay Lee eventually though, so hopefully once I do that, I'll come out with a more solid idea of what I'm doing with them here.

Anyway. Whether or not Lee goes to Avernus or stays to rebuild Baldur’s Gate, they’re eventually going to realise they have unfinished business and that they need to find a way to stop the Dead Three, or at least free the people they’re torturing in their various realms and put their souls to rest. I don’t know how they do this, I don’t know if this actually can be done in Forgottem Realms lore, but I fundamentally do not vibe with any lore where people get tortured for eternity so I’m doing it anyway.

The point is, Lee’s remembering more of their past. They’re remembering how terribly they treated Gortash and wanting to set him free from Bane as some sort of reparation. They’re remembering that they had two sisters once, and Orin might be free from Bhaal now (Lee stays away from her themself, but they ask Jaheira to keep an eye, and Orin seems to be doing well and less murderously!), but no one ever did anything to help Helena. 

I do not have detailed thoughts for much of this. There’s a few things here and there--Karlach and Lee initially have a disagreement over Saving Gortash, but Karlach is a better person than he was and ultimately doesn’t think he should be tortured eternally either. Orin is involved with Fighting Bhaal, I also want to get Real!Sarevok (not the fake BG3 one) to meet Lee and give advice, maybe also Imoen. (I’m not sure yet whether to accept the Journal of Villainy canon for Imoen. There’s a lot in it that I reject, but I am a vampire fan and it would give me a reason tokeep her around during BG3. Ask me again once I’ve finished BG2 and have a stronger grasp on my Charname’s story.) Helena comes to some kind of peace with Lee, Orin, and her mother and gets her soul put to rest, because oh my god the shit I've put her through making up backstories. Lee and Orin have a conversation, Orin reaffirms that she wants Lee out of her life, because you do not get to keep your sister after doing All That to her, Lee lets her go. It's very bittersweet. Also I guess we’re rescuing Ketheric’s soul somewhere in all this. The only thought on that I have is that he’s probably even less thrilled to see Lee again than the rest of these people are.

Eventually, Lee’s going to want to settle down and not be in a position where they end up going out and killing people, even if for good reasons. They’re going to keep living with Wyll and Astarion, and probably also Karlach, and several years down the line, maybe some kids. I think Wyll definitely wants kids, Astarion would prefer to be a Cool Uncle figure with fewer responsibilities, and Lee is a mixture of enthusiastic and terrified. I don’t know if there’s a fostering system in Baldur’s Gate, but if not they’re getting one invented, because they very much want to be sure they’re safe around kids before committing permanently to this. Any children are absolutely going to be adopted, rather than biological.

Other than that, Lee continues learning about those they killed from Withers, because they want their victims to be remembered. They keep making their little bone sculptures, they just ethically source their bones now. They stay in contact with all companions except Minthara (she was not thrilled about Orin being spared). They keep trying to grow, and be better than they were yesterday.

What he wants to say is Jay, do not try and fight with 6 bullets in your stomach.

What comes out instead, through Bruce’s grit teeth and intense, fierce glaring, “Not you trying to go back to your corpse era. See how I only took 2 shots? Very demure. Very mindful.”

Jason passes out from blood loss, but mostly laughter.

Stephanie barely bites back a full belly cackle. “I think he just asked us if we copied.”

“I wish I was Jason, 15.”

“This is not a slay environment. Killing is flop behavior.” He keeps his eyes shut and buries his face in his hands. Trying to convince Damian not to stab someone doesn’t seem to work.

Damian gives him a pat like he’s a pitiful cat. “I’ll only stab the non lethal areas.”

“God, I wish that were me.”

Also sorry to ask this another question but why Jacob "Hangman" Seresin is so handsome and being gentleman especially he used his charm & his smile on ladies effectively?

Honestly, he's just blessed with good genes, a ma that'd probably beat him with a stick if he disrespected women in front of her, and was probably never told to shut the fuck up by his peers lol

Ok so, I just remembered how people in the comments of a tiktok video were being assholes, and I want to rant now :3

The video showed two wheelchair users at a train(?), who had just arrived to their stop to find nobody was there with a ramp so they could leave the train. One of them blocked the door so it wouldn't close, and this lasted for 15 minutes. The train was stopped for said 15 minutes. There was a button by the door, that said that it'd contact the driver when pressed. It didn't. People offered to go find the driver, and they came back with the news that there were no people in the platform to put the ramp. In the end, passengers had to go out, and place the ramp themselves, before the train could carry on. The wheelchair users had warned they were coming, and asked to have the ramp put there so they could get down. The platform turned out to have workers, they all just ran away because they'd never encountered the situation in which they needed to do this simple task.

Because of the workers' negligence, the train was forced to stop for 15 minutes.

Everyone's comments?

"Why did they block the doors and stop the train? So selfish" Selfish were workers who refused to do their job.

"What if someone had needed to get to their stop urgently? They shouldn't have stopped the train" It wasn't the disabled people's fault, it was the workers who were negligent.

"Why didn't they just wheel themselves down those steps?" They shouldn't have to risk their (expensive) chairs just because people didn't do what they were paid to do.

"If I had been in that train I would've been pissed, how dare you stop it" And you probably wouldn't have even thought about fixing the problem yourself, would you?

"Entitled assholes" Ok I'll leave you stranded in a train with everyone who could help you get down outright refusing to. Let's see who's an entitled asshole now.

If someone fights for accessibility, as much as it might be a bother for you, you do not have the right to be mad at them. If someone fights for accessibility, it is exclusively the fault of a world catered exclusively for able-bodied people.

So next time you think, "hey the consequences of these disabled people fighting for their rights bother me", instead of blaming them for this, help them solve the issue. This way, next time they will not have to fight at all.

Able bodied people, go out and fight for a fucking accessible world if you're not an asshole.
