The animated series Star Trek Lower Decks premiered on Aug 6, 2020. It was the 9th Star Trek series, the first animated series since Star Trek the animated series (1973 - 1975), the first Star Trek comedy series, and the first series to premiere the same year as another Star Trek series (Picard). Production during the first seaaon had to be modified due to Covid. The series events began in the year 2380 and focused on jr officers and what would be normally secondary characters on a Federation Star Fleet ship. this is so funny to me actually bcuz this is 100% how i talk abt my characters ages. i know what YEAR they were born and i know what rheir ages are supposed to be at the start of the story but i dont actually know when it takes place?? im really bad at math. There was a moment where rainbow was supposed to be 23 and i somehow accidentally made her 17 lmfao

#theoretically it would take place in 2021 bcuz thats when i created my object ocs but the more time passes #the weirder it feels to have it take place years in the past #i considered moving up their birthdays by a few years but like. idk i like their birthdays theyre cute :3 #bubblegum is SUPPOSED TO BE 15 and she was born july 2007 #watermelon is supposed to be 7 and he was born june 2014 #etc etc #starr is 27 and she was born september uhhh 1995 or 1997 i actually dont remember. whichever one makes sense #also that would mean building block was born in 2020 and since she's always gonna be a baby the furhter away we get #it means that she wouldnt have even been born when the story is actually supposed to take place. Like #i know their birthdays and their ages and what year they were born everybody else has to do the math #to figure out wtf is going on because I DONT KNOW #also that means that building block would be a pandemic baby lmao 😭#what was rhe vibe in nigeria in august 2020 during the pandemic. well i say that like it even happened in their universe #which there really isnt any reason for that to be true #it isnt historically important to mention like..... world war two or slavery or whatever. fucking obviously. in the context of objects #it gets messy so its better to just Not #also the months the characters were born really fuck me up bcuz jayden was born in late december #so for most of the first year that they met he would be.... younger than he actually is being born in 2003 #but since building's block birthday and exact age is the most important timeline-wise #and she was born august 14th 2020 and she's seven months old when they first meet #then it canonically would take place in march 2021 which was my original intention #bcuz that is the actual date that i first created my object ocs #ANYWAY. boring character age ramblings #but its hard to keep track of so i dont even blame the author!!!! birthdays are weird and hard to keep up w/#when you dont know exactly when your story is supposed to take place #assuming its in a normal-ish world im sure fantasy ocs dont have this problem #txt #object ocs

#poll #polls #covid #long covid #inspired by my realization that i can pinpoint exactly when i first got covid #because despite having a photographic memory i literally do not remember anything between early april and late august 2020 #-wait thats more or less the exact 6 month timeframe of early long covid symptoms #the lung issues at least are mostly-gone but recent reinfection hit hard with language/cognition symptom resurgence #i think reinfection was around may 2023 #...and guess what that's getting close to 16 months #so i'm guessing this round is an 18 month reinfection #i noticed there seems to be a lot of anecdotes of doctors refusing/being unable to treat long covid #im curious if the frequency of this sort of thing has increased after 2020 in particular?#since pretty much every healthcare professional got hit by early unmitigated/pre-vaccine L/alpha covid strains #and probably dealt with subsequent reinfection if working in high exposure risk environments like urgent/emergency med #anecdotally i have noticed that the med field people less practically/physically involved in treatment (vaccine researchers vs physicians)#seem to be less 'off' in general? idk #i feel like it's just not emphasized enough how much of a risk it is that everyone involved in treating & studying covid #probably has or had long covid at some point

Requestober ask- I love that we got to see last year what costumes you imagined for Edgar and Scri as kids. What do you think they'd be for Halloween as adults? I kind of imagine Scriabin as some kind of vampire or illusionist magician, or something similarly dramatic/elegant/mysterious~ For Edgar, though, I'm not sure. Sheet ghost? Lol. I can only think of lady!Edgar costumes, like her being a princess or smth. I feel like it wouldn't be anything too over the top, either way. Thoughts?

Woah this little project has been going on for 3 years now! A little crazy that I've managed to keep this thing running but I am nothing if not committed to the bit. Thank you to everyone who has been here since day one and everyone who has followed along more recently in this journey to post every single Sanji! Here's to three more years 🥂

#writing #the mechanisms #DIRECTORS COMMENTARY EDITION i have not been annoying enough yet #so this fic first came into being september 2020 (a writing rate of about 7 words per day if we ignore how i left it until july 2023) in #mostly the same format. 5 possible deats then DTTM. but! we didn't have a narrator in the same way - it was loosly jonny but he didnt play #the same role carmilla does. this was boring and very samey and i did not get past chapter 1 #cut to mechtober 2022. i wrtie a thing abt time loops and jonny speaking to the narrator and the idea that the mechs have died For Good #before but told a story well enough to keep on going. this will be important later #late august 2023! the fic is taking shape and most things will stay the same in idea if not exact words EXCEPT carmilla does not call jonny #she watches him go in silence and just Hopes #now this is not satisying imo like youre saying she spent 5 chapters watching+narrating and now shes in the story she still does nothing?#so i changed it to what it is now Except. because pf the premise of this fic. i think she 'remembers' that early draft #like this version of her character is aware a prvious one did nothing and that partly influences her actions at the end #anyway. yeah. were gettign meta

me as a kid being like ‘i wanna stay home all day and do whatever i want!’ and adult me being chronically ill, disabled and bed ridden ✌🏻

#like be careful what you wish for kid #sisters to me at 2020 new year’s being all ‘i just want something interesting to happen!!’#i think you can see where this is going #like yeah something ‘interesting’ did happen #a global pandemic happened and you got really sick and hospitalised multiple times #more times than you ever have in your life #august isn’t just my birthday month anymore #it’s also the anniversary of being getting hospitalised for the first time and all the horrible shit starting up #which is fun #like i’m turning 25 this year and then like 3 days later: trauma time!!!#it’s been four years this year #actually quite sickening #four years ago i was physically healthy #this shit really does just come out of nowhere sometimes and completely changes your life and you just have to deal with it #because you can’t change it no matter how much you might wish for it #all the people thinking they’d never get disabled #neither did i #no one expects to be 21 and stuck in a hospital bed #i’ve blacked out most of that time #like i genuinely don’t remember most of my 20s #even the non traumatic stuff #my brain just decided to get rid of it #and i can’t tell if my personality is bred from trauma or just bc i’m in my 20s now #it’s so hard to work out #bc i’m unsure if ppl who knew me before would even recognise me #have i changed or am completely the same?#i suppose being recently manic has left me questioning a lot of things #i’m basically revisiting a lot of stuff in an attempt to better cope and understand my triggers etc so i can better deal with the next one #honestly my brain has blacked so much out i don’t even remember having manic episodes #even tho i basically know i did

thought about food culture too much and started getting nostalgic and sad. My mom and I traveled this weekend to see my grandma who is my last living grandparent and you may remember recently received a heart failure diagnosis on top of dementia and generally being 92…I’m really glad I went but it was also really sad. She has like an electronic picture frame that rotates family photos and she likes looking at them with us but she’s not very verbal anymore so you can’t really tell how much she remembers. She is such a kind gentle loving person and always has been and you can tell she’s happy to be with us and that shes generally at peace…but it’s hard to see how vulnerable she is at the end of her life and also it’s hard to know that there is so much I remember and even more that my mom remembers that is lost to her. There’s a reason why they call the experience of having a loved one with dementia the long goodbye and it’s such an apt descriptor.

#sorry for being emo but. it’s hard #she’s visibly declined since I saw her in august and she had majorly declined even from the last time I saw her in Feb 2020 pre Covid #and even then she’s so different from the person I remember fron my childhood or even when I first moved to Minnesota for college 7 years #ago. she already had dementia symptoms then but she was so much more verbal and active

on the one hand I am fiercely pro union and pro strike and I hope they get good contracts no matter how long it takes but on the other hand I feel like I'm graduating in 2008 or 1929 or 1973 or smth 😭 got real damn unlucky with my graduation timeline :|
