a space for the unbound made me cry so hard my arms went numb.
Tumblr media
i got this game a couple months after it came out. i only just recently got around to playing it. made by mojiken studio n published by toge productions, it takes place in '90s rural indonesia with lots of colorful characters to meet n a living city to explore. u play as atma, a boy with a magical red book that can dive into the spaces of the hearts of people who are spiritually lost, and need re-guidance to who they truly are.
this game, at first, was good but didnt truly win me over till the scene with a cake. after that point, i kept playing. then it was the music, the scenery, the writing, the characters, nearly everything about this game began to enchant me with the story it was telling to me. this game barely tells u anything, yet so much happens within its 10 hour length. its depressing, but in a way that instills u with hope and faith, maybe everything is gonna be okay if i just make the right choices.
raya is one of the first characters we're introduced to, yet throughout the game, she's the most mysterious. she's confusing, she has more layers than a jawbreaker, and i think she's one of the best written characters in any game ive ever played.
the only thing i can really complain about this game is the gameplay, at times there are hella easy puzzles n others that require u to have a pen n paper to do some algebra problems. other times, youll be doin the same dang thing over n over for like 20 mins, n it feels like its trying to pad out for time when it really doesnt. otherwise, u explore loka town, talk to people, spacedive into their hearts, and fill out a bucket list (which isnt super important to do cuz all u get for completing it is a 2 min cutscene right at the end [a rly good cutscene that continued my sobbing session but still]).
im the kinda person who doesnt necessarily get that sad or cries at stuff, but something about the message this game sent or how i was left feeling with lots of realizations at the end, something about them struck such a chord in the strings of my heart that the afterimage of my emotions will be imprinted in my soul until the day im no longer roaming this earth. ive been left with thoughts and feelings that ill remember for years to come. during the final 30-40 minutes of this game, i was ugly crying, sobbing loudly like a big baby.
i have never played a game, never seen a movie or tv series, n never listened to a song that has made me feel what i felt while playing a space for the unbound. it was a game 6+ years in the making n i think it paid the hell off. i shoulda played this game when it was first added to my steam library.

life passes in a kind of eternal waiting. waiting for films, books, series, events, people, buses. winter, spring, summer, autumn. calls, messages, meetings. salaries, warm weather, weekends. waiting for everything to change. waiting that one day everything will be fine. and you just have to stop waiting and finally start living.

12|11|2023
The last day of my week of rest and I cannot believe a whole week is gone. Looking back I probably needed a bit more than a week to get my energies back, but I'll make sure to go easy on myself next week. Today was made of reading and resting and it was the best way to end the week for me. Tomorrow my new class awaits me and I am feeling a mixture of dread and excitement. I am not looking forward to the commute but maybe the new topics and a new weekly routine will give me motivation.
Today's self care:
Read first thing in the morning
Had a videocall with my best friend which was really nice and made me feel good we should try to schedule these calls more often
Cuddled up in my reading chair with a new book and lots of tea
📖: Finn Family Moomintroll by Tove Jansson (I am still slowly reading this book, I am savouring it when I need to immerse myself in something calming and cozy), The Odyssey by Homer (I finally decided to pick this up, I have studied it in multiple occasions but I never read it cover to cover and the edition I got a few months back is incredible, I am in fact also eyeing their edition of the Iliad which might be in my priority wishlist now)

September books review :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ninth house ☆☆☆☆: Everything was great, from the characters to the plot.
The scarlett letter ☆☆: Not for me. The story is good but the writing style is terrible, it took me forever to finish.
Pride & prejudice ☆☆☆☆ : never thought I'd say this but i enjoyed the movie much better, it's still a great book though don't get me wrong, it's just i could've gone living without reading it. One of my least favorite jane austen books (controversial, i know)
A room of one's own ☆☆☆☆☆ : a book every woman should read in my opinion.
White nights ☆☆☆☆☆ : a short romantic novela. I think it's less of a love story and more of a depiction of lonliness. Finished it in a couple of hours.
An ideal husband ☆☆☆☆ : a comedic play by oscar wilde, short & easy to read, i enjoyed it.

Book Blurb:
magical training by breaking a powerful family’s curse. But her own affliction—to never find true love—gets in the way when she falls for the girl she’s trying to save.
Magic is in Delilah Bea’s blood. Her absentee father is the world’s most famous cursebreaker, while all the women in her family are fated to never find true love. So when Delilah sets out to complete her magical Calling and gain her full powers as a witch, she has the perfect task in mind—breaking the Bea family curse.
But Delilah’s Calling is hijacked by Kieran Pelumbra, the spoiled son of the most powerful family in the country, and breaking his curse suddenly becomes her official assignment. Every generation, a pair of Pelumbra twins is doomed, with one twin draining the other of their life and magic. Kieran grows weaker while his sister, Briar, becomes…something monstrous.
As Delilah and the twins set out on their quest, they quickly realize that breaking the Pelumbra curse isn’t going to be simple. For one thing, the rest of the Pelumbra family doesn’t actually want their curse broken—and they’ve sent hunters after the trio to ensure they fail. For another, something about Briar gets under Delilah’s skin, distracting her and making her want to kiss the perpetually grumpy look off her face. But with time running out for the twins and Delilah’s own true love curse getting in the way, they may not stand a chance of finding their happily ever after.
Review:
A delight sapphic witchy romance about breaking curses, falling in love, and getting your happily ever after. This was a touch of Practical Magic meets Howl's Moving Castle, Delilah Bea's family is cursed so that any man who falls in love with a Bea woman will forget all their memories of said lover once they fall in love. Delilah is a witch who's father is a famous cursebreaker and when it's time for her Calling, a ceremony in which she is tasked to perform a magical feat to prove that she should be allowed to keep her magic, she opts to break the family curse.... too bad someone objects and sets a new task for her: to break his family curse. Kieran Pelumbra is the spoiled son of the most powerful family in the country and breaking his family curse has become her official assignment. Delilah should be mad but when she finds out that Kieran is dying and he doesn't have much time left and he is sorry for doing this to her but she is his final hope before he dies... she relents. Keiran needs Delilah to help him break his family curse: a curse that has killed every single set of twins in the family, and Keiran needs Delilah to help him find his twin Briar who has run away. Delilah is determined to break both her own curse and Keiran's curse, yet when she meets Briar she doesn't expect to be so completely taken aback by the prickly, eye patch wearing snarky girl who would sooner wrap vines around someones neck than ask for help. Delilah and Briar immediately get off on the wrong foot but the longer they spend together the more Delilah is beginning to realize that the reason Briar gets under her skin so much might be because she is falling for her. But can she fall for a woman when she is cursed to have all her lovers forget her? With the clock ticking and so many curses to break, can Delilah do it all? This was such a cozy romantic read and I loved the witchy atmosphere and the banter between Briar and Delilah was really cute. It's a great read for the autumn time and it's got a sweet love story at the center. I've loved Kayla Cottingham's books and this one was another great read! If you want a witchy sapphic read I would absolutely recommend this one!

Practical Magic
Like every other little girl around the world, I had always wanted to be a witch when I was older. I just thought it was the coolest thing in the entire world, and this movie brought back those childlike feelings as I was watching it.
There was so much to love about this movie, but I absolutely adored the sisterly love that you see throughout the movie. I feel like there aren't a lot of movies that showcase a true sister bond that can withstand the test of life, but this one definitely does. As I was watching, I found myself being transported to the world and feeling everything the characters are going through which is exactly what a movie should do. I absolutely adored the message that it showed, and I also absolutely love witchcraft. I mean it when I said I had always wanted to be a witch, so I love any imagery that includes these ideas.
This movie is a perfect fall or Halloween watch for the people that love the vibe of that time of the year, but don't necessarily enjoy intense horror movies. And even though I adore horror movies, sometimes it's nice to wind down with a less intense story about witches, which is exactly what this classic movie provides.

The quite reader aesthetic ✨
In the sacred silence of a reader's haven, time slows to a gentle rhythm as the dance of words unfolds a tapestry of tranquility. Amidst the hushed whispers of pages turning, a quiet life finds its refuge, where imagination and introspection intertwine, and the outside world recedes into the background, allowing the symphony of sentences to orchestrate the serene melody of a deeply immersed soul.
