The distortion (I believe its tube distortion I very well could be wrong though) on the vocals throughout the song felt like a bit too much. The melody didn't go anywhere, but it had a good beat. I have heard this song before and I don't think its one of the band's best. I don't really like this song much, just sounds produced for the radio. 5/10.

Ghost by Confetti

Sorta plain, sounds like a lot of songs I've heard. Definitely has a good beat, but not much going on with the song musically. Was enjoyable to listen to but again, it sounds like a lot of other songs out there, especially from the mid 2010's. 6/10.

Lowlife by Poppy

I have a love/hate relationship with Poppy. I have a few of their songs favorited. This is not one of the songs of theirs I like. I do enjoy how her voice is the melody for this song against a backtrack, but their voice is mixed far infront of the backtrack. It drowns it out. And there are times where their voice just stays on one note, which is a little painful to listen to. 4/10, kinda hurt my ears.

Didn't like, its spreading false information with the first lyric. Moss does not grow on the North side of trees. …fjrdkghsjkl Sorry I had to say that. XDD Anyhow, I enjoyed the up and down feel of this. I felt like I was listening to a vocal metronome, if that makes sense? Made me wanna tap my finger on the table to the beat. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't listen to it again. 5/10

Wasted Summers by Juju<3

This song reminds me of old 90's Blur. The voice singing super off key in the background was annoying and ruined the song for me. Would've been a nice chill song otherwise. Other than that, the guitar rift was alright, nothing special though. 3/10 because of those backup vocals.

This is Love by Air Traffic Controller

The synth in this was very good. I loved the fluttering sound it had going from left to right. The pulsing sound of the vocals really went with the background synth. The singing off beat at the end was off putting though. It came out of no where and took me out of the groove of the song. I think he was doing a 1/2 meter against a 4/4 which was just strange sounding. (I don't know if those are the correct meters, but I did my best trying to analyze them) 5/10, it was alright.

No seriously, this type of stuff can be imperative as a musician. If I only stew in things I constantly listen to, that's damning myself to stagnate artistically. And thanks! My band's called Scent of Steam. I just released my first album this April and I've got a new single coming out on Sept 30th.

just listened to forgive me cuz of your post and...... :-/ yeah...... it reminded me a lot of something aespa would release with added floppagitude. honestly I think I could write a dissertation on SM's descent into mediocrity and it gets tired BUT! they have made the mistake of blurring the lines between their artists and now everybody's music sounds exactly the fucking same IMO. its murky its muddy. its not even bad its just underwhelming. the only way you can tell groups apart now is by the sound of the singers voice. I miss when groups had unique concepts and sounds. like when red velvet was in their arianator era. should I move on and accept the passage of time? maybe. but this is not a phenomenon exclusive to SM artists either. its an intra AND inter company issue. everybody wants to sound like everybody else! and the ironic thing is that theyre all mimicking the worst examples ever. its a feedback loop that becomes shittier and lower quality every loop around. ppl hyped BP into oblivion so they became the standard for girl crush - garage band beat drop onomatopoeia music. straight to ya dome like woah woah woah (real line). and now even BP have now become victims of their own influence. idk. it takes guts to release MEMORABLE music nowadays. and thats why Losing Game (2022) by the soloist Le-

if you ever write that dissertation please hit me up i'll read every word bc the degradation of sm haunts me day and night. like everything you've said here is so correct i swear it all sounds the same forgive me, 28 reasons, that last aespa song, taemins last releases all of it could be on the same album. like you can mix and match basically any sm song from the past 2-3 years (with the exception of feel my rhythm maybe) and you wouldn't feel it was out of place for the artist bc its all so similar. its formulaic!!!! and its 1000000% black pink's fault. that shell of a producer teddy has made the same song 30 times and sm said 'ok so thats what the people want' IT IS NOT!!!!

Wei Wuxian was always the troublemaker, the crazy one, and Jiang Cheng always the one being dragged along; he’d long ago learned to spend all his time watching his shixiong’s back, keeping him away from dogs, away from angry shopkeepers, away from any harm. It was instinct, just as it had been the day he’d thrown himself out into the street to distract the Wens, and he’d always justified that instinct because he knew that Wei Wuxian would do the same for him.

Though – he didn’t know that anymore, not after everything that happened recently. Wei Wuxian had made him all the promises in the world, to stand by his side through wind and lightning, and he’d seemed to have no issue abandoning those promises, picking the remnants of the Wen sect over the remnants of the Jiang sect without a moment’s hesitation and not even the courtesy of an explanation.

The Yiling Patriarch was all but a stranger to him, and Jiang Cheng still didn’t understand why.

So it was probably stupid of him to react as if the person being stabbed at was Wei Wuxian, not the Yiling Patriarch – stupid of him to give up his life for someone who didn’t care about him nearly as much as Jiang Cheng cared for him.

But that’s why it wasn’t a thought. It was instinct.

He heard someone scream “Jiang Cheng!” as if their heart were breaking, and he thought for a moment that it was Wei Wuxian again, the one who loved him best. Wei Wuxian, not the Yiling Patriarch, who threw him to the dogs over and over again, put his sect at risk of utter destruction a second time over, just to indulge himself and his bizarre fixation on saving the Wens at the expense of everyone else. Who didn’t care about their duty to their sect, to their parents - who didn’t care about him at all.

Jiang Cheng’s heart hurt. It was probably just the sword that’d just been driven through it, though.

Hands grasped at his clothing, pulling him back; his sister’s face had lost all blood, and Wei Wuxian looked as if his world had ended – he wasn’t sure why. Jiang Yanli had her son to care for, a new life in Lanling that she refused to abandon even if Jin Zixuan was now gone; Wei Wuxian had his Wens, his new cultivation – perhaps it was some little regret, far too late, for the Jiang sect that would now come to grief, leaderless, the end of their family line and the disappointment of their ancestors. Jiang Cheng’s final and most absolute failure.

Jiang Cheng looked at them both, the ones he loved the most and who had left him without a single glance backwards, and found with his last breath that he had nothing to say to them.

He closed his eyes so they wouldn’t have to.

Wei Wuxian had only stopped the massacre when Lan Wangji, of all unlikely people, had bodily tackled him; everyone had always said that the Second Jade was like oil and water with her A-Xian, but he’d unexpectedly taken their side in this battle and was even now letting a barely-conscious Wei Wuxian sob Jiang Cheng’s name into his collar. He looked silently at her, his gaze a quiet reminder that her question was inappropriate – one Ghost General had already been enough to cause all of this tragedy, and certainly no one would ever accept another as a sect leader.

She looked steadily back at him, indicating in return that she didn’t give a damn about the standing of the Jiang sect if it meant she wouldn’t have to bury her baby brother.

Lan Wangji hesitated, looking down at Wei Wuxian. “You cannot stay at Yiling,” he finally said. “After this…”

They’d killed people from virtually every sect; no matter who had sympathized with Wei Wuxian before this or how much they felt he was wronged, they would have no choice but to raise up arms against him.

Jiang Yanli understood. They would be fugitives, condemned by all. She didn’t care. “Will you help us?”

He nodded and stood, Wei Wuxian cradled as gently in his arms as she held Jiang Cheng in hers.

“Will you come with us?” she asked. Anyone who loved her brother enough to defy his sect, to stain his untainted blade with the blood of his own kin, deserved a chance to court him properly, if she hadn’t misunderstood his intentions; she didn’t think she had, not with the expression so clear on his silent face.

“I will help you,” he said, and that wasn’t an answer, wasn’t the one she wanted, but it would have to do for now. “Let us go.”

It was Jin Zixuan who figured it out, oddly enough. Perhaps it was because he was an outsider, looking at the situation without affection to blur his eyes.

“You gave him your golden core,” he said, less than a week into his resurrection – Lan Wangji had been very efficient in his help, not only finding a new place to hide Jiang Yanli and the remaining Wens but also returning to Lanling to steal Jin Zixuan’s corpse and little Jin Ling before returning to his own sect at the first sign that Wei Wuxian would awaken from his coma. He hadn’t sent word since that time, whether from regret or other reasons; their only consolation was that there was no news of his death. “That’s why you couldn’t do anything other than demonic cultivation – is that right?”

Wei Wuxian looked at him through blood-red eyes. “Get lost,” he said; the phrase made up the majority of his vocabulary, these days, and because he refused to curse his shijie he mostly ended up not talking to her at all.

“Wen Qing was a famous doctor – she could have figured out a way to do it, and that would explain why you felt so indebted to them,” Jin Zixuan continued. “You never told him because you didn’t want to burden him. But instead you left him without any reason, any explanation: he must have felt that you abandoned him because you didn’t want him.”

“Get lost!”

“You broke his heart,” he said, and looked down at Jiang Cheng’s body – still perfectly preserved, but unmoving. The resurrection spell had already failed three times. “No wonder he doesn’t want to return.”

“I did it for him!” Wei Wuxian screamed, tears of blood dripping down his cheeks. “He didn’t – he wouldn’t – he has to come back!”

Jin Zixuan said nothing.

They ended up back in Yunmeng, rather unexpectedly; the new leadership of the Lotus Pier, a distant branch cousin who’d survived the massacre because he’d been night-hunting elsewhere, had all but begged Jiang Yanli to return. Against all odds her reputation had survived the massacre at the Nightless City; the loving wife, sister, and shijie that nearly sacrificed herself to save what lives she could and to banish the dreadful Yiling Patriarch who was never seen again from that day forth –  she was very nearly regarded as an incarnation of the goddess of mercy.

She had no idea where that ridiculous notion came from, but it did mean that she could live in Lotus Pier again, with Jin Ling by her side – she’d told Jin Guangshan to name someone else as his heir, or at minimum as regent; the Jiang sect needed her and her son more. It wouldn’t have worked if Jin Zixuan hadn’t snuck into his mother’s room to convince Madam Jin to throw her support behind it; officially he was still in his tomb, since Lan Wangji had been very subtle, but in fact he lived within shouting distance of the Lotus Pier, spending his days playing with his son.

They all did, actually, the whole lot of them resettled into a tiny adjacent water town populated largely by civilians that relied on the Jiang sect for their prosperity. As long as Wei Wuxian never did anything, which he didn’t, the illusion that he was gone for good in a cloud of self-destruction after his terrible massacre could be maintained; no one expected they could possibly be so daring as to simply go home after all of it.

Lan Wangji was in seclusion, they were eventually told; Wei Wuxian hadn’t believed it for one second, smuggling himself into Gusu to check – he’d come back unconscious, slung over Jin Zixuan’s shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

“Struck by the discipline whip,” her husband, the fierce corpse that wasn’t fierce at all, said, and didn’t comment when she instinctively reached out to touch Jiang Cheng’s body, to trace the scar he had; she often spent her days next to the bed that preserved his corpse. “Many times; his body is ruined. It will take years for him to heal – the Lan sect saying he was in seclusion was their way of saving face. Wei Wuxian wants to bring him back to the Lotus Pier to hide him.”

Jiang Yanli rubbed her face, thinking not for the first time that the world would be an easier place if only her two brothers weren’t so stubborn. One who wouldn’t wake up, his spiritual consciousness all in pieces; the other who wouldn’t give up – “The Lan sect wouldn’t accept that.”

“He wasn’t planning on asking. That’s why I knocked him out. Anyway, they’re distracted with the Xue Yang matter now – my father’s still insisting on protecting him, and the Nie sect gets angrier about it by the day; without the Jiang sect, there’s only the Lan to play peacemaker, stop there from being another war.”

Jiang Yanli, who was very nice but also very much not the goddess of mercy, tilted her head to the side; something of her mother was in her eyes. “A war would be a good cover, though, or at least the rumblings of one. If we were going to steal Lan Wangji away from his sect, that is.”

He kissed her forehead. “I’ll sneak into Lanling to talk to my mother, maybe see if I can follow Xue Yang and see what he’s up to. You go talk to the Nie.”

Jiang Yanli’s visit to the Unclean Realm turned out to be more fruitful than anyone had expected. The moment she walked into Nie Mingjue’s receiving room, her Jiang sect bell rang so hard that it shattered, which it definitely hadn’t done during the war – they both stared at it wordlessly for a while.

Eventually, he cleared his throat, averting his eyes. “You know my family history,” he offered as an explanation, embarrassment at the public revelation of his problem already turning to anger but suppressed by his strict adherence to etiquette.

“That’s no family history,” she said, bemused, as she crouched down to poke at the pieces. “The silver bell of the Jiang sect can steady focus and calm the mind, and the ones made for the family are the strongest by far; it would only shatter like this in the effort to resist a spiritual poison…how are you feeling now, Sect Leader Nie?”

He considered for a long moment, and his face grew black with rage. “Better. I feel – like my mind has been filled with fog, and a clear breeze has blown it clear.”

She smiled up at him. “Perhaps you should visit Yunmeng.”

He scowled, and she realized he must know about Wei Wuxian’s presence, though she wasn’t sure how; despite that, in the end, after a roaring argument with Nie Huaisang in another room, he agreed to go, even if the idea of staying willfully blind clearly pained him to the core.

Jiang Yanli quietly approved of his decision to put family over principle.

When they put their mind to it, the Nie sect  had an underrated talent for saying ‘I don’t know’ to just about everything. Neither brother blinked an eye at the Wen sect remnants that still teetered every time they went on a boat, very clearly not Yunmeng locals; they politely greeted Jin Zixuan as if he’d only been gone a while and not murdered; much to his older brother’s very evident irritation, Nie Huaisang even leapt over to give Wei Wuxian an enthusiastic hug while Nie Mingjue was still talking with Jin Zixuan about what it meant that Jin Guangshan had hidden away the still intact Wen Ning, who Jin Zixuan had found in a hidden part of Koi Tower during his most recent visit and immediately liberated.

“Definitely a case of spiritual poisoning,” Wei Wuxian said after a short examination, and the most reliable doctor they had left in the Jiang sect concurred. “The silver bell can help a little –” 

They’d already shattered seven of them, but Nie Mingjue had actually cracked a smile for the first time in months, to hear a sobbingly relieved Nie Huaisang tell it. 

“–but it can only help so much; that technique is really only meant for acute cases. And you really need to figure out what was doing the poisoning; there’s no point in curing you if you’re only going to get poisoned again.”

“A matter for a later time,” Nie Mingjue, who clearly had some suspicions that made him look as though he’d been stabbed in the back, said. “Now that we know it’s a poisoning, and my mind is clearer, I can take some action myself – the Nie have plenty of techniques to stabilize the spirit.”

Wei Wuxian’s smile was full of self-hatred, as it always was these days. “I don’t suppose any of those are designed to work on the dead.”

“Actually,” Nie Huaisang said. “Several are. Why do you ask?”

1. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino - Arctic Monkeys - What can I say about this album that myself or everyone else hasn't already said? It's a bloody masterpiece, so much so that I have it tattooed on me - the vibes are immaculate and of course I love all the Monkey's stuff but this is just something else. I'm also giving a consolation space to HUMBUG here because damn that is 10 tracks of perfection❤️ Fave Tracks: Batphone, TBHC, Four out of Five but Star Treatment takes the cake as my all time fave am song.

2. Everything You've Come To Expect - The Last Shadow Puppets - Tbh I haven't listened to this for a little while but that's just because I know when I go back to it it'll hit me all over again. I love the boys' first album but EYCTE just has it all. Not to mention it came out at a really good time in my life and I just love Al and Mi together so much, god. The Element of Surprise and Dracula Teeth are faves but all are amazing🤌🏻

3. Plastic Beach/Demon Days - Gorillaz - I was gonna just put Plastic Beach but then I remembered just how good Demon Days is too. I love them both equally, as well as the debut album. I saw Gorillaz last week and I'm still fucking reeling because the moment they played DARE and Dirty Harry I literally reached spiritual enlightenment (even if Shaun Ryder was putting in 1% effort lmao it was funny tho) genuinely dont have room for my top tracks here bc Damon Albarn is just a genius and I love him your honour

4. Origin Of Symmetry - Muse - I haven't listened to Muse in quite a while either and I love all of their albums (apart from most of Simulation Theory but we don't have time to unpack that!) but I think it's easy to tell I'm a fan of their earlier stuff - New Born, Bliss and Citizen Erased are my faves on OOS but every song is so beautifully crafted and its a great capsule of just quintessential MUSE - always a classic.

5. Tourist History - Two Door Cinema Club - This is just pure nostalgia and euphoria for me, if you want to party with your mates this is the album you put on, it reminds me of great times at my local nightclub just dancing all night (I hope to be there again soon) - truly an album of my generation, just gorgeous.

Honorable mentions go to Superfood - Don't Say That, Daft Punk - Discovery and MCR - The Black Parade as well as many more. It's weird cause theres lots of artists that I love and know many songs of but not specific albums, such as Bowie, Kate Bush, Blur and lots of 80's artists like the Human League, Depeche Mode and Duran Duran. I find it very hard to really be pulled in to an album as a whole so when it happens for me, it REALLY happens! ✨

‘Paint It Black’ by Hidden Citizens has played on loop in my head for weeks now. The lyrics are about mourning & grief, but this cover makes it dramatic & sinister, like trying to make the whole world feel the same...

2. a song you associate with a favorite character or ship

‘Killer in the Mirror’ by Set It Off. A few of you might recognize this already bc I put it as the first song in my Perpetual playlist as well. As such, it makes me think of ‘Zuko Alone’ and ‘Jet’ so very much still. And as much as the lyrics are about being alone & mistrust, the video has a different turn of finding others who are like you, and reemerging as the victor after all. 

3. a song that could be about you

ooh, this is gonna be a personal one maybe but... ‘Change’ by NF. First time I heard it was soon after this entire album first came out. ‘The Search’ is another great one, but it was more specific to NF, while ‘Change’ has a broader feel. The lyrics say enough.

4. a song you think is overrated

‘Blurred Lines’ by Robin Thicke. No link, it doesn’t deserve any more attention. It got the downfall it deserved a while back, but I still dislike that it got popular at all. It has an awful msg embedded in a catchy tune. 

5. a good song that reminds you of a specific memory

‘Breathe’ by ZABO. This is one I first heard from my lil sis in her old apartment while she was packing to move, but the more specific memory that it gives me now is our recent road trip together. It came on over the speakers, and without any discussion beforehand or during, she and I are breathing together in time to the song, and then simultaneously bobbing our heads to the beat. So I’m driving, she’s in the passenger seat, and the mountain view is around us through the windows as this song plays.

6. the last song you listened to

if we want to be very technical, it’s ‘Breathe’ as above, bc I’m listening to & linking the songs as I get through this list. If we’re talking about pre-list, then I sought out ‘2 Phút Hơn (KAIZ Remix)’ by Phao earlier today. Another song that came from spending time around my lil sis, and it’s a bop~

7. a song that makes you laugh

‘YAS’ by Todrick Hall. The ending where he switches up the style of the song twice made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it, and still puts a smile on my face when the song comes on again. It just feels good to be petty sometimes and this song embodies that. 

8. a song you want your mutuals to listen to

besides all of the above? hard choice... but I’ll have to go with ‘Shark Attack’ by Grouplove. It is near nonsensical nonsense but it is such fun. It’s a song that gives me such carefree positive energy that, although the girl who introduced it to me hurt me in a bad way, the song evokes stronger emotions in me than she did, and ‘Shark Attack’ remains one of my favorites.

I FUCKING LOVE THIS ALBUM AND THE MEANING OF THE SONGS ARE ALREADY SO CEMENTED IN MY HEAD. PLS. 

THE CONCEPT OF JUSTICE IN DALLAS’S CASE IS LIKE, GIVING JUSTICE TO THE STORIES AND MOMENTS HE’S LIVED THROUGH. usually, he is very quick to be harsh and talk negatively of things and people but actually, he has a deeper perspective but is too scared to show it or at least he has been in the past. i think i’m trying to develop him in a new direction (ish). he isn’t a saint but i think he’s definitely ready for newer chapters. 

2 MUCH “Don't wanna fall asleep, I'd rather fall in love 'Cause eternity with you ain't long enough Two seconds without you's like two months And that's too much” a song about all of his relationships. i feel like this is definitely how dallas feels with ALL of his relationships, whether he claims to love or hate them now. he definitely admires people and puts them on pedalstals and he’s his own biggest enemy because if he could verbalise his feelings properly, people would probably feel more valued by him. the chorus definitely points to how he feels like he knows every romantic relationship he has will be over. they all just feel like ticking time bombs and deep down he thinks he’ll end up alone. 

DESERVE YOU  I feel like I don't deserve you tonight It's in the way that you hold me I don't deserve you tonight It's in the things that you show me I need you, don't let me go”  a song for charlie. she’s his best friend and this is definitely a platonic song. she’s the one friend (girl, anyway) that’s stood by him and not criticised him or patronised him, but also hasn’t made things messy by blurring the lines between them. he knows he doesn’t appreciate her enough but he’s also massively worried about disappointing her/not living up to the person she seems to think he can be if he tries. she was the person who was there at his very lowest. it’s about him feeling fully accepted by her too.

AS I AM  “Sometimes, I don't know why you love me Sometimes, I don't know why you care Take me with the good and the ugly Say, "I'm not goin' anywhere" his real fans. the ones who he sees constantly defending him and sticking up for him, despite all of the shit that he’s put them through lmao because he’s definitely not made it easy to support him but he is genuinely grateful (as much as he moans about fancons and being bothered). 

OFF MY FACE  “'Cause I'm off my face, in love with you I'm out my head, so into you And I don't know how you do it But I'm forever ruined by you” soraya. it’s a love song but also a play on his battle with drugs and how his addiction came in between them. the song lines definitely go back and forth between a stereotypical love song (for her) and a more toxic love song (for the drugs) and how he couldn’t bring himself to part with them for her. 

HOLY  “On God Runnin' to the altar like a track star Can't wait another second 'Cause the way you hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me Feels so holy” charlie, disney, ruby, adrian, matt, evan, basically all of his close friends. the song is pretty self-explanatory. 

UNSTABLE  “I tried to scare you, scare you away Showed you the door, you adored me anyway When I was broken in pieces You were my peace of mind, you were my peace of mind.” a lot of these songs are going to be about coming to terms with the truth about his relationship with soraya and realising that he was the problem, because he’s always found it easier to point at anything else. 

MLK INTERLUDE  “You died when you refused to stand up for right You died when you refused to stand up for truth You died when you refused to stand up for justice for all of his faults, dallas has ALWAYS spoken up about bigger social issues. especially racial inequality. i think he’d put this on here for ally-ship purposes but also to remind people that there are bigger problems than trying to decode what each song is about. i think the speech itself connects to him because there are SO MANY people at st judes who villainise him lmao and run their mouths about how bad he is, but then stay quiet for shit that actually matters. so i guess its kinda shade to them too. 

DIE FOR YOU  “Pain and passion, my desire You're the right now and what will be You know I would die for you The rest of my life for you” ZARA. zara is the only girl he’s been linked to that has made him meet his match. she always gave him the energy he gave her and that was a first for him, bc he was so used to having the upper-hand. it’s a song about feeling like he’s been pulled out of the rut and the mess he ended up in with soraya x julian and everything else. 

HOLD ON  “Painting stars up on your ceiling 'Cause you wish that you could find some feeling, yeah, you You know you can call me if you need someone” ruby. he saw how hurt she was after her break-up and he’d been there. they weirdly fell back together after so many years and he didn’t want to see her fall into the heartbreak with ros that she did with soraya.

SOMEBODY  “Yeah, everybody needs somebody (Everybody needs somebody) Somebody to wake up to when everyone's gone So if you need me, then you got me (If you need me, then you got me) I'll be the shoulder you cry on” charlie, again, but this time saying he’ll be the best friend to her that she’s been to him. 

GHOST  “If I can't be close to you I'll settle for the ghost of you I miss you more than life  And if you can't be next to me Your memory is ecstasy I miss you more than life” the very last song he’s wrote about soraya. i think he knows deep down that they’re not getting back together but he is deeply in love with her & she is the love of his life, and i feel like he takes comfort in knowing that he’s significant to her too. 

PEACHES  “I got my peaches out in Georgia (Oh, yeah, shit) I get my weed from California (That's that shit) I took my chick up to the North, yeah (Bad-ass bitch) I get my light right from the source, yeah (Yeah, that's it)” nothing LMAO 

LOVE YOU DIFFERENT  “There’s beauty on your lips I drown with every kiss I'm not used to this There's nothing I won’t give Don't like makin' promises Just remember this” his relationship with gigi. i think now that he’s away from it and well over it, he sees it more for what it is and the fact that empty promises and trying to be more than they wanted to be kinda ruined them. i feel like this song was written in past tense because they’re obviously not in love any more. 

LOVED BY YOU  “It's still your love I'm always looking for It's just the way I'm wired Whether I'm wrong or right I've only got one thing on my mind” EVERYONE. i think at his core, dallas is desperate to be loved by people and the reason he pushes people away is because he doesn’t think they’re ever going to. it addresses the people around him, his fans, music academies. he acts like he wants no approval but it’s really the opposite.

He knew it was his fault. He knew that he drove this wedge between the two of you, but that didn’t make it hurt any less. Reflecting on his past relationship with you, he stares at his dimly lit apartment walls, eyes drifting towards the pictures of you. He can’t motivate himself to move, he just feels numb. 

When Hinata had gotten the offer to go to Brazil, as excited as he was, he also was filled with dread. He knew he’d have to break it to you, that he was going away, and he’d never even told you about his offer to go out there. He thought it was a long shot that he’d get accepted. But, he had to tell you and you had to talk about the future of your relationship.

Hinata could only stand there in shock when you broke down crying. It was like he was glued in place, forced to watch the one he loved break. When he told you, you knew instantly that you couldn’t make the distance work. You barely wanted to try, knowing how busy he’d have to be. Making it clear you needed space from him through your sobs, you rub at your eyes before turning tail and running.

Shivering at the image of your fleeing back, he rubs his eyes. Its almost like that image is burned into his memory, haunting his waking moments. It was the worst mistake he ever made, but he stood firm. He knew he needed to move out here to improve, but part of him hoped you’d wait for him.

Bleary-eyed he checks his phone, instantly going to your social media to check up on you. He never liked a post, and the two of you hadn’t spoken since that day. He thought you hated him. Hated that he chose volleyball over you, hated that he loved a sport so much that he’d give up everything for it. He knew life would be different in Brazil, but knew that it wasn’t supposed to be this different.

You sit in your room, eyes glued to your phone as the sun rises. Taking a deep breath, you check Hinata’s social media. Nothing new, as normal. Part of you wondered if he’d blocked you. You wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. He had every right to hate you. You rolled over and gave up when things became inconvenient for you, not even willing to try. You doubted the man you loved dearly, and paid the price.

You stare down the walls of your apartment, filled with images of your past with Hinata, and your friends. You knew full well that he was probably out there meeting new people and making new friends, ones that you’d probably never meet. An overwhelming sense of dread washed over you as you groan, rubbing at your eyes. 

“Worthless” your mind hisses at you, as you shake your head. There’s dark circles under your eyes by now, you just can’t seem to sleep.  That moment of weakness haunting your dreams every night. You can’t stop thinking about how foolish you were. “He’s probably moved on” you think, shaking your head as you get up to make breakfast.

“God damn it…” you mutter, sighing as you plop some toast into the toaster. “Why was I so stupid.”

He hasn’t been the same since, Shouyou supposes. Everything new around him makes him think of you. The way you always knew a joke that would make him laugh, the way you’d take care of him when he got sick, the way you never let him wallow for too long before picking him back up. Hinata drags a hand through his hair as he lays down on his bed, ignoring the plane ticket next to his phone on the nightstand. Only a week left until he came back. Though Japan barely felt like home if you weren’t there to greet him. Why would you though?

You missed him. Even if you never admitted it, everyone around you knew it. You’d been dimmer since he was gone, almost as if you were at half your power. Half your strength. Half of who you once were. In a way, it was true. He was your other half, he always was. You felt as if your other half had been ripped from you, even if you were the one who did the ripping. The days blurred into one, merging together and making time feel like a foregin concept. You wanted him back so bad. But what if he had moved on? You didn’t even want to think of that. You picked up your phone, opening Shouyou Hinata’s twitter and starting a new private message.

That week, neither of you could be separated from your phones for long. After some awkward catching up, you had fallen back into the familiarity of your relationship, sharing the old inside jokes that had fallen to the wayside. But, it was time. You stood at the gates, hands folded together nervously as you fidget. Hinata asked that only you come get him, which made you so nervous. What if he wasn’t coming? What if he was only talking to you out of pity? You knew he wouldn’t do either of those, but it still scared you to death. 

When you saw his grin, everything fell back into place. It just clicked back to the way it once was. You looked him over, smirking. He’d gotten taller, and a lot buffer, and you had a huge appreciation for that. But what shocked you was the rose in his hand. Red as an apple. He ran up and hugged you tightly, one which you gladly returned. You’d missed this. Missed him. Its when he pulls back and grabs the stem of the rose with both hands that you feel anxiety start to boil inside of you.

“Y/n. I couldn’t bear being separated from you for that long. It felt like I was missing a part of me. I…. I would love to have another chance with you. I promise I won’t go to Brazil this time.” He confesses, his eyes that were trained on the rose during his speech moving up to you. You can tell you’re tearing up, and you move to cover your mouth. 

“Shou, darling. I’d love to have a second chance with you. You’re my other half, I felt so lost without you. I won’t leave you again.” Your voice shakes as you speak, and you lean forwards to kiss him gently.

After a moment the two of you pull away, and he hands you the rose, picking his luggage up.

“I don’t have a place to stay here, you know.” 

“Stay with me. There’s more than enough space for you and your antics.” 

“I was really hoping you’d say that. Kageyama said I couldn’t stay at his afterall.”

“Figures.” You chime, a smile on your lips. This was comfortable, this was what you’d been missing. Moments like this with the one you loved so dearly. Your other half. You knew he missed you too.

These days that I just lay awake Have taught me what you really mean I should be more independent But I find it hard to determine if it's even worth living my own days!

Hinata instantly dropped his bags, letting you set the rose into a vase before tugging you into a tight hug and burying his face into your neck.

“I was so scared that you’d moved on, y/n.” He confesses. You can only softly laugh at that, rubbing his back lightly.

“No one will ever replace you in my life, Shouyou Hinata.” You reassure, pressing a kiss to his forehead as you start to sway gently. He smiles into your neck, fingers tapping onto your back.

Neither of you would ever elaborate on how rough it was to be apart for that long until your wedding, where during your speeches you admit that breaking up and moving away from each other was the worst choice you made for your relationship, because you lost your other halves for a bit and that taught you exactly what you meant to each other. Despite it being the worst choice, it was the right one. The one you needed to do to grow closer than ever before.

Sincerity is Scary by The 1975 - to me this song has strong summer vibes and one time i listened to it like three ties in a row while i was doing laundry

Lost by Frank Ocean - this song *breathes in, breathes  out* this sing is so fantastic i don’t even have the words to describe it. yet another great car song. try listening to this song while standing on a balcony overlooking a street down bellow while your’re on vacation in a cute little beach town, it’s very nice 

Female Energy, Part 2 by WILLOW - i have to be in the mood for this song but it’s really good. summer isn’t even over yet but this song already reminds me of the nostalgia this summer will give me, if that mkes sense

To the End by Blur - i love to sing this song at the top of my lungs while i’m driving. fantastic beautiful *chef’s kiss*

oh god this post got really long. okay but really thank you all for having taste these songs really made my summer. this is probably the best summer i’ve had and i will always associate these songs with it. and this is gonna sound weird, but you really had a positive impact on my summer in ways you can’t even understand, so thank you thank you thank you💕

it me, dani again, i know i just joined but listen...i felt inspired !! jeongmin is actually a recycled muse from an old rp and i’ve missed him so much i wanted to bring him back !!

[ lee taeyong, cismale, he/him, 23 ] FUKK SLEEP by A$AP ROCKY? whenever i hear that song, it reminds me of JEONGMIN ‘MIN’ KIM. maybe because they’re INVENTIVE but also DEVIL-MAY-CARE. they’ve been living at mulberry apartments since AUGUST of 2017 in 700 and have 1 ROOMMATE. ( WREAK HAVOC, PIENSO EN TU MIRA )

kim jeongmin, or ‘min’ to everyone else. he was born in seoul, south korea up until he was four years old before his family packed up and moved to the states. it was tough at first, family spews being what drove his family to this big change. there was a lot of struggling growing up, especially financially and it took a toll on jeongmin, especially as the oldest sibling he had to only help provide at one point, but also raise his siblings when both his parents were out working. 

they’re in a good place now, years of hard work paying off for his family. growing up like that it definitely drove jeongmin to do whatever he could for himself on his own. it has both it’s pros and cons, sometimes the two of them are blurred together, unsure what’s positive and what isn’t. he’s very prideful when it comes to not asking for help, but other times he cares too much for others and lacks taking care of himself first. 

when he moved out, jeongmin felt like he could finally breathe for himself. he could focus solely on school and his job and himself. he goes to school for fashion design/styling considering his clothes were a way to express himself, and he had to get creative considering he couldn’t exactly buy the brands he can now growing up ( think pretty in pink, or those cool twt posts of people thrifting and turning it into something better, example: this ! ), and he absolutely loves it. he works as a full-time visual for a high-brand retail store, and it helps pay the bills -- especially considering his roomate’s ( haeju’s ) sugar daddies pay the rent, he doesn’t worry all too much. 

personality wise, jeongmin could come off as cold or maybe even a bit of dick considering his ‘resting bitch face’ but he’s not, at least not right away unless he’s given reason to be. or unless you loosen him up, he loves a good party and loves a good drink as much as the next person. but if you’re friends or close, or just know jeongmin is more than his surface he’s nothing but hardworking, feisty, and a risk-taker ( and you’ve gotta be able to take risks if you want to make it in fashion -- direct jeongmin quote ).

ummm, honestly listen i can go on about jeongmin but it’s late and my brain is going blank but this is the gist of him !! also because since he’s brought back to life, there’s going to be adjustments for him in this rp that don’t exactly fit in with where i used him prior !! so, yeah !! 

on to quick fun facts : 

he’s a virgo sun, cap moon ( and i say this bc i didn’t want to make him a full on cap -- sorry to any capricorns out there, oops ! its ok, my moon is cap too ), sept 2. 

he’s very versatile when it comes to fashion, always sporting a different look and never sticking to solely one, at least not for long periods of time.

personal stylist on the side, not his main job but people -- especially middle aged women -- pay him well enough for him to continue to buy his favorite cologne and cosmetics that aren’t dupes. he may be thrifty but he loves his high fashion brands too.
