THE KOSA BILL HAS MOVED OUT OF THE COMMITTEE WITH A UNANIMOUS VOTE, BUT THE FIGHT IS FAR FROM OVER. BILLS NEED TO GO THROUGH MANY OTHER STEPS BEFORE GETTING PASSED SO THERE'S STILL TIME TO STOP IT. DON'T STOP SIGNING PETITIONS AND DON'T STOP MAKING CALLS TO SENATORS. AGAIN HOPE IS NOT LOST. IF WE GET ENOUGH PEOPLE IN POWER TO OPPOSE KOSA IT WILL NOT MAKE IT PAST THE SENATE. DON'T STOP FIGHT AND DON'T LOSE HOPE!!! WE STILL HAVE POWER IN NUMBERS!
HERE IS A LINK TREE WITH LINKS TO PETITIONS AND NUMBERS TO CALL YOUR SENATORS (WITH SCRIPTS)
(For those who are not aware: KOSA is a bill that will give the government a ridiculous amount of power over the Internet. It will make you unable to access the Internet without uploading your ID. It will also limit your access to human rights issues [homophobia, transphobia, slavery/racism, abortion etc.]. It says it's to protect children's mental health but it's not! It's all about control.)

In honor of Black History Month, we'd like to share our copy of Let Me Live (1937), by Angelo Herndon.
Angelo Herndon (1913-1997) was a coal miner and labor organizer who worked across racial lines. After an attempt to organize black and white industrial workers in Atlanta in 1932, Herndon was arrested and convicted of insurrection. The prosecution case pointed to his possession of communist literature (all of which could be found at a public library), which were found in his hotel room.
Herndon was eventually sentenced to 18 to 20 years of hard labor, but his conviction was overturned by the state appeals court and he was released on bail. On April 26th, 1937, a narrow majority of the Supreme Court ruled in his favor, ruling Georgia's insurrection statute as unconstitutional.
Let Me Live, Herndon's autobiography written during his time in prison, tells the story of his arrest and times in court but also describes his early life up until that point.
This first edition copy features an inscription from Herndon to Thomas Mooney, a noted political activist and labor leader who was controversially imprisoned. When Herndon was out on bail awaiting appeals, he visited Mooney in prison and conducted an interview, which was published in Labor Defender in January, 1935.
To view more about this book and other materials to celebrate Black History Month, visit our digital exhibit, Law and the Struggle for Racial Justice.

Project 2025 is a plan to, in the words of project Director Paul Dans, "...march into office and bring a new army of aligned, trained, and essentially weaponized conservatives ready to do battle against the Deep State".It is organized by the Heritage Foundation, to "muzzle woke propaganda at every level of government", "gut the administrative state" (HUD, FEMA, DOJ, DHS, the Federal Reserve, CDC, FDA, EPA, etc.) and concentrate power into the hands of the President (Leeja Miller, in a video that is linked below, goes into detail on how this would work).Their claim is that "Only through the implementation of specific action plans at each agency will the next conservative presidential Administration be successful".The plan includes a [180 Day Playbook](https://www.project2025.org/playbook/), described as "...a comprehensive, concrete transition plan for each federal agency."
The plan is "the conservative movement's unified effort to be ready for the next conservative administration to govern at 12:00 noon, January 20, 2025".Project 2025 promises to "rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left" and to "unite the conservative movement and the American people against elite rule and woke culture warriors".Project 2025 lists problems with America such as:* The breakdown of the family* Immigration* The "totalitarian cult known today as The Great Awokening"* The erosion of constitutional accountability in Washington* Children suffering the "toxic normalization of transgenderism with drag queens and pornography invading their school libraries"* An "overseas, totalitarian Communist dictatorship" that is "not a strategic partner or fair competitor" and is "engaged in a strategic, cultural and economic Cold War against America's interests, values and people"* "Low-income communities" that are "drowning in addiction and government dependence"* "America's elites have betrayed the American People"* The left using climate change "to scare the American public into accepting their ineffective, liberty crushing regulations"They believe that "These are problems not of technocratic efficiency, but of national sovereignty and constitutional governance. We solve them not by trimming and reshaping the leaves, but by ripping out the trees -- root and branch."
Their broad goals are to:1. Restore the family as the centerpiece of American life, and protect our children2. Dismantle the administrative state and return self-governance to the American people3. Defend our nation's sovereignty, borders and bounty against global threats4. Secure our God-given individual rights to live freely - what our constitution calls "the Blessings of Liberty"Dans states that "The long march of Cultural Marxism through our institutions has come to pass. The federal government is a behemoth, weaponized against American citizens and conservative values, with freedom and liberty under siege as never before".Project 2025 is, in my words, a distinctly terrifying and highly detailed roadmap for:* Installing a Chriso-fascist oligarchy* Rolling back civil and human rights* Removing bodily autonomy from women and transgender individuals* The systematic eradication of minorities and other vulnerable groupsI don't use the words "systematic eradication" lightly or with hyperbole.
They obviously don't come right out and say it, but they state that:* Pornography should be outlawed* The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned* Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders* Telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shutteredThe real problem with the above, apart from the obvious, is that they label the existence of LGBTQIA+ people as "inherently pornographic". They say that pornography is “manifested today through the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology".They say that the fix "starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity ('SOGI'), diversity, equity and inclusion ('DEI'), gender, gender equality, gender awareness, gender sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists".They also state that "The president should direct agencies to rescind regulations interpreting sex discrimination provisions as prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, sex characteristics, etc."
They want to "maintain a biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family" which would remove protections for same-sex marriage.Leeja Miller helpfully points out that the above language does not simply include transgender individuals, it includes cis women as well. I'd argue that removing the DEI language also allows them to target anyone that isn't a white, cis, heterosexual, evangelical (or other approved flavor of Christianity) male. Some other points of note:* They want to eliminate the Department of Education* They want to ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory* They want to bring back the practice of impounding funds

I'm so tired. This country is absolutely abysmal. I'm afraid for myself, my daughter, my son, my family and my friends. What if my daughter ever needs an abortion? Will she be able to get one legally and safely? What if one of my kids decide they aren't comfortable with the gender they were born and want to change? Am I going to go to jail for supporting them? What if one of my kids realizes they're gay? Will they be able to marry their partner whom they're in love with like I was able to marry their father? Are my LGBTQ+ friends who are married get to stay married? And what's going to happen to their kids? Are we ever going to live in a country where it doesn't matter about the color of your skin, but the content of your character? Are any of the dozens of apps I have on my phone or our alexas going to be hacked by the government in the name of national security just to invade my privacy? Are my kids going to get shot at school because the GOP refuses to ban guns? I don't feel safe and I'm scared for the future my kids are facing. I fucking hate it here. America IS NOT the land of the free. It's the land of the rich old cis white men who make the laws and expect us to follow or be faced with imprisonment. Fuck our government.

To anyone who is able to vote this year, please listen!
I know I haven't been posting much art lately. Sorry about that. I have been having some burn out and my mental health has been shit.
Anyways, I figured I would post what's been on my mind today.
I know many of us who currently live or are born in The States/USA have felt pretty hopeless with everything going on in the country at the moment. Especially because of the whole Biden V Trump shit that has been going on for a long while.
We have felt like that no matter who we vote for it's honestly pointless because either Biden or Trump will win. Well, honestly I would HIGHLY recommend checking out Mrs. Marianne Williamson.
Marianne Williamson is the only person in the Democratic party who has been calling for a ceasefire over in Gaza since the very beginning.
She stated that if she becomes the president she is going to be negoiating with the Ukraine and going to try and do as much as she can to help.
She, if she becomes president, wants to establish a Department of Peace because she believes that we need to better target and discuss peace just as much as we do war.
She wants to fight climate change.
She wants to make healthcare and college universal and free.
She wants to help disabled communities.
She wants to give land back to Indigenous tribes.
She wants to create more gun safety laws.
She wants to make jobs and homes more accessable.
She wants to help protect reproductive rights.
She wants to target mental health and make it more accessable to the people.
She wants to put more POC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled people into our government to be certain that when they are discussing matters that personally target those communities, people who represent those communities can speak their minds on it.
She wants to provide funding over the span of two decades to the black communities for the years of slavery that our country has put them through.
She wants to target poverty and the economy as a whole.
And lots more.
If you'd like to read up on her and what she stands for, you can find that -> here
Please spread this around as much as possible! We need a president who stands with Gaza, the LGBTQIA+ Community, the POC community, the Disabled Community, etc. She is that. She is just aaa. I checked out here site and was not disappointed. You can find her main site -> here
I just wanted to say that there's hope!!!! I know who has my vote this year. Please make sure you vote this year!
(Sorry for typos-)

I'm just not feeling 4th of July this year... again... Here's why.
can i be honest?… i don't celebrate july 4th, or at least not this year again either. maybe this is just a phase. i don't know much about politics, but i know that human rights are basic rights.
last year it was the entire abortion ban laws / roe vs. wade stuff going on that lead me to go out in the streets on hollywood, crossdressing in all black and baggy clothing ( if i was the man, then i'd be THE MAN ). this year i just came to realize that this said freedom of america wasn't reciprocated for black people which is extremely unfair, and slavery went on for decades. how can you celebrate freedom for america when people of color weren't included? could've sworn it was "all men created equal" but america back then thought not if you're not white
i recall even in 2021 i didn't feel included celebrating 4th of july either. i'm of mexican and ecuadorian descent 2nd gen and my mind sometimes flashes back to the trump era of racism towards my people.
i just needed to get this off my chest, i just keep hearing ppl talking about celebrating and fireworks and this all comes to mind everytime. wow, i should write a song cause that ryhmed-
please don't take offense to my thoughts/ opinion.

I got a bit of a loaded question, sis. And if it's inappropriate you can tell me, but you said you're Black and Cherokee, so I thought you might have a good perspective.
Do you have any suggested authors, books, or articles behind what seems to be this lack of Black and Indigenous solidarity? I was scrolling this morning and I saw this post that literally was two seconds from dropping a slur (the dogwhistles were horns) and I'm like ... well damn. White Supremacy works terrible wonders, bc I would think the circumstances that brought our groups together would cause some sort of solidarity, so I'm always blown away when I see stuff like that. With other groups I'm familiar with the reasons behind it, but I don't want to assume things for this one.
Sure thing! I'm also gonna annotate this with my own story and learned knowledge of the struggles I've encountered while trying to expand the understand of my identity at the end.
This awesome article by Amber Starks
All these articles by Alaina E. Roberts she amazing at inner community discussion on this topic along with just being an amazing scholar and writer
This Guardian article by Caleb Gayle (another amazing scholar and author, just anything he's written on the topic will do but this article really helped me understand why I had issues connecting) that explores a case study of a Black family aving to fight for a claim to their indigenous identity with certain tribes that want to erase their history of participating in the chattel slavery of Black people
Also Gayle's book We Refuse to Forget
The book Untangling a Red, White, and Black Heritage by Darnella Davis
The Book Blood Politics by Circe Sturm
All of Zora Neal Hurston's black anthropology films they are free on YouTube or through her foundation site and the Black Film Archive
This article by Rebecca Nagle that explores the history of Cherokee confederates and the community slow acknowledgement and atonement for them
This blog post leads to many other articles and interviews with other Black Natives and their experiences in different tribes
This Kyle Mays interview about the re-establishment of Cherokee Freedmans status (hey that's me) and it impact
These npr articles 1 2 about The fight for tribal rights of Cherokee Freedmans
kararoselles, choctawchickasawfreedmen, and faithcampos on tik tok are incredible too
---
Okay so boom, me personally I am both Cherokee Freedman and by Blood quantum (ick) am Cherokee. However I claim my rights though the Dawes Rolls my great- grandfather enrolled too after emancipation because his father (and 2 aunts) were Cherokee slaves. I only really started connect with the native part of my identity recently (like 3 years)
Growing up I was told a lot of the family stories and raised to do a lot of old school practices that are crossed with being Black and being Cherokee. You drop me off in prairie land or a river side I'm surviving, (I hate it but I can process a deer) I grew up weaving baskets/wicker and doing beading, I know a lot of family recipes that now that I've expanded my knowledge are meals that are mixed between traditional Native American foods and AA cooking. My great-grandfather helped build Grand Lake in OK. My family is even prominently buried in and care takers for 2 Freedman Cemeteries.
But I was always taught that was just part of my and my family's Blackness. I have no living family that aren't Black in some way. Being Native American was an afterthought because of the generational racial trauma. Multiple of my full blood grandmas weren't allowed to have their grandchildren at their homes or on their land because they were Black. My mother often told me stories that her grandmother would sneak them to her home and land to learn how to forage, everytime they left she would cut her hair off to give to them because there was always the threat that they were going to get reported and her rights would be stripped. One of my ancestors is lost because he was a runaway slave from the Cherokee slave trade, many were denied status at some point
It's a lot and it didn't help that when I learned about this side of me and tired to reach out to the Native American club in my school. The Cherokee people there started being very racist to me and dismissed me. It jaded me, it pissed me off, I am still bitter and will probably be until I die.
Because a lot of the problems I advocated for (such as local climate change, environmental degradation, contaminated water, land stealing, food deserts, ect.) We're movements spearheaded by Native Americans in my area. I was denied say or acknowledgement because my issues were "Black issues". If someone told you "Hey this white rancher who had only been here 12 years is illegal trying to destroy a Native American cemetery so he had more graze land for his cows" the trial authority would be on that. But no, since the cemetery is Black Cherokees and Freedman they don't want to claim jurisdiction to help my family save it.
But, I do recognize that there has been a long and important history of Native and Black solidarity from social justice to environmental things. To just the clear fact that Native American people had everything stolen from them by white supremacy while Black Americans were stolen people brought here. Just as there was chattel slavery of Black people in certain major tribes, there were many that protected and supported escaping slaves. That history and cross culture is mine, I've made it one of my side missions to learn more about my Native side's culture, reconnects as some of my older family members are (mostly through folklore learning and connecting the things I was raised to do to Cherokee practices, participating in tribal news/votes ect.) But I haven't got the energy to connect with the people yet, I haven't gone to any in person Circles or powwows. I've only met other Black Cherokees with the intention to have community and friendship with.
Unfortunately but not surprising, the cause of a lack of solidarity comes down to white supremacy and global antiblackness. But I think that is the cause for a lack of ALL POC solidarity with Black people, especially in America.
------
And for the hoteps that are gonna find this post and try to be fucking weird on it.
NO! BLACK PEOPLE (THOSE DESCENDANTS OF THE SURVIVORS OF THE MIDDLE PASSAGE SLAVE TRADE, DEMOGRAPHICALLY CATEGORIZED AS AFRICAN AMERICANS TODAY, MAJORITY OF US) ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL NATIVE AMERICANS OR OTHER INDIGENOUS PEOPLES TO THE AMERICAS
Do NOT be a fucking weirdo and deny the legacy of survival, tragedy, perseverance, and love that our ancestors went through in the past to lead to your lineage of today. I am a special and blessed case to have the family records, story keeping, and DNA testing available to claim my indigenous identity that is directly linked in through my Black identity.
DO NOT BE WEIRD ON THIS POST, THOSE STONE HEADS WITH THICK LIPS ARE NOT WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN MISLED TO THINK THEY ARE. CHEROKEE NATION WAS A DICK BEFORE HOPKINS WAS ELECTED. PLEASE RESEARCH YOUR LINEAGE BEFORE YOU HOP ON MY POST BECAUSE I WILL EMBARRASS YOU WITH THE RECEIPTS OF MINE

From “There Is No Hierarchy of Oppressions”
I was born Black, and a woman. I am trying to become the strongest person I can become to live the life I have been given and to help effect change toward a liveable future for this earth and for my children. As a Black, lesbian, feminist, socialist, poet, mother of two including one boy and a member of an interracial couple, I usually find myself part of some group in which the majority defines me as deviant, difficult, inferior or just plain "wrong."
From my membership in all of these groups I have learned that oppression and the intolerance of difference come in all shapes and sexes and colors and sexualities; and that among those of us who share the goals of liberation and a workable future for our children, there can be no hierarchies of oppression. I have learned that sexism and heterosexism both arise from the same source as racism.
"Oh," says a voice from the Black community, "but being Black is NORMAL!" Well, I and many Black people of my age can remember grimly the days when it didn't used to be!
I simply do not believe that one aspect of myself can possibly profit from the oppression of any other part of my identity. I know that my people cannot possibly profit from the oppression of any other group which seeks the right to peaceful existence. Rather, we diminish ourselves by denying to others what we have shed blood to obtain for our children. And those children need to learn that they do not have to become like each other in order to work together for a future they will all share.
Within the lesbian community I am Black, and within the Black community I am a lesbian. Any attack against Black people is a lesbian and gay issue, because I and thousands of other Black women are part of the lesbian community. Any attack against lesbians and gays is a Black issue, because thousands of lesbians and gay men are Black. There is no hierarchy of oppression.
I cannot afford the luxury of fighting one form of oppression only. I cannot afford to believe that freedom from intolerance is the right of only one particular group. And I cannot afford to choose between the fronts upon which I must battle these forces of discrimination, wherever they appear to destroy me. And when they appear to destroy me, it will not be long before they appear to destroy you.
-Audre Lorde
From Homophobia and Education (New York: Council on Interracial Books for Children, 1983)

This isn’t an abortion or gun problem, this isn’t a left and right problem, this isn’t a difference of opinions problem. This is a government problem.
Our government in the USA is such an outdated and amended mess it needs thrown out completely and started over. Our government doesn’t care about the people. It care about the rich and corporations and to religious extremists.
With this post I’m asking all you for your help in creating a;
Declaration of Revolution and Reform
I hope to push you all into thinking about how the United States government no longer represents the interests of the majority of people and that the governmental systems we have in place now are outdated and no longer fit into our modern society and advancements. Not to mention that the constitution is no longer a gold standard for leading this country and is instead stagnating our advancements and isn’t recognizable to our modern society and values.
The constitution and its amendments are outdated relics and should no longer be used for our future. I believe we need a complete rewritten and redefined governmental documents that fit in with our modern standards and values. The constitution didn’t say anything about black or womens rights or child labor nor healthcare or any form of rights to privacy. I believe due to this it should no longer represent our country and that by keeping these outdated values and opinions for our government we are holding the American people back from moving forward.
Our government is using and abusing its power and its structures to harm the people instead of help them. This in turn no longer represents the values of the American people who believe in our democracy and ability to vote for our rights and all else. The government is allowing the Supreme Court to make decisions that directly affect the American people without the voices of the American people being given the chance to vote on it. Outdated laws that weren’t in effect until the supreme court’s decision triggering on the action of roe v wade is against the American values of democracy and allows for old laws that have long since been socially not accepted or outright unwanted be put into place effective immigration without allowing the voices of the people to choose. This does not represent our country as we see it and our government is allowing these governmental powers to make the decisions without the consent of the people. The constitution no longer represents this country’s values and ideals and it’s only place is as a historic relic and not as a form of governmental practice anymore.
No of this fits with the foundation of the United States and not to mention there are several other issues to be addressed. Electoral college is another highly outdated part of the government as well as how the house and senate work. These governmental systems do not accurately portray or represent the people as they once did as there are many flaws and the systems could use rehauling and review by the American people.
As a reminder as to why a declaration of revolution and reform would be a great opportunity for the entirety of the people of this country is a list of issues which I’m sure many of you could add to;
Housing crisis where corporations or the rich can own multiple homes and apartments and basically squeeze money from people instead of allowing the everyday people the ability to own a place to live, climate crisis and the future of natural disasters and resources which is in desperate need of immediate attention so that current and future generations can thrive, wage gaps and the fact the wealth gap being great than that of the French Revolution, and I could possibly go for days on issues than need urgent attention but because of lobbying and voting windows and all around government departments slowing the processes down or throwing them out for lining their own pockets or their own extremist agendas that do not represent the majority of the American people and just think of all the corruptions within our government and issues at hand.We are in desperate need of Revolution and Reform to make this country once again stand for the ideals of the majority of the American population and its health and safety of its citizens.
So I challenge you all to collaborate and spread this sentiment to other platforms and to anyone who will listen that we desperately need a change in this country that directly reflects our values and society as it is today not as it was years ago. Remember this isn’t about right or left or abortion and guns or anything like that this is about the integrity of this country and the wills and freedoms of the American people and our own future.
This isn’t just about you this for everyone.

We Are Human
A poem by me, Finnley, about oppression.
We need to come together as a nation, a human race.
We need to stop the slamming in this place
"You, you're to fat, you need to lose some weight."
"You, you're skin is too dark, cower in shame."
"You, you're a man, don't show you're pain"
Then they say to let go. Bit we cannot let go.
We must grip it. In our fists, close to our hearts.
We must hold it to account, squeeze out the lies.
Because we are all people. All people.
Beautiful people.
Your skin is beautiful.
Your gender is beautiful.
Your brain is beautiful.
Your sexuality is beautiful.
Your story is beautiful.
Your pain is beautiful.
Your soul is beautiful.
You are beautiful.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
You don't deserve the hate.
They don't get to separate you pain, segregate your fame, take away and take away everything
That you've fought for because you deserve do much more.
Rich or poor, light or dark.
You deserve so much more to life.
You deserve rights.
You are human...

It's not the KKK anymore. It's the CCC and it's even worse. The group of Conservative Caucasian Christians (and those non Christians who just affiliate with the Conservative Caucasian part) are who is destroying our country from the inside out. They are the politicians and their wives, Bible thumping evangelists, actual members of the Klan, executives, CEOs, neighbors, etc....The minority of the population and they are in power. I am sick of the CCC and their affiliates. They hate anybody who isn't a straight white Christian male. Yes, they even hate their wives, mothers, sisters and daughters. We need to unite and vote them out of power in EVERY ELECTION from now on. No more Conservative Caucasian Christian members in politics. They are a cancer on society. We owe it to ourselves, our children and generations to come to stop this nonsense.
