the whole thing with Terry being asian implying that Bruce is asian makes a lot of sense if you assume Gotham is just a much larger version of New York Chinatown. (and then Chinatown is just, you know, Old Gotham, the most central/oldest part.) everyone in Gotham is asian (and a huge number are Chinese).

the Waynes? asian. the Kanes? asian. the Drakes, Gordons, and Foxes? asian. Alfred? came over from Hong Kong. Dick? heavily mixed (including asian) heritage but mostly looks asian. Jason? half because his dad is white. Steph? dyed blonde hair for instagram. Duke? blasian. Damian? actually white on Talia's side.

why do they all have anglophone names? Ellis Island or census data or whatever, the government screws that up all the time. or they have mixed heritage however many generations back. their given names are just a property of American culture. or they actually have slightly different names than represented in the text. (I can go for a good Bruce Wei; that remains an excellent idea.)

like. you look at the art. and you're like. all these asians look the same as the white people. not so! actually they were all asian all along and none of them were white. the only ones who are white are the random background characters that look like Popeye for some reason. that's why they stand out so much

this is actually why the media can't figure out Batman's secret identity. they white defaulted their way into confusing themselves, and only investigate the ten white families in Gotham. Jason got accused of being Robin sixteen times before he was ever adopted. Bernard got invested in figuring this out because the news kept harassing his dad. Harley became a criminal because they asked her to do psych profiles for only those ten families

poc tim hcs are…something. obviously with poc creators, it’s fully valid. but a lot of yt people don’t realize the significance of how certain characters’ races correlate to them. remember that era in which every batfam fan and their mother was spewing latino jason, asian tim, and black steph without thinking of any ramifications?? yeah i was guilty of that too in 2018. i was ignorant. racial headcanons don’t exist in a vacuum, it comes from pre-conceived notions and then a bunch of people follow that in an effort to look “woke”

and a lot of people don’t understand that tim is a self-insert for white people. he was created to cater to a classist white boy audience. and now, i’m sorry, but it’s still mostly white people who relate to him. fanon tim and the blank canon tim that’s appeared past pre-boot exists because that’s what he is.

making tim black or blasian or especially east asian, feels performative imo. like i don’t want to say harmful, but i feel like it’s more meaningful to keep certain characters white, rather than give them a random ethnic identity that you never plan on touching on and exploring. tim was raised wealthy and privileged. tim victimizes himself against a 10 year old brown arab child. these are just facts. you making him black but being unable to tie that into his identity doesn’t make sense. and i know poc who are whitewashed don’t connect to their culture exist, but it comes from a writer’s lack of knowledge or lack of effort most times. just saying that it makes more sense for tim to be white and be characterized accordingly, as opposed to making him a poc just for brownie points.

and don’t even get me started on the east asian tim headcanon bc he’s “smart and techy.” you fell for the model minority myth and that tells me enough 💀

mixed steph in general is <333 Cluemaster is 100% white in my eyes so its probably on her mothers side. I haven't like fully fleshed out this headcanon in art or in my head but i have a semblance of an idea of her being a quarter black and her mom helping her with her hair

Hiyah,Woc!Stephanie anon here!!Sorry for taking a bit to get back to you,i kept forgetting to check the Timsteph tag to see if you'd awnsered😅But yeah,i'm here to explain why i love woc Stephanie and interracial Timsteph <3

Stephanie is an absolutely amazing character.She's an abuse victim who's kind and sweet not because she's 'pure' but because she works hard to be and is always allowed to hate her dad for abusing her and she's also very funny and a genius,as well as strong asf but still very feminine.I think you can see from all these points why she'd definitely be good rep for woc and i see her as jamaican/south korean specifically because we need more blasian rep!There's just something really nice about the thought of a female character who is biracial and not a stereotype but rather her own fully fleshed out character

And for Timsteph,Tim may not always be the nicest person(slightly off topic but i haaaate it when people use that to bash him,he's a 17 year old abuse victim who iirc has never been to therapy,i think he's allowed to be mean sometimes)but it's very obvious that he loves Stephanie and just wants what's good for her,even if he dosen't always know what it is.They had so many cute moments together and words cannot describe how much i love it when black girl are in romances with guys who treat them with the adoration they deserve(and girls too👀but JSHDHF).Also,Tim would absolutely love to learn about Stephanie cultures!!I can just picture him asking dumb but not offensive white boy questions😭

I genuinely think making Stephanie a woman of color is such a great concept, but it has to be handled delicately as you said, not turning her into a stereotype. There are so many fans out there who are POC who handle the headcanon with grace and make compelling posts about it! And then there's the subset of fans, most seem to be white, who specifically headcanon just Steph and Jay as black (and Tim as Asian) and a lot of that seems to be rooted in stereotypes and misunderstandings of the character.

I think like what you said, when you actually get into the layers of Stephanie's character and who she is, her character, there is a lot of good points to be made in favor of her being a WOC. I look at a woman like Chandler Kinney for example, since black headcanons for Steph can be fairly common and I was curious to see who I would see as her, and I'm like, yeah, I can see Steph.

Her intelligence, her determination, her compassion, her boldness, her softness. I think if it were to be done, I'd be happy to see it. I haven't seen any headcanons for Jamaican or Korean and I love that mix for her, I would love to see if you have any fancasts for her since I'm always curious for new takes!

Tim being Mr. Research on her culture is also so sweet, and just being very doting. Like, I'd love love that.

Okay so TO START, just saying: blasian steph, afrolatino Jason. My hair textures hcs

Barbara - 3b she loves her hair but I think she doesn't know how to take care of it. She uses it as pen storage. Has gotten better with it between duke's pained looks and damians loud disapproval.

Dick - 2c his hair is gorgeous but if you stick your hand in it you will lose it. His hair is thick. When he was really little Bruce had no idea what to do with it.

Jason - 3a. Curly but fine. His hair is short so its harder to notice. Damian makes fun of him if he doesn't take care of it.

Tim - 2a uses 3 in one body wash conditioner shampoo on it. Damians worst nightmare.

Steph - 4a I think she loves to do various kinds of locs and braids. She bleaches it blonde and then has to ask damian about the hair oil he has because she refuses to wait long enough to get it bleached again.

Cass - 1c thick but straight. She likes it short because hair on her back startles her by accident.

Duke - 4b or 4c. I've been thinking about it for days and I cannot decide. Its either finer 4c or thicker 4b. He likes to shape it!!! His favourite is to make it a star shape. Sometimes he puts it up so it looks like hes got the same ears as the cowl cause he thinks its funny. He takes good care of it, but its always unnaturally shiny. Sometimes if he uses his powers a bit too much, a couple of strands will just glow for a while, like fiber optics.

Damian - 2b. I think hes jealous of a lot of his siblings having curls actually. Wishes his hair was curlier. Regardless of that he takes METICULOUS care of it. His mom taught him about hair care, and hes one of those people who knows everything about shampoo, conditioner, and hair oil for every hair type.

The reduction of Stephanie Brown down to being just a white blonde girl needs to end.That was never all she was,even back in the Robin 1993 days-Did most of her charactet revolve around Tim at first?Yes but he was literally the protagonist and she was the love interest so it was necessary to make them a big part of eachother's lives to make their romance make sense and she gets more and more fleshed out as the run goes on and this extends to her 90s Yj guest starring,her Detective Comics issues and all the Batgirl runs up until to the point where SHE HERSELF became Batgirl because that's how much of her own character she was by then.You cannot seriously call yourself a Stephanie stan if you read all those years of her life and came to the conclusion that the only important part of her character is her having a 'desirable' hair color by white standards

Stephanie Brown has anger issues and violent tendencies and self-worth issues that she tries her best cope with through presenting herself as having unflincing self-confidence that eventually became real to an extent and the reason for all of this is that she grew up with an abusive dad and a drug addict mom yet she was brave and capable enough to stand up to him by becoming a vigilante at 15 without even having powers or special training and ended up being one of the best Gotham's ever seen anyway.She loves all kinds of food,anything and everything purple and girly,weird things,sports,video games,causing chaos and art.She's a shameless flirt but that dosen't mean she goes for just anyone because she has standards for herself and she refuses to give up on anyone but especially herself even if she wants to sometimes and she got murdered as Robin but Gotham ressurected her because it believed in HER too(Idc about the 'was just in Africa' shit DC tried to pull,that's what actually makes sense with the actual lore)and she's so kind to kids that it blurrs the line between big sister figure and pseudo-mom

And yet nonstop,the Batfam fandom can't look past her hair color-It's always 'the blonde Robin' instead of the girl one,making her listen to fucking Taylor Swift as if she's a not huge feminist both in-universe and in a meta sense,calling her an 'It Girl' and 'Preppy' as if she wasn't either a normal student or a troubled kid depending on the writer and sometimes even both and weird as fuck in literally all her incarnations,reducing Tim's pure and well-intended love for her down to her being conventially attractive and even Cass can't escape it because white wlw can't understand that Stephanie and her are canonically equals on every level so they see her as nothing but Stephanie's woc cheerleader gf who has no existense outside of her

Steph's not written like a soulless Barbie doll with no personality or arcs outside of being a girl,she's multilayered and written like a PERSON.You guys are straight up somehow even more misogynistic to her than DC is and i am NOT going to keep my mouth shut while y'all call removing her entire character to make her a cishet gender stereotyped fantasy 'girlbossing' and especially not canon.This is why i give her black hair and brown eyes in my blasian design for her even though it makes her less recognizable because not only do i want her to actually look like me since half the reason i have that hc for her is that i'm black mixed and she's so much like me in so many ways but also because y'all's obsession with acting like blondeness is a personality trait is weird,gross and deeply unserious.Aaaaaand end rant
