The save Elena gang had gathered into the middle of the woods in secret. “What are we doing here?” Matt asked.
Damon and Stefan came out from behind the trees. “We found some more white oak. Long story. Wait for the movie.”
Elena made a face. “Hang on. White oak? You have a weapon that can kill Klaus?”
“Nope. We all have a weapon.” He throws a bag on the ground and it's full of stakes. “Klaus has always been one step ahead of us. But now we have the advantage. We're all armed, and they are all linked. Meaning we only need to kill one of them. We need to seize the best opportunity, which means we need to prepare for every opportunity.”
Damon stepped forward grabbing Elena. “Scenario number one...you are to play Klaus.”
Elena replied. “Ok.”
Stefan began explaining the scenario. “Rebekah is our target. So we'll distract her and catch her off guard. To do that, we need to keep Klaus separate and occupied. Caroline?”
Caroline questions him, “Why do I always have to be Klaus bait?”
“Because he's obsessed with you. But for right now, we need you to play Rebekah. We'll use the quarterback to distract her. Just keep her talking.” Damon responded by sending her a look. “And we shouldn’t have to worry about that siphoning witch since she basically died during Esther’s failed spell.”
Caroline clicked her tongue at his words. “Well what would happen if she wasn’t dead like we thought?”
“Caroline, what do you mean?” Her best friend asked her.
Damon spun and got in the blonde’s face. “You better tell us what you know because we know you love to talk, blondie.”
“She’s not dead. She’s been passed out for a few days after the spell. Last week Klaus and I went with her to visit her family. As far as I know she’s still visiting her cousin.” She sighed giving the group a pity look. “Seriously though guys can’t we just leave Raelyn out of this. The poor girl has enough on her plate and we shouldn’t be trying to make her life worse.”
Damon nodded going behind the blonde. “Beefcake holds bombshell , I come up from behind her, grab her arms like this...She’s a witch and can stop all of us. In case you forgot she was able to drop all the Originals to their knees.” He wrapped her arms around her back tightly.
Caroline grunts. “Ow!”
Stefan goes toward her with a stake. “Which gives me time for one shot. Got it? Good. So we all have one stake, we keep it hidden and we look out for any opportunity we have.”
Damon made a serious look to Elena and Matt. “No last minute attacks of pity for any of them.”
Stefan explained pulling out a stake for each of them where the others walked off leaving Caroline and Elena alone for a brief moment. “We have 12 stakes. 12 shots at killing one original. We can do this.”
“You don’t see her as the bad guy do you?” Elena asked, wrapping her arms around herself. “I mean she’s never been mean to me, brutally honest with me but she’s never hurt me like Klaus has. What does she see in him?”
Her blonde friend responded. “I don’t know but she seems to trust him a lot considering they are trying to date. And they may have kissed once.”
“Then why exactly is she spending so much time with her cousin?” For that the blonde vampire didn’t have an answer.
Raelyn’s POV
Running my thumb over the veins growing up on my arm I lifted my head staring at my cousin as she flipped through pages of our Coven’s grimoire. “Anything yet?”
“Unfortunately the only thing that I can tell you is that the spell Esther used was filled with dark magic. That’s why the veins are black on your arms. As for how to reverse something like that I don’t know anything remotely close.” She sighed lifting up one of the pages resting a hand on her forehead frustrated.
Throwing my head back I slumped in my chair tapping my fingers on the arm rest. “I hate to ask but could Luke or Olivia come and maybe help reverse it?”
“They’re not siphons, Rae. That’s what you need and in your case the only other siphon in this world is-“
I snapped my finger at her, raising my voice until my phone started ringing and I saw it was Klaus. “Don’t mention her name. My mother cannot be trusted and I refuse to ask for her help. Uh hang on, hi Klaus!”
“Woah watch that tone with me, Love. I was calling to see how things are going over there with your supposed witchy cousin. And are you planning on coming home anytime soon?” He asked me through the phone.
Putting the phone on speaker I sat it down on her desk mouthing ‘Don’t tell him anything please’. “Yes I’m gonna come home in about an hour don’t worry. As for my time with Jo, why doesn’t she talk?”
“Hey Klaus, right. Raelyn and I have just been catching up since we haven’t seen each other in a while. But nothing serious at all.” My cousin responded trying to remain calm since he was a vampire and could hear her heartbeat just like mine. “Maybe one day you and I can officially meet and I can tell you some embarrassing stories about Rae Rae.”
Raising my hands I snatched the phone from her hands pressing the phone back to my ear. “Ha ha she’s funny. So what is up. Do you need something from me?”
“Besides me just missing my supposed girlfriend nothing too serious I just would care to have your assistance with getting the Bennett witch to unlink me and my siblings. Perhaps you could sweet talk her with your magical voice.” He hummed into my ear where I swore I could hear the smile in his voice when he spoke to me.
Jo had started flipping through more pages of her book watching me until I hung up the phone with him. “Fine, I’m heading home now. Bye.”
“I’ll keep in touch with you, Rae. Don’t ever think that I am not here for you. No matter whether my father wants you to be the leader or not. It’s your life, you need to start living it.” She embraced me in one last hug and I hugged her back wrapping my arms around her heading for my car. The drive back wasn’t too bad where I quickly parked in the driveway I entered the Mikaelson mansion.
Klaus vamped into the main living room hearing me shut the front door. “There’s my girl. How was your trip?” He wrapped his arms around me holding me in his embrace longer than when I had left this morning.
“It’s only been a day. Are you always going to be this clingy when I go visit her?” I chuckled, squeezing his waist with my arms around him nuzzling my face into his chest lifting my head up smiling.
He kissed the crown of my head breaking the hug still holding my hand leading me through the house until we entered another room where I saw Bonnie standing around a round table with candles in the middle that were lit up. “Possibly all the time, yes, little siphon. I rather enjoy your company more than most people in my life…Tick tock. I should hear chanting by now.”
Bonnie grumbled leaning over the table reading from another witch book. “I'm still studying the unlinking spell. It's not that easy, especially under duress.”
Klaus dropped my hand allowing me to stand beside the couch leaning closer to her ear threatening her slowly. “You've been warned. If you're looking for a way to send for help, I will kill anyone who comes to your rescue.”
“This is the spell. I just don't know if I'm strong enough.” She shouted in his face walking away from him, pointing her index finger at me. “And if you’re so concerned with getting the spell done then get her to do it for you!”
Klaus glanced at her speaking to her. “Then you should have a little more faith in yourself, Bonnie. Your energy helped my mother link us. Honestly, I think someone isn't trying very hard.”
“What does that have to do with getting your supposed girlfriend doing the spell!” She crossed her arms over her chest walking away from him.
He crossed his arms over his chest while I moved towards the table feeling the strong magical energy radiating off the grimoire. “Raelyn took a nasty hit from my mother being able to consume the magic from the linking spell you and your mother helped her with. So I don’t want to push more than we need to when I have you here. “
Bonnie remained silent while I ran my hand across one of the pages placing my other hand near one of the burning candles. I jumped with a scream when the flames grew without me doing anything. “Argh!” The sleeve of my red flannel on my right arm rolled up where I yanked it down quickly before either of them could see.” Klaus gestured with his arms out in my direction as a way to tell her I told you so.
“Very well Kol. How's the weather up there in mile high city? And how's our friend?” He shows his phone to Bonnie. Jeremy is playing with a dog. “That's him. There's Jeremy. Playing fetch with his new puppy. Isn't that just the most adorable thing you've ever seen? Thank you, Kol. We'll be in touch.”
Wrapping my arms around myself I shuffle my feet away from the table with my heart beating faster sending Klaus a concerned look. “You’re okay. You’re okay…” I kept telling myself over and over fighting the urge to use my magic to just disappear up into my bedroom.
Klaus asked the witch, shifting his attention away from me. “So, Bonnie. How about that spell?”
Turning on my heels I headed into the back of the house knowing that he would bicker with her for quite awhile before we got to the spell. Placing my hand on the door to the basement I siphoned the magic walking down the stairs until I found my mother laying out under a sleeping spell done by Esther. Bending down on my knees I placed my hands on her chest mumbling softly. “Surgere!”
She quickly shot upright frantically looking around until she focused her gaze onto me. “Raelyn, what happened. Where am I?”
“In a cellar in Mystic Falls. Now I am not here to bicker with you but I need your help with something that no one else can do.” I explained rolling my sleeves up showing her the dark veins where she gasped.
“Oh Rae. What the hell…who did this to you?” She covered her mouth with her hands crying lightly.
Brushing hair from my face I slumped my shoulders. “It’s a long story but basically my boyfriend’s mother was trying to kill him and his siblings. I knew I could siphon the magic from her. I guess it was much stronger than I first thought. I just touched his mothers grimoire and the candles around it shot up like a rocket meaning something isn’t right with me.”
“That amount of magic running through your veins you should be dead. Unless….you took your brother's strength and abilities to siphon too.” She wiped away some tears holding out her hands for me. “Give me your hands, I’ll take it from you.”
I started to move forward then drew my hands back. “Let’s make something very clear once you help me. You will leave and never come back.”
“Rae, sweetheart-“
“You can’t be trusted. I talked with Josette and she said that her father visited her. But you were with him looking for me. I’m sorry mother but after today I can’t see you anymore if I want to have a life away from our psycho Coven.” I responded placing my hands on top of hers fighting back some tears that this would be the last time I would ever see her.
She squeezed my hands in hers closely paying attention when my hands turned red along with hers sharing our siphoning energy. "I just want you to know that I am sorry for being the person to cause you such pay. No mother does that to her child…“Phasmatos tribum exum sue redem su pas quo. Phasmatos-"
"Raelyn, my brother says that Bonnie is about to do the spell and she says she needs your help!" Rebekah banged on the door causing us to yank our hands away from each other not completing the transfer.
My mother Eliza began to rise to her feet about to head for the door. “What spell are they having you do now. We need to finish our spell before this gets worse.”
“Ad somnum, mother.” I raised my hand grabbing her shoulder siphoning from her where she collapsed into my arms with me lowering her body back onto the floor. “The less you know the better.”
Opening the door Rebekah went back upstairs where I made my way back to where Klaus and Bonnie were hearing him threatening her. “But isn't it obvious that I'm just going to continue to hurt the people you love until you do the spell. Now, I know it's in the grimoire, and I know it requires the blood of my siblings, so. Here we are." He takes a leather case and opens it. It contains 4 flasks of blood pointing out each one. "Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, Finn." Finally biting into his wrist letting his blood poor. "Where do you want us?"
She takes a glass and leaves Klaus' blood poor in it. "Raelyn, give me your hand please.”
Placing my hand in hers she winced slightly, eyeing our intertwined hands and the red grow that was coming from them. “So what are we saying exactly?”
“Just repeat after me.” She began chanting and closed her eyes but I kept mine opened. “Phasmatos tribum nas ex veras uenes fes matos et somnos. Ex totum ex um maleo matos.”
Moving my gaze down to the table she had poured all their blood together into one circle in the center of the burning candle circle. The blood began to separate when the candles flames grew during the moment I joined her chanting.“Phasmatos tribum nas ex veras uenes fes matos et somnos. Ex totum ex um maleo matos…..Phasmatos tribum nas ex veras uenes fes matos et somnos. Ex totum ex um maleo matos.”
Klaus leaned against the wall, arms crossed watching the two witches perform the spell that separated their blood from one another. Meaning that he wouldn't be tied down by his siblings anymore. Yet that wasn’t what had piqued his interest during the last few minutes of the spell. His eyes trained on Raelyn following her arms until he could see something dark appearing on her hands and some up her neck that looked to be like veins making him scared for the first time in his immortal life. “What have you been keeping from me, love?” He asked himself quietly.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

summary: you have to make a deal with Kai to save Elena after he kidnaps her
Tumblr media
You’re speeding down the street to your old high school, praying that the fire burning in your gut would sustain you when you finally confront Kai Parker. When you overheard Damon and Bonnie discussing Elena’s disappearance in hushed voices, you immediately knew this had Kai’s name written all over it. Though unsure of how kidnapping Elena fit into his master plan, you knew the outcome could be catastrophic if someone didn’t intervene soon and it would be your fault.
While the others waited on Jo to concoct a proper plan, you slipped quietly out the front door. Sneaking around wasn’t your norm, but you couldn’t risk Damon or Bonnie trying to stop you. Your circle of friends couldn’t seem to wrap their heads around your being anything other than Bonnie’s useless little sister, often sheltering you from the dangers of the supernatural world. You knew they meant well but you couldn’t shake the feeling that they underestimated you and the constant need to prove yourself loomed over as you didn’t want to be the weakest link and a burden.
Still, if you had run your “plan” by them, they’d be right in telling you it was a suicide mission. Even as a Bennett witch, you’re no match for Kai, especially after he sucked up all the magic from the boundary spell on the town. His body’s teeming with it all the way down to his fingertips and paired with his moral depravity, he’s scarier than the devil. Even Damon, who was known to act on impulse- especially when it came to Elena- opted to come up with a plan instead.
Your doubt doesn't hit you until you enter the school. The low lights and empty halls, save for a few crumpled papers on the floor, creates an ominous ambience that sets you on edge. You turn your head and jump from every noise or movement you see from the corner of your eye. You’re unsure if he knew you were here and was just toying with you. It was always a game with Kai, like he got some sick amusement from stalking his prey before putting them out of their misery.
So what’s your plan when you did finally find him? Surely he’d torture you right along side Elena if not kill you dead on the spot for wasting his time. He’d already made it abundantly clear that you meant nothing to him- even after all you’d gone through together.
You met him in the 1994 prison world and naively believed every lie he told. You chose to not only help him but befriend him. That quickly turned into something much more- or at least it was for you- falling victim to his witty charm and seductive eyes. Early on, it was long conversations they had you feeling like you’d known him forever soon devolving into him eyefucking you over dinner before placing you on the table and feasting on your gooey center for dessert. He took pleasure in corrupting your innocent mind with his intoxicating advances until you were addicted to him, taking advantage of your fogged up instincts so that you never realized he was just using you.
That is, until you did the spell. When you both crossed the threshold between worlds it was like a switch went off in his head. He changed, becoming cruel and sardonic, no sign of the thoughtful guy you cared for behind those empty eyes. You were just a means to an end who had served her purpose.
Nonetheless you continue on, though warily. Part of you refuses to believe he’s just a heartless sociopath, that maybe there’s a shred of the guy you met weeks ago still inside him that you could reason with.
You hear the rumbling of the vending machine around the corner. Peaking your head out, you see him bending over to lift a can of soda before cracking it open and taking a casual sip like he didn’t have a hostage he was torturing somewhere in the school. You can’t help but notice the way the gray MFHS tee was tight along his back, hugging his biceps as they flexed, each rope along his defined arms you had memorized by touch. He’s already distracting you and he isn’t even trying.
He suddenly glances back and you duck behind the wall, hoping he didn’t see you. Your heart knocks around against your ribs as a fear takes root like the anticipation of certain death mixed with the self consciousness of bumping into an ex. You want to run but you thought of Elena and your guilt turns your stomach sour. You take a sharp breath and turn, stopping abruptly before your nose collides with the middle of his chest.
“Hey, Rosy. This is a surprise..” Kai scrutinizes you under his hardened gaze, openly raking his eyes down your body.
He sips at his drink while you gather at your words, only a timid “hi…” squeaking past your lips.
Kai lowers his soda once he drains it and tosses the husk into the nearby recycling before crossing his arms, head cocked in amusement with a crooked smile playing on his lips. “What are you doing here? No wait- let me guess, you couldn’t get enough of me, huh?”
Your throat goes dry and you shake your head, “NO- no… it’s not like that- I-”
He waves his hand flippantly, “Relax.. I’m just fucking with you, so what can I do you for?”
“I know you have Elena, and I want you to let her go.”
“And why would I do that?” He sneers.
You avert your eyes, shifting your weight between each foot hesitantly. “..because it's the right thing to do…”
Kai pauses before breaking into a brief yet boisterous fit of laughter, clutching his chest while your face burns in humiliation. He continues in a condescending tone, “God, you're cute, but if that’s really all you’ve got, let me give you some advice: go home before things get ugly.” He turns his back to you and starts walking away.
“If you let her go.. you can have me instead!” you blurt out.
Kai stops in his tracks and looks over his shoulder. The glint in his wicked eyes making you swallow the lump growing in your throat. “Let me get this straight, you want to trade places with Elena? But why? You don’t even like her that much… oh-ohhh i get it..” he scoffs.
“What?” you stare back in confusion.
“This is all one big ploy you came up with to get my attention. You really can’t get me out of your system, can you? Not that I blame you..” He’s far too cocky for his own good but your bewildered expression isn’t doing you any favors.
Heat rises to your face as you ignore his comments, “the magic you siphoned will only last so long before you need to replenish and I offer myself as a renewable source.”
He let out a sigh, tapping his chin as if he were really mulling this idea over when in reality, he already made up his mind. In fact, the moment he sensed your presence, he had not intentions of letting you go.
“Deal.”
Tumblr media
Kai drags you to the cafeteria where you find Elena. Her eyes light up when she sees you, arms tied behind her back with tightly wound vervain ropes.
You watch him, praying he’ll keep up his end of the bargain. He lifts his hand and utters a short spell until the ropes withered away. “You’re free to go. Little Bennett just bailed you out.”
Elena’s speechless, staring between the two of you while all you could offer was a smile that you hope comes off as more reassuring than apologetic. She knew Bonnie would absolutely freak if she left her little sister with the murderous sociopath, but before she can open her mouth to argue, Kai grows impatient and chants the motus incantation while swinging his arm back. Elena’s body is propelled out the doors, leaving the two of you. alone.
He rubs his palms as he returns to you. “There. a deal’s a deal.”
You peer up at him through thick eyelashes, just waiting, unsure what for. Typically when he looked down at you like this, your next move would be to sink to your knees and it seemed that old habits die hard as you struggle to resist the wayward urge.
He raises an eyebrow with a smirk, “aren’t you at least gonna try to run?”
You lift your chin with a defiant air. “I'm not scared of you.”
Kai reaches out and snatches your forearm, siphoning your magic so fast that it burns up through your skin, the pain makes you cry out. You wrench yourself free as he lets go, sending you stumbling slightly before you regain yourself and dart out the room.
Kai calmly begins his pursuit. “Things just got a lot more interesting.”
The classrooms go by in a blur, you're hoping Elena was long gone by this point as you aren’t sure if running away breaks the guidelines of your deal, though you wouldn’t put anything past Kai. Your heart steadies once you dip into the library, hoping to hide within the maze of book shelves. When you hear his low footsteps approaching, your stomach drops. His lackadaisical humming fills the space. This is a game to him. Your breathing slows as you silently plan your next move.
“They always try to hide…” he tsks. “C’mon dollface, I know you're in here…” he taunts. You watch his shadow move closer and slide out from behind the shelf, making a beeline for the fire extinguisher you noticed on the far wall.
Before you make it halfway across the aisle, screens of fire emerging on either side of your body intersect, making you reel back before the scorching flame. You're trapped.
“Okay, enough running. I'm bored now.”
You panic as he blocks the only path out of the circle with his body.
“I just want you to stop hurting my friends and Jo and the twins-“
His hand flies out and closes around your windpipe, trapping your words in your throat and all you can do is claw helplessly at his forearm.
“I’m sorry but you know my family’s a soft spot for me. Perhaps we should talk about us instead.. or better yet, not talk at all..”
Your body goes taut when you feel his hand snake up your thigh, fingers stopping to toy with the waistband of your panties, reveling in how he silently riles you up by snapping it against your skin.
You meet his dark cerulean eyes as he slackens his hold on your neck, allowing you to finally suck in a full breath as he tilts your head back and drags his thumb across your lower lip, he’s so close you can feel the heat of his breath ghosting across your face but you're still too stubborn to give in to the desire to taste him.
“That’s not why I came,” you rasp out, looking away.
You whimper when he closes his palm over your sex. “Sometimes plans change. frankly, I can think of a way better use of your time than trying to appeal to my humanity ‘cause listen baby, it’s never gonna’ happen.”
You don’t even notice the fire go out around you while your body still burns under his touch. He slots your panties aside and strokes your bare slit up to your bud, it’s pulsing and touch-starved. his mouth captures yours in a bruising kiss, his tongue invading every area of your mouth as your arousal pools in his hand.
“I thought you were gonna’ make this difficult for me,” he husks, making you pout, shake your head, wanting to push him away just so he wouldn’t have the satisfaction of making you cum but he plays your body expertly, melting your resolve until you’re sent into a full blown relapse of need. You abandon your pride and pull him closer, carding your fingers through his dark locks.
His feral touch consumes you, the outline of his cock brushes your inner thigh with every impatient rut of his hips. You let out a whine of surprise when he lifts you and pins you back into the nearest shelf. He flips up your skirt and makes quick work of his belt while dropping your panties around your ankles.
His fingers dig into the flesh of your hips while dragging you down into each thrust, your pussy gushing obscenely while you weep softly into the crook of his neck. Even with your ample arousal, the sting of his intrusion takes a moment to give way to that familiar pressure that makes heat pool in your abdomen as your pussy hungrily swallows each thrust.
The feeling intoxicates you like an electrifying high that was all consuming, overriding any sense of self-preservation. “I love you,” you let slip in a small breathy voice.
He stiffens but doesn’t dare stop. “Shut up,” he grunts while driving his cock so hard the shelf rattles. “Don’t ruin this for me.”
You let out a choked sob, tears spilling down as you anchor yourself to him.
“Shh.. don’t cry.. Look, I’ve been really generous. I didn’t have to let Elena go. I could’ve fucked you right in front of her, let her go back and tell everyone what a slut I made of you.”
He aims deliberately at your g-spot, watching your face for every reaction as he edges you closer to your release.
“Cum on my cock, baby… that’s it.. atta’ girl,” he coaxes you gently, cooing in your ear. You ignite, scratching down his biceps as you let go, tremoring from the inside out in sharp waves until he slows and finally let’s you come down.
Shame instantly fills your veins, becoming deeply aware of your sticky thighs and mascara stained cheeks. But he isn’t finished. He grabs your leg and hikes your knee up to your chest before angling his hips and burying himself deep.
“Fucking hell, Kai! Ah- It’s too much…” you bite out as your puffy overstimulated walls clench down.
He reaches up to choke you, laughs and mocks your pathetic whimpers. “Isn’t this what you wanted, baby... my undivided attention? N-no? You little liar…”
His pelvic bone stims your swollen clit and that’s enough to send you into another spiral. His forehead pressed to yours as he moans softly and grows sloppy. Your pulsing cunt causes him to twitch inside you with a groan, his cum spilling into you before giving a few light thrusts and pulling out. You feel his spend dribble down your inner thighs, falling in droplets to the carpet.
He kneels down and pulls your panties up over your hips, ruining the garment.
“I sshould go home,” you say when you finally catch your breath.
You wait, but he doesn’t move to let you go. Then his mouth forms a domineering smile that shows each of his sharp teeth.
“No chance dollface. We had a deal.”

Undivided Attention: Captain Price
John Price x AFAB!Reader | TF141 x AFAB!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masterlist | Gaz |Price | Ghost
MDNI!!!
You had been separated from the team, mostly due to you pushing your captain out of the way of another solider attempting to strike him, while wresting with the man the two of you fell off a ledge, last thing you heard was John yelling your name before slamming into the ground and loosing consciousness for a moment. You all had been looking for reports or a nuclear bomb that was in the midst of being sold to Russian terrorists. Coming to, you quickly moved to look around yourself remembering who you had fallen with, seeing them laying by you, you turned them over and they had fallen on their knife, impaling themselves in the throat. Shaking your head you made to get up flinching, "Fuck." Groaning you hobbled around corners, occasionally having to fight for your life, hearing a group making their way down a hall, more than you knew in that moment you could realistically handle, you made to try and hide in any of the rooms around you, but the doors were locked. Huffing you leaned behind a pillar, tears building at your eyes, even though you knew death was a guarantee with this work, your heart wasn't ready, you never got to tell any of the lads how you truly feel, you didn't get to even say good bye. John.
Oh, you know John will rot with this, his mind will never let him forget this, you wished there was something you could do for him, make your death less of a burden, a weight. He never wanted to let you come here, but you insisted, you had been growing restless at the base, promising to stay glued to their side and out of harms way yet you threw yourself right into the way. Grabbing your hand gun you checked the magazine hitting your head back, out, patting yourself down you groaned grabbing your tactical knife from your hip, waiting till they were closer. Getting a hold of the end of a AK47 you turned out knife about to go straight into the guys throat before you froze, it was, "John?"
"Y/N, oh god." Wrapping you tightly into him you wrapped your arms around his waist, trying not to wince at the force of his embrace. "Come on." Picking you up he turn and they started making their way out back to their Ronda Vue point for Nikolai to pick them up. Grunting with each rapid movement and step up some stairs, you looked up to Johnny, he looked so damn sad and worried, made you ache, wanting to comfort him, comfort all of them. Getting to the top of the building, John handed you to Simon before you were set into a seat and strapped in, "Let's go, now!"
---
You were taken to med bay by Simon, Johnny and Kyle, they stuck by your side the whole time as you were stitched up, wrapped up and given tests. Your arm was put into a sling after noticing that you had indeed broken your right clavicle you were brought into a back room to have a plate screwed to the outside of the bone. You were knocked out when the lads say you next, had been for a few hours, they never left you, John was still away, where none of them was sure, most likely holed up in his office burying himself in work and papers.
When you did come to, you reassured the guys, apologizing and hugging each of them, the door closed and locked, blinds drawn close as Simon carefully held you, kissing your head. "Where's Cap?"
"Probably in his office." Kyle said, his hands on your back and hips. Moving to get out of the bed he tightened his grip slightly stopping you. "Where r'you goin?"
"Check on him, I'm fine, truly, guys, let me go." Pushing their hands from you, you gasped as you tried to wrap your button up around your shoulders. "Shit."
"Here bon." Johnny helped you set the shirt around you, "You sure you don't want to rest a bit more bonnie?"
"I'll be fine Johnny, thank you. You guys know I've been through worse." You chuckled as you unlocked and left the room, all of them close to you, glued like guard dogs, everyone making a clear path for you. Nearing John's office you ushered them away, knocking on the door and not hearing anything you stepped in and looked around confused when you didn't see him inside. Now making your way to his room you knocked as you slowly opened the door and looked in, hearing the shower from his bathroom.
Closing the door and locking it behind you, you went to the bathroom and stood in the door frame frowning, "Captain."
His head spun around so fast you were sure you heard a crack, "What are you doing?"
"Came to check on you." Walking in some more you looked into his eyes, he looked so pained staring into you, before they went down and took in your arm and collarbone. Shrugging the shirt off slowly, you used you good arm to undo the sling taking it off.
"What are yo-"
"Help me with my shirt will you?" Stepping right into the shower with him, the water splashing off his shoulders and head hitting you, his scowl deepened, as he opened his mouth to speak you rested your hand on his cheek, "John, help me?" His hands were more gentle than ever as they guided your clothes off of you, kneeling down undoing your boots and tossing each soaked piece of clothing out of the shower.
"You should be resting." Standing back up he retracted his hands moving to make room for you under the water.
"I will, after this." Stepping back into his space, you pushed your hand into his stomach before gliding your fingers through his chest hair and then gripping his shoulder pulling him to you. "Y/N."
"Don't pull from me John, I'm fine, everything's okay. I'm sorry, truly, it's my fault, I nev-"
"Stop." Closing his eyes he tilted his head back, "You've nothing to apologize for darling, this is my fault."
"It's not your f-"
"I said you wouldn't be out on the field, I caved, you got hurt protecting me when I promised I would protect you. This should've never happened, not for me or because of me." His eyes were so broken, voice almost cracking in the end, guiding him back to you, you leaned up onto your tips gently kissing him.
"You've up held to your promise John, there's nothing you could've ever done to prevent me from protecting you. As much as you don't want anything happening to me, I don't want anything to happen to you, to any of you. As I belong to you all, ALL of you belong to me too." You used your good arm to wrap up and around his shoulders, your right arm carefully going to his waist and massaging his lower back, whatever you could comfortably reach you did.
"Darling." Leaning the both of you under the water, he kissed you, enveloping you into his arms. Reaching his hands down to behind your thighs you grabbed his bicep and jumped, wrapping your legs around his hips he leaned back, his back hitting the wall, locking his lips with yours, tongues slowly easing into the others mouth. Each moment the two of you would pull back for a gasp of breath your would continue to reassure him, claiming him, the team, telling him continuously that you belong to them, calming his nerves, kissing the anger fueled tears from his cheeks. He wasn't mad at you, couldn't ever be, he was angry at himself, your words soothing his soul.
Feeling the water start to cool against both of your skin, John slid your hips up along him a little more groaning as your slit dragged along his shaft, holding you to him he turned the water off and stepped out, grabbing a towel setting you on the counter drying you. Before he tossed the towel, you grabbed it from him and returned the favor also patting him dry smiling when he kissed along your neck, jaw, shoulders and laying gentle kisses to your collarbone. Shuddering at the soft touch you let the towel slide from your fingers as you drift your fingers into his hair lightly clenching and redirecting his lips back to yours, picking you back up he carried you to his bed, ever so carefully laying you on your back in the middle, bringing the other spare pillow he had under your hips.
As gentle as he was being you could feel the tremble in his body, unsure of if it's just being a build up of passion or something else you tried to move your hips with his, arching your back into him as your clit rubbed against the tip of his dick. "Don't move, I'll take care of you." Pouting as you watched him kiss a trail down your stomach and hip you moved your legs for him, moving your hips up the hip as his hand gently slapped your pussy making you gasp, surprised. "Darling, don't move."
"But..." Looking to the side before looking back to him, "You want more, right? I'm fine, you can take me how you need Captain."
Huffing he pushed back up, "Y/n, you're hurt."
"But I'm FINE, take me, if it gets to be too much, I'll say my safe word. ... Take me Captain." You were pushing him again, just like you had when you begged to go on the mission, his body itching as he grabbed the back side of your left knee he pushed it up to your chest slapping your cunt a little harder this time.
"You are damn stubborn sweat heart, I tell you no again and yet you keep pushing. You never want to listen, I'm trying to look out for you, why won't you let me do this for you." Slapping your cunt again a little harder again, you gasped jolting, "Begging me to just fucking take you, you'll say your safe word? What if you can't?" You clenched around nothing just before he moved your leg to the side a little more exposing your clit and slapped down making you moan, "I'll take you darling, I'll fucking take you but damnit Y/N. Why must you push me?" Pouting you looked down, watching as he lined himself up and started easing into you. "Fuck." Grunting the both of you jerked into the other panting as he slowly moved in and out of you, your slick collecting around the base of his cock.
"John." Huffing your hips started moving, meeting his, the sound of skin slapping ringing in your ears making your head spin from how much he was stretching you. Feeling his fingers dig into your hips he pushed your hips down into the pillow growling.
"No moving damnit, urgh, gonna make me lose it darling. You want to cum?"
"Yes, please, Captain, please sir." Feeling his dick twitch against your gummy walls you moaned, "Captain."
John swirled his fingers around your clit, lightly pinching it, a small twist before pushing his thumb into you drawing circles. Arching up from the bed you whined cumming, walls spasming around him, he didn't relent as he continued to riding out your orgasm. Huffing he drew your legs up to his chest, pushing down to you, he gripped your neck, squeezing the sides, "Again darling, come on." Slamming his hips down your cunt started squelching, taking each thrust you rolled your eyes back trying to arch into him and move your hips but with his weight over you, you couldn't move. Feeling him squeeze your throat a little tighter you gasped grabbing his forearm moaning, "Darling." Loosening his hold your grabbed the side of his face and pulled him down kissing him.
Breathing heavily the both of you pulled back and came, John grasping the pillow under your head pushing his forehead into yours grunting after he picked his rhythm back up, overstimulating the both of you, "Oh, John, wait..." As you whined, he pulled out, sliding you onto your left side, laying behind you, raising your leg and slinging it back and over his thigh. Taking labored breathes you moved your hips back into him moaning when he helped guide you this time rather than try and stop you, "Oh John, yes, good." Feeling his hips picked up, your body getting jostled, the sheets getting kicked and pushed to the floor, the pillow that had been under your hip also being pushed to the ground.
John slid his arm under and around you neck, putting you into a choke hold from behind, your third orgasm flooding over you, your body shaking as he didn't stop. Gasping you grabbing the bed sheet and trying to push his forearm only making him grunt, "No, you're going to stay right here, fuck. Right here, where I can see you, hold you." Scowling you tried to hold out but when your fourth orgasm was slowly building up already you felt tears prick at your eyes, your cunt felt too raw, already clenching so tightly around him, his girth stinging slightly more than the pleasure that was building. Huffing you tried pushing again against his arm, before shaking violently against his front whining patting his arm.
"Red, John, red please." Gasping you gathered your breath as he froze, his hips pushed flesh against you. Feeling him slowly pull out of you, you whined when he pulled away, collecting the blanket from the ground and the other pillow, he got back in behind you gently massaging your hips.
"I'm sorry darling."
"You did nothing wrong John, Just over stimulated a bit quick today is all." You interlocked your fingers with his smiling as he wrapped his arms around you gently.
"You're too good for me, Y/N."
"No, you are ... me." Your eyelids growing heavy, you yawned and snuggled back a little more into him before falling into sleep.
"No, you truly are, for any of us, you deserve better."

Tumblr media
You don’t know what it is, something about him just makes you giddy. Ever since the merge, he’s mellowed out immeasurably, and while he still annoys your friends, you’ve found something endearing about him. Kai, of course, is still Kai. He’s reckless, and troublesome, and doesn’t make a lot of considerations before doing things, but he’s getting better about it. He has somewhat of a grip on his emotions now, which is helping as he integrates himself into life in Mystic Falls.
Initially, Damon assumed he’d go back to Portland after the merge, but something told you that wasn’t a possibility. Everyone knows how the Parkers grew up, either from Liv, Luke, Jo, or Kai himself. The story varies between siblings, but at least two truths in the matter remain the same: their family is tragically dysfunctional, and the coven always comes first. So why would Kai, hated by his family and his coven, return to his hometown?
Damon heaves a big sigh when you remind him of this.
“So what do you suppose we do about him?” The man ponders out loud.
“Keep an eye on him; see how this goes. But let him figure things out here, I guess,” Elena says.
“Ugh.”
“What other options do we have?”
You and Bonnie look over to him, and the couples’ gaze quickly follows. Kai drinks alone at the bar, scrolling his phone and bouncing his knee. He’s turned in such a way that you can see one of the dimples in his cheeks everytime he smiles. When he catches the bartender’s attention to show him something, Bonnie groans. You bite your cheek to not smile.
“We can’t just kill him?”
“Not without killing Jo,” Elena reminds her friend.
A collective groan now rings throughout the table, but your eyes are still on him.
“Alright, I’m gonna go to the girls’ room. Drank too much at once.”
Elena’s words register with you as she stands. You then stand up, too, putting your napkin on the table. “I need to go too.”
She smiles, and the two of you leave Damon and Bonnie alone.
You wash your hands side-by-side, and then Elena starts to fix her makeup in front of the mirror. You take the extra minute to touch up your own.
“I can tell you have a crush on him,” she says suddenly.
“What?” A jolt runs down your spine, and you poke your eye with your mascara brush. “Ow!”
She has the nerve to laugh. “You okay?”
“Not funny!”
“Case in point - that reaction.”
“I do not have a crush on him.”
“Y/N.”
“I don’t!”
“You’ve been watching him all night. I heard your heart rate calm when I said to let him stay here, and it sped up when Bonnie suggested to kill him. Not to mention, I can see the way you bite your cheeks to not smile at him. And don’t think I didn’t catch the glossy, lovesick look in your eyes yesterday when he winked at you from across the grill. Your heart sped up then, too.”
You can only blink at the slew of evidence stacked against you. The fact she noticed all these things and compiled a list of them takes you aback.
“I see all, Y/N,” she jokes playfully.
“Fine. I might have a minor crush on him.”
“It is not minor.”
“Might have a Corgi-sized crush on him.”
“I see more like a Great Dane sized crush, but okay.”
Your eyes widen. “Elena!”
She only laughs. “To be honest, I’m kind of offended that you don’t think I can read you. We’ve been friends for how many years…?” She starts counting on her fingers.
“Okay, point made, you can read me! What are you gonna do about it?” Your tone is much more concerned than challenging.
“What?”
“My, y’know,” you lower your voice, “crush. What are you gonna do? Tell Damon? Bonnie? Hell, Kai?”
“Of course not, that’s between us. But I think you should tell him.”
“Who?”
“Kai.”
“Oh absolutely not.”
“Why not? Because he’s a sociopath, or because you can’t approach him without blushing?”
“Elena!”
“Which is it?!”
“I don’t know! Both, I guess. Mostly the latter.”
“Well you’ve said it yourself a hundred times, he’s getting better with his emotions. Understanding them more. You could have a chance.”
“You don’t sound so certain.”
“I am! It happened with Damon.” Your eyes narrow, and she continues. “Damon was borderline sociopathic only a couple years ago, remember? When they first arrived in town, and I was with Stefan, and he wreaked absolute havoc everywhere he went. But I still developed a crush on him, and he fell for me, and I then fell completely for him, and look at us now. If you want him, the least you can do is talk to him.”
The reminder gives you hope. Maybe Kai could follow the same path Damon did. Maybe you could have something with him. Elena’s apparent support of it helps. Still…
“‘Lena, I can’t go up to him and start a conversation, or tell him that, I’m not as confident as you.”
“Then just start by talking about other things. Or start really simple and wink at him from across the bar like he does at you. Or, here’s an idea, get his attention in little, somewhat anonymous ways. Give him little gifts, or notes, or something like that. That, or Pavolv him with offering candy, and then whenever he sees you, he associates you with something sweet.”
“That sounds like manipulation, ‘Lena. I can’t do that. And I don’t know how he’d take it, either.”
“Don’t think of it that way, think of it that you want his attention, but don’t know how to get it straightforward, so you find it with other ways. Trust me, he won’t be offended. He’ll probably be elated that someone’s giving him little things. He’ll probably think it’s cute, too, that a shy girl such as yourself can’t look at him without blushing but is secretly, deeply craving something with him.”
“Oh my god, Elena.”
“Oh, stop being shy about it! If there’s anyone in this town who would enjoy the game in corrupting your shy, innocent ways, it’s Kai.”
“I’m not innocent, I’m just shy.”
“And you can show him that once you get his attention.”
“But what if he doesn’t like me anymore after finding that out?”
“How could he not like you? You’re sweet and kind, but I know you have that badass side to you, too. He’ll see it and love it the minute you show it.” She applies more red lipstick, then smacks her lips together. “And don’t forget, we’re talking about Kai, who has never been shown any kind of affection in his life. He’ll fold the minute you offer it.”
“Who’s to say he wants it from me?” You see her point, but still have doubts.
“Me,” she answers easily, “who has never seen him wink at anyone but you at the bar. Who has watched his eyes follow you throughout the grill, and watched them get heavy with disappointment when you leave. I’ve even seen him adjust himself in his seat more times than I can count.”
“What does that mean?”
“Remember that time you spilled your drink down your shirt and had to napkin-dry your chest by reaching down your shirt?”
“Mhm.”
“Yeah, well when I did a grill-sweep to make sure no one was watching, he was. And when we made eye contact, his heart rate accelerated faster than a rollercoaster and he had to move his legs around because something tells me those jeans were a little too restricting.”
“Elena!”
“I’m just telling what I saw! But I’m serious, you have a chance with him. Just give it a try.”
“Okay. But if it backfires, it’s on you.”
“I’ll take full responsibility.”
“Good.”
You both finish up your makeup, then go back to your table.
“That was a long bathroom break,” Damon says as soon as you arrive.
“We had a little girl talk. Sorry Bon.”
“No worries, we’ve been talking, too,” she replies.
“About?”
Damon answers his girlfriend. “The weasel and his wandering eyes. Watched you guys go to the bathroom, trained them on the door waiting for you to come out.”
“Where is he now?”
“Well we’ve officially entered the hour of the frat boy,” Damon nods to the clock, which reads nine p.m., “and he’s been buried in the sea of them.”
“I say we go before they start a racket,” Bonnie says. You agree.
“Alright, time to head out. Bon, Y/N, see you tomorrow. Elena, you coming with me?”
“For a little, yeah. But I’ll be back to the dorm by eleven.”
“Okay.”
“Hey, I’m gonna get a shot to go,” you say to the group.
“Ooh, get me one!” Elena asks, putting on her coat.
You head to the bar and order two bourbon shots.
The bartender rings them up with a smile. “Anything else?”
“Yeah, um… Can I pay for his?” You poke your pinky finger in the direction of Kai.
“Him? With the phone?” Kai’s the only one with his phone, unlike the ten college boys crowded around him.
“Yeah.”
“Sure. Anonymously?”
“Just don’t give him my name.”
“Okay. That’ll be $21.30 total. $5.33 for your shots; $15.97 for his. Is that okay?”
“Yes.”
“Alright. Friend of yours?”
“Kinda.” The sudden blush on your cheeks tells him all he needs to know.
He chuckles. “Got it. ‘Kay, you’re all set.”
“Thank you.”
“Have a good night.”
“You too.”
You and Elena take your shots before heading out into the cold. You part ways, divided into two at the door, and send her a wink that you’ve already started on her little plan.
Around the same time you leave, Kai decides he’s had enough of the noise. He waves the bartender over to pay, but furrows his eyebrows at his words.
“You’re all set.”
“What?”
“Someone paid for your drinks.”
“Who?”
“Asked me not to say their name.”
“Point them out.”
“Sorry man, already left.”
Kai looks to the door anyway, hoping to at least catch a glimpse of someone outside it. He sighs, out of luck.
“Did you recognize who it is?”
“Seen ‘em in here before.”
“You’re not gonna give me anything?”
“Scout’s honor not to tell.”
Kai glares, but then ultimately gets up to leave. He’s determined to find out who it was; what their intentions are by doing such a thing. If he doesn’t, it’ll itch at him all night.
Three days later, Kai has yet to find out who paid for his drink, but when he enters the grill that night, the bartender offers him a cheesy smile.
“What?”
“First shot’s been paid, what would you like?”
“What? Who?”
“Scout’s honor not to-”
“Okay, okay, don’t say it again.”
“What will it be?”
“Gin,” he replies, then immediately begins to look around the restaurant.
Nothing’s out of the ordinary in terms of customers. The usual group of geezers and their beers are in one giant booth. A couple early frat boys play pool in the corner. The unofficially-named Mystic Falls gang occupies the table to his left, and Tyler and Matt chat on the other side of the bar. Kai eyes every person individually for hidden answers within their eyes. Granted, most of the people in here would probably dodge his gaze, but he still tries.
After a while of searching, he grows frustrated. The bartender chuckles, then receives another glare.
“Still looking?”
“Would be easier if you’d tell me.”
“Maybe they don’t want to be found.”
“Why not?”
The man shrugs.
Kai only seems to get more agitated at that. His jaw tenses, but instead of pushing, he just orders another shot.
Meanwhile, you watch the interaction carefully from your table. When Bonnie leaves for the restroom, you poke Elena’s arm.
“He looks mad.”
Elena spares a glance. “He’s probably just confused,” she whispers.
“What are we talking about?” Damon asks, also whispering.
You wrinkle your nose, but give Elena a nod to let her tell him.
“Y/N’s finally acting on her little crush.”
“Eugh,” the man reacts, “on Kai?”
“Mhm.”
“Not just gonna let it die out? Give it a week or two, I promise, it’ll die out.”
“Damon!”
“And why are you encouraging this?” He asks his girlfriend.
“Y/N could be good for him. She’s been curiously crushing on him for weeks, it hasn’t ‘died out’ at all, and maybe she could help him. Besides, it’s not that far off from you and I. Remember when you were the psychotic killer in town?”
Damon rolls his eyes. “But this is Kai. He’s a scrawny little, magic sucking, weasel-looking, chatterbox, and is quite possibly the most annoying person I’ve ever met.”
“That’s rude.”
“It’s true!” He exhales rather loudly. “Does Bonnie know?”
“I haven’t told her. Figured that wouldn’t go down well.”
“Smart. But you should.”
“I will, just not yet.”
“So what have you done? Why’s he look upset?”
Elena answers, “she’s anonymously paid for his drink twice now. We get the feeling Kai knows it’s someone in the bar, but neither of us know how much the bartender has let on.”
“That man is a secret-keeper extraordinaire. Kai knows nothing.”
You nod. “I need to steer off the alcohol path soon, but I don’t have any other ideas. Elena?”
Damon answers instead, “pork rinds. Or any food, really. But pork rinds especially. Went through a whole bag in a day in the prison world.”
Elena makes a face. “Maybe also, like… something he could wear. Or something that would remind him of you.”
“What about a ring? He wears a lot of those. I don’t know what could remind him of me.”
“Does he even know you exist?”
“Damon!”
Before you can react, Bonnie returns. “What’d I miss?”
“Y/N has a crush on Kai,” Damon says, smirking. “She’s trying to get his attention in miniscule ways through tiny little gifts.”
You plant your forehead into the table. A fraction of a second before you do, though, you see Bonnie’s eyes going wide.
“Y/N!”
“Please don’t.”
“Are you insane?”
“Please talk quieter.”
“Are you insane?” She whispers.
“She might be,” Damon offers.
“Guys, it’s not the worst thing that could happen. And I do think she can help him.”
“Help him? Elena-”
“Kai would be a much easier ally than enemy. Dating Y/N, or at the very least, being friends, would help with that. Plus, she likes him. It’s just like when I liked Damon.”
“And I didn’t support that either,” Bonnie reminds.
“I know, but you’re best friends now.”
“Are you suggesting Kai and I will be besties after a couple weeks? No. We won’t.”
“That’s not what I’m saying at all. Just… Kai will be around regardless if we want him or not. Y/N has had a crush on him for the last two months. Might as well give it a chance.”
“And if it doesn’t work out? If he attacks her?”
“He won’t! Just give it a chance, Bonnie.”
She glares at you, and you look up just a little.
“I’m not helping your little endeavor to get his attention, but I won’t actively work against it, either. Just… be safe.”
“Of course.”
“Damon, what are your thoughts?”
The man shrugs. “I just wanna see what happens.”
You glare at him, but then raise your head and smile at Elena. “Thanks, guys.”
“Get him a ring, Y/N. He mostly wears silver… which you probably already know.”
You giggle, then drop your attention down to your food to avoid her teasing.
In the meantime of finding the perfect ring, you give him a bag of his favorite snack, per Damon’s suggestion. He mentioned he ate them a lot, and even said the boy was snacking in their first interaction.
“He would chew them very loudly, it was so annoying,” he said, “so make sure you give it to him and high tail it out of there.”
“Oh I’m not sticking around at all, I’m ringing the doorbell and running.”
Your shyness earned a chuckle from the man.
And you do exactly that. Kai has nothing close to a schedule, but you’ve observed him well enough to know he’s usually in his apartment at three in the afternoon. It’s the time in between his morning walk, afternoon lurk, and nighttime drink. When you drop off the bag in your hands - a brown paper bag of pork rinds, with a posy of red gerbera flowers - you have to be quick to find a close hiding spot.
For the record, the flowers were your idea. Deciding which type was a little difficult. You and Elena went back and forth between gerberas and chrysanthemums for ten minutes, liking the deep, red shades in both. After a bit, the florist approached and helped. Ultimately, you liked the symbolization of ‘desire’ behind the gerberas, and Elena was convinced the daisy would make him smile.
After assembling the gift, you creep towards his door, knowing he’s often on edge and listening intently. You can hear his footsteps inside, along with sounds coming from a phone. For a moment, he laughs, but then his heavy boots retreat again.
You almost run away, filling your own head with thoughts. This is such a bad idea. This is cheesy. This is pointless.
But then Elena texts, “you better not be talking yourself out of it.”
You take a deep breath, put it on his doorstep, ring the bell, and then hurry to the stairs. Luckily, you have a knack of getting out of situations quietly; it’s a perk of being introverted and shy.
In the stairwell, you stop to try and hear his reaction. You don’t dare look up, but you do wait just a moment. Even from a distance, you can hear his excited reaction. He sounds like a little kid given Legos. It takes everything in you to not poke your head up and see.
His boots start to sound down the length of the hall, possibly looking for the person who left it, and you take that as your cue to leave. As tempted as you are to see him in this moment, you’re not quite ready to expose your crush.
Kai hears movement in the stairwell. He quickens his pace towards it, acknowledging whoever it is seems determined to keep their identity a secret. They should know he’s equally determined to learn who it is, though, and Kai always wins.
As you hurry around the corner, he catches a glimpse of your hair flying behind you. He bites his lip, fighting a smile. He could recognize your hair any day.
Instead of calling out, he keeps to himself. He’ll give you this victory today; he’ll let you think he’s still totally clueless, for both your sakes. You clearly aren’t ready to face him, and Kai kinda likes the game you’re playing. Besides, he needs more time to sort out his own feelings. He’s known he’s liked you for weeks, but knowing he might have a chance with you is a game changer. As confusing as it is to recognize he has a crush, he finds himself excited, too.
For the rest of the day, he takes to the couch with the pork rinds, and lets his mind run wild, thinking about you.
When you finally find the perfect ring, you really haven’t been looking at all. It catches your eye through a window of a jewelry store, while your best friends are debating on whether or not to go into the neighboring store. The four of you are having a much needed break from the chaos of your local town. It was Caroline’s idea to drive an hour away to somewhere new.
A foot away, you can hear their musings.
“I think I might just go in for a minute,” Elena says, “I feel like if I walk away, I’m gonna regret not at least looking at that shirt.”
“I’ll go in if you go in,” Bonnie nods to her, “mostly to get out of this loud entryway.”
“But after, we need to find fries. Like, seriously,” demands Caroline, for the third time.
“We will! Shirt first.”
“Fine!”
“Caroline,” you wave for her attention, “you know a lot about jewelry.”
“Yes I do,” she agrees, leaving to join your side as the other two go into the store.
“You know what I’m doing with Kai, right?”
She narrows her eyes and a suggestive smile forms on her lips. “Doing with him?”
“Not like that! I mean-”
“Calm down, I’m teasing. Yes, you’re trying to get his attention because you have a crush.”
“Right. Do you think he’d like this ring? ‘Cause like, I know he wears silver, but I don’t know if he’d care about the little sliver of green in there, but I happen to know a lot about crystals, and know that is malachite, but I also know he hates his name, so I don’t know if that would be well received, or if he’d be upset.”
Caroline lets you ramble. As soon as you’re done, she begins to giggle.
“What?!”
“You’re so overthinking this, it’s adorable!”
“Caroline!”
“I don’t think he’d be upset, I think he’d like it.”
“But do men even care about color in rings? What if he only wears silver ones and doesn’t want any color? Let alone a crystal with his name in it!”
“Omg, Y/N, calm down. You’re stressing yourself out over this. Do you want to go inside and ask to see it? Let’s do that.” She takes your hand and goes immediately to the counter. A moment later, you admire the ring in your hand. “It’s pretty,” Caroline comments.
“Yeah… What if he thinks I’m trying to propose or something?”
Before the girl can erupt in more laughter, the salesperson replies, “this isn’t an engagement ring, actually. Are you looking for those?”
“Oh no, not at all!”
“My friend here has a crush on a boy who wears similar looking rings-”
“Caroline!”
“-and she wants to get him one instead of just telling him she likes him.”
“Ah,” the woman smiles.
“And she particularly likes the green on this one.”
“Well this is actually a crystal known as malachite.”
You nod, “his name is Malachai.”
“That’s fitting!”
“You should get it,” Caroline nudges your shoulder.
“This is one of our less expensive rings, but that doesn’t mean the quality isn’t as good as others. The malachite is ethically sourced from Australia, and the ring itself is made here in the US,” she starts her spiel.
“Okay, I’ll get it.”
“Perfect. Size?”
“Uhhh…”
“Average size for men is 10.”
“He’s six foot,” you provide.
“We’ll do a 10. It’ll be easy to size if he needs to.”
“Okay.”
She goes to the back to pack it up for you, and meanwhile, Caroline snickers.
“What?”
“You’re adorable.”
“Shut up.”
“Y’know, this is probably going to be the most expensive thing he owns.”
“It’s not even that much, Care.”
“Still… probably stole his other rings somewhere.”
You’d be upset at the accusation if it wasn’t most likely true. You whisper, “probably stole them off someone after killing them.”
She giggles. “And yet here you are, crushing on him.”
“Can’t help it. And you’re one to talk,” you refer to Klaus.
“This isn’t about me!”
“He wears rings, too. He might like that one over there.”
“Shush!”
The woman comes back and you both hush. “Here you go. That’ll be $43.50.”
You swipe your card. “Don’t tell Bonnie.”
Caroline snorts.
“She already thinks I’m insane for crushing on him.”
“This is quite the gift for a crush,” the woman mentions.
“Oh crush is a light term. Y/N won’t admit it, but she’s totally in love with him.”
“Care!”
“He likes her, too. But he’s just as shy about it as she is.”
“Stop talking,” you say through gritted teeth, face hot with blush.
“Well I wish you the best of luck.”
“Thank you. Have a good day.”
“You girls do too.”
Bonnie finds out immediately by way of pressing why you took so long in a jewelry store. Incidentally, she then becomes part of your plan in getting it to him.
The four of you decide you’re going to “run into him” by accident, where you’ll then present it as something you just “came across” in passing. It’s a horrible plan, but it’s the only one you have. And, it’s not entirely untrue, which will minimize the amount of stuttering you’d have while giving it to him.
At seven, Damon texts Elena that Kai had just sat down at the bar. He then calls her and loudly invites the four of them to dinner. Minutes later, you join the smirking vampire at his table.
“Nice shit plan you guys have.”
“Shh!” Caroline scolds, “it kinda needs to be shit if these two are ever going to actually talk to each other.”
Damon gets the point immediately. You’re too anxious to register Caroline’s words.
“Okay,” Elena turns to you, “I need a shot. Y/N, can you order a round?”
“Sure.”
“Don’t stutter!” Elena smacks her boyfriend. “Kidding,” he tells you.
You roll your eyes. As you near the bar, you take a couple deep breaths. Your friends watching this whole thing is certainly not helping your anxiety, but it’s now or never to act on this plan.
“Y/N,” the bartender nods as you slide up to the counter. You take the seat beside Kai, but don’t look at him yet. “What can I get you?”
“Five shots of bourbon, please.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Kai bounces his knee nervously as he thinks of what to say to you. After a second, he blurts out, “hi.”
You face him. “Hi.”
“You here with someone or are all those shots for you?”
You laugh. “Nah, I’m here with all those,” you gesture to your friends.
Kai follows your hand. “Ah.”
“Hey, um…” three of your shots are poured. “I know you wear rings, and I saw this one the other day, and it looked like something you’d wear, maybe, I don’t know. But um,” you produce it from your pocket, “I got it for you anyway.”
The way his eyes light up warms your heart. He takes it gently and admires it.
“The green is malachite,” you say quickly, “I didn’t know if you’d like it, because I know you don’t like your name all that much, but still thought it was kinda cool.”
“It is cool,” he confirms, “I love it.” He slips it onto his right, middle finger, then smiles up at you. “And I like the malachite. Thank you, Y/N.”
“Your shots, Y/N,” the bartender hands you the five on a small plate.
“Thanks.” You turn back to Kai. “And, um, you’re welcome.” For a moment, you sit in silence, wishing you had the courage to confess, but you don’t. “I’m gonna go bring these to them.”
“Okay.”
You climb off the barstool, but of course stumble over one of the legs on your way down. Kai’s hands reach out to stabilize you. One grabs your shoulder; one’s under your arm, dangerously close to grazing your breast.
As soon as you’re stable, he pulls his hands away. “Sorry.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t forget your shots.”
You smile, give him one more awkward “thanks”, then grab your shots and return to your table.
“Smooth,” Elena says immediately.
“Shut up.”
It’s been three days since you gave him the ring. You haven’t gone to the grill, nor seen him otherwise, partly in an attempt to avoid him. The ring was the first time you actually went up and talked to him, instead of indirectly giving him gifts or slipping in a hello during group conversations. And then, of course, at the end of your interaction, you managed to embarrass yourself. Kai was nice about it, which says a lot because he has little patience with most people, but you’re still embarrassed nonetheless.
So the next time you run into Kai, you’re not expecting it at all.
You’re in the kitchen of the boarding house with Elena, when one minute you look up, and he’s standing right across the counter from you.
“Well hello,” he greets, dimpled-smile wide.
Elena pops up from the floor, a cooking skillet in her hand that she just dug out from the lower cabinet. “Hello,” she greets questioningly.
“Hi,” you finally say. Short and sweet.
“What brings you here?” She nods to him.
“Bored. Wondering what’s going on in the big, giant mansion.”
“Just us cooking.”
“Ooh, fun. Y’know, I happen to be a pretty good cook.”
“Really? Prove it.”
You glance at Elena, silently cursing her for inviting him even closer to you. She smiles.
“Really?”
She nods at him.
“What were you making?”
“Grilled cheese and tomato soup.”
“Ah. I used to make that for my siblings’ lunch. There’s a spice you’ve got to add in the soup that you wouldn’t think about, but it makes all the difference.”
“Impress us. We’ll make the sandwiches.”
Kai starts on the stove, and all you can do is stare. His back is turned to you, but everytime he reaches, you get a glimpse of his hands. The veins on the back compliment his long fingers. Two rings adorn his left; one is on his right - yours. Your breath hitches in your throat at the sight. He turns around suddenly. “Where’s your spice rack?”
Elena points to the pantry. “On the door.”
“Thanks.”
“I remember you saying you could cook when you kidnapped me. The memory’s starting to return.”
“Awh, I did say that, didn’t I?” He smiles. “Sorry about that, by the way.”
“Yeah… who taught you how?”
“My father, surprisingly.” As he moves back to the stove, Elena nods at you to retrieve the bread, butter, and cheese. You do, as she turns on the fire. “Taught me how to measure with my eye. Taught me what spices do best with what dishes. He was more of the cook than my mother.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, she was busy wrangling six kids.”
“Were your siblings all close in age?” You ask, hoisting yourself on the counter. The more he talks, the more your confidence grows, even if just a little at a time.
He looks up at you before tending back to his soup. “When Liv and Luke were toddlers, the oldest aside from Jo and I was thirteen. Pretty close.”
You nod.
“Interesting to me that your dad did most of the cooking,” Elena says, “usually men make their wives do all the work, especially in the time you grew up.”
The boy smiles at her subtle prod at him being way older than he looks. The reminder makes you gulp and shift your legs.
“Yeah, well, he loved her. He would’ve done anything for her. They both did the chores around the house. Jo and I, too, if I was allowed. I mostly cooked, though. They put up a baby gate so the toddlers couldn’t crawl into the kitchen when I was in there; they trusted me that little.”
“Was that for a reason?”
“I siphoned them more when I was younger, sure. By the time I was sixteen-ish, I had mostly learned my lesson not to do that anymore. As a kid, though, it was hard to resist. Sometimes I’d still steal from my oldest younger brother when he’d piss me off. He wouldn’t tell because he knew he deserved it.” When Elena gives him a quizzical look, he explains. “Early nineties, we had a computer, and Joey was obsessed with this wizard game that my mother hated. She thought it was too violent. So he’d wake up really early in the morning to go play it and would always wake me up. He’d let me siphon so I wouldn’t tell on him.” Kai winks. “Sometimes, too, we’d roughhouse when we weren’t allowed. He would always start it. He’d come into my room and throw something at me, or would slap me for no reason. Or, would just stand in the doorway and stare. If I caught the upperhand, we’d wrestle on the floor until he apologized. Then he’d let me siphon so I wouldn’t tell mom that he went in my room, because he wasn’t allowed to do that.”
You both nod, somewhat understanding. Sibling stuff. It’s familiar, siblings coming into your room just to piss you off, and then bribing them not to tattle. Kai just happened to use his lack of magic as his bribe; desperate to have something he was born without, despite all his siblings having unlimited access. You couldn’t blame him, really, especially with his brother teasing him as much as he seemed to have.
Kai turns off the stove as his soup begins to bubble. He looks up at you again, then chuckles. “You look cute up there.”
Immediately, you blush hard. You tuck your knees up, resting them on the edge of the cabinet door below you. “Thank you.” It comes out in a whisper, and he replies with a wink.
“Bowls?”
Elena points to the cabinet beside you.
“Ah, great. Watch your head,” he mutters, opening the door. You duck a little as he reaches into it. His shirt rides up slightly, skin rubbing into the counter’s edge.
“Do you need help?” You ask, holding your hands out to grab a bowl.
“Yeah, thanks.” He hands you one after another, then shuts the door. Elena turns off the stove, then nods at him for plates. “Which one?”
“The one she’s blocking.”
“Ah.” You start to get down, but Kai insists, “no, I can work around you.” Your breath hitches in your throat as you duck and shift to the left. Within seconds, his body is centimeters from touching yours. The softness of his gray shirt brushes against your exposed knee. “Hold,” he hands you a plate. You take it and set it down, then grab the other two from him. “Thanks.”
“Mhm.”
As you recover, he starts to organize the dishes. Elena goes to the fridge for drinks, but then clicks her tongue. “Gotta go to the basement fridge. Out of coke in this one.” She winks. She’s gone before you can say a word.
Kai finishes his task, then comes back to your side. He puts a hand on your knee, his right one, and then offers a smile.
“I like my ring. Thank you for it.”
You force a smile as you try to calm your racing heart. “You’re welcome.”
“And the pork rinds, I enjoyed those.”
“I didn’t do that.”
He chuckles. “The shots, too. Plus the pretty little daisy.”
“I didn’t do that, either.”
“Oh come on, princess. Admit it.” You tense up at the nickname and he can see it. “You can’t hide from me anymore.” He hooks a finger under your chin, but you refuse eye contact.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Y/N…”
“I don’t even know where to buy pork rinds.”
“You’re so cute when you’re trying to lie to me.” You blush even more at that and he smiles. “Y’know, the shade of those daisies reminds me of the blush on your cheeks.” He licks his lips. “You can’t deny it, just admit it.”
“Kai, I can’t.”
“Can’t what? What’s wrong?”
“What do you even want me to admit?”
He laughs, as if the question is crazy. “Admit that you did it. Gave me cute little gifts and paid my ever-growing bar tabs.”
You can’t help but smile a little. “Fine. I did. Happy?”
Apparently not. “Why?”
“What do you mean, ‘why’?”
“Why’d you do it?”
“I thought you just wanted to know if I did it.”
“I did, and know I want to know why.”
“Kai-” you start, whining. He’s still holding your chin and it’s getting harder to not look at him.
“I like the way my name sounds on your lips, cutie,” he whispers. “Why don’t you just admit it and I can put something else on your lips?”
You finally look at him, eyes wider than a mouse’s.
“Awwh, there you are. Hi.” You stare, speechless. “Can I ask you something?” You only nod. “Is it safe to assume you have a little crush on me? Is that the reason for all this?”
You shake your head ‘no’.
“No? Really? Find that hard to believe.”
“Kai-”
“Princess, this’ll be so much easier when you just admit it.” He cocks his head. “What if I told you I have a little bit of a crush on you too, hm? Would that affect you at all?”
“You do?”
“Mhm.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re sweet, and shy, and just so cute. I mean, look at you. Perched on this countertop, and I could so easily grab you and hold you in my arms.” He smiles. “I’ve seen you moving around out of the corner of my eye. I know there’s a reason you’ve given me all these little gifts. Like this ring,” he shows it to you, “only you would care enough to do that. Not to mention the crystal inside it being part of my name.” You bite your lip in response and he grins. “See, I got you.”
“The food’s getting cold, we need to eat it.” You try to slide off the counter, but he catches your waist.
“Ah, ah, ah, not yet, little girl. Admit it first.”
“I already did!”
“You know what I mean.”
“Fine!” You give in, “I might have a tiny, little crush on you. And I thought if I give you things, you’d notice me.”
He smiles, satisfied with his win. “There it is! You have a crush on me.” You don’t look at him. “For the record, I already noticed you. And I’ve been watching you since I arrived in this town. Your gifts only told me that you were interested, too.”
“Really?”
“Mhm.”
“So what now?”
“You could let me kiss you. I bet you taste sweeter than you look.” He runs a finger along your jawbone.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
You nod.
Kai wastes no time pressing his body into your legs and cupping your face in his hands. “You’re so cute,” he mutters. Then, a second later, kisses you softly. Your lips part in pleasure before you start to kiss him back. He takes advantage of this, sucking your lower lip in between his teeth and making his next kiss more passionate. You let your hands rest on his chest, but don’t push him off. A couple seconds later, he breaks it off himself.
“Even sweeter than I could imagine,” he says cheesily.
“Really?”
He pinches your cheeks. “Perfect.”
“What’d I miss?” Elena appears in the doorway, three drinks in her hands.
Kai smirks. “All the fun.”
The girl knows immediately. “Finally?”
“Finally,” Kai confirms.
“Wait- did you two-?” You point back and forth. “Did you-?”
“Promise, I didn’t say a word to him!” Elena swears.
Kai agrees, “not a word between us. You’re just bad at keeping secrets.” He bops you on the nose.
“You suck.”
“And you’re adorable when you pretend to be mad at me.”
You pout in response, peeling yourself off the counter. Kai kisses your cheek as you pop off, making you blush.
“Sandwich time?” Elena asks, “I have a story about that ring that you would just love.”
“Oh, I’m definitely going to need to hear this.”
“No! Elena, don’t!”
The three of you take your sandwiches and soup into the dining room, and she tells the story anyway.

“Oh look how gorgeous it is Damon” I whispered as he opened my car door. “Well how can I do that when I’m looking at how gorgeous you are” he whispered, pulling me to his body. “Stop it” I giggled pushing him away. “What? were at a wedding, it symbolises love” he smirked putting his arm out for me to take to walk into the building.
I raised my hand to my mouth and giggled, watching him as if I was a little child again. His eyes glistened in the lights put up for the special day. “So you love me now?” I raised an eyebrow, deep down hoping so very much that he’d say yes. Instead his face dropped with his arm.
“What?” Damon jerked his head backwards scrunching up his eyebrows, this confused expression spread quickly across his face. “You said it symbolises love” I repeated for him, a bit upset at his reaction. I swallowed standing up straight and tucked my hair behind my ear. “It doesn’t matter” I shrugged putting on a fake smile.
While my heart ripped. We’d been together for two months now and I was ready to tell him I loved him. But I needed him to say it first incase he didn’t feel the same way. I suppose I fell for him long before we got together and maybe that’s why I fell in love so quickly. Or maybe it was the fact he was so loveable. But from that reaction I thought it best to keep it a secret for now.
Damon still hadn’t moved. “Come on, we don’t have long until it starts” I nodded to the building with my head and with my right hand I stanched up his left. Making him walk to the doors with me. There was still a few people filtering in and finding their seats, but the majority of people had sat down by now.
“Y/n, over here” Caroline frantically waved at us. I smiled and made my way over there, pulling Damon with me. “Oh you look stunning” I grinned at her as she hugged me. “As do you obviously” “I don’t know what too you so long though” she whispered being nasty. “Oh we were just talking- got distracted” I patted his hand which was in mine.
The music quickly began after I finished my sentence and Alaric came out on stage. “Good luck” I kissed Damon on the cheek. “Thanks gorgeous” as I turned around Elena walked in with the brightest smile I’d seen from her in a long time. We waved at each other as we passed and I went to find my seat next to Bonnie in the crowd.
Damon and Elena soon came down the aisle to meet Alaric on the stage. He breathed out nervously, playing with his fingers behind his back. As Damon came up the two steps him and Alaric started whispering and smiling about something together. My heart beat against my chest. I loved watching my boyfriend in his natural element. Just him doing nothing still makes me smile.
Everyone’s heads swivel round as the doors open up for Jo to walk down with her father. “Oh she looks amazing” Bonnie whispered to me as we saw her striding down the aisle confidently and excitedly. “Oh she really does” I nodded, feeling my eyes fill up. We all watched as her father put Jo’s hand in Alaric’s.
They both gave the other a loving smile and I saw Alaric’s lips mouth “wow” at his soon to be wife. They held each other’s hands and the pastor began to talk while the audience took a seat. We all watched in awe as the couple looked and spoke to each other. “Now I believe you both have prepared your vows” she looked to Alaric suggesting he went first. “Of course” he nodded without removing eye contact with jo.
“Jo, we spent our lives dodging fate but because we did, I got to meet you. Thee most beautiful, hilarious, intimidatingly brilliant woman I have ever known. You inspire me. You showed me that happiness is actually something I could have in my life. And so, I promise to be with you. And love you. And to dodge fate with you. For the rest of our lives.”
I noticed Damon’s eyes flick across to me a few times throughout the speech. We exchanged smiles which made me picture us up there one day. Hopefully. “Jo?” The lady smiled at her. She’d been so mesmerised at Alaric’s speech she didn’t even realise it was her go. “Oh god- that’s a tough act to follow” she giggled wiping her eyes and making the whole crowd laugh. “Here goes” she beamed squeezing his hands excitedly. “Alaric saltzman- you are…”
Jo’s face dropped. She winced in pain as her body jolted. “Jo?” Alaric blinked as she fell towards him. The family and friends all gasps as she now faced us. Her white dress stained a dark red colour. “Jo?” Alaric shouted as they fell to the floor over her screams. In front of the whole audience on the stage where Jo had previously been standing, Kai appeared. Holding a knife dripping with his sister’s blood. Everyone’s mouths hung open.
Our hearts dropped at the sight of him. “Well wasn’t that sweet” Kai grinned at what he had done. He loved the attention we were giving him. “Kai” I heard Damon growl, with his head he looked him up and down. “Nice to see you again Damon” Kai smirked. My boyfriend snarled at him and made a run for it. “Damon no!” I yelled jumping up. Kai flicked both his wrists and me and Damon both flew backwards as far as the walls would let us.
Now Damon being a vampire could have shrugged it off. Me being a human resulted in everything going fuzzy and not being able to move a muscle in my body. I felt the magic of Kai once again as the screams from everyone filled the room. They held their heads before all the windows caved in shooting glass from every direction into the skin of the guests. And with that my vision left and all I saw was black.
Damon’s pov
My first priority was to find y/n once I could hear my own thoughts again. But there was so many people. So many bodies on the floor. So much blood. I scanned the room, scanned the people on the floor. Until I finally found where she had ended up. My heart broke into thousands of pieces. And if i didn’t have a job to do then i would have broken down to my knees.
Her limbs were out of place from the force she had hit the wall. Her legs and one of her arms was definitely broken. There was loads of glass stuck in her skin and her face was stained with blood and tears. She lied on her side with her head on her arm, her gorgeous face so damaged. Please don’t be dead. I had hesitated but in the next second I was next to her holding her to my chest. She had a heartbeat, she was alive but barely. It was faint.
I bit into my wrist and let the blood trickle down my wrist. My heart pounding against my chest as I put it to her lips. But she couldn’t drink it. She was completely out cold. Carolin and Stefan vamp ran towards us. “Is she…” Caroline began. “No” I cut her off shaking my head, a million thoughts going through it. “She can’t drink my blood” I looked up with tears in my eyes at my brother. He nodded putting aside his fear. “Get her to the hospital” Stefan nodded once.
“It’ll be okay brother” he stated before I lifted her up in my arms. “Okay” I whispered before vamp running off quicker than I ever have done before. We got to the hospital and I’d compelled three doctors and a nurse to see to her instantly. I was outside pacing for hours, but it felt like days. Up down up down up down. “Damon” Bonnie called out. I looked up to see Stefan, Elena, Caroline and Bonnie all at the end of the corridor. The worry on their faces felt like I was looking into a mirror.
“Have you heard anything?” Elena hissed getting closer. “Nothing” I answered shaking my head. “How longs she been in there” “three hours- and a bit” I replied after looking up at the clock. “She’ll be okay, she’s a fighter” Stefan told the group. “She’s human Stefan” Caroline teared up. Everyone’s phones dinged at the same time. We all rushed to grab them. The message was from Alaric. “Jo’s here- in critical condition” Elena read out.
She looked to Stefan and he swallowed. “Well go find Alaric” he nodded putting a hand on her back. “No- you should stay here with your brother” she shook her head and whispered what she had to say. “We’re staying with Damon and y/n” Bonnie put a hand on my back and rubbed it gently. “Yeah- go find Rick I don’t want him on his own” I agreed nodding my head, but I felt my heart sink knowing how many people I cared about had been hurt.
The door to y/ns room opened and the doctor came out with a very neutral expression. We all looked up apart from Stefan and Elena who hadn’t seen him come out, they were half way down the hall way now. “Damon?” He looked to me. I tilted my head getting ready for the news. “You’ll be pleased to know that y/n is alive and stable, we had to operate on her body in multiple areas due to the broken- spine, leg, ankle, wrist, elbow and shoulder” he explained.
But I still felt sad. Sad about the pain she was going through, i definitely felt relief but it was over come by the sadness. “So what I’m trying to say is she’s alive- but we don’t know if she’ll ever be the same again- if she even wakes up” he stated. I had no response. But luckily I had two best friends here to support me. “Can we see her?” Caroline begged with her big, sad eyes. “Of course, right this way”.
Two weeks later- y/n’s pov
Bright, white, hospital lights wasn’t unfamiliar for me to wake up to. I blinked them in slowly before moving my head around. Damon was in the corner of the room sleeping on the chair. I looked at my body to see the damage done. I wasn’t surprised to see myself completely casted up with all sorts of wires, tubes and stickers across my body. I wouldn’t be able to move so I tried to shout for my boyfriend but my voice was hardly coming out. It was so strained. So I looked to my right to see what I could throw at him.
Someone had left me a get well soon teddy which I grabbed with my right arm, which seemed to be the only part of my body which wasn’t harmed. I launched it at Damon and it hit his head. I let out a raspy giggle as he woke up baffled at what had happened. “That was quite a good shot” I softly spoke, but he was still in shock. I think the shock had moved from being hit in the head with a bear to how was I awake. “Y/n” he ran across the room to the side of my bed.
His hand touching my face. I held it with my working hand. “Hey gorgeous” I croaked with my dry mouth. “They weren’t sure you’d wake up, I weren’t sure you’d wake up” he whispered grasping my hand as a tear fell out his eye. “Damon, come on- I was always coming back to you” I whispered smiling before all the happiness drained from my eyes. “Damon- how long has it been since the wedding” “…two weeks” he told me. And now for the big question.
“Jo?” I swallowed feeling the tears floating in my eyes. “She made it y/n” he nodded stroking my knuckles. “Her and the babies they pushed through” he laughed while a tear rolled down his face. “So everyone’s okay” i cried out with a wide smile on my face. “Everyone’s okay- apart from you” he swallowed looking me up and down. “I’m alive” I shook my head reaching for his face. “Barely” he breathed out. “Damon I’m okay- thank you for getting me here so quickly”.
“You’re going to drink now, so I can get you out of here”. I nodded watching him bring his wrist up to his face. I watched the blood drip down onto the bed sheet and he lifted my head and he put his wrist to my lips. As soon as I swallowed the first drop I felt life come back to me. I felt it flow through veins. And most of all, I felt my bones snap back into place and heal. I gasped out when pulling away and sat up. Blood was trickling down my chin.
Damon wiped it away and took a seat on the bed. “You’re Okay” he whispered holding my face. I nodded, slightly disoriented. “Y/n” Damon turned my face towards his by my chin. “Y/n I was so scared you wouldn’t come back to me and I felt so guilty because i haven’t told you the truth” “told me the truth? About what?” I asked frowning hard at him. God what had he done. “I kept avoiding telling you because I was so scared but I thought I was never going to get the chance and that was scarier” he explained.
“Tell me Damon” I squeaked out, becoming really scared of what he had to say. “I love you and I want you forever, I do want to marry you some day”. My heart knocked on my chest to remind me I had to answer him. But i couldn’t help my big smile and exhale of relief. “Damon I love you too” I smiled finally being able to hear those words come out of his mouth. “It’s always been you since I met you- but It’s nice to finally hear those words” I giggled behind my hand.
“I should have said them a lot sooner but I’ve never felt like this- and it scares me- I’ve never only wanted one person in my life but now I’ve met you- it’s you or no one for me”. I nodded my head in complete agreement with him. I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him in. “You’ve got nothing to worry about, I’m not leaving, you don’t have to be scared” I whispered in his ear reaching up his neck for his hair.
“You’re so perfect y/n, I’m so glad you’re okay” he rested his head on my forehead, he watched me smile before leaning in to kiss me. Gently. Finally.

Shadows of Destiny (Kai x Reader)
Tumblr media
The story is set during when Kai escapes from the Prison World with the Heretics. Y/N, being a close friend of Kai, who had developed feelings for Kai in Prison World - 1994, found out he escaped and was planning to commit mass murder at Alaric and Jo's wedding, decides to confront and stop him. But she gets restrained by Kai instead.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You're going to regret this," Y/N snarled, jerking against the restraints with all her might. The friction of the ropes would scrape her chafed wrists, but she didn't even give a damn; the fury inside her was burning far more than any literal pain. Kai Parker stood before her, his smile infuriatingly calm, "Regret the time spent with you? Never!" His voice was smooth, almost tender, a stark contrast to the malice in his eyes.
Her heart was pounding in her chest. She had known Kai for months. She had seen his cruelty and moments of vulnerability. But this was different; she'd always been able to keep herself cool around him, but this time, the stakes were up. Too many lives depended on her getting out of there and stopping him.
Their history was a complicated one. Y/N first met Kai in the 1994 Prison World, where she was stuck with Bonnie and Damon. Then, he was the charming sociopath who thrived off chaos and destruction. But in those quiet moments, away from Bonnie and Damon, there had been something else. Kai had a way of making Y/N blush with his relentless flirting and teasing. He had a way of getting under her skin, making her feel things she didn't want to acknowledge.
"Y/N, come on," Kai would say, his eyes twinkling with mischief, "You know you like having me around. Admit it." He'd lean in close, his breath warm against her ear, and she would feel her cheeks flush, despite herself trying to stay stoic.
"You're insufferable," she would throw back, drawing herself up and shooting him a look, but inside, she was thrilled with every fiber of her being when he did that. Faced now with the reality of his actions, those memories felt like a distant dream. The boy who had made her blush was also the man who was capable of unimaginable cruelty.
"You think this is a joke, Kai? You think you can keep playing your twisted games and get away with it?" Her voice shook with her fury, but she made herself meet his eyes steadily.
Kai tilted his head, his smile widening, "Y/N, you don't understand. It's not a game; this is beyond my control. This is destiny. This is what I was put on this earth to do."
"Destiny?" Y/N spat out, eyes blazing, "To hurt people, to cause chaos? That is not destiny, Kai. That is madness."
He took a step closer, his expression darkening, "Madness? Perhaps. But it is madness with a purpose. You see, Y/N, I have spent my whole life being told I was worthless, an abomination. But now, finally, I have power. Finally, I am in control."
Her heart ached for the pain she saw flicker across his eyes. For a moment, she saw the boy who had been discarded, who had been made to feel like nothing. But she couldn't allow herself to pity him. Not now.
"Kai, listen to me," she said, her voice softer but no less urgent, "You don't have to do this. You can choose a different path. You can use your power for good."
He laughed, a harsh, bitter sound, "Good? There's no good left for me, Y/N. Just survival. And the only way I survive now is by winning this fucking game."
Y/N's mind raced for something to say to him, "Kai, if you do this, you'll be alone. Completely and utterly alone. Is that really what you want?"
His smile faltered for just a fraction of a second; then it was back, colder than ever, "Better alone and powerful than surrounded by people who will never understand me."
Y/N felt a surge of desperation. She had to break through to him, had to find a way to make him see reason, "Kai, please. I know you. I know there's still a part of you that cares, a part of you that doesn't want to be the villain."
Kai's eyes narrowed, "It's too late for that, Y/N. It's too late for anything but this." He turned away, and for the first time, Y/N saw a hint of uncertainty in his movements.
"Kai, wait!" she cried, struggling against her restraints, "You don't have to be alone. We can find another way. Together."
He paused, his back to her, and for a moment, Y/N thought she had reached him. Then he shook his head, shoulders stiffened. "I'm sorry, Y/N. But this's the only way I know how to be."
And with that, he walked out of the door, leaving Y/N bound and desperate in the cruel world. Her heart went heavy, knowing she had come so close yet so far from being able to save him. As the door closed behind him, she vowed she would not give up. She would find a way to stop him, to save him, even if it were the last thing she did.
Damon X reader pt. 1
Tumblr media
Warnings: slight angst
Copyright: I do not own any TVD/TO/Legacies characters, nor any places in New Orleans or Mystic Falls that may be mentioned.
I woke up in rather warm arms and I was confused. What in the world? I rolled over- to the best of my ability- and saw Damon's angelic sleeping face on the other side. I relaxed immediately, smiling at the sight in front of me.
He was so handsome what with those baby blue eyes and black curls, and I wished he could be mine. But he was adamant that he was bad for me because he was a Vampire. I didn't care, I wished I could be a vampire and be with him forever.
It had taken forever to convince him into the bed. But he had finally given in and here he was. Of course, he wouldn't sleep with me, but he would cuddle and I was grateful for that.
"Take a picture, it lasts longer." Damon grumbled, apparently awake as I continued to gaze at him.
I tucked some of his curly hair behind his hair. "Hmm."
I kissed his forehead before rolling out of the bed on the opposite side. I glanced out the window, seeing the ocean waves. But there was also an island that seemed very close. "We're almost at the next stop. What is it again?"
"Bahamas. Didn't you read the map? You're the one who's competing after all." Damon grumbled, but with more teasing in his voice than before.
I giggled, "No. You know I was surprised with this trip. What time it is?"
"Time for you to get a watch." Damon grumbled, rolling over in the bedsheets, wrapping his arms around one of the pillows.
"Not the dad jokes Damon." I complained.
"Sorry Y/N." He muttered.
I went to the bathroom and then looked at the clock, "It's past lunchtime." I shouted so he could hear me.
I exited the bathroom and found he'd fallen back asleep. I smiled gently.
We lived in Mystic Falls which never seemed to be a boring place to live, what with the drama with Originals and Vampires and Werewolves and Heretics and Sirens and Witches and whatever else existed. And I was a measly human who had managed to survive it through it all.
This was partly a combination because Damon and Enzo protected me, and also because all of the Originals had taken a liking to me. Well, except Finn, but he didn't really count now.
With the combined protection, I got through everything unscathed. Of course, while everyone from Bonnie and Enzo to Alaric and Jo had found a romantic love, I was stuck without love.
Klaus had Caroline, Elijah had Hayley. Kol had Davina. Rebekah had Marcel, which meant Marcel had Rebekah. Stefan had Elena- not that I would've gone for Stefan anyways. I honestly couldn't stand him or Elena. Bonnie had Enzo. Alaric had Jo.
Which had left Damon who was adamantly against dating me. Wonderful. But that was because his eyes were on Elena.
I guess if I wanted to sink lower I could date Matt or Tyler, but I really didn't.
Of course, everyone liked to tell me that Damon did like me, he just didn't want to hurt me. Well, that was just bloody wonderful, but if he could actually act on it, it would be more than wonderful.
But anyways. . . about three weeks ago, I had received a letter in the mail that claimed I had won a spot on a game show that would take place on a yacht. I was allowed to bring one friend with me and we would have shared quarters.
I hadn't been sure who I was going to take. I had thought about bringing Vincent, my witch friend from New Orleans, but somehow, Damon had been corralled into it.
Not that I minded.
So now I was here. I'd spent a week and a half on the yacht, participating in different game shows and consistently winning, although the last game had been a near miss. I'd been on the bubble with a one question difference and it just so happened I knew the question and I got pushed into the winning.
The next contest would be when we docked- the losers were always dropped off at the port location to be sent home on an airplane- and this time around, we were going to know the category ahead of time. I was really excited because if I could study something- the enormous yacht had a library- then I would probably have a better chance at winning.
Meanwhile, I got dressed out of my pajamas and into a short sleeved T-shirt and a pair of frayed jean shorts. I pulled my hair up into a messy bun, not bothering doing anything more exotic with it. Then I applied light makeup and decided that it was time to wake Damon up.
I grabbed one of the blood bags from the mini fridge in the kitchen and then poured it into a glass that he usually used for drinking bourbon or whiskey.
I carried it back to the bedroom, waving it under Damon's nose, "Damon." He grunted, but didn't move.
"C'mon baby, time to wake up." I said in a sing-songy voice that was probably only appropriate to use on a little child. But he was certainly acting like it so it probably was rather appropriate.
He mumbled something incoherent, his hand pushing the glass of blood away.
I frowned and then said in a hard voice, "Damon Salvatore I will pour this glass of blood on your head if you do not get out of bed right now."
In a flash, the glass of blood was gone from my hand, Damon was gone from the bed, leaning against the wall, downing the glass. "Happy?"
"Very, let's go down for breakfast."
He scoffed, "Or, I can cook you pancakes here and we can stay in the room."
I sighed. I did love his pancakes and if we stayed in the room, I might get a chance to cuddle with him. Maybe even get him to kiss me.
"Well, alright. But do we even have maple syrup and whip cream?"
"If not, I'll compel the chef to give me some." Damon said, pouring himself a bourbon in the same glass the blood had originally been in.
"Are you sure you want to drink so early in the day?" I questioned.
"It's one o'clock, that's early?"
"I don't know, don't normal people start drinking around. . . after work hours? Six? Maybe five at the earliest?" I questioned. I personally didn't drink [or maybe you do], so I wasn't sure the normal hours.
"Only cool people drink at this time of the day Y/N." Damon smirked.
I swung my H/L hair over my shoulder. "Come on Slytherin, get to making the pancakes."
I had taken to calling him 'Slytherin' as it was his Hogwarts house. My nickname for him, per-se. He often called me '[Your Hogwarts house]'.
Damon cooked up the pancakes, putting [your favorite fruit] as the decorations for the eyes and mouth of the happy pancakes. I smirked as he added whip cream and maple syrup to the breakfast food.
"Thanks Damon." I said, picking up my fork and digging in.
"Well it's not often I flaunt my amazing cooking skills," Damon said cockily, digging into his own pancakes.
We mostly ate in silence. I was wondering about what the category would be for the next round, knowing I only had a few hours before the actual competition to research. I had heard rumors that the library was a whole floor of the ship so finding books might be nearly impossible.
"Don't sweat it." Damon said and I looked up to see he had been observing me. His black hair was in his lovely blue eyes. He was wearing a buttoned down gray shirt and black jeans. Much to my pet peeve, he had only socks on. I preferred either bare feet or shoes. "Honestly, you either know the answers, or you don't. It's not the end of the world if you lose the competition."
I smiled at him. I just wanted to impress him. It was stupid really, I was human. If I wasn't human, I wouldn't have to impress him. He didn't want me to be a vampire and he also didn't want to be with me if I was human.
Or maybe it was just that if I stayed human, he never had to be with me whereas if I became a vampire, he might never get rid of me.
The smile slipped off my face and I quickly turned back to my pancakes. Was that it? Was it really that bad to be in my presence?
I suddenly found my appetite diminished and I pushed the plate away gently, getting to my feet and padding away to the bathroom.
I needed a bath to calm my senses.
At that moment, the intercom went off with an annoying drilling noise like back in high school. "Attention competitors. The library is now open. The category is mystical creatures. You have four hours. Good luck!"
Well there went the calming bath.
"Well you'll have this in the bag Y/N." Damon said, another glass of bourbon in his hand. I decided not to say anything. If he wanted to drink it fine, it wasn't my place to tell him not to.
"Well, I guess I should go down to the library anyways." I said awkwardly. "I'll see you after the competition."
"Don't you want help studying?" Damon asked and I did hear the surprise in his voice that I planned on going alone.
"Only if you want, but if you'd rather stay here, I don't mind at all." I replied nonchalantly, opening the door to the hotel room. I let the door close behind me, but the click didn't happen.
Damon was now standing in front of me, a bit of a frown on his face. "Y/N? Did I say something at breakfast?"
No. It's what you're not saying.
"No, just nerves." I replied with a shrug. I set off down the hallway. "But if you're coming, you have to leave the bourbon in the room!"
Good, now I'd have time alone and away from him. He'd much rather stay in his room with his bourbon-
I shrieked as strong arms scooped me up and I felt a familiar rush of vampire speed as everything rushed past me in a blur.
We stopped in front of large doors and Damon said, "The library." He put me down on his feet.
I hit his arm, "Dumbass! What if someone saw you?"
"Then I'd compel them to forget." Damon said his mouth lifting into that familiar, sexy smirk, opening the door. "After you."
All the headcanons for my ships. I might update this sometimes.
Ships include: Soapghost, Alegraves, Pricegaz, and Körangi. BUT i might add Krüni (Krüger x Oni), we'll see.
SoapGhost
- Johnny can't cook. He tries, he tries so hard. He meticulously follows each instruction in the recipe, but it still comes out burnt or nasty. Simon, on the other hand, throws some shit in a pot, stirs it for a second and it tastes fucking amazing.
- Johnny can't cook, BUT he can clean. He's good at cleaning, like he kicks Simon out of the apartment, deep cleans it, and lets him back in to a fresh apartment clean as the day they first got it.
- Johnny can bake. And he loves baking. He used to bake on base whenever he was bored. It gave him something to do with his hands. Simon picked it up, but he mostly likes the decorating part. So, they opened up a small bakery near Johnny's hometown. Riley isn't allowed there, but it's alright because Johnny's sister and her kids love him.
- Sometimes they'll just sit together and do nothing. Johnny is drawing while Simon is flopped on his chest or playing with his hair. Just being in eachother's presence.
- They've got an old bomb dog. Riley. He's a good boy, can't see so well anymore, but he's happt to get loved on all day. He loves taking long walks through town with Simon.
- Simon runs cold, Johnny runs hot. Simon's favorite way to fuck with Johnny is to grab his pecs with his freezing cold hands and watch as Johnny squeals and smacks at him every time.
- Their petnames are weird. "L.t." for intance has become one. But Johnny will say more traditional ones just to make Simon flush. Simon isn't partial to cheesy nicknames, but occasionally a "honey" will slip out and Johnny will have to take a breather. Like, hand on counter fist over chest, sobbing and coughing type. He's a total simp.
- Most of the floors in their house are hardwood. Minus the kitchen and bathrooms. Simon hates carpet, he's seen how easily it get stained. John is indifferent, but he has to agree; Carpet never feels good on his feet.
- Johnny has absolutely NO filter. Whatever pops into his head is out his mouth before he knows it. Before they were dating, Johnny spat out a "Ye've got some bonnie chebs, Ghost" and had to use Simon's lack of scottish knowhow to bs his way out of that one.
- Simon is albino, he cannot go out into sunlight for too long. But Johnny really likes the beach. So obviously Johnny lugs a tent around for him.
- Simon hates needles, so Johnny helps him with his T shots.
- Simon struggles a lot with schizophrenic-like symptoms from his PTSD. Most of the time they're small auditory hallucinations, like someone calling his name, or the sound of gunfire. The more severe ones (which only really happen when he's off his meds) could be anything from fires to Joseph. He has a cocktail of drugs he takes just to keep them at bay.
- Johnny stims on everything. He cannot sit still, he'll either be bouncing from foot to foot or be antsy and restless. Simon has to kick him to make him stop every night because he just cannot relax.
It was such a bad issue that Johnny needed meds to feel normal. Sleeping pills and adhd meds. It made him feel really broken, until Simon started setting their pills out together. Simon is the strongest man Johnny knows, surely Johnny can't be broken if Simon takes meds, too.
- Johnny is 27, and Simon is 34.
- idk if I've ever explicitly said this but Simon has schizophrenia and complex-ptsd. The symptoms kinda mixed so he never really got diagnosed with schizophrenia until late in his career. It's rough, but he's pretty good at managing it. His best tactic is using his phone camera to determine wether or not he's hallucinating.
AleGraves
- Simon is lingeromantic caedsexual. It took him a very long time to trust Johnny completely. Johnny is pan, he wears his heart on his sleeve. His attractions are frequent but shallow, and Simon is the first he's found that he really got attached to.
- Johnny is obsessed with Simon's hair. Its fluffy and curly and he could run his hands through it all day.
- Alejandro is so gentle with Phillip. Normally, he's confident, and sure of himself. But he's never had a good thing in a while. Not since he and Rudy met. He's terrified he'll fuck it up.
- Phillip can't really cook in the way Alejandro is used to, but he does enjoy making Southern food for him. He also gets really upset when someone calls southern buscuits "Scones" because scones are made of sugar dammit.
- Alejandro loves to do Phillip's hair. He'll gently sit him in a tub and work soaps through his hair until Phillip is half asleep and his hair is clean.
- Their house is very cozy. It's got a stone fireplace and plenty of cushions and blankets. They even have a small library. The library may or may not be primarily made up of classified documents sandwiched with old history books.
- Both run cold. They cannot survive in weather below 65° F. They visited England once, to meet up with Price and Kyle, and regretted it.
- Once Alejandro got sent to Russia on a mission, Phillip never heard the end of it.
- Alejandro uses so many pet names. He only uses the cheesy Spanish ones. Like "Mi vida" and "Cariño" but his favorite is "Sombra". Phillip rarely uses any, but sometimes the southerner in him bares its ugly head and he lets a "honey" or "sugar" slip.
- Phillip is a big thrifter. It's a habit he never got over. He never hoards, but he might have a too-big collection of mugs
- Alejandro doesn't know Phillip speaks, or at least understands, Spanish. It's not that Phillip wants to keep the secret, but lazy nights when Alejandro is cooing spanish compliments at him in "secret" makes him keep it.
- Phillip religiously makes sweet tea. Every other day he refills a massive jug with it. Alejandro likes to pretend that he doesn't drink any, but he's shit at lying.
- Alejandro is the emotional one. He might not always be the best at handling them, but he's deffo not ashamed of them. Phil on the other hand was born in the conservative south to your typical toxically masculine family, he was ridiculed for showing emotions. Its embarrassing for him to show anything thats not anger, or to not be in control all the time.
- Alejandro has dermatillomania. He picks at his lips and whatever ingrown/double hairs he has on him, he rips the skin around his fingernails. It really frustrates him because he just can't stop. Phil has a knack for catching the behavior and redirecting his attention.
- Alejandro is obsessed with Phil's body. Not in a sexual way. But, he'll sit there with Phil in his lap just mapping him out with his hands with a massive grin on his face. His tummy, his muscles, his hips, Alejandro cannot get enough of him. He's just so damn pretty and Alejandro can't believe that Phil is his husband.
- Phil has the highest blood pressure man has ever seen. He is so stressed all the time, he looks about twice his age. Every night when he gets home, he'll shove his face into Alejandro's magical stress relieving titties and just cry.
- Phil is 38, Alejandro is 37
PriceGaz
- they've got a small, lithe cat. A grey-based calico named Magazine, they call her Maggie for short.
- Alejandro sends Phil pics of everything. Like if he was stationed in Germany, Phil would get pics of anything from a silly looking car to a mountain or sunset.
- They have a cat. He's old, and geriatric, and his name is Greg. They love him very much, but he only loves Simon.
- Kyle is a family man, and was so excited to show John his family. John's parents weren't in the picture. He grew up taking care of his three younger siblings. He was nervous to meet them, to tell them he didn't have a family like theirs. But Kyle's mother took one look at him, sat him down for tea, and they talked for a real long time.
- They probably live in a cabin on the seaside. It's small, probably only three rooms including the bathroom, but it's enough for them. They take turns cooking, or they do it together. Then, they take long walks down the beach to find shells.
- John is a space heater, and constantly wakes up with Kyle spread over his chest. Hell, even Greg has taken to suffocating him in his sleep.
- Neither of them regularly use petnames, but John certainly turns into a 50 year old southern woman whenever they're cooking. "Oh, sugar, don't burn yourself" and "Babe, be careful with that knife." Kyle thinks its charming.
- Kyle only wears clothes two sizes up. He hates tight fitting clothing, and he absolutely hates anything that shows any of his torso. It's his biggest insecurity. John knows, maybe Kyle's never told him, but he knows.
- Kyle loves smoker candles. Not because John smokes, but because it reminds him of his home. I'll let y'all unpack that one.
- They have two blankets on their bed because they steal from eachother. Kyle will take it, then John will take it back. Frustrates Kyle to no end.
- Kyle has a designated chair in John's office. It has his name on it (literally) and Kyle is always huffy when someone steals it.
- Kyle hates coffee. John hates tea. They complete eachother. Kyle does tease John about being a "shit brit"
- John's family is either dead, or too far away for him to know. IIt really doesn't bother him, since it all happened a long time ago, but he cant help but feeling a little miffed that he never knew his mom very well.
- Kyle's background is of them. None of his social media mentions their relationship, which makes him upset, but fraternization with your commanding officer is a big oopsie. His lockscreen is Greg, but his background is a collage of all of his favorite moments together. It rips him apart that he can't gush about his husband, you know, because its highly illegal.
Körangi
- John is 40, Kyle is 30.
- Kyle collects stupid instruments. Harmonica, spoons, singing bowl, kazoos. If they're small enough to fit in his pack, he grabs it.
- Kim's English is way better than König's. It was a suprise to them, since German is very close to English. Either way, Kim still makes fun of König (in jest, of course) for it.
- A lot of people expect Kim to be horrible with his money, but he's actually been clean from his addiction for a few years. He has a hefty sum in his accounts, and likes to let it sit and accumulate. König's is mostly empty, since he sends most of his money to his mother back in Austria. Kim is more than happy to pay for him too.
- König has to duck everywhere, and he never quite fits into bets right. When they got their first house, Kim said he'd take care of it. König didn't think much about it, until he got to the house for the first time. Every doorframe and ceiling was slightly taller. Tall enough that he didn't have to duck or crunch for space. Their bed was extra long and spacious, so he didn't have to crunch up or take up all the space.
- Kim is König's little hand warmer. He is small but he can heat a room in 5 minutes. König runs cold, like his hands will always be freezing. Its a real problem during the winter, but it's a perfect excuse for Kim to melt on König's chest when it too cold.
- Both use petnames. Never in English, König because he doesn't understand them, and Kim because he thinks they sound silly. König is a hopeless romantic, and probably would use something like "schatz", "suße" and "bienchen" while Kim would say "aein" only rarely.
- They've definitely learned enough of eachother's language to know what simple requests are. Kim will call across the house for König to do the dishes, and König will do them, then realize that not only was his request in Korean, but that he doesn't speak Korean.
- König has struggled with eating disorders his whole life. He was a twig in elementary school, and his mom fattened him up. But when he looked into the mirror after a few weeks, and saw a stomach, he nearly fainted. Kim didn't notice at first, König hides it really well. But after a while it's hard not to notice him refusing meals. He'll slip him something small, nothing scary.
- König can absolutely manhandle Kim and he uses it to his advantage. Kim can't reach something? Lift him up. Kim is angry? Pick him up. Kim is standing there all cute n' shit? Pick him up. Kim responds just like a cat, pout and all.
- Kim HATES fizzy drinks. They taste like static, and make his tummy hurt :( He'll wait for his sodas to go flat, ice them, then drink them. Like a psycho. König pretty much only drinks sparkling water and is mortified at Kim's soda habits.
- Kim's love language is touch. He likes to say he's not clingy, but König knows hes full of shit because he cannot sleep without him.
- König's is definitely gifts. He likes to give Kim rocks. He knows a lot about them, and they're really easy to come by. Other times he'll just give him random shit he picked up. A small peice of tarmac from Ukraine, a pebble from Nepal, a small bottle cap from Nicaragua. Kim has a whole collection of stuff from him and he refuses to give any of it up.
- Kim hates clothes. He'll just lounge around König's room in just his boxers or a pair of sweats. He likes being warm, not uncomfortably warm, but warm. König has an entire stash of Korean snacks for him since Kim hates western snacks (except for Blue Takis for some reason).
- Kim is 32, König is 33. Kim jokingly refers to him as a grandpa, to which König gently reminds him that, that would make him a grandma.
- König has THE thickest hair you will ever see in your life. It's curly but its super long so it's like a goddamn waterfall. Meanwhile Kim has really thin, and delicate hair. It's soft and silky.
- Kim does NOT do good in the dark. This man is terrified of being trapped in dark rooms. He clung to König like a baby every night until König realized what was wrong.
- they have a pikachu nightlight.
The Vampire Diaries opinions people hate me for:
Forwood is actually a good ship and I wish it didn't have to go down like that, at the expense of Caroline's character.
I ship Klaroline; but Klaus was toxic. I could only ever see this ship becoming endgame if Klaus redeemed himself first.
Caroline had chemistry with everyone except Stefan.
Bamon had potential (and it was literally in the books). If they had come up with a "I had my humanity off" plotline it would have made the ship work🤷🏻‍♀️
Bonezo is a good ship and is clearly less toxic than Bamon; but it only happened to please racist dullena fans that complained about Bamon's romantic implications(even if it happened in the books)
Caroline, Katherine, Bonnie, & Stefan are the most interesting characters of TVD
Jeremy & Anna were cute IDK🤷🏻‍♀️
Matt did not deserve the hate. His feelings were valid. All his friends were killers and he was an abandoned, heartbroken boy, whose mom was a drunk and pedophile, and his only sister & family was killed by the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend who he loved alot, just cause he decided he was bored. He remained loyal & brave to his friends and they didn't account for their murders and killings & stopped caring for the innocent.
Alaric was not a bad father and teacher. Even if he had his slip-ups he was actually an interesting & good character.
Damon is way too defended In this fandom. People should like the character and not defend the wrongs?! Just how many women has he compelled to sleep with him and to let him drink their blood? And what about what he did to Aaron whitmore? He slaughtered entire families of Innocents even while dating Elena. So all that "sHe mAkEs hiM bEtTeR" crap, is not valid. You can like Ian's acting and the smugness of his character, & like the character for those reasons, without defending the terrible acts of the character.
Delena was a horrible ship. The only reason it's popular is due to the shallow fact that people see Ian as more handsome than Paul. The ship only has good chemistry and looks. Beyond that, there is nothing.
Stefan is still the better man. (Fried humanity/off humanity Stefan don't count just as it goes for all the other vampires) Gaslighting writing through the other characters won't change that(Nice try, Julie P)🤷🏻‍♀️
Alaric and Jo were really cute together. I don't care. They made epic twins together.
Elena is overloved; but overhated at the same time. It's annoying. Just love the kind human girl that she used to be and hate the vicious, selfish girl she became, without hating her for breathing. That simple.
Klelijah(Katherine x Elijah) is not a good ship. Katherine loved stefan. She was only using Elijah to survive, and back then she only pitied him. Elijah also only was with her because of what he did to Tatia
Katherine did deserve better though, even if she did bad things. Making her the biggest/& ultimate devil and pretending there wasn't any good in her was incredibly misogynistic. Like Damon & Klaus did worse things and they get happy lives and good character ends? Like No! Horrible! Katherine's core was a scared little girl who wanted to live a normal human life while still being powerful and beautiful. She was chased for 500 years, had to see her entire family slaughtered, lost a baby because of misogynistic expectations, found her again, just to see her last family die again. Did she do horrible things? Yes; all to survive. But she also saved Jeremy, Damon, Stefan, encouraged Elena to be honest about what she felt for Damon even when she didn't have to.
Caroline did annoying things; but overall she was an interesting character. And she was way too smart and strong as a vampire. I loved seeing it.
Bonnie deserved so much more than the show gave her. I hope she gets her own show one day. A show about witches would be pretty lit.
Rebecca could have tried harder to be kinder and less evil. I get she had centuries of habits she needed to break but still. (Elena stabbing her in the back was still shit though)
Klaus was evil to his default and was an abuser to his family. I'm glad he changed/died for hope; but still I would have been nice if there were other factors to this action.
They shouldn't have thrown away the good of Elijah Mikalson. He didn't deserve that. The way they also tried to pull a Stefan on him.
Haylijah was a cute ship🤷🏻‍♀️
Esther wasn't wrong about her children being evil as vampires. And what she wanted to do with them was have them live as humans.
What the originals did to Marcel was fucked up
What the originals did to Davina was cruel
I wish we could have seen more of the witch that played "the hollow".
Glamorizing Hope's evil side is not "a flex". Again, like the character & actor art; but not the vicious actions.
Hosie should have been canon
That random new original sister was so unnecessary.
Kolvina is the most interesting ship of the entire TVDverse I wish there was more of them
All TVD ships were good I just find: Steroline, Delena, & Klamille to be cringe. Steroline only happened to compensate Forwood/& Klaroline and justify Delena. And Delena only happened because of looks and the love story was trash. Klamille was also a compensation ship to Klaroline so yeah, cringe.
TVD writing, lore, acting, cinematography,. directing is all a 10. The only thing that is trash is the ending and all the romantic entanglement the show had.
Hope this helps!
Mikaelson’s Mansion
Klaus had gathered Caroline and the Bennett witch to help him get Raelyn back. He even insisted on the help of Stefan even though he didn’t really trust him at the moment. He hit his hands on the table glaring at the witch. “So what exactly can you do to bring my darling Raelyn back?”
“Why do you assume that I can fix her? She’s a vampire and it’s a choice to turn off that switch or so I am told. So what makes you think that I can bring her back?” She asked him, rolling her eyes at him.
He growled. “Because you had enough power to unlink me from my siblings. You had enough power to help Rae get her magic back. You had enough power to show that she had my three babies still alive in her. So I don’t see the reason for such heasition!”
"Klaus, we are trying to help because we care about her too. So don’t snap if someone sounds insane." Caroline spat in his direction.
"I want her to be herself again. If she has her humanity on then she won't be a Ripper. I know Raelyn better than either of you!" He spattered.
Caroline snapped her fingers at him. "Klaus, shut up please. It won’t help get her back any further if we keep bickering. So just tell us what you think will be helpful.”
“The one person that is key to her humanity would be Jacob.” He ran a hand through his curls sighing and biting his lip.
Bonnie made a face. “Who’s Jacob?”
“He’s my son.” The three whipped their heads around at the new woman’s voice seeing her standing in the doorway. Eliza Lane and her husband Kayce met the gaze of the hybrid eyeing the pair.
Kayce extended his hand forward, nervous by how fast his heartbeat was going. “Mr. Mikaelson. I wish I could say it was a pleasure to finally meet you. But I guess when you fall in love with a witch siphon you kind of give up a normal life as an ordinary human.”
“Call me Klaus, Mr. Lane. I am sorry to contact you in such a way. But your daughter needs to be brought back to reality. Are you familiar with how a vampire's humanity switch works?” Klaus shook his hand seeing a look of confusion on the man’s face.
Caroline took the hybrid by the arm leading him out of the room quickly. “Esculent us for a second.” Once they’re around the corner and out of ear shot she hits him on the arm. “What is wrong with you. Have you not told them she was a vampire yet?”
“I told them that her life was in danger, that is all they needed to know.” He raised his voice at the blonde.
She gripped her hair in between her fingers groaning with her head thrown backwards. “Have you lost your mind. How could you not tell them that she was a…a vampire. They deserve to know that their only living child is now a vampire.”
“Again your nagging isn’t helping. Raelyn’s life is more important then the truth - wait she told me repeatedly if she died when she was the leader then everyone else would die. So how the bloody hell are her mother, uncle Joshua and cousin Josette alive?”
The hybrid stomped into the living room slamming his hands on the table at the witch. “Bring Josette and Joshua Parker here. They have some explaining to do!”
“My brother doesn’t need to be anywhere near my daughter.” Eliza snapped at him.
His blue eyes fixing on her gaze. “He’s part of the reason she is in this mess. So unless you can tell the Bennett witch a way to get her to start feeling things again. I suggest you fill your human husband on what world he signed up for!”
“Klaus, can we talk alone privately?” Kayce asked the hybrid where they left the room heading upstairs so they wouldn’t be heard as much by Caroline. “I know what is going on it’s just shocking to here what you’re last living child is going through. You’ll understand what I mean the day you two have your children.”
Klaus sighed heavily. “I am not sure about that. What did you want to talk about?”
“In case something bad happens while we help you I want you to know that you have my blessing. I can see that you care deeply for my daughter and obviously treat her right from what my wife told me. And that is all I could ask for in the perfect man for her.” Raelyn’s father delivered to the man before him with a proud smile reaching into his pocket.
Klaus raised his brows at the man who could become his father in law. “Blessing for what exactly, Mr. Lane?” He already had a guess but needed the man to say it.
“Her hand in marriage, son.” He smiled, showing him a tiny golden ring placing it into his hand. “It’s her grandmother Margaret’s. She said that she was always supposed to get it after she died.”
Klaus almost broke down to tears but he slowly hugs the man instead catching them both off guard when it occurred. “Thank you, sir.”
Raelyn’s pov
Downing a long drink of beer I shook my head beginning to a buzz sitting the glass on the counter calling out to Matt. “Another round, Matty.”
“Don’t you think you have had enough?” He asked me.
About to vamp over the bar and rip his neck, someone walked up snapping back at the only human left in the save Elena gang. “You better not refuse a girl's request. Didn’t your mother teach you some manners?”
“Yes..uh sorry.” He left quietly.
Flinging my head around I was met with a girl with brown eyes and hair where I could smell the wolf on her. She sat down on the empty bar stool beside mine. “You looked like you would bite his head off there.”
“Well that’s the urge of being a ripper with no humanity vampire. I’m Raelyn.” Sticking out my hand to her.
“Hayley Marshall. I like your necklace.” She shook my hand.
Holding it up to her I smiled weakly at her in a fry and stern manner “Thanks it’s my brothers. Don’t get any ideas of dating him, cause he’s dead.”
“Oh I’m sorry.” She said back.
“I’m not, at least at this moment. My parents basically forced me to kill one another and I just had to be the strong one. Even though I am clearly not strong emotionally anymore. Which is why I turned my humanity off.” I smirked seeing Matt bring off a whole tray of beers from me.
The werewolf girl rests her chin in her hand. “So you’re the girl dating the hybrid Tyler wanted gone?”
“Don’t mention that name!” I snarled in her face, making her jump back a little. “He’s who got me killed in the first place. He deserves to suffer one way or another.”
“Understood. Hey I think you have a visitor who keeps glaring daggers at me.” She pointed with her index finger moving my gaze forward across the room. I saw Nik standing there watching us closely coming our direction when I met his blue eyes.
Gripping my hands into fists at my sides I warned her to leave. “Get out of here, Hayley. I need to talk with my boyfriend alone and trust me it’s best if you leave now.”
“I’ll see you later hopefully.” She exits the grill walking past him without another word.
Nik leans an elbow on the counter watching my movements closely. I could tell that he was here for something serious. Most likely my humanity switch again since he couldn’t accept that this is who I am now. “Raelyn, can we please talk about the switch?”
“You can talk. Doesn’t mean I have to listen.” I scoffed while taking a long sip of my beer.
His blue eyes poured into my gaze. “Privately if you wouldn’t mind.”
Slamming my drink down I followed him outside until we were standing underneath the large clock tower in the center of town with people passing us but they didn’t seem faced so he must be doing some spell with another witch. “So what’s so important, Nik. Have you accepted my offer to turn it off with me?”
“No, I haven’t Rae. But I can’t picture any other life except with the Raelyn Primrose Lane that threw me against a wall when I first asked her name. The girl who has such a stubborn temper I am surprised she hasn’t burned down the house sometime. Who doesn’t know about good art and who doesn’t sit still for a portrait. Who will chase after me when I won’t show her my drawings because I don’t want her to see the beautiful sketch of herself until it is done.” He stepped forward cupping my face in his hands resting his forehead against mine reaching into his pocket drawing out a ring.
Shaking my head I felt some tears welling recognizing the ring from my grandmother. My heart skipped a beat making me want to yank myself away from him but I couldn’t. “Where did you get that from?”
“From your father, it shall belong to the woman that I love. The woman who believes she is broken for the unforgettable torture her family tricked her into doing. But she is a queen fit to be perfect for me. That is the woman I want to become my wife for all eternity and I know her family would agree with me.” Klaus Mikaelson lowered himself down onto one knee making me cover my mouth with my hands. “Marry me Raelyn Lane.”
Turning my whole body away from him I struggle to keep not feeling anything. Gripping my hair in my hands I growled at him hearing him slip the ring away so he didn’t lose it. “Urgh this can’t be happening. No….I won’t go back to being broken. I can’t live in a world without him anymore. I thought…I thought I was strong enough too. I made myself say it was to protect Jo but no way in hell was that true. It was because Jacob asked me too, "God, I can’t live in a world he isn’t in!”
“And that is why your mother came at my call offering the ultimate sacrifice when it comes to getting the love of my life back. She has a message for you that you need to see.” He gently but also forcefully grabs my face in his hands making me stare into his orbs. He pressed his forehead against mine showing me inside his head again that hadn’t happened since I was still human making me gasp gripping his forearms.
I could see that he had called Bonnie and Caroline in to help him. The three were standing around a round table with a circle of candles sitting on it. “So if her brother is the key is there a way we can contact him from what Rae said was called the Other Side?” Caroline asked, leaning her palms on the table.
“Are we sure it even really exists?” Bonnie was uneasy about this plan.
Klaus responded entering the room once again with my father Kayce. "Yes it is real. My mother has mentioned a place like this. So what exactly is the plan?"
"Well what if we tried this spell…Phasmatos manex un domo hax, fero adiuvex." Bonnie began saying a spell.
My mother held her hand stopping her. "No, that spell won't work. It will only bring the spirit of the deceased temporally. That won't be enough. We have to try something harder."
"Harder. That doesn't sound good. What does that mean?" Caroline said, crossing her arms over her chest glancing at the others.
My father came closer to my mother. "Eliza, what are you about to do?"
"A spell that requires a lot of magic. I'll need the strength of the witch and of you." She focused her eyes on Bonnie and then Klaus. "My daughter's humanity is connected to her twin. So he has to come back all the way. He has to be here physically. No exceptions."
"I'm not going to like this spell am I?" Dad asked her reaching for her hand squeezing them together. "Eliza, just know that I love you. No matter what happens here."
Eliza rounded the table grabbing Klaus by his forearm. "Klaus, I want you to deliver a message to my daughter. Because once I do this spell it will require someone to take Jacob's place. The witch who casts the spell will take his place. I want you to tell her I am sorry for all the pain that was caused because of me. I'm sorry for what my Coven did to my children. This will make up for all of that and I hope that she forgives me one day. She needs to know that I love her."
"I will, Mrs. Eliza. I am just sorry that it had to come to this." He apologized holding her hands in mine.
She smiled up at him. "I would do anything for my children. You will see what I mean after your children are born…now let's bring my children back." The pair entered the room with her taking Bonnie's hand siphoning both of them together. Kayce and Caroline both watched closely, seeing the blood on the table where it separated into two lines of blood. The candles flames grew bigger where Eliza opened her eyes seeing a figure of her son beginning to appear meaning the spell was working. "Phasmatos tribum, nas ex veras, radamis Phasmatos ex sonos. Resustamen ex veram vatas. Radamis phasmatos ex sonos."
Shoving my hands against his chest I gasped beginning to sob heavily. Clutching my hands into fists at my sides I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. Klaus slowly raised his hand holding my shoulders. "Raelyn, I'm sorry. I didn't know she was going to do that until it was too late. She was insisting on bringing her children back."
"So she's dead. She's dead and it's.. my fault. I can't…I can’t believe this. She thinks that I hate her…but I don't. I love her it's just with everything!" Collapsing onto my knees, my hair falling over my face, I croaked through tears. My entire body was shaking when I heard footsteps coming our way. "This is all my fault. What have I done?"
Gently I felt someone place a hand on my shoulder causing me to flinch away grasping the person's wrist underneath my fingernails until I blinked through tears seeing who it was. "That's not possible..oh my God."
"Hey Rae Rae. Long time no see huh." He smiled down at me with the wind running through his curly blonde locks.
Flinging my arms around his neck with me remaining on my knees I sobbed into his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around my waist crying too, finally getting to hold me once again. "Jacob!"
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“You can’t go.” You hear Matt say, but you can’t take your eyes off Frank.
“You gonna stop me?” Frank growls back, stepping to put himself between the two of you. To his credit, the lawyer doesn’t seem intimidated, more just pissed off.
“You? I don’t care what you do— but I made a promise to that kid outside and to your girlfriend that I’d do whatever it took to help her, and I’m not letting you ruin it because you want to let off steam and kill someone.”
“You do your job, I’ll do mine.” Frank says. Matt scoffs, shaking his head.
“You make my job pretty difficult if you go and play Bonnie and Clyde all through the capital. Bobby Gnucci is on the FBI’s most wanted list, and with everything going on in the past six months, it’s too risky. Not to mention Madani, who’s giving you one shot at living a semi-normal life.” Matt turns to you now, face angled in your direction over Franks shoulder. “If you know where he is, we can use him. Make him answer for the things he’s done to you, and what he’s probably doing to others.”
Your heart was slamming in your chest, and now Frank had turned to look at you. Almost like he expected you to know what you wanted. You thought you would want him dead. You want him to suffer, to watch him die the way he made you watch hundreds of others die; at your hands. But what Matt was saying made sense, too. With Bobby alive, if you could get him to Madani, maybe your own freedom was still on the table.
It seemed like the biggest problem you faced right now was figuring out how to stay anonymous. You couldn’t risk your enemies finding out who you were, let alone finding out you had a brother. Keeping your faces out of the public eye meant if you brought Bobby in, no one would be chasing you. One more loose end to tie up.
“If I— if we brought Bobby back here, would that mean there wouldn’t be a trial?” Frank walks out of your view, shaking his head, and you hear a door close softly behind you. Your heart pulls, but Matt starts talking before you can follow him.
“It’d be the trial of the decade, but you would be kept out of it. You’d be a key witness, and I can guarantee both you and your brother would be anonymous since you wouldn’t be on the stand. Plus, Madani can cover her ass and keep your face out of it completely.” It all sounds like something out of a dream you had, something so far off but now it was right in front of you. “It’ll be like you were never there.”
Another door opens, and your brother comes through, smiling. Like, really smiling. Taking in a deep breath, the idea of having options for freedom should feel like a weight off your chest— instead, it only makes you feel heavier.
“I… I need—“
“Take some time. We have a little bit now, if you really know where he is.” Matt nods knowingly, and you hear the distracted talking of Karen and your brother on the couch. He looks at you and smiles again, and you return it.
“He’ll be there.” You were certain of it. “I should…” Your head nods to the now closed door of Matt’s room, and he smirks.
“Good luck with that.” An exhausted laugh cracks it’s way out of your throat as you head towards the door.
When you open it, Frank is pacing on the opposite side of the room. He’s walking slow, but it’s one of the few times you’ve seen his hands anything but steady. When the door clicks shut behind you, he stops, looking up and keeping the distance of the double bed between you.
“We are not playing that game again.” Frank says, looking you dead in the eye.
“Frank, this is not a game.”
“It’s a fuckin’ joke.”
“This is a chance at a real life, and you might not like it— fuck, I hate it, but these things are gonna happen. You knew involving Madani would come at a cost, and this is it.”
“So this whole thing is my fucking fault?” Your head falls back, staring at the ceiling— it was like talking to a wall.
“No. I didn’t say that.”
“You remember the last time you had the bright idea to take someone hostage?” He steps back, leaning against the wall, and your mind flashes to the Colonel. Whole lot of good that did you. “We spent twenty four hours hauling that piece of shit in the back of a car, and he gave us nothing. Instead, he lead his men straight to you, and we ended up killing him anyways.”
“I know—“
“So you think now that Murdocks flashing a brief case and a few pretty words that all this ends with him in prison?” Anger dripped from every word, but you couldn’t feel his words hitting you. He wasn’t angry at you— it was something else. “None of this ends until Gnucci and every one of his men are dead and buried. I’m not risking your life because you want to play nice all of a sudden.”
“Frank, don’t—“
“No. I know how this shit goes, and if he’s not dead, it’s not over. You’ve already killed for this guy a hundred times over, and now you have the chance to get your own back and protect your brother, you’re not going to take it? You didn’t have a problem taking down the Colonel—“
“You shut the fuck up right now!” You spit, fists clenched hard. The sharp points of your nails come out against your will, digging into the flesh of your palm so hard you can feel blood pooling. “Who the fuck do you think you are, throwing that back in my face!? When you know exactly how much I have to get him back, you fucking prick!”
“That’s —“
“Shut up! This is my chance— my fucking chance. This is what I have to do. You don’t think I want him dead? You don’t think I fucking dreamed about it every day for years on end? I want him mounted on my god damn wall— but if it’s at the cost of my brothers shot at a free life away from all this, then I will cart Bobby’s ass across the country if I have to. I’m not saying we don’t take as many of his fucking guys down with us, but if they need Bobby to give Sam a chance to live like a normal kid, I’m doing it.” The gasping of both of your heated breaths is the only sound in the room, and Franks jaw stays shut tightly. “You heard what Matt said. If we can bring him here, we can do this quietly. I know you care about Sam, you wouldn’t have taken him in if you didn’t, and I know you care about Madani, and what happens to her.”
“I don’t give a fuck about any of this if Bobby Gnucci gets to live.” Like a gun had went off, you take a step back. It was probably the most selfish thing you’d heard him say since you met him.
“That’s a lie, and you know it.”
“I’m not letting you do this.” He ignores your comment, his eyes going out of focus for a second.
“And me? If this is what I want?” He shakes his head, suddenly quiet. “I don’t want to live my life like this, Frank. I don’t want to run from people, or pretend to be legally dead. I want a—“
“A normal life. Yeah.” He sits on the floor, not looking at you. “I get it.”
“Nothing about my life is normal. I just… I want to not be worried my brothers going to die every god damn day! He was— I was never meant for a life like this. If I kill Bobby, I replace his men with the FBI, and everything he wanted to happen, happens anyway. Even if Madani fakes our death like you said, I have too many enemies, too many people that I’ve fucked with to be put in a globally accessible system like that. They’d come for me. For Sam!” You take a step around the bed, your voice getting softer as you try to take a few breaths and calm yourself down. “They’d come for you, and I can’t have that, even if you hate me for it.”
“I can handle my own shit.”
“I’m not saying you can’t, but this isn’t just New York. There’s thousands of them. It’s… you know what I did to them.” He doesn’t say anything, staring down at the floor. His head was in his hands, and even though Frank Castle was the silent type, something about this was unnerving. He was still half obstructed by the bed, but you couldn’t tell if taking a step forward would make him back up or come closer to you. You hadn’t yelled at each other like this since those shitty hotels you stayed in when you first met, and it left an acidic taste in your mouth.
“Guys like that don’t get to live. That’s not what I do.” Frank says finally, his voice muffled in his hands.
“I know. It’s not what I do, either. Like you said, I’ve killed for him a thousand times. Why should I change now?” It comes out more bitter than it should have, and Frank says something but you don’t hear it. “This is my chance to start fresh.”
“Fresh.” He grates, still not looking up. “You go get your fresh fuckin’ start.”
“Look at me.” He does, and then he finally stands up. In two, slow steps he clears the space between you. His face was hard, and he was breathing slow, like he was trying to keep himself controlled.
“You go. Get your fresh start, get your ass to Paris or wherever the hell you want to go and put all this behind you. You were never meant for this shit, right?” You blink a few times, trying to comprehend the sight before you. His eyes were a little red, and some look you hadn’t seen ever before is on his face.
“What are you talking about?”
“This is all I got! This— all this blood on your hands? It’s on mine too, but I don’t have a choice. There’s no way out. Killing Bobby is the only thing I can give you, and if that’s not what you want anymore than what the fuck are we doing?” His voice cracked, and even with all the shit he was saying your heart still broke hearing him sound like that. “This is the kind of man I am. I won’t keep your brother safe, and I’m not going to hold your fucking hand while we cart around assholes like Bobby Gnucci. I’m going to kill him— and I’m not changing my fucking mind.”
He was breathing so quick you thought he might pass out. Practically shaking, he held his ground, and you tried to drown out the sound of the TV getting louder outside. Frank must of been yelling, or at least talking loud enough for them to need to drown him out. You could see the regret in his face, in how he was practically folding in on himself, waiting for you to walk out on him. Instead, you stepped forward.
“No, you won’t.” His face was nearly touching yours, he was that close.
“No? You don’t know shit about me, then.” His voice was deadly soft. A strained whisper, voice breaking just a little. “This shit is real for me. You might not of wanted this— but I do. This is who I chose to be, and I’m not changing now.”
“I’m not asking you to change. I’m asking you to—“
“To what? Be your lap dog? Follow you around until you get bored of running? Cause I don’t get an immunity deal with the FEDS or a shiny new lawyer. This is all I got, sweetheart.” He was being mean, and any other day you’d throw it back to him, drop to his level, but his face right now was unlike you’d ever seen.
There was half of you that wanted to fight him. Throw as much venom back as he was spitting at you, be cruel and vindictive, and Hell— maybe there was a small voice in your head telling you to leave and finish this yourself. But the majority of you, the part that’s thawed out over these past few months with him knows that isn’t what he needs right now, and it isn’t what you really want. You tried to channel what he did that day in the hotel. Let him yell as much as he needed, and be there to pick up the pieces.
“I’m asking you to do this with me.” Your hands cup his face, and for a split second his eyes close, then open wide, still lined with rage.
“I can’t.” He tries to slip away but you hold him tight, fingertips borderline painful with their grip on him. He stops pulling when he feels you’re not going to let go. “I can’t let him go alive.”
“Yeah you can. You did it once before.”
“That was different. He didn’t…” Frank looks away from your eyes, at the little scar on your forehead, now completely healed. “The shit he did to you? You want me to let him go, baby?”
“Frank.” You sigh. Your shoulders sag, thumb tracing over his cheekbones.
“Christ. Fuck, I’m sorry. Let’s get out of here, we’ll get back to—“
“Do you love me?” He squeezes him eyes shut, like the question is as painful as a punch in the gut. “Frank, do you love me?”
“Fuck.” He hisses. “Don’t ask me that. Not now.”
“Too fucking bad. Answer me.” Your heart drops to your feet, terrified to hear the answer if it’s not the one you’re waiting for.
“Yeah. Yes. Yes.” Your thumb wipes away the tear on his cheek, keeping him steady as he nods. “Yes.”
“Then do this with me. We bring him back, together.” He was still nodding, eyes tightly shut, leaning against you like he’d break apart. “And Frank? This… this is not all you are.”
“Stop.” He whispers, the softness of it cracking away the hardest parts of you, turning them to warm tides. He was already shaking his head when you starting talking.
“You kept Sam safe. You did. You are that kind of man— and killing people is not all you are. It’s… that’s all I thought I was. For a long time, I thought I was a monster.” His hands grip your waist, and he leans into you further. “But you showed me I don’t have to be that. That I had choices, even if they were small. You told me I could make my own decisions, that I didn’t have to be what they made me— what I made myself into. And then, when you told me I could leave, I chose you. I chose to stay. Nothing will change that. No matter what happens next, even if you can’t do this with me, I will follow you anywhere you let me.”
“I can’t give you what you want.” You lean up on your toes and kiss his forehead lightly. “This will end for you, but it never ends for me. There ain’t a happy ending for this.”
“I don’t care. You are what I want. Even when this ends, I chose to stay. I want this, and whatever comes next. I just want you.” He hauls you to his mouth, the taste of salt and him mixing on your tongue. The kiss is desperate and pleading— apologetic and searching for forgiveness, and you give it. You could take whatever words he’d throw at you, like he would take yours. You were both stubborn and volatile and mean but it didn’t matter, because you were both here, and there wasn’t a single thing in the world that would trump the feeling of his mouth on yours.
You both only pull away when your gasping for air, one of Franks hands tangled in your hair while the other is wrapped snug around your waist. His eyes were still closed, almost like he was afraid to open them, but when he was ready you met them, like an equal. A team.
“We bring him back, alive. Kill the rest.” Frank says into your mouth and you nod.
“Burn that shit to the ground.” You say in earnest. You want that place destroyed— the lower levels were like the levels of Hell itself, and you wanted to make sure no one would ever see those walls again. “Sam—“
“Stays. If we aren’t cleaning house in Washington, he stays far away.” Frank says, and you roll your eyes.
“I was going to say that.”
“Were you?”
“Well, I don’t generally plan to bring the twelve year old on a hostage mission.” Frank blows out a breath, close enough to a laugh, and then goes quiet for a second. You know the guilt will be eating him up— he was constant like that. Guilt was practically his middle name. “You ever throw that Colonel shit in my face again, or any of it, and I’ll put you through the window.”
“I hope you do.” He looks down, searching for words he doesn’t have. He didn’t mean it, and you’d said twice as bad things to him in your time. Apologies felt like placebos at this point, and even if it was a bit mean, you’d take his real emotion over the fake shit he used to feed you any day.
“Just do what you said you would. Do this with me, and we won’t bring it up again.” You kiss him again, and he tightens his grip. You feel the press of his chest to yours tighten and release, and his head falls onto your shoulder.
“I’m scared.” He says lowly, and you physically feel your body slump in response to how… broken he sounds. “Scared of losing you. If he walks, he’s gonna come for you and the kid. I can’t lose… fuck, I can’t do it again. I can’t.”
“I am not going anywhere.” You nudge him upwards, his nose dragging along the soft skin of your neck.
“When I lost Maria and the kids… I won’t come back from that again. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t live with myself until I knew every single one of those fuckers were dead. You’re asking me to let this guy go after what he did to you and I can’t—“
“If he ever gets out, I’ll kill him myself. Besides, you’ll be with me. What do I have to worry about?” He nods once, and you fall into silence again. This one isn’t like the others. It’s comfortable. Soothing. He holds you for a second longer, and as he lets go his hands stay reaching out, afraid to let you slip through them.
“I don’t like compromise.” His eyes meet yours again, and you have to stop yourself from sighing in relief. He looks like him again, eyes focused on you like they have been since you met him.
“Don’t pout. It’s not cute.” He scoffs, muttering something as he heads for the door.
“Come on. You wanna do this, you can be the one to tell Murdock.” You walk up next to him, feigning an innocent expression. “I ain’t feeding that guys ego anymore.”
“Oh? I thought you guys were such close friends.” Frank growls a string of curse words under his breath as you both walk back into the living room.
“She tell you I was right?” Matthew says from the couch, and you wouldn’t be surprised if Frank shoved you out of the way and knocked him on the jaw.
“Fuck off.” Frank says instead, walking to the other side of the room to stand in the corner. Matt laughs, but you still can’t take your eyes off Frank, and the subtle smile he gives Sam even though he’s clearly pissed off.
“Your phones been ringing off the hook.” Matt looks at Frank and he takes any chance to get out of the room, disappearing from view. “You sort it out?”
“We’ll bring him back. Alive.” Matt nods. “But I can’t control what happens after that.”
“I only need a few hours.” You frown, confused. “I’m a really good lawyer.”
“So I’ve heard.” He laughs again, picking up a few papers from the table. “Look, I just want to say thank-you again. You didn’t have to do any of this, and I know it isn’t the easiest situation, but… I can’t tell you how much it means. To me and Sam, and Frank. Don’t tell him I said that, though.”
“I’m happy to. These kinds of cases are why I became a lawyer in the first place. Even if it means working with guys like him.” He nods to where Frank disappeared, and you blow out a breath.
“He’s not all bad.”
“I know.” Matt gives you a knowing smile before Frank comes back in the room. His face is devoid of any emotion from your talk earlier, and a pit of dread builds in your stomach at his hard expression.
“Madani. Says Bobby’s guys just broke into my old apartment. Took everything, burnt the rest. Karen’s old place, too.” Shit. “We need to move, now.”
“Okay— just let me…” You look down at Sam, who’s already standing next to you. Frank was looking at him too, and you didn’t like the look in his eye.
“She’s got somewhere for him.” He says softly. “He can’t stay here. It’s only a matter of time.”
“Where?” Your voice cracks.
“Some kind of witness protection. There’s too many of ‘em to track. He’s a sitting duck here.” He says the last part in your ear, and Matt somehow catches it.
“He’s safe here.” Matt says, and Frank laughs.
“They found us. Karen’s place. How long you think it’s going to take for them to find this place, or the next?” He was right. You knew it, and as much as you trusted Matt and Karen, they wouldn’t be enough. “Madani’s got the doctors family out and safe. He can go with them, stay there till we get this handled.”
Your throat was tight as you looked down at Sam’s face, thinking about the last time you told him you had to leave. You’d left him enough, you had no idea how to explain this to him—
“It’s okay. I can go.” Sam stands in front of you, looking about ten years older with that determined look on his face. “I can go, and then you’ll come back after, right?”
“Of course.” You bend down further, hugging him tightly. “Can’t get rid of me now.”
He was grinning— a big difference to the kid that you pulled out of the boot of that car just a day or two ago. The bruises on his face were fading, but that wasn’t the reason he was looking brighter. He was around people, ones that gave a shit about him, and he was getting the first taste of real freedom he’d remember. He looked up at Frank, then, smiling a little wider, and it was clear you weren’t the only sibling with an affinity for him.
“Go fuck him up, then.” Sam says seriously. You think about telling him he shouldn’t swear, but if your worst problem with this kid was him saying ‘fuck’ then you’ve gotten off pretty well.
Frank was already getting the remains of your stuff together, and you spent the remaining few minutes with Sam. You can hear Matt and Frank outside, Karen having disappeared to give you some space, and when the two of them came back in the room, Matt looked pissed and Frank was hanging at the door, face blank.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“Meet you outside.” Frank said before leaving the living room and shoving the front door of Murdocks apartment out of his way.
He had spent all of four hours in that place, and it was four too fucking many. He was on edge now— and the argument with you was still heavy on his mind. Now Madani was calling with more bad news, and he started to feel like a caged animal.
He knew he was out of line with some of the shit he said, but like he told you; he was fucking scared. Last time he let someone live instead of just killin’ him it came back to bite him in the ass, and innocent people died. Because of him. His family was dead because he didn’t take care of the shit he should of. That wasn’t even the half of it. What he knows this guy has done to you, Frank wasn’t sure he was gonna have it in him not to put a bullet between his eyes the second he saw him.
He just couldn’t say no to you. Not when you asked him like that.
Walking outside, he leant against the car, rubbing the palms of his hands on his jeans. He could put it down to how many things could go wrong back in Washington, or the phone call with Madani, but really, the thing that was giving him sweaty palms and a headache was what you asked him. And what he’d said.
“Do you love me?”
“Yeah. Yes. Yes.”
He knows it’s not the first time he said it. The last time he wasn’t even sure if you’d caught it— your eyes rolled back in your head and you saying his name all high pitched and whiney like he loved to hear. He couldn’t help it; basically poured out of him. You’d looked so fucking pretty under him, and twenty four hours without you was enough to give him withdrawals. It made him nervous as shit, though, doesn’t matter how true it was.
He saw you come out the front of the apartment block, walking straight towards him. Frank was half sure you were going to come to your senses and walk up and smack the shit out of him, but you started to slow down just in time to wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him.
He couldn’t remember anything he was thinking about before, just that you were threading your hands in his hair like you always did, and he chased the feeling as you pushed against him. His hands went to your hips, bending down further so he could take control. He didn’t give a fuck about the people walking past, he let his hands wander wherever made you moan in his mouth the loudest, smiling a little as you squeaked when his hands grabbed a little harder on your ass.
You pulled back first, breathless and smiling, but he could see in your eyes you’d cried a little before you came down here.
“You okay?” You nodded quickly, kissing him again. He knew it was probably leaving Sam that had you upset, but he’d given you a hard time, too.
“Mhmm.” You hummed against his mouth. “You drive.”
“Huh?”
“You were a dick. You can drive.” You lean up to kiss him again, but before he can react you shove him out of the way, sliding yourself into the passenger seat. He blows out a laugh, closing your door for you.
“Yes, ma’am.” He can see your smile even through the tinted windows. It’s probably the sweetest thing he’s seen in a while.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“These, too.” You drop another magazine on the counter, and Frank looks down at you with a blank face. “What?”
He pays for the items, two bags full of shit you probably don’t need and snacks you won’t get through, but you were milking this apology for all it was worth. Besides, with you only being an hour out from Washington, things were about to get complicated. You would take every light moment you could.
“A little help?” You struggle with the overflowing bags, and Frank looks back at you.
“You’re fine.” He says, walking straight back out to the car. As you trail behind him, he’s almost enjoying watching you juggle your shit to the car, but he opens the door for you anyways. Sliding back into the front seats, Frank pulls out onto the highway. “Murdock texted. Sam made it safe.”
“You texting him?” Frank makes a sound, some kind of growl that makes you smirk. “Maybe I should be the one who’s jealous.”
“Funny.”
“I feel like shit. Palming him off.” You watched the muscles in Franks face twitch as he shook his head.
“You’re not palming him off. It’s keepin’ him safe. Besides, the way Madani told it, Doctors family was more than happy to take him in. Said they owed you their lives.” The thought makes you feel sick. They didn’t owe you anything— you were half the reason they were in danger in the first place. “They got kids, too. It’ll be good for him.”
“Yeah.” Frank puts his hand on your thigh, and your breath shakes for a different reason. He keeps it there, thumb stroking up and down just a little higher than normal, and you catch him glancing at you through the mirror.
“This’ll be over soon. All this shit.” Frank says, his voice a tone softer.
“I nearly choked last time I saw him.” Franks hand got tighter on your thigh, knowing you were talking about Bobby. “Going back there, knowing he’s waiting… it’s just freaking me out.”
“I’m not gonna let ‘im anywhere near you.” He stopped himself for a second, keeping his eyes on the road when he spoke again. “You don’t have to do this.”
“Sure I don’t.”
“You don’t. You… look, I can go in there, clean this shit out, meet you back in New York in a day.” You swallowed a laugh— because only he would make any of this seem that simple. Sure, you could give this over to him, or Madani, or you could have just told Karen where he was, and within the day it would be swarmed by agents.
All this could be over, and you could wash your hands of it.
But the truth was— even if you didn’t want to say it out loud, or admit it to anyone, you wanted this. You chose this, to finish this with your own two hands. You might not have wanted to turn out like this, but it was who you were now. You look at Frank, someone who’s life would have been completely different had he chosen a different life, but here he was. He had chosen to live like this, gotten the revenge he needed, and it might have taken a part of him with it, but you still looked at him and saw good.
For all the violence and blood on your hands, this was one time you were going to get what you needed— what you deserved.
“No. I want this.” Is all you said, and the two of you drove in silence, Franks hand never moving from your thigh.
Idk if anyone's ever asked u this but what would ur life in tvd be like?! Including ur family ,career, friends, species etc lmao
oh ho ho, so this is certainly a thing i've considered
as someone who maladaptive daydreams all day long (whenever i'm not writing basically), trust me when i say i have an entire life planned out
in fact, the things i write frequently represent these daydreams, except i have an OC for them, whereas for writing, i am committed to the 'x reader' way
✨ including my readers in my world of delusion & fantasy ✨
but onwards and upwards…
species
first, I feel like being a heretic would be so fucking cool
like… vampire with witch powers, c'mon now… being the underdog your whole life and then rising to be the most powerful, it's gotta be redeeming
plus seems so fun
but personally, I think I'd stick to being just a witch, and I have a solid reason for this
now, being a vampire would be cool, too (and honestly I need to write more vampire reader fics), because I absolutely love the bloodthirsty, badassery of vampires
so if not a witch (bc I love the thought of being able to do magic), I would go with vamp second
I still hate the TVDU wolves. literally all of them. as someone who watches Teen Wolf now, I would LOVE to be one of those wolves, but as for TVDU, I still HATE those guys
being a hybrid doesn't sound too bad, although then both Klaus and Tyler would be all up in my business all the time, and that sounds awful
so no wolfishness for me
for species, I'd be a witch, but then I get turned into a vampire in my mid-20s
career
I need to eat, so I need to work
idk how anybody except Matt got by without a job
and like Matt, I work at the Mystic Grill, but I'm a little older than them, so I can bartend (even tho underage Matt does too)
I was going to Whitmore College, but dropped out (like I did lmao)
friends
Mystic Falls gang but in varying degrees of friendliness
most with Caroline, loving her bubbly personality; drift away from Elena when she gets tied up with the Salvatores; drift from Bonnie when she starts dating Jeremy, then drift further after the Kai debacle
also, the Originals
Kol has the title of the best friend; Bex is close, too
sometimes I'm so much of a Kolvina shipper that I can't split Kol & Davina apart, even tho I'm in love with Kol, too
Klaus is a frenemy; I like him when he's not murderous. he can be loyal when he wants to be, same with Elijah.
in fact, I liked Elijah in s2-era, but was also a little afraid. my crush fizzled out the moment I saw Kol, but then she & him became good friends instead (with both)
hooked up with Kol once or twice when he still lived in MF
friendly with Jo, but she's not really having it once I get with Kai
same with Luke and Liv... friendly, but Liv hates me after the merge
circa-season 7, I want to be friends with Nora & Mary Louise, but the MF gang works hard at keeping me away from them
amidst the chaos, I manage to get my way and befriend them anyway, earning their trust by being so close to Kai
when I die, I'm given blood by Nora, like in the fic I wrote recently, or Damon, who likes me enough to keep me alive and knows Kai would slaughter him if he ever came back and found out
seasons 7-8, I'm very much teaming on both sides, friends with MF gang and heretics, which is frustrating to MF gang (minus Caroline, who has become somewhat reliant on heretics for help with her pregnancy. + she always understands me anyway.)
frenemies
Tyler and Matt get their own category, bc I don't hate them, but they certainly piss me off
Tyler's just annoying in general, and I hate how he treats Caroline while he's away hybrid-ing
he gets better in s6 when he's trying to impress Liv & Caroline is over him. still not a friend, but less of an enemy
Matt, on the other hand, is complicated
he was my way into the supernatural bc we worked together
he had trouble keeping it from me bc vampires would always show up at the grill, and one time, he forgot I wasn't in the circle and ranted about vamps and wolves before he remembered
he and the gang still try to keep me out of it, despite my knowledge
but that all fails when Kol is undaggered, finds me alone, and we become friends
the fact that he actively hates vampires while hooking up with Rebekah bothers me, which causes tension between us
but he's stronger than he looks and loyal if he trusts you, so I try to keep him on my good side
family
my TVDU OC is the same OC I've had since I was 13 that I've slightly adapted for different fandoms
in TVDU, my parents are divorced; mom moved away, and toxic dad lives about 2 hours away while I'm in college
I hide whenever he comes to MF to visit
occasionally, my parents are dead like everyone else's
sometimes, though, I'm the older sister of other characters, but that varies per daydream
sometimes, I'm Tyler's older sister who is actually a wolf
triggered my curse young in life by accident, but didn't tell Tyler until he had triggered his own
sometimes, I'm even Matt's older sister, and he still spends every waking minute trying to keep me out of the supernatural
I've also used the Salvatore sister storyline with Kol, and Gilbert cousin one for both Kol and Kai
dating life
Kai, ofc
MF gang tried sooo hard to us apart, especially bc I'm a witch, but they lost that battle quickly
couldn't keep me from work, so whenever he'd come in for a drink and I was bartending, we'd talk
gained his trust through listening & he gained mine when I let him siphon
Matt and Damon first to realize we're friends, and know there's nothing they can do
fall into a relationship quickly
either beg Damon to spare him at the end of s6, or beg for his life in s8
had a crush on s2-era Elijah, but did a 180* and fell for Kol instead when he was undaggered
used as Kol bait when Caroline was Klaus bait, but despite a few hook-ups, never actually dated
became close friends & adore his relationship with Davina in NOLA
visit him there or wherever he is every so often
[I honestly never built a solid storyline around being with Kol or Elijah. (Elijah was my first favorite ever, and Kol's my second fave now next to Kai.) I entertain a world of delulu with Kol sometimes, but it lacks foundation.]
basically, he never died (obvs) and I move to NOLA with him (and he never dies there, too)
but I love both witch & vamp Kols, and both their actors, and I really should dedicate more time to delulu daydreams with them 😅
so, now that I've rambled...
species: witch, until Kai's death, then i become a vampire. however, if Kai doesn't die after s6, neither of us turn. (sometimes I'm feelin' heretic-y, sometimes not, what can I say?)
career: working at Mystic Grill; at Whitmore College for two years, but dropped out
friends: Caroline, Bonnie, & Elena first. Stefan & Damon post season 1 when Damon mellows out and I learn to trust Stefan. Kol & Rebekah, and I'm okay with the rest eventually (minus Finn).
family: divorced parents; mom moved and I stay away from my dad
frenemies: Matt & Tyler. s2 Klaus & Elijah. Finn, because I know he was mistreated by Klaus, much like Kol, and I want to be friends, but then he tries to kill his whole family, so I don't feel bad anymore. Then when Finn killed Kol in NOLA, he became a straight-up enemy. Also, I tolerate Alaric, but he annoys me daily in s6-8-era.
~~~
If anyone outside of this site read a single one of these sentences, I would be committed. I love fandoms / fanfiction, because all this stuff is perfectly normal to us. I love us as a community. Anyway, this was super fun to answer! 🥰 I'm sorry it took me so long!

The Agreement
kai parker x reader | requested by @chocolatepalacecloudhoagie back when i asked for fluffy prompts bc i was having a hard month
summary: helping kai adjust to a normal life has its ups and downs, but he, of course, always wins in the end.
tags: domesticity, adjusting to normal life, lots of comfort & cuddling, gemini coven lore, minor indirect mention of abortion where kai's being a dick, but he's mostly soft in this fic, bartender!kai, mentions of alcohol, minor bar fight, minor mention of assault, accidental murder, protective!kai, protective!damon, bonnie is kinda mean in this one, damon secretly wants to be friends with kai, angst & fluff ish
word count: ~9.9k
a/n: this is so cheesy and somewhat choppy but bare with me 😅
Tumblr media
You, Damon, and Bonnie have made a deal. Neither will kill Kai, as long as you can help the witch settle into a new life in Mystic Falls. Those are the terms made, and boy, are they hard to get.
“You can’t fix him, Y/N. He’s beyond fucked up,” Bonnie scoffs, “and I don’t want to be partly responsible if I were to make some crazy deal with you that goes wrong.”
“I just want him to try and have a normal life, Bon. He spent twenty years in an abusive household and another twenty years in isolation. He has no idea what normalcy is.”
“By the sound of that, he’s too far gone for you to even try.”
“Just give me a chance to work with him!”
“I don’t even like you being with him! He’s going to hurt you, and I don’t want that to happen to you.”
“I haven’t given him a reason to hurt me, Bon.”
“He doesn’t need a reason. He just does things.”
“Well, in that case, I’ve given him a reason not to hurt me. I’m the only one willing to try and help him adjust.”
“Y/N-”
“I see the point you’re making, Y/N,” Damon interrupts his best friend, “but are you really going to put all this work in for him? Seriously?”
“Yes! I don’t get why you guys are so against this. I’m helping you out; I’m giving you one less person to worry about that could raise hell in this town.”
“He already has-”
“Bonnie, please.”
“It would be easier to just kill him.”
“Bonnie!”
“Look at him! He’s plotting right now! No one is quiet for that long unless they’re plotting something.”
You sigh and turn to follow her gaze. Kai is sitting on a barstool, in the room of the boarding house that’s surrounded by windows, watching snow fall.
“He’s just observing!”
“Sure he is.”
“And he’s probably trying to tune out this conversation, too. I’d be, if people were talking about me, and two of them wanted to kill me.”
Bonnie gives you a hard glare.
“Four months,” Damon says suddenly.
“What?”
“You have four months to get him settled.”
“Don’t give me a deadline. It took you longer than four months to stop killing people when you got back to town. And the only reason you did is because Elena finally fell for you. But then every time she dumps you, you kill people again.”
“Thanks for the summary.”
“My point is, I might need longer than four months. I can start with the killing stuff first, teach him he can’t do that, but getting him on his feet might be some work.”
“Easy. Pull the chair out, he’ll figure it out.”
“Damon-”
“I know what you meant. Fine. Six months max. If he’s still (A) killing people, (B) in my house every time I come down for a cup of coffee, or (C) a complete and utter basket-case, by that time, then he’s,” Damon makes the gesture of a throat being slit, “done. No more killing, no more kidnapping, no more terrorizing. Got it?”
“Fine.” You roll your eyes at his insistent face. “Got it.”
“In return, I, nor Bonnie, will kill him unless you take longer or he goes off the rails.”
“You guys do you know you can’t kill him, right? If he dies, so does Jo, so does Liv. Alaric will never speak to you ever again.”
Damon hesitates, but Bonnie already seemed to have an answer to that prepared. “Don’t think I won’t toss him back into 1994, or make a new prison world entirely, if I need to.”
“Bonnie-”
“But if you think you have him under control, you don’t need to worry about that now, do you?”
You sigh, then look over to Kai. He’s still turned towards the window, but you don’t doubt he’s listening. “No, I don’t.” You straighten your posture. “And you won’t need to worry about him, either.”
“Alright, Ms. Confident,” Damon mocks, “guess we have a deal. You have six months to get that weasel somehow adjusted to real life, and we won’t kill him, or throw him in a prison world.”
“Nor will you antagonize him for fun, Damon, which I know you like to do.”
“I do not-”
“Mason Lockwood. John Gilbert. T-”
“Alright! Fine. Bonnie and I will stay out of your way while you work on your little project.”
“I’m going to prove to you he can be good. Just mind your own business while I do it.”
“Fine.”
“Deal?”
“Deal.”
Two minutes later, you gather Kai and hurry out the door.
“Did you hear all that?”
“Yeah. I’m on thin fucking ice.”
“Mhm.” You then grab his arm before he can slip on real ice right outside the boarding house.
The pair gave you a rather strict set of rules to follow, and Kai’s surprised you didn’t give up on him just hearing the terms. He makes sure to thank you on your way to the Grill, where you’re headed for coffee. He hopes he sounds genuine, but still tends to struggle with that stuff sometimes. You, being the loving person you are, give him a smile and a kiss to the cheek in return. You then walk hand-in-hand to the restaurant, where you plan to carefully explain a few places you’ll help him start.
Two coffees and a lava cake later, you catch his attention.
“So, this is a bad example.”
“What do you mean?” He looks up at you, chocolate syrup dripping from the side of his lip.
You reach out to wipe it off, then lick it off your own finger. Kai then wipes off the rest with his napkin, the little that you missed. He smiles at your lack of hesitancy to reach out to him.
“It’s like, five o’clock-ish, and our dinner shouldn’t be dessert-”
“This is your influence. I fed myself properly when I was locked up.”
“Oh really?” You ask with a sarcastic tone.
“Yeah, actually, I did. And in fact, the first time I met you, you were in this very same seat, with Caroline, eating a lava cake.”
You narrow your eyes at him. “Fine.”
He smirks at his win.
“So you cook. You need somewhere to do it.”
“Like?”
“An apartment, maybe?”
“I can just move in with you.”
You bite your lip. You love Kai, but you’ve only been dating for three months. Of course, he’s spent days and slept over before, but it might be too early for the ‘moving in together’ stage. “You could,” you start, “or we could find you an apartment close-by. So you can get a little bit of autonomy, figure things out for yourself. Have a place to get away, if you need.”
“I don’t think I’d need to get away from you,” he chuckles.
“I certainly hope you won’t, but, I don’t know, I think it’ll be good for you to have your own place. Just for a little while.”
“Do you not want to live with me?”
“No, that’s not what I’m saying! I’d love to, but it might be just a little too early for that. And I really think you’d benefit from having your own space. I’ll help pay rent for the first few months. Well, unless you want to go to college? Live in a dorm?”
“At Whitmore?”
“Anywhere.”
“But you live here.”
“Yes.”
“And you’re not in college.”
“No.” You’re not sure where he’s taking this.
“I don’t want to be away from you. I don’t even want to live away from you.”
“You live away from me now.”
“That’s different. At least in the boarding house, there’s people.”
“People who have no qualms about killing you, Kai. What’s this actually about?”
“I don’t want to be alone!” He finally admits. A few people look over from the shout, but you wave them off. “I was alone for eighteen years, I can’t take it anymore!”
“Kai, there are other people in apartments, too.”
“But not in the same room! They’re all in locked doors. I’ve seen plenty of shows. Besides, what if the time away makes you not want to be with me anymore?”
“What?!” You ask, genuinely surprised.
“You’re the only person that cares about me. What if space apart makes you not?”
“Baby, that’s not going to happen. I’m not going to stop loving you just because you move into an apartment.” You lower your voice, recognizing your conversation has an audience of three old men. “We’re apart now,” you repeat, “and I still love you. A couple minutes apart, even less time than our distance now, isn’t going to change that.”
“I still don’t want to be alone, Y/N.”
“Tell you what… we’ll find you one in the same building that I’m in, maybe even the same floor. We’ll be two minutes apart at most. You can come find me at any time; I’ll give you a key.” You reach out to take his hand. “When we’re dating for longer, we can talk about moving in together, but for now, I really want you to try living on your own. Please? We have to prove to Damon and Bon that you can, or you know what they’ll do. Do it for me, so I can keep you safe, okay?”
Kai bites his lip. “Okay. Same floor.”
“I think the woman across the hall is moving out anyway.”
He nods.
“Besides, I don’t want you too far from me, either.” You wink. “Who else is going to cook for me?”
He smiles at your first comment, but at the second, pushes your hand playfully. “See, you admit I can cook.”
“Never said you couldn’t!” You pause. “So that’s a definite ‘no’ on the college thing?”
He nods. “First of all, you wouldn’t be there. Second, I don’t care for the college experience that’s so hyped up in movies. Third, I’ve read thousands of books while being locked up. If I wanted to study one thing really intently, I either already have, or I would’ve.”
“Okay then.” Obviously, his mind is made up. “Sounds good.”
You both eat a few more bites of the cake, then he crinkles his nose. “I know you’re gonna say it sooner or later, so I might as well ask now… are you gonna make me get a job?”
The cynical look on his face makes you want to laugh, but you manage to hold it in. “Yep.”
“Crap.”
“It doesn’t have to be something crazy. Hell, you could work here. Be a bartender or something.”
“Do I have to work with people?”
“I thought you just said you want to be around people?”
“Not stupid people, though. Y’know, like the what-you-call-Karen types that would make me want to wring their neck.”
You chuckle. “Baby, that’s a type of person difficult to avoid. Any job is gonna have its fair share of annoying people. Unless you deliver mail, or something.”
“What’s that require?”
“Valid driver’s license.”
“I have one of those.”
“Valid?”
“Made it myself, but it got me through airport security.”
You sigh. “Can you drive?”
“Yes. Taught myself.”
“Would you pass a test?”
“I don’t know. But I drove BonBon from Mystic Falls to Portland without killing her.”
“Lower your voice when you say stuff like that!” You warn again, waving off a man.
Kai seems to ignore you. “Though half of that trip, we did fly…”
“You flew a plane?”
“Had eighteen years to learn!”
“Okay. Let’s get off this topic. You spend so much time in this grill, it might be a good place to start. As long as you show up, do your best, and don’t,” you lower your own voice, “spike people’s drinks for fun-”
“I would never!” He fakes offense.
“-I think you’d be good.”
The boy takes a sip of his coffee. “Fine. Just for you, I’ll try it.”
“Great! I’ll talk to Matt.”
“Ugh.”
“And don’t mention that you killed the manager, because they never found out who did that.”
“Noted.”
“And he’s besties with the Sheriff.”
“Great. You don’t want me to work here for an extra set of eyes on me, do you?”
“No, ‘course not. You’re my sole responsibility, I don’t want Matt involved at all. I just think you’d be a good bartender.”
“Okay.”
“And you like it here, so you might be more comfortable here.”
“What are the odds you could work here, too?”
“I have a job.”
“You could quit it and work here.”
“Kai…”
“Fine. Talk to Matt.”
“Okay.” You stand up to find the other boy. “Stay here.” You kiss his head as you pass him, then head to the bar.
Kai stares into his coffee while you wait by the bar. He likes the Grill, but doesn’t know about working in it. The customers around him are often annoying, and he doubts his ability to remain patient with them. Still, you made a deal to keep him safe, and if his two little prison world friends are going to uphold their end, the two of you have to keep yours. He sighs, then turns to find you. You’ve caught hold of Matt, but as you seem to explain the situation, he rolls his eyes. Kai bites his lip. He has to make this work, for you, even if he doubts his own ability to fit into the world.
As you turn to look at him, he looks away abruptly. A minute later, you return to your seat.
“How’d it go?”
“He’s gonna give you a chance… on one condition.”
“Which is?”
“If I’ll work here, too.”
The boy’s eyes light up. “Really? I thought you said I should do it myself.”
“Well then scratch that. It’ll be more fun together anyway.”
Kai smiles before growing serious again. “So apartment, job… anything else to cover?”
You’re quiet for a moment. There’s a lot more to cover, but you’ve just tackled two of the biggest factors when it comes to normalcy, and you don’t want to overload the poor boy. So instead of bringing anything else up, you shrug. “We can tackle it later. For now, let’s finish this cake.”
Grateful, he nods. He knows, not only from Bonnie and Damon, that there’s a lot more expected of him than just housing and working. He’s lucky he has someone that understands that. “Okay.”
“Okay,” you reply back.
*****
For the next couple nights, Kai stays with you until you can secure a room for him in your apartment complex. Turns out Ms. Mary White had moved out just recently - wanted to find a complex with fewer stairs - and Kai would be able to move in by the end of the week.
Of course, that process doesn’t come without its own issues. A key piece of information required for renting an apartment is proof of one’s identity. When Kai is asked to present his, he stares blankly at your landlord.
“Uh, I think my father has it in the attic of my childhood home.”
“Well can you call him?”
“He probably burned it,” Kai mutters.
Your landlord’s eyes quickly widen at the same time yours do. Your boyfriend’s blunt honesty is quite fatal for the situation; your landlord does not need to know about his abusive childhood, nor the crimes Kai had committed over twenty years ago. One Google search could quite possibly open a whole can of worms you aren’t ready to contain.
In the following two seconds after that, you dial Caroline’s number.
Luckily, the vampire comes to your aid. She compels the man into forgetting both the conversation, and his need for any proof of identity. She seals his spot in the apartment, and simultaneously, in his new life.
As Caroline then helps the two of you settle in, Kai catches her attention.
“Why did you help me?”
The blonde faces him. “Well… for one, Y/N cares about you. If she sees good in you, and the ability to change, to be better, then I trust her. Two, I do owe you for helping my mom. She’s healing, slowly, ever since you siphoned the vampire’s blood out of her system, and I never fully thanked you for that. And third… I know someone like you. Someone who came to Mystic Falls, and wrecked absolute havoc, but for some reason, he had a soft spot for me. I was used in all of the plans they would make to distract or ‘neutralize’ him, and with time, it worked. He got better. He’s an ally now. A friend, even.”
“So Y/N is like you, and he’s kinda like me. You see that happening? You can see me getting better?”
“Klaus did.”
Kai swallows. It means a lot to hear someone other than Y/N have faith in him. “Thank you.”
“All I’m saying is prove them wrong. Damon’s an ass sometimes. And remember, he was the villain too, a while back.”
“I heard some stories from them back in the prison world.”
“Well they probably didn’t even cover half the stuff he did. Trust me, Damon has no room to judge.”
Kai nods.
“Text me if you guys need help with anything else. Kai, good luck. Treat Y/N well.” With a smile, she’s gone.
“Klaus,” Kai repeats.
“You’re not half as bad as Klaus,” you inform him, “killing-wise, I mean. That thing is a thousand years old and has killed probably five times more people than his age.”
“She said he got better.”
“He did. Still kills, obviously, but he is a friend to us now.”
He nods again, processing the information without replying.
You spend the rest of the evening settling him in with the little stuff he has. Most of his belongings are clothes, and whatever else is either from 1994 or stolen somewhere along the way. You have some extra furniture in your apartment, and earlier that day, bought him a comforter. It’s enough to live, and he seems fine with it. Besides, you both know he’ll be in your apartment most of the time, anyway.
*****
A couple days after that, you start your new jobs at The Grill. You’re only part time, considering you’re already a dedicated employee elsewhere, and Matt’s fine with that as long as you “watch him” at least most of the time. The boy is clearly not excited about the reformed serial killer joining his work team, but at the same time, Matt’s not one to turn down anyone looking for a fresh start.
At first, he keeps Kai in the back, away from people. A smart move while he still adjusts. He’s mostly tasked with filling drink orders and cleaning up, and only after he’s been working in the restaurant environment for a week is he actually allowed to hand people their orders. So far, he’s incident-free, but you can tell Matt is just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
His heart almost stops the day he sees Damon enter on a day he has Kai serving drinks.
Matt rushes to the back, trying to find you to take over before the vampire can saunter over to the bar.
“Bourbon. Neat.” Damon says to no one in particular.
Kai swallows hard at the sound of the man’s voice, but then stands up to pour him the drink. As he passes the glass to him, Damon’s attention turns from the distant game of billiards to the unidentified bartender.
“Oh.” He blinks in surprise. “It’s you.”
“Yep, I am working here now.” Kai enunciates every word, still in disbelief that he does.
“Gotta say I’m shocked. Had any urges to kill anyone yet?”
“No, it’s been mostly tame. There was one lady the other day who was so drunk, she fell out of her chair, but that was more amusing than anything else.”
Damon snorts. Part of him wishes he could have witnessed that, but he’ll be damned if he admits that to Kai. “And her inconsiderate ways didn’t have you tempted to toss a glass at her head? Maybe you are improving.”
Kai bites his tongue. He knows Damon’s just trying to get under his skin, and the bar is too busy for him to react. Besides, one wrong move and the vampire will call off their deal.
Luckily, a heartbeat later, you pop around the corner from the kitchen.
“Hey, how’s it going?”
“Your little pet served a drink.” He takes a sip. “Ten points to Slytherin for getting my order correct.”
“Be nice, Damon. I’ve never seen you attempt to get a job.”
“Why would I need a job? I’m a vampire, if you haven’t forgotten. I don’t need money, and I don’t need to buy food-”
“Because you just eat people? Right. And you do buy food, let me remind you, and drinks, on a daily basis, which requires money. But since your nephew - whom you killed - was rich, you don’t need to work for anything. So no, you don’t need a job, but if you were born into a less rich family, you’d certainly need to, to support your hobbies.”
“Touché.”
You shrug. “I’m just sayin’.”
Damon glares at you, sips the rest down in one gulp, then spins the glass back to Kai. “Refill.”
Knowing you’ve won, you give your boyfriend a kiss to the cheek as he pours another glass. You’re halfway back to the kitchen when Damon clears his throat,
“I could report you for PDA.”
“Try me.”
He doesn’t.
That night, you praise your boyfriend for keeping his cool under the unexpected presence of Damon. Truth be told, you hadn’t even considered the man’s frequency at the restaurant when you spoke out for Kai to work there; you only thought about where he’d be most comfortable. Kai admitted he started pushing buttons, but your interference diffused the situation immediately. You give him a kiss, then snuggle into his chest, legs over his as you sit in his lap. Kai grabs you before you can get too comfortable, turning your cuddling into a make-out session. Unlike his shift at the bar earlier, things escalate pretty quickly.
*****
Weeks pass of coaxing Kai into a normal life. He’s doing well despite the cards handed to him, and you’re sure to tell him how proud you are each night. There have been a few instances where he’s yelled at customers who’ve yelled at him, and then he had to muster up an apology to them. On two occasions, you’ve traded places with him, seeing either Damon or a crowd of college kids approaching the bar. But though he’s had a few mistakes, he’s received compliments, too.
One woman, a regular, and very picky about her cocktails, told him she’s impressed with his ability, especially given his age, and that he makes some of the best drinks she’s had. She always leaves a good tip, and has made sure to tell the manager what she said to him.
Kai only gave a dimpled smile and a polite, “thank you,” and decided not to tell her he’s actually in his forties, and had nothing better to do for eighteen years than craft cocktails.
“See,” you then said to him, “I knew you’d be a good bartender. I didn’t even know you could make cocktails.”
“I couldn’t tell if she was hitting on me by the end of the night,” is all he replies.
You scrunch your eyebrows, but then widen your eyes at the fifty percent tip. “Yeah, maybe just a little.”
*****
As much progress as he’s made, he’s not done yet. Kai’s had about three months of getting on his feet, and now he has to address a big issue that both of you have been avoiding. On a calm night neither of you had work, you decide it’s now or never to bring it up.
So, laying across his lap again, you fiddle with the ring on his finger as a show you’re half-watching runs in the background. Tension builds in your shoulders as you try to form a good question. Within minutes, he can tell something’s up with you.
“What?”
“I have something to say, but you’re not gonna like it.”
“Spill.”
“So… You’ve fought hard against the fate chosen for you by your father. He didn’t think you were capable of leading the coven, so he cast you out. Made you feel like you were less of a person; of a witch, because of the way you were born.”
“Point?”
“Against all odds, you came out on top. You broke down the barriers, literally and physically, and became the leader. Now,” you pause, “you gotta lead.”
Kai swallows as if he hadn’t anticipated this aspect of his choices. That, or he never expected to get this far, and therefore, never thought about any way he’d do it. “I am,” he finally says.
“How?”
“I’m alive, aren’t I?”
“You’re telling me your father never had any specific duties he’d have to perform as leader? No responsibilities? No expectations? Nothing?”
“He had to find a wife and have a set of twins.”
“Kai-”
“I know what you mean,” he sighs. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to lead a coven! What the hell do they do? Do I have to feed them? Give them water?”
“They’re not plants, Kai. Th-”
“I know!” He pauses the TV, but luckily doesn’t try to get off the couch. “But I don’t know how I’m supposed to do that myself. I saw my dad do some of it; he’d go to meetings, and set the standards, and was there to congratulate every stupid baby ever born-”
“Kai,” you warn.
“Sorry. I just… they hate me. How am I supposed to lead them when they hate me, and frankly, I hate them, too.”
“You’re just gonna have to do your best. Don’t do exactly what your father did, but use his leadership as a guideline - whether that's what to do or what to not do, that’s your choice. Try to co-exist with them, and follow whatever rules are absolutely required.”
He bites his cheek. “Will you help me?”
“Of course.” You kiss the side of his face he’s biting to make him let go. “I told you before, I’m always gonna be here for you. If that includes helping you make decisions in regards to your crazy coven, then so be it.”
*****
You’ve never seen anyone from his coven aside from his immediate family, so seeing more of the group that you’d ever anticipated was terrifying, to say the least. The whole plane trip across the country, you’re both having trouble sitting still. As he consumes mini pretzels at an abnormal rate, your tapping foot is probably peeving the passengers around you. Still, he tries his best to prepare you for what den of lions you’re about to face.
“So… meetings are usually just comprised of “elders” and their wives, plus anybody else deemed important enough to attend, or anyone who has something important to share. The elders are the decision makers, and now that includes my dad - elderly, and a past leader.” You snort at his choice of word, but then remember Kai’s actual age and realize the man probably is elderly. “So he’ll certainly be there. Jakob’s had it out for me since day one. I’m assuming he’s still alive, and he’ll be filled with piss and vinegar to see me in person. Leon’s fine. He carries the siphon gene and hasn’t had children because of it. His great uncle is rotting in a prison world somewhere, and I only know that from reading the journals from when I was in ‘94. Patrice is… unimportant,” he says, not knowing what else to say about her.
“Jeez… is anyone in your family actually pleasant?”
“My Aunt Maisie.”
“Oh, so one person.”
He nods. “She’s where Jo got ‘Laughlin’ from. You’d think if she was trying to hide from me, she wouldn’t pick the one name I’d immediately recognize.” He doesn’t say anything else on the matter, but there’s clearly more to it. You don’t push. His childhood isn’t something he wants to relive, and going to this meeting is doing exactly that. Instead, you change the topic.
“So I got us a hotel for the night, and a flight back the next morning. Partly because I know you don’t want to be here, and to be honest, I don’t want to be here, either. And, partly, because when you took off yesterday to prepare for this stupid thing, Matt texted and said Jenny missed your cocktails.”
The comment makes him smile. Even though the grill regular definitely flirts with him most nights, he’s come to enjoy her presence.
“Though I told him you’d need tomorrow night off, too, because this is going to be mentally draining, on top of the plane trip that crosses several time zones. And maybe Saturday, also.”
“Thank you,” he says genuinely, relieved that you understand him in such a way. He leans over to kiss you five seconds before the plane hits turbulence.
*****
On top of the four elders Kai mentioned, his father included, six others were also in attendance. Three were present when he was a kid, though Kai deemed them of lesser importance - they’d rarely speak, and usually only vote - and three had been elected sometime post-1994. He knows them from biannual gatherings and special occasions, but had never really spoken to them. And that reason is, of course, because he was rarely allowed out of his room for those occasions.
When he first enters the room and meets their eyes, small chatter fades to complete silence. Breaths are held as they look the boy up and down. They stare at him, then at you, and a little at your clasped hands. One-by-one, they address him, all by his full name, making his eyes twitch.
Joshua is the last of the elders to greet the new leader, being the most recent to join the council. He looks down disapprovingly before finally spitting a welcome.
“Where’s A-” Joshua turns on his heels and walks away before Kai can ask the question.
His sister then stands before him. “Aunt Maisie passed away in ‘99.”
Kai’s throat dries. “Why are you here?”
“I’m carrying the next set of twins, of course I’d be here.”
You squeeze his hand, trying to comfort him. He bites back a reply, but you can feel the anger coursing through his body.
Nothing important happens in the actual meeting. Jakob, as Kai predicted, shouts most of the time at no one in particular. Everyone knows he’s mad at Joshua, though, and you later learn that he originally wanted to kill the siphon boy at a mere eight years old. This time, Kai squeezes your hand to calm you.
A couple minutes is spent talking about the future of the coven. Patrice points out that although Jo is pregnant, her husband isn’t the leader. Something in her tone hints that the leader’s girlfriend should be the one to be pregnant and to bear the next set, but she’s instantly overridden by everyone shushing her about not wanting to continue the siphon, nor Kai in particular’s, direct bloodline.
In summary, you and Kai flew all the way to Portland just to be annoyed for three hours. That night, you cuddled him on the hotel bed, massaging your hands through his hair. He put up a strong, confident front to prove his ability to lead, but melted the moment you coaxed him into your arms in the privacy of the room. He’s quiet for a long time, and you’re the one that finally breaks the silence.
“I’m proud of you.”
His shoulders relax but tone hardens. “Why?” He wants to believe you, but doubts himself so much that he can’t yet.
“Because you stood up to them by coming here. You’re making an effort to prove your worth to them. Not like you should have to do that, but they’re a bunch of assholes who think you do. But regardless of that, too, it took a lot of strength to face the people who’ve done nothing but cause you pain. You handled both Jo’s and Jakob’s hostility well.”
He exhales, racing mind beginning to ease. “Thank you for coming with me.”
“Of course. Thank you for braving this step and showing them you’re more than capable to lead.”
“They’ll never think I am.”
“That doesn’t matter. They have no say in it; you’re already doing it.”
“For twenty-two years. Until whatever is germinating in my sister’s womb pops out.”
You bite your cheek to keep from laughing. His back rests against your chest, though, and there’s no way he didn’t feel at least a chuckle. “Well then that means we have twenty-two years to figure out something else instead.”
“Pennyroyal tea?”
“No!” You say quickly, unsure if he’s joking or not. “I mean more like, I don’t know, whatever that one woman was saying.”
It takes him a moment, but then his eyes narrow. “You want to have twins?”
“Better me than Jo to have the set that will eventually take over. Even if I’m a couple years behind, they’ll have to accept the current leader’s set over his sister’s, right?”
Kai shrugs, having no idea. It sounds true, given what was hinted before the elder was shushed, but he doesn’t know. Regardless of the answer, he sighs. “You wouldn’t want that kind of tie to my coven.”
“I’m dating you, I kinda already have it.”
“Yeah, but that level of ‘in it’ is something you can’t get out of.”
“I’d do it for you.”
He swears his heart stops. You would marry into his coven and produce a set of in-line twins just for him. Kai is still trying to wrap his head around the fact that you’re dating him, not to mention you’d suffer a coven meeting for him, but to also go that far… just because you love him? He can’t process it.
He wonders… maybe, he misheard you. “Did you say-” When he turns to face you, he realizes you’ve fallen asleep. Your hands remain to hold him, though you’re no longer playing with his hair. He watches your breathing for a moment, still bewildered. At some point, though, his racing mind and tired eyes drive him to exhaustion, and he finally falls asleep in your arms.
*****
Joshua’s presence at your terminal prevented you from never mentioning the conversation, as you were already late to catch your plane. The salt and pepper haired man had a few last, weak words for his son, as he tried to thank him for attending the meeting, but still shame him for winning the merge at the same time. When he made a spiral hand gesture in search of the right thing to say for the fifth time, you snapped your fingers to speed up the process, and finally then did he spit out something half-meaningful. You got on your plane with two minutes to spare and had, for the time being, completely forgotten about your earlier talk.
*****
You’re nearing the fifth month mark in your agreement with Damon and Bonnie, but to be honest, you aren’t worried about it one bit. They have no reason to punish Kai; he’s done nothing but make good progress since the deal was made.
That is, until one night at The Mystic Grill goes horribly wrong.
*****
A rather impatient series of knocks has you opening the door with your eyes rolling.
“What now?” You swing it open, expecting the pizza man. The last time, the man was so terrified of the neighbor’s dog that was barking, he was quick to hand it over and leave, forgetting his tip in the process. “I promise, the dog isn’t getting out. He’s just-”
Instead, Damon stands on the other side. “What dog? I’m not-”
“No.” You try to close it, but he stops it with his foot.
“Wait, Y/N.”
“What do you want?”
“Can’t just check up on a friend?”
“I still have time to work with Kai. And for your information, he’s doing great. We don’t need your commentary.”
“I’m just curious.” He tries to look past your shoulder into the room. “Where is the little weasel?” Unfortunately, he spots him on the couch and offers a wave.
“He has his own place down the hall, we’re just having dinner together. Got a problem with it?”
“Kai Parker has his own apartment? Wow!”
“Shut up, Damon. And why are you really here?”
“Jo told Alaric, who told me, that Kai’s been going to coven meetings lately.”
“Yeah. So?”
“Just seeing if it’s true! So what made him go?”
“He’s the leader; he’s taking up the responsibility. Like a leader does.”
He scoffs. “No influence from you?”
“Of course I’m helping him, but I’m not making decisions for him.”
“Really? This apartment, a job at the grill, being there for his family, that’s not you telling him what to do?”
“If didn’t want to do it, he wouldn’t. I don’t know if you know him, but Kai doesn’t do anything unless he wants to. Sure I’m guiding him, but he has the ultimate say in all of these decisions.”
“Yeah, except if he doesn’t follow the rules, we’re gonna kill him.”
“If you can catch him,” you challenge, “because if Kai decides he doesn’t want this life, I’m prepared to run with him.” You watch Damon’s face before continuing. “But the thing is - he does. He does want to fit in, and he does want his life to have meaning, and he doesn’t want to waste it. Contrary to what you all think, he’s really trying to start something here.” Damon stares at you. “So I’d appreciate it if you’d butt out and go away.”
The man clicks his tongue, but then ultimately leaves. “See you later, Y/N.”
“I’m sorry you had to hear that,” you mutter, joining him on the couch.
“You didn’t mention the guy at the bar.”
“Didn’t seem relevant. Damon makes mistakes, too.”
“What if he finds out?”
“I won’t let him hurt you. You’ve been making such good progress; you’ve been a downright angel most of the time. One bar fight in my defense isn’t going to erase all that.”
“Y/N, I killed him. He’s going to send me back to a prison world. I can’t go back there.”
You take his shoulders gently and pull him down into your lap. “He’s not going to hurt you, Kai. I promise. Rest your little head, okay?”
He nods. “And you’re sure you’ll leave with me if it comes to that?”
After the incident, he had a meltdown, fearing for his life, and almost preparing for Bonnie to burst through the door and send him away. You promised that if she were to come for him, you’d abandon this life and run with him, even if that dissolves the terms of your agreement with the pair. You had then admitted, too, that if Kai decides he doesn’t adapt well to domestic life, even without the incident that had occurred, you’re prepared to leave with him. Damon knowing that little contingency plan probably wasn’t the best, but you doubt the man believes you anyway.
“Of course. I promise.” You assure him.
*****
At nearly midnight, one week later, you hear a banging across the hall. After a moment, you poke your head out and see Damon at your door.
“The fuck do you want?”
“I thought this was your door?”
“I’m with Kai.”
“Ooh, in his apartment?”
“Did you think I was lying?”
He shrugs. “A little.”
“What do you want, Damon?”
He comes up to you with a piece of paper in his hand. He reads, “obituary of forty-two year old Patrick Johnson. Died in a bar fight last week. Split his head against the countertop. No arrests have been made,” he looks up, “happened at the grill.”
“So?”
“Sound familiar?”
“No arrests have been made.”
“Well I didn’t do it. Stefan didn’t do it. It could’ve only been Enzo, or your little “reformed” sociopath in there, and I think we both know who’s to blame.” You roll your eyes. “It’s easier to just tell the truth, sweetheart.”
“So what if it was? What are you gonna do? You’re not invited in; you can’t touch him.”
“Just tell me what happened, Y/N.” He makes a push against the boundary, but it doesn’t budge. “Look, Bonnie hasn’t seen this yet. Just tell me, and I can make it go away.”
“Why would you do that?”
“The goodness of my heart?” You snort. “Come on, Y/N.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“I can go show this to her then,” he points his thumb in the other direction, “because I can promise you who she’ll point the first finger at, and considering Enzo’s been so busy sticking his nose in my brother’s business lately, odds aren’t in your favor.”
You hesitate. “Fine.”
Kai watches from the couch with bated breath. Damon gives him a little wave as he notices him. “Hello, Malachai.” You glare at the man, who then half-apologizes. “Sorry. Explain.”
 “There was a fight one night when we weren't working. Matt wasn’t working either. Kai had nothing to do with starting the fight, but unfortunately, we were sitting right in the middle of it. We got up to leave, but then some man grabbed me and reached down my shirt, and Kai lost his cool.”
“Details, please.”
“He pushed him into the bar but the man kept fighting back. He spit in Kai’s face and made attempts to pull at his clothes. All the while, yelling all this shit about what he wanted to do to me, screaming profanities. Made comments about other women, too, but when he specified that he had been watching me all night and was waiting for Kai to leave, Kai pushed his head down into the countertop. He still fought. After a couple of blows to the counter, we heard a crack. It wasn’t his fault, Damon, don’t hurt him, please.”
The man stares for a moment, then at Kai. “Y’know… I’m surprised you even made it this far. I had no faith in you.”
“Damon-”
“But, I have to say, I’m impressed by your progress. Y/N here wants you to be better, and clearly you love her enough to be better for her.”
“He’s doing it for himself, too, Damon. All he’s ever wanted is to be accepted, and-”
“Save the speech. I admire the progress you’ve made, and I’d honestly hate for all of Y/N’s hard work to go to waste. Now, Bonnie hasn’t seen this yet, and you’ve toned down your menacing almost one hundred percent, and I can agree that this incident isn’t your fault. So, if you promise not to repeat it, and don’t ever speak a word of this to Bonnie-”
“She doesn’t even talk to me anymore.”
“-we don’t have to let her know it happened. I’ll go Liz, clear your name from it. She can put the blame on someone else or claim it was an accident. Just tell me that you won’t let this happen again.”
Now you’re the one staring at Damon, wide-eyed with surprise. “I-I promise.”
Kai nods, agreeing. “I didn’t mean to get in a fight, and I certainly didn’t mean to kill him. I just couldn’t let it go and he wouldn’t stop.”
“I’d do the same if it were Elena. Hell, I’d do it for Y/N, too. What’s one less douchebag in this world?”
The boy half-smiles. “Hey, Damon?”
“What?”
“If Bonnie does find out, or if she has a suspicion, what do we do?”
He shrugs. “Tell her what you told me. He wouldn’t stop. It was an accident. You were protecting Y/N.” Damon looks at you. “I know you two used to be close, so even if she’s mad about it, she’ll understand. I won’t let her do anything in terms of the agreement, I’ll, as Elijah always says,” he says with a smirk, “keep my word. And hey, you might even win brownie points for defending her.”
“Thank you.”
“Just don’t let it happen again. Next time someone starts shit, call me to compel them away, or call Liz.”
“Okay,” you reply.
“Speaking of compulsion,” he adds, “how’d you get this apartment?”
You’re quiet for a moment, then admit, “Caroline helped.” He laughs. “Don’t tell Bonnie.”
Damon puts his hands up as if to surrender. “Not a peep.”
“She said I remind her of someone named Klaus,” Kai offers.
“Ah. Yes! Baby Klaus.”
You shake your head, offended. “Not at all!”
“I’m kidding!”
“You’re a jerk.”
“All kidding, sourpuss. Alright, off to Liz.”
“Thank you again.”
“Hm. Be good.”
The death was ruled an accident the next day.
*****
Six months on the dot, Damon summons you and Bonnie back to the boarding house to rule if Kai can stay, or if Bonnie can boot him back to a prison world. The boy is nervous, despite you promising him he has nothing to fear. If anything, she should be the one anxious, upset she can’t go through with her little plan to trap him again.
The two of you show up right on time, and to your surprise, Elena’s the one to open the door.
“Hi,” she smiles. You two haven’t seen much of each other lately. Bonnie’s been adamant about her friends avoiding both you and The Grill, and many of their nights have been spent at the Scull Bar instead.
“Hi,” you greet her back. Kai gives her a smile, too, but nervousness twitches at the tip of his lips.
“I’ve been seeing the other Parker so much, it’s refreshing to see a different one,” she references Liv and her salty-ass attitude. “Hey, Damon’s said you make a mean cocktail. Put it to the test?”
Damon’s been keeping a secret eye on Kai and reporting everything back to his girlfriend. She wants to believe he’s changed, Caroline, too, and asks the question as a small way to test it. When he gives her a more confident smile and steps inside the house, she takes it as a good sign.
You follow them inside.
“Y/N!” Damon welcomes, arms open wide. He pulls you into an unexpected hug, but then whispers in your ear, “careful, she’s bitter.” The hug suddenly makes sense, and you thank him for the warning before hugging back. “And where’s the little weasel?”
“In the kitchen with Elena. She wanted a cocktail.”
“Ah. I may have told her he’s built up a little fanbase at The Grill. Jenny the Drunk is no longer his biggest tipper.”
“So I’ve heard. All the milfs want my man.”
“Well, he is closer in age to them than you.”
“Shut up.”
“Y/N,” Bonnie’s voice interrupts your banter. She smiles at you from afar, eyes clouded with mixed emotions.
“Hi,” you reply with a similar tone. Not cold, but not exactly warm, either. “How’ve you been?”
“Okay. Been studying a lot. Been helping Jo with… I’ve been busy.”
You nod. “She’s close.”
“Yeah. You know?”
“She stopped coming to meetings.”
“Meetings…?”
“Coven meetings. They’re in Portland, so we have to fly, and she’d always be there, too.”
“You’ve been going to coven meetings?”
“Kai’s the leader, he kinda has to.”
She gulps, as if not expecting him to be so productive in the six month time span. Before she can say anything else, though, Caroline comes out of nowhere with a bright yellow cocktail and a bendy straw.
“Mhm! You have to try these, they’re so good! Who’d think Kai could make such a good tropical drink? I wouldn’t until thirty seconds ago.”
You laugh. “Where’d the bendy straw come from?”
She shrugs. “Found them in the cupboard, probably Damon’s secret stash. Bonnie, you want to try?”
“No.”
“Okay.” She retreats back to the kitchen, promising she’ll bring you one.
“Did he learn that skill at The Grill? Matt taught him?”
“He learned in the prison world. They only had to train him on the more modern drinks.” She doesn’t answer. “He’s really been trying. Not only trying, but doing really well.”
“What about-”
“Guys, come in here! Damon’s summoning you,” Caroline calls.
You share one more glance and then follow her voice to the kitchen.
“Decision-making time,” Damon announces, fighting with his tongue to find his straw.
“Preferably before we get drunk,” his girlfriend agrees.
Bonnie looks less than thrilled. “This agreement was made between Y/N, Damon, and I, and only the three of us will actually be making the decision.”
Her slight attitude makes the room silent.
Caroline’s the first to speak up. “That’s fair, I guess.”
“Thank you, Caroline.” The girl looks back down at her drink. She made input to keep the peace, not to argue on the behalf of one side or the other. “Y/N?”
“Hm?”
“You mentioned Kai’s been going to Gemini meetings. Anything else he’s done?”
“Yeah, well, we started with the apartment, then the job. Felt like The Grill would be a good place since he was a regular, and that he’d be comfortable there. With time, I helped him ease into his coven role, and we go to Portland monthly for meetings. Nothing important ever really happens, they all just argue.”
“You mentioned you’ve seen Jo. She’s around eight months now. That hasn’t been a problem?”
“She wasn’t at the last meeting. Her father said he nor Rick wanted her flying. And no, it hasn’t been a problem.”
“He’s not worried about the next set of twins taking over in twenty years?”
“We’ve discussed it, but no, it’s not a problem.”
“What do you mean ‘discussed it’?”
“That’s actually none of your business, Bonnie. The only people who should be concerned with that are those in the Gemini coven, and considering you’re not, you don’t have the right to ask. And, actually, Jo got pregnant and engaged without even consulting her coven, too, so frankly, that business only belongs to Kai and I.” She blinks, not used to being told off so directly. “We’re not concerned about Jo, nor the twins. Besides, that’s over twenty years away, and not worth worrying over right now.”
“Fine. So he’s adapting well?”
“Yes.”
“Bonnie,” Damon starts, “I know we were skeptical, but I think they’ve proven us wrong-”
“One more thing.” You gulp, knowing exactly where she’s headed. “A couple months ago, I read an article where a local bar fight turned deadly. The man’s death was ruled an accident. Do you know anything about that?”
“That was-”
“And don’t you dare lie to me because we both know-”
“I wasn’t going to lie,” you snap back. “If you’d let me talk, I could explain.”
“Oh, so you do know about it? I want to hear it from him,” she nods to Kai.
Kai’s nervously chewing his lip. When you give him a gentle tilt of your head, he begins to explain. “Okay, yes, that was me. I was defending Y/N. I-”
“We told you no more killing people. The deal’s-”
“Let him explain, Bonnie,” the vampire interrupts.
“You’re defending him?!”
“Just hear him out first.”
Kai looks to Damon, then back at the girl. “The guy got physical with Y/N. He was yelling all this profane shit about her and grabbed at her shirt. When I got in the middle of them, he started hitting at me, and spitting. Every time I tried to shake him off, he’d come back for more. It was a complete accident; I didn’t mean to kill him.”
“So you did kill him.”
“Did you not hear me? I said it was an accident; he was trying to get to Y/N. I wasn’t going to let him touch her.”
“Think about it, Bonnie. If you were there, you would’ve given him a magical headache, and if his brain burst, oh well! The only difference is that Kai didn’t use magic. If anything, it’s better that he didn’t.”
“I’m sorry, I’m still confused. Why are you defending him? And why do you seem to know about this?!”
“I did know about it, okay? And I’m sorry for not telling you, but this is why. He was defending Y/N and I can’t blame him for that. C’mon, Bon. You’ve always been worried about her getting hurt, but he keeps her safe. It’s crazy, even for me to admit, but he does.”
“So you’re okay with him staying? You’re serious?”
“Look, he hasn’t been bothering us. Hasn’t been bothering Jo. This is the only person he’s killed and it was in Y/N’s defense. He makes great cocktails. Let’s just put this whole thing behind us.”
“Bonnie, I’ve missed your friendship these last couple months, and if you give Kai a chance, you’ll see he’s really put in a lot of effort into building a life here.”
She glares at the both of you, then back at him. She even looks to her friends for support. They shrug. “Fine.” She holds up a finger, “but if he falls back into old ways, he’s gone.”
“Thank you, Bon.”
Kai offers his thanks as well, and a second later, you jump at the feeling of his lips on the back of your neck. He apologizes for startling you, but then wraps his arms around your waist. Bonnie watches, both at how unafraid you are of him, and how in love he is with you. She fights the urge to smile, wanting to keep up her cold exterior for a little longer.
After some time, plans are made to get together for real. There’s a lot of work to be done in rekindling your friendship, but you’re on the path to getting there. As for her negative feelings about Kai, she’s just going to have to see his change for herself.
*****
That night, you’re curled in bed together when something suddenly harbors in his mind. He hesitates for a moment, unsure if he wants to bring it up; if you even remember it happening, but then curiosity begins to fester in him.
“Can we talk about something, Y/N?”
“What’s that?”
“I was reminded earlier, when you were talking about Jo to Bonnie… in the hotel room after the first meeting, did you mean it?”
“Mean what?”
“What you said about, like, having twins? That you’d do it for me?”
You backtrack your mind several months to that conversation. It happened a little like this one - you holding him, him being a little weary about the day’s events. Ah. “Yes.”
He perks up. “Yes, you remember it, or yes, you meant it?”
“Both. I do remember that conversation. And yes, I would give you a set of twins if you wanted to keep your bloodline in the leadership.”
“Why?”
“Why?” You repeat his question, glancing at him to see if he’s serious. His face is riddled with confusion - definitely serious. “Because I love you. And they might have doubts about you, but I have faith in your ability to lead, and I believe you’d be a good father, too.”
Now he crinkles his nose. “Why?”
“Well the man who raised you barely did at all. He isolated you, and hurt you, and treated you like crap just because you were born differently. And despite that, and despite a few bumps along the way, you’ve proven you’re capable of deep, gentle love. You prove it to me daily, and you’ve proven patience at your job and with Bonnie, and understanding. You’ve managed to survive despite the circumstances you’ve been given, and all those things are traits I know you would teach a child, because you’d do everything to prevent raising them like your father raised you; to make sure they grow up in a loving environment, like one you should’ve been given. And, you’d teach them how to survive in this coven, because unfortunately, as leader, you’re still tied to them, but you would teach them how to remain strong. And even if we ever happen to have twins and they’d need to merge, you’d still make sure their lives are meaningful before it.”
Kai’s quiet for a while. “If we did that, I wouldn’t want it just for the benefit of the coven. It would be out of my love for you, and if we have a desire to have kids. Not like Jo, where it was an accident, but not like my father, who only needed a leader.”
You kiss his head. “I agree.”
“So you would be okay with that? If we did, at some point?”
“Of course. When the time comes for that, we can talk about it more, but yes.”
“Good, because I’m not ready now.” He relaxes, but then stiffens again. “But wait, Jo… if we’re trying to beat her to this, don’t we need to do it now?”
You choose your next words carefully, unsure if they even hold any meaning. “Well… if I’m understanding it correctly, the leader’s twins would be next in line, regardless if there’s another set in the family. So even if Jo’s are, say, nine or ten, if we have a set, wouldn’t they be next in line?”
“But they don’t want to continue my line because of the siphon gene.”
“Yes, but you’re still the leader, so maybe we can argue that when the time comes. Besides, we can’t do anything about it now. She’s eight months and I’m, obviously, not even in the same playing field.” You rub his arm comfortingly, or at least, hoping it’ll bring him comfort in light of your next few words. “Maybe… okay. First off, I don’t think Jo wants to participate in the merge with her future kids. She’s already tried to escape this family once, I doubt she wants her kids brought back in it. So maybe if we have a set, she’ll just let them take over.”
“But she might merge them just to prevent my line from continuing in leadership.”
“Or, she might welcome kids raised by you and I to lead instead, if we can prove to her we can raise good kids,” you half-joke. He nods. “Because as much animosity as she has towards you, I really don’t think she wants her kids following in coven tradition. Even so, if she does merge hers, we can just follow right up with ours and take it back.” Kai lets out a small chuckle. “But even if hers do take the leadership, I don’t think they’ll try to hurt you. By then, you’ll be settled in, and we’re already far away from your father. Jo trusts me, I think, and we can continue to make peace with her. We’ll be okay. You’ll be safe, I promise. As long as you’re with me-”
“-I’m safe.”
“Exactly.” You kiss him. “And if by somehow there’s a huge falling out and the coven does get violent again,” you shrug, “we’ll just become vampires.”
At first he laughs, but then grows serious as the words hit him. “You’d really do that with me? Transition and live forever just to keep them from killing me?”
“Mhm. I would live a thousand lives as long as I have you with me in all of them.”
