Clark telling B that Black Mercy used to show his deepest desires as a wife and kids but now it just shows Bruce. What was up with that. I think we as a collective seem to have not dwelt on that long enough.

superbat fic idea: Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne are dating. Superman and Batman are teammates.
The first time Clark Kent joins the Wayne's for dinner, Bruce's kids realise that Clark Kent is Superman. Surely if they can immediately figure out Superman's civillian identity, World's Greatest Detective probably already did too. It makes sense, Bruce has always talked about Superman this and Superman that so they knew he definitely has a crush on the hero, and it's good that he seems to get his act together and ask Clark out. If anything, the kids are happy for him. And if Bruce knew Clark is Superman, surely he would've already revealed his own alter ego too. The whole "meet the family" was probably also Bruce's way of testing his kids, to see if their extensive training paid off and could see what is right in front of them.
Except. World's Greatest Detective, Batman, The Dark Knight himself, is in the dark about his boyfriend's superhero life. And Clark Kent, investigative journalist with superpowers and supersenses, has no idea he's dating Batman. But far be it from Bruce's kids to ever question the intelligence of Batman or by extension, Superman.
Cue, the Batkids acting overly familiar with Superman much to Superman's confusion; Bruce's children sharing what is supposed to be an inside joke with Clark when Batman or Superman happens to come up in a conversation even though Clark doesn't look like he gets the joke; Batkids greeting Clark Kent like an old pal when he happens to be in a Gotham crime scene; Bruce's children calling for Superman when they need him to do something, which is usually really mundane like "Superman! Superman! I got my baseball stuck on the roof can you please come and take it for me?", but Superman always does come because these are his boyfriend's kids of course he'd do anything for them even if they don't know that Superman is Clark Kent.
Even though they find it weird that Bruce talks as if Clark and Superman are two different people, they just chalk it up to Bruce being Bruce and refusing to mix Batman's business and Bruce Wayne's. And if Bruce refuses to mix their personal life with their professional life, then there's nothing Clark can do but follow Bruce's steps because Bruce is a control freak and Clark seems to be completely smitten with Bruce. Right? It makes perfect sense.
(And Bruce is perplexed. On one hand, his kids seem to adore Clark whenever the man comes over, or even when he doesn't, they would ask about him— Is he coming over this weekend? Can they visit his parents' farm? But on the other, his kids seem to try and set him up with Superman too, if the jokes and innuendos they make were any indication. Should Bruce talk to his kids? Tell them he's serious with Clark? But shouldn't they already know that he is? Is this their way of showing their dislike for Clark? But what is there not to love about Clark? Bruce ended up brooding a lot these days.)

If it hasn't been done yet, Dick Grayson for the character ask? :)
First Impression: Much like with Kory and Roy my first time seeing Dick was watching the Teen Titans animated show. I loved him in that him and Star were my absolute favorites
Impression now: Dick is my favorite hero of all time and one of my favorite characters in all of media. He's such a great character and I can never get enough of him.
Favorite moment: I think my favorite moment with him has to be in The Judas Contract when he's putting together the Nightwing costume. That feels like the perfect Dick Grayson moment.
Story idea: Like with Kory my story idea would be Dick finally being allowed to marry Kory and having Mar'i and Jake and being the cutest little family.
Relationship: Dick and Kory all the way! My favorite ship ever! And for platonic all his relationships with the Titans are great and his siblings! As well as Clark. (He's a very connected character)
Unpopular Opinion: I wasn't a fan of Dick's behavior during his run in the Outsiders. I completely get that so much awful was going on in his life especially with the lose of Donna, but it doesn't feel like there was enough good moments to balance out the bad. And it makes Dick's behavior come off as largely just to be well a dick. While yes Dick can be a dick when it comes to teams sometimes usually it's for a very good reason and he does make up for the behavior and learn from it. With Outsiders it just felt like Dick was being awful just for the sake of angst. (I do enjoy his moments with Roy though)
Favorite Headcanon: His favorite way to bond with his siblings is through teaching them acrobatics. He's also taught them all part of his parents routine so that they can all be considered "Flying Graysons"
Thank You for the ask! 😃❤️

Please do make some about Danny and Sam.
👍👍part 1 who is Superman
Superman part of the analysis:
Superman as a character is complex, but also really sympathetic when wrote right, rarely he if sadly. He is seen as simple good two shoes, boring and hypocritical for a lot of people.
Can see he imagining a perfect world were superman job is just help in emergency and natural disasters and the rest of time he can be just Clark together with everyone doing the best for everyone. In his words superman is what he can do not who he is.
In my opinion the best of Superman comics are the ones were the point is not a fight but finding different ways to stop the situation and don't cause damage, his whole life is damage control, even his powers make him the perfect first attended.
In a comic Superman and Wonder Woman are talking about how he needs training in fighting and he responded saying that he doesn't want to be good at it, that he feels he it's wrong to do so and he only fights because he knows someone needs to and he is usually the more strong and durable around, read earth.
That makes his deal with Lex Luthor interesting because Lex is in the center of humanity in a way, he's in the vanguard. Tech, politics and even media, Luthor is in the scene soo every time he deals with him, Superman gets throw in the public eye.
On a justice league animation, I think, he says how he can't wear a mask like other heros because he's already suspicious to humanity with his face laid bare and alien origin confirmed, he always on thin ice.
He safety lies on how long he can go unnoticed and insignificant to most people.
Clark can only be a person only when nobody knows that he can be superman. The moment they do he is alien man no legal rights McGee, and he can never lay low or just be again in the best of situations and be a thing to be dissected, and torn a part to study on the worst ones, making braniac gimmick of completely studying and then destroying everything a personal nightmare turned reality.
The more you learn about superman lore the more you stop thinking of him as a space Jesus and start seeing him as some weird guy just trying to make it in America, like he wasn't born there but he sure was raised as one, he saw the best humanity can offer, and he just giving back all the kindness he had received growing up.
Some of my favorite comics shows he growing up, learning himself as and being perceived as weird or creepy and still beeing loved and accepted, in fucking Kansas. Some comics the whole town of Smallville is in on it, like yes that's just the Kent's child, he is a little different and could juggle tractors like they weighted as much as air, but he is so polite and meek and kind, and the Kents, such a nice couple, always helping everyone in town, they always wanted kids, but they weren't able to conceive, they founding and raising Clark is like a fairy tale coming true.
The Kent's used to be hippies, then the high school sweet hearts settled down back were they grow up , in a farm living of the land, found a baby that come to them from the stars, took one look at him and decided that they were his family, the watched a shit ton of sci Fi movies and tried preparing him the best way they could for this world.
A lot of importance is given at his father teaching him, both the alien one teaching him about his home planet, their down fall, all the greed and desire to consume and conquer and and just thinking about what you want now and never about what others will need in the future. How he is the last of then, how he must uphold their culture, their existence and never let their mistakes repeat.
He doesn't know krypton, didn't even know that is what he is from until adulthood in some stories, he was different, but that was it, growing up he just knew what he wasn't.
Now a hologram of a man he doesn't even know appears to him like a Shakespearean ghost telling him he is his actual dead and he is indeed all alone in the universe and said universe is also kinda in his shoulders now, And Clark a kid with no past become a man with a mission, and so much more questions than before.
When Zod appears determined to conquer Earth, Clark has no choice but kill him, is his duty deal with kryptonian affairs and keep Earth save. When he can't find a peaceful solution he does kill, he hates it but he knows that is the option with less death in the end.
He already lost a home once, he will do everything to not lose another, be it fighting and even killing foes to recycling and always using the public transport.
But his other dad also was a big teacher, Jon is a strong man, the good kind of strong, the type to always help when they can and see the good in every one, a hard worker who refuse to take advantage of others, so different to that white collars from big cities that are destroying this world. Someone always looking out for the underdog.
He wants to be a hero that saves people but he doesn't want to fight much less kill.
Oooh yes, I can see what you mean—I’m always enthralled by how much superman is commentary on the immigrant experience, makes sense when you consider the Jewish origins of the comics. I do feel like it’s forgotten about when not thinking very in-depth about the general story/mythos/etc. very interesting!
Honestly he’s kinda relatable.

Superman & Wonder Woman: Being True
Tumblr media
There seems to be this notion that when Superman and Wonder Woman are together, they see themselves as above humans or they lose their humanity is utter bullshit. There has been zero evidence of this in canon comics. Using goofy alternate shit like Injustice doesn’t make the argument either.
It was also said that they bring out uncomfortableness. Why? Because it’s acknowledged that they are different and not conforming to what’s acceptable as the norm? Well so be it. In the real world, no one lives for someone else’s comfort. You can miss me with that selfish entitled bullshit.
There are claims Superman and Wonder Woman needing to be anchored to human love interests to be relatable or lower themselves to be “normal”. No, no, hell, no. Lois Lane and Steve Trevor are not why Clark and Diana are the heroes they are. Clark and Diana were heroes, had their purpose way before them. Lois and Steve aren’t and should never be their motivation to do what’s right and what they were meant to do and be. Clark and Diana are far more “human” than any normal human any damn way. They selflessly make shit ton of sacrifices without any hesitation. What they do as individuals or a couple is on extraordinary levels and there’s nothing wrong with that. Flying across the skies like free birds is such a beautiful thing. Trying to cage these birds, ground and limit them is unnecessary and a shame.
As best friends with unresolved, underlying feelings or the Power Couple, it has always been established, their duty as heroes come first. They have been each other’s moral compasses, written to have complexed conversations about their purposes, the view of the world, open to each other about their deepest feelings etc.
Tumblr media
To reiterate this again, Kal-El is from a different planet entirely. He is an alien. He may look human in appearance but he is not. He was raised to pretend to be normal but he is not normal. Yes, the Kents raised him with good morals and values but that sure as hell does not mean, he had to grow up to reject his heritage, and keep pretending to fit in and the mental gymnastics. Pre-Crisis and New52 Superman understood this assignment. Post crisis Superman, not so much. Superman was once the Champion of the Oppressed. He was to aspire and lead to better. To make a difference in a world of corruption. What happened to that? Now he is just stagnant, stuck in a comfort zone of pretending, romanticizing lies and being unethical at times. Protector of an outdated view and status quo. As well the obnoxious problematic depiction from the beginning of Rebirth of perfect privileged spoon-fed all American family that basically screwed up DC continuity even more so to force it as the “truth” or “real”. Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent should be one in the same. Not choosing one over the other as one is fake/disguise. Ironically, in the animated adaption of “Throne of Atlantis”, Clark himself said to not be “one of them, but to blend in.” This was before the asspulled contrived asinine 180 of his character for Death of Superman adaption.
Tumblr media
Diana of Themyscira is a Princess from a secluded island that was separated from man’s world for its chaotic bullshit. Yet, she wanted to explore the world, learn and teach, bring peace and people together. She celebrates life and love, stands for truth with one self and others. Motivate and fight for equality and the protection of women and children. Majority of Diana’s iterations have been consistent with this attitude. Except rebirth, who had to be thrown into a mental institution and losing herself because spiteful writer’s bias. You really expect me to believe homegirl was living a lie and in some kind of illusion within her mind or whatever for 10 years? LOL no. Although, she is a DemiGoddess, Diana is still very much an earth woman. And I mean that literally if we go with the clay origin.
What I loved about new52 Superman was his motivation to be Superman was the PEOPLE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diana is the Goddess of Truth after all. To hide who you are, what you love and enjoy is a disservice to oneself.
Tumblr media
The two together bring something unique and challenging. They have their similarities and differences that compliment.
Tumblr media
But they don’t change who they are for one or the other. They learn from each other, accept even more of each other, and grow together as a couple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this day and age, we celebrate what makes us stand out and be our unique selves. Superman and Wonder Woman are suppose to THE epitome of this!

Timmy being like a sex toy married/ unmarried couples use to spice up their sex life.
Lois and Clark use Tim as a little cocksleeve, even as Clark's huge dick leaves a little bump in his flat little tummy, Tim stays still and pliant like a good little play thing. Barely flinches even as Lois strokes Clark's dick through Tim and spreads his ass even wider to take more of Clark. They like him when he's more like a silent little doll, both too into control, they both need a pretty little thing who listens to their every word obediently without question.
Bruce and Selina both babying Tim in bed, layering lipstick stained kisses on hickeys, Selina's the one who pumps Tim with a big dick, a fake one as Tim swallows Bruce's very big real one. Bruce likes oral the most, likes cumming down wet warm throats and feeling a tongue swipe at the tip he leaves in the mouth but selina likes grabbing on to hips and tugging them back and forth, pumping them full, making sure her dick is right at their sweetspot just resting before she pulls back and pushes back in again.
Babs gets Tim to ride Dick like a professional, hips going back and forth, round and round, up, down, up, down. Dick just lays down and takes it, not even making a peep, he likes to make his bottoms work for his noise and Babs likes making him noisy. Obviously, with her paralyzed, she can't quite make herself give Dick the fuck of a lifetime, but how about a sweet little timmy with a tight little cunt who can follow orders perfectly even if its his first time? He can play any role, a blushing virgin, hesitant with his every rock, an experienced slut who gropes his own tits and tugs at pink nipples until they turn red. He can play a selfish little prick who'd use Dick like he was the sextoy, and usually babs only does that whenever she got pissed at him. Tim was a sweetheart who did her so many favors, and really, as Tim leans down to pick up her fallen pen she can't quite stop herself from groping the small boy and dragging him to her lap to be her plaything.
Jason and Roy never really fuck unless Tim was involved. They tug at his legs, fuck both of Tim's holes raw until it was as red as Tim's swollen eyes. They cover his body in black bruises. Hickeys, hand prints, pinches, anything. Tim bruises too easily, it's always so easy to know if Tim's been fucked that week. They like keeping Tim's oversized shirt on, sometimes they make him wear skirts. Roy's particular favorite outfit are mismatched thigh highs and jason's oversized shirt on Tim, and Jason's favorite outfit is Tim in a cute frilly pink apron and nothing else underneath. Maybe a big bow for his head too, a neat little present for him.
Cassie and Kon felt a little awkward with it at first, having Tim be used as a fucktoy but then they make Tim cum without even touching his clit, listen to breathy moans get louder, firmer, whinier, feel the way their human shudders as Cassie holds him still to take all of Kon's length, not even flinching every time Kon bottoms out. Tim's tongue is magical with a cunt, no wonder he's popular with the girls. They orchestrate a few more fights sometimes, just to get Tim to offer up his body again.
Only Damian and Jon really have a problem with it. They want Tim to be their third, to whisk him away to a place no other hero will find them and nurture and love him their, listen to Tim's wants and needs and treat him like a perfect fragile glass doll.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!!
tim being brought in to spice up their sex lives!!!!! he's like a baby when a couple gets pregnant to try and save the marriage.
things in the relationship is strained, tensions are rising, being a hero takes away so much time, the couples are fighting with each other but when tim is there??
they bond over how much they love fucking him together, how much they love using him as a proxy and tim....
tim is so sweet and so obedient and he takes cocks battering into his cunt so well. he's just a wonderful little treasure. such a pretty little body that lets out wonderful sounds.
i love the idea that tim is like a really loved toy that they keep in the box for when things are going off the rails. and tim? tim loves getting fucked so deeply and stroked and kissed. sometimes they buy him breakfast the morning after and, clark especially, will sheepishly apologize to him if they were too rough or too harsh with him.
damian and jon though?
they can't and don't want to think of tim as a thing. as something they just...use when they're at their most vulnerable and intimate and then toss away. they don't want tim to be their thing they want him to be an active participant. they want to hear what he wants to do, how he wants to be fucked. he's so pretty and soft and he comes them sometimes still pulsing with raw bruises because todd and his companion are brutes who love to exploit tim's perfect body.
sometimes jon and damian don't cum at all when they spend time with tim. though it's rare on nights when clothes do come off. when they invite tim to spend the night it's usually spent cooking and eating dinner together, watching movies and sleepily cuddling together.
when they do have sex they're always tender and careful. murmuring loving words to tim as they stroke his limbs until he's shivering. one of them gently eats tim's cunt, licking into his pretty little pussy until he's squirming. while the other kisses tim, running their tongue along his fat bottom lip until they're swallowing all of tim's whines and moans.
"tell us beloved," damian whispers to his as he rubs tim's soaking red clit. "tell us how you want us to touch you-"
damian and jon beg tim to be only theirs, to let them love him. they're very convinving too.
jon sobs as he cums inside tim, saying how much he loves tim, how much he loves that he lets them make love to him.
that's the term they always use 'make love'. they don't want to fuck tim, that's what they tell him, they want to make love to him.
by the time dick and barbara or bruce and selina are going through another rough part in their marriage, they call tim up again, thinking they just need a nice hard fuck to get back to themselves.
only to be answered by damian and jon who grunt at them and say that tim is busy and if they could kindly not solicit their lover that would be swell.
they hang up and jason, roy, lois, and clark are stuck just standing their staring at their phones.
they're sad of course. their favorite toy's time is being occupied and they try different methods to 'entice' him back to their side. or they ask tim for just one more night, just one last good fuck and he'll go home. or they ask damian and jon if they can just have tim for the night, they really miss him...
only they get chased off by both of them.
damian and jon going back inside and snuggling against tim who purrs as they play with his hair and kiss his cheek before settling back in and watching an old movie.

So S&L had a little (okay a lot of) sophomore slump going on this season. And I personally think it was because of four main things, so I thought I'd post about it weeks after the show aired because why not?
Ally and the main villain:
Okay so part of my issue with this was the character design of Ally. Were they going for a maternal look? Because it looked too Granny Goodness to be Parasite.
Either way, they seemed to mirror the real life cult with Allison Mack but that stopped being the case once they decided to make fictional Ally's beliefs factually correct and she became the main supervillain of the season. So it didn't really make any statements, and it didn't really need to be there. I don't think they needed to make a statement about Mack or any of her crimes but once they brought in the main villain, a cult leader named Alison, they needed to do something unless they wanted it to fall flat.
IMO, she should already be parasite when we meet her. She feeds on her followers and leaves them in a state of euphoria at the end of the process. While Lois is chasing down Lucy/dealing with the fallout of Lucy accusing her of cutting corners, Chrissy can meet a woman who escaped the cult, she's sick and doctors are unable to diagnose it but she's certain it was from Ally's powers. Chrissy believes this woman and is moved by her story, this makes her more determined to help Lois with Ally. They didn't need to fight as much as they did, and working together sooner and quicker would have worked out better. Ally can still have the pendant plot, she wants to merge with her bizarro self because her family legend says if she does merge she will no longer need to feed on people. Her other self will cure her, now she's a bit more sympathetic too since all she wants is to stop being a parasite. In the Bizarro backstory we can find out the bizarro Ally wants the powers of her alternate self because she is the opposite. Her energy builds up inside her and she needs to purge it, traditionally she has done this by forcing her energy into others. This is how she gives her followers powers, it's not perfect and often times sending her energy into people kills them. Once she merges Ally can take control of both power sets and give power to her people and take it from anyone she deems unworthy. She can still want her trusted followers to merge, since they can become more powerful through the merge as well. We still get Bizarro Jon, Lana, and Tal. I never thought I would say this, but Tal was the best part of the season and watching his bizarro half die was heartbreaking. Ally can still kill him after a betrayal and Lucy can still betray Superman. We just needed more time with Lucy and they needed more scenes of Lucy and Ally together, just Ally and her followers in general.
2. The secret conversations:
Season 2 is too soon to be having the secret conversation. There is a reason the everyone knows Oliver is GA was a low point for Arrow. There is a reason Supergirl waited until the last ten minutes of the show to do the reveal and spent several episodes talking about why no one has any right to the secret with the Lena subplot. There is a reason everyone in Central City pretends they don't know Barry is the Flash. Say what you want about those particular plots, none of them happened at the start of s2. Not only are secret centered plots boring but the Superhero identity is a staple of the genre so every show eventually gets there. The MCU has had success with the secret identity not being a thing because everyone knowing the secret identities of the heroes is a way to avoid secret subplots, one that works in some scenarios but not others. Having a whole side plot with the boys pressuring Clark into telling people his secret was tedious, and it made the boys come off as naive and dumb. And it is too soon for the boys to be burdened by the secret. They have know for like a year, they should not be this obsessed with telling everyone else. Jordan and Jon don't know the struggles their father has had for his entire life.
Lana finding out the secret was fine I guess... I wish they had Clark fly in front of her and she just looked at him and said, "yea I know", and chose to keep his secret because it's his secret and not hers. The boys (mostly Jordan) could have learned something from that too.
However thats not the direction the show decided to go with. Her getting angry at Lois did come off as a ex jealous of the new girl. But Lois isn't the new girl, she is his wife of like a million years. So it made Lana seem a little desperate.
Slight digression, but what was Clana? The Clark flashback implies she moved on while they were still young but here it feels like he's the one that got away to her. And when he's having the sex talk with the boys they imply he's only ever been with Lois and he doesn't correct them. So the logical conclusion seems to be they liked each other maybe had a little high school fling but never were more serious since Clark left and then Lana moved on by the time he came back. IT also implies they had no closure. I don't care if they ever tell us exactly what Clana was but I do think the writers need to know exactly what Clana was and I don't think they currently do.
Anyway, I think if she didn't already know (the writers were cowards for not doing this), they should have had her ask Clark for time to process, tell Lois she needed space because she felt like she told them everything but they kept so much from her and her family/daughter was put in danger multiple times because of the events of last season. Her conversation with Jordan was so mean they needed to call it out in the same episode lol, but honestly Jordan needed the wake up call that telling people doesn't make things better so I didn't mind it. I also didn't mind her being angry at Lois for seeking out a friendship or whatever, we just needed to get payoff for that. She had a better resolution with Clark which makes sense since he is the friend who was lying to her, but if she was more mad at Lois and the resolution was with Clark it goes back to the Lana is not over Clark conversation and I was not here for that angle.
The writers this season seemed to forget the Superman secret is Clark's secret. His family can have an opinion because it effects them, but at the end of the day it is his choice to tell people or to not tell people. The way the plot played out it seemed telling Lana was because the boys wanted him to and Lois telling Chrissy was something Lois wanted to do. I did like Chrissy's reaction, it was cute her and watching Clois dance like THAT'S SUPERMAN!! was adorable! But it wasn't necessary.
Also Lana, Sarah, and Chrissy all found out too close to each other! Three characters went from not knowing to knowing in record time. Why? They needed to be spaced out better, it really did ruin the pacing of the season and will likely continue to mess with the pacing.
3. Sidelining John Henry/Natalie for the Cushing family:
Natalie is such an interesting character. Her developing a familial relationship with Clark after his dopple killed her mom would have been such a good plot. Instead we get her being rightfully distrustful in the start and then coming around offscreen and eventually helping save the day. But like it felt rushed and cheap. I think when they eventually had Jon and Clark fight, she should have been someone he talked to. Someone who gets the feeling of powerlessness around Superman.
The Cushing family did not need two cheating plots. And sure Lana being lied to and thinking 'you never loved me' directly leads to her yelling that at Clark when he revealed her secret. But like we didn't need that angst either. They invested so much time in establishing Kyle as a jerk at the start of last season and gave him a mini arc where he ended the season ready to become a better person. Why did they spend all that time just to undo it all here? For a bad cheating plot? I kinda think he should have died last season and Lana's arc should have been about grieving him while raising kids. But if he did survive why not either have him be a supportive husband trying to wrestle with his alcoholism and have the alcoholism be the thing that might upset the mayoral campaign? Or if they absolutely need to do the cheating plot because they want to leave the door open for Lana/John and Lana/Tal just write Kyle out. Why is he still taking so much screen time!?
Sarah's coming out plot was bad, the cheating trope was harmful, and they did nothing with it. Others with more knowledge and experience can and have talked about this in more detail, my only thought is it would have been so much better if they did the Jordan Sarah breakup and then had her explore her sexuality and meet Audrey? Aubrey? at school. She can still choose to be with Jordan by the end but we should have seen her figure things out on screen and while she was single.
4. The Kent family drama, and the Clark/Jon stuff:
My personal big issue with this season, IMO it brought down the entire season. Firstly Jon and Jordan switched plots this season. Jordan should have had the dad will only care about me if I have powers thing, since the pilot implied pre powers Clark and Jon were closer. Clark should start training Jordan and Jordan loves the bonding but he realizes his dad used to play football with Jon and spend all this time with Jon, he thinks the only reason Clark is interested in doing this stuff with him is because he has powers. And Jon should have had the secret training sessions with General Lane. Then when Clark visits bizarro world and sees a version of Jon that became a hero and hates him and a version of Jordan he neglected and hates him it should be a wake up call!!!
I could write multiple essays detailing the many reasons the drug plot was bad. But the one I want to talk about is it dragged on too long and made Clois look stupid. I mean they keep complaining Jon has no friends, but like he went out drinking with the football guys and seemed to be friends with a few of them so... But regardless if he has no friends the only people he could be covering for are his girlfriend and Jordan. And clearly Jordan isn't dealing X-K... And I don't blame Jon for most of it. Clearly he is having a hard time and Clois just ignored him!? I mean Lois had a whole month to bond with and assure the boys everything would work out. And Jon straight up tells Clark he feels like he has no future and Clark leaves to go fly with Jordan. Wtf. I think if they had taken a beat with the X-K and let it develop all season and then resolved it next season that might have worked a little better, but here we got Jon learning about it, trying it, deciding it wasn't for him, and getting caught all happen in record time and then Clois was just dumb for so long about where he was getting the drugs/who he was covering for. By the end of the season the Kent family feels broken, and yet they didn't really get it together by the end. The writers just pretended it was all good. And had the family moment with the ocean fortress, but it was just them all happy the world didn't end. Once that feeling passes the problems will be back. I guess we just needed a moment with Clark and Jon that showed they were going to work on their issues. And no Clark being like Jon should meet holo grandma and get technology does not count. I guess the season could have been done without the drug plot, it would have been so much better without the drug plot, but really the drug plot was just for angst. Unneeded angst.
Overall 'unneeded angst' is exactly how I would describe the whole season. A little joy will go a long way for a show like Superman and Lois and I hope s3 realizes that. Anyway this was really long so if you made it all the way to the end thanks :).

When James Cameron stepped into Ridley Scott’s space-horror boots to direct the sequel to the brilliant Alien, he didn’t try to ape the sickening, paranoid, slow creep of the original. The killer scene: Ripley straps into a Power Loader suit to destroy the alien queen. Yippie-ki-ay, indeed.- Tom HuddlestonĬast: Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton But of course, the blue-ribbon winner in all this has to be Bruce Willis, who crashed from nowhere (well, from TV’s Moonlighting) onto the world’s stage, thanks to a combination of antiheroic self-mockery, battered but unbowed machismo and one very grubby T-shirt. The script is crammed with humor and invention, and whoever came up with the idea of setting it at Christmas deserves a big medal. John McTiernan’s direction pulls no punches, and there are sequences here-like the oft-imitated, never-bettered swinging-through-a-window-on-a-firehose moment-that achieve something close to visual poetry. That said, even the highest of concepts will only work if all the elements are right, and Die Hard is a textbook case of everything falling into place. It’s little accident that, in the wake of the film’s success, clones sprouted up like toadstools almost overnight, from Die Hard on a boat ( Under Siege) to Die Hard on a bus ( Speed) and this year’s Die Hard on a musical instrument ( Grand Piano). Admittedly, there are precedents- Assault on Precinct 13 must have been an on-set favorite-but no one had told this tale with such streamlined precision before.

Their only hope is a man locked in with them, yet free to roam, a lone hero who must pick off the bad guys one by one, arcade-game–style, until he reaches the Big Boss. The story is so ingenious, it’s incredible no one had thought of it before: A group of terrorists invades a state-of-the-art skyscraper and takes the inhabitants hostage. We want speed and intensity, wit and wisecracks, cartoon violence and things going boom. We don’t want to see ourselves reflected, we don’t want understanding or honesty or intellectual insight. If cinema is the perfect escapist medium-and until someone invents a virtual-reality device that works, it will be-then action movies are its purest expression, the best way we know of for humanity to shake itself loose from the trappings of humdrum reality and take to the ether. It isn’t exactly what pseuds would call High Art.Īll of which is precisely the point. It doesn’t offer much insight into the human condition (though the image of Bruce Willis walking on broken glass could be taken as a poignant metaphor for life’s little brutalities). But does Die Hard really fit the bill? It doesn’t have anything to say about the state of the world. The killer scene: Alan Rickman’s final tumble: iconic, nostalgic, slightly-shoddy-effects–based glory. 🥋 The 25 best martial arts movies of all-timeĬast: Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Bonnie Bedeliaīest quote: “Now I have a machine gun. 🌊 33 great disaster movies that’ll have you running for cover Written by Eddy Frankel, Eddy Frankel, Joshua Rothkopf, Trevor Johnston, Ashley Clark, Grady Hendrix, Tom Huddleston, Keith Uhlich, Dave Calhoun, Phil de Semlyen, Dave Calhoun & Matthew Singer Just be warned that your hand may experience some soreness from all the high-fiving you’re likely to do while watching. Light that fuse, clip that wire and batten down the hatches – these are the most pulse-pounding, heart-racing, edge of your seat thrill rides ever put to film. Time Out ’s critics have weighed in, too. To put together this definitive list of the greatest action movies ever made, we polled over 50 experts in the field, from Die Hard director John McTiernan to the actual folks in the line of fire, such as Machete himself, Danny Trejo. Shoot, some even have character development. Others might dropkick you right in the heart. (To be fair, Bay does have some bangers, including one on this list.) But action flicks needn’t be dumb or epic or even particularly loud to succeed.

The problem is that the genre has been co-opted by the likes of Michael Bay and a stream of hacks who think that big explosions are the only thing a movie needs. After all, film is meant to make you feel something, and the best action movies will quite literally make your chest rumble – usually because something big just exploded. Art school snobs and hardcore cineastes may turn their noses in public, but the truth is, deep down, everyone loves a good action movie.

perfection is where you and I meet
Tim was going to propose soon, he could feel it. They’d been dating for almost 5 years, best friends longer than that. They’d gone through all the big couple fights and make-ups, had the serious, emotional talks that made you feel raw but more connected in the end. Kon had unofficially moved into Tim’s place - unofficial mostly because he refused to admit or even acknowledge that he lived in Gotham City. They’d even talked about this next big step, shyly and quietly over late night dinners.
All that was left was the question and Kon was ready with his answer.
He’d been ready for the last 7 months or so.
He knew how much of a perfectionist Rob could be. Kon had walked in enough times to see Tim clicking off websites or tucking things into his jacket to know he’d been planning the perfect proposal for a while now. Tim, he wasn’t always good with the romance aspect of a relationship but he made up for it by being infuriatingly considerate. Kon knew that whatever Tim was up to to, it was going to be amazing and memorable and he’d probably cry a lot. That said, he does not have the crazy amount of patience that Tim wore as easily as his cape.
Cassie and Bart digging their elbows into his side asking when Tim was gonna make an honest clone of him. Clark’s awkward but well meaning questions about the future. Even Commissioner Gordon asked if ‘us kids were married yet’ when they dropped off some robbers they’d found on their way back from a take out run.  He’d actually stormed out during a proposal scene during a movie night last month. Tim, who’d been asleep since about 6 minutes into the movie, missed it and their friends’ sympathetic looks. Kon may be starting to go a little crazy with anticipation.
He’d even bought a ring for Tim when the big moment came. It was platinum, the most durable ring out there to add a little extra zing to his man’s already impressive punches. The ring sat in his pockets, day and night, waiting for when he could finally present it to the love of his life. It’s not like Kon didn’t like what they had now. But husband had a nice ring to it and he wanted to get on with using it. The waiting was driving him mad but Tim would always be worth it.
But finally, finally, he thinks the big moment was coming up.
Tim had casually asked over breakfast a few days back if he’d be available for a date night on Saturday. Date nights usually were spur of the moment to accommodate both of their busy schedules so the several days notice put him on alert. Tim had been unusually affectionate in the days following, stroking Conner’s hand over meals, extra kisses at seemingly random times. Steph had even confided with glee in her eyes that Tim had sneakily handed off all his day and night work off to other Bats to leave him completely free Saturday. It was finally happening and Conner felt like a sun was burning in his chest.
Saturday morning came and he woke to Tim's head pillowed on his shoulder They made breakfast together and had a lovely day doing pretty much nothing. Nothing could ruin this perfect day.
“Orange Alert,” they heard announced over their comms as they cuddled on the couch, Tim’s hand lazily playing with the hair on the nape of Conner’s neck. His hands froze at the words. “All available heroes please respond.”
“We’re not available,” Kon squeaked desperately looking at Tim’s wide eyed gaze. “We have plans, they can handle it without us.”
“Multiple coordinated prison breakouts in Star City, Central City, Metropolis, Gotham City and Midway City. Requesting back-up immediately, Superman, Flash and Green Lantern out of commission, I repeat-” Conner watched their date night fizzle out in Tim’s eyes as disappointment gave way to determination.
“We’d better get dressed,” Tim said heavily as he pulled his arm from around Kon’s shoulders. He was gone before Kon could say anything. Typical Tim, couldn’t talk about his feelings just bottled them up and moved on. But Kon wasn’t built like that, he was a guy of action and emotion. And if he had to wait another 7 months for Tim to propose then he was going to crack, shave his head and start calling himself Lex Luthor Jr.
He kinda spaced out for most of getting ready, flying to the site and the debrief, too upset to concentrate. Red Robin was as disciplined as ever but Kon didn’t miss Nightwing’s sympathetic back pat or how it caused Tim’s shoulder’s to drop just a hitch. Kon would totally admit to punching bad guys harder than he needed to vent his frustrations. It didn’t help much. He knew what he was signing up for when he first put on the S, to putting others before his own desires.
But dammit, after all they’d been through, didn’t he and Tim deserve something?
“You doing okay, Babe?” Kon panted as he found himself back to back with Red about an hour into the fight. The small fry had been thinned out and it was mostly the big fish left in the game. Freeze, Ivy, Clayface, probably more that Conner couldn’t see. This was gonna take hours. It was starting to get dark out, he and Tim should be somewhere stupidly romantic as they planned out the rest of their life together.
“It’s okay, Conner,” Red sighed as if reading his mind in his creepy, scary Bat way. “There will be other nights.” And all of Kon’s carefully piled patience collapsed like a stack of Kryptonite bricks.
“It doesn’t matter that there are other nights, Rob. This was supposed to be our night,” he growled, turning a bit so he could see the side of Tim’s head. “We give so much to this goddamn job that we deserve one night to ourselves.”
“That’s not how it works and you know it,” Red huffed back, irritated. “We can’t exactly send out our schedule book to supervillains asking for days off.”
“Yeah well maybe we should,” Kon said louder, turning to face his boyfriend. There were now eyes on them but he couldn’t care less right now. “Maybe we should learn to prioritize the things and the people in our life before we all go insane and end up in Arkham.”
“Super-” Tim hissed, turning to him.
“Maybe, just maybe, instead of letting villains and your type A personality tell you when and where to propose you should just take any moment and make it perfect,” Kon said before he could really stop himself. Amped up on adrenaline, frustration and absolute adoration for the sweaty, gaping man in front of him; he dug aggressively into his suit pocket.
“Oh my god is he doing it now?” He heard Batgirl squeal off to the side
“Is this really the appropriate place?” John Stewart grumbled only to be shushed by an extremely gleeful Nightwing.
“What the fecking hell are you -” Captain Boomerang started before Bart, who’d been zipping back and forth between the battles, knocked him out cold with a punch.
“Shut up man, do you know how long we’ve been waiting for this?” Bart demanded before cupping his mouth and shouting. “Get him Supes! Bag that bird!” Kon’s slippery fingers grasped on the ring as he became aware that the entire battle had skidded to a stop around them. Every hero and villain, all the civilians and reporters with their cameras and microphones were focused on him and Tim. Tim was still staring at him in embarrassment and anger and sheer stupefaction.
“You better not be doing what I think you’re doing,” he said in a low voice. A warning but also stunned disbelief. For the first time, Conner had stumped a Bat. He pulled out the ring and knelt on one knee in the middle of a broken battlefield. The screeches and gasps around were nothing compared to the thudding of Tim’s heart.
“Rob,” Kon said quietly. “There is no such thing as a perfect moment. This,” he gestured around them, “is always gonna get in the way. But you, just being with you makes these moments perfect. I don’t know how much time we have left, doing what we do, there’s always a chance of something going wrong.” Tim winced at that but Kon had to get this off his chest or else he’d explode. He reached for Tim’s dust and blood covered glove. “And every one of those moments I have left, I want to be with you. You’re my best friend, my partner, the love of my life so will you take me as your clone husband and make more perfect moments with me?”
“I cannot believe you,” Tim whispered in a hush after a few quiet moments. He pulled his hand somewhat aggressively out of Conner’s grasp. Kon’s breath stuttered and the hand holding the ring started to tremble slightly. This punch to the heart hit harder than Superboy Prime.
“I had it all planned out,” Tim continued, annoyed as he fiddled with his left glove. “We were going to go to a drive in movie in your hometown and have a bunch of junk food. I was going to suggest a flight and present the ring high above the Earth.” Tim had finally worked off his glove and presented his bare hand to Kon who blinked at it, now his turn to be stunned silent. “I had a speech planned,” Tim said so sharply his teeth clicked. “I’d practiced.”
“I want nothing more than to hear your speech,” Conner giggled, half mad with excitement as he took Tim’s hand and slipped on the ring. “Are you free tonight?”
“I’ll have to ask my fiancée,” Tim said back with the smallest smile, like he did when he was a shy little Robin. “But I think I can make time.” Unable to contain himself any longer, Kon leapt to his feet and pulled Tim in.
The kiss was as sweet and warm as always but with an extra flavor to it now, maybe it was just from the fighting but it tasted like forever. Tim’s hand, the one with Conner’s ring on it, cupped his face and deepened the kiss. The crowd around them went wild but this wasn’t about them. This was about him and Tim. This was their moment, not planned or perfect but theirs.
“Aw hell,” he heard Harley sigh, throwing down her mallet. “I can’t fight after such a beautiful display. Come on Pammy, let’s go back to our cells and cuddle. It’s grilled cheese and tomato soup night, your favorite.”
“Oh all right, Mrs. Isley,” Ivy said, pulling Harley close. “But only for for the soup.” A whole slew of villains threw down their weapons at that, a miracle in a job that offered very few. Before they knew it, everything was practically done.
“What else do you need us to do, Batdaddy-o Conner chirped to Batman because he was so high on love and happiness that his brain had essentially shut down. Red Hood let out something between a gasp and a cough off to the side.
“I believe you’ve done enough for the day,” Bats said sternly. “The fighting is slowing down elsewhere. You and Red Robin are relieved for the rest of the evening.” His eyes narrowed behind the mask. “You two will be expected at the house tomorrow. We have things to discuss.”
“You hear that, honey?” Conner asked, sweeping Red off his feet. “We have the whole night before your dad tears me to shreds. Let’s make the most of it, how about a flight? I can hear your speech, I’ve been waiting awhile for it.”
“As long as you fly away from the wi-fi,” Rob grumbled through his smile as he wrapped his arms around Kon’s neck. “The villain breakout is second to your big act. SuperRobin is trending all over the world. No one is going to take anything I say seriously now that they’ve seen me get engaged on live TV.”
“We’ll make it work,” Kon grinned, kissing his cheek. “We always do because from here on out, it’s you and me.”

✨  you were walking in with Damian, blabbering about something that he could have cared less about as you approached Jon. the two of them had to head over to the Batcave to talk about a mission that went sideways a few days ago and you were too bored to not tag along with them.
✨  while you weren’t much of an active hero, you did get called in from time to time to help the Titans or Jon when they needed it, so it wasn’t a secret to you about their identities. Jon more than Damian was more opened to tell you who he actually was and you found comfort in the idea that he trusted you that much baggage.
✨  “what are we gonna do later? i’m not really in the mood to be going home. everyone has been getting on my nerves lately.” you asked the pair. Damian rolled his eyes as Jon smiled, “you can watch movies back at my place! i’m sure my dad wont mind,” he said with a small blush.
✨  Damian wanted to groan, feeling the strong sense to cringe at Jon’s foolish attempt to ask you out on a date. you agreed, hugging the taller boy as he fell stiff at the touch. Damian groaned but this time out loud. you gave him a look before dismissing him.
✨  all of you arrived to the cave, greeting Alfred before heading down to the cage. you had offered to make yourself and the boys coffee while they talked in the cave. Alfred was making small conversation about how your day was and if Damian was doing alright in school. while he knew Damian was smart, he knew in social settings, he wasn’t the greatest.
✨  finally, you finished making all of their coffee’s and put them on a tray before heading downstairs. you heard noise from the top of the stairs and being careful with the coffee, you zoomed downstairs to try and figure out what was going on. you set the coffee on the small table outside of the cave and opened the door to see Jon and Damian basically fighting someone around the cave.
✨  you looked at the girl, who looked no older than nineteen, trying to save her own ass as her eyes gleamed red. once you caught her attention, she immediately ran to you, “MOM! THANK GOD!” she yelled. Jon without hesitation ran to protect you but the girl beat him to you and engulfed you in a hug.
✨  “first off, I’m not your mother and I have no idea who the hell you are,” you screamed as Jon and Damian took her off you. Damian restrained her as you and Jon looked at her, “who are you and who/what sent you here,” Damian threatened as he took the pocket knife he had in his sock and put it against her throat.
✨  “I’m Lois Kent, daughter of ( your name ) and Jon Kent,” you looked at Jon before you started laughing hysterically. you tried to calm yourself down as Lois continued to explain herself, “I’m from years into the future. I was sent back in an accident by Uncle Damian and my dad,” she yelled, trying to get Damian to release her.
✨  Jon, who had yet to speak word, bent down to her height, “why should we believe you? you very well could have known our identities and made up a stories to ambush us,” Jon said. “run a DNA test if you’re so concerned,” she replied. you gave Damian and Jon a look as Damian asked you to grab her while he called his dad and even Clark to come down to the cave.
✨  “we can start on the DNA before our dads get here but until then, you’ll be restrained to the chair until we get the results,” Damian practically spat as he grabbed ropes and cords before sitting her down on Tim’s computer chair, “you have a lot of nerve making up such a story,” Jon whispered to her as she groaned, “you make up some crazy story pretending to be our kid and even giving yourself my mothers name to make it even more believable.”
✨  she sighed, “I’m not lying! I was working on a project with Uncle Damian and you when Uncle Damian accidentally opened up a portal that sucked me back into the past,” she explained, “you named me after grandma because you always said you’d name your first daughter after her.” Jon remained silent, knowing what shew as saying was true. Jon, years ago, made a pact that he would name his daughter, if he had the opportunity to have one, to name her after his mom.
✨  “and why should we believe you? outside of the DNA test, how can you prove that,” you said walking up to the both of them. she sighed, happy that she was no longer getting lectured by Jon, “I know that you asked mom out after a movie date. the song both of you claim to be ‘your song’ is ‘Follow You’ by Imagine Dragons and that you used to sing it to me as a baby,” she confessed.
✨  you immediately looked to Jon and stood in disbelief. both you and Jon loved that song and always sang it whenever he picked you up to hang out. “dad always tells me that he always thought you were too good for him and that you deserved to be with someone else but you always end up smacking him in the back of the head when he says that. plus, you always said that you love his small accent,” she continued.
✨  before you say anything, Damian grabbed three small tubes and asked all of you to spit in them. Damian watched the three of you spit in the tubes and in the back of his mind, he could start to see the similarities in Lois’ facial features and they looked eerily reminiscent to you and Jon combined.
✨  “our dads should be here soon but until then, don’t make a move!” he yelled before moving back to lab and computers. you sat next to Lois as Jon continued to question her, “how old are you?” you asked her, “seventeen. you guys always say i look older than i am. say, since I’m in the past, how old are you guys?” she asked. you looked to Jon, “we’re also seventeen but we’re not saying anything else,” you stated.
✨  finally, Clark and Bruce walked in, pure panic written on their faces. Clark and Bruce saw the three of you sitting down together and almost immediately, Clark could sense she was a Kent. given, she looked like both you and Jon, she did have some facial features that looked like Lois.
✨  “have you ran a test? Bruce asked Damian. he nodded as he showed the three tubes on the table as the spit was being ran through the system, “she claims that her name is Lois. named after his mom,” Damian murmured. Clark felt the pang in his chest. if the DNA test rang positive that she was your kid, he felt proud that Jon named his daughter after his mom.
✨  you got up from your chair and grabbed the coffees from the table outside, “here, the coffee was supposed to be Damian’s but I’m sure you could use some,” you offered it as you held the cup in front of her with a straw sticking out. Lois smiled, taking a sip, “it’s nice seeing both of you so young. dad always says both of you had me so young but he doesn’t regret a single thing,” you gave her a look, “how young do you claim we had you?” you asked.
✨  Lois laughed, “well, if you’re seventeen now, expect me to be here when you’re both nineteen.” Jon let out a belting laugh as you stood in your chair mortified at the answer, “nineteen? that’s two years from now!” you whispered to yourself, “I mean, both of you are already married by then,” she continued to say.
✨  Jon now stood mortified what she was saying. he hadn’t even confessed his feelings to you yet and two years from now, both of you were married with a kid on the way? as you both were talking to her, the results pinged up on the screen, alerting Bruce, Clark, and Damian.
✨  the three of them looked at the screen in surprise. she was telling you the truth. the DNA matched closest to you and Jon. Clark couldn’t even lie to himself, seeing his feature granddaughter made him emotional. she looked happy, healthy, and beautiful. he was glad Jon had chosen you to be his wife. he always thought you were the perfect fit for his son.
✨  “the results are in,” Damian screamed to the three of you. you looked to Jon in nervousness, “you’re the parents,” Damian said, now a bit more seriously. Jon looked at you as you had tears in your eyes, “you’re our first daughter?” you whispered to her as Lois now had watery eyes and nodded in agreement.
✨  Clark walked over and smiled at the three of you as Lois perked up, “grandpa!” she yelled as you started to untie her. as soon as she was let free, she engulfed the three of you and smiled, “it’s weird seeing all three of you so...young!” she repeated. you smiled, “say, that’s Uncle Damian right?” she asked. you nodded as she released all of you.
✨  “GODFATHER!” she yelled, running to Damian. Damian flinched as he heard the name. Bruce couldn’t help but start laughing. he never imagined Damian getting such a title.....like ever. “do you think we’ll have to try and send her back or do you think future us will do that?” Jon asked his dad. “I’m sure all of you in the future are going to figure that out. until then, I guess enjoy time with your daughter?”
✨  you walked over to Lois, “well, we should get you something to eat. Bruce mentioned that Alfred finished cooking dinner so I guess as parents, you need to eat,” Lois agreed as she walked over to Jon, “weird that they have kids,” Damian said, “don’t forget you’re her godfather,” Bruce mentioned. Clark laughed at the banter as they followed you three.
✨  over the course of dinner, Lois kept mentioning small parts of her childhood and how all of you turned out. Damian had a kid but had yet to marry the woman with whom he had them with. Bruce as well had found someone down the line to marry and had one more kid after Damian.
✨  after the dinner, all of you landed in the living room, trying to figure out a way to get Lois back home but within those few minutes, the same portal that brought Lois into the past reappeared. you and Jon stood up immediately, grabbing Lois and putting her behind the two of you.
✨  three figures stepped out. the future you, Jon, and Damian. all of you were much older than you were now but as soon as your future self saw Lois, you ran to her and engulfed her with a sigh of relief, “I swear I’m never gonna let you do any experiments with Damian and your dad,” you whispered as future Jon and Damian stared at their younger selves.
✨  “hey dad,” future Damian and Jon said nervously. the two of them shook their heads in disbelief as they gave them slight head nods before leaving before it got any weirder. Jon looked to his younger self, “have you asked her out yet?” he asked. young Jon shook his head no, “don’t worry kid, you will. I’m sure she told you already but don’t worry, life gets so much better with her,” older Jon said as he looked to you and Lois.
✨  your older version looked to you and smiled, “the movie date both of you have is one you won’t ever forget. trust me, Lois and Jon are the best thing to happen to us. just don’t be scared when you get surprises in a few years,” you joked as you took Jon and Lois’ hand.
✨  Damian had been staring down his older self down, probably judging and figuring out ways he could improve himself now so he wouldn’t look like that in the future. Lois gave you and Jon a hug, “I’ll miss you guys but like I said, we’ll see each other soon,” she whispered as you nodded and tightened the hug.
✨  the four of them walked back into the portal as Damian sat down on the couch with relief, “well, don’t yall have that movie night to get too?” Damian said grabbing the remote and insinuating to get out of his house. you flipped him the middle finger as you grabbed your backpack, “you still wanna?” you asked Jon.
✨  Jon nodded, “of course, we can pick up dinner on the way,” Jon said as he stared at you with heart eyes. now that he saw the future that was ahead of him, he knew this ‘movie night’ he asked you on was a major point in both of your lives and he didn’t want to miss it.
✨  after telling Damian goodbye, Jon grabbed your hand and kissed the back of it, “horror? or comedy?” he asked softly, “horror!” you said back excitedly.

Adult SFF edition
High/Epic Fantasy
The Lies of Locke Lamora: heist fantasy following a band of misfits! It has morally gray characters, fun banter but heartwrenching moments and a pretty complex plot. It’s a classic to say “if you liked Six of Crows and want to try adult SFF try this” and it’s probably true.
Kushiel’s Dart: a political fantasy tome loosely inspired by Europe in the Renaissance. Pretty heavy on romance and erotica (with BDSM elements) as it follows a courtesan navigating the political scene. It has an amazing female villain.
A Darker Shade of Magic: probably the easiest way to approach adult fantasy. It has multiple Londons and a pretty unique magic system and concept, plus a crossdressing thief, knives and great banter.
The Poppy War: grimdark fantasy (TW: abuse, self harm, rape, drug abuse), inspired by Chinese history. It’s adult, but follows younger MCs and the unique blend of different historical periods/inspirations makes it extremely interesting. The characters are extremely fucked up in the best possible way, plus the use of shamanism is awesome.
The Sword of Kaigen: if you liked The Poppy War you could like this one. The Sword of Kaigen is an Asian-inspired militaristic fantasy, with elemental magic, a badass housewife dealing with her past and hiding a sword in her kitchen’s floor. It has interesting and nuanced family dynamics and a great reflection on propaganda and the use of narratives.
The Priory of the Orange Tree: high fantasy, featuring dragons, a F/F romance and pretty complex world building. The author reuses typical fantasy tropes and roles in a fresh way. Very readable in spite of its length.
Empire of Sand: inspired by Mughal India, this one focuses on culture and religion and has great slow burn romance (TW: abuse, slavery). It’s pretty slow paced, but the payoff is great. Also a good "YA crossover”.
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms: first book in a companion novel trilogy, following a young woman who finds herself at the center of a vicious political struggle, as she’s suddenly become the heir to the throne.
Black Sun: first book in a new series by Rebecca Roanhorse, inspired by pre-Columbian societies and cultures. It mainly focuses on religious and political conflicts. TW for abuse, mild body horror and suicide (not very graphic). Nice inclusion of lgbt rep across the whole cast + one of the main characters is blind. Great world building!
Historical Fantasy
The Night Circus: perfect transition from YA to Adult for a reader, The Night Circus is a gorgeous historical fantasy romance. The author’s writing is amazing, the descriptions and the subtlety of the main characters’ relationship are to die for.
The City of Brass: political/historical fantasy tome featuring Middle Eastern mythology. It follows younger MCs (honestly another series that could be a good way to approach adult SFF) and has great character growth throughout the series. The first book has some more trope-y elements, but the payoff is worth it.
The Golem and The Djinni: historical fantasy (if you loved The Night Circus you could like this one), following two mythical creatures as they navigate New York in 1899. Slow burn romance, rich descriptions, fascinating combination of Jewish and Syrian folklore.
Gods of Jade and Shadow: a fantasy bildungsroman set in Mexico during the Jazz age. Another great way to approach adult SFF as it follows a young girl on a life changing adventure. It features Mayan mythology and a god slowly becoming human.
The Ghost Bride: set in Malaya in 1893, it follows the daughter of a ruined man as she receives the proposal to become a ghost bride. Lovely setting, rich in culture and extremely atmospheric.
The Bear and The Nightingale: a coming of age story inspired by Russian folklore. Another great way to start reading adult SFF: it’s very atmospheric and fairy tale-like. Also frost demons are better than men.
Queen of the Conquered: first book in a fantasy duology(?) set in an alternate version of the Caribbean at the time of Scandinavian colonisation. It follows Sigourney, a biracial woman (her mother was a slave, freed by her father) and the only islander who is allowed to own and use kraft and therefore has a position of privilege, which she constantly abuses, while telling herself she’s doing it for the islanders’ benefit. The book is hard to read, because the MC is no hero and her POV can be quite challenging to get through, but if you’re up for it I’d totally recommend this. (TW: slavery, abuse, death).
The Lions of Al-Rassan: this one has minimal fantasy elements, much like other Kay books, as it reads more like an alternate history. Using Moorish Spain as a template, it deals with the conflict between Jews, Muslims and Christians. Much like Under Heaven and most of his historical fantasy it shows common people being swept up in dramatic events.
Urban Fantasy
The Divine Cities trilogy: starting with City of Stairs, it follows a female diplomat and spymaster(!!). The whole trilogy features an interesting discussion about godhood, religion, fanatism, politics, without ever being boring or preachy. It has complex and rich world building and a pretty compelling mystery.
Foundryside: heist fantasy following a thief as she’s hired to steal a powerful artifact that may change magical technology as she knows it. Also, slow burn F/F romance.
Jade City:  a wuxia inspired, gangster urban fantasy. Great family dynamics, very interesting political and economical subplots.
One for My Enemy: sort of a modern Romeo and Juliet, but set in New York, starring two magical gangster families. The female characters are to die for.
Trail of Lightning: inspired by Native mythology and the idea of subsequent worlds. It has a kickass MC and a good mix of original elements and typical UF tropes. You could like this if you liked the Kate Daniels series.
American Gods: a classic of the genre, pretty much brilliant in how it reuses old mythology in a modern setting.
Retellings
Spinning Silver: a very loose retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, with a gorgeous atmosphere. It mainly follows female characters from different social and economical backgrounds and reuses the original tale to challenge the antisemitic ideas around the role of the moneylander.
The Queens of Innis Lear: fantasy retelling of King Lear, very atmospheric and gorgeously written. Slow paced, but very satisfying build up, lots of backstabbing and miscommunication. (heads up though, one of the MCs is coded as aroace and I found the rep pretty bad on that. The book does feature casual bisexual rep though, which was great)
Lady Hotspur: genderbent retelling of Henry IV, set in the same world as The Queens of Innis Lear. Lesbian and bisexual rep. Heavy on political subplots, features ambitious women growing into their roles.
Deathless: sort of a retelling of Koschei the Deathless set in the first half of the 20th century. Brilliant reuse of Russian folklore to weave together politics and history. It does have pretty brutal descriptions of war, morally gray characters, unhealthy relationships and overall a lot of mindfuckery.
Space Opera
A Memory Called Empire: space opera inspired by the Mexica and middle period Byzantium. It focuses on topics like colonialism and the power of narratives and language. It has one of the best descriptions of what it’s like to live in between spaces I’ve ever read. Also very interesting political intrigue and has a slow burn F/F romance (and a poly relationship recalled through flashbacks).
Ninefox Gambit: a Korean-inspired space opera with a magic system based on math. It’s honestly quite convoluted and difficult to follow, but it also features some of the best political intrigue I’ve ever read. Plenty of lying, backstabbing and mind games. It also features lesbian and bisexual rep and an aroace side character (TW: mass shooting, sexual assault).
The Light Brigade: militaristic space opera set in a not-so-defined future in which corporations rule Earth and space in general. The book follows a newly enlisted soldier as they go through gruelling training and experience the side effects of being broken down into atoms to travel at the speed of light. It’s a heavy book, featuring raw descriptions of war, and quite difficult to follow (non-linear timelines...) but it’s also an amazing critique of capitalism and political propaganda (TW: death, mass shooting).
Gideon the Ninth: pretty much lesbian necromancers in space. Very loose world building, but a fun mystery full of banter. Can be quite confusing in the beginning, but a relatively easy and fun way to approach science fiction.
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet: character driven space opera featuring a found family journeying through space. A fun read, that also deals with topics such as sexuality and race. Quite easy to go through, as the world building and plot aren’t particularly complex themselves. Also features a F/F romance.
Science Fiction-Fantasy that I can’t fit anywhere else
Vicious: college roommates put themselves through near-death experiences to obtain super powers, only everything goes wrong. Follows a great band of misfits (and pretty much everyone is morally gray).
Middlegame: a brilliant and complex tapestry of alternate timelines, following telepathically connected twins trying to escape the alchemist that wants to use them to obtain godhood (TW: attempted suicide).
Piranesi: the long awaited return of Susanna Clarke, Piranesi is an odd, mysterious book set in a house with infinite rooms and endless corridors, apparently inhabited by only two people.
Bonus Novella recs: novellas are amazing and don’t sleep on them!
The Empress of Salt and Fortune: an Asian-inspired fantasy novella, it gives a voice to people usually silenced by history. It follows a cleric (non binary rep) as they chronicle the story of the late empress, retold through objects that she used in her life. It focuses on bonds between women and the power that lies in being unnoticed.
The Black God’s Drums: an urban fantasy novella, based on Orisha mythology and set in an alternate, sort of steampunk, New Orleans.
The Haunting of Tram Car 015: alternate steampunk Cairo populated by supernatural entities. It has a compelling mystery, starring a great lead.
This Is How You Lose the Time War: epistolary set during a time-travel war, F/F romance and gorgeous prose.
The Citadel of Weeping Pearls: a novella set in the Xuya universe (a series of novellas/short stories set in a timeline where Asia became dominant, and where the space age has empires of Vietnamese and Chinese inspiration), but can be read as a standalone. It’s a space opera featuring a disappeared citadel and the complex relationship between the empress and her daughter as war threatens her empire.
To Be Taught, If Fortunate: an incredibly heartwarming and yet meaningful novella about research and the meaning of it. It’s the tale of 4 astronauts on a crowdfunded mission to explore space, to observe and report without conquering. It’s written in lovely prose and is very casual in its lgbt rep.
The Deep: very good novella set in an underwater society built by the descendants of African slave women that were tossed overboard. It’s not an easy read at all, as it deals with trauma, both personal and generational ones.
Bonus short story collections recs
A Cathedral of Myth and Bone: 16 short stories featuring myth, legend and faith, that mainly focus on women reclaiming their agency.
The Paper Menageries and Other Stories: features plenty of different fantasy and science fiction subgenres. The Paper Menagerie in particular is an extremely moving tale.
Conservation of Shadows: science fiction-fantasy short stories that focus on topics like colonisation and the role of art and language.
Graphic Novel
Monstress: series set in an alt 1900s matriarchal Asia, following a teenage girl who survived a war and shares a connection with a monster that’s slowly transforming her. (TW: slavery, death).

The Farthest Shore by manic_intent
“Peaceful night, sir?” Alfred slid a mug of coffee onto the desk.
“Seems like it. Couple of small-time burglaries. Tipped off the cops.”
“Ah,” Alfred smiled faintly. “Gone were the days when you’d go haring off after the smallest lawbreaker, I see.”
“What’s the point,” Bruce yawned, picking up the cup. “There was a cop car close by, and lately the police are more likely to shoot at me than at a perp.”
“That might perhaps have something to do with your preferred modus operandi of terrifying even your allies, Master Bruce.”

Bruce goes to the funeral as himself for a reason. Not so he can make friends with Mrs. Kent; that part's an accident. And definitely not so he can posthumously fall for Clark Kent, which is an even bigger accident. But it's fine. He can handle it.

Clark Kent vs. The Wayne Family Values by quidhitch

Sooo… Superman and the Authority?
magnus-king123 asked: Your thoughts on Superman & the authority Give it to me...lol
Anonymous asked: Seeing Bezos take his little trip into space the same day Morrison puts out a Superman comic that touches on how far we’ve fallen from the days when we dreamed of utopian futures where everyone explored the stars was a big gut punch. Not used to Superman being topical in that way.
Anonymous asked: What'd you think of Superman and the Authority#1?
This is far beyond what I can fit in the normal weekly reviews, so taking this as my notes on the first six pages, with this and this as my major lead-in thoughts:
* Janin's such a perfect fit for Morrison - the scale, the power, the facial expressions selling the character work, the screwing around with the panel formatting as necessary to sell the effect, the numinous sense of things going on larger than you can fully perceive amidst the beauty and chaos. It's a shame he wasn't around 25 years ago to draw JLA, but I'll take him going with Morrison onto other future projects.
* His intro action sequence is such a great demonstration of why Black actually does have something to offer, and also how he's such a dumbass desperately needing Superman to save him from himself.
* While Jordie Bellaire didn't legit go with an entirely monochromatic palate the way early previews suggested, it's still an effect frequently and excellently deployed here. And glad to see Steve Wands carry into this from Blackstars since there's such an obvious carryover from its work with Superman.
* "Gentlemen. Ladies. Others." Great both because of the obvious - hey, Superman's nodding at me! - and because it's a phrasing that reinforces that this take on him (and let's be real Morrison) is old as hell.
* I'm mostly past caring about whether this is an alt-Earth Superman until it becomes indisputable one way or another, this and Action both rule so what does it really matter? But while there are still a couple signs in play suggesting some kind of division (the Action Comics #1036 cover, Midnighter up to time-travel shenanigans) the "lost in time" quote clearly thrown in after the fact to explain how he could have met Kennedy outside of 5G that wouldn't be necessary for an Elseworlds, the assorted gestures towards Superman's current status quo, the Kingdom Come symbol appearing in Action, and that Morrison would have had to completely rewrite the ending if this wasn't supposed to be 'the' version of Clark Kent going forward as was the intent when they first planned it all say to me that no, no fooling around, this is our guy going forward one way or another.
* Janin and Bellaire making the first version of the crystal Fortress ever that actually looks as cool as you want it to.
Tumblr media
Anonymous asked: I like that Superman and The Authority is basically the anti-All-Star; instead of the laid back, immortal Superman who is supercharged, we have a stressed, ageing Superman whose tremendous powers are fading. The former will always be there to save us, but the latter is running out of time and needs to pull off a Hail Mary. Also, he mentions in his monologue to Black that he was "lost in time" when he met JFK, so maybe he is the main continuity Clark. Or he's the t-shirt Supes from Sideways.
* You're absolutely right - the power reversal is obvious and the ticking clock in play seemingly isn't for his own survival but everyone around him as he wakes up and realizes all the old icons grew complacent with the gains they'd made and he's not leaving behind the world he meant to. Both, however, are built on the idea of preparing the world to not need them anymore - it'll still have a Superman in his son, but that'll only work because of the others he empowers and inspires. The question is what happens to Clark if he's not going to live in the sun for 83000 years.
* Clark's 'exercise' here does more to sell me on the idea of Old Man Superman as a cool idea than however many decades of Earth 2 stuff.
* Intergang being noted alongside Darkseid and Doomsday speaks to how much Kirby informed Morrison's conception of Superman.
* This isn't exactly the most progressive in its disability politics but at least it makes clear Black's being a piece of shit about it.
* It's startling how much Clark can get away with saying stuff in here you'd never expect to come out of Superman's mouth. "I made an executive decision" "Privacy, really...?" "You have nowhere to go, Black. Nothing to live for." "There are few people in my life who I instinctively and viscerally dislike, and you've always been one of them." It only works because there's zero aggression behind it, he's just past the point of niceties and being totally frank while making clear none of these assessments preclude that he cares and is going to unconditionally do the right thing every time. He is absolutely, per Morrison, humanity's dad picking us up when we're too drunk to drive ourselves home.
Tumblr media
* The story doesn't put a big flashing light over it, but it's not even a little bit subtle having the material threat of the issue be a ticking timebomb left by the carelessness and hubris of generations past.
* Manchester keeps trying to poke the bear and prove his hot takes about Superman and it's just not working. The front he put up under Kelley is gone after decades of defeats, and as Morrison understands what actually conceptually works about him as a rival to Superman underneath the aging nerd paranoia he's exposed as what he absolutely would be in 2021: a dude with a horrific terminal case of Twitter brainworms. I was PANICKED when I heard there was an 'offensive term' joke in this, I was braced for Morrison at their well-meaning worst, but it's such a goddamn perfect encapsulation of a very specific breed of Twitter leftist who uses their politics first and foremost as a cudgel and justification to label their abrasive, judgmental shittiness as self-righteousness (plus it's a killer payoff to a joke from way back in his original appearance). Cannot believe they pulled that off when they're so very, very open about basically not knowing how the internet works.
* @charlottefinn: Manchester Black using his telekinetic powers to force someone he hates to fave a problematic tweet so that he can screenshot it and start a dogpile
@intergalactic-zoo: “Once they cancel Bibbo, Superman won’t be *anyone’s* fav’rit anymore!”
* Friend noted this issue had to be fully the conversation because the whole premise stands on the house of cards of these two somehow working together, and with three 'silent' inset panels the creative team pulls off that turning point.
* So much of this feels on the surface like Morrison bringing back the All-Star vibes with Clark, but when he drops a "That's all you got?" in a brawl you realize what's underlining that bluntness and confidence in the face of failure is that deep down this is still the Action guy too. This dude ain't gonna get wrecked in his Fortress while the other guy chuckles about him being A SOFT WEE SCIENTIST'S SON!
* Bringing up Jor-El made me realize that Morrison already spelled out that this is the final threat to Superman, what he faces at the end of the road:
Tumblr media
"Now it's your turn, Superman."
* A l'il Superman 2000/All-Star reference with the Phantom Zone map!
Tumblr media
* There's so much intertextuality going on here even by Morrison standards - Change or Die with the old hero putting together a team of morally nebulous folks out to 'fix' everything, Flex Mentallo with the muscleman trying to redeem the punk, Doomsday Clock with the fate of the world hinging on whether Superman can get through to a meta stand-in for an idea of 'modern' comics cynicism, DKR and New Frontier and Kingdom Come and Multiversity and Seven Soldiers and What's So Funny and All-Star and Action and the last 5 years of monthly Superman comics and Authority and probably Jupiter's Legacy and Tom Strong - but none of that's needed. You could go in with the baseline pop cultural understanding of the character and not care about any of the inside baseball shit and get that this is a story about a leader of a generation that let down the people they made all their grand promises to as inertia and day-to-day demands and complacency let him be satisfied with the accomplishments they'd made long ago, looking at a new era and seeing the ways its own activists are dropping the ball. The only thing that fundamentally matters in a "you have to accept you're reading a superhero story" sense is that because he's Superman he's willing to own up to it and listen to people who might know better about some things and try to set things right while he and those who'll take his place still have a chance. And yes, the oldster looking back on their legacy with a skeptical eye and hoping for better from the next generation, hoping most of all that their little heir apparent can fulfill the promise inside of him instead of being a provocating little shitkicker, is obviously also autobiographical.
* The overlaying Kennedy reprisal is such a great visual of a sudden intrusive thought.
* The Kryptonite secret is the obvious "This is going to matter!" moment, but "He lied about his son" is a bit that doesn't connect to anything going on right now so maybe that's important here too? More significantly, the Justice League can't actually be the villains here but that Ultra-Humanite's crew are in an Earth-orbiting satellite makes pretty clear what's up.
* I've said before that between Superman, OMAC, and a New Gods-affiliated speedster this was going to use all of Morrison's favorite things. King Arthur playing a role isn't exactly dissuading me.
* Love the idea that all the antiheroes have their own community in the same way as the capes and tights crew. They definitely all privately think the rest are posers though and that they alone are Garth Ennis Punisher in a mob of Garth Ennis Wolverines.
* Manchester's fallen so far he's gone from trying to convince Superman to kill to convince him to dunk on people for their bad takes and Clark just doesn't get it. Official prediction of dialogue for upcoming issues:
"According to these bloody Fortress scans, the only thing that can restore your powers is an unfiltered hit of dopamine. Don't worry, Doctor Black has a few ideas."
"Hmm. Maybe I'll plant a nice tree?"
"...fuck you."
* Ok I already talked about how great the Fortress looks in here but LOVE this library.
* A pair of pages this seems like the right spot to discuss from Black's original appearance that underlines both his and Superman's inadequacies up to this point:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Responding to the problem of "the government and penal system are hopelessly corrupt" neither of them has any actual notion of what to do about it in spite of their respective posturing beyond how to handle individual outside actors - each is in their own way every bit as small-minded and reactionary as the other. Clark's coming around though, and he's holding out hope for the other guy.
* Superman: Have a lovely mineral water :) proper hydration is important :)
Manchester Black: *Is a dude who can get so mad he vomits and passes out. At water.*
* That last page is the one to beat for the year, and does more to put over the idea of this as an Authority book than that Midnighter and Apollo are literally going to show up. It also feels like Morrison tacitly acknowledging all the ways the premise could go or at least be received wrong - from Superman saying 'enough is enough' to who he's bringing into the fold to go about it - in the most beautifully on-the-nose fashion imaginable. Maybe they'll save us all! Or maybe they'll drown us in their vomit.

Dc unpopular (i think) opinions with 0 explanation or debate:
Let’s start off strong
Wonder Woman would beat Superman in a fight. Would the fight be easy? No. Would she win? Absolutely. She has literally killed a god, I think she could handle an alien who is allergic to a rock
Wonder Woman deserves a girlfriend
WW84 would have been so much better if Diana had fallen in love with Barbara then Steve came back (a different way) and that was the love conflict
Superman while powerful is not as powerful as people make him out to be
Kyle Rayner on the other hand
Kyle should stay the white lantern
Kyle as white lantern is one of the most powerful heroes in dc
Kyle’s main team up should be with Jason. Their dynamic is great and they could work well together without compromising the integrity of the characters
Speaking of
What DC did to Roy Harper is criminal
Kaldur’ahm is one of the best characters DC has put out in a minute and they underuse the crap out of him
Stephanie brown is an amazing character and they underuse the crap out of her
Tim Drake is one of the most complex characters DC has created
DC needs to stop putting the batfamily in the center of their universe. They need to start pushing other heroes
Wally west is also up there with Kyle as one of the most powerful heroes
Barbara Gordon should have ended up with Ted Kord
Dick has yet to meet his forever partner.
Dick only dates women who could kill him
Dick only has a thing for red heads because of an unresolved crush on Wally
If I had to pick a love interest out of the ones he already has Dick’s only option is Kory.
Barbara deserves better
Barbara deserves a love interest where Barbara isn’t turned into development for said love interest
Barbara should have stayed in the wheel chair
Barbara and Kory would and should be best friends
The only reason DC under uses Conner Kent is because they don’t know how to use him with out making Superman the bad guy
Superman is allowed to be some ones bad guy without said person being delusional and/or insane
Conner deserves for Clark and lex to be present in his life
Lex Luthor isn’t a bad dad
Cassandra Cain deserves to be Batman
Batman’s main reason for not killing is because he believes in rehabilitation more than anything
Batman is one of the kindest heroes in DC
Batman puts being a father above being Batman
Y’all ready for this one
Zach Snyder knows NOTHING about Batman and Superman did horribly with their characterization
Dick should retire from being a hero but stay somewhat in the game as kind of like a life line like a ‘phone a friend’ but STRICTLY for teen heroes
Out of all the heroes Teen heroes trust Batman the most exculding their respective mentors
DC constantly gives Jason Dicks leftovers and it needs to stop
That’s why I prefer Bizarro and Artemis as the outlaws instead of Roy and Kory
However the perfect outlaw team would be Jason, Kyle, and Rose
John deserves to be the leagues first lantern
Hal and Barry have one of, if not the best, friendship in DC
The next two are Barbra and Dinah
And Booster and Beetle
Booster deserves the world
Jon getting aged up could have been a really good and emotional storyline but the writer obviously didn’t know how to handle the situation and it turned out really bad and extremely out of character
Heroes in Crisis could have been a really good and emotional storyline but the writer obviously didn’t know how to handle the situation and it turned out really bad and extremely out of character
Hal Jordan is not straight
This one doesn’t have to do with comics but I need to get it off my chest
In the young justice cartoon miss Martian and superboy should NOT have gotten back together
What she did to him is inexcusable
If you know anything about superboy you know that messing with his mind is a big no no
I’m not saying she should have never been forgiven
But putting them back in a relationship was a mistake
A big one

I have always thought a Kara/Legion ending made perfect sense, regardless of whether Karamel are defined as romantic on the show before it happens.
Superhero shows that get a choice about the fact that they are ending want some sort of big, transformative thing to happen at the end. Whether it is Clark getting married on Smallville or Oliver dying and being resurrected on Arrow.
Kara literally stepping into a new world/future/cause fulfills that.
It also serves as a nod to various comic book incarnations of the character.
It is a better ending than death, because the message is that she is still out there fighting, saving people. It stresses her importance, she is called to the future while being more than just retaining the status quo. Her stepping into the future is literally a threshold moment.
It’s an appealing scenario for writers because Kara moving on from her home in time mirrors the fact that Melissa is moving away from the show. They get to write the characters saying goodbye to each other the way the writers and actors say goodbye to the job they have had for such a long time.
I also think that the writers love Nia and they love the idea of the show ending with her the being the Champion and Protector of Nationl City, that it is a compliment to her that Kara leaves the city in her hands.
I have always had my eye on Andrea and Lena and yes, I absolutely count on the idea that they will “end up together”. Now I actually don’t think that the show will define it as romantic. But to me beefing up Andrea and Lena’s friendship and connection makes a ton of sense with a Kara leaving ending. People have always claimed that Kara can’t leave for the future because she can’t abandon her friends. See, I feel like this argument has always read to me like it is slyly about Lena because Lena is the character who has been portrayed as being emotionally clingy and needy.
Nia is not going to collapse without Kara. Nia is capable. She has gone through her “apprenticeship” with Kara, she is ready to say goodybe to Kara and to take responsibility on her own.
I get the vibe that the writers insofar agree about Lena and Lena’s abandonment issues that it would be sad if “her only friend” left. But Kara isn’t Lena’s only friend anymore. Lena now has a bigger variety of friends and she was given Andrea as a more personal friend. So when the ending comes and the question is asked where all the characters end up, then Lena’s answer is “oh, she and Andrea are out and about, traveling, having adventures.” Lena is not alone. She isn’t being abandoned. She has Andrea with her. (again, I don’t think the show will cast them as romantic/sexual, but their stories will still end up together)
Which leaves two people, Alex and J’onn. It is pretty clear that as far as the writers are concerned, Alex&Kara is the most important relationship to these characters.
But Alex is unselfish and Alex is strong. Yes, she and Kara have a close, sometimes close to co-dependant relationship. But the show has also always brushed against the idea of how it might be unhealthy for Alex’s life to be all about Kara. There is value too in Alex having her own “growing up” story, about being her own hero, about finally becoming a mother, about forming a family unit with Kelly. Alex will have a full life, as a hero with a family. Her goodbye with Kara will be tearful and meaningful, but it will releasing Kara with both of them looking forward to a happy future. (and let’s remember, nothing about Kara going to the future means on their level that Kara can never pop back in, it’s more like moving to a different city for a job, not vowing to never speak to Alex again).
J’onn is the interesting one. I don’t think that he has a stake in Kara staying, he hasn’t been portrayed as an emotionally needy character in their relationship, but it still begets the question where he ends up. I could see either an ending where he also goes with the Legion for some mission or where the stays behind to babysit the new champions of National City, Nia and Alex.
So the main open question to me is actually the fate of Brainia. Whether they will end on a goodbye with Nia as the protector of the city or whether he will stay a while longer for love. I could see either version, mostly based on how in love the writers are with the image of Nia standing alone and strong versus whether they think Brainia is too cute to break up.
In theory, a Legion ending could have any number of characters joining Kara in the future, J’onn, Nia, Alex, even Lena and Andrea, a case could be made for any or even all of them.
Still, I think the writers likely WANT those goodbyes as powerful, bittersweet, “cry along with the goodbyes, but with a hopeful eye to the future” ending, so I could expect at least an amount of characters to stay behind rather than it being “The Legion says it’s an emergency and everybody who is a hero jumps up and it ends with Kara putting together a team and declaring that they will SAVE THE FUTURE!”
But of course you never know ;)
