In those isolated batfam AU, batfams are always so tightknit. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love that, but consider this:
Their intra conflict is there, but when they face potential threats/meddling from people who don't know Gotham but feel like they can just come here and get involved, everyone suddenly decides that the lesser of the two evils is each other.
They have a meeting in the bat cave to try to reach an agreement among themselves so they can build an image of a perfect team with a well-oiled dynamic. Five minutes into it, Tim and Damian are having a fist fight. Bruce, Dick, and Jason are having a three-way shouting match. Cassandra and Duke are in conflict with themselves about whose side they should take, if at all. Stephanie is nowhere to be found. Barbara is gathering more information from the shouting match to use later. This is the first time since forever that more than three of them are in the Batcave at the same time.
They are all perfectly in sync with each other when it's time to confront an outsider.
----------------‐
Flash: Anyone from their group can speak for them all! It's like their minds are connected!
Batfam: We already discussed everything imaginable beforehand and have a 20-page long condition everyone needs to remember, so we don't need to discuss anything in front of other people. Someone was stabbed in the process.
Wonder woman: They know each other so well. What a good comrade!
Tim and Jason: Know everything about each other because they stalk each other. Respect for privacy is a myth.

This was my request fill for the One Piece Fanwork Exchange back in April that I posted on AO3. The zosan prompt was "two pining idiots"
I've been debating for months whether to post it on tumblr since long vertical comics often don't look good in the thumbnails, still not sure I'm too happy with that bit.

it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...
