Quiet Respite 🕸️❤️🦇
find the whole thing on Ao3 or read the previous updates here on tumblr
Tumblr media
A DC x MCU fic inspired by Dark Matter, Cassandra Cain meets Peter Parker in an exploratory romance slash “mystery” fic. (If you’ve read a lot of these before, you pretty much can tell what’s going on in the background.) Features: Cass’s turn as POV character, use of sign language, the flimsiest timeline you’ve ever seen, teen romance, hurt/comfort, implied homelessness, fight scenes, Cass’s teen rebellion arc, Spider-Man villain arc?? (whoopsie), and a good deal of sneaking around. Updates on tumblr before ao3.
Previous updates are listed above, so if you don’t want to start off with ch 15 below, click on those. This is just to consolidate a big post into something slightly smaller. Anyway, enjoy the continuation of Peter’s trauma-induced depression arc.
🕸🕷🕸❤
The next day is dance class.
Baby Bat’s school will be waiting for him tomorrow, which means Peter will either go, or not go.
That’s a tomorrow problem. Today, Cass has dance.
She hovers her hand over Peter’s stomach. “Can I…touch?” She uses her voice to ask.
He lets her touch. She gently prods his ribs.
“They don’t hurt anymore,” Peter whispers as he signs, exhausted, but awake. “I ate. I slept. I healed.”
He heals quickly, then. Some creatures do. Cass nods.
“Okay.” Cass can sign that one without even looking at him. She rolls off of her bed. “We are going.”
Peter frowns. He’s confused. “We…?” he starts, but his hands fall before finishes his thought. He’s too tired.
Cass hums a doing chores song that Alfred likes. “Mmhmm,” she vocalizes in her throat, more thought than sound. She reaches underneath her Peter, and he barely even flails. So gentle with her.
“Wait, where are we—?” He squawks. If he’s signing, it’s at the wrong angle for Cass to see. “What?? Cass— Wait—“
Having his bare skin against her arms is kind of nice. He’s kind of squishy. Cass is hopeful that with more food, he might be even squishier. His body is a little too cold. He needs clothing.
Cass makes it over to the door. An almost-free hand wiggles enough to get Cass’s fluffy purple robe from the hook on back of it, and positioning Peter beneath it makes it fall neatly onto his face.
Peter makes a wounded noise. But he’s not hurt. Cass whistles Alfred’s cleaning tune and opens the door with a careful stretch and her toes.
Cass pokes her head through the door.
Cass looks left. Cass looks right.
“I don’t think anyone is here,” Peter murmurs, close to her ear. He’s looking where she’s looking but— right. Peter and the spider are the same. He can hear things Cass can only feel whispers of. She nods. She carries him down to Bigger Bird’s room.
Bigger Bird’s not here, but his pants are. Cass pulls open a drawer with her toes (new skill!), sticks Peter closer, and let him choose.
…And prods him to choose, when he doesn’t.
“Are we stealing?” Peter mumbles, upset. But he picks a pair of shiny, dark blue shorts. “Because I stopped that now.”
“No. Giving back. Later.”
“Oh. Well, then.”
Baby Bat’s shirts fit better. Cass walks them across the hall to Baby Bat’s room, stepping over the clutter and noise to get to his closet.
“It is a little weird how comfortable you are with going into other people’s closets,” Peter says under an exhausted sigh. Cass understands most of the sentence: the part that says This is weird. The rest is probably about the clothing.
“One child,” she accuses of him easily. “Normal.”
Peter barely looks at the shirts. He picks one off the closet without examining it. “Only child?”
“Mmhmm.” What’s the difference?
The door cracks open. Cass knows it’s going to be Baby Bat, so she doesn’t worry. Baby Bat likes Peter. He appears in the doorway, head-speakers half on and half off, computer under his arm. “Ca— Peter?!”
Peter’s head lolls in Baby Bat’s direction. Cass shifts to accommodate him. “…Hi,” says Peter.
“You’re in my house?” Baby Bat asks, confused. His eyebrows are pushed together. He doesn’t understand why they’re in his room, or in his room, together.
“…I have been? For a few days?” Peter asks, more confused than Baby Bat is. Cass hasn’t told him they were hiding him.
(To be fair, she thought it was obvious.)
“Shirt, please,” Cass rasps, and gestures to Peter, clad in only her purple robe and with his stuck-up hair.
Thankfully, signing: “Okay??” only takes one hand and a strong expression. Cass loves Baby Bat. She might kiss his hair on the way out.
Cass wheels them out into the hallway, almost backs into a fancy art thing on a tiny table, and ferries Peter back into her room.
His dirty clothes and his metal skin are still on her floor. They’ll have to stay there until Alfred cleans her room tomorrow and the laundry goes away.
Peter. Stands. He holds the clothes. He doesn’t change.
That’s okay. Cass takes his choices from his hands and carefully guides him through the process. Sometimes just touching the body is enough to bring someone back to it. His arms go up. The shirt goes over his head. Cass touches each foot to guide his legs into the shorts.
His body is dressed, although he is without shoes. Cass fetches skinny little socks from her drawer, because his body is always too cold to her touch and loving people means giving heat and warmth.
Hm. Maybe he should have her jacket too.
Bigger Bat is fending for himself in doing job things. Bigger Bird is doing day work in his very far, very smelly city. Baby Bat already likes lying to Bigger Bat for fun.
All Cass has to do is take Peter into the car with her.
…With Alfred.
Cass is very gentle with Peter. He’s strong and he’s healed and she doesn’t have to be gentle, but Bigger Bat is always gentle with Cass even though he doesn’t have to be too. She takes Peter’s hand to walk him downstairs for fear that he won’t come after her if she doesn’t. They slip through the long halls and heavy doors of Cass’s new nest on socked feet.
Alfred is already at the door when Cass and Peter get there. When Cass puts herself between Alfred and Peter, it’s almost unconscious.
Alfred looks up.
Alfred looks down.
He does not look…surprised.
“I had thought Cass was hiding a cat,” Alfred signs, slowly and precisely, as he always does.
“P-e-t-e-r,” Cass fingerspells instead. She tries not to look sheepish. She is doing a good thing. She doesn’t have to be shy about it.
“Indeed. To the car?” Alfred signs, and speaks, in case Peter doesn’t understand ASL.
Peter doesn’t sign back; but still, he’s pliable. Cass guides him into the car, and he buckles himself in.
They go to dance.
Peter doesn’t dance, but that’s okay; Alfred is clear with his words and tone that say Leave him alone and Be nice at the same time, and all the same ballerinas who had watched Cass be tossed with envy are careful and quiet with him.
The music plays. A dozen feet fall on the same beat, and Cass dances.
Arms. Legs. Bend. Twirl. Dip, and bend. Turn. Angle her head, just so, so that Cass can watch Peter without breaking the line of perfectly organized dancers.
Peter watches, legs crossed, knees up to his chin.
The lessons end, and the ballerinas leave— kindly waving to Cass, to Peter, with shy shoulders and soft-spoken concern. They’re nice. Cass loves dance-partners. They mean as much to her as fight-partners ever could.
The ballerinas leave. The teacher, in her black leotard and taut leggings, leaves.
Cass doesn’t leave. The floors smell like wood and wax. There’s the smell of sweat and emotion in the air. The mirror is the only cool part of the humid, sweaty room. Cass, not Batgirl and yet in a black bodysuit, sits beside Peter.
Peter says nothing.
Cass says nothing.
…Cass holds out a hand.
Peter. Looks at it. He isn’t sure he wants to take it, she can tell— knows what it’s for, but doesn’t have the energy to do anything about the gesture.
“Please,” Cass asks. Animals that do not move are doomed to die.
Her spider sees the expression on her face. His own falters because of it.
His grip is hesitant, but Cass is certain. She hauls him to his feet and puts them in pose: their fingers entwined, his palms to her, her body to his, her cheek to his collarbone.
For a moment, they just breathe, in silent embrace.
And then Cass moves, and Peter moves with her, two minds and one body.
Peter only follows old memories at first; muscle memory works to keep his body upright, to bend and to hold her, to keep Cass steady and sure.
But Cass knows what’s going to happen before it happens; her spider is a creature of movement, just like her.
Slowly, as she spins, as he follows, his eyes soften. His practiced care becomes intentional. Then it becomes artistic, and Peter joins her in the music.
The girl who wears Batgirl’s skin and a spider boy dance in an empty studio, arm in arm, dancing to music she has heard in her dreams. Their footsteps are a whisper of an echo against the plaster walls and glass mirror around them. Cass can see their reflections when she’s angled to— in the sunset angling through the windows, they are little more than the shadows they pretend to be.
She isn’t surprised when Peter lifts her— she knows he knows she likes it— but the relief that Peter feels safe enough to play a little makes her laugh. Openly. Loudly.
Peter’s eyes go wide with awe.
Cass can’t help but adore him for it.
He slowly lets her down. He doesn’t let go of her.
It’s good that he doesn’t. She wants to (and she does) angle Peter’s head down, until she can press a kiss to his curls. She pulls him in close and he comes to her.
Tears find Cass’s shirt. She welcomes them as long as Peter needs to cry them.
“T-they’re,” Peter hiccups, too close to her to sign. “They’re gone. Everyone’s gone. My aunt, my friends, my…my team, my uncle.”
Cass knew some of that. Not the details. Her arms circle around him so she can pull him tighter. “I’m here,” Cass whispers.
There’s a sob against her chest. “What do I do? Where do I go from here? Everyone’s…”
“I’m here,” Cass whispers again, because it’s the truth. “Let me…help. Brothers help. Dad helps.”
“They’re not…” Peter grips her back— careful not to crush her, not like Cass had hurt him days before. “They’re your family. Not mine.”
Cass clicks her tongue. That can easily change. Once upon a time, the Bat hadn’t been her parent either. Now she has two-and-more brothers and parent and a purple friend and an Alfred. “Can share.” And then, because she means it: “Stupid.” She bonks her head down onto his. Peter’s laugh is watery, but it’s bright.
Cass carries Peter to the car this time. He almost smiles.
(Alfred does.)
“I hope you understand that this does require you to be at dinner, young Masters,” Alfred says, signing the gist to Cass as they go. Cass catches most of it, though his white gloves make it hard to tell where Alfred’s fingers are.
Cass sticks out her tongue. Peter splutters, wide-eyed.
(They trade the sight of pink tongues all the ride home.)
(Alfred pretends not to see them, but Cass catches his smile in the mirror at odd glances.)

HE'S AN ABUSER GARBAGE WASTE... EITHER HE'S BAD WHICH HE IS EITHER WAY OR THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE FOR HIM TO BE LIKE THIS. SIMPLE AS THAT. IRONMAN IS THE SAME WAY... BESIDES... HE PEAKS AS A FATHER... SHOULD'VE JUST BEEN HIS DAUGHTER'S FATHER FROM THE BEGGINING... THEM DUAL PROTAGONIST... A BETTER MOVIE THAN IRONMAN 1. WHAT THAT MOVIE SHOULD'VE ALREADY BEEN.

Related to my prev post:
I don't give two shits if Bruce is written like a bad dad if it means we get good writing for everybody else since i think minorities are more important than a white cishet male nepotism baby unlike his butch lesbian counterpart who's judaism is an actual fundamental part of her character and since he's been written as abusive so consistently over the years it's in-character anyway
Dick can be both bi/pan and demisexual and there's more evidence for the latter than the former so making him be sexually loose is aspec erasure and mspec stereotyping and he dosen't have a thing for redheads,he has a thing for black women and to me the only guy he seems to like romantically is Roy and that adds on to his demisexuality since they're childhood best friends
'Catholic guilt Jason' is a shit headcanon that misses the major and critical part of him being Red Hood that he didn't feel the slightest bit bad about killing people and the point of his redemption was learning remorse, afrolatino Jason isn't based on stereotyping but him filling out so many black and latino cultural aspects and if any hcs for him are stereotyping it's the one that he's a slut because he's a very handsome and hot and cute goth punk man
Tim is perfect the way he is and dosen't need power ups or to get 'punished' for the oh so horrible crime of being a realistic teenage boy,he's not JUST huge a loser or a super cool dude but both at once and it's bad writing and fetishistic to ignore his wide range of relathionships that consists of mostly of women to make him a 'guys guy'
Stephanie is heavily autistic and bpd-coded so she's far from a 'normie',much less an 'it girl' but people see blonde hair and blue eyes and throw away everything else about her because that's all she's worth to them or call her an abuser and a pick me just like they do irl bpdtistic women and she's also canonically pastel/indie punk and a Team Mom but gets her presentation switched to basic and made out to be a womanchild instead
Cass had a million times more moral conflict than Jason ever did, would never in her LIFE wanna be feminine even in the chinese way and would be butch in it instead, turning her scattered speech into sign language is ableist not unlike(but not on the same level as)changing Babs' type of wheelchair disability and she'd be a better Batman than any male character in existense
Duke is only a golden child in the sense he has a yellow motif and is as disruptive and authentically quirky as his siblings,We Are Robin is a better team than the canon Outlaws, his powers are cooler than any Al-Ghul ones you could come up with,he has more femme energy than Tim does and Carrie Kelley ain't shit and only gets brought back to replace him because DC is antiblack
Damian's introduction mentality was a result of not only child abuse but also psychological grooming to get him to dehumanize himself and all his bigoted comments are explained either by him being like 12 or his writers trying to demonize brown people and anybody who thinks he's a bad person is a super-sized pissbaby with no sympathy for kids of color, shipping him with Jon is making a bisexual man into a ped0phile and Jay is good even if aging Jon up wasn't and he should be friends with Maya,Suren,Nell,Colin,Kathy,Maps,Tai and Miles,Gwen,Peni,Pavitr,Hobie and Margo from Atsv and Nico and Hazel from Pjo instead of Billy Batson or Danny Fenton or ANY Mcu characters
Talia is super hot but should be drawn in accurate arab clothes instead 'sexy assasian gear'(not that these two can't co-exist but you get what i mean),her personality is extremely rich and her stories are mega interesting, she's a good mom to Damian and literally never 'took advantage of Jason' seeing as That Scene In Lost Days was decanonized by it's writer who said it was ooc for her on his part, she should've been a mom figure to Stephanie in her Robin Days too since they would get along and she deserved her own run where she takes over Lexcorp to transform it into a force for good and become Superfam-adjacent to free herself from having only male connections

can I talk about how I don’t think the winterwidow / Buckynat ship isn’t a good ship? For the mcu, I understand it’s quite the thing in the comics, but I don’t think it would make sense at all if it were to be incorporated. If you want to bother reading, it’s all below the line, but don’t like argue with me or something unless you’ve actually read it all. Or don’t argue with me, please, because this is my opinion and it doesn’t have to effect you.
First of all, in the comics Bucky (as the winter soldier) was brought to the red room and stuff for some reason (which makes sense, I can see HYDRA and the red room being in kahoots with each other since they are very similar) but for some reason Bucky ‘fell in love’ with Natasha? While he was there? And he’d like sneak to her room to see her and stuff, but she was “promised to another man” or whatever the story was. However. That wouldn’t make sense at all, because A) Bucky would have obviously been under heavy security and was very much brainwashed to not feel emotion at the time. B) the red room would not marry off their widows. And C) Natasha would have been wayyyyyyyy younger than him physically at the time. Like I personally just treat Bucky by his physical age or whatever, like his thirties or something, because obviously he’s way older than everyone anyway, but that’s like seriously concerning if that’s true that he fell in love with her then. And in the ca:tws movie Natasha takes about the Winter Soldier like she is also barely sure he was real, and only knew because she was shot.
like I understand that they are both very similar, yk trained assassin against their will, and yes they’re both attractive people, but I don’t like the ship for the movies. I don’t know, it just rubs me the wrong way. Even if that isn’t the backstory that would be used. I, personally, like the idea of Natasha not having a love interest at all. That’s just my opinion. It makes her character more interesting and, to me, just cool. I don’t have as much against the her and Bruce ship, I think the way the marvel movies did that was decent. But I’m also perfectly fine with her having no love interest at all. She doesn’t need a love interest. Thanks for reading this if you somehow bothered to and just remember, that this is my opinion. You can ship whatever you want (unless it’s the bee movie). I’m not stopping you, I’m not saying you’re wrong, if I didn’t explain this good enough please ask me so I can clarify. Again, the comics can do whatever and I know that the comic logic is far different from the movies, but that’s exactly why I think that ship would be bad for the mcu

assigning marvel heroes engineering majors (1)
i tried to write this so it makes sense even if you don't know much about engineering!! this post has my headcanons for peter parker, steve rogers, tony stark, and clint barton!!
as a preface, i am very aware that most of the marvel heroes would not in fact be in school for engineering even in an alternate universe. unfortunately, my fixation on both superheroes and engineering knows no bounds.
please feel free to ask me any questions about eng or for further explanation my reasons for these picks!! i am only in one type of eng but know many people in other disciplines so hopefully i'll be able to answer :)))
Peter Parker - Mechanical & Biomedical
I truly, truly believe the correct peter parker engineering take depends on what portrayal of spiderman you are looking at. like tobey's spiderman? would not touch biomed with a pole let alone mech. ... that peter parker is so far from engineer...... i dont even know where i would put him. materials? pls send your opinions if you have them.
BUT MCU, tom holland, spiderman would definitely definitely be in mechanical & biomedical. i actually got this from an irl friend, so if you see this somehow pls say hi LMAO
mechanical is one of the most common streams of eng and, while absolutely not something i ever want to touch, is really neat. it centers around keeping things in motion (contrary to civil engineering where if something is moving you're in trouble). it applies physics in really cool ways which i imagine would be a draw to peter just on the sole basis of personal interest. mech also plays with materials as it explores elasticity, deformation, fractures, yield strength, and other materials things i have blocked out LOL. when i think of that aspect i feel like it matches really well with the designed suit, the webs, and, if you listen to the science jargon he throws around in the movies, some of his prior knowledge.
biomedical engineering is actually used by some (the insane) as a gateway into med school. it covers human anatomy and genetic engineering (radioactive spider????). i do not believe peter would do med school too (because that student debt tho) but i also can't imagine him not trying to apply what he learns to helping others. i am personally partial to applying engineering principles to physiology and i can just imagine him implementing his mechanical knowledge into making prosthetics. if i had the brain power for this degree i would love to do that.
Steve Rogers - Civil Engineering
.... listen. steve rogers would fight a war before sitting in an hour lecture about dirt. i know this and acknowledge this wholeheartedly. HOWEVER,,,, I have a friend in civil with a special interest on sustainable design and you cannot, cannot tell me that isn't steven rogers coded.
civil engineering is not architecture, like at all, which i think is a common misconception if you don't know engineering well ( totally understandable!) unfortunately, i don't think civil caters to his artistic side that well but as someone who likes art but only does it as a hobby next to eng, i think thats okay.
civil engineering is kind of the mother to environmental engineering in the sense that they both look into wastewater treatments, geology, and even environmental planning (in some cases) but civil will also go into more detail with structural components and design of buildings. you'll find civil engineers involved in every building being made and in every town council ensuring clean drinking water and working sewage systems. typically they specialize into one or the other but shhhh ignore that for this post.
what i am trying to say here is that this would give steve a shit ton of wiggle room which i think he would use to help both the environment and people. paying engineers is expensiveeee especially for qualified, capable ones. i think steve would find deep satisfaction in working either for free or for the bare minimum cost (not that you should - know your worth :) ) and i think that he would actively use his work to call out designs that endanger communities or their environments.
this man knows his local engineering ethics code and WILL call someone out.
Tony Stark - Engineering Physics
when i started writing this section i thought it was going to be the easiest but unfortunately i did in fact have to phone a friend. tony stark is THE engineer so narrowing him down to one discipline felt impossible. my friend suggested engineering physics so i went with that.
the thing is eng phys is THE engineering degree. it is wonderful because you look at almost every thing mech, elec, and comp related (will explain more below) without specializing too greatly. it is also difficult because you don't specialize. for tony stark, who did not have to go into that internship grindset mentality, it would all be net positives.
to make the suit i immediately knew tony needed to have an extremely good knowledge on BOTH electrical (circuitry, coding, wires, magnetism, fun stuff) and mechanical (explained in peter's section!!). i was considering a double major but then was stumped because i love my elec and mech friends but they have no desire to produce a new element and also... creating an arc reactor??? plus AI's??? while likely related to software, it he would have bare minimum had to have had a good computer engineering (kind of how it sounds, engineering related to building and using computers and components of computers, lots of overlap w/ elec) background.
to wield the amount of science knowledge tony stark has an be able to apply it in an engineering context he would either have to be a genius (which like canonically he is so yknow) or take every course offered to engphys students (and some).
i think as a student he would have also enjoyed that not having to specify aspect. i imagine him always in the pursuit of knowledge. yay eng physics!!!
Clint Barton - Materials Engineering
If you've read the reasonings for some of the characters above you have likely thought to yourself "wow, such clear arguments, time must have been put into this" which like yes but also no because for this decision i am going exclusively on vibes.
materials focuses on, well, materials. it looks at both composition and properties (plus how composition effects properties). my friends in matls tell me its pretty research heavy which doesn't really fit with clint, i am aware. but every person i have met from this faculty i am convinced would get along with him.
I KNOW THIS ISN'T GREAT REASONING. i think that engineering would always be second to other things or interests in his life (even when he's a student) but I think the promise of a stable job and the hypothetical applications are really interesting. matls and mech can be surprisingly similar and i think he would find more satisfaction in manipulating materials to better fit his goals than in being stuck within predefined constraints.
plus, imagine creating a new material for like the tensile strength of your bow. incredibly cool
I'm thinking i'll work on doing more of these as i find the time!! i definitely have a few ideas for other characters, i just need to figure out how to articulate my reasonings haha.
if you have any ideas or shared interest in engineering and superheroes please let me know!! i have also been recently into the bat family, as you could probably tell by my reblogs, and am thinking of doing a version with them also!!

finding out his soulmate is depressed hcs ; loki
Tumblr media
requested by ; anonymous (19/05/22)
fandom(s) ; marvel cinematic universe / mcu
fandom masterlist(s) ; here
character(s) ; loki laufeyson
outline ; “request: i'm desperate for a soulmate au. it doesn't make if it's between loki or wanda because i love them both but i'd love your take on the soulmate au. it'd be cool if the reader had depression, cause same. thank you!”
note ; this is going off of the au where there is a ‘red string’ connecting people and is based on the avenger!loki concept
additional note ; the references to the reader’s depression are extremely brief but present
warning(s) ; canon typical references to violence and angst
loki spent the vast majority of his life thinking that he was damned — the only person in asgard to be without a soulmate
wishing, praying, reading up on anything and everything he could just to scrape together some tiny crumb of hope that one day his string would manifest
that he wasn’t truly alone
a thousand years passed him by
then two
then three
by his fourth he’d started to lose hope and as he started to fast approach his fifth he’d given up all together
the black sheep of his family; unworthy even in the eyes of the universe
it was like some sort of sick joke
but he never told a soul, lying through his teeth as naturally as he breathed and telling tall tales of his golden string and how he was waiting for the right moment to pursue his soulmate
but they didn’t exist
and it hurt more than he’d ever let show
until one day, a quarter century shy of his five thousandth year, he awoke to find a golden string wound tightly around his ring finger — precisely where one might put a wedding band
he shook of the drowsiness and bleariness of sleep in seconds, inspecting the deceptively fragile twine with rapt interest
flicking, tugging, strumming and winding it tighter and tighter — spooling it between his fingers curiously as it continued onwards into the distance without effort or strain
always having the same amount of tautness to it no matter how hard or how far he pulled
gold spun as thin as spider silk yet, as present to the world as a light breeze yet as heavy and palpable as traditional battle regalia as he brushed his fingertip along its surface
tangibly intangible, paradoxically present and yet not so, visible and invisible
exactly as the old stories had told — and there, in the distance somewhere, was his fated other half on the unseeable other end of the string
loki wanted nothing more than to meet you, but he knew well enough that the string’s late appearance meant that he still had a long while to wait — so, instead, he busied himself with his usual routine
messing with his brother, studying with his mother and proving his worth as an heir to asgard to his father
… and i’m sure that we don’t need to explain what happened in the interim so let’s skip forwards until after the 2012 incident…
the last thing he wanted was to spend his sentence waiting on a bunch of mortals — confined to a small space filled with creatures that despised him and that were far below him in every way
and he did very little to hide his disdain for the situation — which was mirrored by his ‘landlord’, stark, who also made it very well known that he didn’t want ‘reindeer games’ living in his tower
loki, in return, went to let out another sarcastic remark about the man’s ignorance before he caught sight of the very thing he’d been ignoring for the better part of a year and the words died on his throat
leaving him completely speechless for the first time since anyone had seen him after his attempt to take his own life back in asgard
after millennia of feeling so terribly alone he could see the other end of his string and it was attached to… well… you
a mortal who looked terribly detached from their surroundings, just carrying out some standard busywork in the background of his custody announcement like it was nothing at all
if he hadn’t have been forced to wear those damned cuffs he’d have peered into your mind by now — but it didn’t take a psychic to see something in you that he had been trying to conceal in himself for a while
loki didn’t speak to you that day, nor did he get the chance for a good few months as your responsibilities kept you separated to different areas of the tower
he, as a (very unwilling) member of the avengers initiative, was forced to keep to the top few floors for training, briefing and other such things
and you, who he found to be a standard member of stark industries, tended to stay on the lower floors of the tower unless you were called upon by your boss
it was frustrating, to say the very least, but the separation gave loki the time to consider his next steps — and his situation as a whole
consider the fact that he’s destined to be with a mortal of all beings — consider the differences in experience, strength and life span
consider the fact that you likely fear or potentially even hate him for his actions against your home world — that you’d probably scorn or mock him because of his actions (and he’d deserve it, he lamented)
consider the fact that he saw part of himself in your eyes and that a mortal of all things might just be the one to understand him
consider how to approach you in the first place
in the end he just about manages to catch you as you’re walking out of a meeting with stark and some higher level agents of s.h.i.e.l.d — coughing and gesturing to the string between the two of you
for a moment you just stare at him, blinking and looking between his neutral expression and the golden string — before cracking something of an awkward smile and introducing yourself (which he returns with a kiss on the back of your hand)
and you’re too busy to stay for long, and he knows this, so he sends you on your way with the promise to meet again soon
but he also says something that sticks with you as you hurry off to your next meeting — for the rest of the day, in fact
‘i understand,’
a simple, unassuming phrase spoken so quietly and genuinely that you might have thought you’d dreamt it had it not been for the earnest look on his face when he spoke
(though even that disappeared a fraction of a second later)
the end of your brief exchange that left you questioning everything you were told about him
his tendency to isolate himself according to thor (and, later, observations from the other avengers)
his habit of lashing out when pressed on certain topics
his lack of appetite for the entirety of the time you (and most other humans) had known him
his apathy towards his own well-being and, well, what he’d done before ending up on earth which had been mentioned in whispers around the office
maybe you had more in common with your soulmate than you realised — but that could be discussed at your next meeting

I don't understand anti-logyn. I mean I totally get it if people aren't interested in Sigyn as a character or figure. But I don't understand the dislike of the ship. All these claims that Sigyn is a OC self insert is such unnecessary hate. The insistence on saying self-insert too. If I write a fanfic or make fan art of a MCU version Gwen Stacy is it self-insert because I'm making her the way I think is cool and want to see her?
I see people claim the Angrboda is so much better, and the she has a personality unlike Sigyn. What!? The only thing known about Angrboda is that she was scary, that's it. That's not a personality, there's just as little info on Angrboda as there is on Sigyn. And the claim that logyn shippers are anti-angrboda. I've never seen that, at worst Sigyn fans are a little salty Angrboda gets respected in adaptation and Sigyn never does, but the sentiment is never that Angrboda is a bad character herself. If anything it's the other way around. Sigyn is always put down in favor of Angrboda.
Maybe you ship Loki with someone else. Maybe you don't want Loki shipped with anyone. Or maybe you're just put off by the over enthusiasm. But to hate such a small fraction of the fandom because they want a rewrite a concept they feel was poorly done is so unnecessary. We know Loki was a crappy husband in Marvel, but that doesn't make Sigyn irredeemable as a concept.
People adore Hades and Persephone as a concept. A relationship that could only be considered good in comparison to the rest of Greek mythology. But people romanticize the hell out of it regardless. The modernize, they give Persephone agency and she really has none in the original myth.
There will always be people that ship Gwen and Peter over MJ even though In the canon it will always end with Peter and MJ. That's fine that's their business if they like Gwen more. Let fans have their thing.

Demonata by Darren Shan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
✓ I liked it
And I hated it. It was extremely good, and extremely flawed. I wanted it to be over, at the same time, couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed it but it was so hard to get through and yet worth it.
If I haven’t made it obvious by now, I have mixed feelings on this series. And by that, I mean a lot of mixed feelings.
There are ten books in this series: 1.Lord loss 2.Demon thief 3.Slawter 4.Bec 5.Blood beast 6.Demon apocalypse 7.Death’s shadow 8.Wolf island 9.Dark calling 10.Hell’s heroes. Each book is usually less than 300 pages, and pretty easy to read.
It's young adult fantasy horror mostly aimed at younger teenagers. They’re officially listed as “middle grade” however I personally don’t think this amount of gore and horror (very descriptive & graphic) is appropriate for an 8 year old. I remember reading the first 3 books at 14 and loving them.
There are 3 protagonists present by the names of Grubbs, Kernel, and Bec. Each book is told from a different point of view.
Now on to my opinion (minor spoilers):
The first 4 books? Great. Amazing. Perfect even. The ones that come after? Downhill. (Well, mostly downhill. Death’s shadow was still as good as the first ones.)
The first 4 books give the series a very strong start. Each one is about a different protagonist in a different timeline and it sets up the plot and characters quite nicely. But as soon as the timelines crash and the 3 protagonists meet and unite? The story starts becoming stale and dragging on wayyyy too much.
Each of the first 4 books have their own stand alone stories while setting up future plot points, but afterwards it’s just set up after set up, with little pay off and too high stakes, to the point that you don’t even care anymore. It kinda reminds me of MCU actually.
I mean, for example book 9. Dark calling has no actual story of its own. It’s just 186 pages of exposition about information you need to know so that the next book makes sense.
There is a sort of? Inverse? Character? Development?? I’m not sure what it’s called, but instead of unlikable characters becoming likable, the cast of lovable characters becoming completely appalling by the end.
You will start to notic a pattern when it comes to side characters. Most of which aren’t important and get introduced only to be killed later, without any purpose or development.
While I find plot twists to be one of the biggest strength of Darren Shan and I love him for it, I don’t think every single book needed to have one. Now don’t get me wrong, he writes plot twists so well, I’m in shock and awe. I cannot emphasize how good he is with plot twists, but as the story progresses, you start to anticipate them and they lose their intended effect. (Except for book 7, ofc. God that one was so delicious)
All of this complaining might make it sound I didn’t like or enjoy the series, but I assure you that I truly did. My annoyance and fury stems from a place of love. I’m just mourning the lost potential and nitpicking the issues that stopped a good series from becoming a great series. But I would still recommend reading this to anyone between the ages of 12 - 15 I come across.
Lastly, my favorite characters were “Lord Loss” and “Dervish”. (And to a lesser extent Beck. She was pretty great too. Definitely well written and interesting. She's the star of book 7 and she shines.)
I used to like Grubbs and Kernel in the first few books, but like I said, by the end there was nothing likable left about them.
I absolutely loved Dervish. (Even though he was pretty pathetic at times, ngl) he was a good character and a good person, and he stayed that way until the very end. Most importantly he was cool, interesting, sarcastic, and charismatic, lol. His arc and development were good too.
But my all time favorite has to be Lord Loss. Yes the villain. But God, he’s just sooo good at being bad. He makes an amazing antagonist. He’s evil, literally a demon with no redeeming qualities, his presence is dark and chilling and he doesn’t pull back ANY punches. See that people? THAT’S how you right a good villain. If this was a movie he would absolutely steal every single scene he was in. Whenever he showed up I just KNEW things were about to become hella intense and interesting XD
That’s pretty much all I have to say on this book series. It might be worth mentioning that the whole story is rather forgettable. But I guess on the bright side, that means you can read it again and still enjoy it as much as the first time ;)
Farewell for now ~

The #GirlBoss movement in the MCU is extremely pseudo-feminist.
I could be totally off-base with this, but has anybody else noticed that here lately the mcu has had a slight pattern of making a few female characters ridiculously overpowered as well as turbo-hyped by the narrative and marketing…
This specifically includes Wanda, Carol Danvers, and Sylvie.
I’m in particular talking about how all 3 of them had far less time for character exploration and strength build-up than the majority of the other more powerful heroes, had fairly bland and uncreative personalities compared to the other more powerful heroes (Wanda was coddled by the narrative and not allowed to have any ownership in her wrongdoings which would’ve made her more complex, Carol was a victim of the “having the same arrogant attitude as the douchebro male characters is all it takes to make a Strong Female Character(TM)” writers’ mentality, and Sylvie with mary sue-ed to hell), and were generally made more about the cool powers and ‘oooh such a badass’ moments and the aesthetic than the actual depth.
My point is… they’re all so shallow and performative. It’s like the (mostly male) writers looked at the female character and scoffed and said “ok there’s no way this lady’s gonna become a fan fave on her own- we have to help her. We have to give her a boost. I have zero faith in women being able to gain popularity by their own merit (because who’d be interested in a woman, ammiright?), so we can’t just give her a compelling backstory and let that be it. We have to make sure she has the most tragic backstory of anyone on screen at any given time, and we have to make sure the audience knows it! We can’t just give her a specific set of powers and depict them in an interesting and unique way. We have to make her stronger than any other character she’s going to share screen time with and we have to have her flaunt her powers every ten minutes to remind the audience how strong she is! We can’t just make her intelligent in her own way and give her witty banter with the male characters. We have to make sure she makes them look like idiots and condescends them as frequently as possible so the audience knows it! We can’t just flesh out her morals and let her get things wrong sometimes. We have to make it so she’s always in the right and the audience should always be on her side! And even when she does something wrong, we have to make sure the audience knows that it wasn’t really her fault and she still has the moral high ground! That’s the only way we’ll ever get people to like her as much as the main male characters!!”
It’s just…. This is just rank with a lack of confidence in women. They approach the idea of having women front and center with equal parts skepticism and greed. They’re so out of touch with what women want in superhero films and just what women want in general. They fall into the trap of thinking feminists want everyone to know that girls are actually superior to guys, when in reality we just want to be treated with the respect and humanity and agency guys have always been treated with.
And by creating these female characters the way they do (making sure they’re not equal but decidedly better than the male ones, making sure they’re nearly infallible strength-wise, making sure they’re never allowed to be held accountable for mistakes) they literally defeat that whole point. They’re being extremely counterproductive to what feminists are actually trying to do, because they aren’t actually interested giving women genuinely good representation- they’re just interested in pandering to Twitter stans and casual female fans who form their opinions based on a first glance and girls who are so starved for rep that they’ll praise movie-makers for serving up rank crumbs.
They give us female representation but not really, just like they give us queer representation but not really, and like they give us poc representation but oftentimes not really…. Because (surprise surprise) the multi-billion dollar corporation does not actually give a shit about minority issues.

What’s your opinion on the titans designs in lo
i swear to christ i was watching attack on titan when i read this question and did a double take like holy shit am i gonna get to gush about AOT????
okay but to answer the ACTUAL question, I actually have um... some interesting takes on them.
First off, for starters. Helios. Pretty neat. I know he's just yellow Zeus but he's big and he's sassy and I wish we could see more of him.
Kronos was cool until RS turned him into an MCU villain.
Gaia I'm sort of indifferent on... she really doesn't have any sort of real role in the story beyond being some Avatar McGuffin. Her original design was badass but then ofc, as all things go in LO, RS dumbed her design down and now she looks just like another Persephone clone.
Rhea was great when she first appeared but, again, Persephone clone. I don't like the recent retcon/establishment that the fertility goddesses need to experience love to have their powers used because it casts some fucked up implications (beyond the obvious) when she begged Zeus to find Metis and "use her powers no matter the cost". If I had known at the time that was gonna turn into "Zeus had a relationship with Metis" I would have been a bit more like... yikes, Rhea.
And then there's Metis... oh boy, do I have some takes about Metis. Very personal ones.
So here's the thing. Metis is the name of the Greek god, yes. But it's... it's not what comes up when you search "Metis" on its own. Because there ALSO exists an Indigenous group of people in Canada called 'Métis'. And LO Metis' design is-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sigh yeah.
Now I know I'm gonna get people who are saying I'm "reading too much into it" but y'all. I'm Mi'kmaq. The Métis people come from the same regions my own ancestors do, my own family pretty much shares blood and land with them. I promise you, I'm not pulling any of this out of my ass, Metis' design stood out to me as soon as I saw it because her outfit really resembles the fringe that you find EVERYWHERE in Indigenous clothing, like we fucking LOVE FRINGE LOL (I've got a cape/poncho thing with loads of fringe that I whip out for special occasions) And the wings resemble a lot of the 'finger feathers' you see in Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Cree, and yes, Métis art.
phew sorry I know Hephaestus is also drawn with a similar skin tone and Metis starts to veer off into flanderized colors with the bright orange like every other character in this comic, but it's just like... not a great combination.)
Tumblr media
(*edit because I forgot to add: it also REALLY REALLY REALLY DOESN'T HELP that Metis is the ONLY TITAN designed with non-neon colors. Like, she's been explicitly drawn with darker orange/reddish tones that are OFTEN AFFILIATED WITH INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. THE SLUR 'REDSKIN' EXISTS FOR A REASON-
phew sorry I know Hephaestus is also drawn with a similar skin tone and Metis starts to veer off into flanderized colors with the bright orange like every other character in this comic, but it's just like... not a great combination. The more human-like skin tone is sorta just the cherry on top.)
So... yeah. Take that with what you will. I'm not necessarily accusing RS of anything (because Metis being drawn like a Métis woman is like, the least of LO's problems) but at BEST she's just got some REAL shit Googling skills or like... didn't think anyone would notice? 😂
Either way that's... that's my (*probably biased) take on Metis. At the very least it does result in her having a way more interesting design than the others (who are basically just big color-swapped versions of Hades and Persephone) but IDK if that's a good thing when that design is in the hands of RS. She ruined Metis in the most recent episodes which is kinda lowkey even more insulting LMAO

what is going on with thunderbolts??
Several things bestie. I’ll try to keep this as concise and calm as possible:
- if we’re first talking about real life, there has been stuff going on for a while because the script was rewritten twice and changed directors months ago. And It keeps getting delayed for reasons the now unrelated to the strike.
- Second real life issue is apparently something about it just sucks, because three actors have dropped. A long time ago, the person who plays Ava Starr, Hannah John-Kamen supposedly dropped out. However, there’s rumors that Goliath is in it so it’s unclear if maybe they negotiated to get Hannah back in the cast.
- Steven Yuen was supposed to be the main antagonist, he dropped out of it recently and marvel went to several actors to take his place, and multiple rejected it. Now, Ayo Edebiri (who was supposed to play Val’s assistant) has also dropped the movie. These are confirmed by the actors themselves.
- They are very obviously trying to recreate James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad after they seen how successful it was, however they’re very blatant about it. It’s barely hidden that they’re actually trying to create their own version of what their competitor made but the issue is that they aren’t actually thinking or trying to make a good, compelling story here. It’s solely cash grab and trying to get hype. That’s it.
- Bonus for real life issues: This isn’t talked about a lot and it’s messy, unclear situation, but essentially the team of people writing and directing Thunderbolts are actually proud rapist defenders.
Now let’s get into the issues with the movie itself and why I (and many many others) think it’s gonna be awful:
- Just to give a basis, other than some people here on tumblr, majority of the rest of the MCU fan base does not want this movie to be made. It’s a pretty general consensus amongst everyone that what they’re doing is not good. And I’m saying this just so you know I’m far from the only one with these opinions.
- The villain of the movie is Sentry/Void. Which is an absolutely awesome character but it makes absolutely zero sense for him, one of the most powerful characters, to be the antagonist against a team of 3 super soldiers and 3 regular humans. Realistically he would obliterate them, and for the thunderbolts to beat him, it’d take a lot of plot armor. And to me, that’s not only a waste of Sentry as character but also a waste of a movie. Because me and most others, don’t want to watch a movie where the protagonists only win because of plot armor. I wanna watch something thought out, engaging, where the threat is real and the end battle is hard because they’re on par. This is not that. And Sentry/Void could be used with other characters in such a cool way, there’s so much potential that’s been thrown out by doing this.
- With him being the villain, what’s been confirmed to happen in the third act is that Sentry will become Void, but the void is a new dimension in the multiverse. That’s literally what he becomes and the thunderbolts have to enter it. For one, that makes absolutely no damn sense to do for this movie and two, they already have a dimension in the mcu called the void. It’s in Loki.
- If they are gonna have team with only hand to hand combat abilities, then it should be a grounded, more street level movie. And it’s not. And it’s fucking stupid.
- There’s no power/ability diversity on the team which makes it kinda boring for one, but two, if they’re gonna have an extremely powerful villain, they need a team that’s not just people who know combat. There’s so many characters who should be Thunderbolts that would be more fitting and make the movie more interesting. White Vision should absolutely be there, especially considering that he’s government property. It makes no sense that he wouldn’t be on a government team and he alone would bring some uniqueness to the skill set. Abomination should be there. Zemo, despite being a normal human, should absolutely be on the team considering he was the actual founder and primary leader of it in the comics. For fucks sake they could introduce a new character or two just to give the team some interesting abilities.
- I’ve been saving this for last. As a Bucky fan, obviously one of my biggest issues is that he’s apart of the team. I’m gonna try to keep this short, but he doesn’t belong there, it doesn’t make sense for him to be on the team after the past ten years of his arc and development. All this time he’s been the good guy victim who’s overcome the fact that he was manipulated and used by the villains. But now, they’re pivoting into villainizing him, which is not speculation, Feige and other people involved have made several quotes now claiming he’s bad.
- Even if it’s technically comics accurate, Bucky is a very different character in the MCU than he is in the comics. He’s a much more violent and rough character in the comics because that’s all he’s ever known, he was raised as a child soldier then became an assassin. In the mcu, unlike the other characters on the team, he is not morally grey. Yes, what he does have in common with Yelena and Taskmaster is that he was mind controlled and is now a hero, but it’s a very different situation. Yelena and Taskmaster were from birth raised as assassins, even if they’re reformed and free now, the only thing they have experienced and been taught is violence, they have a rougher edge, they’re very much morally grey because of it. Bucky on the other hand, lived a normal life until he was nearly 30 years old. He was grown man when hydra took him. In those 30 years, he developed a strong moral compass and I’d say it’s close to that of Steve’s. Take Hawkeye as an example, even though Yelena is a good guy now, she was still perfectly fine with killing Clint because she viewed him as a bad person. She’s not afraid to kill someone if she deems it necessary. Bucky, on the other hand would not do that. He consistently talks about how he doesn’t want to kill or severely hurt anyone, whether they’re a villain or not. And in TFATWS, he even pulls his punches. Also he doesn’t kill Zemo when he has the opportunity, Yelena (and definitely any other team member) would have. That’s a big part of where the difference lies and how they’re not following what’s been established for his character.
- Also it’s claimed that Bucky is supposed to be the leader of the team which is another thing that’s out of character. For one, he’d never willingly join this team and lead it. Basically the only way is if he was forced by conditions of his pardon. Two, he doesn’t have the leadership skills, he’s not a natural leader, he’s always preferred to be the side kick and let someone else take the lead. Three, there’s no way in hell he could actually manage that team and get any one of them to respect him and follow his authority. I’m sorry but they would absolutely all brush him off as a joke. Even TFATWS, John Walker uses Bucky as a damn doormat yet I’m expect to believe he and other people like him will listen to what Bucky says? No.
For your sake, this is all and this is the simplified version of my thoughts because I don’t wanna make this longer than it already is. But yeah, I don’t know if you’ll disagree with me, but I think this is just a damn mess of a movie that either needs to be entirely scrapped or be revised top to bottom.

One , why did I pick this character?
I don't know; guess I'm a little fucked up. Kidding. Maybe? I like Bullseye because he's a sociopath without any excuses. Like, yeah, he had a shitty mom and dad, but his brain was probably scrambled from the moment he was born. There's no sob story here. He's evil, and that's that. No redemption arc to be hand. I like both his MCU and comic counterparts, but I really like his comic side because he's just absurdly deranged, funny, and human?? Unlike Hawkeye who trained to be a good archer, it seems Bullseye has always been innately and inhumanly good at hitting his targets with any objects. It's really cool. I like writing my heroes and I like writing my villians, and Bullseye really hits the spot for crazy. Adding to this — I think (most) people are drawn to villains as long as they have an attractive quality to them. "Yes, he's a serial killer, but he had a sad childhood." "Yes, he's a killer, but he's hot." Bullseye has no redeeming qualities nor should he. Wilson Bethel as great as he is at Benjamin is way too attractive. At the core, Bullseye is a villain's villain. Dreadful but fun, not handsome nor brooding.
Twelve , most unique trait about Bullseye?
Touched upon this in the previous answer, but he's stupidly insane with his accuracy. One of my favourite quotes from him is, "I'm Bullseye. In my hands, anything is a weapon." and that is a fact. You don't see it that much in MCU, but this man can literally kill people with a paperclip. As far as we know he's human, yet he has godly, demi-god, mutant-like powers. One of my favorite comic panels is a scene where's he's in an office, flicking paperclips outside the window, and it's just utter chaos.
Sixteen , personal ship biases for Bullseye.
Hmmmmm. SO, I don't think anyone in the right mind should be with Bullseye. There are plenty of people in their wrong mind, certainly. Bullseye has gotten laid in the comics which is just . . a trip. I really cannot imagine he'd be any good in bed; he's likely very selfish and sadistic. Daken and Bullseye would be really interesting to explore; I kinda dig it in a very weird manner. MCU wise however, he'll probably die a virgin. I do like Benjamin and Karen Page, but it's definitely more on the humor/creepy side of things as opposed to anything real.
Eighteen , how long have I been writing as Bullseye?
Good question. I've written as so many Marvel characters on and off for many years on different sites. As far as my memory serves, not very long. I wrote as Bullseye on my former blog, but it was only for a fraction of the time I had the blog. Few months I guess? Half a year? Fun thing about Bullseye is that I don't need years to develop him. He's a fucking psycho. I've had a good handle on him from day one because I read his comics years before writing him. We'll see what the new Daredevil uncovers and see if I modify my MCU portrayal any!

Thoughts on Bruce Banner in She-Hulk
Thank you @themarysuep for inspiring me to write this out!
I’ve had a few discussions about this, since he’s one of my favorite characters of all time, but I decided to write out my thoughts on how Bruce is written in She-Hulk. My overall thoughts are: not very well.
I’ll start with the things I like, starting with the first episode. It was nice seeing a glimpse of his life in the five years after the Snap, seeing his lab and home. The fact that he lives on an island by himself makes a lot of sense to me, both Bruce and Hulk are the type of people to enjoy quiet and solitude. It seems like they’re trying to undo some of the things in Endgame, like the idea that Bruce became this celebrity/public figure, which never made sense to me.
Getting this out of the way: I personally like Professor/Smart Hulk, I just wish we had more time with it and that it didn’t happen off-screen. He’s happy, he deserves to be.
Bruce talking about his integration, and the fact that Tony gave him this place, helped with the process, and was a friend for all those years (the Scott Lang book mentions that Tony is the only person who visited him on the island) was great to see. I think they really show that Bruce is now a combination of himself and the Hulk better than Endgame.
Something that really interested me was the use of one of his character strengths as a flaw: his empathy. Bruce legitimately wanted to help Jen with her new situation, and didn’t want her to feel alone like he did. However, it was through his own trauma of being feared that caused him to start projecting his wants onto her.
I think it’s really cool Bruce has a spaceship now, that seems like a pretty fun direction for him to go in, having adventures in the cosmos and the excitement of learning more about the universe.
And now for the bad…
A few scenes definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t personally like the idea of Bruce drinking, considering his father in the comics was an alcoholic and that would put him at a very high risk of becoming one himself. It’s seen as a good thing that he and Jen can drink copious amounts of alcohol. With that note, the MCU continued to erase his childhood which is integral to the Hulk.
(However, I do recognize that this is Jen's show!)
I definitely didn’t like when he flat-out told Jen that she had an obligation to be a superhero now that she has powers. That is the very last thing he wanted, to be an Avenger and for his abilities to be exploited by organizations in power. It would have been better if he just warned her not to use her new powers selfishly or irresponsibly.
I don’t really mind Bruce having a sense of humor, but I don’t like the type of humor they gave him from Ragnarok on, where he acts very clueless and it definitely shows here too. In Avengers and Age of Ultron, he was pretty sardonic and deadpan, and cut people down with words alone; It really fit his character. Here, he’s still the same as well as a goofy prankster for some reason, something he never really did.
You could argue he’s like this since he’s around family, but they barely give us any indication whether Bruce and Jen are even that close. They’re 20+ years apart in age, they weren’t really raised together, and it’s not really mentioned what his relationship with the rest of the family is like other than seemingly positive. He’s been gone for years either on the run, as an Avenger, in space, or trying to improve himself.
And finally, the finale, where Bruce reveals that he had a son while he was on Sakaar. That came out of nowhere and makes absolutely no sense. In Ragnarok, Hulk was just the Grandmaster’s champion, he lived alone, his only real friend there was Valkyrie. Also, his only focus was on fighting, avoiding calming situations so that Bruce wouldn’t be able to come back.
(Forgive me for oversimplifying things or getting details wrong about the comics, I'm trying to summarize to the best of my ability.)
In the Planet Hulk comics, the Hulk alter isn’t Savage Hulk like in the MCU (who is more or less mentally a child), he’s a different one called Green Scar and his time on Sakaar is dramatically different. He does become a gladiator, but forms a group called the Warbound and basically overthrows the leader of Sakaar. There’s a developed story between him and Caiera the Oldstrong, his wife and the mother of Skaar.
But none of that exists, and the reveal in the show just seems like a throwaway reference. I would have been happy with a more simple, mundane explanation of why he was gone the whole series, even no explanation would have been fine (another story for another time?)
An overwhelming amount of fans want World War Hulk to be adapted, but I think with the way that they adapted Planet Hulk (which WWH is a sequel to) it would be nearly impossible. He has a reason to go all Worldbreaker in the comic. Basically, the ship that Hulk was sent to Sakaar with blew up the entire planet, destroyed his home, and killed his pregnant wife.
In the MCU, Bruce is definitely going through hardships (losing two of closest friends and being apart from another, figuring out his place in the world besides being an Avenger, navigating the post-Blip world), but he seems to be pretty well-adjusted. He’s accepted after years of people being afraid of him, he has a loving, supportive extended family, he does have a few friends left out there and is making some new connections.
I’m not exactly sure what they’re planning for Bruce next or what exactly I would want to see next, but I’m not completely happy with this current direction they’re going in.

I agree that the Wanda hate feels very disingenuous and not made in good faith. Hell, I think Wanda is harder to hate vs other characters in fiction in general, including characters people suck off like Homelander.
Wanda is a character that I view as a kind character. Someone who has a view on herself akin to Rocket, aka hating herself and doesn’t view herself as a good person, but she has done selfless things throughout her life. It’s like people only view her as the government in the MCU view her and I don’t think that’s fair, but more importantly, it’s also not even a good way to look at her and her character.
Idk, point is I really love her, and I really wish people would actually talk about her character in good faith.
me too, I wish people would just see how interesting her character is,
I think one of the reasons that there are so many 'Wanda hate' ....is because she's a woman, I know they wouldn't admit it, and they are always going to say that it's she's because 'she's poorly written'...well she's kinda is after Wandavision....(Also saying them her in Dsmom don't make sense is kinda not true at all like sure her villain arc is rushed but where her anger is not hard to understand)
you can tell they didn't care about the writing either because that doesn't stop from loving badly written male character before
Wanda Maximoff have everything they would like to a character, if she was a man, they would be all over her by now, but since she's not they so "can't relate to her" or "she wasn't cool enough"
I once see a post on TikTok making edits about characters with "aura" or whatever trend thing is trending there and all of the boys in the comments are whining about her being included....
Like I don't understand how in hell somebody could think that someone like Homelander or the joker to be better than Wanda? Oh wait because they think those characters is 'cool' and have a "valid or cool reason to be villain" and is "well written" ... totally not because they project their horrible "sigma" or whatever fantasy to these characters....
And they always use the reason that 'Wanda stans' are annoying... but most of them are literally just defending Wanda's "crimes" which is fine because she's a fictional character, or is saying she's the most powerful avenger...which she is...Feige himself said so....and they don't like it
Like it's fine to hate on mcu's version of Wanda Maximoff if it's because of the casting choice... it's understand to be upset about that...or you understand the character but you simply don't like her? That's fine....but come on if the hate is simply because it's a 'trend' or because you're upset about a female character being stronger than a man....then 😐😐😐
Sometimes I feel like the "Wanda hate" is more annoying than Wanda stans...like a fan could literally be talking about Wanda like a regular fan and somebody is always going to fucking whine... that's why I left twitter I can't even post about Wanda without some asshole replying or quoting it....you couldn't watch a viral Wanda edit on TikTok without a manbabies talking about how a [random male character from another popular media] is better...they were always so fucking upset...like it's so obvious that its not because of anything she did or the casting problem and it's just annoying you can't do anything to defend Wanda against these freaks either because if you sounds to agressive you're now apparently a "toxic Wanda stan"...like omg toxic toxic toxic...all of this started because since WV ended these people couldn't stand that Wanda is someone that is powerful I swear the strongest avenger debates is hilarious in earlier days but God after that "you surpass the sorcerer supreme" line thingy [if I remember it correctly] in WV drop I feel like that's where all hell Break loose...and then it got worse pre and post dsmom,....like obviously Wanda stans are you going defend Wanda... that's our favorite character....and it's a normal thing in a fandom.... I don't understand why these people are upset other than misogyny....
It's so obvious...like you don't have the right to talk how 'horrible' Wanda's action were....if the character that you like is someone that is worse... like
And also I hate how people downgrade Wanda's reason on being a villain....like they always say how her motives "weren't enough"... like they ignoring everything that happens to her on purpose...like what happens during her childhood are literally a valid reason to be a villain and no idc if other people suffers more than her', different people process sadness and anger differently...this woman at the age of ten loss her parents in one of the worst way possible and probably did not get to chance to bury them properly and process her emotion at such a young age....and then her brother die years later and just like that she's alone all over again and everyone around acts like she's a walking time bomb that can explode any time, she's in a foreign country that she used to hate and is the same county that where the bombs that kills her parents come froms a country that worship the man that is literally the reason her parents died,...and then there is vision... somebody who is an outcast like her... I hate the fact that everybody treats vision like a sextoy shut up shut up no he isn't, that man is the only person in there that love Wanda truly....they understand each other and they were happy.... before Thanos ruins everything...and then boom their happiness is shattered and suddenly she have to kill the only man in the world that cares about her....she have no choice..she have to kill the only man in the world that loves her that understand her for people that don't care enough wether she lives or die,....God she was probably so happy when she got turned into dust.....and then she's back to life again...and she realizes she's alone again....
Wanda is literally a good person...she cares about people...she care about those who she hurts...
Because if she was somebody who is 'evil'
She wouldn't switch sides during AoU, she wouldn't cry during the Lagos incident, she wouldn't kill vision and would probably just escapes and she wouldn't let go of Westview....but she did all of that because she cares to much about the lives of people who don't even think about her....she just wants people to accept her...man like she just wants somebody to understand her...all of the stuff that happened in dsmom is because people treat her like shit
...she makes me so freaking sad I am sorry I am rambling with my bad English...I was just so upset that people downgrade Wanda's character....and I am glad other people get me

I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time, Silence. Don’t feel bad if you need to break or downsize muses - this is just a hobby, after all, and you need to do what’s best for you. We’ll all still be waiting when you get back. Bucky and I send our love :)
__________
{i am the caretaker of souls} Okay, but one of the muses I’ve lost inspiration for is Natasha, so you see my problem, heh. I don’t know what happened, she just went so quiet a while back. It’s not anything you did at all, so please don’t think that. Sometimes it just happens that muses leave the building, heh. For anyone who would like to know which muses would be on the chopping block across my blogs, I’ll talk a bit about it below the cut. Because I can. =P
But yeah, as far as Natasha, I’ve been trying to squeeze out some muse here and there and respond to what I can get her motivated for, but a lot of times I reach down into the muse well and it’s just dry. I do kindof look at all my asks each week, though, to see if anything grabs the muse, and if it does, I work on it, because I do feel bad that you’ve sent in so many things that I just haven’t been able to reply to. So I’ll keep trying here and there, and who knows, maybe she’ll come back fully at some point.
Veridian on this blog has gone quiet for a long time now, and I’m sure if I look at my list, there are others who have zero activity that I can cut just to mentally downsize things. It’d be easy to cut Ardeth, Luther, and Vincent, because my activity there is fairly low, but I adore all of the threads I have with @illbringthechaosmagic and a few others, and I’m pretty sure I’m the only person actively writing those three characters on T.umb.lr so I’d like to keep doing so. Kindof a labor of love, you know? So at least right now, they’re not going anywhere.
As far as MCU muses, I think I have the same problem with Natasha, Wanda, Clint, Vision, and Pietro right now lack of new content. I really get inspired by new content, it helps to revive things for me a bit, so when there isn’t any in years, I feel like my muses get stale. I know I could read comics if I wanted to, but honestly I just don’t have the time right now, or the brain to then sort out the differences between MCU and comic versions and choose what my interpretation will then be.
Pietro was really waning there for a while, but he got saved by the “Speedster of the Galaxy” AU because that to me was like new content, heh. It was just content that me and Mantis-mun and others were creating and contributing to instead of official content, which is fine, it’s great! That’s what we’re here for! Plus I love his ship with @starcchild, and that overlaps with my Tony muse here, which is still going strong. So Pietro is safe for now. XD
Wanda… my muse comes and goes for her but lately it just hasn’t been there. I adored DSMoM, but 99% of people I write with didn’t, and I think the negative backlash from the fandom regarding that movie kindof… tempered my muse a bit. Because I felt like I had to hold back or not talk about it or write about it, when I really wanted to. I was excited and inspired to go in all these new directions with Wanda, only to then still be writing during the same points in her timeline that I had been for a few years already. So that’s what’s been preventing my muse for her from really taking off. Anything that I can really get into or that feels new in an exciting way, I’ll jump on it, but lately I’ve been struggling with her. I do love the threads I have with @illbringthechaosmagic and @multiversalstarlight on Wanda’s blog, though, so that’s helped sustain her for a while.
Clint here on this blog… only has one thread right now, and that’s just fine with me, heh. If not for that one thread, he’d be cut. I still haven’t watched the Hawkeye series, mainly because I lost interest, so that gives you an idea of how long my muse for him has been waning. But the one thread I have with @sadiebrin is very cool and I can manage to squeeze out one thread a week with Clint for that. XD
I would love to bring back Red and White Vision, since they’ve been on hiatus for a few months now due to a lack of muse. I feel like it’s been enough of a break and I could maybe get back into them, but… no time, unfortunately. I’d need to cut some other muses that are taking up a lot of time in order to make time for Vision, and I just don’t see that happening. Maybe if I put Wanda on hiatus for a bit, but Pietro’s activity is really high and they’re all on the same day, so… who knows.
I have been toying with the idea of having an MCU multimuse and putting ALL my MCU muses on there, so that if I didn’t have muse for someone on that day, then I could skip them in favor of working on someone I did, but at this point, they’re so established on their own blogs and here on this one that I just feel like… it’d scatter and mess up where all my shit it stored, heh. I have issues with organization and how I think of things as far as what feels neat and calm and organized to me, heh, and that would drive me crazy to have things split everywhere. But on the other hand, it would really help to lump all my MCU people together on one blog.
Question: If I made another side blog mumu for just MCU people, put them all there, and wrote for them on hmm… probably Mondays, and then removed the MCU muses from this blog and wrote all non-MCU people here… what do you think of that? Would you guys like that, hate that, you don’t care…? I’m not asking you to make the decision for me, I’m just curious. I’m a little worried that a new blog might attract more attention and interaction, though, and I really can’t expand my writing partners too much right now, I’ve got enough on my plate. I guess I could just say something like “closed for new partners” or something, I dunno. Thoughts?
Imma stop rambling now omg. Actually ranting about all this helped release some stress and distract me for a while, so that was good, haha. Anyone who’s read this far, thank you, you’re the best. XD

i'm slowly catching up on the mcu....
(thoughts and opinions of someone who is not, and probably will never be, a comic enthusiast, a film major, or cgi specialist below the cut.)
so. i have heard and read nothing but votriol for just about everything after end game. maybe it was the classic fandom progression where everything gets turned into a cesspool (either the fandom survives and becomes good again, or everything implodes and only incels and tarpits remain). i don't really know because i left fandom spaces for like 3 years, but that's a whole different story.
i dropped off after end game, i'm just barely catching up, so i don't know how a lot of everything else turned out. i've liked the multiverse movies i've seen so far (shang-chi, eternals, multiverse of madness, quantumania). they're not masterpieces, but they're good movies. (please remember that this is my opinion and i'm not an expert on anything except myself. the block button and i are best friends.)
despite starting the movie several times, i can never seem to finish wakanda forever. it just feels... sad. without chadwick boseman. don't get me wrong, the movie is interesting, and i love shuri and wakanda. it just doesn't feel right that chadwick isn't there. call it parasocial or whatever, but idk. when black panther first came out, it was compelling. i fell in love with the story of the mcu all over again, and this character specifically. call it parasocial or whatever. idk. i just can't finish the movie.
i really liked shang-chi, i thought it was an interesting movie and it was very pretty in the special effects/cgi department. i liked the story, and while i wasn't completely blown away by the lovie, i did enjoy it a lot. probably my current favorite of the post endgame movies.
eternals was... well, i didn't much care for it either way. it felt strange and lonely, but i think any movie would feel strange and lonely if it happens in a preexisting universe, and is effecting the whole globe, and yet only a certain set of super powered people show up to help.
multiverse of madness was interesting to me. we got to see two preestablished characters who have never interacted collide in a way that doesnt really happen in marvel movies. it wasn't a crossover of any sort (not like venom in no way home or deadpool's fourth wall references) but it was cool. i haven't seen wandavision (i'm television adversed for the most part, honestly. watching movies is like pulling teeth for me, and focusing on a tv show is worse. to me, the tv is for background noise so i don't go insane.) so i'm missing pieces of background for that, i'm sure. something something wanda wanted kids and so she'd destroy the world to have that or whatever. (i'll watch wandavision eventually) i sympathize with craving a life ripped away from you by circumstances out of your control, and i found myself in tears at that one scene, when the kids are terrified of her.
quantumania was a whole other thing. they're setting up the big bad of the arc. like they did with phase one. those little touches of thanos in the end credits, ths machinations of a monster much bigger than them. this is just a step up, a mulitversal problem rather than an in universe one. they did (*imo*) a great job taking this step through by including the slow build to it. the hints of the quantum in phase one movies has lended itself greatly to the build up of this phase.
quantunmania itself was mid. i didn't hate it, i didn't love it. it was interesting to see the probability storm. i think it says great deal about scott as a person that even when he is split into hundreds of millions of versions of himself, his focus will always be cassie. that's a dad if i've ever seen one. it was also an interesting read of hope, as well, that she came all together to help scott and even though the scotts all helped og scott, they only came together when hope arrived. (the metaphor was like a bright red circle in a youtube thumb nail.) also, i loved the ant mimicry in thay scene. and the ants! the ants were probably my favorite part.
end game was a unique film, with countless hours of work from a HUGE cast and crew put into it. blood, sweat, and tears went into that movie. it's a cgi wet dream. it tied up loose end after loose end, sweeping the plot bunnies together in a neat 3 hour long package. i could wax poetically about end game for 3 hours at least. anway. the point of all this is that these movies are fine. they're not end game levels, but i don't think anything will ever live up to end game. maybe i'm wrong, we shall see. maybe i'm stuck in the past. maybe i'm missing a humongous chunk of context bc i haven't been keeping up with the news surrounding marvel. idk. i'm gonna keep enjoying what i enjoy, and despite it's flaws, i do enjoy marvel.
