ive definitely talked abt this before, but i literally cannot relate to the posts that are like "ohhh you guys ship them romantically when theyre soo much more interesting as friends". i contain multitudes. i think they are best friends. i think they are lovers. i think they are soulmates in a way that cant be categorised. these statements dont conflict.

Thinking about the nightmare 90s!Tim has in YJ01...

Tim's kneeling on the sidewalk, gawking in horror at his hand. His wrist is wrapped with bandages, and his hand has been replaced with a batarang.

His actual hand, glove, and all have fallen off, swarmed by the killer cockroaches of Gotham's streets.

Young Justice 1998 01

Idk, I can't stop thinking about how part of him is replaced with something Batman made, honed, and curated for efficiency and vigilanteism.

A part of Tim is just laying there... swarmed and consumed by the unkillable vermin of Gotham streets.

Here it is again; Tim's fear of slowly becoming someone that he isn't. Becoming a tool and a weapon, less human and more machine.

And then there's Batman in this nightmare. Standing tall, ready to move on... nonchalantly asking Tim to grow a beard so he can make a personal use of his shiny new appendage.

But it's the,

Don't worry, Robin... No one will notice.

that's just smacking me across the face.

A part of Tim is dead and gone, but dont worry, kid! No one's gonna care enough to notice! (This is not a dig towards Tim's parents btw. Ill talk abt the Drakes in a different post.)

Batman brushes off Tim's horror—when lil bro's literally choking with horror—with an assurance that everything that Tim's afraid of will come true and, hey! it isnt a big deal.

Of course, this is Tim's nightmare view of Batman and not a characterization on Bruce, but it's just another example of how Tim sees Batman as a symbol that has consumed Bruce. (So, also not a dig towards Bruce, btw. He gets his own post later, too)

Since Tim's first few appearances, he's been terrified of becoming consumed by justice (?), vengeance, and vigilanteism.

Between his visceral fear at the comfort/hug from Bruce when his mom died, to a different nightmare featuring nightwing, to this nightmare, to rejecting comfort from Bruce at Steph's funeral, to hating Robin and himself after his father's death, and faking an uncle to get away from Batman??

It just shows how terrified he is of becoming someone he isnt...

And this nightmare in particular adds this: he's afraid no one will notice.

It makes sense how his attempts to try and prevent the erasure of who he is would slowly escalate with every death. And with so many other heroes just... coming back... and coming back the same or even "close enough"?

It's easy to reach the point of rejecting death entirely. (am i side eyeing people who compare his reactions to certain people's death as a valid measure to who's more important to him? Maybe. Thats a different post tho)

Anyway. Fast forward like 3ish years later...

Sonic the Hedgehog

With a surge of emotion and a hint of courage, the blue blur is on the scene! His name is Sonic, the new hedgehog making a scene on Christmas Island who's making his mark out of thin air. If Nicky is docile, quiet, and bookish, then Sonic is the exact opposite. He can be loud, impatient, and has quite a temper with people he can’t stand or things that provoke him. While taking the "hero" business kind of seriously when trouble's afoot, he is a total child by heart. But, just where in the heck did he come from?! Just...WHO is he?

Age: Unknown, but in appearance looks like a teenager.

Birthplace: Unknown

Likes: Showing off his skills, throwing himself into danger for thrills (In the time that he has), being really curious about…a lot of things

Abilities: Can run at supersonic speeds in a second, can also use said supersonic speed as a weapon by curling up into a ball and knocking himself into his foes

Sonic is an interesting one I wanted to redesign because initially, I had him looking just like his actual classic appearance in the games, but then I decided to make this iteration more personalized, like a dichotomy to Nicky. So I gave him a slightly sportier look and as well as changing his eyes a little for story reasons I can't get into yet, sorry!

The Curator. Her name is Gloria Beatrix. [Achromatic Loop AU]

She can summon close-ranged weapons [preferably daggers] using her blood as an offering to the tattoo of three crows on her skin. The Crows will give her a fraction of its power in return.

The tattoo can move anywhere on her body but is usually seen on her neck or chest.

She doesn't physically show up in the story until way later in the timeline.

Eddie: *always putting a grounding hand on Buck's shoulder when Buck needs it, and using his Point-y Finger when he wants Buck to focus and know He Means Business*

Eddie, lost in grief and needing Buck's support and knowing Buck needs his, but Buck isn't there asking the prodding questions he always does to get Eddie to open up, and Eddie is about to lose it: *does the same thing as always just in combination and a little more intense in his grief, because he NEEDS Buck to Listen and Understand and grieve WITH him*

Now, it's not like I'm going out of my way to search for Kate Kane content and coming up empty-handed, but her relative lack of presence on DC Tumblr is pretty notable considering how impossible it is to escape the Batfamily here

statistically, that means there are probably some "fans" of the bats who are completely unaware that Batman has a butch lesbian cousin bc their knowledge of Gotham's vigilantes begins and ends with fanfics that only acknowledge Bruce and his kids

Meet The Curator!

Here’s my take on The Curator’s human form!

The Curator was the first to befriend a ‘human’ (Stanley being some odd Demi-human) and to create a human form. Her associate with Mariella began completely on accident. Despite her wariness of interacting with people, her curiosity and thirst for information led her to creating her human form and walking amongst people. She chose to make her form taller, older, and stern looking to be less approachable to people so she could walk around in peace. She spent most of her time on earth in museums, learning about how humanity cataloged and viewed their history. Due to being around to witness some events from a distance, she could provide details around the way certain events occurred, which she would talk about with fellow museum guests. This with her appearance led to people thinking she was an actual museum employee wherever she showed up.

Mariella is a manager at one of the museums The Curator frequents, and when it became clear that she was not an employee and was somehow getting into the museum without paying or seemingly even walking into the museum, she became invested in trying to figure out who ‘The Lady in Blue’ was and how she keeps getting in. Mariella eventually encounters The Curator, and calls out to her, and The Curator panics and runs off. Mariella follows, but loses her. This happens a few more times until Mariella finally sees The Curator move through a door in a section of the museum she didn’t recognize and chases her through it. Mariella catches up and asks The Curator who she is and how she keeps getting in. Curator freezes because she’s never been fully grabbed by a person before, and Mariella tries to reassure her that she’s not in too much trouble. Curator pops out of her human form which causes Mariella to panic and try to leave, which causes Curator to panic and close off the exit between earth and the small pocket sandbox she’s made into a museum, causing Mariella to panic more. Curator pops back into her human form and helps Mariella calm down. They have a long conversation over what The Curator is and what this place was, she lets Mariella go with the promise she won’t tell anyone anything about The Curator and to leave her be. Mariella does so, but curiosity towards The Curator leads her to track her down again with the goal of befriending her. This begins a friendship where they share information about their kinds, and then about themselves.

With the information Mariella provides, The Curator makes an immersive museum experience that she offers to allow Mariella to run through. This begins their version of the parable they call ‘Mariella’s Fable’. The Curators stories are more education oriented rather than a meta comedy, and are much more relaxing, though she eventually takes a page out of her brother’s book and uses dry wit to spice things up. Mariella helped her choose the name Carol, while she would take Torrent as her last name later on. Her view of buckets as objects that deserve immense respect is sort of a joke, but her initial curiosity with humanity came with her initial observation of humans usage of tools, and specifically buckets.

Tumblr, Twitter (X?) bluesky? Something else?

I think I'm going to have to go with tumblr, and it's not just because we're here. Twitter and Bluesky are nice and my experiences on both are overwhelmingly positive. But tumblr has an atmosphere that encourages originality, sharing your creations and talking about things in depth.
