I had a dream about a critically acclaimed game that starts as 100% a detective game and transitions completely into a romance game.

You play an incredibly skilled detective investigating the murder of a person you've never met. Youre able to piece together scenes, events, and thought processes with immaculate accuracy.

Over the course of the game you find clues and learn more about the victim, their life, and who they were as a person. You, as the detective, fall in love.

You start learning how they acted, what they liked, and through your excellent detective skills can vividly picture them alive. You learn the story of their life, and become too infatuated with them to solve the murder.

The detective starts imagining romance scenes with the victim. If you screw up a dialog option with them, the detective will roll back the fantasy with a "hmm, that's not how it'd go". You trap yourself in a mental timeloop of romantic dialog, perfecting the conversation while you shower, and figure out exactly the words you would say.

As the game progresses, you learn more about them, and details of their life, and the imagined visage of the victim sharpens and evolves. You grow closer.

The great tragedy is that the romance could never fail, as it takes place in the mind of a detective who is steadily going insane. Instead of mourning the loss, they become alive. The game ends with reality and fiction blurring together, becoming inseperable. In one ending, you find the murderer and take out your longing and frustration; an eye for an eye. In another, you put yourself under the knife to finally be with your love.

Now for my two cents on the drama that ensued among the Linkin Park Community.

Additionally, this statement is intended to be read with an open mind and I may be wrong at such details. Any corrections with hard evidence is appreciated. Updates to the situation will be made via reblogs.

Like many LP fans, I was happy that there was a new Linkin Park album in the works and was amazed by Emily Armstrong's vocals in the latest track. However, this news came with some awful drama.

Let's discuss the basics. From Zero will be the first Linkin Park album with newly recorded material in seven years following No More Light, the last album to be recorded prior to Chester Bennington's suicide. To receive news about a truly new album and a new vocalist is enough to excite the LP fandom.

The new vocalist for Linkin Park is Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara. When The Emptiness Machine dropped as the newest single, the controversies of Armstrong's past reared its ugly head and caused a divide in the fandom. Namely, Armstrong was outed as a Scientologist and a supporter of Danny Masterson. Cue many fans being upset, especially detractors of the new direction of Linkin Park going forward.

Armstrong hasn't discussed her views since 2013 and she has recently posted a statement on her involvement with Danny Masterson during the court hearings he was going through. She has stated that she has no longer supported Masterson following him being found guilty of rape and made an Instagram Story of her clearing the air. The hearing she attended to was in 2020. The statement below can be interpreted has her apology for this.

As for her past as a Scientologist, she's a Second Generation Scientologist (meaning she had no say in her being part of the Church of Scientology whatsoever, let alone a religion of people who hate anything negative statements about them) and was called out by one of Masterson's victims. Again, Armstrong hasn't said anything about it since 2013. Scientologists can leave their faith, but it is difficult to do so and there are several restrictions placed by the Church. (Again, they HATE criticism and negative publicity of any kind)

Scientologists tend to ignore the topic of mental health. Many fans were pissed at such a damning revelation and believed that Chester would be upset over this.

Despite this, LP gave their support and Chester's wife, Talinda showed her support in Armstrong being the new vocalist.

As for the Masterson case, many of Masterson's former friends would logically want to see him as a good person, but have cut ties with him following his conviction (Armstrong herself stated that herself. I believe that she flubbed a spot check when her Insta reveals she stills follow Masterson, but dealing with the fallout of a friend being a monster comes with its own baggage). While some have said Armstrong was involved with a confrontation with a victim, there isn't any evidence to prove this.

The instance of Scientology requires a more realistic thought. The Church of Scientology has no problems making the lives of vocal ex-members a living hell with legal battles and frequent harassment. While we can assume Emily Armstrong herself is an ex-member, she can't be vocal about it without a massive shitstorm ensuing, especially if she's part of a band that has several songs dealing with mental health, something that Scientologists actively ignore. Many ex-members have resorted to sneaking out of the Church or even Scientology as a whole in the trunk of a car. Even if Armstrong seems to be in a place to discuss her departure, she still won't be able to without the ire of her former faith. If you analyze the lyrics of The Emptiness Machine, they deal with leaving a toxic enviroment or a cult-like place. In Armstrong's case, it can be interpreted has her stating that she has left the Church without attracting a potential shitstorm, with the lyrics feeling appropriate for leaving such a place.

All in all, this is not how the new era of LP was supposed to go down, but the use of context and media literacy is how we can understand this situation going forward.

Rumor has it that the Riley family is cursed. First, their youngest son, kidnapped under mysterious circumstances. The nephew? Hit by a motorcycle that just happened to roll off the road. The oldest and his wife? Crashed into a tree that was in the middle of the asphalt. The father? Murdered in his hospital bed. The mother? Overdosed on pills she'd never had.

Task Force 141 knows the rumors. Who in the UK doesn't? One day, 141 is sent out to help a team in Las Almas called Los Vaqueros. Apparently, the Las Almas cartel is having a territory dispute with the neighboring city's cartel, the Zaragoza cartel. While Los Vaqueros is handling the Las Almas cartel with Gaz and Roach's help, Price and Soap go to handle the Zaragoza cartel. They go undercover, and discover someone with brown eyes and blond lashes, wearing a balaclava, being passed around like many of the blunts in that room.

Soap manages to get his hands on this person, who's clearly out of it. After some finagling, he manages to get them outside, wrapping them in his coat to provide them with some decency.

When they wake up, they're in a bed in the Los Vaqueros base. Soap asks them for their name and pronouns, and he introduces himself as Ghost.

[He passes a broad palm over his face.]

What was the point of any of this? Viktor’s the one who always knows what we need to do. How to help people. If I didn’t have him, I wouldn’t have—I couldn’t have gotten down off that ledge. I still can’t…

[He exhales, blinking glassily at the Hexcore.]

Alright, time to complain about Persona 5 Royal again! Spoilers beneath the break, it's mostly Ann Takamaki stuff. Specifically a romance scene I thought was awful.

So I got Ann to Confidant rank 9, and she's a romance option, and I thought "you know what, sure". It comes after you've talked to Ann's friend Shiho, who is up on the rooftop. Shiho, for context, is Ann's friend who attempted suicide and then went through some rehab and transferred schools. This was part of a plotline where a teacher/coach was trying to pressure Ann into sex. They have a little goodbye on the rooftop, and then you're alone with her. She says "guess I'm all alone" and you get a choice of saying "you have the team" or "you have me". They give you a "you should choose your words carefully" to let you know this is serious business.

So I picked the romance option.

Joker goes up and hugs her, and she doesn't hug him back, but she says "I love you" and then he backs away and they talk for a little and she says "wow, didn't mean to say that, but you know what, I stand by it".

And then Joker goes up and kisses her, and this is her reaction:

And then it just says "I am now in a relationship with Ann" and there's a little level up notification. These are her next dialog lines:

I-I guess we're more than just friends now ... ... It's embarrassing.

And then she says "wait!" and you get this:

Then the screen goes black and it says "Ann and I spent some time together after she calmed down".

I hated this.

It felt like I'd failed some Charm check somewhere, or like I'd chosen the wrong option. If some girl I had just kissed for the first time said "Lemme go! Are you trying to kill me!?" I would assume that I had majorly fucked up somewhere, that I had just drastically misread the situation. This is a bad feeling.

And I think it would be a bad feeling even if we hadn't just had a conversation with Shiho, but in that light, it's much worse, isn't it? This is a girl who, yes, says that she's in love with Joker, but there's not much indication that this kiss is something she wanted, and a few indications that it's something she didn't want. "I love you but I don't want to kiss you just yet" is something that I think is perfectly understandable, and it's hard for me to find the different reading.

What I think they were going for was that Ann is just deeply embarrassed about the whole "being in love" thing and worked up about the flood of emotions or something. She does want to be kissed, but it's embarrassing to admit that, or something. I don't know, it's also very possible that something was lost in translation.

There's also something in the blocking of this scene that I don't like, where Joker is facing away from the camera, standing slightly in front of Ann. I think they probably did this to save on animation budget, because making two characters kiss isn't trivial, but it definitely gives the impression that Joker is like ... advancing on her. And maybe this is the same reason she doesn't hug him back. But it makes everything more weird and gross than it needed to be.

And there's also something in the integration of game mechanics that's also kind of horrifying, not the Confidant level up screen, but the way that Joker's thoughts are presented in thought bubble form, like "I am in a relationship with Ann now" is ... true, but robot speak, betraying an utter lack of emotion. Which is sort of how Joker is written, because he's a blank slate protagonist, but here I really felt it, in a highly negative way.

I've heard that the romance options in general don't tie into the game all that much, there's not too much extra dialog and it doesn't alter a lot of the scenes even when people feel like it should. I take people at their word when they say this, at least until I can see it with my own eyes. But this means that in terms of the romance option stuff, this is one of very time times there's a scene for it, and this was what they went with.
