Google Launches AI Anti-Theft Feature for Android Phones in Brazil
Tumblr media
Alphabet’s Google will launch a new AI-powered anti-theft feature for Android phones in Brazil, the first country to test this technology, aiming to reduce phone theft rates in a country where nearly one million phones were stolen last year.
Google, the tech giant under Alphabet Inc., made a groundbreaking announcement. Brazil, a country plagued by high phone theft rates, will be the first to test a new anti-theft feature for Android phones using artificial intelligence (AI). This innovative technology, a significant step in the fight against phone theft, automatically locks the device’s screen when a phone has been stolen, thereby enhancing security for users.
The initiative is part of Google’s broader strategy to leverage AI to address real-world problems. Starting in July, the anti-theft feature will initially be available to Brazilian users of Android phones running version 10 or higher. According to the company, this phased rollout will eventually extend to other countries over the year.
The new anti-theft feature, powered by AI, operates through three types of locks. The first lock utilizes AI to identify movements typically associated with theft, such as sudden, rapid movements that suggest snatching or running. Once these movements are detected, the feature automatically locks the screen, rendering the phone unusable to the thief. The AI model has been trained to recognize specific patterns that indicate a theft, enabling it to provide an immediate response to protect the user’s data.

Entry 2:
“Crescendo in Cyberspace: Understanding the Melody of Data Privacy and the Rising Value of Intangible Data”
With regard to data privacy, it pertains to how an individual’s data is collected, utilized and maintained in accordance with relevant privacy laws and regulations. It involves the correct handling, processing, storage and usage of personal information. It is only concerned about people’s freedom with their own information.
On a different light, data security protects personal data from unauthorized third-party access, hacking attacks or any use that exploits its privacy. This is meant to protect personal data by using diverse methods and techniques that ensure its confidentiality. In addition to this, Data security ensures that integrity of the data which means that the information must be accurate and reliable as well as be available when required for authorized individuals.
Briefly speaking, Data Privacy is about how one collects uses upholds drops retains and stores the details appropriately. On the other hand, Policies Techniques Used in Securing Personal Data. The two can exist without each other but not vice versa. For example, you cannot have data privacy without first having data security.
Now in the age of digital data, information has become a valuable commodity. It is commonly said that data is the new oil. However, why is data preferred to physical properties?
To start with, consumer behavior insights are provided by data which is vital to businesses. Facebook and Google among other companies make billions through it in terms of advertisements. Platform companies and data-aggregators sell individualized data to advertisement networks as well as marketers seeking to reach specific segments, affect purchasing decisions and set dynamic prices.
Again, decision-making processes necessitate having reliable data. Governments are getting increasingly data-driven and leveraging open government data to improve citizens’ quality of life through better designed targeted welfare schemes, evidence-based policy making and more participatory governance.
Moreover, the potential for misuse also shows the value associated with such information. Data thieves usually steal personal information so that they can vend it on dark web. An identity thief can expect to get ₱1,120 - ₱12,600.
Therefore, the specific worth of physical stuff is their tangibility, meanwhile the value of data comes from the power that it has to be used for making positive changes in businesses and much more. Furthermore, data can even be sold for monetary gain. In the process we are generating and sharing a large amount of data, understanding the importance of this data as well as ensure the data security is vital now.

on today's episode of "i only pay attention and pretend that i give two shits about the sanctity of human rights when there's a freaking Cheeto in the white house"
“While the administration should be lauded for its efforts to provide children and families access to the court system, its failure to ensure legal representation has produced a massive due process crisis,” said Talia Inlender, Deputy Director of the Center for Immigration Law and Policy (CILP) at the UCLA School of Law. “It should be obvious that immigration court proceedings are far too complex for children to navigate without legal representation, especially when the consequences are so dire. The Biden administration must take swift action to ensure legal representation for all children in immigration court.”
The report’s key findings include:
In a five-month period in FY 2022 alone, almost one third of immigration court cases initiated by the Biden administration–more than 80,000 in all–were against children, over 30,000 of whom were under the age of 5, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).
Studies show that unrepresented unaccompanied children are at least five times more likely to be ordered removed than children with access to counsel.
By the government’s own account, 44% of unaccompanied children and 51% of families on the Dedicated Docket lack legal representation.
The vast majority of removal orders entered against children are for failure to appear: Approximately 72% of removal orders against families on the Los Angeles and Boston Dedicated Dockets were issued in absentia, with over 48% against children, many under the age of six. Worse yet, 86% of removal orders issued against unaccompanied children were for failure to appear.
Immigration courts under the Biden administration ordered more than 13,000 unaccompanied children removed in absentia between Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023.
The report details how the Biden administration’s treatment of children in immigration court is unlawful, and calls on the Biden administration to: prohibit in absentia removal orders against unrepresented children; terminate the Dedicated Docket; and ensure legal representation for all unrepresented children in removal proceedings.
In handwritten cursive, a Russian immigrant named Marina wrote out the story of the day U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents took away her 1-year-old baby while she was being held in a detention facility in southern California. “I cried and begged, kneeling, not to do this, that this was a mistake, not justice and not right,” she wrote. “She was so little that no one knew anything about her. I was very afraid for her and still am!” This didn’t happen during the Trump administration, which separated more than 4,000 migrant children from their families under its controversial “zero tolerance” policy. Marina was separated from her baby in April of this year. The 40-year-old former restaurant manager came to the U.S.-Mexico border with her husband, mother-in-law and child to seek asylum. More than eight months later, she and her mother-in-law remain in federal immigration custody in Louisiana. Her husband is detained at a different Louisiana immigration facility. And Aleksandra is over a thousand miles away, being cared for by strangers in foster care in California. Aleksandra is one of around 300 children the Biden administration has separated from their parents or legal guardians this year, according to two government sources who asked not to be identified because they hadn’t been authorized to speak about the separations. Most of the cases involved families crossing the southwestern border, the sources said. These numbers haven’t previously been reported. Similarly, 298 children were separated from their parents in 2023, according to a government report to Congress published on Tuesday, even as overall migrant crossings have declined. According to the report, the average amount of time children separated between April 2018 and October 2024 have spent in federal custody before being released to a sponsor is 75 days.
Biden responds to Bernie Sanders' immigration plan: "We shouldn't abolish ICE. We should reform the system. ICE is not the problem. The policies behind ICE are the problem, and that's easy enough to fix if the President knows what he or she is doing."
unfortunately Joe never got around to fixing the Gestapo agency but he tried his gosh darndest and he isn't Drumpf so i guess the pride in being an American was still secure at that point for most liberals. i'm sure that when the next charlatan says the same thing that they'll retain this energy, right? right??

Yeah okay so like I said in the tags of the last post I’m rising from my tumblr grave to say that the ban on TikTok is symptomatic of a MUCH larger and more terrifying problem. Because yes, on its surface it’s silly dances and asmr and cooking videos and whatever, but in truth and at its core, TikTok single-handedly revolutionized the way 170 million Americans communicated with each other AND the rest of the world. Non-Americans love to point out how America-centric Americans are, but fail to realize that we are purposefully raised in an isolated, insulated environment where we are told from basically day 1 that America Is The Best and not to even bother taking a look around because it’s all downhill from outside of here. TikTok has, for MANY Americans, single-handedly destroyed that notion and allowed them (us!!) to broaden our world-view and realize that actually, things are better in other countries, and it did so in a kind, empathetic, and compassionate way.
And yeah most people wake up to the truth of that on their own as they get older, but holy shit!! The VAST majority of the Americans on TikTok are millennials and gen z (and even some older gen alpha)!! People who are becoming disillusioned with “The American Dream” (said with the HEAVIEST sarcasm) while they’re still school-aged or are just entering young-adulthood!! People who are entering - or TRYING to enter - the American workforce who suddenly have an unfiltered window into non-American lives and are wondering why tf we’re struggling and penny-pinching and toeing the line of poverty while our rich elected officials sit around and fight and argue over everything that actually matters to the citizens they supposedly represent and get richer all the while. THAT is why they’re banning the app, and that fact alone should terrify every single American citizen.
Not to mention the precedent it sets for other social media platforms!! You think some nebulous, unproven, and unfounded “threat to national security” will stop with TikTok?? They’ve already censored Adult Material on tumblr, who’s gonna stop them from coming back and doing it again or getting rid of it altogether for the exact same reason? It’s a blatant act of censorship and a direct attack on the American first amendment right to free speech.
NOTHING radicalized me the way tiktok did. I watched people in my life who were STAUNCH Trump supporters in 2016 AND 2020 wake up to the truth and vote blue for the first time in their lives BECAUSE OF TIKTOK, and did so with al the nuanced understanding that even Democrats are severely failing this country, but are at least better than the alternative. That level of awareness and presence in the average US citizen scares American politicians.
The fact that the vast majority of them - including the ones loudly opposing the ban!! - bought stock in Meta BEFORE the ban was legalized/upheld by the Supreme Court?? That Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk were legally allowed to lobby congress to ban TikTok when BOTH stood to DIRECTLY financially gain from their biggest competitor being banned in the US and are guilty of unethically gathering data and selling it to MULTIPLE third parties?? The fact that Trump is now teasing that he may or may not intervene to save TikTok when he was the one who talked about banning it in the first place AND ALSO OWNS HIS OWN COMPETING SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM??
It’s the burning of Alexandria. It’s the loss of a significant chunk of culture. It’s the sharp and sudden loss of contact with the rest of the world for more than half of all American citizens. It’s the loss of $240 BILLION dollars in the GDP when the country is already TRILLIONS of dollars in debt. And on an individualistic level, it’s the loss of millions of small businesses and primary income streams for so many individuals and families who found their primary audience on TikTok. Is the app perfect? HELL no. Are there significant changes needed to make it a safe environment for all users? ABSOLUTELY. But that can also be said of ANY social media platform. TikTok openly fostered connection and communication and creativity and compassion that is completely unique to that platform! It made so many people - myself included!! - feel less alone. I get the feeling I know what the general consensus is about TikTok on this site, but the ban on this app should scare the shit out of everyone.

Help me and my family escape this raging war in order to survive.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I have been married to Amal Mahmoud for thirteen years, and we have four children: Sami, Mohammad, Sarah, and Saad. We are from Palestine, specifically the Gaza Strip, which has been under siege for over eighteen years.
Tumblr media
Now, we no longer have a home, and my family lives in a refugee school in the Al-Zaytoun area of northern Gaza, while I live in a tent in Deir al-Balah. I haven't seen my children or my wife for over eight months.
My children and wife are suffering from continuous bombing, lack of resources to live in peace, and a shortage of food and water. Here, I am enduring severe psychological and physical pressures due to my inability to be with them and meet their needs.
Tumblr media
I ask anyone who reads my story to look upon us with compassion and help me raise even a small amount of money so that we can leave this country and find a safe place to live. We seek a country that offers us safety and a decent life, far from wars, genocide, and lack of security. We need shelter, food, water, education, and healthcare for me and my family.
Tumblr media
My previous account was verified by many people, but unfortunately, it was banned, and I had to create a new account. Please share my new account and help my family reach a larger audience for support and assistance.

I was sitting with my 4-year-old son, Saad, in a displacement school in Deir al-Balah when the school was targeted by four rockets. I was injured in my leg, while my son suffered injuries all over his body and, unfortunately, lost his sight later. During the attack, I lost my mobile phone and all the data on it. I created a new account on Tumblr and ask anyone who reads my story to help me share it.

Leftist antisemitism is a symptom - American Jews and the Illiberal Left
TLDR: I think we would be wise to stop regarding leftist antisemitism only in its own context and habitually recognize it is a part of a larger issue, the rise of the illiberal left.
Why are Jews are the most reliable supporters of Liberal policies and politicians in modern American history?
Haviv Rettig Gur seems to suggest that Jews in the US, recognizing that Liberal values resulted in their (imperfect but historic) emancipation in the US, became perhaps the most Liberal people ever. They understood that US Liberal values were what made Jews relatively safe in the US, and offered them opportunities which had been denied to them everywhere else.
When previously did a head of state speak to Jews the way George Washington did?
Gur suggests that this is why American Jews have historically been so invested in the struggle of black folks in the US. When I say invested, I'm talking about facts like these:
- Henry Moscowitz was one of the founders of the NAACP.
- Kivie Kaplan, a vice-chairman of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (now called the Union for Reform Judaism), served as the national president of the NAACP from 1966 to 1975.
- From 1910 to 1940, more than 2,000 primary and secondary schools and 20 Black colleges (including Howard, Dillard and Fisk universities) were established in whole or in part by contributions from Jewish philanthropist Julius Rosenwald. At the height of the so-called "Rosenwald schools," nearly 40 percent of Black people in the south were educated at one of these institutions.
- Jews made up half of the young people who participated in the Mississippi Freedom Summer of 1964.
- Leaders of the Reform Movement were arrested with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in St. Augustine, Florida in 1964 after a challenge to racial segregation in public accommodations.
- Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel marched arm-in-arm with Dr. King in his 1965 March on Selma.
- The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were drafted in the conference room of Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, under the aegis of the Leadership Conference, which for decades was located in the RAC's building.
When I was a child and asked my mother why Jews seemed overwhelmingly to be Democrats, I was told "because of FDR and the Civil Rights movement." That's not wrong, in Gur's framing, but perhaps a more shallow response than the question deserves.
In Gur's framing, US Jews realized that the promises of Liberalism, over and over, no matter how much they delivered for other peoples, did not deliver for black Americans.
Gur suggests that US Jews worked to see that change for their black co-citizens because if American Liberalism didn't deliver for black Americans what it appeared to promise to all Americans, the sense of safety, security, and belonging which Jews felt in the US was an illusion.
US Jews believed that we had common cause with non-Jewish American Liberals. We thought non-Jewish liberals believed what we believed about universal civil rights, pluralism, enlightenment values and enlightenment reason. When Jews saw the "In this House We Believe" signs on our neighbors' lawns, We felt comforted because those beliefs are also our beliefs.
Tumblr media
We thought, for instance, that our non-Jewish friends agreed that Liberal democracies were better for human rights than any form of government in the history of human societies. We thought they agreed that religious, racial, and ethnic intolerance were social ills which needed to be fought with information. We thought they valued data, reason, and reliable sources.
Since 10/7/23, we've been learning that we were mistaken. We've seen gentiles who we thought shared our values seem to discard those values.
We saw college educated friends share antisemitic (and alarmingly familiar) conspiracy theories about Israeli puppetry of US politics and the return of Nazi and Soviet antisemitic slogans/images.
We've seen highly educated "Liberals" preach ahistoric nonsense denying that the Jewish people are from the Levant and willfully ignoring the huge swaths of historical fact which don't support their favored narrative.
We've seen friends rage against "globalists" and "Zionists," when what they mean is 'Jews'.
We've seen people who we thought were allies against all forms of racism justify their racism towards Jews as righteous through specious reasoning like 'I don't hate Jews, just the 97% of Jews who believe that Jews should have self-determination in their homeland.'
We've been told that we cannot ask them to temper their use of antisemitic tropes, because doing so "weaponizes" concerns about antisemitism to obstruct them from their righteous crusade against the most evil nation on earth...which happens to be the only Jewish nation.
Despite this, about 80% of Jewish voters voted for Harris over Trump.
I think US Jews will continue to be Liberals, because Liberal values are dear to us and aligned with our values as Jews, as a historically oppressed minority, and as Americans who see more clearly than some others the gap between the promise of American liberalism and its long-delayed universal delivery.
The problem, I think, is in how many of our former friends simply aren't Liberals any longer.
I think Jews in the US need to spend a good deal more time scrutinizing the illiberal left.
Nine days after the attacks of 10/7/23, Jonathan Chait wrote:
Writers like Michelle Goldberg, Julia Ioffe, and my colleague Eric Levitz, all of whom rank among the writers I most admire, have written anguished columns about the alienation of Jewish progressives from the far left. I think all their points are totally correct. But I find the frame of their response too narrow. They are treating apologias for Hamas as a factually or logically flawed application of left-wing ideals. I believe, to the contrary, that Hamas defenders are applying their own principles correctly. The problem is the principles themselves.
...
Liberals believe political rights are universal. Basic principles like democracy, free speech, and human rights apply equally to all people, without regard to the content of their political values. (This of course very much includes Palestinians, who deserve the same rights as Jews or any other people, and whose humanity is habitually ignored by Israeli conservatives and their American allies.) A liberal would abhor the use of political violence or repression, however evil the targets.
...
The illiberal left believes treating everybody equally, when the power is so unequal, merely serves to maintain existing structures of power. It follows from their critique that the legitimacy of a tactic can only be assessed with reference to whether it is being used by the oppressor or the oppressed. Is it okay for, say, a mob of protesters to shout down a lecture? Liberals would say no. Illiberal leftists would need to know who was the speaker and who was the mob before they could answer.
...
One observation I’ve shared with many analysts well to my left is that the debate over this illiberalism and the social norms it has spawned — demands for deference in the name of allyship, describing opposing ideas as a form of harm, and so on — has tracked an older debate within the left over communism. Communism provided real-world evidence of how an ideology that denies political rights to anybody deemed to be the oppressor laid the theoretical groundwork for repression and murder.
There have been conscious echoes of this old divide in the current dispute over Hamas. The left-wing historian Gabriel Winant has a column in Dissent urging progressives not to mourn dead Israeli civilians because that sentiment will be used to advance the Zionist project. Winant sounds eerily like an old communist fellow traveler explaining that the murders of the kulaks or the Hungarian nationalists are the necessary price of defending the revolution. “The impulse, repeatedly called ‘humane’ over the past week, to find peace by acknowledging equally the losses on all sides rests on a fantasy that mourning can be depoliticized,” he argues, calling such soft-minded sentiment “a new Red Scare.” Making the perfect omelette always requires some broken eggs in the form of innocent people who made the historical error of belonging to, or perhaps being born into, an enemy class.
But more than three decades have passed since the Soviet Union existed or China’s government was recognizably Marxist. And so the liberal warning about the threat of left-wing illiberalism seemed abstract and bloodless. On October 7, it suddenly became bloody and concrete. It didn’t happen here, of course. The shock of it was that many leftists revealed just how far they would be willing to follow their principles. “People have repeated over and over again over the last few days that you ‘cannot tell Palestinians how to resist,’” notes (without contradicting the sentiment) Arielle Angel, editor-in-chief of the left-wing Jewish Currents. Concepts like this, treating the self-appointed representative of any oppressed group as beyond criticism, are banal on the left. Yet for some progressive Jews, it is shocking to see it extended to the slaughter of babies, even though that is its logical endpoint. The radical rhetoric of decolonization, with its glaring absence of any limiting principles, was not just a rhetorical cover to bully some hapless school administrator into changing the curriculum. Phrases like “by any means necessary” were not just figures of speech. Any means included any means, very much including murder.
Both Julia Ioffe and Eric Levitz have pointed out that decolonization logic ignores the fact that half of Israel’s Jewish population does not have European origins and came to Israel after suffering the same ethnic cleansing as the Palestinians. This is correct. But what if it weren’t? If every Israeli Jew descended from Ashkenazi stock, would it be okay to shoot their babies?
The problem is much greater than leftist antisemitism. The illiberal left has become nearly as great a threat to Liberalism as the far right.
It is often the case that a movement’s treatment of Jews serves as a broader indicator of its health. It’s not an accident that the Republican Party has become more attractive to antisemites as it has grown more paranoid and authoritarian. What the far left revealed about its disposition toward Jews is not just a warning for the Jews but a warning for all progressives who care about democracy and humanity. The pro-Hamas left is not merely indicating an indifference toward Jews. It is revealing the illiberal left’s inherent cruelty, repression, and inhumanity.
I'm annoyed that it is has taken me so long to catch on and alarmed by the implications.
I am, however, very proud of my 14yo, who sums up her experience trying to respectfully disagree with leftists this way:
"They're allergic to nuance."

Any PTA mom headcanons for Bruce?
He runs the PTA like Wayne Enterprises if given the chance, which means it’s highly effective, highly bureaucratic, and has better data security than most small countries
The pettier of the moms see him as a threat since he’s clearly bisexual (and very attractive)
Nobody, not even Alfred, thinks it was a good idea for him to join the PTA
Flawless recall of Robert’s rules of order, which he uses with the League and forces the PTA to adopt
Discovers an embezzlement scheme in the school just by looking through their receipts for the last ten years
Brings Costco trays of cookies to PTA events and doesn’t even try to claim them as home cooking; everyone is jealous
Heavy hitter for testimony in front of city officials; has argued in favor of continued block grants for scholarships to various local private schools; funds the scholarships when/if the money isn’t approved
Bruce Wayne putting his kid in school next to theirs puts a lot of parents at ease, for some reason
Once broke up a domestic dispute at a PTA event between a pissed-off dad and a crying mom just by looking big and asking the dad dumb questions about what kind of cookies his kids liked (he didn’t know) until he stormed off

I've been griping about the normalization of identity outing via social media for a while now. To put it simply, it's become almost some weird societal requirement that if you don't have every detail listed about yourself in your Twitter/FB/etc. bio, then it means you have "something to hide" or that you're not as "verifiable" because your account looks indistinct from that of a bot.
But that societal norm has really only benefited the people who profit off of that information in some way, whether it's through selling user data or through weaponizing details about a person against them.
I know that a lot of us love to use the fun little labels and acronyms in our bio that help others like us identify us as a 'safe person' or as someone who's in the same social/racial/identity groups as them. We're humans, we love to categorize things, it's in our nature (and it's fun!)
But if there's any time to start regulating that habit and challenging the norm that you're obligated to include all your personal info online - it's now.
There was a time when sock puppet accounts were expected and typical, not "suspicious".
There was a time when even age-sex-location was considered "too much information", but once it became the norm, we only EVER gave our personal information beyond generic ASL to people who we knew both online and in real life, or at the very least, people who we had known online for a significant enough amount of time that they had proved to be trustworthy (and even then, we didn't owe that information to anyone, ever; there are forum friends who I made online 10+ years ago and still talk to who do not know my personal information beyond broad strokes).
There was a time when simply being an avatar with a funny username was enough. And it still is enough, but massive platforms like Facebook and Twitter have been brainwashing us for years to believe that's not the case, under the guise of, "You wouldn't want to be dishonest, would you?" Through these same norms, we were led to believe that anime profile pictures are cringe, that having a fake online name is stupid, that the photos of you having fun at social events have to be taken JUST right otherwise you might imply to others that you're not actually having fun.
And considering how long these platforms have been around now, we have entire generations of children now who have been born and raised on that version of the ZuckMusk web, who have been taught that it "protects them" to express to everyone publicly their age, their school, their workplace, their family members, everything about themselves, because to not do so would be disingenuous.
None of this is to imply that the Internet was "safer" back in the day. I definitely should not have been on the Internet as much as I was when I was 13 in the late 2000's, it definitely did not benefit my brain development or my social skills. But the version of the Internet we currently exist in now is one that's been predicated on the false sense of security - the belief that if you're honest, everyone else has to be, too.
We've always had ways of identifying our safe people - by participating in the communities that we know are designed around our hobbies, our interests, our people. They might be small, they might not be as "cool" as the idea of netting yourself a big following of thousands of people, but they're also a lot safer and more genuine than that idealized following ever could be.
Don't feel pressured to include every bit of information about yourself in your bio. Even on Facebook, there's no rule that says you have to list your workplace, your school, your family members. There's no rule that says you have to list your personality type, queer labels, and neurodivergent disorders in your Twitter bio. There's no rule that you have to "prove" your life is real and fulfilled through the verification of photos, location tagging, and open-book sharing. If you share those photos, it should be because you genuinely want to share them, not because you feel some societal pressure to live up to others' expectations.
And I guarantee you, even your local mutuals on Facebook - your former classmates, family friends, distant relatives, coworkers, etc. - do not actually give that much of a damn about your personal life that they should be owed that much of a look into it on a daily basis. They've got their own shit going on, they literally do not need to know every detail about you.
I know it sounds scary. It also sounds kind of boring, when we've been used to a certain "way" of browsing and participating for years, that if we don't do so, it feels like being in the "out group" and that we're "breaking the rules". But I promise you, after spending over half my life online, those rules do not exist or benefit anyone who wouldn't profit off that information.
If you're wanting to learn how to branch off from major platforms like Facebook and Twitter and/or become more self-sufficient online, here are some guides to navigating the Internet like an old schooler that may help you!
FREE SITE BUILDER:
DIGITAL PIRACY 101:
(also in addition to everything mentioned here ^^^ they neglect to also mention Tor Browser which is a light and free-to-use browser software that allows you to browse anonymously; note that it's similar to a VPN in that it helps hide your identity online, HOWEVER it won't mask you from your ISP quite as effectively as a VPN, and if you sign into personal accounts with Tor, that's still going to obviously out you online lmao but I love using Tor for the odd time when I need to make a sock puppet for something and don't want it linked to my IP! and unlike a VPN, it's free to use!)
LEARN HOW TO USE RSS FEEDS:
People still use these! They're especially helpful for getting updates from your favorite pages and sites directly to your browser WITHOUT having to worry about stupid algorithm bullshit picking and choosing what you see. And many sites DO have RSS support once you know how to find it! (like adding in /rss at the end of a URL! Like this!)
FAKE EMAIL SERVICES:
LEARN HOW TO CODE IN HTML/CSS/JAVASCRIPT (AND MORE!):
DECENTRALIZED SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:
I hope this helps arm you with some new knowledge in how to navigate the Internet like a Certified Old Person™️(like meeee!) Make your secret alt blogs for besties! Make your formal Facebook accounts that are clean of personal information and present the most neutral, safe-for-work version of yourself and keep the fun stuff to the secret profiles and chat groups that are just for you and friends/family/etc!! It might be "inconvenient" to have multiple accounts for the same purpose, but it's also INCREDIBLY freeing and can make your online experience both safer and more enjoyable.
Tumblr media
Being "less" of yourself online does not make you any less you. It is your identity - you do not owe any amount of it to anyone beyond yourself. And in times like these, your identity is your greatest asset. Protect it.

how would the 141 + konig and vaqueros react to reader (not part of the military, just a civvy) randomly having connections with a bid deal military person like someone on a higher rank💀 imagine them being "oh general ___? we had dinner at his house last week. i met him while I'm on a coffee run" or someone from 141 mentioning that they need something and reader is just like "hmm i might have someone for that"
this is so funny to me
ghost: he needed access to some computer data from a big law firm, but they refused to cooperate with him or the team. at dinner one night, you two were talking about your days when he mentioned his frustration with this law firm. “what firm is it?” you asked curiously and he told you it was a group called ‘Henson and co Law’. you started laughing and when he looked confused, you smiled. “i know their mom. i use to babysit them for her after their dad left the picture. let me see if i can get their mother to talk some sense into those brothers.” the next day, the law firm quickly gave ghost what he needed and asked him to give you their love.
soap: you two were laying in bed together, him having just return from a recon mission. “you know, this mission is being over complicated just because no one knows how to get into this gala. every time we try and get invites, they reject us!” he let out his frustration and you looked up from your book. “you talking about the Mason Gala? i can get you in. Helen Mason is my godmother!” soap immediately whipped his head towards you, desperately grabbing at your arm. “please doll! also your godmother is a multi millionaire?” you shook your head, getting your phone out to text the women and ended up securing the whole team and yourself tickets.
gaz: you two were on a facetime call while he was on a mission. the homecoming date kept being pushed back because one of the guys they were supposed to get intel from kept flaking. gaz was expressing his frustration with the whole thing when he mentioned a name to you that was super familiar. “wait a minute…you don’t mean Ben Klark? i went to high school with him!” you laughed when gaz lurched forward. “please tell me you still have contact with him! we need tech!” you nodded, grabbing your laptop to message him. the next day, three boxes showed up full with the Klark tech the team needed.
price: he hosted a bbq at your guy’s house every other weekend. you were bringing out trays of food to the boys at the backyard table. they were deep in work talk when you joined. “we just need to somehow get the Jacobsons sisters to agree to go undercover.” price shook his head, knowing the two girls would never agree. “you mean Vanessa and Amelia Jacobsons? their mom does my nails.” you mentioned causally, setting the tray of food in front of soap and gaz. “wait you know them?” price looked at you confused. “yeah the girls come into the shop whenever i’m in to gossip. i think i have Vanessa’s number. i can try and convince her if it’ll help.” you looked at the boys, confused as to why this was groundbreaking to them. the boys immediately started begging you to ask the girls and you giggled as you went back into the kitchen, grabbing your phone to text the two girls.
alejandro: you happened to be sitting in his office, waiting for him to take you to lunch when him and two other officers walked in. “what do you mean we don’t have a pilot? no one on this base can fly?” he sounded frustrated as the two officers shook their heads. “you need a pilot?” you asked, catching the three men’s attention. “why? do you know one?” one of the officers asked. “yeah my brother. he’s overseas in america but i’m sure he’ll be able to do it. he’s air force.” you grabbed your phone to text him. alejandro crouched in front of you, kissing your head. “you’re my favorite, did you know that? i’ll contact his C.O. and get him down here.” you smiled, squeezing his hand. “you still owe me lunch.”
rudy: he was working in his home office when you entered, a plate of food in your hands. “rudy honey? you gotta eat.” you placed the plate down on top of the stack of papers he had buried his face into. “i will once i can get a reputable translator for when we go to russia in a few days.” he groaned, softly pushing the plate to the side. “i think i have a guy for that.” you pulled your phone out and started texting. rudy looked up at you, the look of hope in his eyes. “i’m desperate. everyone i reach out to is so sketchy.” he rubbed his eyes and you nodded. “Mikael Petrov. i studied with him in college. great guy.” you handed your phone to him with the contact pulled up. “you are a blessing.” he stood before kissing you gently.
könig: you were folding laundry in the family room when könig came home. he kicked his boots off before collapsing in his favorite chair next to you. “rough day?” you asked, not looking up from your task. “ja. everyone is busting my ass to find a hacker that can decode this transmission we intercepted.” you chuckled at the very militaristic sentence. “you could’ve just asked me baby. i know so many people.” you placed his pile of laundry on his lap before kissing his head. “you know someone? a hacker?” he looked concerned at first. “don’t ask. college roommate for all 4 years.” you laughed before getting your phone out. “Emila Davenport.” you gave him her number before taking the laundry basket full of clothes back upstairs to your room. “i’m gonna marry you someday, maus!” könig called out and you laughed loudly in return.

14 days with you: A comprehensive (i hope so) guide on what are those encrypted messages on day 4.
Tumblr media
Soooo for those who don't know, i have a special interest for cryptoanalisis and even took classes when the military showed up at my school (it's a normal thing for the military to come recluting in my country lmao, males even have to go one year of mandatory military training) anyway. I noticed something interesting on day four and i don't know if anyone else has tried to decipher these. But i don't want to just limit to give the decoded message, so in this post i'll teach you how exactly this type of cipher works so you can respond to this guy in his same language >:3
TW: Spoilers for 14dwy (of course) and a looong rant. Those are the only warnings.
Just scroll to the end in case you're just looking for the translations alone.
The first two messages are pretty easy to decode since it's just ascii. You can easily translate it online or if you know the language of 0s and 1s you can just read it through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first one reads a bit more harder than the other two but it says "HI ANGEL" and "ERROR: I SEE YOU" or something like that.
The main thing it's the more complicated set of words we get later:
Tumblr media
This specific cipher is called Monoalphabetic substitution.
I'll teach you how it works:
Monoalphabetic ciphers are a type of substitution cipher where each letter in the plaintext is mapped to a fixed letter in the ciphertext. This mapping remains consistent throughout the entire message. The primary goal of these ciphers is to convert plaintext into ciphertext and vice versa, ensuring data security.
Basically swaps a letter for another and that's it. Well...not quite. There is also different categories when you work with this specific cipher. You have to take into account if the spaces on the encrypted message must be kept (Aristocrat cipher) or ignored (Patristocrat cipher). In this case we'll be taking the spaces into account. You also must take into account the language, since russian monoalphabetic and english monoalphabetic (for example) are completely different (obviously).
You need to start guessing the letters with the only clue being the text itself.
It might sound complicated but it is really simple. I'll work with the messages in the game directly while i show you:
We already know that the language is english, so there is must likely two letters we already have, and it's the letter "I" and the letter "A". Since those are the only single character you could use separately from the others to indicate personal first-person pronoun and an adjective respectively. The first issue is that we have two letters that repeat themselves as single letters throughout the messages: Letter "P" and letter "M"
So we must figure out which letter corresponds to which substitute letter. So my recommendation is to look for short words through the messages that include a P or an M
We have PIJ and PS and JMJ, AMQ and AMS for example. The ideal would be to look for any words with P and M both included, but i didn't find any word. So if you replace Ps and Ms as
P→I
M→A
Basically the words are IIJ IS JAJ AAQ AAS
Notice how the "IS" seemed to be partially solved but could be "IS" or "AS" since we don't have confirmation of actually P→I. Of course, all of this assuming S→S
When you do the substitution as P=A and M=I we have something like this: AIJ AS JIJ AIQ AIS
the AIQ and AIS are two really interesting words since they could be pronouns. HIS and HIM respectively, but this is all a process of trial and error until you try every possible combination that will get you to eventually complete more words (bigger words) and fill in the gaps, obtaining more letters.
It kinda reminds me to the system of learning a language in this game called HOMICIPHER.
Anyway, I'll save you some troubles and try some more combinations.
If we assume that
S→S
P→I
M→A
We can now try to figure out bigger words. Words that contain S, P and M
Btw this is a super complicated thing to do as it sometimes requires more of a leap of faith than a proper analysis. So this is a process that goes back and forth.
For example, we see the word PQ a lot. The P being I and the Q could be an S so it forms the word "IS". But when we see that S=S the only other possible combination is Q→M
So now we have another letter deciphered and we can try and replace the letters in bigger words to see how many more letters we can complete. From this point on it gets a lot easier unless we make a mistake, in which case we need to go back and try other combinations.
Now that you have the method, you can try and figure it out by your own. But if you don't feel like it, I'll just leave the full substitutions below. I encourage you to skip it and try to figure out all the letters by yourself, it's pretty fun.
Tumblr media
HCJWTBYKNDRGIUEAMQSLOPFVXZ is the key for solving this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See?
Of course i will translate all the messages for you in case you just want to read them.
TRANSLATIONS:
HOW INTERESTING. A LOWLY, MEAGRE INTERLOPER ATTEMPTING TO REWRITE WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN ORDAINED SINCE THE BEGINNING...
YOU REMEMBER NOTHING OF YOUR PAST NOR HOW YOU CAME TO BE, YET HERE YOU ARE, ATTEMPTING TO DIG UP THE ROOTS OF FATE AS THOUGH IT WERE A WEED AND PLANTING YOUR OWN CORRUPT SEEDLING IN ITS PLACE
PERHAPS WE ARE THE SAME, THEN
I TOO FIND ENJOYMENT IN DISRUPTING THE VINES OF KISMET AND WATCHING HIM STRUGGLE
(Kismet = a force that controls the future, outside human control)
TWAS I WHO GAVE HIM HIS GIFT, AS I DID WITH OTHERS, AND YET HE WASTES SUCH SPOILS ON A LOWLY MORTAL TO BORROW MORE TIME. I SUPPOSE THE LIFE OF MANY MATTERS NOT TO THE LIFE OF ONE
NO MATTER. SUCH TRIVIAL ENTERTAINMENT IS NOT LOST ON ME
GO ON, CONTINUE DOWN THIS FOOLISH, OVERGROWN PATH AND SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN. TIS NOT THY WILTING SOUL I FEED ON AND IT SHALL NOT BE THY LIFE I CLAIM ONCE THE ENDING HAS BEGUN
AFTER ALL, I AM THE END, JUST AS I AM THE BEGINNING AND THE IN-BETWEEN. THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE, COMBINED INTO ONE. I AM INEVITABLE.
...
Final thoughts:
This doesn't seem like something Ren would say, not even [REDACTED] since whatever this is seems to be ancient (judging by the language) and completely able to "give" abilities to people.
I personally believe there is certain philosophy under the idea of "being a programmer" or a "hacker" since it's one of the only instances in which a human can become something remotely closer to a god. When you think about it, within that knowledge lies the ability to name (variables), the ability to give a purpose and overall the ability to control what happened, happens and will happen. Considering that 14dwy is a game that heavily brings the topic of something (probably Ren/Redacted) messing with the code, i wouldn't be surprised if this entity that speaks in criptic manners was something among the lines of a laplace demon. Which would be hella funny, because the nickname Ren chose for us ("Angel").
I could explain more about the Laplace Demon concept if you, dear readers, are interested but that would be for another occasion. Another essay hehe.
For now, a huge thanks to @14dayswithyou for their amazing work in cryptography. I had a lot of fun deciphering this. I am excited about what this game will turn out to be.
Have a really great day/night!
