Pre-timeskip thoughts :

I just finished pre-timeskip and before i get into fishmen arc here are some thoughts

Favorite Strawhat : Sanji, Luffy

Favorite non-Strawhat : nefertari vivi, Bonclay

Other characters I liked : Dr Kureha (girlboss), the baratie workers, portgas d Ace (*sobs uncontrollably*), Hachi the octopus, Vivi's duck karoo, boa hancock, Rayleigh, ivankov HEEHAW,

Favourite friendships : zoro-luffy, zoro-chopper, sanji-ace (sobs uncontrollably), nami-usopp, Luffy-vivi, Luffy-bon chan

Favorite island : Little Garden, Water 7

Favorite Villains :

Captain Kuro and the kuro neko pirates were good and i liked the unique fighting style they had (siam and buchi, then jango was hilarious as hell etc)

Don krieg was the scum of earth but he made the story progress into something more serious and thrilling.

Sawtooth Arlong, the fishmen were all intimidating as hell and the whole arc was filled to the brim with excitement

The Baroque works concept was very cool with all the code names and i felt eager to find out the powers of the duos being revealed slowly. I liked Ms. Goldenweek and Ms doublefinger and would love to see more of them in the future. Finally Crocodile served well as a villain and later as an ally.

Skypiea Eneru (enel?idk) was so formidable and his power was so very unique from all the villains up till that arc, so it was very refreshing to watch. Plus the priests and their fighting style was a good introduction to haki (called as mantra) and its influence in a fight. (Strawhats' fight with satori was fun HOH HO HO).

CP9 were all parts of ruthless and annoying about their government assigned crimes but i like that Chapapa guy the most, he's cute asf and Rob Lucci turning into a tiger gave me a shock lmao. But damn rob lucci as a shipwright was some hot shit

Aokiji gave me blood pressure from how angry he makes me but him letting go off robin in water 7 and all that time ago in ohara, he has left an impression and I'm looking forward to find out more about him

Bartholomew Kuma gave me the HOLY FUCK OH SHIT OH GOD FUCK HE IS HERE AGAIN jolts but then turned out to be a nice person with mysterious lore that im eager to find out so he deserves a place here. Plus his paw paw power is cute

Perona's negative hollow power was hilarious and she's a nice cutie girl who considers zoro a boytoy like me and Luffy so that's a plus

Favourite devil fruit power so far : tori tori no mi : model phoenix (marco) i like the flight and his regeneration power

Favourite moments : Enies Lobby Sogeking shooting down the govt flag as the strawhats announce war against them, sabaody archipelago Luffy punching a celestial dragon (GOAT Luffy), marineford Luffy punching Garp (GOAT LUFFY), Luffy crying after Ace's death, Luffy punching bellamy

Favourite fights : Luffy vs kuro pirates, Luffy vs Crocodile final battle in alabasta, Sanji on the train fighting that ramen guy, zoro vs hachi, little garden final battle

a few tears may or may not have been shed : Chopper's backstory, going merry funeral, little Luffy being kidnapped :(, marineford ace-Luffy

Best arc : Arlong, Little garden, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark (i love spooky things and tb was hilarious)

Thoughts on the Strawhats :

Luffy : I've grown to love him a lot. His innocence, childlike excitement and badbitchery have rizzed me up, your honor. Also he is a musical genius, minami no shimawa has been SOTY for decades. Plus I really love Luffy's eating moments. He looks so cute and stupid and it melts my heart so much i know a Luffy mukbang show would go SO HARD

Zoro : His backstory felt a bit lukewarm but he later made up for everything. He turned out to be so thoughtful, brave and selfless, especially, zoro's character got new dimension during water 7 saga and ofc thriller bark zoro is one for the history books.

Nami : at first she irked me a bit, but after knowing her backstory, I started loving her. She's strong, resourceful, selfless and smart.

Usopp : his quirks, especially during the G-8 filler arc after skypiea, Usopp's CONDORRRIANO still cracks me up like no other. And him getting all the protective religious gears and garlic necklace when he saw Brook, was hilarious.

Chopper : little baby, soft fuzzy and dumb as fuck but has been so so traumatized. Also Tony Tony chopper has to be the cutest name anyone has ever been given, little baby is always too hard on himself (typical capricorn) and needs to chill.

Franky : I love his dance routines, and his franky family was cool as well. I once even followed one of his routines he does after he landed in the karakuri island (it was a good hip movement after binging one piece for HOURS). Also i miss mozu and kiwi dance icons

Robin : She filled me with rage during water 7, but after her backstory, I understood her more. She's cute and her nihilistic outlook on life is hilarious

Sanji : PERFECTION. He took my heart even before baratie (I saw a person doing leg karate in one of the openings and couldn't wait to meet him). His initial backstory (the starvation and zeff) moved me,and based on that i can see how thoughtful and kind he is. I can't wait to discover more about this wonderful character in depth. His badbitchery with fullbody, His kindness with Gin and don Krieg, the unique way he fights - he had me from the very first appearance. And I can't believe he has more depth to his already beautiful complex character. look at my pretty boy

Brook : i love how polite but chaotic he is and how easily he blends in with the strawhats. And i absolutely love how open minded Luffy was with Brook, and their interactions crack me UP.

General thoughts about op :

- op keeps me on my toes with the constant new islands, the new characters, both allies and villains, being gradually introduced feels very refreshing and thrilling

- Even the Strawhats slowly joined with a fun (sometimes sad) story. The introduction with a fresh face and the development of a new friendship felt good and didn't jumble my brain with too much information at the same time

- I love the dynamics of the strawhats and how wholesome all of them are in their own ways

- The summit war wasn't as exciting as i was expecting, it felt too drawn out and the constant switch between different fight scenes and fighting parties made things feel unfinished. On that note, whitebeard and his pirates were disappointing asf

- Excited to see more of Bartholomew Kuma, shanks, crocodile, mihawk, ivankov, perona, captain kidd, Law

- Bon chan is GOAT and i better be seeing him soon

Looking forward to see what the series has in store for me <3

Wonderful wonderful cig.

Not too long ago I rewatched ‘Unlikely Event of An Emergency’ and like always I sobbed, no matter how many times I watched it.

But the feeling multiplied tenfolds because I was somewhat taken a back to your work ‘Where All This Loves Comes From”.More specifically the scene where Owen tells TK that being loved is the first thing he ever experienced on Earth. And also the one in 2020 where TK and Gwyn was on Spring Street before he was about to propose to Alex, and Gwyn reminded TK of how both of them love him.

I think it’s lovely how work can fandom can enhance and just unconsciously be adapted to the canon-show. Because now every time I think about the Strand family, my mind goes back to the work you have beautifully created. There’s so many works from canon compliant to canon divergence to AUs, that has been cemented in my mind and heart, even when the show or the pairing has ended, and that’s the beauty of fandom.

So I just want to say thank you, to you and so many amazing member of the fandom for being the heart to the journey of enjoying the show. Whether you are a creator or an enjoyer, on the sideline cheering on our lovely creators giving them loves and positive feedbacks.

The wonderful people who has been majorly open and accepting, the works created, the meta, the silly discussion has been majority part of why I enjoyed LS so much so I won’t be worried when the show end. So, I hope the show ending wouldn’t discourage a lot of people in joining and/or creating, because the main part of fandom has always been the community, the genuine love and excitement from fan.

I can’t wait to read the Poet Fic and unravel what you had in store for us. A 117k work 😱 you spoil us

😭 Oh wonderful wonderful anon! I don’t even know what to say. This is such an amazing message. That you remember anything about my fics after reading them completely knocks me off my feet. I get it, because so many fics live in my head rent free, but it just feels amazing to be told this about my own too, in particular during a tough week where I’ve been feeling quite worried about lots of things. And that Unlikely Event of an Emergency sparked you to think of it!! I’m hugely flattered, thank you!

Anyway - I completely agree with you about the works in his fandom. My love for LS and Tarlos goes beyond the show and belongs within the versions of the characters that are created by the writers here, some of whom I’ve been lucky enough to befriend, and others who I don’t really know but think are immensely cool and talented. I did have a bit of a hard time with the opening arc of season 4 (and the ending! Gosh) but the fics, gif sets, art, meta posts, made all the difference. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but when the show ends, the characters do not. They will be available to rewatch anyway, in hours and hours worth of episodes (which is more than some fandoms get) AND they become ours. Like a special gift. The fandom will change a bit after season 5 (in a way I hope includes new fans arriving!) but I will be here, I will be writing and reading, and I’m really happy to know lovely people like you will be too. I feel your positivity right in my heart, and I hope lots of other creators and enjoyers of the fandom see it too - because this is such a gorgeous love note to them, not just me 🥰 So I’m adding the 911 Lone Star and Tarlos tags to this.

"Vagabonds" Chapter 15 "Get In Losers"

Ongoing fanfic Hunter x Reader/Fem Reader/OC

Word Count: 2.7K (sorry, tried to keep it under 1.5, but failed this time)

Background: A message from Cid which gives Hunter has some character growth. The crew of the Marauder and Beldame sit down for a meal and a fun card game. Basically some fun fluff in-between all the action and angst...but the memory of Crosshair won't be forgotten! And...Tech has an important message for Hunter!!!

*The card game CUTTHROAT is a combination of Gin Rummy, Poker, and Uno with differing/ever changing House Rules depending on where you play it. It's meant to be a high stakes betting game that is played ruthlessly and obnoxiously. Cheating is not against the rules, either. A favorite of Arc Troopers, Bounty Hunters, and card game casinos but the Nomaadi have their own version, usually less fatal (people have been shot dead during hands played by Bounty Hunters-think old Western card games) and a LOT more fun!

*Hammer, Datapad, Cutting Torch! is TBB equivalent to Rock/Paper/Scissors...as paper and scissors don't seem to exist in this universe...

Warning: Star Wars Canon Violence, earth swears, bodily functions (boys being silly), hints at horniness/sexual innuendo/humor.

Recap:

Sil put his hands up to his face in shame. Echo could barely make out the next muffled statement from Sil.

“I’m happy that man is dead.”

Wrecker, who had been sitting nearby playing on a datapad, and unable to NOT hear what was being said turned to Echo with an extremely horrified expression.

Echo met Wrecker’s expression with a mournful one.

Sil broke into loud sobs and let the tears overtake him.

“Does he need a hug?” Wrecker whispered.

Echo shook his head. “I don't’ think he wants ANYONE to touch him right now.”

Wrecker nodded. “I’ll...uh...go make a fresh pot of caf. Ok?”

“Good idea.” Echo replied. “Going to be a very long night.”

"Get In Losers"

Awhile later Mad and Hunter Emerged from the back of the Marauder and made their way to the front of the ship.

An incoming communication alerted Tech, and he sprung up from the game of Balaans he was playing to sit in the cockpit.

“Hunter, Cid is attempting to contact us.”

Hunter stopped with a mistrustful look on his face.

“Should we even answer it?” Echo asked. “Empire has probably taken over Ord Mantell.”

Everyone eyed each other, waiting for Hunter to make the final decision.

“Tech, if we answer the comm how long before our coordinates can be traced?”

“Approximately 60 seconds. Anything over that we have a high probability of detection.”

“Hunky, you DON’T have to do this!” Mad was worrisome.

“I do. Let the comm through.” Hunter was determined.

A blue hologram projection of Cid appeared in the middle of the Marauder’s cockpit. She looked PISSED.

“BANDANA!” Cid shrieked. “Where have you boys been! Need you to do another job for me.”

“We’re DONE working for you, Cid.” Hunter seethed.

Then Cid noticed Mad standing with the Batch. “I should’ve known.” Cid crossed her arms. “The love birds flew the coop... after ALL I've done for you!”

Cid’s eyes betrayed her. For a second, they flitted offscreen...as if SOMEONE was urging her to keep them talking to give up their position.

“That’s a load of Bantha Shit, Cid!” Hunter was about to give the signal to end the comm.

But Cid wasn’t done. She had ONE more petty thing to say:

“And WHERE is my expensive settee from The Oasis that’s been missin’ since you two were up there???”

Hunter sneered “WE FUCKED IT TO DEATH AND BURNED WHAT WAS LEFT!” Then signaled to Tech to immediately cut the comm.

The LAST expression ANYONE saw from Cid was a look of wide-eyed disgust. Then the hologram disappeared.

“Transmission terminated before detection.” Tech remarked.

Everyone else was silent for a few seconds...then erupted into laughter.

Hunter leaned down to face Omega. “Sorry you had to hear that, Kid. Was uncouth of me.”

“I’m not sure EXACTLY what you said...but I think you got the desired reaction.” She grinned.

“OHHHH! I NEED DETAILS!!!” Wrecker slapped Hunter on the shoulder.

Hunter blushed deeply and glanced up at Mad.

She had that devil-may care smirk on her face.

Echo chimed in at Hunter “No wonder the Empire found us!” Then turned to everyone else on the ship. “They sent a HUMPING BEACON!”

Hunter covered Omega’s ears.

It didn’t matter as Tech was recording EVERYTHING. She’d see it sooner or later.

Everyone was slap happy having escaped a terrifying situation...and for some crew members possible death...

“Coming and going” Love Force signed with a silly face.

“Breaking and entering” Sil added with a deadpan expression.

“Get in loser...we’re busting stuff up!” Omega chirped, staring RIGHT at Hunter with a snarky smile.

Wrecker slid off his chair and laid on the floor in a laughing fit. Tiggy jumped up and down on him in glee.

Hunter sighed...” Trying to keep her innocent here!”

“Good lucky, Hunky. Ain’t gonna happen with this bunch.” Mad ran her fingers through his hair.

After the laughter EVENTUALLY died down, Mad made an announcement. “Whoever’s hungry come downstairs to the ‘Dame’s galley. I’ll whip up something good.”

She made her way to the bottom entrance of the Marauder.

Hunter took his hands off Omega’s ears “I had such high hopes for you...” shaking his head at her, then winked.

Omega beamed back, then hugged him. He squeezed her back, then got up. “I’d say keep out of trouble...but that isn’t gong happen, is it?” Glancing at her, Sil, and Love.

Everyone nodded innocently “No”.

“Well...can’t say I blame you. Remember four brothers who were troublesome kids, too.” Hunter glanced around the cockpit, then followed Mad.

A feeling of melancholy hit Hunter in the heart...while he meant himself, Wrecker, Tech, and for right now Echo...even though Echo joined their squad later in adulthood...

...he couldn’t help but think of Crosshair. His most favorite troublesome brother. They got into so many fun shenanigans while on Kamino thanks to Crosshair. He was SUCH an instigator...

Where was he? What was he doing right now?

Mad noticed the faraway look on Hunter’s face.

“What’s bothering you, Hunky?” She stroked his jaw gently.

Hunter popped back into the present. “Just a memory...nothing...”

Mad stared empathetically into Hunter’s eyes. She could relate. So many memories...so many FEELINGS.

“Proud of you telling Cid off like that.”

Hunter beamed. “Felt REALLY good.” Then feigned a badass expression. “Fuck her.”

“OH MY! Angry Hunter is sooo HOT!!!”

He chuckled. “Alright...let me climb the ladder FIRST. Then I can help you down.”

“Whatever you say HOT STUFF.”

The ‘Dames small galley pantry was almost empty.

Everyone had filed down from the Marauder into the Beldame, looking for a meal.

Wrecker apologized “I ate a LOT of what was in there...sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize, Wrecker.” Mad poked him in the belly playfully. “A ship this size can store more than that dinky pantry. Love, show them what I mean.”

Love floated towards the back of the ship, past the cabin bunks and Mad’s stateroom. From what the Batchers could see were only engine compartments and miscellaneous mechanical panels.

They bumped several of the panels with their fist and an entry door slid open. Lights flickered then snapped on, illuminating a hidden larder of food, weapons, and other miscellaneous items. Mad stepped in followed by The Batchers.

“Extraordinary!” Tech exclaimed.

Tiggy ran past him and yanked a bag of grain meal off the shelf, shaking it furiously.

“Drop it!” He ordered. She immediately dropped the bag, with a hole now in it, white grain powder coating her snout.

“You are SO dumb.” Echo looked down at Tiggy.

“She is technically a very normal puppy. Full of energy and mischief.” Tech corrected Echo.

“My bad. You are SO normally troublesome.” Echo teased.

“Wow.” Hunter glanced around. “Must sustain you for months.”

“Depends on how many people are on board. Believe it or not, the amount of people staying on this ship currently is NOTHING close to how many people we’ve crammed in these spaces to smuggle them out of danger. And fed them for weeks.” Mad explained.

Sil added from the doorway. “There’s another secret pantry flanking the other side of the ship, too. But that one isn’t as full. It’s mostly for hiding people. Occasionally animals, too”

Then there is the top crawlspace above us. Love signed. Another hiding space for people and supplies up there.

Wrecker, Echo, Tech, and Hunter stared back at Mad incredulously.

“Hey, I can’t take all the credit. This ship belonged to my Uncle Taavi before I owned it. He designed and built the Dread Beldame himself. He was quite the smuggler back in the day. Now, he just builds stuff for fun and money. The ‘Dame was a gift from him when I had Love. We needed a home...and he gave us one.”

Mad smiled. Then wiped a tear just forming from her eye.

Mom? Love signed. Are you ok?

“Yeah. Just hit me right in the feels. I’m not sad. Just miss that scruffy nerfhearder. Anyhow, l need help restocking the galley pantry and fridge. Then we’ll throw together some grub.”

You didn’t have to tell everyone twice. They set to work IMMEDIATELY.

Dinner consisted of a hearty stew and fresh baked bread, made from ripped grain meal package. Mad had help cooking and baking from Hunter and Sil. Wrecker put together dessert: nondairy whipped topping and cookies on the verge of going stale. Omega got together plates, napkins, and cups. Love found something to drink for the kids. And something to drink for the rest of the adults who could imbibe in alcohol.

Echo brought down the rest of the caf from the Marauder. Then poured a mug for Mad.

Tech, while setting the table, henpecked Echo for pouring such a large mug. “She shouldn’t ingest too much caffeine.”

“Oh, I’m sure those Jedi eggs will be just fine!” Echo rolled his eyes.

He handed Mad the mug. “Thank you Echo.”

Echo omitted to Tech how much sugar and creamer he loaded into the mug. Tech would have a cow.

Mad threw back a mouthful of caf while stirring the stew. Then grimaced and spit the caf back into the mug. “This taste...gah...HORRIBLE! Like...soil!!!”

“Oh, NOW I'm OFFENDED!” Echo scowled. “Fixed that cafe EXACTLY like how I drink it.” Echo addressed the caf drinkers in the room “Was your caf horrible.”

“No.” Wrecker, Tech, and Sil answered in unison.

“Let me have that.” Hunter took a sip from Mad’s mug. “If you mean horrible by ALL the sugar and creamer Echo put in it. I agree. But the coffee portion is just fine...”

“Ohh...Mr. It’s Not Coffee Unless It’s Black...” Echo teased.

“Right. It’s not coffee. Just sugar sludge.” Hunter teased back.

“Time to eat, children!” Mad turned the burner off on the galley stove. Then handed the mug to Wrecker, who downed it like a liquor shot. “I appreciate the thought, Echo. My tastebuds are just crap tonight.”

Everyone dug into the food like they had never eaten before.

The meal was decimated. Everyone sat around in a food coma. Tiggy passed out under the table. The kids had other ideas.

“We need to break out the cards!” Sil suggested.

Love nodded and floated away towards a storage locker.

“Music too!” Omega blurted out.

Tech perked up “I have a collection of antique recordings...”

“NO!” Echo cut him off. “NO MORE of your antique folk songs. Maker, you had them on REPEAT since Ord Mantell!!!”

“WHY? They are entertaining AND educational.” Tech attempted to explain.

“Can we PLEASE have a break from something...educational?” Hunter threw in his opinion.

“How EXACTLY do you suggest we decide on WHO picks the music selection.” Tech groused openly.

“Hammer, Datapad, Cutting Torch!” Wrecker blurted out. “READY!”

“I’m NOT getting involved.” Hunter leaned back to watch the shenanigans.

“One, two...” Wrecker started

“Wait! This is completely arbitrary. Echo...YOU CANNOT USE YOUR SCOMP...it is UNFAIR!” Tech tried to stop the process but couldn’t catch himself from mimicking his brothers and sister’s hand signals.

“THREE!!!” Wrecker bellowed.

Three hands and a scomp slammed onto the table.

“I WIN!!!” Omega yelled with glee.

“Ugh...WHY are we resorting to childish games of chance to make decisions???” Tech rolled his eyes. “Because...” Echo bumped him “It’s fun!”

“Hand it over!” Omega wriggled her fingers at Tech’s datapad.

Tech sighed and handed it over. Omega scrolled through playlists to find “her music.”

Mad leaned into Hunter and laughed “You guys REALLY are siblings...”

“Heh, this beats the OTHER childish game we used to do...were MUCH younger then...” Hunter trailed off.

“Should I ask?” Mad was curious.

“I DEFINITELY wanna know!” Sil leaned in.

Tech perked up “As young cadets we would urinate off the platforms of Kamino into the ocean to see who could eliminate the furthest.”

EVERYONE around the table gave Tech a dead eyed stare...except for Hunter who chuckled, and Wrecker...

“I could pee the FURTHEST!” He preened proudly. “Crosshair was the MOST ACCURATE if we threw something in the water for target practice!!!”

Good ole’ Crossy, Hunter thought. He was SUCH a HOOLIGAN!

Omega’s hand shot up in embarrassment. “I. Uh...wasn't involved AT ALL!”

Echo eyed his brothers strangely “Yeah, glad I missed THAT one, too.”

“As I recall Hunter and I were neck and neck as far as distance.” Tech reminisced.

“Uh...huh...that’s NOT weird...” Echo quirked an eyebrow at them.

“Was all fun and games until we did it on a windy day. Really spoiled it.” Hunter joked.

Sil couldn’t hold back “It TOOK a windy day for you guys to figure that out???” Then burst out laughing.

Mad snorted with glee.

Love returned to the table and tossed two decks of cards onto the table. Tonight we play CUTTHROAT!

“OH! Haven’t played this since my Academy days!” Echo excitedly blurted.

“What’s Cutthroat?” Wrecker asked. Tech leaned in to listen curiously.

Mad interrupted “If you play this on the Beldame, there are Special House Rules. We are a betting House, and we add new rules ALL the time. Keeps the game fresh and everyone ready to play like a...”

“CUTTHROAT!!!” Sil yelled with a crazed expression.

Love pumped their fist in the air.

“OHHH YEAHHH!!!” Wrecker shouted excitedly. They had gotten HIS attention.

“Sounds Intriguing. I’m in.” Tech excitedly pulled out the cards from the box and started to shuffle them.

Omega put on her tunes and turned up the datapad’s volume to max, which wasn’t much with all the talking and noise.

“Omega, hand that to me. I’ll plug it into our speaker system.” Mad offered.

The brothers stopped stunned.

Mad smirked. “Hey, we LOVE our music...and Uncle Taavi installed them all over the ship BEFORE he gave it to us.”

She got up, set the datapad into a docking station and jacked into the Beldame’s sound system. Upbeat pop/club music emanated through the ship with a crisp bass beat.

“NICE!” Wrecker and Echo jammed to the beat.

Tech bobbed his head and tapped his feet while taking instructions from Sil on dealing cards. Omega and Love were teamed up with love hovering behind to oversee and instruct her on gameplay.

“You guys in?” Sil asked Hunter and Mad.

Hunter nodded “I’ll pass this time. Think someone is getting sleepy.”

“I’m not sleepy...just...don’t want to do anything that requires TOO much thinking.” Mad mumbled.

“Suit yourself. Gonna be a WILD game. These guys are CRAZY!!!” Sil seemed genuinely excited and happy.

Hunter and Mad leaned back cuddling in their seats watching the game.

And, true to Sil’s observation, the game was indeed WILD! It started out as each person having their own hand, then as players had to fold, those “out” chose sides. As it progressed, snacks and drinks broke out. Kid friendly drinks for Sil, Love, and Omega. Spotchka for everyone else, which worked to their advantage, as the kids seemed to be whipping the adult's butts.

Tiggy had awakened, wandering around the table begging...

...she was also an effective card mule. Both sides covertly tucked cards into her collar as she crawled under the table to deliver them...and was rewarded with a treat.

The Betting Pile was indeed growing larger as time went on: Credits, a bar of expensive Coruscant chocolate, death sticks that SOMEONE stole from the secret compartments (nobody on the Beldame smoked, but Mad always kept a couple cartons for trading purposes when they ran out of credits), Lula, Echo’s scomp, a full roll of toilet paper, and other odd assorted objects that made NO sense whatsoever. Wrecker helped Echo with his cards since...he was down one working appendage. Tech tried to use his vast intellect and strategy, but The House Rules befuddled his Spotchka infused brain.

“Hunky...” Mad whispered.

“Hmm?” He hummed into her hair.

“I’m gonna go lay down.”

“You ok?” He seemed concerned. She seemed more tired than usual...and his senses picked up a slight difference in her body chemistry the last 48 standard hours during the time she had passed out.

“Yeah. Not really tired...just...I don’t know.”

“You want me to come with you?”

Mad smiled. “I SHOULD say stay and watch the game or play a hand.” Then she stopped, concentrating...

“Hey...” Hunter noticed an uptick in her heartbeat, then caught a faint whiff of... “Oh...hey...”

Mad smiled recognizing Hunter’s expression “Yeah...horny...kinda out of nowhere.”

“Well, let’s get you to bed.”

Hunter helped Mad stand. “Lads, kiddos, we’re off to bed.”

“Goodnight, all” Mad nodded.

Everyone bade them goodnight as Hunter and Mad made their way towards Mad’s stateroom. The whoops and hollers amid dance music intensified as Echo gained some ground, but Omega blocked him with a hidden card.

“Hunter?” Tech had left the table and followed them.

Hunter turned to see his brother’s expression slightly uncomfortable, yet soft. He could smell the booze on Tech’s breath.

“Eh, what is it, Tech?”

“I... uh...need to speak to you...privately.” Tech shifted pushing his goggles up the bridge of his nose.

Hunter turned back to Mad “Go ahead and get comfortable. I’ll be in shortly.”

Mad nodded. “Goodnight, Tech.” Then wandered into her cabin, closing the door.

“Goodnight Maadienne.” Tech flustered, realizing he had called Mad by her “proper name” NOT the one she preferred.

When he had Hunter’s full attention, Tech reached down under an instrument panel, pulling out a small metal box and handed it to him.

Hunter, awaiting an explanation and getting none, opened it...

(Sun and Moon Show Rant #3: Poor Eclipse (AND WTF SUN AND MOON?!))

Wow, since my last rant, it has been proven that Ruin is indeed up to no good but his reasoning I had was partially proven to be correct and I never got to even post that theory here so I'm sobbing... (Not as hard as Solar's death made me sob LMAO). Also, Moon apologized to him and I loved that!

ANYWAY, ON TO THE ACTUAL RANT

Last time I was going on about how I didn't like Moon's treatment of Ruin during the arc where they were looking for who made Eclipse (before he was proven guilty, I mean). Well his treatment of ECLIPSE is even worse! I should've also been going "POOR ECLIPSE!"

But, like, seriously man...poor Eclipse. Like actually. I get that he did some bad things about two lives ago and that he's very prickly and snarky but, like, Sun and Moon's family (except for Earth and Solar) have proven to not be the better people during this arc!

When given the opportunity to prove that they are above Eclipse, they've immediately taken the plunge to show they are lower than what you'd come to expect of them. Sun, who was starting to actually have an arc where he realized how screwed up it was to kill others and how he wanted to redeem others, told Eclipse to kill himself! Since waking up Eclipse has only, what, kidnapped Ruin and forced Solar and Moon to do a puzzle? Oh, and he has said a few salty things, though those aren't worth mentioning since none of what he has said to anyone has been as bad as telling someone to off themselves. They also mentioned hoping he'd killed himself when he had been caught in Ruin's little trap.

He's constantly being told that nobody loves him and the world would be better off with him dead. The people telling him this are supposed to be the people we're rooting for...but every time they interact with Eclipse I find myself wishing he'd stand up for himself and not take the verbal as well as physical abuse (on Moon and Lunar's behalf with the shocking and killing things) that he has been given.

Everyone has proven that they are no morally superior than he is. He hates them because of a grudge he has and they hate them because of a grudge they have. He has acted on his grudge in the past and they didn't like it much and constantly pointed out how evil it was but now they are doing the exact same thing! It feels like they are now the villains and he is the hero. Heck, he even pointed them in the right direction that could've saved Solar and Moon treated him like dogshit for believing it was him in the first place!

Moon felt guilt when he found out that all this happened due to Old Moon abandoning Eclipse in his eyes and he was even going to apologize to Eclipse but he told him to kill himself in today's episode so he must not feel that bad about it.

On the bright side of things: Only Earth treats Eclipse with kindness. feel like this will be important to Eclipse's redemption arc. She is kind to him and feels sorry for the things he's been subjected to and the fact he is all alone. She doesn't hate him or wish him harm and I think he's warming up to her slowly, realizing she truly is different from the others (even in his own words!). I really, truly hope she is going to become an important part of his redemption arc.

I would like there to be a scene where Earth catches wind of the things people say to Eclipse and just loses it. I mean she is very emotionally vulnerable at the moment and she seems to be on the verge of snapping and shouting at someone. She was distraught when she saw Lunar kill Eclipse and admitted that she felt a sense of closure when he came back to life and she got to see him in person again. I feel like she'd not be pleased to hear that people have been telling this guy to kill himself when he has simply been nothing more than a harmless, spicy dude hanging around this arc. This, coupled with the fact she actually lost someone, makes me feel like she wouldn't have it if she heard someone tell Eclipse these things or even hear someone say "nobody loves you" as an insult when he's just there!

He has died a few times now. His last death was one of the most painful ways someone in this series has gone...and he came back to life immediately with the memory. His death before that was actually him trying to warn Sun and Moon of the dangers of Lunar and the Astral Bodies and he had been tricked. It had been the one time he'd tried helping someone and he paid the ultimate price because he couldn't get them to trust him due to his snarky personality still being prevalent.

He has suffered so much this arc and even Lunar's trauma can't compare anymore. He killed and hit Lunar, right? Well, Lunar electrocuted him to death and admitted he fantasized about killing him. He made others dislike Sun and Moon and somewhat contributed to the death of Old Moon, right? Well, he has died twice since then and now everyone hates him and tells him the world would be better off without him. He was also used as a pawn to distract them because their hatred of him was so strong that Ruin knew he could use their hatred as a distraction.

His simple existence now causes people to verbally abuse him in heinous ways. He can't just stand somewhere without someone being absolutely awful. Yet he never loses his temper or uses the magic he was given against them. He just says some snarky things and brushes off their words. What he did in the past was bad but he didn't exactly intend on returning and he's just stuck here. People can deal with it as they will but them saying to kill himself doesn't make them better than him, that's for sure.

Thankfully, Earth treats him like a person. She's the only one who does. I really, really hope that this is important for his arc. I hope they have more interactions and I hope he can actually become closer to her. It's wishful thinking on my behalf to think that she will witness him being verbally abused and step in but you never know. She knows he feels abandoned as well.

I also theorize he's bringing back Solar. I might save that for another post. If he does, I hope it makes everyone realize that he has changed and that they were out of line with the things he said. I really hope they do realize that they have mistreated him as bad (if not worse) than he has mistreated them, especially Moon in particular, who knows he feels abandoned by his former self.

This leads me to something that I'll save for another rant but Moon keeps feeling guilty for things and then repeats them without thinking about it after. Like, he says he feels bad for how his past self abandoned Eclipse or he feels bad for how he keeps being a dick to others but he keeps mistreating them. So uhh yeah.

With MK's complacency, I will say that I think he's always been complacent in some way. Like it's definitely morphed into what you've described, but overall I think MK was never someone with high aspirations. He was always someone completely fine with being a noodle delivery boy, someone completely fine with what his life was before becoming the Monkey King's successor. And he's so real for that honestly

- The Secretive Plotter has been having a "domiti why not me" moment for the entire round so far so he sends kdj to kill him in the 1863rd round in such a way that yjh doesn't regress ever again but with the ulterior motive of ensuring that 1863!yjh doesn't become him in the present thereby erasing his existence (rip)

Except that just results in kdj creating both him and the current yjh, neither of which would have happened if he didnt sent kdj out in the first place thus resulting in all of his problems.

- Secretive Plotter also sent out hsy#2 to his round and she ended up becoming one of the things that caused the entire story to happen to begin with. Thus resulting in both his existence and all his problems by extension.

- tl;dr, secretive plotter fucked up his plotting so bad that it literally became the cause of all of his problems. and everyone else's problems by extension bc protagonist.

- The fact that everything is in a time loop

- The multiverse and also the fact that jaehwan is in it too

- kdj was in the subway for over 21,763 years mind if i cry

- sooyoung and junghyeok share the love language of chokehold

- hsy @ dokkaebi king: "yeahh so about the apocalypse. could you like,, not..?" or smthng like that

- everything is happening at the same time. bro. bro.

- anna croft was born in las vegas. i did not know you could be born in las vegas. i did not know that ppl actually gave birth in las vegas bc the first thing their baby would probably smell would be cigarette smoke and it would probably develop epilepsy or sumn from all the lights

- that one scene where jhw shoots up with her angel wings, hsy rides a dragon up into the sky, and yjh walks on air or something like that shit was cold

- the potential of a golden eye edit with yjh bc of his transcender eye AND IT SHOULD HAPPEN ALREADY

- kdj just having been a constellation this whole time and an incarnation the whole time as well. he kinda had the pain from both sides :(((

- hsy casually being rich asf pre apocalypse AND A NEPO BABY TOO

- the entire book was just a bunch of people ((well mostly just the two)) faced with a trolly problem on a multi-global scale, AND THEY STILL chose the one guy because he meant that damn much to them.

- Yjh misunderstanding Sangja and going, "You have a woman you l o v e" and shitittt

- That scene where yjh met btsss and just immediately ran away

- kyrgios and ngmy being exes. bro wanted a giant woman (allll you wanna do. is see me turn intooooo) and got the giantest. other bro w wanted a short king and got the shortest. they took height difference to the extreme.

- ljh calling ngmy "Grand-Master" LIKE GRANDMA BC SHE WAS YJH'S MASTER AWWDUSHDEHA

Sorry It took this long I forgot to save my file so I have to rewrite it again but I decided to make it longer as an apology. But here it is finally.

Part 2...

Everyone was in awe seeing the incredibly large dragon Grimm he just summoned. Behind the dragon guarding the summoner. Weiss is currently being held hostage by him. Her sword the Myrtenaster has been taken away from her and her hand bound by some sort of bind made out of ice.

Ruby: Let Go Of Weiss!!! 😫

??? : This is a family matter. Leave us alone or I swear you will wish you haven't intervene.

Jaune: This is your dad speaking if you don't let go of Weiss young man will be grounded for a long time.

??? : Father... Did you seriously think grounding me is going to work?

Weiss: Why on earth do you think that will work?!

Jaune: Look. I'm trying okay!

Weiss: Well try harder you dunce!

??? : *smack* Do I need to remind you that you are a hostage.

Weiss: You hit me?.. How can you hit me I'm your mother!

??? : *punch* 👊 Anything else you like to add. "Mother?"

Everyone: Weiss!!!

Yang: That's it. That SOB is going down... Oops I didn't mean that Weiss!

Blake: Anyway. How do we even get past that Dragon?

Dusk: I'm scared mommy....

Blake: Its okay darling. I'll keep you safe.

Aurum: Allow me... *unsheate sword*

Ruby: Oh that sword looks awesome. 🤤 I mean, have you seen that Dragon. How are you going to go against that? 😵

Aurum: Rest assure Aunt Ruby. My blade the Prominence Flame can cut through anything and there's a reason why I'm called the dragonslayer.

??? : Now that's an arrogance if I say so myself. And I should know. I came from the Schnee's household.

Aurum: You! Tell me your name so I at least know the name of my foe.

??? : Are you stupid or something. Why on earth would I do that? You know what, judging by your getup you probably are one. I mean, golden armor? What kind of thought that goes inside your head to think it's a good idea?

Aurum: My golden armor serves to inspire the men and women under my command. It is symbol of hope, It is a promise that as long as I'm here my ally will have nothing to fear and my enemy will know that I will never be defeated. For I am Aurum Arc. Son of the great Jaune Arc and captain of the Arc Knight. I will say this again tell me your name?

??? : A Knight? How antiquated. Very well since you ask so nicely. My name is Victor Sch... Arc, Victor Arc.

Aurum: Then Victor Arc. Release Weiss Schnee at once this is your last chance.

Victor: Well Sir, Knight unfortunately. I won't. You see dear old mother and me have an unfinished problem. And sir, Knight what if I told you that by killing her you can save countless people in the processes. And what if I told you she will be responsible for numerous atrocities. That I would risk my own existence to try and kill her should be proof of that.

Weiss: ... No, that's not true! That can't possibly be right...

Scarlett: Yeah that's a load of baloney. The Miss Schnee I know is a really nice lady. And she and her husband mister Neptune always treat me to ice cream whenever I come to visit. 😫

Aurum: And the Weiss Schnee I knew married Ruby Rose. So she can't possibly have a son.

Ruby: Wait what!? I mean I don't swing that way, maybe I just don't know it yet and I kinda think some women are nice to look at... I mean no. I only like Jaune okay!!! 😖

Blake: Wait could it be that Jaune didn't actually have children with everyone of us in the future. Maybe all the childrens are from different timeline.

Yang: Wait so Jaune didn't really going to knock us up in the future? Phewww! I'm glad I didn't smash Jaune's family jewels. I mean the idea of Jaune having a harem with us is ridiculous.

Jaune: That's what I keep telling you!

Ruby: I knew it! There's no way Jaune would cheat on me! So Victor that means you can let Weiss go. Because she's not your Weiss. 😌

Victor: Oh of course! Here let me let her go... Did you really think it will be that simple. We don't know that for certain. I'm still here meaning that she still able to give birth to me. If there's a different timeline that means there are other Weiss I just need to kill as many as I can until I found the right one. If I get the wrong one at least I will get the satisfaction of killing her.

Ruby: You're insane! Give us back our Weiss! 😩

Victor: That's because you don't know how evil my mother is! Did you know that Ruby Rose died in my world. Under my mother's order I killed her using this same sword I hold now. That should give you an idea why I want her dead. If I can at least prevent another death by killing her I would do it. Even if I have to kill as many Weisses as I can.

Ruby: I died... 😶

Yang: But that's not our Weiss even if she is. That's a different Weiss. And that doesn't give you the right to end her life.

Aurum: Mother do not waste thine breath. He have already made up his mind to kill Weiss. What he's doing now is trying to find justification to do it.

Victor: Oh turns out you are smarter than you look. My offers still stand step aside and let me finish her and I will let you all live. Don't. And I will kill everyone here... I see there's no one here with a common sense. Fafnir, kill 'em all.

The blade then starts to glow brighter and hotter until the heat are fully concentrated in the sword. Aurum then closes in on the Dragon and effortlessly cuts it into multiple pieces. The scene of a knight cutting a dragon with ease looks like something out of a picture book that Ruby used to read as a child.

Victor : What the Fuc*!!! How is that even possible?! Fafnir are among my strongest summoned Grimm.

Scarlett: OMG so awesome 👁️👄👁️

Yang: Wow, so that's my son. Maybe I should consider dating Jaune if my kid can become badasses like him.

Jaune: Weiss is right there's no way he could be my son.

Aurum: I'm still not as strong as my father it seems... Release Weiss Schnee at once. Vile fiend!

Victor : No... She's rather useful to me unfortunately.

Aurum: Hiding behind a hostage. Have you no shame, fiend?!

Victor : It's called strategy dumbfuc* if you think I'm going to give up my only leverage then you are indeed just as dumb as I thought initially.

With a swing of his sword he summons multiple Glyphs on the ground to summoned Grimms. At first it's ten, then tens of ten then hundreds and finally thousands. The Grimm he summoned looks like a smaller version of an Arma Gigas with different weapons.

Weiss: No, it's impossible... No one can summon this many Grimms without their Aura running out ages ago.

Victor: My personal limit is 10 thousands, right now though I only summoned 2000. I think I can summon more, but I never had to on the account that my enemy tends to be dead before I need to summon more.

Weiss: But how is that even possible?

Victor: You can thanked dear old father for that.

Weiss: And why do you need to summon so many Grimms. There's no war in Remnant?

Victor: ...There's no war in yours, but there's one in mine.

Weiss: What?

Victor: Enough. Stay and watch everyone die. Geisttroopers forward. Infantry at the front and ranged units at the back. Kill everyone on sight but spare Father. He doesn't deserve to die...

Ruby: There's so many of them. 😫

Yang: C'mon Ruby. We can do it. You can take a few hundred over there. I'll take a few hundred over here.

Blake: Get behind me Dusk I'll keep you safe.... Dusk? Where are you Dusk?!

Jaune: Oh no, we're bad parents!

Scarlett: I'm good but even I don't think I can beat this many. Hey bigger bro can you help me beat them? 😉

Aurum: Of course little sister. With us working together nothing can stop us.

Victor: Now watch mother as my troops will finish off your friends... What the Fuc*!

Aurum: Huzzah! *melted through all of the Geisttroopers like it was made of butter*

Scarlett: Hyah! *hack and scythe through the Geisttroopers* 😈

Yang: I guess we don't have to do anything. Geez what do they feed children in the future?

Ruby: Oh! My daughter are so awesome. And look at Scarlett's weapon. Is that an upgraded form of Crescent Rose? 😍

Scarlett: That's right mom. This is Crescent Rose mk. 20. We made this weapon together. It can switch between scythe and voulge. And not only that it can switch between three different gun type. 🤓

Ruby: AHHH!!! My daughter is so awesome! And we share the same interest. 🤯 Jaune when we come back. We better start making her. I won't take no for an answer.

Jaune: Ruby please don't joke around! We need to save Weiss first. And then find Dusk because we can't find her.

Blake: In case you were wondering we didn't lose her. And we're not bad parent.

Ruby: (Who says I'm joking 😏) Oh no that's terrible. Let me cheer you up later Jaune... In my room. 🤫

Victor: How. How!? Each of my Geisttroopers are as strong as a veteran huntsman. There's no way they can be defeated this easily by just the two of them?

Weiss: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...

Victor: Anything you like to say mother?

Weiss: Oh I was wondering how long does it take for you to notice that I'm no longer in bondage.

Weiss shows off her hands to show to him that she's free. Victor then looks for her sword and realizes that her sword is floating in mid air but then it's quickly revealed that the floating sword was merely being held by a faunus child.

Victor: Invisibility Semblance. That's a neat trick there, kid. You must be Blake Belladonna's daughter?

Dusk: Please call off your monsters. Mister that looks like my daddy...

Victor: I'm sorry kid but I can't. I'm sorry. But I will spare you too at least.

Weiss: Yeah, my sentiment exactly. *slash*

Victor: *parry* Oh please, mother do you think I don't see your surprise attack. You're the one that taught me that. "Strike the enemy when they're distracted Victor."

Weiss: Don't call me that I'm not your Mother! And you're not my son!

Victor: Well let put those theory to rest. If I kill you and I disappear then I'm right and if I killl you and I didn't disappear then I will admit I was wrong.

Weiss: I'll still die regardless!

Victor: Oh. What will be, will be.

The two then continue to trade insults and slashes with one another. Myrtenaster and Myrtenaster clash with one another. Mother and her supposed son will battle until one of them die. Their sword fighting left Dusk in awe. Weiss's form are beautiful and elegant while Victor's form are fast and brutal.

Weiss: Hah! Such brutish way of fighting are not what I expected from a Schnee.

Victor: Typical mother, never satisfied with everything I did. Even when I did your bidding. You know you always complained about grandfather but you are just the same as him as it turns out.

Weiss: Don't you dare compares me to my father!!!

Victor: And mother. The reason my swordplay are not as refined as yours is because my sword are not for ballroom dancing but made for actual war. *grabs her hand and slash her through her aura*

Weiss: AHHHH!!!! *slumps on the ground in pain*

Victor: Can't have you die yet. I need to make you understand what you did to me.

Weiss: HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!

Victor: I see you have lost your mind...

Weiss: Ha... No. But I will admit that you are my son. You are just as ruthless, vindictive and cunning as I am. If you were my father's son he would have been proud of you.

Victor: Is there a point to this?

Weiss: But what I will not accept is that you are Jaune's son! Jaune is weak, he is a dunce, he is unreliable, but he is kind to a fault, he always put others before himself, he especially will never say such harmful things to me and hurt me in anyway. And that is why I Love him!!!

Dusk: 😱

Victor: Is that all? Very well... What the heck is that!

Jaune: Move out of the way!!!

Victor sees his father flying or more like thrown his way most likely by the golden giant. He did as his father said and moves slightly off the way of the speeding Jaune and so he crashed near him.

Aurum: Excellent thinking father! By screaming loudly at the enemy you managed to grab his attention so he will leave Weiss alone.

Jaune: *grunt in pain* yep totally was planning that...

Weiss: Jaune I knew you... I mean what took you so long you doofus!!?

Victor: Father! What on earth were you thinking you could have killed yourself!

Jaune: Look. I don't know what happened between you and Weiss. But I'm not going to let you kill her. If there's a problem we can help you. You don't have to hurt her or do it alone.

Aurum: Father is right. Little brother whatever it is we can help you.

Victor: I am not your brother! Fath... No Jaune you don't get to act like a father when my own father were never there and stop my mother!

Jaune: Never there?... I died in your timeline aren't I?

Weiss: No... It can't be.

Everyone: 😯

Victor: How did you know?

Jaune: Because you just said that I was never there. Which only mean two things. Either I left you and Weiss or that I died. And since I will never abandon my family that can only mean that I died.

Weiss: How did it happened?

Victor: I guess everyone deserves to know the truth... Mom the truth is you destroyed the world.

I have this on CD lol. This is very special to me because this is one of my favorite movies ever, and a college friend gifted it to me when she had to move cities. I put it on while reading because the vibes are just delectably evil and eerie 🖤

This plays throughout the opening scene of the movie and is just deliciously dark, the swelling crescendo with the choir and sinister whispering gives me goosebumps everytime. It's also perfect for imagining your oc's going through their villain/corruption arc hehe

I don't know what it is about this album, but something in it just scratches my brain right. The sound is very synth-y, but there's a lot of sax and sample overlays that I really like. The whole theme is about death and dissatisfaction with where you are at the moment.

sobbing and crying i cannot be called a kyle authority because i have basically only read him in green lantern 1990 and countdown. and i read countdown before gl90 so i dont even remember how good his characterization was in that fhasdkjfhsajdf

BUT. that will never stop me from being annoying about him. gl90 is all i need i refuse to read anything else. heres a reading guide that has a lot of good stuff on it but uhh i havent read everything on that #lol

#153 (this one is just adorable i love fhdakhfbdfa calm before the storm)

#154-155 (the storm. hate crime arc, very sad so tw for uhhh homophobic hate crimes. but its a good arc)

can i be honest i dont remember any of the rest of the issues really grabbing my attention. there are good moments (#157 my beloved) but no issues stand out hfksadjhfa

also i was so upset by the ending of this run the first time i read it. i have no problem with sad endings to stories but this one made me so upset and i still havent gotten over it. it ends with him losing all the friends he had on earth and going "well im off to space forever now" and i dont know why i reacted so terribly to it but i remember pouting about it for like 2 days

anyways outside of gl1990 i think green lantern: circle of fire is 1000000% worth reading (honestly i only read the first issue, the only with alex & kyle, and the last issue and i got all the important stuff). also completely unbiased and totally no ulterior motivation of new titans #126 (where he just happens to have a rly sweet interaction with rose.....)

i hope this helps u at all <3 i honestly recommend reading all of green lantern 1990 (or well. starting at #48) because its mostly really fun and has a lot of good moments <3333 and if anyone has more kyle recommendations please feel more than welcome to drop them

Organizing my thoughts on OFMD 2x01 - 2x03

Strong start to a season. I really enjoy the black comedy aspect of the show, and the "all these people are kinda terrible" aspect, so win for me! The opening scene gave me a lot of thoughts. Actually, lots of stuff gave me thoughts that I'm gonna dump here (as I rewatch the episodes since I spent the first go around whooping and cheering more than paying attention to details lol) so I can start picking through them more coherently.

Ok, first. OHMYGOD EDWARD AND IZZ- *I am yanked off the stage* Ahem. BlackHands thoughts will go into a different post, so as not to overwhelm the many other things going on worth discussing. (Link to post)

So. Real first point:

Kraken Era

Big thing I was absolutely wrong about was how dark Edward's Kraken arc would go. I was counting on a very handwavy resolution that would still let him do some fucked up shit, but I expected it to be mostly externally directed violence that toed up to a potential line but didn't quite cross it. Reminiscent of Flint's vengeance rampage after Miranda is killed. Self-destructive harm but only tangential harm of others in your social sphere.

That is... we did not get that. But what we did get I am very here for.

I'll be honest - I wasn't sure they were bold enough in a romcom to blast right over the line into horrifying and then be so audacious it looped back to funny, but they did. And I think the tone is working for them so far. Big saving grace is they went way further with Edward's cruelty but they counterbalanced it by going way further with the suicidal themes, which made the whole situation more extreme and sympathetic. He should still probably apologize tho.

The Breakup Boat

Frenchie my beloved! Also Fang & Jim & Archie & Izzy! Literally the breakup boat is a resounding success all around and I adore every second of their fucked up trauma bonding. Win after win after win.

Frenchie is repression king and it's hilarious. I love how he gets named first mate for presumably being the only one who sounds plausibly honest when getting interrogated, tries to turn the job down, and then doesn't follow a single order while vibing. Also the bonding with Izzy?!? He's steps in during the intervention. He hides him after Edward shoots him, and then later he's checking in on him and leaning against his leg in the cell. Please Frenchie get all up in that Edward and Izzy mess!

And I'm trying not to turn this into a breakup boat recap but also Fang sobbing through basically every scene. The wooden boy story. Jim's terrible voices. Izzy hiding in the walls. "He's our dick" to "He was your friend" holy fuckkkkkk. And the whole mutiny scene was amazing. Jim saying fuck this toxic bullshit and Izzy saving them all!!! (Sidenote: love how all the nameless extras got washed overboard in the storm. More bodycount!)

The tearing into a seagull like zombies scene - perfect. Archie recognizing Stede (did they tell her about Stede in hushed whispers or was it literally just Izzy's singular statement?). All backing each other up on the "retirement" story. Izzy taking the blame to motivate Stede in trying to defend the crew again.

Trauma bonding WIN!

Also sympathetic Izzy has been real forever despite misreads of S1 and the mistaken predictions they spawned, but once again... Izzy!!!

BlackBonnet "On A Break"

They are idealizing each other so fucking hard. Also Stede what on earth are you talking about in the first episode??? "He's just blowing off some steam." "I'm afraid that your life is better without me?" MY GUY are you reading that list of what Edward has been up to??? Denial so strong.

So we have Stede still full of self-loathing and simultaneously convinced Ed couldn't want him but also avoiding the realization that he hurt him really bad because Ed wanted him. And we have Edward actively suicidal over feeling unlovable and determined to murder-suicide his situationship and the kids, except he can't kill himself so he's trying to make everyone else do it.

(And, you know, Edward is very pointedly refusing to see how the people around him would care for and support him if he would let them - even when they straight up offer it to his face - because he is more concerned with the misery of his own twisted narrative about being fundamentally unlovable than whether or not that is a true statement. Stede doesn't want him and everyone else is just a prop for his depression's final act. Very "I don't have any friends" of him - shoutout to that flashback in his purgatory sequence too.)

Edward's self-loathing throwing him into the water, but Edward starting to save himself well before merman!Stede shows up. Because he does, deep down, want to live with or without Stede. Very strong. Like that. Also the idealization on Edward's end of envisioning Stede as a legit magical being of golden scales??? Fuck, you two need to get some perspective.

Stede's Crew

Trauma Lucius I was not counting on, but Lucius going from BlackBonnet supporter to FUCK YOU STEDE was fun. Also Stede offering to be supportive and then immediately trying to nope right out.

Sea Witch Buttons!!!!!! We're going to get naked Buttons charging into a scene screaming about how he's a seagull or something, aren't we?

Confirmation that Oluwande can't read in the funniest way. Well I guess on reflection the scrolls are probably in Chinese so reading wouldn't help, so maybe this point is null.

I did like the note of Stede knowing "The Soul Reaper's" real name. Piracy hyperfixation bonus.

JimOlu vs JimArchie... If we get another poly ship then I'm calling SteddyHands real. I'm just saying.

Oluwande taking initiative to step up and flex his boytoy powers to advocate diplomatically for the crew - very Captain material of him. Also conveniently doubled as a distraction so he was essential to the plan. Go Olu!

Antagonists New and Old!

Spanish Jackie was a treat. I enjoy that she still hates Stede. The Swede literally became a new man by marrying her. AND WE SAW THE HUSBANDS!

Prince Ricky is so far just kind of a shady classist scumbag - presumably that's going somewhere.

Zheng Yi Sao on the other hand... interested what's happening with this whole armada plan she's apparently enacting. The whole Olu boytoy arc was fun. I'm not as into the whole "girlboss" approach to every single female character in this show so far, so, uh, concerned about that. Hoping for more exploration of how she's doing Stede's version of piracy but what exactly is off about it? Because so far there's no real reason to resist her, other than maybe the whole "I didn't conquer China by listening to pirates ramble about their feelings" bit.

Weekly Reading Update (06/23/24)

Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler (8/10)

This was my first ever Octavia E. Butler book, and it didn't disappoint! The way this story used Anyanwu and Doro's relationship to comment on power dynamics and issues in the world at large blew my mind; I found the discussion of eugenics particularly interesting. They were both such intensely flawed yet compelling characters. This book skirts the line between fantasy and sci-fi (something I'm looking into for my thesis as a peripheral issue), and it definitely made me wonder about the world. I wasn't aware going in that this was a prequel situation, but even then I do think I was a bit dissatisfied with how things left off. That's just my personal taste though.

Haikyuu!! Vol. 41 and 42 by Haruichi Furudate (10/10)

It usually takes me around half an hour or so to get through a volume of manga, but these took me a couple of hours. Why? Because I had to keep putting it down because I was crying so hard I couldn't breathe. As someone who has read a plethora of books ever since I was young, it takes a lot to get me to cry, especially that hard. I was sobbing. Furudate has created such wonderful characters and then puts them through so many struggles that I can't even be mad about because it's highly realistic that someone pursuing a sport would run into this! Seeing Hinata break down followed instantly by the third years graduating and the Brazil arc had me miserable in the best way possible. I usually never rate manga or graphic novels five stars because they're usually super fast-paced and so much relies on writing style for me when I read novels, but this just broke me.

Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter (46%)

This is a very cute book so far. I could probably tell you exactly what's going to happen from this point onward, but it's a genre convention for romcoms to be predictable. Liz is a fun protagonist; she's quirky in a way that has a reason and isn't annoying. There's good chemistry between the leads with some great banter, and you really can't ask for more than that. However, I will say the constant song references are starting to irk me, especially with the lyrics included in the writing --I don't know, it just reminds me too strongly of my early fanfiction years.

Moon Rising by Tui T. Sutherland (45%)

If there's one thing about me, I love a mind-reading protagonist. Moonwatcher is probably my favorite perspective of the Wings of Fire series, even if I wish she'd speak up sometimes. Sutherland did a great job making her similar to Starflight, since they're the same tribe, without being a carbon copy, and while mind reading might seem a little too omniscient, her inexperience and general social ineptitude keep it from becoming overpowered. I'm thrilled to see the return of Peril, whose story is left open from the previous arc, and I'm excited to learn more about the other new characters (Winter, Qibli, and I believe Turtle) who have their own interesting introductions.

The Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien (43%)

Despite my fantasy obsession, this is my first time reading The Lord of the Rings (though I have read The Hobbit). While it is definitely much slower-paced than the average modern fantasy, I'm enjoying myself so much. If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know I'm a worldbuilding nut, so this is like my dream book. There are so many tangents to tell stories about the history of Middle Earth and all the goings-on of the world, and I keep noticing little details and wishing they'd talk about those too. Tolkien is also a rather funny writer; Bilbo's passive aggression in particular made me giggle. While this a bit of a dense story, it's definitely living up to its reputation so far.

Boys With Sharp Teeth by Jenni Howell (42%)

This is a project for my part-time job, so I'm not sure how much I can actually divulge, but let me just say this: this book is compared to The Raven Boys in its summary, and it's living up to that.

Her Wolves by G. Bailey (7%)

I won't lie, the writing of this book so far does not give me hope. However, it could still be a fun read even if the grammar and syntax aren't the best. Also, funny thing, this book is set in the future on Earth. I did not know this. I thought it was a high fantasy. So imagine my surprise to see a landmass labeled "America Court" on the map. My misunderstanding was cleared up soon, but it still made me laugh.
