HOW I’VE BEEN SUCESSFULLY LOSING WEIGHT: Notes from a former binge eater ♥️
*this guide is to show how ~I~ do things and offer advice on how to do it MY way. I am in no way encouraging anyone to do themselves harm. First off,
HEALTH IS WEALTH.
That being said.. this is literally the longest I’ve ever gone without bingeing. It’s just,,, easy this time. Once you get a feel of what it’s like to be skinny you just don’t crave junk as much anymore bc you KNOW it’s not worth it. The trick is to eat clean 90% of the time and allow your favorite treats 10% do the time. Fit them into your calorie limit!!! Here’s some personal favorites that have helped me lose like 20lbs in the past 2 months.
I tend to do one higher- calorie drink during the day (protein shake, Starbucks, etc) and one healthy filling but low cal meal and a sweet snack at the end of the night.
LOW CALORIE 90%
Mediterranean salad (~150): mixed greens, chopped bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, red onion. Little bit of feta cheese. Balsamic vinegar (not dressing or vinegarette!!!!) I don’t add meat but you could totally add chicken for low cal high protein choice. You could also add olives but I don’t fw them.
Chocolate Protein shakes from the gas station (loll). They’re 220 cal on average and a great treat. Strawberry one is good too.
SEAWEED SNACKS they’re literally 30-60 calories for a pack and kill my urge to eat chips!!! Please give them a try!
Soups. Soups that are already portioned and have the calorie amount posted. I add extra seasonings and spice to boost metabolism.
Coffee!! With almond milk and a little coffee creamer. It’s worth the calories if you want a coffee just make one it’s better than going to Starbucks.
Sushi: I’m vegetarian so I get an avocado and cucumber roll. It’s so good with fresh ginger and a little soy sauce. Sometimes I will be craving it allllllll day and have it as my OMAD so rewarding 🥹
Miso soup>>>>>> add tofu and seaweed and onions!! And mushrooms if you like them.
Monster Ultra energy drinks,,,, yeah I know they’re bad for you but I love them.
Fruits!!! I especially love strawberries, watermelon, cherries, blackberries, pineapple and mangoes.
TREATS 10%
Trail mix: dried cherries, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, cashews. High in calories but perfect for killing hunger. High protein keeps you full and muscles strong, high healthy fats will keep your hair and skin and nails beautiful.
Chocolates: SMALL PORTIONS. if you can’t eat just eat a piece without bingeing, do NOT buy a big bag. what I do is I buy a bar of whatever chocolate I’m craving for my bf and we share it piece by piece. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white, hazelnut, with coffee beans, with toffee, fruits, chocolate is the best thing ever 🍫
Starbucks! My fav drinks are matcha lattes (hot/iced), iced white chocolate mocha, caramel macchiato, and occasionally a pumpkin spice latte. Peppermint mochas on the holidays. Oat milk always
Baked goods. Same deal as the chocolate, ONLY BUY THE PORTION YOURE GOING TO EAT. If you have been craving a croissant, go get one. One. Don’t buy a whole dozen of them. You will end up bingeing trust me. My favs are cinnamon rolls <3
Habits
I’m going to the gym!!! Consistently for the first time in my life. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Spend 30 min on the treadmill alternating between incline walking and easy paced jogging. Put on a YouTube video. Wear pink and bring a cute water bottle. You have to make an experience out of it! I stick to cardio and full body stretches plus ocasional (light) strength workouts w my bf.
I don’t drink anymore. Just 🍃. Alc is so high in sugar and carbs and it’s literally poison bro. I know it’s hard to stop but once you do you’ll feel so much better.
I rarely weigh myself. I’m at my bfs house all the time so I only step on my scale maybe 3 times a month. It’s been a game changer!!!
MINDSET
I practice mindfulness and speak kindly to myself. Basically sweetspo + affirmations to myself all the time.
Taking more pride in your appearance will also help motivate you. You think you’ll still want to binge after you took a full body shower, clean PJ’s or outfit, painted your nails, skincare and makeup done, whitened your teeth and lit a candle? No thanks.
Limit stupid, negative, useless media consumption. Watch things that have to do with your hobbies/ interests and your social media algorithms begin to kinda clean themselves up over time. My pages are all about exercise, study blogs, beauty tips and sciencey stuff. No more drama or celebrity nonsense. Cut down your following!!
Remember you only have one life on earth. You’re young and hot once. Don’t you want to grab this chance while you have it? Unfortunately your beauty is your currency especially as a woman, so if there’s anything I can do to give myself a better life I will. Losing just a few pounds of fat will make the craziest difference in ways you’d never expect. Free and discounted stuff. More people smile at you and listen to what you have to say. Both literal and figurative doors will be opened for you.Clothes fit better bc they’re more flattering when your body is fit and healthy. While it feels good to get validation from other people, the best part of it is looking in the mirror and feeling proud instead of ashamed. The inner confidence that comes from successful transformation………….there’s no other feeling that compares. If you know, you know. I’m just saying,, the choice is yours 🤷🏼‍♀️

Watermelon Salad Spell Recipe - Summer Solstice Feast
Every year, I do a feast for each of the solstices and equinoxes. This is the first recipe for the 2024 Summer Solstice! My main goal for the overall meal is generating energy, preparing for the darkening half of the year, enhancing success for upcoming projects, and celebrating the sun. These themes repeat throughout the meal in a variety of ways.
I always serve seasonal fruits as snacks before a feast, and that’s how this watermelon salad recipe started. Now, I prefer it as a delicious side dish to provide a burst of freshness. It brings a distinctly Summer feeling to the meal that other salads don’t quite manage. I suggest getting fresh, local produce at a farmer’s market or local stall if you can! Local-grown watermelons just hit different.
Ingredients:
1/2 of a Large Watermelon 2 c Fresh Spinach 1/2 c Feta, crumbled 1/8 c Balsamic Vinegar (or to taste)
Instructions:
Wash your spinach and then pat dry.
Cut the watermelon into one-inch cubes.
In a large bowl, toss the watermelon, spinach, and feta together until well combined.
Drizzle with the balsamic vinegar.
Serve immediately. If not serving immediately, wait to drizzle the balsamic vinegar until just before serving and refrigerate the watermelon, spinach, and feta mixture.
Recipe Notes:
I first had this salad at a local sandwich shop one summer. I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s absolutely delicious.
If you don’t like balsamic vinegar, you can omit it. Instead, I would suggest a sprinkling of salt and pepper to give it a little more depth of flavor. You could also use another type of salad dressing, but I would advise against using something with strong flavors that would overwhelm the watermelon flavor.
The amount of feta in the recipe is a suggestion. I often end up adding more than half a cup, because I like it. Half a cup is the minimum amount I would suggest.
This is a must-have in my picnic baskets and at summertime parties. If you’re making this for a crowd, I would suggest doubling the recipe and using a whole watermelon. I tend to go for one without seeds, but you can choose whatever type you prefer.
To make this a more fortifying main dish, I’ve added cubed or shredded chicken to the mix. You could also toss in a bit of tofu if you prefer to keep things vegetarian.
Magic Notes:
Watermelons are about 90% water. This means they have a strong connection to the element of water and its properties. In my practice, this means it has elements of healing, calm, wisdom, and emotion. In particular, also thanks to the color and personally-studied effects, watermelon is useful for workings surrounding romantic love, self love, and joy.
Spinach is my favorite leafy green, and it’s also good for you! I associate it heavily with health and wellness, but it’s lent itself well to workings surrounding wealth and success, too.
Balsamic vinegar is made from grapes! Like wine, it’s an aged product that requires a lot of time and patience before it’s ready to use. And like wine made from grapes, it can be associated with a range of things like love, abundance, and harvest. I find that ingredients which have been aged or which require a long time to produce make excellent contenders for magical workings surrounding hard work and gratitude.
Put them all together (with the rich, salty feta cheese), and you’ve got a recipe that can lend itself toward any number of purposes. For the Summer Solstice, I’m emphasizing the qualities of joy, wellness, and hard work. The idea is to acknowledge the work that’s already been done and prepare for the second half of the year, imparting energy and motivation on whoever eats the salad.
If your watermelon has seeds, you can either leave them in if they won’t bother you, or you can remove the ones you’re able to get to while cutting the melon into cubes. Set them aside to dry slightly, and you’ve got a new component for another spell! Seeds of most sorts are good for blessing new projects or endeavors. Because their fruit is so large, I tend to associate watermelon seeds with bringing about big changes or big successes — new careers, blessing a garden for a large harvest, seeking a new home, and so forth. In my mind, the bigger the goal is, the bigger the seed’s fruit (or plant, if it’s a tree seed) ought to be.
If you enjoyed this recipe or if you plan on using it as part of your own Summer Solstice meal, please consider reblogging or tossing a couple dollars in my tip jar! Doing so has a bonus benefit:

Thank fuck I've now learned to read the whole recipe all the way through before starting...
Tumblr media
Pretty easy one. Didn't expect to be eating it at room temp though.
Tumblr media
Start with summer veg, tomato paste, garlic and thyme. I used my fancy French thyme, obviously.
Tumblr media
All diced to the same size, and only use the outer bits of the eggplant that have skin on them. A waste of an eggplant in my opinion, but those are the instructions.
Sautee the onion and garlic on medium high until soft, season it then add the thyme and tomato paste. Dump that on a sheet pan to cool. Then clean the pan, oil, and sautee each vegetable seperately. Salt and pepper the batches as you go, then dump each on to a sheet pan to cool. Methodical and satisfying.
Tumblr media
Tell me that isn't so fucking satisfying. Now the weird part. Once it's all at room temp, combine with balsamic vinegar (Tony says good quality aged stuff. I saw the Parts Unknown episode in France, I know the quality vinegar he wants. I cannot afford that. So I'm using Kirkland Signature brand), torn basil and a splash more olive oil (I used good Tunisian olive oil, at least).
Tumblr media
Mix thoroughly, cover and sit at room temp for THREE TO FOUR HOURS to allow the flavours to marry. What the fuck. Never in my life have I ever. Then you're expected to serve it at room temp as well. Sure bro.
Tumblr media
I did a simple baked herbed chicken breast as a main, nothing fancy that might outshine the ratatouille itself. Could've used a carb though.
| Ratatouille |
Taste is a 3 out of 5. Fresh and summery.
Difficulty is a 2 out of 5. Knife work and quick sauteeing, pretty straightforward.
Time was like 40 minutes, until the 3-4 hour marinade. Fuck sake.
I completely see why Tony says this isn't a real ratatouille and that his French friends judged him for it.
The veg is supposed to be cooked together into a sort of stew. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to serve it hot. This is an okay side dish, but you make a bunch of extra work for yourself.
It was pretty good eaten cold from the fridge the next day...

Making dinner is, as always, a struggle. I'm doing so much better than I used to, but it still gives me daily anxiety and I have a difficult time with motivation and inspiration. And yet--still I like to eat. And good food at that.
I have so many IRL and online friends who are amazingly talented, creative, and flexible cooks. I wish I had even a fraction of many of your talents! But I can usually follow a recipe, and I have gotten better about the planning that goes into cooking. I try to strike a good balance between ignoring my family's pickiness and accommodating them. I've cooked some good meals lately, many of which are repeat dishes, and I just wanted to record them here. So here's what we've had in the last week and a half or so.
BLTs on sliced sourdough from the grocery store bakery with Caesar salads. I ate the rest of the sourdough toasted with butter over the course of the week and now may have high cholesterol. Worth it.
Balsamic chicken thighs and mushrooms over rice with broccoli . I make this recipe all the time. It's like a sweeter chicken adobo, so Dominic loves it, and my kids like it too. It's just really, really good.
Roasted sweet potato and black bean tacos with a bagged Southwestern style salad. For this dinner I had to modify my kids' plates because they are knuckleheads who won't eat tacos or sweet potatoes or black beans or salad. But this is what I wanted to eat, so I made the exact dinner I wanted for myself. Even though it was an easy meal, it took forever to get all the food on the table. I made my plate last and then dramatically dropped it before I could sit down, creating a HUGE, dangerous mess with shards of plate everywhere. It was VERY sad, I cut my ankle, but Dominic cleaned it up and I made another taco and everything was fine.
Ina Garten's skillet-roasted chicken and potatoes with green beans. I've made this recipe before, and it is WONDERFUL. I skip the buttermilk marinade because I just don't have time for it, and it is still good. I stir fried the green beans with olive oil, garlic powder, and Lawry's seasoning because that's how @thebarbaricyawp made green beans for us when she and G visited us over the 4th, and I always copy her because she is the best cook I know.
I also made Eric Kim's cold noodles with zucchini for lunch a couple times because I love his recipes but also because I love zucchini and my family acts like I'm trying to poison them when I make it. It's a fun recipe and satisfies my need for novelty as well as zucchini.
Last night Dominic grilled steaks, and I made the sides, and everything was delicious. I made more green beans, mushrooms, horseradish sauce, and these roasted potatoes. The potatoes were excellent. I made the horseradish sauce by stirring together roughly equal portions of sour cream, mayonnaise, and prepared horseradish, and it is so incredibly delicious every time.

Ughhhh trying to find kid-friendly recipes (I am an adult with child siblings, not a mother, for the record) and it's WACK what some of these blogs think picky eater kids will eat. Like, no, they're not going to eat a hawaiian pineapple chicken bake and I don't particularly want to, either. They're not going to eat 'meatloaf muffins'. I would love some sheet-roasted vegetables with balsamic glaze, but the eleven year old won't. God forbid I try to factor in things like recipes that use shelf-stable ingredients, what heats up well as leftovers for lunch the next day, recipes that are easy enough for me to make, things that make enough for 6 people, things that don't cost an arm and a leg, and basically anything that isn't some casserole amalgamation of rice-cheese-vegetable-ground turkey.

Drop the recipe bestie!
I am genuinely surprised people love this so much, but it's very easy! My mom's friends on FB also asked for the recipe.
Tumblr media
I put some chicken in a baking dish and then covered it in fresh tomatoes, filling in the gaps with fresh garlic cloves. And also made some regular white rice.
Then chopped a bunch of fresh basil and sprinkled that on top, then cracked a lot of salt and pepper and drizzled with olive oil. Then put slices of fresh mozzarella on top of the tomatoes, and drizzled balsamic glaze on top of everything.
Baked it for 15 minutes at 380, took it out to check the temp of the chicken and poured the juices into some cooked rice to give it some flavor.
Then another 5 minutes at 400, and then under the broiler for a few minutes! My boyfriend put oregano on his, and we both put extra balsamic and basil on after he plated the baked mess onto a bed of rice.

Dinner Recipe: Caprese Chicken
Tumblr media
TIME: ★★★✰
PRICE: ★★★✰
EASE: ★★★★
CLEANUP: ★★★★
This is honest-to-goodness one of our favorite dishes we make. It's a one sheet-pan style meal that only takes 20 minutes of active time (30-40 minutes in the oven.) It's SO easy to serve up on top of some lettuce, spinach, or other veggies and it would totally be amazing on rice or pasta. It's delicious, requires little active work, very few dishes, and is just really easy to throw together.
It's also pretty modifiable. Use shredded mozzarella or a different cheese entirely! Skip the balsamic vinegar glaze entirely! Skip the basil if you want!
Leftovers: You can easily make this into multiple meals (2 dinners, dinner and lunch the next day, etc.) or make a large amount of it, but you probably wouldn't want to freeze it. Eat leftovers within 2-3ish days of making it!

What’s your favorite soup recipes? Your post about making a ton and freezing it may or may not have just saved me lol
yes absolutely!! im glad it might be helpful! i make a cabbage soup all the time that ill write out a bit later that’s really simple and filling! the most recent one i made was adapted from this post. I make this one with bacon AND diced chicken and it’s so divine, but it takes a lot of steps and requires a blender so it’s not as fatigue friendly, but worth trying if you have the energy!
other than that unfortunately i dont really use recipes. I mostly will just use whatever leftover I have on hand and add it to stock, like leftover rice, veggies, meat, pasta, etc. soup is great for me bc you can really just throw in whatever is about to go bad as long as it works with the flavor profile you’re going for, and if you’re already comfortable with cooking then it’s the same principle. if you can’t make your own stock than just use the store bought stuff. Use frozen veggies too if you dont wanna worry abt produce going bad. Also im lactose intolerant and have celiacs so i use almond milk instead of milk and cornstarch instead of using flour as a thickening agent, but it always turns out really good! if you’re not then adding some splashes of cream/milk and some melted cheese on top of different soups will probably be really good.
Del Real Foods has these precooked and preseasoned packages of different meats that you can use too if you have anxiety abt raw meat or you dont have the energy to do a full recipe. A lot of the time I’ll use their chicken and just throw that in with some chicken stock, whatever veggies i have like carrots or potatoes or celery and some hunks of onion, and then finish with some rice or pasta for a quick and homey chicken soup! :D
cabbage roll soup
- one onion
-preferred amount of garlic (i usually use 3-4 cloves)
- a whole cabbage
- about 4 cups of broth or stock, two of those cartons you buy at the store
- 1-2 cans of tomato sauce depending on how much you like tomatoes
- pack of ground beef or turkey
- cup of rice
- a healthy splash of balsamic vinegar and some spoonfuls of brown sugar optional.
You can do this all in a big pot so you dont have to worry about multiple dishes! sauté your onions until translucent and season with salt and pepper, toss in your garlic cloves for like 30 seconds and then throw in your meat. brown that then throw in your tomato sauce and stock. chop up your cabbage and throw that in and also toss in your rice. add the vinegar and some sugar to make it a little more tangy and deep, but it works fine without it. then just bring to a boil and wait until your rice is cooked and your cabbage is tender! its really easy to double this recipe or just add more rice to make it more filling. I’ve frozen this plenty of times to it freezes and reheats well!

Today has been largely exhausting and annoying so let’s focus on some good stuff and turn this shit around, shall we?
I made an excellent chicken tortilla soup! I know it’s not really soup weather but it’s an easy crockpot meal which means dinner was done by 8am.
Had leftover pasta from last night and now I need every pasta dish to include balsamic vinegar and Brie cheese. Perfect.
We had a lovely - if a bit chaotic - time with D and her family. But I think chaos is to be expected at a four year-old’s birthday party? Birthday girl loved the books we got her and her baby sister is fully obsessed with E. If he is in her line of sight she reaches for him and squawks or grunts to get his attention until he takes her. The big girl got in bed with us on Sunday morning and wakes up happy and jazzed to greet the morning. Inspiring, honestly.
Landlord said if we coordinate the repair person for the dishwasher he will cover it! Yes!
Ok I’m gonna go eat some soup.
