Most annoying thing to remember is that you're litterally just a homosapien. You're just a very smart animal. If you feel like shit, imagine you're an exotic pet for some alien species and do what they'd do to keep you healthy. You gotta be well cared for. Animal abuse is a crime for a reason

"My pet human, Greg, hasn't left his bed in a long time. He's just scrolling his phone all day" Greg needs enrichment. Add enrichment in his enclosure and take him on walks

"Greg has been super lethargic and sad recently for seemingly no reason" Greg need vitamins, take him outside for some vitamin D and fresh air. Perhaps a picnic

"Greg won't sleep even though he's been super lethargic" Greg needs a schedule, especially for the lights in his enclosure.

"Greg has been super distant recently and keeps crying to sad music" Humans are pack animals, he needs to hug another human and hang out. Perhaps pack bond with a rock together

"Greg has been flailing around and panicking, his breathing is way faster than it should be" Greg is overwhelmed. Take Greg out of the situation and give him time to calm down. Perhaps somewhere cozy with tea and a movie

"Greg won't do what he needs to do" Train him. Humans do great with positive reinforcement, give him little treats when he's doing good

"Greg he's been super anxious and tired, he can't seem to enjoy his days" Humans needs to move around. Give Greg something to exercise with. Things like stretching, weight lifting, walking, or even dancing will help

"Even though I've taken really good care of Greg, he still has been having issues" Greg is ill, take him to the doctor. You might need a specialist (therapist, optometrist, oncologist, etc)

I know it feels patronizing, and I know it feels embarrassing or that you're "just giving into the clichés", but you are literally just a creature. You need to sleep/eat on time, you need enrichment, and you need to take care of your social needs. Humans are complicated animals, but they are also beautiful and all deserve proper care. This obviously isn't a perfect analogy, nothing is, but if you saw your friend taking care of their pet the way you take care of yourself, would you be concerned?

to my fellow cis lesbians: gender critical people are so quick to use us as scapegoats and claim they’re “defending lesbian rights” to push their outdated (and incorrect) belief that gender is binary, which is why we the cis lesbians have to be the most outspoken group on trans rights. go to marches with a lesbian AND a trans flag draped around your shoulders, be the person in the room to call out gender critical rhetoric when you see it. if we’re the group they’re supposedly ‘protecting’ with these anti trans laws and rulings, make it abundantly clear how much we disagree with this ‘protection’. trans women who are solely attracted to women are lesbians. simple as. a sapphic relationship can include a trans woman, or multiple.

“oh but i don’t want to sleep with someone with a penis-” no one is ASKING YOU TO. that is a personal choice and preference that is as simple as any other. it does not negate the fact that the gender critical hysteria is a harmful movement that we need to be on the front lines of fighting, especially since they can’t keep our names out of their mouths.

also to be cynical and appeal to those of you who may just be out for themselves: do you really think this hysteria will stop at trans people? there’s already return of “a natural family” and “save the kids” rhetoric, and coming for anything outside of a binary norm is a slippery slope right back to heteronormativity. they won’t spare you just because you stood by and let them come after trans people!

I’ve reached the point in ds9 where Kira and Odo are officially a couple and I have some thoughts.

I think the reason I don’t fully hate it is because they already had such a good friendship so it’s not like they don’t have chemistry but the reason I kind of hate it is also because they already had such a good friendship. Their relationship isn’t any less loving or good if they’re just friends. Plus, it was one sided for most of the show so it seems kind of weird that Kira is suddenly fully on board with dating Odo (especially considering his actions earlier in the season). Had the execution been better I might feel more positively about it but to me the way it happened doesn’t make much sense for either of them.

I also don’t really think the way Odo feels about Kira is necessarily romantic. I think she’s the person he’s closest to and he loves her so very, very much platonically but from what he’s observed and been told he’s kind of just assumed that if he’s (choosing to present himself as) a guy and she’s a girl and he loves her then that must mean he’s attracted to her. I know a ton of people interpret their relationship as queer and I’m inclined to do the same but no matter how I look at it I still think the execution is weird.

So I guess my biggest issue with it is the way it was handled and not the relationship itself, if that makes sense?

I also have a whole thing about how it seems like the writers are trying to fix Odo/ prove Odo’s personhood or that he has feelings by making him have sex or date when we already know Odo has feelings (Lwaxana, anyone?) and sex doesn’t make someone…humanoid, in this case but that’s a rant for another time.

Oh, this never ending debate.

When I first got into BL these two confused and confounded me for months. It always seemed like people were either very strict and defensive truthers or pessimistic deniers.

Honestly, I went back and forth several times on them, and I think what I have come to conclude is that they're both and neither and whatever the hell they want.

Because due to the parasocial aspects of the Thai bl industry these men (Thai bl men in general) play a version of themselves in public, the same way most people do. Only their public persona is what makes them marketable. It's part of their brand.

That doesn't mean there isn't truth to it.

Fanservice and genuine affection do not exist in vacuums separate from one another. Real life relationships are way more fluid and complicated than black and white.

There are things they do that seem very performative, but I have to wonder if maybe that's just part of their personality and relationship in general. But obviously it is also, at least partly, for the fans. As it is their brand. But again, that's something that doesn't exist in a vacuum.

In a classic, western sense they haven't officially actually come out but rather were like "you can think whatever you want."

(I think this might have changed recently with the language they've been using but I'm not 100% sure due to fan translations being subjective. But like, I'm pretty sure they've said recently in an interview they basically date at work.)

At some point (especially in the past few weeks)I've legitimately just started feeling like a homophobic crone for thinking it was ALL for fan service. Like, those two clearly are very important to each other. They clearly love each other in some way.

It's so interesting because like, in a way these shipped pairs are living their own fake dating au's. And I fully believe there are some people who just committed to the bit to the degree that it no longer became a bit, and I'm pretty sure that's zeenunew.

You can see their relationship change over the years. I don't doubt there was fan service in the cutie pie era. I also don't doubt that those big sappy displays of affection are sincere.

So i used to put them in the category of "shrodinger's ships." They were both together and not until proven otherwise.

But recently I've shifted them into the category of "committed to the bit too hard and now it is no longer a bit."

Because I think it's both fan service and legit, and like, that's just how they roll. If it is an entirely false charade they've been on for years then consider me bamboozled and in awe of their hustle, but in this economy we take all the serotonin we can get.

Also, like, regardless of any outside perspective of their relationship, their personal relationship is going to be what it is or isn't either way. What are we gonna do about it by arguing over semantics and technicalities? What would they get? Nothing. We have literally no stake in this and no influence.
