not my usual kind of posting but i genuinely hate how unpleasant having chronic gastrointestinal issues makes your life. even if it was more socially acceptable i would still be in excruciating pain every single day of my life just for doing something that's necessary to live. the fact that it also makes other people think you're disgusting and embarrassing just compounds the misery.

Me: hm, I want something to put on the TV as background noise... Huh. Looks like YouTube is recommending something called The Last Unicorn. That's perfect, it's probably some old shitty animation that has aged poorly! I can watch it ironically!
Me, 2 hours later as the credits roll: *crying, cheering, buying the book, composing the songs*
Me, 2 weeks later: So I have compiled all of the quotes from the book that I think could make good tattoos, and also, HOW HAVE I NEVER LEARNED ABOUT HOW THE LAST UNICORN FUCKING SLAPS??? This gay-ass little fairytale fed my soul! Watered my crops! Transed my gender! Can't believe I heard of this story from youtube recommendations, of all places!!

do you ever think about how in the day i picked up dazai side b dazai had to lie emotionless and soulless—like a corpse, almost—beside the man that gently brought him in, nursed his injuries, held him while he was in pain? he had to keep those suffocating bandages around his entire face, lest this man gain some sort of recognition for the little boy he saved. he had to lay there curled in the fetal position, bleeding and in pain, perhaps thinking about how, in another life, this man cooked for him, tried to build up his strength. read to him to pass the time while he curled up against him like a child listening to a bedtime story. played cards with him. saw through the heartless mafioso. the ruthless killer. and instead saw a boy.
imagine knowing this man, the man who saved you in more ways than one, was going to die one day all because he knew you. because he reached his hand into the darkness and plaintively, like a small child wanting a parent's touch, you grasped back desperately. imagine thinking all of that while that man is just a stone's throw away, making coffee in the next room just like he used to for you in another life. the scent, although you've never been here before, is reminiscent of home. and the tune he's humming? it's the silent melody that plays through your mind seven years later, for the last time as you fall backward off the building with your arms out like an embrace. but, hey. that man is alive. he's happy, although he never knew you. you can die with no regrets.

and i do think Brothers in Blood is one of the most important comic book stories ever written btw. think about how many people have gotten into comics specifically for jason after the utrh movie or seeing the fandom zeitgeist or whatever. if they're unfamiliar with comics and have utrh as their first experience, they still might not exactly understand what they're in for. they might think this is, like, a normal form of storytelling that makes sense and maintains literally anything even slightly resembling cohesion or a consistent tone or like. sanity
and then the very next story they click on is him having made his own hand-sewn dick cosplay specifically to murder people in & make the public believe nightwing's gone insane for literally no reason. and then instead of that being the main conflict in the story, it pivots to being about these random dudes who turn into flesh monsters. one of them eats jason and then throws him back up in a big egg & keeps him as decor in their apartment for a while where he hallucinates about dick calling him a little bitch until he manages to get free except he's been turned into a shapeshifting cannibalistic tentacle monster and swallows a guy whole (twice) but the guy can split atoms and causes a nuclear explosion in his stomach that levels an entire city block, but you know jason survived because he somehow manages to get a message through to dick's random girlfriend via 19th century telegraph
a concentrated shot of comic book fuckery straight to the heart. that shit was like some sorta boot camp to get you ready to deal all the different types of comic-specific crazy. it had every weirdass trope specific to the medium happening at the exact same time, and they did that for US. to make us stronger. as a people
