In light of the United States of Hell, the land of the fucked being one of the only countries in the whole entire world to state that food is not a human right, I think we should start planting food everywhere. Fruits, vegetables, greens, flowers, plant everything and anything that can be eaten. Stop digging out every weed that grows in your garden and try identifying them and see if you can eat them. Most of the common weeds in our backyard are edible and can also be used for medicine! Make seed bombs and throw them around everywhere. Try and start a community garden in your neighborhood. Also, gardening does not have to be stressful! We just made it stressful because we stopped using methods like the food forest, companion gardening, you get the picture. Hell, just throw a bunch of seeds into your backyard and see what happens. I would say plant more than enough for yourself and whoever lives with you and then donate the rest to homeless shelters, animal shelters, etc... Anywhere that needs food in general. Just remember to make sure everything you plant is native not only to the U.S., but to the state you live in as well. Learn how to forage and what foods you can find in forests near you. Once you learn a good bit about foraging, start teaching your friends and families as well. Maybe learn HTML and make your own website with all the information you learn! Help spread information about how to garden and forage. Go dumpster diving as well. Majority of the time, a lot of food is thrown out that is still fresh, but isn’t “good enough” to sell (aka not visually appeasing enough). Remember to bring along a friend and/or family member! It’s always safer to go in pairs or more when dumpster diving. Water isn’t free either, despite the fact it should be, so try setting up a rainwater barrel and learn how to purify water. If you have more than enough, donate it. Everyone deserves access to food and water!

So I usually check all my equipment before projects or bringing critters home.
I checked everything but the heat lamp, got everything set up and sat down to do the hour check-wait and started smelling something funny.
Tumblr media
Turns out the lamp bulb was breaking apart!! 😱
Glad I always have a spare heat lamp as well as bulbs!
If your doing homesteading and keeping of critters especially always have spares and a backup just for these kinds of situations :)

FRONT GARDEN UPDATE 11/29/2023
Tumblr media
Full side view
Tumblr media
Row 1= a pumpkin, variety of sunflowers and Valor beans
The pumpkin has two fruits on it at the moment! I'm gonna post a few pics of what it looks like currently a little further down.
For the sunflowers we just mixed a bunch of different ones together so there's some Mammoth, Boss (black oil sunflower) and some stuff we had left over from the last sunflowers we grew!
Row 2 = nasturtiums further away and cabbage
Tumblr media
A little view of row 2
Row 3= Armenian cucumbers and egg plants
The Armenians aren't spreading out too much but that's more our fault than the plants, it's not in a super sunny spot and it tends to do better when it's slightly sunnier spot in the winter.
Row#4= more valor beans closer with some remnants of cabbage, carrots and radish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Close up of the pumpkins!
Tumblr media
One of the eggplants is starting to show signs of getting flowers/fruit.
Tumblr media
A valor bean on the plant
Tumblr media
While they aren't really branching out one of them does have a lot of little cucumbers starting!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And some bees on some of the blossomed sunflowers!

Shiloh/Patchwork Heart lost his food stamps, and my man needs to keep himself and the family fed! Helping him hit $500/month on Patreon would help Shi keep food on the table. I know money's tight for everyone, but the tiers start at $1 per month! Please consider helping my friend create more art and care for himself and his family!

More immediate GreenHorizon plans
Food Sovereignty
My main plan for these coming months is to get the official entity of the charity set up. I already have trustees secured.
Then I want to ideally get some funding and grants (might include crowdfunding), buy up a good amount of agricultural land, plant permaculture food forests, and more immediate producing vegetable gardens, have some free range chickens too, for eggs.
Then set up community kitchens run by volunteers that make three meals a day, every day with the produce from the food forests and gardens, kinda buffet style, open to everyone.
I so so so strongly believe that food is a human right that should never ever have been monetised and gatekept the way it is. It's honestly a form of holding a population hostage and forced into servitude.
Food is one of our absolute most immediate needs and actually takes up a lot of mental space and energy in our daily lives, so if people have free, good, tasty, healthy food available at all times and they don't even have to worry about preparing and cooking it, then they will have much more time and energy to focus on further liberation. They can finally get their head above water so to speak.
They will also have more leverage against anyone who might wish to exploit or coerce them in any way. Especially women, children and vulnerable people would be much more safeguarded through this initiative

I think we're forgetting that the reason that the US government wants the attention on aliens is (as usual) to distract from the significant things happening.
Other than finanical crisis? Anyone else got news?

Hello and Welcome to the garden!
Today I have a bit of a smallish and short post~
Tumblr media
The pumpkin is developing pretty good, the one on the trellis is a little smaller than this one. I'm starting to see new flowers on the vine, but I think I'll be picking them to use for stir fry/fried rice varient, ommlettes, or salad.
Tumblr media
The first planting of the velour beans is starting to get what I think might be the end of their cycle, a few more flowers arrived but the plants aren't really b taking off to much in growth or producing. If I recall right I got around 48 oz of beans. (Their being crowded out by the sunflowers now.)
I'm gonna leave them in and jsut see how long/well they do.
Tumblr media
Starting at the far left, sunflowers+ velour beans and pumpkin
2nd in from left. Starting closest to us. The broccoli and nasturtium. I'm gonna pick some of the broccoli leaves this week for pan fried veggies. Broccoli leaf+rice (not sure if blanching, pan fry w/garlic+butter or a cheese/broc soup.)
3rd row from left starting closest. The eggplants, who have some flowers but I've not seen any eggplant yet. Cabbages (2), they've got little heads coming in. I have not yet sprayed down with the tea but I haven't seen much more pest issue. And last the cucumbers. One is pretty much done, the other has teeny lil cucumbers coming in, but I don't expect too much more growth from them. If they do I may just let it go to seed and see if it does better next year in a different spot.
Edit to add, I forgot the last row!
4th row from left, second planting of velour beans, with the surviving cabbages and carrots. I picked a few of the carrots this morning
Tumblr media
Close up of the dying/dead and the hanging in there cucumbers.
Finally got down to the hardware store. We got wood, pipes for extending the garden fence, dirt and some time.
Tumblr media
We got 2 boxes made up. So next step is to get the fence panels made up to extend the garden space and protect it from the stray/feral cats.
I got peppers, tomatoes seed started this week, though im hoping I didn't lose a tray of peppers due to a watering malfunction. (Always check your seedlings daily!) I also got some garlic in the ground and some ginger root too.
Thats it for my update for now :)
🌱🌻Happy Homesteading and gardening! 🌻🌱

light tw: ed mention
learning how to cook the foods i grew up with has healed a part of my being i did not know was so hurt.
after years of calorie counts and protein calculations, it was freeing to cook the vegetables i grew.
to eyeball measurements like my grandma taught me. making stocks and perseveres that seal away the flavors of the seasons. food is so much more than what keeps us going its a time capsule that reminds us of the people who taught us recipes, of the land that grew the food, and the satisfaction of the creation.
i wish to talk to someone about how much this hurts, but a good hurt. like a old wound that has taken its time healing and letting go of the scab.
food should be the right to our cultures, our homes, our loves, and our planet

My body’s reaction to hunger is so broken.  Don’t eat breakfast/lunch = feels almost fine. No stomach growling, no hunger pangs, no worries.
The SECOND a food smell comes though and it’s like my brain’s cell service just reconnected and all hunger notifications come through at once  This is why proper nutrition should be a human right. I have been intentionally working on getting proper nutrition and retraining my body for 10+ years and it’s still not recovered from poverty induced childhood hunger.
