Brandon Sanderson mentioned in one of his videos, reviewing "The Lost City", a phenomenon that I have noticed as well, regarding how critics judge media in contrast to audiences. Which he called the 'reviewer problem.'
Critics are people who's job is to watch an ungodly amount of movies every year, and when you watch 'that' much media, all the time, and are exposed to every conceivable premise/concept/genre/etc. on a constant basis, you will become desensitized to movies that are not seeking to reinvent the wheel and are content to do something that may be 'unchallenging' but still does it competently. They become starved for any novelty factor, to the point they will excessively praise movies that just feel 'different' above all other concerns.
Which is how you get genre films still being looked down on by critics, unless if it has some kind of hugely audacious shake-up in structure or theme or filmmaking style. You can't just have a very well crafted cheeseburger. For critics, if a movie has some kind of lofty and ponderous meta-commentary about itself, that immediately makes it more 'valid' a work of art than its more straightforward brethren.
This is something that personally bugs me, and I think it's how we keep falling into this cycle of critics' opinions being so massively different from causal audiences' opinions. Because audiences don't watch a million movies a year, they get to pick and choose what to watch that caters to their tastes, so it tends to be things that they 'know' they will probably like. So these audiences are paying for their favorite cheeseburger, 9 times out of 10. And a cheeseburger CAN be done with skill and passion and intelligence.... while still being a freakin' cheeseburger.
It's okay for movies to play tropes straight, its okay for them to make a simple promise and deliver on it, without any sneaky subversion in mind. It's okay for movies to be proud of their genre conventions and embrace them without shame.

Anthropology - I love learning about how humans have always been humans. It helps us better understand how people solve problems.
Times that animals solve human-caused problems - ie. The maggots that eat styrofoam and the orcas that destroy the yacht rudders.
Old forms of entertainment that contain simple machines - ie. All puppets, automata, praxinoscopes, kites, etc. They showcase how creative and ingenuitive humanity has always been. And that they had free time to do things they loved and weren't always just trying to survive.
Genre Movies that go all out with their genera - A lot of the time movies are put into genres for advertising purposes or just cus that genera happens to fit the story and theme. I love it when movies are made in a certain genre for the love the creators have for it and its tropes. I love it when Genre moves are hammed up to almost the point of uncomfortability. It's the creator unapologetically depicting their love for the experience of viewing a movie in their favorite genre.
THEIRRY MUGLER - He is an entirely underrated fashion designer at least in the online sphere. He's who designed Zendeya's robot red carpet look for the Dune Part 2 premiere. His designs were extremely stylish and extremely campy which can be something very hard to pull off at the risk of tackiness. He pushed every idea to 1000%. His fashion shows were an experience and he let his models have personality because he wasn't afraid of being overshadowed. He let the two work to enhance each other.

The unusual & groundbreaking IMAX Production of THE CREATOR - which combines elements of guerilla-filmmaking and “post-Hollywood” (and frankly “YouTube”-ish) VFX workflows to push how big-budget VFX-heavy cinematic spectacles can be produced without bankrupting the involved VFX studios -- like with what happened with Ang Lee’s The Life of Pi and arguably with the latest Phase-IV Marvel Cinematic Universe feature-length movies.

shout out to when i told my dad about goncharov and he figured out it was fake because i told him "1973 martin scorsese film with robert de niro" and he said that wasn't possible because the godfather came out in 1972 and the godfather part II came out in 1974 and they wouldn't have had time to make a movie in between. a perfectly good jest, foiled by this man's weird and vast knowledge set

silly headcannon #2 that Bruce never got the reference that Jason always made of himself being short round (he always thought it was Jason saying he was short) until after he died and Tim, avid Indiana Jones fan made Bruce watch the movies with him, only the man breaks out crying., sobbing, full on breaking down over the two second scene that is Indy ruffling Short Round’s hair as he explains they first met when he caught the kid stealing from him, and then took him under his wing.

[Toon x Mobster] Only he can make him laugh like that...
Jack Desmond is the silly guy. Gavriel Huffman is the scary guy. They come from different worlds that has contrasting genres, one more cartoonishly comedic and the other much dramatically darker.
It's kind of a running gag that Sir Huffman is unable to laugh without looking absolutely wicked. Both in the cartoon world and his own world.
That doesn't stop Jack from being completely smitten with him though, his voice is the most mind-melting thing he's ever had the pleasure to hear

Being afraid of ghosts means you wouldn't want to be in an allegedly haunted place, or you watch a horror movie/game where there's ghosts and you're afraid.
I'm very curious about these results bc I think I might be in a minority with these options and I just wanna see.
Please reblog I want a decent population for my test lol

All this aroace character shipcourse has proven to me that a majority of people that interact in fandom cannot actually interact with characters and media outside of shipping and genuinely I believe you need to learn how to interact with media outside of shipping.
