I have a theory
So i keep seeing fanfiction writers say people commenting on their works gives them such a dopamine rush that it spurs them to keep writing.
By that logic, if i were to comment on a fanfic that hasn’t been updated in over a decade, could i commit a feat of real life necromancy and revive a fic back from the dead or am i just delirious on copium?
its ok to write shitty poems
its ok to write shitty song lyrics
its ok to write shitty stories
its ok to be unoriginal
its ok to reuse a line from something else you wrote
its ok to reference other works
its ok to be proud of shitty writing
its ok to be proud of great writing
its ok to be proud in general
its ok to not use overcomplicated intricate wording in writing
its ok to write about dumb shit
its ok to write about fictional events
its ok to write something awesome but have one weak line you cant really fix
its ok to write something terrible but have one amazing line that doesn't fit
its ok to write about emotions you don't really grasp
its ok to write
So, I don’t normally do this, but something urgent came up, and I really need y’all to read this. There’s a TL;DR at the bottom of this post, but I strongly advise reading this post all the way through to gain more context on the situation at hand.
I don’t know all the details, but there’s this act floating around in the US called the “Kid’s Online Safety Act” - or KOSA , if you will. Here’s a description of it:
In summary, this law, if put in place, would aim to wipe out sites that could provide youth with life-saving resources, or even mention topics related to the LGBTQIA+ community and suicide prevention.
Now, obviously this is only a thing in America, so you’d think it wouldn’t affect the rest of the world, right?
Well, not exactly.
So you know how fandom sites such as Tumblr, AO3 and Wattpad provide an escape for many people across the world who are going through hard times (to put it simply)? I don’t mean to scare anyone, but if this law passes, these sites may be negatively affected globally.
Here’s a TikTok I found by a creator known as omarsbigsister that explains it better. It’s mainly about AO3 but Tumblr and Wattpad are mentioned too:
We all know why fandom is so important. Many people, as I’ve mentioned, use sites such as the ones previously listed to escape the troubles of their everyday life. In addition, fanfiction sites in particular provide creative outlets for writers across the globe. This law could possibly destroy this form of escapism and a creative outlet.
I’ve linked a link tree found in the above TikTok creator’s link tree at the bottom of this post. Please sign them regardless of where you’re from.
Also, y’all know I usually don’t ask for clicks, but interacting with this post in some way or even making a post of your own like this to spread the word would also be of great help!
We have to stop KOSA from being passed. The lives of America’s youth and future of fandom depend on it.
Thanks in advance!

TL;DR: KOSA is putting the lives of American youth and the future of fandom as a whole at risk and we need to act now.
Edit: Since this post is still getting engagement (thank you all for the support!), I should mention that I made a second KOSA post highlighting how dangerous the bill is outside of fandom-related things. I highly suggest checking that one out, since the info provided is very important! It’s the second-latest post on this blog excluding the pinned post. Thanks!
I have the controversial opinion that maybe, just maybe we stop wanting to go after people with pitchforks for getting characters wrong and not reading the comics inviting them to easy and accessible ways of and making our own content with comic accurate representation
people might feel less anxious about starting comics and misinformation won't spread as easily
for being a member of an aggressively militarized, evil, bug-like, cyborg alien race that is completely incapable of natural reproduction,
Zim is bizarrely…
And I mean weirdly…
Paternal.
Like, there is only one dynamic/circumstance in which I’ve ever seen a softer side of him or a shred of empathy for another creature rear its head and it’s consistent across the show, movie, and comics.
Now, I’m not saying this lunatic maybe desperately needs a spare smeet or similar thrown his way yesterday ago,
i have decided to be the change i wanna see, so lets do a nice little thing for each other, as a community full of incredible and talented writers. yes this is writer specific only, but thats cause thats where the main problem of people not interacting with creative works lies in this fandom as far as i can tell and have seen people talking about it especially in the last couple of months
if you read this, please add links to your written works. it can be just a single fic youre really proud of, your writing blog, your writing tag, your ao3 account, anything where your works can be found
and if you leave your link here, PLEASE check out someone else that has left their works, and interact with them. leave them a comment, even just a kudos, REBLOG their fic, etc. interacting is the keyword i want to emphasize here, along with building a sort of a masterpost of where to find people writing in this fandom
and if you are not a writer, youre still highly encouraged to interact with this post and share it and show love to the writers in this fandom, obviously!! i think that should go without saying, but adding it in anyways
a bit more about my vision and resources and such under the read more, but thats the gist of it. happy linking and please be kind and supportive to each other!! 💜
nobody is too big or too small to add their things on this list. if you write and post anything in this fandom whatsoever, be it fics or drabbles or headcanons, any companies or any kind of ships or reader inserts or any content whatsoever no matter how 'dead dove dont eat' or hell even if its just meta, we welcome all here and nobody can say that one thing is less valid than another. just please tag your content accordingly, especially if theres content warnings, and feel free to mention what you write, who you write, any info you wish to leave that would help people before they click on your links. but even so, that should not and hopefully will not deter people from interacting, no matter what it is. someones trash is another ones treasure, i promise you
and unless the amount gets really overwhelming, im personally going to be checking out everyone that leaves something here. unless it squeaks me out, but even then, i'll spread the word. and i just wish as many people as possible will do the same, and not just use this as a potential board to only get eyes on their stuff. ofc thats also the point, but you should give as much, if not more, than you get. we need to be kind and supportive of one another (besides, from personal experience, if you show love to someone else, they are more likely to do it back than without you taking the first step, so... pay it forward)
as for resources, heres a few links that should be helpful in leaving comments and feedback. of course everyone does their own thing and no comment is too big or too small to leave, but for those who need them. if you have anything you'd like added to this list, dont hesitate to get in touch or drop it in the post yourself!!
101 comment starters

dont know how to comment? easy solutions
a quick hot guide to commenting (by yours truly)
an overall guide to appreciating fanfic writers
and just in general.. leave people comments. leave them asks about their projects. just go over and gush about their work. i know it sounds embarrassing but writers love nothing more than to hear that someone likes what they are doing. if you find a fic that hasnt been updated in forever, comment on it. it might just be the spark the author needs to continue. while kudos and likes are nice, and just as valuable to some, its definitely in the words the people leave for them that matter the most. im not saying this to put pressure on anyone, its just how it is, and i feel like unless people are writers themselves, and even then sometimes, thats just hard to grasp, especially if the writer is a smaller and less popular one who doesnt get a lot of traffic in the first place
i think thats all. just be nice and considered to everyone, reblog peoples works, this post with others add ons and so forth. and if i find anyone talking shit here or at other writers for something they share, you'll be blocked and im probably taking your kneecaps. be fucking nice. we are all struggling here and we need to stick together

I learned that there are people who sell bookbindings of fanfiction and so many things about this piss me off:
1. You can’t do that. It’s illegal. You’re asking to be sued, you may get the actual author of the fanfiction sued
2. Fanfiction was/is hotly contested for a long time & gotten take down A LOT! the big reason we have ao3 is because it’s FREE! & you’re trying to fuck that up for us??
3. It’s not even their own writing! - it’d still be a bad idea - but the audacity to steal someone else’s writing that they published for free, & then feel entitled to make a profit off of it???
4. People commissioning bookbindings… you’re paying someone to bind a book for you, but not giving money to the original author or fanfiction author doesn’t seem slimy to you?
I know the 2012 TMNT were 15 when they went up to the surface the first time and in the first episode of Rise TMNT they were around the 13-16 range, and I’m ASSUMING that the 2003 TMNT went to the surface around 15.
What I think would be funny is if they did a crossover between these three (and possibly more) then they should do everyone around the same age.
