catching up on docs streams, and he's talking about religion/spirituality and how it guides people's beliefs etc. he mentions how (generally) people like to be outraged by things [that dont affect them], like who other people are, and then immediately says 'if you're lgbtq you'll know what im talking about'
and i absolutely do. and its so wild to me how he just. drops that in. then starts talking about how it shouldn't matter who you are, how you can still do be incredibly religious and respect queer people, that the most important thing is that your beliefs don't hurt other people. how you should respect pronouns, that being 'indoctrinated' into being queer isn't a thing.
all whilst he's mining for diamonds using a freaking mega tunnel bore. like its any other conversation you might have
which it certainly is, for me. but a 40 something cishet man? not your standard casual conversation topic, not usually. and even though i already knew he was a supportive guy, hearing a conversation like this outside of an explicitly queer space, unprompted by a queer person. just solidifies what kind of person he is. and gives me faith that even outside of queer specific spaces, important conversations are happening, its not just us protesting and yelling into the wind, no one giving a shit. and its happening in some pretty unexpected places. which id say is pretty neat. its nice to have some hope for a change.
(all that to say, this is a docm77 stan household)

Canon Events that have happened over the three episodes that have me going INSANE (like, these actually happened and are not Fanon.)
Buck asked Tommy for a tour of Harbour, not because he wanted to consider learning to fly, or leave the 118, but soley because he wanted to hang out with Tommy.
Buck used Christopher for information on Tommy.
Buck pretended to suddenly be into Basketball so that he could go to the game, just because he knew Eddie and Tommy would be there.
MADDIE MOCKED BUCK ABOUT OPENLY HAVING A CRUSH ON EDDIE.
Buck body slammed Eddie while playing Basketball (honestly, I still cannot get over the fact that he YEETED THIS BOII).
Tommy got Buck's address from Eddie and chose to come around to apologise to Buck even though, TECHNICALLY, Buck was the one acting like a spoilt brat all episode.
BUCK WAS KISSED BY A MAN. SPECIFICALLY, BUCK WAS KISSED BY TOMMY. And then proceeded to be swept off his feet by this man and was left starstruck in his apartment, after Tommy openly communicated that he had to go to work and wasn't just kissing and bailing.
"I'm an Ally."... Need I say no more.
Buck acted like a totally fucking idiot on his first date with Tommy, and proceeded to have Tommy cut the date short because of how unready he seemed. WHICH BY THE WAY, TOMMY AGAIN COMMUNICATED SO BEAUTIFULLY WITH BUCK AND PROCEEDED TO STILL CALL THIS MAN ADORABLE. HE CALLED HIM ADORABLE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
Buck accidently outed himself to Maddie because he was doing a ramble ramble about his lil buck'ed up date.
Buck told Eddie he was on a date with Tommy, and Eddie proceeded to be the bestie of besties to Buck and told him, they all loved him anyways. HE USED THE WORDS. Bucks face in that scene will forever make my lil gay heart WEEP.
Buck told Eddie he couldn't stop thinking about the hot pilot that kissed him. CRYING.
Buck proceeded to grow the fuck up and apologised to Tommy, face to face, out in a public space, knowing full well that Tommy could have dropped his ass there and then, but still wanted to show him how sorry he was, and that he was, in fact, ready.
BUCK INVITED TOMMY TO BE HIS DATE TO THE MADNEY WEDDING DESPITE ONLY technically GOING ON TWO DATES. AND THEN TOMMY. SAID. YES. HE SAID YES. YES.
Buck also then invited Tommy to Chim's bachelor party, HELD HIS ARMS OPEN ACROSS THE ROOM READY FOR A HUG, told Tommy off for his outfit, showing off true Clipboard Buck form, AND THEN TOUCHED HIS PECK.
Eddie, the bestie of besties, got all sappya and jokey when he saw Tommy and Buck together.
Buck got all pouty when Tommy had to go to work, BUT TOLD HIM TO BE SAFE. HE SAID BE SAFE DAMNIT.
Buck got all goofy and smiley when he saw that Tommy had arrived at the hospital, MEANING, that he was most likely texting Tommy all day updating him on everything that was going on, even if Tommy couldn't respond while attending to the fire.
BUCK. CALLED. TOMMY. A. BEAST. HE SAID THIS CANONICALLY. ARE YOU JOKING. HE FULLY ATTACKED MY MAN, WHILE HE WAS COVERED IN SOOT AND SHIT, SNOGGED HIS FACE OFF IN A HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM, AND CALLED HIM A BEAST. I AM DECEASED.
Buck, the idiot that he is, proceeded to out himself, to his entire family, by coming back into the room, most likely 15 to 20 minutes after leaving, covered in soot because he had been uncontrollably making out with his hot pilot boyfriend.
Eddie, the bestie of besties, GOT SO FUCKING SMUG WHEN HE SAW BUCK AND TOMMY WALK BACK IN THAT ROOM. HE PULLED THE SAME FACE I PULL WHEN MY FRIENDS HAVE COME BACK FROM MAKING OUT WITH PEOPLE AND I AM HERE FOR IT. EDDIE YOU BESTIE SLAY SLAY SLAY.
Hen, the queen that she is, has most likely spoken to Karen about her suspicons of Buck's sexuality, and procceed to say ABOUT DAMN TIME. SHE KNEW THIS WHOLE TIME. HER GAYDAR IS ON FIRE. I LOVE HER.
Again, all of these events happened IN ACTUAL EPISODES, not in a fanfiction. I am FERAL over this. Bi!Buck is the best thing to ever happen to me.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk and if you don't ship BuckTommy, leave.

In defense of Kanghan trying sucking!
*puts on my Kanghan defender hat*
Kanghan's dad never lets Kang do anything. He dismisses Kang and tells him not to try, which Kang has stated upsets him. But Sailom always pushes him to try. He never does anything for Kang because he knows Kang is capable enough to do it himself.
Yet . . .
Sailom, who had Kang fail a test to teach Kang he couldn't be bought, quickly told Kang that he would complete their assignment without Kang having to contribute. Normally, Kang would be thrilled by this, but Sailom had faith in him when no one else did.
So Kang is hurt.
Things are awkward between them, but even when they were enemies, Sailom expected Kang to pull his weight. Now, Sailom is treating Kang just like his father does, and that bothers Kang.
Instead of giving up like he would normally do with his father, Kang goes to check on Sailom (because he wants to make sure he is okay), AND THEN GETS TO WORK!
Kang picked Sailom up and gave him the worst wipe down in BL history, but just like with Sailom and that steak, this is new to Kang and the fact that he tried is what is important. He didn't make fun of Sailom for not knowing how to eat a fancy meal, and Sailom didn't make fun of Kang for trying to care for him later when they spoke.
Then, Kang went further and completed their assignment ON HIS OWN!
I know everyone and their grandma hated the amount of flashbacks in this episode, but I appreciated that each flashback in this section showed Kang getting answers right and Sailom praising him. The flashbacks didn't show them necessarily working together on an assignment, as much as they showed Kang getting the answers correct on his assignment with Sailom's guidance.
And those flashbacks also showed the times Sailom took care of Kang when he was too tired to continue, even when Sailom himself was tired.
Because those memories served as a reminder that 1) Kang could complete this assignment alone, and 2) Sailom had already done the same for him several times. Kang just needed to try.
Caring about someone is new to Kang, but he told Sailom he would try FOR HIM.
This is a kid who has never had to keep a promise in his entire life not even to the girl he likes, yet here he is showing up to check on Sailom and take care of him even though he has no clue what he is doing. He took that promise seriously because Sailom takes him seriously.
Then, he sees Guy taking care of Sailom, and Guy is doing so much better than Kang who rarely cares about anything, so how would he be good at caring for someone?
We get flashbacks of Guy (I know y'all hate them), who even pointed out to Kang that HE takes care of Sailom, pushing Kang away when Kang tried to help Sailom in the classroom.
This is the same person who told Kanghan that people only want to be around him because of his money (which is a sore point for Kang).
Kang tried to take care of Sailom and sucked at it, yet here is someone who doesn't seem to struggle the way he does. Kanghan cares about nothing, so to finally care about something, NO, someone (Pimfah and Sailom!) and fail at it both times . . .
This is why his dad tells him not to try. This is why he doesn't expect anything from him. This is why Sailom told him he would do their assignment by himself without Kanghan needing to help.
Because Kanghan sucks.
He sucks at school, which is why he was failing. He sucks at soccer, which is why he is on the ground. He sucks at caring for someone, which is why Guy steps in each time. And Sailom knows this, which is why he said he would do their assignment alone.
Then, Sailom screams "Troy!" "Kang, YOU'VE GOT THIS!" and like a damn health bar in a video game, Kang remembers through the power of a flashback (I know, I know) that this isn't about how much he sucks at caring about Sailom because what is important is that he does care about Sailom.
Kang showed throughout this episode that he does care about Pimfah. He likes her. He wants her happy, even if it isn't with him. But he doesn't care about her the way he cares abut Sailom, right? Yet when Pimfah was describing how she knew she liked Sailom, she was describing Kanghan's experience with Sailom.
And many people wrote that what Pimfah was describing was admiration not love.
So, according to many of y'all, if what she is describing isn't love which just happens to be the same exact experience Kanghan is having with Sailom, then he isn't experiencing love either, right?
No. He feels sorry for Sailom.
He feels guilt.
But, according to y'all and Kanghan, he doesn't love Sailom.
So what is it he is feeling because he, and the audience, doesn't know how to describe this?
He doesn't want Sailom to have to work so hard. He doesn't want Sailom to walk in the rain. He wants Sailom to eat a nice meal. He didn't always feel this way though.
But somewhere after seeing Sailom get beat up and threatened with an iron to his bare arm, he started to care about Sailom.
Then, he promised Sailom he would try, for him.
So . . .
Kanghan is trying to describe what he is feeling when everything in his life (and the audience) is telling him this isn't love. It's pity. It's guilt. It's admiration. But it's not love.
So when Kanghan throws this in his face
he really thinks about it.
This doesn't feel like guilt. This doesn't feel like pity. This doesn't feel like admiration. He cares about Sailom. He cares for Sailom. He sucks at it, but damn it, he is trying.
He keeps getting everything wrong, but he is trying.
He is trying to do better. He is trying to figure out what this feeling is. He is trying to get it right. And he is trying to make Sailom understand something that he doesn't even understand.
But the point is he is trying.
Even if he sucks at it.

ramblings on Li Ming (and Heart) and homosexuality
moonlight chicken has so many things to offer in terms of technical beauty and interesting themes but what i cannot stop thinking about is the different ways they approach homosexuality in the story.
we have Wen who has a rainbow flag on his desk and pictures of him and Alan on the wall. Wen, who openly flirts with Jim and has no qualms talking openly about his one night stand. Wen, whose step father knows about his sexuality and is close enough with him to discuss his love life.
Kaipa we don’t know too much about. But his mom knows and is supportive and some of the vendors and the chicken family seem to know. But if anyone was questioning in what reality this show is set with all the class discussion and corona featuring, his part of the story shows that homophobia exists and he is worried about how he fits in with his own family, the expectations of his mother and possible the awareness that he makes the family he has “different”.
Jim is arguably even more visibly gay than Wen in terms of what we see throughout the show. He opened the shop with his ex, they prayed at the temple together and even though he objected due to proprities sake eventually they loudly declared their love to each other and the whole neighbourhood knows. Wen somehow feels like he is living in the remnants of a bubble: his circle of friends seems very queer, his closest friend and the whole gym seem to be all part of that as well. This only might change now with him questioning his work and breaking up with Alan: some gatherings he won’t attend anymore apparently.
And finally, we have Li Ming. At school he doesn’t seem to open up to his classmates on most things and additionally is in the closet. While there wasn’t anything alluding to homophobic rethoric being spread at school we can see how the heteronormativity gets to him and feel that there must be good reason as to why no one knows. And it could just be how Li Ming is judging the situation based on vibes, we don’t know. His mother is or at least was homophobic but at the same time he is raised by his gay uncle who is surrounded by other gay people. And I love how it feels like this might have given him enough security to be comfortable with his own sexuality but how it also isn’t enough to shield him from the world at large.
With so many great shows coming out of Thailand and most of them getting more and more political it just feels so real and 2023 to me that Li Ming is part of a generation that knows who they are but still have to battle with the shadow that homophobia has cast way before they were born.
