yknow I was also going to mention the specific differences between LN4 and LN5 and how that affects your reading of the canon but i forgot to before I hit post. also that's a huge can of worms. but I'm gonna open it

so LN4 spends its ENTIRE story setting up for change. it sets up quackity and slime's relationship with slime asking questions and poking holes in quackity's logic, with quackity beginning to falter, building a friendship and trust between quackity and slime, and then giving quackity consequences to his earlier actions - the very thing that'd been building the entire time. (I constantly think about the "is it worth it? revenge?" "no." interaction in this context.)

LN4 ends with quackity mourning the loss of slime, loss of the friend that was questioning him and encouraging that self reflection, he hasn't just lost power anymore, he's lost love, he's lost friendship. this is reinforced by LN4 including the big fiancés blowup RIGHT before having purpled kill slime, too. LN4 is the big lore stream of "quackity's consequences." this is quackity's rock bottom. the ending is hopeful and bittersweet, "in life or in possible death, know that I will fulfill our legacy." personally, I think that this implies that quackity will take the lessons that slime taught him (which weren't, like, overtly said - but you have to take into account what the questioning and pushback against q's logic meant) and, eventually, change.

on the other hand, LN5's core message is that quackity hasn't changed. it shows that no one on the DSMP has changed, that everyone is going to continue this cycle of power seeking and revenge forever and ever. quackity takes exactly none of the lessons that were given to him. he builds a whole slime army, dream and punz and purpled come to seek revenge, and it absolutely blows up in his face. slime takes an entire 180 and comes to kill both purpled and quackity. everyone is focused on revenge, AND AGAIN it ends with quackity not learning any lessons and doubling down on las nevadas and how it will rise even so.

SO. the question becomes: do you ascribe by the message of LN4, or the message of LN5? if you ascribe by LN4, you're much more likely to be favorable to romantic interpretations of qsicle. (again, "in life or in possible death, know that I will fulfill our legacy." if I put the shipping goggles on for a moment it's like oh wow that's gay asf.) And then I find that those who ascribe by LN5 tend to have more negative interpretations of dapduo in general. also like. slime literally kills him. don't think slime really wants to fulfill that legacy anymore LMAO.

so yeah! that's the ~extra meta~ about it.

saw a post the other day about how the dsmp fandom doesnt pay attention to any of quackity's relationships other than the romantic ones (also specifically shitting on quacksicle) and tbh while I think it's a valid point to talk about because quackity has so many other important relationships, you do realize that his romantic relationships (at least the arguably canon ones - specifically referring to fiances and schlackity though I guess you could argue tntduo but I'm personally not arguing that) like, completely inform a major part of his character?????????? It's about like. showing vulnerability to people and getting screwed over for it.

AND, perhaps the key part here, is that quackity and slimecicle follow in this pattern of quackity showing vulnerability to someone he has a close relationship with and then that relationship falling the fuck apart. so I don't know if it's necessarily off the mark to say that, in a sense, quacksicle was implied to be the same strain of relationship that q had with schlatt and karl and sapnap (and perhaps also wilbur) and that may or may not be romantic.

like, a platonic reading of it isn't incorrect (in fact it is probably the MORE correct version if I'm being realistic about cc intentions, etc) but like, the subtext isn't NOT there imo. Shrugs

anyways the op was right in that the entire other half of q's character is heavily informed by his nonromantic relationships - like. the entirety of LN (foolish, fundy, PURPLED) everything with the prison (sam, DREAM!) and also the friends he had in earlier dsmp days (tommy, eret, p sure bbh, this list can be added to but I wasn't a big early q watcher so this is all I got). (also, like, tntduo, but tntduo exists in the weird grey area yknow.)

a lot of people find themselves centering their lives around the opposite sex in an attempt to fill a void within themselves. they do it because they aren't happy with themselves or their lives, or maybe its learned behavior. whatever the reason is, its NOT hot.

some things that someone who centers men might think are "oh my life is so boring, maybe it would be spiced up if i got with a man" or "maybe it'll bring some excitement into my day" like EUGHHH. obviously the solution is to find ways to make our lives fulfilling but how do we do that? and how do we get to the root cause and squash this self sabotaging behavior?

SELF AWARENESS ;

if u have nothing going on for u, ofc ur gonna be energetically desperate and accepting anything and EVERYTHING. practice self awareness and try to get to the root cause of why u center men through things like shadow work, therapy, or just straight up having an honest conversation with urself cuz i swear it helps.

when you make the conscious effort to build ur dream life you'll notice that people that are on the same mindset as you will vibe with the REAL you. the need to fake/adjust urself to fit in with other people will dissipate because ur fitting into ur own standards and ur connections will be more meaningful because of it.

TAKE UR POWER BACK ;

no ones actions should ruin ur day or make u upset for more then a day (even less) cuz its YOUR world. 💕🍰

make time for YOU, doll. plan self care routines for urself every week. doing face masks, journalling, vision boarding, WHATEVER U LIKE TO DO. making time for urself reminds u that ur the main character of ur life so u dont have to settle for crumbs.

GET A HOBBY ;

find something to make ur life fulfilling. pursue ur OWN interests and try out different hobbies if ur unsure of what ur interests are yet. cultivate ur world to the point where it GLEAMS with perfection and then do a little extra. build a life that u love so much that whether u get male attention or validation doesnt even matter cuz their opinions have little to no relevance 💀

challenge yourself: next time you catch yourself thinking, ‘would a guy like this?’ flip it and ask urself "hey, do i like this?" start checking with yourself first instead of checking with others.

I agree, Starscream is allowed to not want to associate with Sunstorm at all, but he still shouldn't be mean about it haha. It's not like he told Sunstorm to not follow him around and was ignored. Sure Sunstorm should pick up on the hints that he isn't wanted but lbr he was raised by Shockwave in isolation, kid’s a little bit socially inept XD

My Sunstorm isn't as crazy religious as he is in the Dreamwave comics, but he is religious enough to make people like Starscream uncomfortable, especially when as you said he uses religious language to try and connect with Starscream. I personally like the idea that Sunstorm doesnt actually think the old stories are literally true, but he finds comfort in them and so chooses to view his life through that lens. He's more of a philosopher than a religious zealot, and ultimately he is more interested in observing and understanding than converting or preaching. Still, it's one of his special interests so he will talk about it if given the chance, and it definitely makes a lot of people uncomfortable for the reasons you've stated.

Love the observation about Starscream not being used to forgiveness. He don't trust like that, no sirreeeee.

Also it was Rodimus who pushed for the group therapy and Starscream def agreed to it, but he hasn’t really been taking any of the therapy sessions seriously. He was using them as a way to make people like him, like look I can behave, I can do your little therapy stuff, I can pretend to be emotionally and mentally stable, im totally working on myself even tho theres nothing wrong with me and even if there was something wrong with me it’s so deeply rooted theres no point in working on it anyway i mean what? It's all very calculated. Maybe he decided to vent about Sunstorm during their session because he thought it would make the kid leave him alone? Haha, unfortunately for him the opposite happened.

When I wrote Sunstorm’s dialogue my intention was for starscream to feel validated in a way that he isnt comfortable with but doesnt altogether hate, but then a few people pointed out how it comes off like he’s straight up forgiving him for having trauma (hes forgiving him for saying mean things to him!) and like, yeah starscream wouldnt appreciate feeling patronised x3 Prolly pissed him off. But like, maybe a little bit of the intent made it through? I wanted Starscream to feel seen, but being seen is terrifying when you feel like theres nothing but broken ugliness underneath. so i guess starscream just ends up feeling judged. But also…accepted? Starscream does a confusion.

Starscream has had like three therapy sessions and isnt making any notable progress because he’s more concerned with how he’s being perceived than actively working on himself rn. I actually think this is fine, change doesnt happen quickly. we’ve introduced starscream to an avenue of help and as calculated as it was he did still try it out. I think the seed was planted if he ever does decide he wants to do better. and In his defense, the focus rn for everyone is what do we do about Megatron’s sudden return

yeah since his spark is radioactive it hurts passively all the time. it hurts more when he pulls it in and away from others, and the pain spikes when he activates his outlier ability to actually use it, but it hurts less after it’s expelled. part of the reason why he spends so much time in a cr chamber while at shockwave’s lab is because it syphons his energy output and alleviates the pain. a win win for shockwave as he uses that energy to power his lab.

in his defence, he didnt make him radioactive on purpose, that just sorta happened

Skywarp just sees him as some other guy, he’s like not bothered at all. he’s curious about him in that there hasnt been a new seeker in generations. as far as he’s concerned, Sunstorm is literally nothing like Starscream haha

Im so hecking sorry XD Sunstorm is like basically not in IDW1 at all (he shows up once in the background, and then the second time he’s in the comic arcee hecking murders him pfpfpf). If you want sunstorm content I think he features more in Wings universe and the Dreamwave continuity. I havent read them tho so I don’t actually know haha

It’s always a wonder to many on how you haven’t snapped at the genius, then break up with her on the spot. Herta couldn’t care less about that question, more focused on her work than anything else. So they can keep wondering and pondering on why her?

• Being in love with The Herta is like being in love with a ticking time bomb. She’s unpredictable, confusing, and you never know what she might be working on. Unless she’s working on you, of course. However, keep on dreaming, because you aren’t worthy enough to be The Herta’s test subject, no no, you don’t have anything too interesting going on, other than being the lover of The Herta. And with that said, it should stay that way. Unless she gets bored.

• Herta can NOT cook. When she wasn’t dating you at the time, her food got cooked by chefs or other colleagues. But now that you both are together, you are now the one who cooks for her. If you refuse to, then Herta always finds a valid reason on why you should, as expected of a genius. Deep inside though, the real reason is because she likes your cooking. The feeling of coming home to a fresh meal from your lover is something she’s heard of plenty of times, but never experienced. It’s a basic concept but a concept that Herta likes, and she doesn’t wish for it to leave any time soon.

• Sometimes Herta can be rather possessive. You belong to her, and her only. It’s a simple rule and shouldn’t be broken under any circumstance. The Herta doesn’t fall on her knees for people, it must be the opposite.

• When you and Herta’s first started dating, Nobody knew you two were even together. And as for right now, she prefers to keep it that way. If people find out you have been messing around with a Genius like Herta, just think of all the enemies that would try to target you. She thinks it would be a hassle to have to protect and worry for your safety, so why not go ahead keep both of your love private?

• But don’t worry, she likes giving you gifts as well. Such as books, jewelry, or clothes. If you’re going to be her lover, at least look attractive with her. Giving her gifts is recommended too, she always accepts them and makes comments on the look.

• However, Herta makes BRUTALLY honest comments. So if you give her an ugly handmade object or wear an outfit she doesn’t like, Herta won’t hesitate to explain why she finds it ugly and aesthetically unpleasant to the eyes. Don’t take it personal though, it’s to help you improve in areas you lack. You can then fill in those gaps and meet your girlfriend’s standards, or that’s atleast what Herta claims.

• Herta doesnt show any affection in public, nor does she initiate any. This counts in private spaces, such as your shared home, or her vast library. Other than a few drags of her finger down your chest or on your chin, she doesn’t do anything. But, if you were to initiate some sort of affection, she wouldn’t resist. Herta might also give you the same affection back on occasion, maybe some soft kisses on the cheek or lips, cuddles, etc. Do not get too excited though, it doesn’t mean she will do these things often, you have to earn them from her.

• If you’re smart and somehow impress her, this can be somewhat a ‘turn on’ but not in the way you think. Herta would be curious on how smart you are, testing you here and there on topics a normal human or space station employee wouldn’t understand. Get them all right and you’d satisfy her more than before. As said before, knowledge is a turn on for her. Having a lover who may be smart enough to understand things others can’t is something she could work with very well. She may even have you assist her with experiments or have you observe projects.

• You have your own bodyguard, which is one of Herta’s puppets. This is mostly because of your safety, I mean, she would never want to lose you. The universe is vast and danger could be at any corner of the galaxy. You’re going to need someone to watch over you, so why not one of her puppets? She has many and plus they all carry hammers with strong defense mechanisms.

hey!

i really wanted to make and post something special for aromantic awareness week this year but i just had so much going on recently that i didnt have any time to do anything personal at all i thought id share some thoughts now anyways

i had a comic in mind exploring my hc for matt as a romance positive demiromantic (and also just touching on experiences as an aro, lilith was going to be there too and it was gonna be this whole thing) because i feel like there really is an underrepresentation of people on the aromantic spectrum who really do love the idea of romantic love and want to have it but cant help their difficulties falling into it. (because it really is an experience that can hurt a lot and its easy to feel like there isnt anyone else who feels the same way)

i feel like it fits with him being hinted in the show with wanting a romantic relationship (dancing with celene, only letting bria call him matty, "liking" the literal abomaton robot) but it never really working out.

as an aromantic person i grew up 'assigning' myself crushes on people a lot just because i thought the only way to be super close in your love for someone was through romance. and especially when you grow up in a way where you're not even sure what a good relationship with another person is, knowing how you feel can be very difficult

but its still possible to want that as an arospec and it doesnt make you any less valid in your identity

i really love exploring the idea of platonic love with matt and gus and that being the basis of their entire relationship. romantic love comes too, after a while (and i mean a while), but thats not what makes their relationship any more special or more close

honestly i think thats why i like gus and matt so much. i feel like with many of the other ships in the show romance comes on really quick or is already there from the start (and thats no hate on them btw! they are adorable and sweet!) while with them i can imagine a relationship not built so strongly on romance and that connects with me more as an arospec

and yeah. also just wanted to tell my fellow aros, no matter where they fall on the spectrum:

Atlas: We've reevaluated the situation and have chosen to ban this individual from all of Octocon's communities. Please don't hesitate to message me if you have any questions. Our decision to take inaction was mostly guided by the fact that both individuals involved were minors at the time of the incident, and that the incident occurred 3 years ago, but we now realize that the possibility of falsely banning someone is much less important than potentially putting our community at risk. vent. i feel scared because i want help but i'm also terrified about being involuntarily sent to a mental hospital again because ive been before and they put me in handcuffs on the ride there and it was really scary it made my wrists hurt and i got really dizzy and faint because they put me on such a high dose of antidepressants so fast. and now i feel like i need help because im so paranoid and im tired of hallucinating and tired of searching for hidden messages that logically dont exist but i have to look for anyways just in case but i want some kind of help but im terrified at the possibility of being sent back and losing my autonomy again. and im terrified of meds too because this all started months ago when my doctor denied my refill for my snris and i ran out and i was forced to stop them cold turkey and i couldnt ever figure out how to get a refill approved because i was stuck in bed feeling so so sick and i started hallucinating (although i was before just never consistently) and ever since then they never went away and things have been getting worse and im terrified of ever being so dependant on a medecine again if my doctor could just take it away like that and put me through that. but i thinki have to take the risk anyway because i need help. i wish i didnt have to weigh the danger of being alone with symptoms versus the danger of doctors having more power over me. im also scared of losing my hallucinations because they can be really scary but usually i just see bugs/animals everywhere and it makes me feel like im not so alone. but also sometimes they get dangerous to me and i dont think its safe to be alone. also thank you for your blog because it makes me feel less alone. sorry if this doesnt make any sense it feels like its been harder to think and communicate what i want to say.

I completely get your worries. Personally I have now, after a decade in psychiatry, given up on "getting help" through the psychiatric system because being a patient in said system has been more harmful than helpful time after time, to a point where I don't consider the "help" generally offered genuinely helpful, at least not for me personally.

But I get feeling like you need to do something - I've been there myself on several occassions in the past - and I know some people genuinely do benefit from some of the help offered by formal psychiatry. So I'm not telling you not to seek help if you feel it's worth the risks for you. I think you know far more about what you need than I do, and I wish you luck. I just wanted to say that your trauma and concerns related to the psychiatric system are real and valid.
