hey just for the record, if you’re on r/ao3 and keep running into these kinds of comments on bookmark related posts — it’s not a good take. calling someone’s writing “slop” and saying it deserves criticism for being bad BECAUSE it’s posted publicly might seem like a nuanced take, but I promise it isn’t.

yes, sometimes us writers get a little too obsessed over a cryptic comment or bookmark; no, that doesn’t actually mean the solution is to say whatever you want in them because authors “deserve” your honesty. 

I know we’re in a touchy time for readers and writers, but comments like these are NOT kind, refreshing, or nuanced. they’re just kind of mean and discouraging.

Ever since the new Champion of Magic appeared, the mages have gotten out of hand. They have become less zealous in following the rules, because they know that there is someone who will always clean up after them. The entire magical world breathed a sigh of relief when a new Champion was found. And from that day on, many laws were broken.

Then Billy's relationship with the mages can be described as a single father and hundreds of children without any control.

As the Champion of Magic, he must monitor everything magical so that nothing goes wrong. But the other mages, even though they know how much weight lies on Captain Marvel's shoulders, still do something.

Situation:

Billy:*sleeping*

Magician:*kicks door open* CHAMPION!!

Billy:*jumps out of bed looking around in panic*

So Billy, in Captain Marvel form, goes to the poor woman to remove the hiccup curse. Let's just say that the magician got quite a lecture.

okay but imagine you are a researcher at the magnus institute looking through the archives for a paper you're writing and one of the statements you're using as a source happens to be on tape so you put it into the tape recorder and this absolute THEATRE KID of a millenial starts girlbossing his way through a spooky story about a soldier being slowly hypnotized by a supernatural mythical representative of war and at the end he abruptly switches off his dramatic voice and returns to "snobby scholar" disses the account entirely and throws in a random but clearly gay snide remark about one of his coworkers for good measure and the tape clicks off after a dun-dun-DUN and at the end of it all youre just sat there completely baffled at this chad of an academic who is apparently so annoyed at the disorganization of his new position that he must mention it seven times per sentence (along with the side comments about that other case with the guy who was haunted by an immortal spider and ended up wrapped in spiderweb post-death TOTALLY COINCIDENTALLY) like "well i can sure use this in my research because it has lots of useful verified information in it and definitely does not exist just so a man can spout his poorly disguised homoerotic yearning out loud into an outdated device full of lo-fi charm"

What happened to the road that lead to ____? Where is ____? Was his cog taken at emergence like everyone else? Or was it taken later? Is there a reason he thrives with violence?
