Free Space

Summary: Carlos helps Jane through her mother ignoring her, and Jane finds that it’s quite nice to have someone who unconditionally listens to her. Shameless Jarlos fluff. 

  Jane headed down the sidewalk, sighing deeply as she couldn’t quite shake the feeling of sadness that seemed to pervade her every sense. She was headed to the coffee shop that her and Carlos were supposed to meet at for their date today, but her previous excitement for this occasion was significantly dampened by recent happenings.

  It was actually an ongoing saga of events that continued to happen.

  And it was all surrounding her mother.

  Of course, Jane loved her mother, but Fairy Godmother, despite her seemingly perfect ways, could sometimes be severely frustrating in her way of getting caught up in things and ignoring or forgetting what was most important in life.

  Like Jane.

  And when it happened, no matter how used to it that Jane was, it still hurt the girl’s feelings terribly. And she knew her mother didn’t mean to, but that didn’t particularly make her feel any better. She just wished that Fairy Godmother would remember her own daughter a little more often.

  Before she could contemplate this much longer, she had arrived at the coffee shop where she knew Carlos was sitting inside waiting. She took a deep breath, trying to compose herself so that she could hide most of her unhappiness.

  She then pushed the door and walked inside. She looked around the shop, and before long, she spotted Carlos sitting at a table and waving to her. She couldn’t help but smile at him despite her feelings. He always did manage to cheer her up even when she felt terrible.

  Jane headed over to join him, and before she could pull her chair out, he hopped out of his own quickly.

  “Here, let me!” Carlos eagerly told her before freezing and staring at her with wide eyes as he realized how loud that came out. Jane just giggled in reply to him.

  “I mean, uh… May I?” Carlos questioned, and Jane easily nodded, giving him permission. The smile returned to his face as he headed to her side of the table and pulled out her chair. She sat down carefully, and he pushed her chair in before returning to his seat.

  “Thank you,” Jane expressed, and he nodded happily. However, after a moment, he looked at her somewhat strangely, narrowing his eyes. She just smiled in return, hoping to maybe throw him off track as Audrey so often discussed doing with boys.

  Immediately, he returned her expression and started conversation. Jane couldn’t help but feel a small hint of confidence. She must have thrown him off. After all, she was taught by the best.

  But she did feel just a bit bad for it. She hated deceiving him, but she didn’t want to upset him or make their date anything but wonderful.

  “Did you get here okay?” he asked, and she nodded.

  “Yeah. It’s only a little ways away from me and Mom’s place, so it wasn’t too far of a walk,” Jane returned, trying to muster some of her usual happiness that she ordinarily had when she addressed him.

  “I can’t wait to be sixteen. I’ll get a real driver’s license instead of this stupid learner’s permit, and then I can pick you up and take you to our dates,” Carlos explained before stopping and looking at her somewhat shyly.

  “Well… If that’s what you want, I mean…”

  “Oh, yeah, it’d be wonderful to be picked up,” Jane assured him, trying to make him feel a bit better. However, she still sounded somewhat unhappy, despite her best efforts, and he looked at her strangely.

  “Hey… Are you okay?” the boy asked, and Jane forced a smile, hoping her trick would work once again and that Audrey’s sound advice wouldn’t let her down.

  “Yeah, I’m fine. Why?” Jane questioned, and Carlos furrowed his brow. Apparently, Audrey’s method didn’t work for Jane so well.

  “Are you sure? You seem kind of strange,” Carlos expressed, before shaking his head at realizing how bad that sounded.

  “No, not strange! Like weird. Wait, that sounds bad! Not weird! I meant--- oh, goodness… You seem different! Upset!” Carlos clarified, stumbling over himself, and Jane smiled softly at the boy’s diligent efforts.

  After a moment, she sighed deeply, looking down. She knew she had to tell him. It wasn’t that she thought he wouldn’t understand. It was more that she just didn’t want to bother him with the problem.

  But, alas, the time had come to spill her guts.

  “There is something,” Jane finally admitted, and Carlos stopped in his awkwardness as he stared at her. Before she knew it, he had reached across the table, his palms open as he offered his hands.

  She wasted no time in taking them, treasuring the tender gesture as he gazed at her sweetly.

  “Tell me,” he gently commanded, and she shifted her gaze to meet his own. He suddenly looked a bit shy, and he added, “If you want to, of course.”

  “It’s really nothing,” Jane attempted to dismiss as she reengaged her staring contest with the table. He craned his neck down to try to meet her gaze, and she glanced up at him.

  “Well, it’s bothering you, so it must be something,” Carlos chuckled a bit, allowing a trace of one of those humongous grins of his to tug at the corners of his lips. She felt her heart swell with affection for the boy and he just grinned somewhat lopsidedly at her.

  “And anything that’s bothering you, I definitely want to hear about,” Carlos continued, and she brought her gaze back to him swiftly. He was openly volunteering to listen to her, and he seemed to truly want to. And with the way he was looking at her, it was as if she were the only person in the room.

  Which was a nice change from her and her mother’s situation.

  “Well… Are you sure? I don’t want to ruin our date or anything,” Jane warned carefully, giving him a chance to back out if he wanted. He nodded without hesitation, and she felt her heart swell with affection toward him.

  “Absolutely one hundred percent sure. You could never ruin our date,” Carlos resolutely told her, and Jane felt a smile tugging the corners of her lips despite her upset feelings surrounding the situation with her mother.

  “Okay… I was talking to Mom this morning. Well… More like trying to,” Jane somewhat wryly added, swallowing a bit as she allowed a slightly unhappy look onto her face.

  “But I was halfway into telling her all about my problems with math in school, and then she all of a sudden tells me I’m going to have to wait because Mulan was calling for some reason or another. And she never answers the phone when somebody like Mal or Ben or Adam or Belle are talking,” Jane retold the story, telling her side of the encounter, and Carlos nodded in reply.

  “I mean, I know they’re the royal family and stuff, but,” Jane trailed off, finding herself somewhat hesitant to continue.

  “I guess I just thought that maybe… Maybe she’d wait to answer the phone for me, too,” Jane somewhat sadly expressed, and Carlos squeezed her hands reassuringly. Jane looked at him gratefully before continuing.

  “I mean, I am her daughter, so I just thought…? I don’t know,” Jane shook her head, trying to find the words, and she couldn’t help but feel bad for dumping this off on Carlos. However, he did specifically ask for it. But he also didn’t know exactly what he was getting into.

  “Mom’s just so busy all the time with everything, and I know she has a very important job and she has to take care of things!” Jane informed him, almost sounding as if she had recited this exact line over and over. Of course, she had. It was actually the words that had been ingrained in her mind since she was a little girl.

  “But sometimes… Well… Sometimes, I just… I feel kind of ignored? I don’t know. It’s silly, but---”

  “No, no, no, it’s not silly! Not at all! I actually kind of get it,” Carlos interrupted with that adorable crooked grin as he squeezed her hands in his own gently. Jane softly smiled, feeling her heart swell a bit with his expression.

  “My mom--- who was definitely and obviously not nearly as amazing as yours is usually!” Carlos quickly clarified, and Jane giggled a bit, the boy’s efforts already starting to make her feel a bit better.

  “My mom usually didn’t listen to pretty much anything I had to say, and it’s pretty frustrating when you feel like nobody’s listening,” Carlos explained further, and Jane nodded understandingly.

  “Yeah… It’s like, ‘My thoughts are valid, too, you know?’” Jane admitted, and Carlos nodded, his warm brown eyes boring into her own baby blue ones.

  “Definitely. Like just because we’re quiet or whatever doesn’t mean we don’t have an opinion or important things to say,” Carlos added, and Jane smiled at him, feeling her heart flutter.

  “Yeah,” Jane quietly agreed, marveling in the wonder that was this boy before her. He truly was amazing. He was so incredibly understanding and so amazingly sweet to her. He never made her feel bad about her feelings or about her thoughts, and he was always there to listen to her. Carlos was just perfect.

  “It’s so nice to have somebody to talk to that’s on the same page,” Jane expressed after a moment of silence. In response, Carlos’s features shifted to something that was almost unidentifiable. However, it wasn’t uncomfortable in the least. It actually made her feel something strange and almost gooey inside.

  It was a bit of a scary feeling, but she found she kind of liked it. And Jane had felt a lot of scary feelings before. But this one was different from the rest.

  “I’m so glad I can talk to you about this stuff,” Jane told him sweetly, only a bit embarrassed with herself.

  “Hey, this is free space,” Carlos expressed with a shrug accentuating his words, and Jane furrowed her brow slightly, looking at him with some confusion.

  “What?” she asked, gazing at him curiously. He laughed a bit, looking down at their joined hands on the table before looking back up at her.

  “Free space. That’s what me, Jay, Evie, and Mal call it when we’re together by ourselves and we’ve got something to say. It’s free space to say how you feel and for nobody to judge and everybody to listen,” Carlos explained himself, and she grinned, finding herself once again pleasantly surprised as a result of his astounding compassion and kindness that he seemed to have in overwhelming abundance.

  “I like that,” Jane replied, and Carlos smiled sweetly. She felt her heart skip a beat as he gently ran his thumbs over her hands gently.

  She had truly never met a boy with such a big heart and that was so willing to stop everything and listen to her. Of course, she had never dated anyone before, and she was basing her experience with boys upon her dealings with her male friends like Ben. But even Ben didn’t listen to her like Carlos did.

  It was just such a nice difference from what she was used to.

  “Y’know, I really like you a lot,” Jane expressed, barely holding herself back from saying what she truly felt underneath. She was worried that she might scare him off if she used the other l-word at this moment. Of course, she also wasn’t sure he felt as strongly as she did.

  “I like you a lot, too,” Carlos reciprocated, and if the look on his face was anything to go by, she might could assume that he might even feel the l-word toward her as she did toward him.

  But it would all be discovered in due time. Right now, they were just a boy and a girl grinning dopily at one another in a world all of their own.

I'm going to change my ship 💔

Yes, Disney managed to disappoint me once more ...

Yesterday was the premiere and came out a video showing what would happen in the movie. I'm excited about the movie, but at the same time I have mixed feelings, I do not play with something like that. That Disney has let sell the novelization before the premiere has been a BIG mistake. Everybody finds spoilers everywhere.

ATTENTION: If you do not want to see all my sand I invite you not to read the post.

So for now the healthiest for me is to change ship, my new ship will be Carlos and Jane. 

They are tender and the best thing is that they are canon. (If the ship that most hated. So, I'm crazy) *RuinedtheJaylos* 😂😢

  Now, what he has given me as a blow to the whole face, is to see this...

Why Disney Why?? 😢😢😢😢😢😢

How is the villain have to make me suffer even more (logic Disney?), If, what my eyes see do not lie. Uma fell in love with Ben. Great, I do not want anything with Disney anymore.

It reminded me of HSM, Sharpay was in love with Troy UNTIL THE END of the saga and still continued with her crush to the end and we all saw how Gabriela trampled to the end to Sharpay, all for being the "bad". Honestly I do not want this to happen in Descendants, but it seems to happen, so now I'll just see Janlos.

 I was excited about the character of Harry Hook because he broke with the typical scenario. (You know, love triangles between two girls and one boy). But at the same time he felt danger that he was part of the love triangle of two boys and a girl. Everything changed when the video came out of What’s my name?, because it was shown that he was no longer interested in his old crush and lives or lived by Uma. Now it only remains as one more character that Uma used, I would not be surprised if he does not come out in the next movie.

 Mal got it, won again and once again left Uma in ridicule. 

Congratulations! (not really)

When rivalry is not enough, now they want to put love. I still have the love / hate towards the main character. That's why at the time the only thing I look forward to is Evie because she was the ONLY one who really wanted to go to Auradon and fulfill her dreams and get it. So if you are going to be fans of someone who is Evie.

Evie deserves more development as a character, hopefully this series that they speak comes to light, where she is the protagonist.

Disney sold us so hard to new villains that I became very fan and now I do not know if I feel good with the end. 

I HATE DISNEY!

I have a couple of Descendants fics that I’ve written/am currently writing if any of you want to check them out. Note: I am not claiming that they’re good, they just exist. Also, they’re all on a site called Quotev which I don’t hear people talk about very often but if enough people are interested, I might put them on AO3/fanfic.net too.

And I think they all include musical numbers and all of the canon ships (Bal, Devie, Janlos, and Huma which is canon don’t fight me) which I know is a very dividing thing in the fandom but I did it anyways. 

First up is Poison to the Core, which was written to a sequel to the original Descendants that takes place two years after the first movie. The events of D2 and D3 didn’t happen in this, since I wrote it about a month after D1 was released. It revolves around the next five VKs chosen to come to Auradon: Jaime, the daughter of Captain Hook, Sally, the daughter of Ursula, Hart, the son of the Queen of Hearts, Haddie, the daughter of Hades, and Gavin, the son of Gaston (the names are horrible leave me alone) and they go on a similar journey to goodness as the core four. Jaime is the main character, and lived in Neverland with her mother and father for 11 years up until her mom got pregnant with her younger sister, then after complications with the birth, her mom died and the rest of them got sent to the Isle. Jaime learns some interesting things about her heritage and how everything is not what it seems, and there’s also a love plot because this is Descendants and daughter of Hook vs daughter of Peter Pan conflict because it’s Descendants and there pretty much has to be. There’s a sequel to Poison to the Core called Good is the New Bad where a lot more VKs are invited over to Auradon Prep and mayhem ensues as they plot to bring down Auradon. The main antagonists are all of Hans and Anastasia’s kids (because Lady Tremaine wanted her daughter to snag a prince). There’s also a Jaime having a mental breakdown, Elsa’s daughter figure skating, and a battle of the bands subplot. I recently started The Right Side of Wrong, which I refer to as Hook Kids in my head because guess what, Jaime got another story due to the fact that I love her. This takes place concurrently with the events of Descendants 2, with Jaime as the younger sister of Harriet, Harry, and CJ. She’s the leader of a crew that includes her four friends from Poison to the Core, but this time they’re related to Uma, Gil, and Mal. This one is finally not about Jaime, but still takes place in Descendants 2. The daughter of Lumiere and Plumette is Ben’s best friend since childhood and advisor with all of his royal responsibilities. She follows Ben, Evie, Jay, and Carlos to get Mal to return to Auradon. When Ben is kidnapped, she goes undercover as a VK to get intel they can use to get him back safely, and maybe she falls for Gil in the process. It also goes a lot into Gil’s backstory and the Uma vs Mal rivalry which were two things that were really fun for me to explore. This might be my favorite thing I’ve written so far? Another self indulgent fanfic I’ve started with a kinda cheesy premise is Beauty and the Thief (feel free to cringe). Ben’s twin sister Rosaline is older than him by a few minutes, and set to take the throne of the United States of Auradon in a few months. For her first proclamation, she invites over four teenagers from the Isle of the Lost, but this time, Jafar is the most powerful villain, not Maleficent. Because let’s be real, a grand vizier, sorcerer, and all powerful genie with political ambitions is likely more powerful than a woman who cursed a baby because she didn’t get invited to the party. Fight me on it (but not literally I’m both emotionally and physically fragile). Rosaline is dating Chad at the start of the fic, and he’s an even bigger jerk than he was in the movies and I love hating him in this. There’s also other original characters that are the kids of Cinderella and Prince Charming, Snow White and Florian, Aladdin and Jasmine, and Roger and Anita, and a girls’ night truth or dare scene that honestly I might just post on here because Lonnie dare’s are *chef’s kiss*. Finally, there’s a book of what was supposed to be a series of oneshots with Descendants ships/characters with plots inspired by songs off of Taylor Swift’s album Lover but so far it’s just Huma inspired by Cornelia Street. It’s also 20 pages long. Oops? It takes place post D3 with them trying to navigate this new stage in their relationship/actually admitting that they have feelings for each other in the midst of trying to find their footing in Auradon. Gil also makes many appearances after returning  from adventures with Jay (and he might become dog dad Gil who knows) and honestly I’m really happy with how this turned out, and I’m eventually going to write more with the other 17 songs on the album but that hasn’t happened yet. Descendants Shipping

Okay I’m already getting called names and being blocked just because I am supporting my ship. So right now I’m going to list my ships so that if you don’t like it you can not say anything and just go ahead and block me. 

Now what I love about the Descendants series, movie series for I have not read the books yet, is that you can literally ship anyone with anyone. There is evidence for it all. I am supportive of all ships because I can understand where one is coming from with that ship. 

Now I’m not going to name all ships but I’m going to name my top ones so here we go. 

If you all know me you know I am a deep deeeeeep shipper of Uma x Mal! 

I have been shipping this since the What’s my Name scene in D2. I ship it because it’s got so much mystery and questions. How long were they together before she shoved Uma in the sandbox. Their relationship getting respentation in D3 made my inner fangirl really happy. 

Now I understand now with us finding out that Hades is Mals father changes things. But here is the thing, 

It’s Malficiant x Hades => Mal 

For Uma its Hades, Brother Poseidon, Brother Zeus 

    then it’s Poseidon -> Son Triton & Daugther Ursula -> Tritons 7 daughters and Ursulas one daughter Uma. 

They are on completely different sections of the family tree. 

Also this is also based on what origin one goes with. Now in the 1989 little mermaid, the concept that Ursula and Triton was siblings was trashed and deleted from the film. Then in the musical the sibling concept was added. So lets say that when I ship Uma x Mal i follow the original idea of the 1989 film where Ursula has absolute no relation with Triton.

Putting that cousins in royal families got married all the time aside, I am not freaked out by this. If they were sisters then I would have a much bigger problem but where they are on the family tree now I am okay with it and will still sail this ship. So if you don’t like it please just block me and don’t say anything against me. 

Now moving on.

This also doesn’t mean I don’t ship Uma in several other ships like HarryxUma, UmaxHarryxGil, UmaxEvie, etc. 

My other big ship thanks to D3 is Gil x Jay 

Oh my gawd this ship is adorable and I love it so! But I also ship Jay x Carlos, Harry x Carlos, Jay x Harry, Gil x Harry. 

The ship I will protect with a army is Carlos x Jane!!! Oh my gawd am I pissed that Janlos, I’m calling it Janlos not Jarlos because I know the Jay x Carlos fans use that as a ship name, did not get a kiss scene!!! Ben and Mal did, Evie and Doug did but not JANLOS!!! ARGH!!! 

Then the final one I majorly ship thanks to D2 is Jay x Lonnie, I still love Jay x Gil, but I’ve been shipping this so deeply since D2 that I can’t let it go. It’s such a cute pairing and it’s wonderful. I wish they would have gotten something in D3 but I understand and was happy that we got the Jay x Gil instead. 

Alright those are my major ships and I hope you have enjoyed this post. If any of these ships make you uncomfortable then I understand. But this is what I like and I am not going to change it, and I don’t appreciate being called nasty things because of it. The ships I almost forget are Dizzy x Celia, Freddie x Mal, Mal x Jay, etc.

What about the boys from Descendants 1-3? Which ones radiate the most sub and which ones show switch or dom energy?

I am so sorry for getting to this so late. I wanted to rewatch the first two movies to get a feel for the boys again, but packing for my trip took up so much time. Anyway, here we go.

Jay: Definitely switch energy. He's fine going with the flow and following Mal's lead, but he sometimes has moments where he'll be absolute dom energy. His interactions with Harry in D3 have so much dom energy. Actually, his energy around Chad in D2 is also very dom.

Carlos: My good subby boy. He is such a sub and I love him for it. The way he goes with the flow when Mal's in charge, the way he looks to Jay for protection and guidance, the way he's so adorable with Jane. My favorite Carlos scene is him giving Jane that Janlos necklace because it's clear he's seeking her approval, but he's so used to not getting approval that he instantly assumes she'll hate it. But then Jane grabs him and he stops and the hopeful look in his eyes is just precious and wow I love him. 

Ben: Sub King Man! Ben radiates sub energy, but not as much as Carlos and Chad. He's willing to let Mal take the lead in… pretty much everything. He doesn't do something without checking to make sure she's in her comfort zone first (though she's really good at misleading, as D2 showed, so he had to get more perceptive). He's generally unwilling to go against someone he considers an authority figure (like his parents), he aims to please at any chance he can get, and he loves showing off to make his dom laugh.

Chad: SUCH BIG SUB ENERGY. He actually has a bit of Brat energy in him, too. He acts big and tough in front of Ben, Doug, Jay, but a single word from Audrey and he'll crumble immediately. This is, of course, negating most of D3. In the beginning, though, he does still have some of that Brat energy. It's just that he's such a submissive boi, he craves to the bigger Brat energy, Audrey's.

Doug: During a conversation, I told @foxfaceintheflesh "Doug isn't even a cutout, he's just cardboard." And it wasn't until I was watching D1 and D2 that I realized, wow, Doug has almost as much sub energy as Carlos. In D1, he is absolutely head over heels ready to please Evie. She was into Chad at the time, but if she said the word, he really would have knelt at her feet and kissed her boot. In the second movie, she silences his fears easily and he doesn't doubt her for a second. All he needed was her validation and he melted like a hershey kiss in an Arizona summer. The first movie also has him caving to Chad, even though he clearly didn't wanna. I suspect that has a little to do with Chad's bullying tendencies, but also, Doug's willingness to please. 

Harry: MY PIRATE BOI! Harry is an interesting case. He is dominant, no doubt about that, but he chooses who he submits to. It's very similar to Evie's low-key dom energy. Harry in D2 had really high key dom energy EXCEPT when he was around Uma. When it comes to Uma, he wholeheartedly becomes the subbiest sub to ever sub the seven seas. There was a post I reblogged that said it better, but like, the way he acts around Uma in the second movie, not touching her without permission, bowing to her, the absolutely lovestruck way he looks at her, talks about her, talks TO her. He had such hard sub energy. And then, in D3, after being away from Uma for two years, he still has that sub energy, but instead of asking permission, you can see it more in his direct actions. Pressing close to her at all times, moving with her when she leans to look around Evie, putting a supportive hand on her arm during… well, pick a scene. And yet, around everyone else, from Jay to Ben to Mal (not Evie and we all know why), he is the dominant one in the conversation, walking with a purposeful swagger to his gait, getting in everyone's space like he owns it, his body language…  Harry is a dom, but when he chooses to submit, he submits with his whole self.

Gil: Subby cutie. His actor described him as a golden retriever. That descriptor, by definition, is submissive. Any character given that descriptor is submissive (see also, Mirei Shikishima). He's the brawn, perfectly fine going along with Harry and Uma, just wanting to experience. He has a very "will do as you ask so long as no one gets hurt" kind of energy. Likely willing to try anything. I really do love Gil, even though he was mostly on the sidelines.

Hades: Hades is ROCKING that Brat energy! Oh my goodness, he comes off like a dom, especially in the song, but just the smaller movements he makes, not directly confrontational and more playful, make him more inclined toward, "I'm not submitting until you make me" and I love that energy from him. I mean, I could be reading it wrong because, you know, he's talking to his DAUGHTER during the song, but the way he speaks about Maleficent gives me big Brat vibes. Almost as big as Audrey.

King Beast: You. Stupid. Switchy. Asshole. Beast has a very switch attitude about him. The way he was going to go beast when Maleficent showed up in D1 and his immediately jumping to Hades' challenge in D3 are clearly the actions of a dom. yes i do! i went with jarlos since that was the canon ship name from descendants 3. but yeah, jarlos is jane x carlos, jay x carlos is jaylos and i write for both :))

As much as I love Descendants, I don't understand why everyone feels the need to make every character gay and hate all straight ships. I have NO problem with different sexualities and I'm apart of the community. Like everyone hates Janlos mostly because they ship Jaylos. Summary; a explanation why Carlos wasn't at the wedding that doesn't kill him off.

.... it's because he lost a bet to Evie and is hiding from Jane because they now have to name their firstborn baby 'Cane' or 'Janlos'. Which also explains why Jane isn't there because she's tracking him down.

Both. It's both of them and we all know it.

Again, the answer is both.

Jane because Carlos doesn't feel comfortable doing that without her permission.

Jane because sometimes Carlos gets so homesick because he misses his cousins and the Badun cousins that he won't leave his bed. So she'll start a pillow fight like they would have to get him out of bed.

Carlos because isle habits. He wants to make sure Jane is safe before he goes to sleep. He use to do it for Claudine Frollo and Evie too, once upon a time.

Jane. She's too absent minded in the morning to pay attention to it , though Carlos does, occasionally, do it too.
