Comic artist should spend more time analysing what a character would wear im so serious I hate these ugly h&m fits. What happened to charas having unique styles and outfits.
#there was one panel from urban legemds that sparked this notion. the one from the jason centric drug story. where he imagines the wayne#family and co happy and together. a lukely explanation is that jason todd has absolutely zero taste. but those are npc outfits i drew at 10#mt#i miss comic artists who had a passion for unique designs and fashion

In my Zeus bag today so I'm just gonna put it out there that exactly none of the great Ancient Greek warrior-heroes stayed loyal and faithful and completely monogamous and yet none of them have their greatness questioned nor do we question why they had the cultural prominence that they did and still do.
Jason, the brilliant leader of the Argo, got cold feet when it came to Medea - already put off by some of her magic and then exiled from his birthland because of her political ploys, he took Creusa to bed and fully intended on marrying her despite not properly dissolving things with Medea.
Theseus was a fierce warrior and an incredibly talented king but he had a horrible temper and was almost fatally weak to women. This is the man who got imprisoned in the Underworld for trying to get a friend laid, the man who started the whole Attic War because he couldn't keep his legs closed.
And we cannot at all forget Heracles for whom a not inconsiderable amount of his joy in life was loving people then losing the people around him that he loved. Wives, children, serving boys, mentors, Heracles had a list of lovers - male and female - long enough to rival some gods and even after completing his labours and coming down to the end of his life, he did not have one wife but three.
And y'know what, just because he's a cultural darling, I'll put Achilles up here too because that man was a Theseus type where he was fantastic at the thing he was born to do (that is, fight whereas Theseus' was to rule) but that was not enough to eclipse his horrid temper and his weakness to young pretty things. This is the man that killed two of Apollo's sons because they wouldn't let him hit - Tenes because he refused to let Achilles have his sister and Troilus who refused Achilles so vehemently that he ran into Apollo's temple to avoid him and still couldn't escape.
All four of these men are still celebrated as great heroes and men. All four of these men are given the dignity of nuance, of having their flaws treated as just that, flaws which enrich their character and can be used to discuss the wider cultural point of what truly makes a hero heroic. All four of these men still have their legacies respected.
Why can that same mindset not be applied to Zeus? Zeus, who was a warrior-king raised in seclusion apart from his family. Zeus who must have learned to embrace the violence of thunder for every time he cried as a babe, the Corybantes would bang their shields to hide the sound. Zeus learned to be great because being good would not see the universe's affairs in its order.
The wonderful thing about sympathy is that we never run out of it. There's no rule stopping us from being sympathetic to multiple plights at once, there's no law that necessitate things always exist on the good-evil binary. Yes, Zeus sentenced Prometheus to sufferation in Tartarus for what (to us) seems like a cruel reason. Prometheus only wanted to help humans! But when you think about Prometheus' actions from a king's perspective, the narrative is completely different: Prometheus stole divine knowledge and gifted it to humans after Zeus explicitly told him not to. And this was after Prometheus cheated all the gods out of a huge portion of wealth by having humans keep the best part of a sacrifice's meat while the gods must delight themselves with bones, fat and skin. Yes, Zeus gave Persephone away to Hades without consulting Demeter but what king consults a woman who is not his wife about the arrangement of his daughter's marriage to another king? Yes, Zeus breaks the marriage vows he set with Hera despite his love of her but what is the Master of Fate if not its staunchest slave?
The nuance is there. Even in his most bizarre actions, the nuance and logic and reason is there. The Ancient Greeks weren't a daft people, they worshipped Zeus as their primary god for a reason and they did not associate him with half the vices modern audiences take issue with. Zeus was a father, a visitor, a protector, a fair judge of character, a guide for the lost, the arbiter of revenge for those that had been wronged, a pillar of strength for those who needed it and a shield to protect those who made their home among the biting snakes. His children were reflections of him, extensions of his will who acted both as his mercy and as his retribution, his brothers and sisters deferred to him because he was wise as well as powerful. Zeus didn't become king by accident and it is a damn shame he does not get more respect.
#ginger rambles#ginger chats about greek myths#greek mythology#It's Zeus Apologist day actually#For the record Jason is my personal favourite of these guys#The argonauts are extremely underrated for literally no reason#And Jason's wit and sheer ability to adapt along with his piousness are traits that are so far away from what usually gets highlighted#with the typical Greek warrior-hero that I've just never stopped being captivated by him#Conversely I still do not understand what people see in Achilles#I respect him and his legacy I respect the importance of his tale and his cultural importance I promise I do#However I personally can't stand the guy LMAO#How do you get warned twice TWICE both by your mother and by Athena herself that going after Apollo's children is a bad idea#And still have the audacity to be mad and surprised when Apollo is gunning for Specifically You during the war you're bringing to His City#That You Specifically and Exclusively had a choice in avoiding#ACHILLES COULD'VE JUST SAID NO#I know that's not the point however so many other members of the Greek camp were simply casualties of Fate in every conceivable way man#Achilles looked at every terrible choice he could possibly make said “Well I'm gonna die anyway 🤷🏽” and proceeded to make the choice#so hard that he angered god#That's y'all's man right there#I left out Perseus because truthfully I don't actually know much about him#I haven't studied him even a fraction as much as I've studied some of the other big culture heroes and none of this is cited so i don't wan#to talk about stuff I don't know 100%#Anyway justice for Zeus fr#Gimme something give me literally anything other than the nonsense we usually get for him#This goes for Hera too btw#Both the king and queen of the skies are done TERRIBLY by wider greek myth audiences and it's genuinely disheartening to see#If y'all could make excuses for Achilles to forgive his flaws y'all can do it for them#They have a lot more to sympathise with I'll tell you that#(that is a completely biased statement; you are completely free and encouraged to enjoy whichever figures spark joy)#zeus

granting Jason full rights to scream at the top of his lungs during The Incident™ at the end of blood of olympus. i did too buddy.
he has rights to have at least one mental breakdown.

Lost Bird Returns
It wasn't strange that Danny chased Desiree, or that she refused to return to the Infinite Realms. What was strange was that she decided to leave Amity Park.
That made things 200% more difficult for the halfa because outside of Amity no one had the "no desiring" rule; while Danny was grateful that Amity was kept "secret" and no one knew what was going on inside (and that was a pain in the ass to accomplish), it was also a disadvantage in those situations.
Mainly because Desiree could stay invisible and listen to people's wishes. Like at that moment, where he found her smiling next to Batman, and damn it, what wish had she granted?
Batman, unaware of his unfortunate situation, was watching the streets of Gotham gloomily. It was Jason's death anniversary and they'd had another fight, which happened a lot in those days, but Bruce couldn't help but think of simpler days.
"I wish he could get his spark back" the dark knight lamented, accidentally sealing his son's fate.
And though Danny had caught Desiree in the thermos, the wish had already been made. The halfa didn't know enough to reverse it either.
A few days later rumors began to be heard of a ghost haunting Gotham. A boy dressed in a burnt uniform with a strange look on his face.
Robin, the lost part of Jason Todd that had been trapped in the Realms so long ago was back, and not even the Lazarus Pits would keep him away this time.
#dpxdc#halfa jason#ghost jason todd#the lazarus pits took a part of Jason when he revived#although they rather separated a part of him and left it behind#they replaced that missing part with anger and fury#but that part was left behind in the Realms#confused and incomplete#dp x dc#dc x dp#when Bruce made the wish#Desiree simply brought the ghost out of its haunt#and she located him in gotham#Jason is about to suffer some emotional Russian roulette#Robin's ghost is looking for his missing part and won't leave until he's whole again#He's the spark that Jason lost#Danny heard about the ghost in Gotham and he's not happy about it#he did so much for Amity to be some kind of Area 51 damn it

Something something Jason feeling like he doesn't quite fit as "Greek" or "Roman" as a metaphor for bisexuality, particularly the semi-canonical bi-coding in his half of experiences during the Cupid scene and how Favonius and Cupid speak to him in parallel to the scenes confirming Nico is gay.
Something something the camps as metaphors for traditionally acceptable forms of relationships and Nico living as a rogue outside of them, rejecting expectation (ergo in himself representing a metaphor of queer identity and living outside of boxes and defined/usually hetero-allonormative/binary ideas of what love/relationships should look like) versus Jason struggling with the expectation to conform to a label and even discussing with Nico both of them remaining at CHB together.
Something something the inverse of Jason shifting away from the camps after he breaks up with Piper, feeling lost and unable to find a place between the camps as he begins to explore his queer identity properly for the first time versus Nico only remaining at CHB because he has entered a relationship. In this essay I will-

Consider:
Leo Valdez was not born. Instead, two pairs of hands form him from bronze and steel and gold. His hair is copper wires so thin they bounce like natural curls, and his eyes glimmer with silver flakes. The joints of his body are plated so delicately, so perfectly, the segments are near indiscernible, smoothly gliding over each other. Faint traces of fingerprints and flecks of impurity are deliberately left behind for their uniqueness, a form of impossible signature of his creators.
Most importantly, gilded bars curl around each other in his chest, protecting the red-red-red flame that pushes his eyes open everyday, that beats in tune with his thoughts, that heats his body to expand and grow.
A metal child is not so different from a human one, and yet is so far from it at the same time. He is curious, about the world, about himself, and he picks apart toys and TV remotes and his arms, spilling their secrets before his constantly shifting eyes. He does not cry from fatigue or thirst or hunger, but a bump, a dent, a scratch never fail to draw tears. He splashes in the rain and snow, carefully bundled in waterproof coats and jackets, and runs from baths like he's possessed, fire flickering in fear.
The first time he meets someone like him, an endeavour he had long thought hopeless, it is a malfunctioning dragon others call for the death of; he is too unpredictable, too dangerous, too broken. Leo looks him in ever-shifting eyes glimmering with silver and sees himself if the cage in his chest ever bends, cracks, shatters, if the gears beneath his skin ever jam and stick and wear down irreversibly.
It is not golden flowers and godly aid that preserve him; just as he'd done for his twin-in-all-but-appearance, he creates a new body, with new fingerprints and impurities mapping his design. His hair is more bronze than copper, now, and his eyes more gold than brass. The plates of his joints scrape against each other faintly, and the gears of his bones grind together uncomfortably — he only had so much time, so much material to use, he could not polish every element of himself in the way he wished, but it holds together.
Most importantly, he reinforces the cage in his chest, coats it in layers upon layers of metal, to ensure his flame will not go out in the explosion, that Festus will be able to salvage it and lay it gently in the chest cavity carefully carved in his new body, bringing it to life.
He returns to Camp, movements more clunky and mechanical than should be, and his siblings finally pin down his segmented limbs, his shifting eyes, his clicking fidgeting. They are ecstatic, just as fascinated with him as they had been with Festus, and he lets them. He lets them take him apart, piece by piece, clean out the sand of Ogygia from his organs, polish and oil his gears until they glide against each other, press new fingerprints, new signatures of belonging, against his skin.
Most importantly, they craft him a secure, intricate cage, with golden flames licking up the bars, with delicate chains shielding it from the elements, and his flame settles inside it, flickering happily, finally truly, truly comfortable in the cage of his body.
Leo Valdez may not have been born, but he was crafted with the most loving hands imaginable, and is that not so much better, for a son of the Craftsman?

Again. The thing about jason is that he has like 1 and half good comics, and the girls that get him GET HIM. But the rest of his comics are the worst they could have possibly done it and 80% of his fans are very vocal about how wrong (and classiest, and misogynistic, and and) they are. So I understand completely why people hate him. I, however
#like sorry he is my favorite character and sometimes you read a jason meta sooso good that it tricks you into thinking his comics are good#and they aren't but that's alright#when it comes to comics I bave mixed feelings about people throwing out canon but when fanon is worse#and are Very loud about their boring ass opinions it does get frustrating amd jtodd is just a very glaring example#I could argue similar with cass but her comics Are actually great for the most part so it's different and most people#don't hate her they just find her boring bc they only consume fanon that flattens her down to a cardboard cutout#idkkkk it's difficult to defend him when really the most we have is a spark of a very interesting concept that never goes anywhere#what am I even rambling about I should go back through my jason bookmarks#(but looking at my ao3 bookmarks is scary bc 75% of them are from before 2020 and my 15 year old taste is. well [COUGH HACK J*YROY])#delete later

My biggest comic pet peeve might be whenever they try to insinuate that Barbara being Batgirl had any bearing on the events of The Killing Joke.
#*banging pots and pans together*#SHE WAS SHOT BECAUSE SHE WAS JAMES GORDON'S DAUGHTER#LITERALLY THE POINT IS THAT SHE WAS SHOT AS A MEANS TO GET TO HIM#IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED REGARDLESS IF SHE WAS BATGIRL OR NOT#(which for the record she actually wasn't at the time)#THE JOKER DOES NOT KNOW NOR DOES HE GIVE A FUCK ABOUT BATGIRL'S REAL IDENTITY#(which again she had already quiet she wasn't even Batgirl anymore)#I just think they need to let her accept that it literally had nothing to do with her#it was not a consequence of her actions in any way#and then let her be so incredibly angry about that#(also we need to stop pretending that The Joker cares about Batgirl as anything more than a way to get to Batman)#(he has a little bit of a special interest in Robins because of Jason#but he shouldn't know he had anything to do with the first batgirl quieting given... he didn't have anything to do with it)#the killing joke#barbara gordon#oracle#batgirl i#the joker#tkj#i read comics#batfam#batfamily#identity crisis is the series that sparked this post#but they do it all the time and it always makes me angry

see i would write my stormlight archive / percy jackson crossover but the fact of the matter is leo would run around calling the stormfather "shiny sky daddy" and would therefore perish in his first highstorm/his first interaction with an honorspren.

@jayden-the-popplio
This situation of your trainer is so odd...
I wish I could help but I never seem this before. Humans turning into Pokemon? Yeah seems it before. Happened to me
But only getting the Pokemon instincts? That's super odd
That's what I'M saying.
Happened fast, too. Samu...
It's still really cool... And I overheard that they're working on fixing the Synchro Thing soon, too! Maybe it won't be as bad as you expect!
Lexi, putting her satellite dish-ass ears to use once again! See, Jason, things won't be so long.
...Is it weird to say-mur that I'm sort of used to this now? I'd like to go back to normal, but this isn't the worst thing ever-rott.
And you thought we were just going to slide on by what you just said, young Popplio? No, sir! WHAT was that about humans being turned into Pokemon?! There's no way that that's a common occurrence... right?

GPTim would really like the Thrilling Adventure Hour/Welcome to Night Vale crossover, well, up until Croach fixes things. But the NV citizens hate the moon *so* much that they make it disappear, but not in their time in the future. So there’s moon destroying and time travel.
On a related note: Aurora would *hate* the TAH/WtNV crossover since the NV citiz-
