The Spooky Nun Horror Manga - Gothic Creepy Dark Art
Tumblr media
This design illustration depicts a possessed nun carrying a reverse cross, exuding a creepy and horror-filled atmosphere. Her face is skull-like, reflecting the demonic possession that has taken hold of her. The artwork features a dark and eerie color palette, further emphasizing the sinister undertones of the image. The possessed nun's appearance is both frightening and captivating, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who views it.
This artwork is perfect for anyone who enjoys horror and macabre imagery, as it encapsulates the eerie and unsettling feeling that comes with demonic possession. The reverse cross serves as a symbol of the inversion and corruption of traditional religious imagery, creating an unsettling juxtaposition for the viewer. The artwork is masterfully rendered in a detailed and realistic style, making the possessed nun seem almost tangible.
Through this artwork, we aim to create a chilling and thought-provoking experience that leaves a lasting impression on viewers. This design is perfect for anyone who enjoys horror or gothic-inspired art and is looking for a piece that captures the macabre and unsettling nature of demonic possession.

Chapter 8 - Light amid the Darkness
Tumblr media
Recommended Tea: Earl Grey most definitely (best after-dinner tea IMO)
Been trying to regain my groove the last few nights, and finally at last it comes. (So much so, it spawns a brand new take in fact.)
The Distant Past: December 8, 2019
The main thing that stood out to me was Lucy; maybe it was Sophie Wilcox's portrayal, indelibly imprinted in my media memory such that I can't read the book without picturing her now. But Lucy embodied her name's meaning: light. The example I highlighted then: "I say, where's Edmund" (ranking as the first to note her brother's skulking off).
"Hello! Sorry, but the Future would like a Word..."
Lucy after all is also the one who brings enlightenment to all. She's the one who discovers Narnia, the one who leads her siblings once they join her, the one who introduces Chapter 8 (shedding light not just on Tumnus, but the path to defeating the darkness embodied by the darkness). Of greatest interest on reflection is her relationship to her eldest brother and what it connotes on a deeper level (explored in a future post).
Tumblr media
The Recent Past: Christmas Eve (2024)
Actually the current reread. How so? I misplaced my notes from the earlier chapters; these remain the ones I recovered. There is A LOT I noticed here...
Tumnus "taken off by the police" (145) resonating, seeing the day before I heard "Renegade." [** Here in the present, I heard it this week; today I heard "Wanted Dead or Alive" driving home... twice]
Lucy's remark ("It's all on my account") reminding me of a Lewis quote I learned (Good Friday represented a payment of debts by one who had assets on behalf of the spiritually destitute)
"That strange feeling--like the first signs of spring" (146), fittingly recorded now of all days
The song it conjured in my mind, heavily redoubling the emotion of the moment while reading
How Lewis lets each child speak in turn questioning Mr. Beaver, reflecting their primary trait: Edmund's focus on power dynamics, Susan's trepidation ("But shall we see him?") also a nod to the as-yet unknown "Last Battle," Lucy enlightening (nobody questioning if Aslan was a man), and Peter, longing for leadership and light.
Lucy lighting the path (147), asking about their future journey (to the Stone Table) and how to save Tumnus as a result
Meeting Aslan "tomorrow," which for me meant Christmas itself (a gift almost as great as the one I received)
Fitting symbol of Jadis as half-Jinn, like all genies granting wishes that involved trickery (for Edmund)
"In fact we shall be cut off from Aslan" by the Daughter of Lilith resonating like never before somehow
Why? That's more personal and private, private enough to merit a private post in fact. (Link available upon request though.)
Current streak resurrection: 5 days (effortlessly resumed)
Most recent high achieved: 2 months (through February 28)
All-time peak streak: 3 months (August 18-November 2019)

'For I Will Not Away' by @jack-of-crowns
His tomb; a thousand shades of moonlight, reflecting it back to her. In every facet of every manifest future, there is always his tomb. Lane has cast cascades of spells upon the inevitability of this monolith, but though the breaking waves of kargaşa she hurls upon his darklines crest with foam-flecked probability amplitudes, the receeding tides of spacetime bear less and less trace of their entanglement with each successive incantation.
"We have not yet come to the certainty, my love," she whispers frantically to the myriad refractions of all the lives they may have lived, paging through scrolls, scrolling for the one which will allow Yakışıklı Prens to live, but the only writings comprehensible to her fracturing selves are the verses of the hattats, graven in the serpentined marble of the tomb at the end of every web of tangled darklines she conjures.
"Anything could happen -," he begins, had begun.
"- when His will is obeyed," she finished, finishing, teasing the passage of the proverb out, even the somber nikah memuru permitted, permits himself a smile. They dance together beneath pomegranate trees in sharded moonlight, but the shards are barred by highset windows in coursed ashlar, set as the courses of a mortal man's life. The handsome prince is a mortal man, motes of dust adrift for brief moments in cold moonbeams, finally to alight on turbans of stone. All of his tomorrows will collapse, even those where the assassin's dagger did not pierce his heart, and none of the chaos magic Lane attempts to wed their disparate threads together can alter the singularity of this inevitable loss.
She is Jinn, she is Nightshade, the superposition of shadow upon substance; and yet no sihir can bind that which the will of the One Who Is All has not bound. Even Mistress Qeral, the Yüce Büyücü herself, knows this truth; as surely as the greatest gift given to their kind after banishment is to wield the magic that is beyond spacetime, to weave the darklines of karanlık madde into seamless retellings of Alternity. Lane ceases her castings, transiliency spell effects dissipate; her essence no longer a frothing goblet brimming with kargaşa but only a crystal chalice now, lees of tears and wine.
"For I will not away," she sighs, spurning the recollection of a tragedienne's lament from a night at the Vartovian as she gathers herselves together.
"I will not dissolve our lives in the corrosive poison of what cannot be; for what was, is now, and within me ever shall remain, my Prince." High orbitals of acceptance replace low matrices of rage, and a thousand uncertain moons resolve into one nur, full and pure, shining down upon gardens of trellissed hyacinth and jasmine; they dance together beneath pomegranate trees. Their love, human and Jinn, was a leap across vaster gulfs than any magic could ever bridge, and Lane will carry it with her through all the possible pasts and improbable futures she will ever traverse, for these moments are the only Paradise an exile such as herself will ever know.

Cosmic!
Summary:  While getting ready for her first year at Hogwarts, Kamala Khan discovers her grandma's old wand in the attic, and unlocks her own Jinn heritage.
House: Gryffindor
Blood Status: Halfblood and “half-breed”
Species: Human/Jinn hybrid
Wand: Deodar Cedar, 6 inches, Djinn hair from her great-grandmother
Broom: Cleansweep; has since upgraded to crystal air-steps
Patronus: Marbled Cat
Specialties: Conjuring, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination
Sorting:
It was a tossup between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, due to her craftiness and imagination. But Kamala's true power is daring, and her true desire is to join the heroes she idolizes.
Jinn:
The Khans are an average half-blood wizarding family—muggle father, magical mother. While getting her trunk together for her first year at Hogwarts, Kamala finds an old chest in the attic that belonged to her estranged grandmother, containing some interesting items: a Gryffindor scarf, a bangle, and an elegant wand. Her controlling mother demands she forget all of this "junk" and use the boring wand they bought from Ollivander. But Kamala sneaks the effects onto the Hogwarts Express with her. She rides the train with her muggleborn friend Bruno, and her half-blood friend Nakia, a third year Gryffindor Prefect. At the Sorting Ceremony, Kamala and Bruno go into Gryffindor and Ravenclaw  respectively.
During her first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson, Kamala discovers that her grandmother's wand can do things no other wand can. And her bangle is a Portkey. Bruno analyses the wand and discovers that its core is a Jinn's hair, from someone sharing DNA with Kamala. With Bruno's help, Kamala begins uncovering her buried family history. Kamala practices her new magic on the roofs of Hogwarts. At one Care of Magical Creatures class, she saves Fleur Delacour's irritating nice Zoe from a rabid niffler, and gains an ally. During a fight in Hogsmeade with some evil Jinn, Kamala discovers that the Portkey bangle is also functionally a time-turner, and completes a Stable Time Loop to save her half-Jinn grandmother as a child.  Also on Kamala's tail is a zealous Ministry of Magic agent named Dolly Stoher-Umbridge, Dolores's less interesting niece. The most incompetent agent in Ministry history, Umbridge 2.0 spends the entire school year failing to capture Kamala, then loses her job after nearly blowing up Hogwarts.
Mom finally comes around and supports Kamala joining the Order of the Avengers, even making her new robes. Kamala then does some missions for Mad-Eye Fury, with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau.
Patronus:
Kamala leaps and bounds through the air in the constraining urban landscape very much like a small cat hunting in the rainforest, trailing her long scarf like the marbled cat’s exceptionally long tail. She has a cat's disdain for doing as she's told, but also a feline's stealth to break the rules under her opponent's nose. She is overall harmless, yet hunted simply for standing out.
AN: I've yet to see "the Marvels," but I'm looking forward to when I do. I enjoyed "Ms. Marvel," and meant to do this entry a while ago.

Desert Spirits
Desert spirits, shrouded in the mystery of ancient sands and the searing sun, embody the essence of the dry environments they inhabit. These mysterious beings have played a significant role in the cultural and spiritual development of many desert-dwelling civilizations. They are the essence of the desert: eternal, tough, and endearingly dangerous in their enigmatic beauty. Cultural traditions portray desert spirits in a multitude of ways, frequently capturing the dichotomy of the desert itself—a place that is both peaceful and dangerous, a place of life and death. These ghosts, believed to be as old as the deserts they roam, silently witness the eternal passage of time, recorded by the shifting dunes and the relentless march of the sun across the sky.
Tumblr media
Stories of protection and direction generally emphasize the beneficial nature of desert spirits. These spirits may appear to lost or needy people in desert-like shapes, according to these tales. They could be an old wanderer giving sage advice and food, or they could be a phantom caravan that appears just in time to guide a journey to safety. According to certain traditions, these spirits watch over holy oases, making sure that these essential life-giving areas stay hidden and safe from those who would take advantage of them. Additionally, it's common knowledge that desert spirits put visitors to their territory to the test. Travelers who exhibit respect, modesty, and resourcefulness often receive rewards, sometimes subtly revealing the hidden treasures of the desert. Signs of a spirit's favor can include a sudden breeze that breaks the oppressive heat, a hint of wetness in the dry air, or the unexpected emergence of a desert flower. In these stories, the spirits of the desert serve as both instructors and protectors, teaching survival skills, reverence for the natural world, and the value of inner strength. The more menacing features of the desert ghosts, however, are also important in mythology. People often view them as symbols of the harsh and unforgiving nature of the desert. There are legends of spirits summoning simooms, or powerful sandstorms, that blind and disorient anyone who underestimates the desert's might. People frequently attribute the playful yet dangerous aspect of these spirits to mirages, those alluring illusions of water and shelter that test a traveler's will and intelligence. If people traveling through the desert ignore the lessons of respect and humility, the spirits have the ability to conjure up illusions that feed on their vulnerabilities and worries, putting them in even greater peril. According to Middle Eastern legend, the jinn are the most well-known desert spirits. These creatures, formed of smokeless fire and existing in a parallel universe where ours meets, are incredibly powerful. They are strong and erratic, capable of both extreme kindness and malice. People frequently portray the jinn as living in isolated, forlorn locations, such as wide deserts, and interacting with people in mysterious and complicated ways. Legends about Jinn depict these spirits as both tormentors and protectors, echoing the wonder and terror that the desert evokes. Native American traditions also contain rich stories involving desert spirits. These cultures frequently view the spirits as ancestor-like creatures with strong ties to the land and its past. The people hold them in high regard and deeply ingrain them in their spiritual rituals and beliefs. These spirits may manifest as plants, animals, or other natural events; each has a distinct purpose and lesson to teach us. For example, the Hopi speak of Kachina spirits, who live in the desert and other parts of nature and are essential to leading and guarding their people.

In addition to highlighting the reverence and wonder that the desert inspires, the legend of the desert spirits explains the unexplainable and instills significant cultural values. These ghosts give the desert a voice and presence that is both feared and respected, personifying it. These tales portray the desert as a living, breathing place with a will of its own and knowledge, rather than just a desolate wasteland. The timeless stories of desert spirits remind us of the delicate balance between humanity and the natural world. They serve as a reminder of the immense influence that nature has on our lives and cultures, as well as how important it is to respect and revere the natural forces. These spirits serve as guards and guides in the desert's austere beauty, where life clings tenaciously to existence. Their presence is felt in every grain of sand and wind whisper. Their tales, which depict the enduring conflict and coexistence between humans and the natural world, never cease to astound and amaze us.

The Intriguing Role of Demons in Religious History
Demons. The very word evokes a sense of mystery, conjuring images of shadowy figures lurking in dark corners, whispering malevolent secrets. But these enigmatic beings are not just figments of imagination. They have a rich and diverse history, spanning from the ancient Mesopotamian myths to the modern manifestations in pop culture. Throughout this timeline, they were an integral part of daily life, and their presence was felt in numerous cultures' religious texts, folklore, and literature. The concept of demons has evolved, yet it remains a potent symbol of the unknown and the supernatural, a topic that continues to intrigue and fascinate.
The Concept of Demons in Ancient Religions
Mesopotamian Roots
In the cradle of civilization, Mesopotamia, demons were not just a part of the spiritual beliefs. They were integral to daily life. Known as 'Udug' or 'Utukku,' these entities were not just malevolent spirits thought to bring disease and misfortune but also a constant presence in the lives of the ancient Sumerians and Akkadians. They believed these demons could be appeased or warded off through rituals and offerings, a testament to their deep-rooted faith and respect for the spiritual realm. These beliefs were not mere superstitions but a way of life, a constant reminder of the delicate balance between good and evil in their world.
Egyptian Beliefs
The Egyptians also had a complex and multifaceted relationship with these otherworldly beings, called 'demons' or 'spirits.' Some, like Apophis, the serpent god who embodied chaos, were malevolent, while others, like the household gods Bes and Taweret, played protective roles. Egyptian mythology, a rich tapestry woven with tales of these spirits, stretches its influence across the mortal and divine realms. To fully immerse in the wonder of this mythology, a visit to Encyclopedia Britannica's article on Egyptian mythology is highly recommended, as it provides a comprehensive overview of these demon beliefs.
Sumerian Influence
The Sumerians were among the first to document their beliefs in a pantheon of gods and demons. These beings were seen as intermediaries between the gods and humans, capable of benevolence and wrath. The demon Pazuzu, for example, was believed to ward off other evil spirits despite being feared himself.
Evolution of Demons in Abrahamic Religions
Judaism
In Judaism, demons (or "shedim") evolved from earlier Near Eastern beliefs. They were seen as evil forces but were not given the same prominence as in later Abrahamic faiths. The figure of Satan, initially a "challenger" or accuser in the heavenly court, began to take shape as an adversary of God.
Christianity
Christianity's concept of demons was heavily influenced by Jewish apocryphal literature and Hellenistic beliefs. Demons became fallen angels, led by Lucifer in rebellion against God. The New Testament recounts numerous instances of demonic possession and exorcism, highlighting their malevolent influence on humanity.
Islam
In Islam, demons are known as "jinn," beings created from smokeless fire. While some jinn are harmless or even benevolent, others are considered wholly evil. Iblis (Satan) is a jinn who defied God's command and was cast out of heaven. The Quran provides various references to these beings and their interactions with humans. In Islam, it's intriguing to observe that devils and demons are perceived as psychological entities rather than supernatural beings.
Historical Perceptions and Influence of Demons
Historically, demons have been perceived as evil entities wielding significant influence over human affairs. Medieval Europe saw a surge in demonology studies, often linked to witch hunts and inquisitions. These entities were blamed for everything from personal misfortune to societal upheaval.
Contrasting Views of Demons in Eastern Religions
Buddhism
In Buddhism, demons (or "Mara") represent obstacles to enlightenment. Mara, the personification of temptation and death, sought to distract Siddhartha Gautama (the future Buddha) from his path to enlightenment. Unlike their Western counterparts, these demons are not inherently evil but are part of the cosmic balance.
Hinduism
Hindu mythology offers a diverse interpretation of demons (or "asuras"). While often depicted as antagonists to the gods (devas), some asuras are revered for their wisdom and devotion. They symbolize the duality of existence, embodying both destructive and nurturing forces. For further information, consult the Encyclopedia Britannica's overview of Hindu mythology.
Impact of Demons on Religious Texts, Folklore, and Literature
Demons have left an indelible mark on religious texts and folklore. The Bible, Quran, and other sacred texts contain numerous references to these entities, shaping cultural narratives and moral lessons. In literature, demons have been a source of fascination, from Dante's "Inferno" to Goethe's "Faust," depicting their complex relationship with humanity.
The Allure of the Unknown and the Supernatural
Why do demons continue to captivate our imagination? Perhaps it's our inherent curiosity about the unknown and the supernatural. Demons embody our fears and desires, metaphorically representing our struggles within ourselves and our societies. This fascination may stem from our internal conflict between making good and bad choices, making demons a powerful symbol of our psychological battles.
In popular culture, this allure is vividly evident. Movies like "The Exorcist" and "Hereditary" explore human vulnerability and morality through demonic manifestations. Books such as The Demonologist by Andrew Pyper delve into the profound effects of confronting one's inner demons. Video games like Diablo and Doom immerse players in worlds where the battle against demonic forces mirrors the struggle to overcome personal weaknesses and moral challenges. These narratives resonate deeply because they reflect our perpetual quest to understand and navigate the complexities of our inner lives.
Understanding the history of demons in religion offers a profound window into the human condition. These entities, embodying our deepest fears and hopes, reveal much about our collective psyche and cultural evolution.
But are demons real supernatural entities? Or do they symbolize our human struggles?
