Stupid Ex
Summary: An ex of Qi Xiaotian tries to claim his and Red's new baby is his. The flaming calf. The flaming calf that looks just like Red.
“Look at her…”
“She’s so little!” Long Xiaojiao cooed, snapping a picture with visible tears beading up in her eyes. Pigsy and Tang were close to bursting into tears as well, either gripping each other or the frame of the bed that their son lay in. Qi Xiaotian smiled happily, even with exhaustion glazing over his eyes.
Their smiles and tears surrounded the little bundle Xiaotian held. A small scarlet calf slept in the soft gold blanket, nestled safe and close to the baba she had just come out of screaming barely an hour ago. According to the nurses and the doctor, she was very healthy and very adorable, both of which Xiaotian agreed with. Even better, she had inherited Red’s features, including the bull true form. (Hey, sue him, he was still adjusting to his monkey form.)
“Where’s Red?” Xiaojiao asked, breaking him out of his admiration. “I thought he would be here, all over you two.”
Xiaotian felt a snicker come out at the mention of his spouse. “He burst into happy tears when he saw her,” he said. Red had barely been able to hold his daughter, sobbing threats at the Buddha for making something so defenseless so small. “I honestly thought he would pass out with how hard he was crying, so I sent him to get some air and let his parents know Huiying’s here.”
The doors slammed open.
“Oh, speak of-” Xiaotian felt the words die down when he saw the look on his spouse’s face. Sun Wukong and Red’s parents trailed behind, exchanging concerned looks, and Xiaotian could see why.
Red looked pissed. The quiet kind, the kind that couldn’t even light his hair. The set to his jaw and the cold fire in his eyes relaxed, just a little, when they met eyes. So Xiaotian was pretty sure he wasn’t pissed at him.
“Oh, look at her!” Sun Wukong was there, forcing Xiaotian to look away from Red. “Mind if I hold her, kid?”
“Sure!” Xiaotian passed Huiying over. His daughter made a little noise, but settled in the king’s arms easily. “Be careful around Red, we don’t him to pass out from all the tears.”
“Nah, DBK’s the guy you wanna be concerned around,” Wukong chuckled, flashing a grin at his former sworn brother. “Right, bud?”
DBK snorted about how he was a mighty demon king, he didn’t cry over a baby, only for him to see Huiying and have tears bead up. The scene of his father-in-law, the mighty Demon Bull King, crying over his daughter should’ve delighted Xiaotian. It did, but Red’s anger burned at the back of his mind. A warm hand wrapped around his, and he looked away from Iron Fan cooing over Huiying’s little hooves up at Red.
His spouse met his eyes.
“I’ll tell you later,” he said, too quietly for anyone else to hear them. “Once we’re home.”
“...Okay.”
-_-
Red didn’t explain when they got home. At least, not immediately.
Three days passed. To be fair, they were an extremely busy three days, with adjusting to having the actual baby home, greeting guests, and planning Huiying’s 100th day celebration. His family were all great help, but it was still an adjustment. Xiaotian had nearly put Red’s weird expression out of his mind until the fourth afternoon, when he was feeding Huiying. His spouse settled across from him.
“Hey, what’s for lunch?” Xiaotian asked, coming to a pause when he looked up. Red had that same cold fury in his eyes. “What’s wrong?”
“So, I must ask…do you know of a man named Chen Zixin?”
Xiaotian blinked at the random question. “Zixin? The name sounds familiar, yeah, but…” Something tugged at his mind at it. The name sounded familiar, and Xiaotian’s gut twisted unpleasantly. “I think he’s an ex of mine?”
Red nodded. “I figured.” He took in a deep breath. “Now, I need to let you know, I am not accusing you of doing anything. I am not upset at you.”
Something cold shot down his spine. “What…what happened?”
Red pulled out his phone. “He called me while I was trying to call my parents. He texted me when he couldn’t get in touch with me. I did block his number, but I saved the texts in case.” Xiaotian exchanged Huiying, still contently sucking on her bottle, for Red’s phone. He had already pulled up the screenshots.
Unknown Number: Hey, you're Red, right? Married to Qi Xiaotian?
Me: Do you care to explain why you are trying to communicate with me? I am very busy today.
Unknown Number: Okay, easy, dude. My name is Chen Zixin and I'm an ex of Xiaotian's.
Me: I do not see the point.
Unknown Number: I hate to drop this on you, but Xiaotian and I got back into contact nearly a year ago. I swear, I didn't know he was with someone. But I need to tell you that there's a good chance that his baby's mine.
The moment he read the last line, his stomach dropped.
"Red, I swear, I didn't-"
Warm lips pressed against his forehead. "I know you didn't." Red glanced down at his phone and barely managed a chuckle. "He's so stupid. I asked him what his proof was. Go to my files, I labeled the proof as Idiot."
Xiaotian did, barely resisting a snicker at the file name. What popped up were the screenshots that Red had shown him and more screenshots. He felt a brow raise as he looked the other screenshots over. It looked like a few weeks' worth of talking between Zixin and "him." It was all steamy sex talk, including nudes. At the first one, conveniently cut off under his face, Xiaotian felt himself pause, connecting the dots.
"He doesn't know you changed your number, for one thing," Red chuckled, sounding a bit happier. His tone turned sweet and adoring as he looked down at Huiying. "And he doesn't know Baba got top surgery before we were blessed with you, yes, he doesn't know..."
Xiaotian chuckled. "Plus, I am not that skinny." He paused as a thought occurred to him. "Hey, should we tell whoever's picture this is that he's using their picture?"
Red chuckled a little bit harder, sitting down next to him. "No need. I reverse-Googled it. It's an art model picture, and it’s literally the first image that pops up when you Google “art model”."
"Oh, great!" Well, that left one other thing. "What should we do about Zixin, though?" The fact that an ex he barely remembered had popped out of the woodwork to try and claim paternity of his daughter was... worrying. “Did you tell him off or something?”
"Don't worry." Red grinned like a cat who had gotten the cream. "I told him that he was an idiot, and since our wonderful daughter has not inherited your lovely features-"
"Stop it."
"That he was an idiot, that his accusation alone showed that he had no knowledge of who you were as a person, and I pray that he never passed down his genes if he ever actually had a child."
"...Wow." Scam callers alone never bothered them again once Red got on the phone, so Xiaotian's concern was washed away by a wave of relief. "So, since that's dealt with, what's for lunch?"
"I have that handled."
-_-
The next week or two were quiet. Qi Xiaotian assumed that Zixin had gotten the hint and had decided to leave his weird quest to claim Huiying as his child behind. Good for him. Xiaotian was more focused on his family.
Like today!
Pigsy had finally gotten the money and permission to extend the noodle shop. It was now bigger and better but still affordable and delicious. People were gathered around, watching as Pigsy pulled out big scissors. Xiaotian, Tang, and Xiaojiao stood on the side, with Tang beaming and Xiaojiao snapping a hundred photos. Xiaotian felt his chest squeeze tight with pride as Pigsy cut the red ribbon.
Or maybe that was Huiying, rubbing her cheek against his chest from where she was nestled in her sling.
It was probably both.
Yeah, it was both.
As people trickled in, Tang calling dibs on getting the first bowl, Xiaotian found himself next to his Dadsy, hugging him tight. "Oh, I am so proud of you!"
Pigsy patted his back. "Couldn't have done it without you, kid," he said into his shoulder. "You've been a massive help with everything."
"I don't feel like I was," Xiaotian grumbled as he pulled away. "I barely got in a week of helping the construction." The moment Pigsy learned he was expecting, Xiaotian was banned from helping. All he could do from there was help Pigsy make sure that everything legal was squared away, do some marketing on social media, and taste-test Pigsy’s new dishes.
Pigsy sighed, reaching up and patting his head. "You were there for me, son. That's more help than I'll ever need. Plus," His tone turned even more adoring as he reached out, stroking Huiying's little cheek. She made a little noise at the affectionate gesture, and Xiaotian felt his heart melt. "I wanted things to be ready so my granddaughter has something to be proud of!"
Xiaotian chuckled at Huiying's little snort. "Oh, yeah. I can't wait for her to be old enough to help out-"
"MONKIE KID!"
"Oh great." The peace couldn't last this long, could it? Red wasn't even here yet to provide commentary. Xiaotian sighed and turned to the twin demons, striking a pose. Was it just him, or did they look pissed? "What do you two want?"
"We finally have a way to defeat you!" Yin bellowed. "Although I expected better of you!"
"Yeah!" Jin said, and yeah, that was a glare. "Who knew the Monkie Kid was a filthy cheater?"
Wait, what. "I'm not a cheater."
"That's not what this fine gent says!" They moved, revealing a guy. "Remember him?"
Xiaotian squinted. The guy looked familiar, he guessed? He looked like a hundred other guys he saw on the street. "Not really?" Yin, Jin, and the guy all blinked. He glanced at Pigsy, who was also squinting. "Pigsy, do you know him?"
"I...think?"
"Oh, come on, enough of this bullshit!" The guy yelled. "You know me! I'm the father-" Wait. Waaaait. “I can’t believe you’re still lying!”
"You're Zixin?"
The guy paused, blinking. Yin and Jin looked a little nervous, jumping when there was a yell of "YES!" The guy moved forward, but one of the twins grabbed his arm. "And I know that baby's mine, you can't deny it."
"My dude," Xiaotian felt a snicker rise up. "My dude, I barely remember you. Why would I fuck some guy I barely remembered?"
"I don't know! You're probably lying." The guy gestured to Yin and Jin. "But these fine blokes are gonna help me take back my baby!"
The demon twins blinked before exchanging looks.
"Oh, yeah."
"Right!"
Xiaotian blinked, and then, instead of standing on the sidewalk, he stood on a stage. Several people, including Pigsy, Tang, and Xiaojiao, sat in the stands. A big, flashing sign lit up, spelling out WHO'S THE BABY DADDY in neon.
Xiaotian sighed, glancing over at his family. Pigsy had pulled out his phone while Xiaojiao was snickering and recording. Tang just looked amused. Good. He wanted to save this. Maybe he could get some videos from the cameras perched everywhere?
"So!" Yin and Jin appeared, both dressed in suits and ignoring Zixin throwing up in the background. "We have a contested custody battle here!"
"This fine gentleman claims that the Monkie Kid's baby is his!"
"And the Monkie Kid's husband..."
"Isn't here," Xiaotian said before the spotlight could move. "And, I would like to make a point before you three humiliate each other even further." Yin and Jin blinked again. Xiaotian didn’t wait for the response. “My baby,” he said. "You mean this baby?"
Xiaotian couldn't help the smirk that rose up when he revealed Huiying's little face, and Yin and Jin's faces dropped. "This baby," he repeated, holding her up for the cameras to see. Several coos and gasps of adoration filled the stadium- before Huiying sneezed. As people screamed in shock at the flames, Xiaotian stared down Yin, Jin, and Zixin. "This baby," he said. "You're claiming that this baby isn't Red Son's?"
Red snorted, looming over them. All three of them jolted, meaning none of them had seen Red stalk through the audience and now loom, Xiaotian's inner sex kitten purring at the beast.
That was his husband.
That was the only possible father of this and any future children.
"Heyyy Red Son!"
"Look, we just wanted to make sure-"
"YOU STOLE MY-"
Yeah, definitely the only father.

Chili Brownies
A/N: Thank you guys for liking the first chapter. In this chapter I wanted to really write some angst because I need some practice.
Chapter 1
Chapter 2:
A beat can keep you steady.
That’s what Okoye relies on throughout her life. When she lost both her parents in a car accident. Her beat changed, she focused on making sure her baby sister, Ayo was okay through the transition between the funeral and living with their strict uncle. Having a beat kept Okoye steady.
She was so excited, in a small room back of the chapel. Her heart was beating pretty fast, Okoye was used to it. She used to track and field during her high school and college years that pattern was like a second home to her. Okoye couldn’t stop smiling, Ayo began to worry that she might split her face.
“That can’t happen right?” Okoye asked as she touched the lace of her sheath-shaped dress. Everything had to be perfect after all, Okoye already planned out how her scrapbook would look, with W’kabi and her. Which pictures she would use in order to tell a fairytale-like story to their children.
Ayo sighed as she squated her sister’s hands away from her dress, “Yes,it’s runs in the family y’know.”
“You’re not funny sister,” Okoye said as she gazed into the mirror once more. Ayo couldn’t help but teased her sister on her special day. She was the youngest, sue her. Ayo had some reservations about W’kabi. To her, Okoye could do better, but she knew she will think that her sister could do better. Okoye was always the strong and reliable one when Ayo was in her rebellious phase. Always covering her when she went out and partied instead of being at a special event their uncle wanted them to be.
She was the first person she came out to, and Ayo was ready for the disgust and being rebuked by her sister. Only to find out how wrong she underestimated her sister.
“Mama and Baba would be proud,”Ayo said to her.
Okoye’s eyes soften, “Really?”
“Yes, afterall it’s sunny day for a wedding,”Ayo smiled at her as clasped her hand with her sister’s as they walked out of small room.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE’S GONE!” Their uncle roared out as he pointed one of his narrow fingers at W’kabi’s father. The men were shouting at one other in the arbor.
“He’s gone what else do you want me to say?” His father shouted right back. He wasn't sure where he went, but he knew his son screwed up big time, forcing his father once again to clean up his messes.
Their uncle’s lips screwed up like he ate a bitter lemon, “How can there be a wedding if there's no groom? Are you telling me, he just ran off?"
“What do you mean he’s gone?” Okoye asked causing the chaos to stop. Everyone looked anguished at Okoye. Her heartbeat was speeding up once again, but like before. Not like when she run or the anxious feeling she had when she got her dream job. The beat was different, it was dread. She handled her sister's hand tightly.
“Okoye,”T’Challa spoke first. Her cousin was the one who set them up during the time Okoye should have put more focus on her studies, “I don’t think he’s coming back.”
Okoye didn’t know what feeling she should act on; one wants to sucker punch her ex. W’kabi left her feeling humiliated and ashamed. The woman couldn’t look in her uncle’s eyes for a few weeks before she randomly decided to quit being a lawyer and run a bake shop. She knew her uncle thought Okoye had lost her mind. But the other feeling the small part of her desperately wanted to know why. Why did you run away like that? Was I not go enough for you? Why didn’t you tell me, instead of running away? As Okoye was spiraling seeing her ex, Aneka glared at the man, “I’m surprised you came back. I thought cowards tend to stay hidden.”
“Aneka,” W’kabi greeted the man and gave a stiff smile at the woman. Aneka crossed her arms, he’s still weak as ever.
The man looked at Okoye, “I’m here to make amends.”
Aneka scoffed, “Well, you can take your little amends and shov-”
Okoye place her hand on Aneka’s shoulder, “I can handle it.”
Aneka looked at her. She knew Okoye can handle herself that’s not what doubt, the woman could help but be a little protective of her. After all who’s protecting her when she’s protecting everyone else? Aneka thought as quickly as the question arrived she remember the answer giving a huff, Attuma.
“Fine, I’ll take my thirty minute break,” Aneka exclaimed as she gave W’Kabi adeathly stare, “And only thirty minutes.”
With that the woman walked out of the small store. Leaving Okoye with W’Kabi; the baker knew she needed to know the reason why. Afterall these years, why come back.
“So, start.”
A/N: Let me know your thoughts because I really want to know how was the angst.

Reasons why "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" is actually better than the original "Space Jam"?
This is going to sound very biased to whoever's reading this and that's mostly because it is so here we go:
1) Gags and jokes were better executed. Bugs' crossdressing, the casino scenes, that scene where the spy car is plummeting ("Sell my Warner Bros shares, I got an inside tip that Bugs Bunny is about to die!"- my favourite joke besides the several moments between Bugs and Daffy just goofing off), the space scene!. There were A LOT of moments that genuinely made me laugh in this movie whereas Space Jam.... had one scene that made me laugh (that scene where Michael gets pulled into Tune World and Daffy's checking to make sure he's the real deal. That's it).
One joke that I will forever loathe is that Porky "I think I wet myself" line. That was just piss poor, pun unintended.
2) Bugs and Daffy just absolutely MADE this movie. My boys were just top tier. Especially when they were facing off against Elmer and then later Marvin. One particular scene that stood out to me was that campfire scene. It had emotion to it, which was something rather rare to find in Looney Tunes, Daffy just openly expressing his frustration and sad acceptance that Bugs will just always be No. 1 no matter how hard Daffy works to surpass him and Bugs frowning either from hurt confusion by Daffy's words or concern for Daffy is just- AHHH it's perfect for a small little scene, an opportunity for the audience to have more sympathy for Daffy.
(This movie and Duck Dodgers was what actually skyrocketed my love for Daffy Duck because I didn't see his shorts often when I was little. I mainly saw only Bugs Bunny shorts, Road Runner shorts and (ironicallly) Pepe Le Pew shorts.)
And their dynamic. Lots of back and forths bantering that I love to see from duos. These two are just absolute chaos gremlins together that has an understanding of how the other works. I just like duos and trios like that. And Bugs and Daffy were just amazing like that.
There wasn't a lot of to write home about the character interactions and dynamics in Space Jam for me. I like the Monstars interactions with the Tunes and their boss (I know his name ends in 'hammer' and the beginning sounds like Schwartz but you know who I'm talking about)
Personal Fun Fact from my childhood: My first introduction (from what my ma told me) to Daffy Duck was actually Duck Dodgers. The next time I saw him again was in Baby Looney Tunes and let me tell you I was hella confused as to why they were calling Duck Dodgers "Daffy" the whole time (I know Daffy's name is in the intro but I was 4 and could barely read, sue me.
Well that's my biased reasons for why Back in Action is better than Space Jam ^_^
For those who do like both SJs or one or the other, I'm not saying your movies are absolutely awful and downright garbage. Space Jam is just not my cup of hot chocolate, baba. That's it.

The witcher 2 thoughts
(spoilers under the cut)
So i finished the witcher 2 yesterday and i am a the point where i can can say that i generally liked it, there were some things that threw me off but i will probably explain them better after a while, so for now I made a list.
(Premise i have not read the books nor i have played the game, what lore i know i have read through internet and YouTube)
Things that i liked in no precise order:
Jaskier and Yennefer
Just every scene with Jaskier and Yennefer
The first appearence of our favourite bard, what an icon
Tissaia and her relationship with Triss and Yen- her first scene broke my heart
Ciri and Geralt relationship
Francesca and Fringilla relationship (till it lasted)
Fringilla new hair
Istredd, as an aspiring archaeologist I really vibe with him
Geralt and Vizemir
The bath scene in Aretuza, we like to see the girls bonding
Ciri's dresses, seriously this girl has the best wardrobe in the whole series
The stuffed unicorn allusion
The dwarves
The first meeting between Geralt and Yennefer which was so soft and do gentle, It Just, ugh
Fringilla killing a bunch of assholes
The Happy family going off at the end, with a lot of issue still to resolve but the hope that something good May come from it
What i didn't like
The whole baba yaga plot, which i know it's the main baddy of the season but i don't know,it just feels episodic ? Probably it's because the first books are short stories, but It really feel like i watched one long episode instead of a whole season, I don't know if i make sense
Jaskier hair.
The costumes, i never really liked them, even in season one, but they feel really costumy, especially Yennefer's.
Like really, what the hell was the thing she was wearing during the bath scene ( i must admit the tunics are an improvement to the first season's dress though, i actually liked the execution one)
Stregabor. Not a plot choice or a critique, i Just really hate the guy and would like to watch him burn
The eskel plot, as I said i knew a little about the saga, so i was excited to see him and that, just wasn't what i was expecting (also he was cute, i am sad when cute people die, sue me)
Vilgeforz, from which i was expecting something in this season instead of him just looking hot and some vague hints from the rience plot
And that's It for now, i have more things but they will probably come later

The best songs of the 1970s
“What started out as a joke has turned into a disaster!” - Stu Nahan, Rocky IV
So my employment has me in my car a lot, which means I’m listening to the radio a lot. If I’m not listening to a podcast or baseball game through my phone I also have SiriusXM, which of course has a plethora of musical options. I gravitate to the 70s and 80s channels because, well, of course I do.
Something else about me you may or may not know is that I love ranking things. I have a Note on my phone I’m regularly accessing that is nothing but different types of rankings.
Thus, you can imagine my excitement when the 70s on 7 station announced a listener-voted Top 700 Songs of the 70s countdown over Labor Day weekend. It was a fun listen. They went through it twice over the four day weekend, and I was laboring much so I heard much.
It prompted me to think: What are my top seventy songs of the 70s? Surely I wasn’t going to come up with a top 700. After all, some in that list were real stinkers. But seventy? No problem. And indeed, it wasn’t hard to come up with that many songs. The hard part was narrowing it down. And once I did, there were still so many songs on my list I had enough for more lists, so I expanded it to 140, then 210, and... well...
I’m about to give you the authoritative list of the 350 best songs of the 1970s. I originally put out a Top 70 list on Facebook a few weeks ago. Much that of that list remains the same, with a few changes. But now there is much more. I’ve divided these into five “volumes” of seventy songs. Pregnant Lisa mini fic part 30 (Klee's thoughts)
At home, Klee runs for her bedroom and the door shutting loudly says Lisa will not be welcomed.
She says, putting the keys on the bowl and heading to the kitchen.
She opens the fridge unseeing, head in Klee's angry and sad expression.
She feels the tears again, frustrated and sad. She reminds herself Klee's upstairs and she shouldn't let herself start to cry because once she starts, she isn't sure when she will manage to stop.
(。•́︿•̀。)(。•́︿•̀。)
Her bedroom is empty and seems to be bigger than normal. In her desk Mama and mommy photo is displayed.
Klee holds the frame and looks at the image, to her mama smile and her mommy laugh.
She can't believe mama isn't coming home anymore. Can't believe now she will not see Mama how much she wants to.
It's been so long since she spent time with mama, since it was only the two of them. Mama has been working so much, she is always out of the home.
Felipe says after his dad leaved the house, he almost never sees his dad. Klee can remember all the talks Felipe had with her, complaining about lost times together with his dad.
Klee doesn't want it. Klee wants to spend time with her mama as they used to do when Klee was littler.
She hufs and glares the photo. Mama is leaving her and mommie is a liar.
Mommie said sue could see Mama any time, she just needed to ask mommie. Klee asked her and mommie said no.
She throws herself on the bed, face on the warm mattress.
She feels her eyes sting and she knows she will cry soon. Her little arms hugs her rabbit pillow and she curls around it.
Klee doesn't understand what is happening. Why mama and mommie has to take some time apart? Mommie said it wasn't Klee's fault but what else could be? Mama isn't the same with her for a long while now and Klee can only think it's because she did something wrong.
She frows, tears dripping on her face.
Could it be that mommie was lying to her about it too? Maybe mama is really angry at Klee and mommie don't want to say it to her.
She pouts, sobbing quietly.
Klee sometimes is a had girl. Sometimes Klee doesn't listen to mama orders, sometimes Klee steals the desert before lunch or dinner and mama always says Klee should save her tummy to lunch and dinner.
Her little fist cleans her tears and she sniffs. If this is why mama is angry at her, then Klee needs to ask forgiveness, like Baba use to say to Klee. If Klee hurt someone or did something had, Klee needs to ask for forgiveness.
She sits on the bed and sniffles again.
But mommie said Klee couldn't see Mama today...But Klee is sure if she doesn't go to see Mama now, mama will never want to see her again, never forgive her.
Klee rises from her bed and looks at her photo with mommie and mama and takes a shuddering breath.
Klee is going to fix everything! Mama is going to come back to home and they will be a happy family again. She will not be like Felipe and his dads.
She takes the small strap bag her grandma gave her. She always put her important things there, like some coins mommie give her, her drawing notebook and some snacks auntie baba gives her.
She is reaching for the door handle and then stops, running to her bed and getting Dodoko, her smaller plushie rabbit. She feels like this mission will require a friend.
K: " We are bringing back mama home, Dodoko. This will be our mission!"
She puffs her little chest and with the plushie against her side she runs until her door. She opens it slowly and tip toes the stairs.
She can hear mommie in the kitchen, she is probably doing Klee's dinner. Her stomach rumbles a little. The ice cream she took didn't got her belly full.
She looks to the corridor that takes to the kitchen and sighs quietly. She will come back before dinner and with mama at her side.
She smiles, mommie will be happy when she sees mama back, she is sure of it.
Remember herself of her apologie, Klee hurries to the front door. She opens it slowly, minding the creaking it always makes and closes it even more slowly.
Her heart thuds on her small chest. It's the first time she will get out alone. She is always with mommie or baba or grandma. She never goes outside alone.
She holds Dodoko tight and looks at the streets.
She has to go to grandma house, she has to apologize to mama.
Klee takes a deep breath and takes a step forward.
Klee is a knight, a big girl and she will carry out her mission just like mama does in her work.
K: " wait for me, mama.Kle is coming."
She takes off, running through the streets, sky orange with the setting sun.
...to be continued

YASMIN DOUGLAS—
IG info/Bio: @/imyasmin_d | 11.6k followers | hello & ahlan 🎶
23-24 years old depending on her birthday (I’m thinking too much about timelines since i know some shows aren’t live and if they filmed it prior & it’s just being shown to us now...then there’s the boat party that comes in after, you get what I’m saying right? No? Okay)
Moroccan heritage
she was born in fes along with her baba
Father works in the carpet & rug manufacturing industry and worked in his father’s business from the young age of 16
her mother is from Essaouira & has often stated that she couldn’t stand Yasmin’s father the first time they met but she wouldn’t want to travel through this life with anyone else
Her father and mother came from two different lifestyles. All he knew how to do was hard work yet he had a sarcastic but playful side to him whereas her mom came from a family that was more financially stable & she was free to do whatever! mainly hanging at the beach with her friends without a care in the world, she was privileged and a little uppity while her father’s life seemed to be planned out from the day of his birth
Yet they still fell in love and decided to leave Morocco months after they got married at 21 & 24 & not too long after they had yas they left for England
She was raised in Kent, England
The Atmosphere led to her boho lifestyle...being exposed to castles, gardens, and underground tunnels from time to time shaped her into what she felt she was meant to be. She loved her second home
they call her “yazzy”
Parents follow islam...Which Yasmin respects but is not strongly devoted to
Can speak & write in Arabic but seems to do better in writing
Her paternal grandparents fault her parents for not teaching her to excel at both & feel that if they weren’t in such a rush to leave home she would speak Arabic better
Which made Yasmin feel like shit. Her paternal grandparents were strict on keeping their customs alive whereas her maternal grandparents were carefree as long as they got to see their granddaughter alive & well that was good enough for them
Idk maybe a only child or has a older brother? I don’t feel like she comes from a big family sibling wise
her mother made her a stuffed purple sheep that she took everywhere with her as a kid & continues to keep close to her. Y’all had imaginary friends? Well Yasmin had a real friend she could see & squeeze the life out that didn’t require talking and hugging the air, but that’s fine do u
100% collects beanie babies until this day but lil yamb is the number one princess in her household
As her significant other you have to be okay with lil yamb sleeping in between y’all that’s just the way it is
These stuffed babies are her comfort when no else can be
she’s a singer/songwriter. Went to uni for it & finished a semester early
Went through multiple hell experiences when it came to interning & temping while still in school & after
Let’s just say she wasn’t down to f*ck her way to the top
this made her anxiety act up, these people made her feel like she wouldn’t be good enough to show the world her craft & it’s didn’t have to be the world, just someone who would listen
But she couldn’t give up, there was nothing else she saw herself doing. She knew this is what she was meant to do but she couldn’t lie and say that her insecurities didn’t get the best of her most days
Although the cons seemed to out way the Pros some days, she kept at it & found herself a solid team that knew what she was about and understood her soul
Was definitely the student who loved all her English classes & when she spoke up everyone found it shocking since she preferred to just write everything out rather than “participate in group discussions”
I feel like her singing voice sounds similar to Jessica mauboy’s (if you don’t know who that is & you’re a fan of r&b/pop check her out or if you’re just curious that works too lol)
Knows her music notes like the back of her hand, duh!
Fav color is royal blue, especially on her eyelids & nails
Occasionally sleeps in rollers to keep her hair wavy
Needs her space when it comes to disagreements, they stress her out & she panics a bit when things go wrong so she feels like she needs to leave the situation rather than talk it out right then and there
She’ll talk when she’s ready, she just needs someone that’s a little patient with her that’s all
Words of affirmation is her love language? When she figures out how to balance her love life with her work life that is. When she’s feeling confident she’s smooth with words but when she needs to show you how much you mean to her & she really takes the time to think it out & feel her emotions, she’s writing you a song or you’re the inspiration to it or a poem, leaving you little love notes on blue post-it’s around the house, will write 50 reasons why she loves you on Valentine’s Day, and will say so when it’s just the two of you in your own comfort
Isn’t too crazy about public displays of affection but will deff hold your hand if that’s something you or she wanted in that moment
I think she’s fluid
Hasn’t been in many relationships. Sure she goes on tour every other year and gets to meet many people but they’re not solid relationships, they’re hookups and she hasn’t done many of those either
Had maybe one or two solid relationships: a androgynous woman that uses she/they pronouns & was in a rock band & a cis male she met at a tattoo parlor his step-brother owned (he kinda favored seb but we’re not going to speak on that)
I believe she wants to get married someday but isn’t so keen on the idea of kids. The furthest she’ll go is adopting a couple of animals. She’ll be a pet mom! I feel like she’ll be anxious looking after the life of a human being when it’s extremely hard to do so not only for herself and the love of her life & you want to add kids to the mix?! Fucking hell! but that could change? Who knows what life can throw at u
Has a hedgehog named Sonia that she drops off at her parents for their weekly sleepovers
Loves lace—mostly bralettes & crotchet clothing
I see her as a corduroy girl too. She has at least some rusty brown low-rise corduroy pants or/and a jacket
owns a crotchet kit, she’s bloody good at it too
Loved pink & purple (still likes them, they’re her 2nd & 3rd fav colors) so much as a kid that she tried to dye her hair half & half while her parents went out on their date night...it was also the weekend before school pictures :)
Says she got her inspiration from starfire & raven. She was only 13 at the time & had braces. Her father approved saying she’s a kid and she should be allowed to express herself. He only said that because his own parents barely let him & his brothers have their own fun
Her mother thought it was atrocious and did her best to get it out with the help of her other hair stylists friends (her mother worked in plenty of beauty shops once she got to England, until she decided to convert their basement into her own shop) who she invited over to see what her daughter had done but when you use certain permanent dyes...
It didn’t completely damage yasmin’s hair plus it was just hair, Yasmin didn’t see the big deal. She thought she looked splendid
Anyway, massive fan of ballroom dancing
She’s got a great ear to begin with so it was extremely fun twirling around while wearing pretty ballroom gowns
Took boring etiquette classes as a form of punishment? After the whole teen Titans inspiration thing “went wrong”
Enjoys western films
yes she owns a cowgirl hat & some boots too so sue her, she likes what she likes
Knows how to lasso but hates doing it to animals but she’ll do it to you :) (*gags* lmao why???)
Also loves visiting western towns & learning some history or at least experiencing what it was like
Type of significant other that will do her best to persuade you to stay in a treehouse airbnb, a cabin, the fucking Idaho potato, or camping out in her Volkswagen van in the middle of nowhere!
Has faux cow rugs, wicker baskets, wicker chairs in her flat, hangs some plants in glass jars & bottles all over her house
Her flat is very bright & vibrant: white, mocha brown, tan, yellows, & pastel purple
When it comes to decision making, she’ll make them pretty quick but only if it comes to choosing desserts
nobody is touching her mom’s meskouta orange cake WITH syrup
the dessert eater that always picks the one that has a surprise inside, meaning it has to ooze out with SOMETHING to make it 10x more satisfying
Leaning towards Buddhism, had studied some of their beliefs and found it resonates with her spirit
Fan of neon lights, probably has a few neon signs in her flat preferably on her brick wall in the loo, “to give u comfort as you go!” “that...actually makes sense.” Tai commented as he rubbed his chin coming to terms with yasmin’s reply. While Iona scowls, “no, no it doesn’t. I feel as if it’s an invasion of my bits!” “...Sorry you feel that way.”
tai & ciaran are automatically deemed as her brothers since she came into the villa with them. She had time to connect with them unlike anyone else. It was just the way the stars wrote their story and it showed outside of the villa too. they often crash at her place all the time when they’re in town & vacation all the time together when their schedules line up + it never feels like she’s third wheeling
“TaiTower” & “BB-Ci” are their names in her phone, Tai picked his own name while the “bb” stands for “best buds” for ciaran —which is a joke since he drunkly called himself so + he loves everyone when he’s drunk
You can always count on her to belt the lyrics to a Chaka Khan, TLC, or paula abdul joint when she’s drunk lol
As for the girls? She’s close with miki 😒 they just seem to be on the same wavelength when it comes to the pressure of the media since they have some sort of fame which increased with them being on the Telly. They bond over that & from there they’ve built a solid friendship
She could also be friends with AJ too (if you didn’t get swiped from her that is lmao!) they’re sorta opposites with aj being high energy/active while Yasmin is more mellow & “mysterious” but seem to connect in different ways: their sexual indentities, insecurities/anxieties, having something to be passionate about but at the same time maybe not? She might lean towards elladine or Genevieve if she had to make a choice?
Aquarius sun + cancer moon
so she’s still 23 y’all, I got it! I can’t do math sorry
“Freddie Mercury was probably my dad in my past life.”
Can play the banjo, guitar, & oud
Participates in hot yoga weekly
If she’s not with mc in the end and continues dating around if anyone from season two: LUCAS, Kassam, Gary, Rocco, maybe Blake? I originally thought Elisa but she’s probably too much for yas let’s be honest here lol they’d be better off as friends
Omg I forgot marisol! Imagine that?! Whew!!!
Season three: maybe Lily? But what if? Me being the slightly messy bitch that I am? Something happening with her & AJ. Now that?! Would be some chaotic shit “from the outside looks of it” name the irrelevant person behind the quote...now!
I’d like to see her interact with allerga but there could be something with her & cherry. I’m thinking cherry, Yasmin, & priya would bond well but we’re not here to talk about that
Getting rid of the physical aspect I genuinely think she’d do well with marisol, Lucas, or kassam. They’d mesh well I think in a relationship
She’s a body shimmer girl for sure!
Loves silk or satin robes
she’s a shortie, 5’2 to 5’5
Is learning Spanish
Loves arcade games, come see her in pinball & Pac-Man!
Quarantine life did not change her lifestyle much, but it did slightly mess with her mental health :/
loves the fall time, feels like she can slow down some and really spend time with family and friends
I feel like she has one best friend outside of the villa & that’s good enough for her!
They met their first year in uni & been close ever since
She doesn’t speak to the temporary friends she grew up with anymore & is often confused why they feel the need to keep up with her in the media which added more annoying worries to her heart but whatever right? Keep your eyes on the horizon
celebs she finds/found attractive: Aaliyah—especially when she played in queen of the damned, Kehlani, Zazie Beetz, Fivel & Booboo Stewart, Lakeith stanfield, Leah Lewis, Sofia Carson, Ryan gosling, & Nick Jonas
She listens to: jade bird, Yebba, Elli Ingram, Wafia, Zeina, Summer walker, Tanerèlle, Mariah the scientist, Teyana Taylor, Tove Lo, lady Gaga, Ra Ra Riot, Empire of the sun, & smallpools
Anthem? Diana Gordon — Rollin’

So I have recently watched Over The Moon and have fallen utterly in love with it and as I am listening to the sountrack, a thought occurs to me
Sanders Sides Over The Moon AU
So here we go! A Sanders Sides AU no one asked for and is created from a pure stream of consciousness! (Fair warning, there are spoilers! So if you haven't seen the movie then go do it before reading this post!)
Logan as Fei Fei. You saw this coming, don't lie. I can easily imagine Logan being completely enamored by the ancient myths of the moon while still being an absolute genius to the point he can do rocket science at 14yo (Also him believing in the myths in an attempt to hold onto his dad is peak angst material)
Patton as Mama because this man will 10/10 do anything to preserve that sparkle in his sons' eyes and if that means reciting the tale Chang'e and Hou'yi for the rest of his life then goddammit he will do it
Janus as Baba. Yes I am aware I am Moceit trash. Doesn't last long though 'cause Patton d i e s. Also Baba in the movie just gives me those Janus vibes ya know? Cool and serious on the outside but is a complete dork once you get to know him
Roman as Chang'e. Look me in the eyes and tell me that Roman would not make himself into a lunar popstar, get into a ping-pong tournament with an 8yo, and cry dramatically about his long lost love.
Virgil as Hou'yi. Yes, I also know I'm Prinxiety trash sue me. Besides, it's fun reimagining that little animation illustrating the tale of Chang'e and Hou'yi on Mama's scarf
Ms. Zhong is Thomas. He's just trying his best to connect with Logan and nothing seems to be working, but he's nothing if not patient
Remus as Chin because he's a lovable little shit who likes pretending to be an octopus, rams himself into walls in an attempt to walk through them, is scarily good at ping-pong, and absolutely adores his big brother Logan and would follow him to the ends of the earth (Which he did, quite literally)
Remy and Emile will also be in here but idk whether to make one of them Gobi or to make them Jade Rabbit and Bungee. I'm very torn.
The rest of the family or the Lunettes can be Thomas' friends, though I'm leaning towards Thomas' friends being his family in this AU
Either that or Joan and Talyn can be Jade Rabbit and Bungee, I'm not opposed to either option
So that's about it! I might add more if I like this AU enough but it was a fun idea to entertain ^^

Deaged Jaybird anyone?
Well, judging from ao3 and tumblr, I think the answer to that question is ‘everyone and amazingly so,’ but I might as well throw my hat into the ring, thank you <3
I thought this was gonna be sweet and funny. It didn’t exactly turn out that way.
rewind, fast forward, stop Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply - Childhood Trauma, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Implied/Referenced Underage Prostitution, Temporary Character Death, Angst Relationships: Jason Todd & Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake & Jason Todd, Dick Grayson & Jason Todd Characters: Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Duke Thomas, Cassandra Cain, Alfred Pennyworth Additional Tags: Age Regression/De-Aging, De-Aged Jason Todd, Family Issues, Family Feels, Loss of Trust, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Hurt with Temporary Comfort, Jason Todd Needs A Hug, The Batfamily Needs Therapy, Bittersweet, Unreliable Narrator
“If he says the words unstable molecules one more time, I’m going to hit something,” Dick muttered.
“Jason’s been gone for two hours, and you’re already trying to replace him?” Tim asked. It was a weak joke, and Dick didn’t laugh.
Nygma and Crane were still arguing at metaphorical gunpoint (i.e., genuine sword end), bent over the makeshift crib.
“I didn’t expect this to happen, either! What’s the point of posing riddles if he’s a baby?”
“Well you still fucked up and now we’re here, basically hostages—”
Bruce held up a hand. Everyone fell silent.
“So. His age will change several times?”
“Yes.”
“You cannot predict the intervals.”
“No.”
“What does he remember?”
“I don’t know. We should ask him…”
“…when he reaches an age where he can speak, yes. Will this stop once he reaches the age he’s supposed to be?”
“I don’t—”
“Then we will find out. Nygma, you have 24 hours to fix this.” He turned and looked at Dick. “Call reinforcements and start the lab work.”
Dick nodded, but whatever he was going to ask wasn’t going to be heard because Jason chose that moment to start wailing.
Everyone froze. Despite all the arguing, the fact that they know had to care for a baby hadn’t seemed real until that moment.
Bruce, though, just lifted Jason up and to his chest with the same natural competence with which he handled explosives and batarangs. “There, there, Jaylad. You’re hungry, hmm? I bet Alfred has already prepared a bottle. Let’s go find him, shall we?”
——
Dick volunteered to stay home and watch the baby that evening. Except when he returned to the crib with a freshly prepared bottle, it was a toddler staring back at him.
“Hey there, little man,” Dick greeted him.
Silence.
Dick tried again. “Jason, are you in there?”
The kid stared back at him, clearly wondering what the strange man was talking about. His eyes were so blue. “Me.”
“Yes, you’re Jason,” Dick agreed. “Do you remember me?”
Jason’s brow furrowed as if he was concentrating really hard. “No?”
“That’s okay. I’m Dick. I’m—” your brother. But how did you explain that to a toddler who didn’t remember any siblings? “A friend.”
After a minute of stern evaluation, Jason’s expression melted into a smile, and he held up his short chubby arms. “Up?”
“Of course.” Dick bent down and scooped Jason up with one swift motion, bouncing him up and down for a few seconds, to Jason’s great delight and giggles. Then he settled him onto his hip. “How about some food, buddy?”
“Hungry!” Jason declared. It sounded like ‘angry.’ Dick wanted to record that and use it as Jason’s ringtone forever.
He couldn’t very well give him the baby formula now, so: “Let’s go to the kitchen, then, huh? I like midnight snacks, too.”
“Snack,” Jason repeated. He seemed to like that word. “Snack, snack, snack!”
“Yes, snack. Hey B,” he called softly through the non-emergency line as they walked through the corridor, “listen to who woke up.”
“Baba?” Jason asked. Dick had no idea whether he meant Bruce or was asking for his own father. Either way, it was devastating.
“Jaylad,” Bruce murmured back. Dick didn’t call him out on the use of real names. “Why aren’t you sleeping?”
“No.”
Dick tried not to laugh at the sleepy pout. “To be fair, I don’t know how ‘slept like a baby for hours,’ literally, affects his sleep schedule.”
“How old is he?”
“About… two? Maybe?” Dick was not an expert in estimating the age of children, so sue him. “Maybe younger. He’s real small, and he doesn’t remember me.”
Silence. “N, we’re coming home.”
The bats had barely been out for an hour. “Sure. See you soon.”
——
It was Tim who discovered the next transformation. He’d taken over the early morning shift by virtue of not sleeping anyway. Jason’s room had been quiet; Tim had just wanted to make sure he was doing okay when he was greeted with a much larger shape in the bed than he’d expected.
Which, fuck, that couldn’t be good, right? Last time Jason had only skipped a couple of years, but now he was at least six.
The figure was also too still to be asleep. Tim switched on the nightlight they’d installed by the door and looked at Jason. Yeah, his eyes were definitely open. It was eerie, the way he held himself still as if he was trying to disappear into the darkness. Don’t notice me, his position screamed. I’m not here, go away.
It was so familiar. Tim couldn’t breathe for a second for the way it was a perfect reversal of the way he himself had spent his childhood. Notice me, look at me, don’t leave.
“Hey,” Tim called out softly, unconsciously imitating Dick’s voice. “Can’t sleep?”
“Who are you.” His voice was clear and hard, a far cry from the sweet toddler who had played with Tim’s cape when they’d come home from patrol at midnight.
That had been four hours ago. It was going to be a long day, wasn’t it?
“I’m Tim,” he said. “You don’t remember me right now because you’re… sick, but we know each other.”
The distrust did not wane. “Where am I?”
“At my father’s house. Wayne Manor.” Tim smiled. “Maybe you’ve heard of it?”
“Who else is here?”
“Your family.”
That did not have the expected effect, at all. Jason shrank back, hands gripping the blanket tight even as his expression remained blank.
Tim’s hand moved to his bracelet and pressed a button. He’d promised Bruce to wake him up if there was a development. Besides, he was in over his head here, and he knew it.
“I’m going to call them, okay?” There was no answer.
It took less than two minutes for the doorway to be filled with people. Bruce was first, of course, closely followed by Dick, with Damian, Duke, and Cass lingering just behind them in the hallway.
“You’re going to crowd him,” Tim pointed out. “We’re all strangers.”
“Tim is right.” Bruce stepped forward. “Stay back.”
They watched as he crouched down in front of the bed. “Hi, Jason. You don’t remember me, and I know that’s scary.”
“I’m not scared.”
Tim couldn’t see his face, but he would bet good money that Bruce smiled at that. “No, you aren’t because you’re brave, aren’t you.”
“Hmm. Where’s mom?” Jason asked.
“She’s not here. I’m sorry. You’re staying with our family and me for now.”
“Where’s dad?”
“He’s not here, either, but—”
Jason’s shoulders deflated.
Oh. Oh.
Tim could feel the tension rack up in the room as every single family member was simultaneously filled with rage.
Bruce, however, looked calm. “As long as we are here,” he said, quietly but with the kind of conviction that could move mountains, “no one is going to hurt you. Your mother is fine, and so are you.”
And Jason looked up and believed him. Tim could see it in the way he relaxed, how he slumped down against Bruce’s bulk as if it was the only thing holding him up. He didn’t say anything.
Tim felt a gentle tug on his elbow. He followed the others outside, quietly, leaving Bruce to keep vigil. It was touching, but something about the scene bothered Tim.
“Do you think,” he quietly asked Dick as the group dispersed, “that we should call someone else? His friends? You have Roy’s number.”
“It will help, being here, when he reaches Robin age. They’re strangers until he’s an adult.”
That wasn’t the point. Tim frowned. “I know you think he should be with family when he’s like this. But Dick—we haven’t been his family for a long time. We shouldn’t see this stuff.”
Dick swallowed, but he didn’t argue with that. “B already knows.”
“Not all of it. Not what will happen when—”
“Yeah.” Dick’s shoulders slumped. “But do you think you can convince B of that?”
“No.” Tim sighed. “No, I don’t.”
——
“Master Jason, what are you doing in the kitchen?”
It was eight a.m., and even Master Tim was asleep by now. Alfred had kept an ear out for the sound of a preschooler waking up, but Master Jason must’ve aged again. He looked to be about nine now.
The kid frowned. “I don’t know who you are, but I need to make breakfast, or mom won’t eat.”
Alfred took a moment to fix his apron, blinking discreetly. “Of course, Master Jason. Your mother, however, isn’t here at the moment. Would you like to help me prepare some pancakes?”
——
There was a sound like something heavy falling, then a curse. “Where the fuck am I?”
Dick and Tim exchanged a glance. They’d installed Jason in front of the tv, at first, but he’d been more interested in the few children’s books Bruce kept around for guests.
Tim had tagged along—at this point, he had somehow wound up one of Jason’s primary caretakers, and wasn’t that a sentence he hadn’t expected himself to ever think? Looked like the time for children’s books had run out.
When they walked over to the armchair Jason had buried himself in, they found a pile of limbs in front of it, scrambling to get up and look at them. The family had taken to dressing Jason in the largest clothes they could get him in without them falling off, just to spare his modesty at the next change. Not that Jason had really grown much over the last few episodes…
At least he was dressed as he woke up in an unfamiliar living room because he couldn’t remember the previous episode or his adult life, Tim thought. Honestly, this curse/science mishap/whatever seemed hellbent on making their lives as miserable as possible.
Dick advanced cautiously. “Jason—”
“And you would be?” the boy asked, his voice suddenly much lighter.
“My name’s Dick Grayson, and you’re safe here.”
“Hmm, am I?” There was something wrong with the way Jason looked at Dick. His weight was shifted to the side, pushing his hip to the front, his long lashes almost fluttering, and there was something challenging in his gaze as if he was daring Dick—as if he was—
The idea was so incongruous—so impossible—that it took Tim too long to connect the dots. It was the exact pose he saw the working girls and boys adopt, night after night when they approached a car.
The thing with Tim was: He could be thrown off a building, and his brain would still keep on working all the way down. (No, seriously, that happened several times.) It was just how it was. So he could be shocked at what was happening, at what he’d just learned about Jason, and still notice that Dick wasn’t.
Perhaps he was making a mountain of a molehill, then. Perhaps Jason had just seen too much on the streets and was trying to play along, to give Dick what Jason thought he wanted, and then he’d punch him when he got too close and get out of here.
Perhaps.
“Let’s just—wait it out, okay?” Dick sighed. “You got temporary amnesia. It’ll all be clear tomorrow.”
“Sure.” Jason looked like he didn’t believe him, but was willing to run with it. “You got some food?”
——
“Oh, hey Dick! You look different!”
Dick thought he was about to cry with relief. Finally, a Jason that knew them, that wouldn’t have to be reassured about their intentions every few hours. “Hey, Jason.”
“Is it for a case?”
“Something like that,” he said. “You’re in the future, sort of. We have to wait a few hours before you can go back.”
Jason’s eyes went wide. “Really? That’s so cool! Can I talk to myself? Where am I? What year is it? What am I doing?”
“We can’t tell you that,” Tim said suddenly. “You know. Time travel code. Gotta follow the rules.”
“Ah.” Jason nodded as if that made any sense. “But you can tell me about other things, right? What about the cave? Can I see how it changed?”
“No, not the cave—” not while that damn memorial was still there, “—but Alfred has a collection of photos in one room if you want to see.”
That would be fine. Jason wasn’t in any of those, anyway.
“Whoa,” Jason commented when he saw how many pictures there were. “This family sure has grown. Wait, who is that?”
“That’s me,” Tim said.
Jason frowned. “That’s a Robin outfit. Are you Robin after me?”
And Dick—he could see how Tim tensed up. Understandably so, they had all heard what Jason called him. “Yeah, I—I didn’t mean to repl—you were—”
“It’s okay,” Jason shrugged. “Robin is more than one person, right? Dickie here said that. You don’t stop being Robin. You just share it.”
Tim blinked once. Then again.
Dick watched in some concern, because—surely that’s what he said to him back when he gave Robin to Damian, too? Right? It was all such a blur, but he must have.
Jason was already moving on to the next picture. “Wow, are these your wings?!”
“Yeah.”
“Did you make them? That’s so cool, I wanna fly too!”
Dick watched in amusement as a blush spread across Tim’s face. “I could show you the plans?”
“That would be fun! It could be a project.” Then he whirled around. “Do you go to school?”
“Uh, not really.”
Jason frowned. “You should. Grades are important. You can’t go superheroing forever if you don’t have money.”
“That’s true.” Tim looked suitably chastised. Dick bit down on a laugh as he watched Jason walk along Alfred’s little gallery, commenting on everything he saw and pulling Tim along.
God, thinking about the kid they saw yesterday, this Jason was a miracle. Dick knew what it meant to pull yourself up after darkness crashed down on you, how to find a way to smile after you lost everything.
And he knew, too, what a single person who cared for you—who believed in you could do.
(Maybe Dick should’ve remembered that when Jason became a miracle for the second time.)
Bruce had been that for both of them. Even now, Dick could see him at the doorway, watching Jason with such pride and unbearable longing on his face. Then a shadow fell over his expression, and he turned away.
“Dick!” Jason called over. “Tim has never heard the train story! C’mon, you’re the best at telling it.”
“He hasn’t heard it because it’s embarrassing,” Dick whined, but he walked over and joined them. Might as well make the most of this, right?”
——
“I’m sorry, Bruce,” Zatanna said. “There’s nothing I can do.”
She was magic, Cass knew, and Bruce didn’t like magic. So if he was asking her for help… Duke, next to her, looked worried, as well.
They weren’t letting the two of them see Jason, and that was okay. Neither of them had ever been close to Jason. Not that Dick or Tim had been, exactly, but they cared in a way Cass and Duke admittedly didn’t.
“Is there anything that could slow down his aging process, at least?”
“Nothing but putting him into stasis, and he would not thank you for that, Bruce.”
Duke dared to ask: “But Nygma said the effect of the gas should stop once he’s reached his proper age, right? So that should be… alright?”
“And what,” Bruce ground out, “if the next time he phases forward, he’s dead?”
“Bruce.” Zatanna put a hand on his shoulder, empathy in every line of her body.
Bruce shook her off as if he couldn’t bear the touch. “We don’t know if he’ll wake up this time.”
For a second, Cass wanted to hurt everyone who made Bruce sound like that. But she knew there was nothing she could do. Love, she knew, cut like that sometimes.
——
Damian was well aware that they would prefer to keep him far away from Todd. To a certain extent, he understood. He would not wish more people than necessary to watch him relive his own childhood, either.
However, no one in this family was prepared for what was coming next. Damian knew.
The minute the screaming began, Damian walked into the room.
Jason was convulsing on the bed. Dick was frantically checking him for injuries, and Damian clicked his tongue. “That won’t help. He is not bleeding.”
Bruce turned to him. “Damian, what—”
“He’s in pain. His body is half-alive, half-dead,” Damian told them calmly. His voice wasn’t shaking. It wasn’t. “It won’t stop until he swims in a Lazarus Pit.”
His father should not look like this. Helpless. Pitiful. Damian resented him for it, just a little bit. Father had not been there the first time. This would only last for hours, and all he had to do was wait. The crushing weight of how to fix this was not on him as it had been on Mother.
“I’m going to get a tranquilizer,” Dick murmured.
——
Duke wondered what they would do if Jason woke up in full rage mode. He had seen the files, had read everything he could the minute this started happening. Cass had told him the rest, pieced together from hints her brothers had dropped over the years. There was no way they could deal with that if they were unprepared and Jason was in their home. No way.
So he was… nervous. Just a bit. Enough so that he was camping out in front of the bedroom that they were keeping Jason for now. Sure, Jason had been medicated, but Duke had seen Bruce trying that on Red Hood before. Red Hood had barely slowed down. Whatever the Lazarus Pits were, exactly, they sure did a number on a person’s metabolism.
Duke got his answer when Bruce sent everyone out of the room. Batman would wait alone, then. Dick and Tim obeyed, albeit reluctantly.
Tim, however, returned a minute later with Bruce’s utility belt, shock full of batarangs and other weapons. The older man, however, hesitated to take it.
“Bruce,” Tim said, and he very gently touched a scar on his neck.
Bruce took the belt.
——
The next morning, Jason left.
Minutes before, Bruce watched him as he woke up.
He had known as soon as he had seen Jason as a toddler that his son would not forgive him for this. The others, maybe. They had only tried to help. Bruce was the one too selfish to let Jason keep his secrets, bring him to people he trusted.
Because that sure as hell wasn’t him anymore. Deservedly so or not, Bruce had had to face that reality a long time ago.
Still, when Jason opened his eyes and there was only a tinge of green in them, nothing like the rage of the pit, just like they had been the last time Bruce had seen him without the mask—for that one moment, Bruce allowed himself to hope.
Maybe, just maybe, Jason wouldn’t remember. Then he could use the whole thing as a learning experience—see it as bonding, even—something that would allow them to finally move on; that would help Bruce to find the right trigger to get Jason to give up his mad crusade and come home.
Then Jason blinked, and his eyes were empty even of hate.
“My phone?” was all he asked.
“In the cave.” Bruce kept his voice even because what else could he do?
Jason nodded. Then he left, and he did not come back.

This week, a record made and released by close collaborators Eerie, Indiana and Heart on a Chain received a re-release with a deluxe edition to celebrate its 20th birthday
Though the front cover of Marshall’s Theory of Believably, the joint album by bands Eerie, Indiana and Heart on a Chain names only those two bands, the project was a collaboration between all the members of the Indiana seven. The Indiana Seven were a close group of collaborators who had a close working relationship in the 90s, creating iconic tracks and albums. The cover, which depicts a lone man in a ghost costume was shot by Sara Sue, an artist/photographer who shot most of the Eerie, Indiana’s album covers, and a track labeled ‘we gave this track to Tod’ features the enigmatic artist known as Tod, who also helped on the band’s delayed record Broken Record. The album art is different from the works of both bands, with Eerie, Indiana frequently having a sort of DIY feel to their photoshoots and Heart on a Chain tending to the more abstract kind. These particular photos (remastered for the deluxe edition) depict various band members in the dessert wearing a sheet over their heads with large black eye holes. The cover is Holmes, peering from behind a large unlit bonfire at the viewer. The title is written in the handwriting of Janet Donner, who also features as the figure on the CD itself. Teller features on the back of the album, and the back page of the liner notes, waving goodbye. Inside the liner, there are images of X, with Monroe being absent, apparently due to having a broken leg at the time of the shoot following an incident at a waterpark.
The album features twelve tracks, with many of them focusing on the idea of cryptids and other mysterious entities to make up the metaphors of the song. On the idea for the Album, Donner said: We wanted to talk about love as we knew it. This broad, mysterious concept that so many people in their twenties make love out to be.” On what she thinks of love now, Donner then remarked: Love is being glad the world hasn’t ended yet. I’ll leave you to make of that what you will. On the album, both X and Teller have cited the other as an inspiration behind the tracks, which will not come as a surprise to anyone who frequently listens to Eerie, Indiana as the pairs sometimes tumultuous relationship is often at the center of the most controversial and interesting projects done by the band. But this album is, more than anything else, a happy one.
The first single released from this album was the track ‘Sometimes I Almost Miss You’ in the one-two punch style of Eerie, Indiana the track is titled like a break-up but is a love song. Over an energetic guitar track and drum machine, Monroe sings about the heart transplant she’d had some years before and how she believes that she can still feel the donor even though he’s (according to the lyrics) long gone and sweetly resting. The track is careful to avoid any religious implications, instead suggesting that the donor (who has since been identified as Devon Wilde) instead rests inside her chest. With X on the guitar and Holmes on the drum machine and (of all things) the triangle, Teller is free to singe verses from the perspective of the heart donor, viewing the world from inside Monroe’s chest while Donner provides very beautiful backing harmonies. The overall mood of the track is one of quiet love and happiness, as well as gratefulness to the young boy who gave her the second chance. Those familiar with the work of Heart on a Chain know that the transplant features heavily in their songs and it’s no surprise to see it here.
The second track released in the work was ‘Me and My Jackalope’ and fueled rumors about a relationship between Teller and his bandmate, Dash X. At the time, both were closeted at the request of the label to avoid scandal. “Being in the closest literally almost killed me.” Teller would reflect later, interviewing for a project he did, releasing tracks for an LGBT themed album in the 2000s.”The funny thing is, I don’t think anyone who listened to us gave a damn. We’d go on stage, and we used to stand so close our knuckles were almost touching getting up in each other’s face and people would just go crazy.” Me and My Jackalope is, as you may have guessed, a song about impossible love. A love that the singer, in this case, mostly Teller, keeps hidden under his bed, only bringing it out to play when he’s alone. It’s a slow, sad track with Teller crooning to his animal “If they saw you, then they’d send you away.” Both Holmes and Monroe are credited as writers on the track, with the usual Eerie, Indiana flavor of complicated guitar playing set aside in favor of Donner and a violin and Holmes playing an assortment of other instruments.
The third and final promotional single was meant to be Skylines, which lyrics from are also featured on the inside booklet of the album however at the last minute it was swapped out to the Meatloaf cover in the center of the album, Midnight at the Lost and Found due to ‘label meddling’ after it was decided they needed another upbeat track after Me and my Jackalope. The track is nothing special, a seemingly typical Eerie, Indiana cover. Eerie, Indiana frequently covered Meatloaf and Jim Stienman tracks, hoping to work with one or the other someday. Sadly, this collaboration never came to be. But it’s a fun song, much like the original version from the 1983 album by Meatloaf. Somewhat of a deep cut by today’s standards, but it’s fun. Which I think was probably the mission statement of this album if Dash X is to be believed (Yes, that’s his stage name, no I do not know his real name). ‘We were a bunch of 20 something friends given a studio and a year or two to do whatever we wanted. So we did whatever we wanted, which was being weird.’
Skylines and it’s reprise is a group effort, with every member of the group joining in with the writing process to produce something that could have gone astray but managed to come together into something coherent. Skylines covers the re-treaded ground of many bands, it’s a song set about missing people while on tour. Set against New York’s bright, iconic skyline the track is mostly led by Donner as she wonders what her lover is doing right now. Her lover, played by Teller wonders about if his lover will stay in New York, swept up by the bright skylines, and pleading for them to simply be theirs. The track has backing vocals from all of the members involved, including Holmes who mostly shies away from singing parts. ‘It’s not that I don’t love to sing.” He explains, “I’m just not very good at it. Marshall was always the singer, I’m much happier playing the drums, or a cello or something.”
The final track on the album, clocking in at nine minutes, is Cryptids (I Still Believe in You and Me). This track shows off the impressive guitar skills of Teller and X, this time paired with the violin playing from Donner who shows she can keep up with the boys by playing speedy, intense sections with precision. This Dash X penned track also has extensive work by Holmes on the drums and a solo from a very jazz saxophone in the third act. Ultimately, the song doesn’t quite come together, feeling disjointed and a little over-complicated. But...Maybe that’s how it’s meant to feel. Dash was never brought into Eerie, Indiana as a writer, he was brought on to foil with Marshall on stage and because he was the only person the label could find that could play the punishingly difficult riffs Teller produces. On his Instagram speaking about pride X has suggested that a lot of his music was changed during production because it was too overtly about men, while Donner and Teller both proficiently changed pronouns in there songs, or stuck to calling their love interests you.
The album has three tracks that feel like filler, the intermission track which is not unusual on the cinematic, large scale Eerie, Indiana albums, a seemingly ‘story’ track called ‘Lost in Time’ which is a piece of Holmes poetry performed by Donner and an odd little track called ‘We Gave This One To Tod’ While the enigmatic Tod was often credited on Eerie, Indiana albums and opened for them at live shows he never quite reached the level of recognition his peers did. However, seeing the bizarre and experimental nature of his work, and his goth and punk leanings I think it’s safe to assume he was happier underground than his friends were blinded by the lights of showbiz. This piece features heavy synths and a drum machine. It doesn’t hit for me, but perhaps for a fan of Tod, it could be a holy grail.
On this version of the album, known as the deluxe edition, we’re given three additional tracks. A demo version of Elvis and the Mothman, which is lyrically the same slowed all the way down with the shouting chorus replaced with a mouth against the mic crooner style. The released, upbeat anthem style track is a far better fit for the album. Baba Yaga in Heels is a Heart on a Chain only track, perhaps why it was discarded. It features a techno style dance beat, with the lyrics being about a night out with Baba Yaga, a Banshee, and a harpy. Ultimately, the lyrics are not that impactful but they don’t need to be. The final listed track is a cover of Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell, which lyrically and sonically is almost identical to the original.
Overall, what Marshall’s theory of Believability tries to do is ambitious. It’s an album between two experiential groups of friends trying to make something that they enjoy. But it’s not the best work of either group, which is a shame because it could have been something very special if they were given a little more time to work out some of the kinks and if they pruned some of the tracks that are superfluous to the story of the album. I’m happy to have a copy in my collection, but honestly, I’d rather listen to something the group produced independently anyway.

Dragon Ball Z 288
Tumblr media
So between Episodes 287 and 289, you’ve got this ten year gap, spanning the wish to erase the world’s memories of Buu, to the first appearance of Uub, which marks the epilogue to Dragon Ball Z.     Over the years, there’s been a lot of material created to fill in that “ten year gap.”  The last ten minutes of Episode 287, this episode, Movies 13, 14, and 15, all 131 episodes of Dragon Ball Super and the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie.  Uh, what else?   That Yo! Son Goku and his Friends Return special.   There was some crossover special with One-Piece and another anime I forget the name of.  Also, both of the Xenoverse games, while set in the future, feature Goku pulled from this general time period.
I can’t blame people for trying to fill in this period with new stories.  The question is whether there’s really a story worth telling at this point.  I like Movies 13 and 14. Movie 15 was okay, but hardly worth the trouble, and Dragon Ball Super didn’t get good until the Tournament of Power, which I wouldn’t call essential viewing.    The action was good, but the story doesn’t hold a candle to classic Dragon Ball and DBZ.
In a lot of ways, Episode 288 is sort of a prototype for a lot of what Dragon Ball Super ended up doing: these slice of life, quiet moments in between the big adventures.  This is mainly because Super had a really hard time cooking up an antagonist worthy of the franchise.   Beerus and Golden Frieza were borrowed from movies, Champa, Hit, and Jiren weren’t really bad guys, and Zamasu was absolutely fucking awful.  When I watched Super, it was honestly a relief to see that the next episode would be the gang screwing around at a basebal field or a movie set or whatever.   At the same time, it was always frustrating to me.   They went out of their way to bring these characters back, and they never seemed to have a plan for what they wanted to do with them.  I’ll watch the Tenchi Muyo! gang hang out in a mall or something, that sounds like a good time.   But Goku?   I expect a little more from him.
Tumblr media
In this episode, everyone’s having a party at Bulma’s place, but Goku went off to watch some pterodactyl eggs hatch.   So it’s pretty similar to a number of one-shot DBS episodes, except DBZ hasn’t done this sort of thing very often, so it’s a lot more effective.
Tumblr media
Here’s the problem: One of the four eggs fell out of the nest and is stuck in this precarious-looking branch.    Goku wants to move it back, but the parents won’t let him, and I guess he’s not eager to force the issue with his powers.   He’s worried that the baby will fall once it hatches, so he sticks around to keep an eye on the situation.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Chi-Chi got all dolled up for this pary, so she’s decided to just go without Goku’s broke-ass and leave him to his nature hike or whatever.    There needs to be more fan-art of Chi-Chi in this getup.
Tumblr media
If I’m not mistaken, Goten’s outfit in this episode is a callback to the clothes Goku wore in that one episode of the Fortuneteller Baba Saga.   Let me just pull that up...
Tumblr media
Eh... close, but not quite.   Goten’s got the tie and the hat, but he’s wearing suspenders instead of a vest.
Tumblr media
Anyway, everyone arrives at Capsule Corp.   Yamcha’s got a new car Bulma had made for him at a discount, and Krillin’s thinking of asking for one of his own.    The Son family shows up and Chi-Chi gets miffed when anyone asks about Goku.   Chi-Chi says he’s waiting for his eggs to hatch.
Tumblr media
Anyway, they’ve got a nice spread here.    This looks like the place where all of Dr. Brief’s animals run around, but that seems like a bad place to hold a party, so maybe they have more than one indoor park.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Tien and Krillin have some pizza, and Master Roshi laughs at a “photo album” (it’s porn).
Tumblr media
Buu wants Vegeta’s hot dog, and he’s in a good mood so he gives it to him.   I always liked that.  It shows that they managed to get along at some point.     This is the sort of thing Dragon Ball Super should have done.   Buu never got a chance to interact with most of these guys in Z, and they killed him off in GT, so they could have gotten some mileage out of him in Super, but they didn’t.
Tumblr media
Chiaotzu drinks exactly half of one soda and leaves.
Tumblr media
Piccolo’s just chillin’ out in a flower bed.    Character arc, complete.
Tumblr media
Oh, you thought this was the smug Goku macro?   Tell me again how you didn’t know it was from this scene where Goku reminisces about his grandfather.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess the place where his space pod crashed wasn’t too far from this pterodactyl nest.   I’m surrprised the crater grew over so fast.    Also, this is like the third or fourth time they’ve shown this location in Z, and it never looks the same twice.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Grandpa Gohan was strict but also very kind, and I always like how Goku remembers him here, as the series is drawing to a close.
Tumblr media
Then a DINOSAUR FIGHT happens, because this show rules! Not sure why the two-legged dinosaur has hippo ears, but okay.   It’s like Toei thought the rights holders for actual dinosaurs would sue them or something.
This scene also features the Ginyu Force song from the early portion of DBZ.   You know the one.
youtube
Thirty-two seconds into this video.    They ran this song into the ground in the Namek Saga, and then slowly weaned themselves off of it in the Frieza Saga, until eventually it fell out of rotation.   I think it got used a couple of times in the Androids/Cell arc, and this might be the first time it’s been used since then.   And you know, it’s a great song when it’s used sparingly.   Once I got used to expecting it in every episode, it got really grating, but here, it works perfectly.    I found myself sort of missing it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Goku totally in favor of cool dinosaur fights, but he doesn’t want them near this nest, so he carries these rowdy boys to another spot and tells them to fight there.
Tumblr media
But that sort of kills the whole mood, you know?
Tumblr media
Never mind that, because it’s TIME TO DANCE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Japanese version, the score uses the rock music Tank Clerk was jamming to in Fusion Reborn.   I guess this is the only rock music in all of Dragon Ball, sort of like how Cold Slither’s music is the only rock music in G.I. Joe or Transformers.
Tumblr media
We’re tired of words!   We’ve heard it before!
Tumblr media
We’re not gonna play the game no more!
Tumblr media
We’re Cold Slither, heavy metal  machine!
Tumblr media
Through the eyes of a lizard in you will dream!
Tumblr media
When the venom stings, a new order brings our control!
Tumblr media
Anyway Chi-Chi rules the disco floor until she throws out her back.
Tumblr media
Then Dende mentions Goku and it brings down the mood.   This is why no one invites you to these things, Dende.  Even Tien thinks you’re a buzzkill and he just spent the last half hour explaining the Haber-Bosch process.
Tumblr media
Bulma is worried about Goku, but Chi-Chi playfully suggests that Bulma is sweet on him, but that’s just too bad, because Chi-Chi’s too pretty for her to steal him away.    Is she drunk?   Maybe, but this is still less awkward than the dub version, where she suggested they trade husbands.   “No, I was only kidding about swinging, Bulma.... UNLESS...”
Tumblr media
Back at where Goku is, all these other animals show up to watch the nest, because I guess animals do that in this show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then it rains, and Goku shores up the nest with a bunch of logs.  Not sure how this improves the situation, but okay.
Tumblr media
He tries to work on the branch the fourth egg is sitting in, but it falls into the river first.
Tumblr media
Goku saves it, but then a fish tries to eat him.
Tumblr media
But the egg is okay, so victory for Goku.
Tumblr media
Kind of an ominous shot of Capsule Corp.   Looks like something out of Revenge of the Sith.
Tumblr media
Everyone’s playing cards, and that looks like a lot of fun.    Well, not if I have to play with Roshi and Oolong.    Take me to the non-sex-offender table, please.
Tumblr media
Krillin and his family prepare to head out, but they walk out the door just as Goku shows up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This part here is great.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chi-Chi gives him a hard time, but she can’t be too mad, because he does this sort of crap all the time.
Tumblr media
So she takes Goku back to where the food is, and Goku gives Gohan the wink like “Yep, life of Riley.”
Tumblr media
I almost wonder if they tried to do some sort of Last Supper thing with this, except they couldn’t fit everyone into the shot on a 4:3 TV.    Anyway, Goku explains how things turned out with the pterodactyls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They all hatched.   Don’t really know what else to add to that.  Weird how some of these animals watching were causing trouble earlier.   That snake tried to eat the eggs until Goku tosses it away.
Tumblr media
Goten asks if he was cuter than the pterodactyls when he was born, and Goku explains that he was dead when Goten was born, so he doesn’t know.   Awkward.
Tumblr media
Then he invites Vegeta to come over and join them, because he’s sulking over by the window.
Tumblr media
i think Vegeta’s just enjoying this vaporwave sunset outside, but okay,
Tumblr media
Then the narrator observes that everyone just has more fun when Goku’s around, which, true, but this is the sort of lionizing of Goku that made GT really irritating.
Tumblr media
Then the Looney Tunes thing happens to him and that’s all, folks.

Merrygoround
This morning I had a burst of energy. The first one I’ve had since moving to the museum. Sleep is often illusive here. The building itself is noisy. Corrugated steel on a 40 foot cathedral ceiling with no insulation and significant wind, at least for the first several hours of darkness, plus the fact that voices echo, reverberate and carry in a space like this can make falling asleep a challenge if I happen to be interested in sleep before my co-workers and fellow museum dwellers. I am always interested in sleep before they are. Have I mentioned that they are all in their 20’s and 30’s. The only other senior citizen goes home to sleep like a civilized person. I’m sleeping on two thin mattresses stacked on top of each other on the tile floor in a small room that probably will serve as an office once this place is fully functional. At least it has a door that fully closes. That’s a thing here, doors and windows that just don’t quite do the job as intended unless the intention was to frustrate the intentions of the person intending to close the door or window. They work great for that.
Why the burst of energy? Who knows. I ate pretty much rice and potatoes with some salty kale yesterday. I did just a bit of yoga. I had just a smidge of ugali. Justus says it’s the ugali that did it. All of these people love ugali. Ugali would be kind of disgusting to most Americans I would imagine. But as I’m from the South and love grits I can almost wrap my mind around ugali. Almost. It’s a brick of tasteless corn meal. Justus says it’s full of energy. I can’t see how it’s anything more than filler but what do I know. I had energy this morning and if ugali was the cause of that well I will continue to chock down ugali.
I cleaned two rooms that serve as showers and another small food storage room. It took hours. Hauling water, lack of dustpan, lack of squeegee… Determination and a burst of energy were what had been missing until this morning. The need was always there. Especially after Baba brought a goat to spend the night in one of the shower rooms but that’s another story and I may or may not tell it someday. It’s a part of a much bigger saga that I am not at all prepared to tell as it is still very much in the process of unfolding and is so full of intrigue and corruption and politics that I will have to pay way more attention than I have been willing to pay to get anything like a full picture. I may never get the full picture. My curiosity has never extended to this kind of adult human drama and I usually stay out of it as best I can. I may not get away with it this time. The forces of evil are closing in. hahahaha (sorta).
My lack of energy has been an issue for me here. I have had days when I just wished I had a nice place to sort of loll around all day and maybe drink some smoothie or a lemon aide or nibble on some vitamins. When it’s hot it’s worse and it’s usually hot for several hours a day. I try to get stuff done in the morning and evening. Try is the best way to describe what I do. If you saw it you would not be impressed. I’ve never been accused of being overly ambitious but I do enjoy a good short cycle that has me use my body and not my mind. Here there are an abundance of cycles both short and not so short that need doing. To do any one of them requires at least twice as much time and effort as I’m accustomed to, being American and a spoiled American at that. Water, fire, wind, blowing dust or rain and mud and the blazing sun all conspire to make whatever I’m doing way more challenging than I think is reasonable. And, honestly, I have not felt strong enough to do much. It’s been a little worrying. But this morning I woke up clearheaded and with some pep in my step. What a relief. I don’t have cholera.
What has made my “condition” all the more vexing is being surrounded by these strong, ambitious, energetic, regal, intelligent, entertaining, inspirational, magnetic, creative, industrious Maasai women. Maybe they are the reason I can’t get shit done. I hope that’s not the case because they aren’t going away, I hope, and I just don’t like thinking of myself as that susceptible to my own insecurities. They have lived a life that requires so much more of them in certain ways than my life has ever required of me. The Maasai are not in the habit of partaking in luxury of any kind unless you count living in this magical place and living with these radiant big hearted people as a luxury. I do but I’m not sure that what I see as luxury counts toward making their burdens lighter. I’m sure that it must but it’s probably difficult for them to unwind the richness of their lives from the hard work involved in daily living. They are awe inspiring.
Today two of these women came to see us at the museum. They are two of the same women who participated in the building of two of the small houses on the property. They had certificates with them identifying them as members of a social services self help group registered with the county government. Our local female chief Mary told me about these groups, called merry go rounds by the participants, that women have established to help themselves and each other. They function kind of like my friend Carol Sue’s Cousins Club. All for one and one for all and we all take care of each other. These groups are the way that most Maasai women find to work with nonprofits. There is an established order that “bypasses a corrupt government” according to my friend and co-worker Justus. He may know more about this kind of thing than he does about ugali. He went to law school, not the culinary institute.
So these women want to bring their merry go round group’s beadwork to the museum to sell. They are also interested in learning to sew. We have a donor who is back in the states working on raising funds to support a technical training school where sewing would be one of the subjects taught. I am very enthusiastic about this as I love to sew and welcome any excuse to work with these women. If inspiration can cultivate productivity then I have set myself up for a leap in the direction of getting more done. Then again I might just get tired of feeling intimidated by them and decide that being a spoiled American is just who I am and I had better just be happy with that. We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted.
