3. COUFFAINE & TSURUGI

3.1. Couffaine

Couffaine: together with the last sound of Luka, Juleka, and Anarka's names, it's a pun on "acouphène", the French word for "tinnitus". Might also be derived from "Couffé", the name of a commune in the department of Loire-Atlantique, in the region of Brittany.

Juleka: most likely a variant of "Julika", which is itself a Hungarian and South Slavic diminutive of "Julia". This is probably why the Serbian, Croatian, and Slovenian dubs all changed the character's name to the standard form "Julija".

Luka: from the Latin name "Lucas", which might ultimately be derived from "lucere" (Latin for "to shine") or "leukos" (Greek for "white"). Is a very popular name in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and is also a noun meaning "port, harbor" in Serbo-Croatian and Slovene. The Russian dub changed it to "Luke" for some reason.

Anarka: from the word "anarchy". Is two letters off from the Hungarian name "Aranka", which means "golden".

Jagged Stone: in reference to Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones.

Penny Rolling: also in reference to The Rolling Stones.

3.2. Tsurugi

Tsurugi: the Japanese name for a double-edged sword, as opposed to a single-edged sword like a katana. Is probably in reference to Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the Three Imperial Regalia of Japan.

Kagami: "mirror", in japanese. Is probably a reference to Yata no Kagami, another one of the Three Imperial Regalia of Japan. The name was changed in the Italian, Latin Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese dubs because it was too close to a rude word in those languages. The Brazilian Portuguese dub changed it to Kyoko, the Latin Spanish one to Agami, and the Italian one to Katami.

Tomoe: from the name of a swirl-like symbol commonly used in Japanese heraldry, similar in shape to a magatama. Is in reference to Tomoe Gozen, and probably also to Yasakani no Magatama, the third and last of the Japanese Imperial Regalia.

Tatsu: "dragon", in Japanese.

The Miraculous Beatles

Ok, so I love the Beatles, and I like the characters of Miraculous Ladybug (not the canon show). I decided to make an alternate universe where the 4 boys who in canon had a crush on Marinette are instead the Beatles of their universe. Actually, it'll be 5 soon enough, as Marc is their fifth Beatle and joins later. So they are all from Liverpool (except Marc who is from London) and they formed the group in 1956 at the age of 14. Also they are all middle class. Don't worry, nobody's gonna die and they don't break up after seven years. Also unlike John, Luka doesn't beat his wife or ignore his kid.

Luke Lennon (Luka Couffaine/John Lennon)

Birthday - October 9, 1942

Instruments played in the band - Vocals, guitars, keyboards and harmonica.

Personality - Luke's a mellow guy who has a bit of a rebellious streak in him. Luke is the heartthrob of the group. With his tousled, jet-black hair, he exudes an effortlessly cool and mysterious aura. Luke's soulful and raspy voice captivates audiences, and his lyrics often delve into deep, introspective themes. He and his twin sister Jules (Juleka) like to make weird songs together.

Adrian McCartney (Adrien Agreste/Paul McCartney)

Birthday - June 18, 1942

Instruments played in the band - Vocals, bass, guitars, keyboards and drums.

Personality - The babyfaced charmer of the group. With his striking green eyes and perfectly styled blonde hair, he's the poster boy of the band. Adrian's bass playing is both melodic and solid, providing the foundation for the band's sound. He's known for his upbeat and friendly personality, which draws fans in. While he may be the face of the band, he's also known for his humility and willingness to connect with their supporters. He and Luke form a killer writing duo, even though Adrian's showtunes and more upbeat material is sometimes referred to by Luke as "granny shit".

Nathaniel Harrison (Nathaniel Kurtzberg/George Harrison)

Personality - Nathaniel is the creative genius of the group. With ginger bangs and a constant look of curiosity in his eyes, he's the band's secret weapon. Nathaniel's guitar skills are unmatched aside from his boyfriend Mark, and his songwriting is often spiritual and introspective. He's the quiet, introverted member, often lost in thought or doodling in his journal. Fans admire his ability to weave stories through his music, creating a unique and enchanting atmosphere during their performances. Nathaniel is gay and dating Marc, and the boys and their loved ones kept it a secret so that they didn't get arrested, since this is the 1960s in UK. It wasn't until 1967 that the two came out after getting married in 1966.

Nino Starr (Nino Lahiffe/Ringo Starr)

Birthday - July 7, 1942

Instuments played in the band - Drums, percussion, keyboards and vocals

Personality - Nino is the powerhouse behind the band's rhythm. His infectious energy and perpetual smile make him the life of the party. Nino's drumming is dynamic and energetic, providing a pulsating beat that keeps the audience moving. He's the joker of the group, always ready with a witty remark or a lighthearted joke to break the tension. Nino's charismatic stage presence and love for improvisation injects a sense of spontaneity into the band's live shows. It should also be noted that Nino is the only POC member of the group, with his mother being a Black Liverpudlian and his father coming from Morocco. He wears his background with pride, being one of the first artists to support the Black Power movement.

Mark Clapton (Marc Anciel/Eric Clapton)

Birthday - March 30, 1942

Instruments played in the band - Guitars, keyboards and vocals.

Personality - An tall anxious boy from London with a cockney accent who moved to Liverpool as a kid and befriended the other Beatles, who were his classmates. He soon fell in love with Nathaniel and they began dating. Mark is an absolute maestro with the guitar. His solos are legendary, evoking a range of emotions from raw, bluesy laments to electrifying rock anthems. His fingers dance effortlessly on the fretboard, and his mastery of the instrument is unparalleled. He is also a master songwriter, forming a lovely writing duo with Nathaniel and also providing songs with his other bandmates. The group had wanted him to join when they first started in 1956, but Mark had a huge fear of crowd's, and said he'd be fine as the unofficial "fifth beatle" until he got over his fear. This meant he would only go on stage if one of the other guitarists got sick, and for albums he would help write songs, provide guitar or background vocals, but never lead vocals. It wasn't until 1969 where he officially became a Beatle.

I don't know how, but you managed to find the only Adrien-centered fic in the bunch 😆

You said your alternative was "let's get you cleaned up" so here's what I have of that instead 😅 (and the original ask under the cut, cause why not?)

This started with this post about "let's get you home" and I think I'm trying to work out a way to get all three of these in here 👀

Luka ran, following Ladybug, watching for when she finally touched down in an alleyway. He barely registered the flash of pink light before he was turning and searching frantically for Marinette.

He found her ducked down against the wall, hiding behind a dumpster, sobbing, with Tikki perched on her knee.

“I’m so glad I found you,” he breathed. Her head snapped up at his voice and she was terrified. She glanced between him and Tikki like she was trying to work out how to explain anything about the situation before she shrank down into herself and curled her hands around her elbows.

“What does it matter, anyways?” she said, more to Tikki than to him. “I’m the worst Ladybug ever. It’s probably best if I have to give you up.”

He followed his feet until he was squatting across from her, and he held out his hands. She looked back at him blankly.

“Come on,” he said, beckoning her gently. “Let’s get you home.”

I should probably go to bed is based off this song from Dan & Shay of the same title. It's post-hawkmoth, post-reveal, post-fall out between Adrien and Marinette, but from Adrien's POV.

As [Adrien] focused his eyes back on the coffee in his hands, his ears perked to the name that was being excitedly whispered by the group of girls near him. 

“Look at this! Luke Stone! Ohmygosh he’s sooo dreamy...” A chorus of lovesick sighs followed the assessment, then a quiet pause as they continued reading. 

“A break from touring?!” A not-so-hushed lament was echoed over the whole group, and the magazine was temporarily in danger of being ripped as one half of the group tried to tear it away from the others to read for themselves.

“Ooh! He mentioned he’d thought about coming to Paris! Do you think he will?” 

“It doesn’t say why he’s retiring?” One of the girls, a shyer one it seemed, from her position on the fringes of the group, asked. 

“‘No comment,’” another read, “‘Stone says with an enigmatic smile.’ But look! He has his arm around that designer in this one, what was her name?”

“Duh, everyone knows that’s Marinette Dupain-Cheng,” the girl wearing pigtails said, rolling her eyes. “They’ve been like a thing for forever now, and she designs all his stuff.” 

“They are not a thing,” the first reader insisted. “Luke always just says she’s a talented designer and they’re close.” 

“Yeah, ‘close,’ as in celebrity speak for dating.” 

Adrien stood, unwilling to listen anymore or correct them. Luka and Marinette Couffaine were married, a year ago now. Nino had told Adrien before Alya could cut him off, glaring daggers at him with a toddler on her hip. Later, Nino had said he thought Marinette would’ve told Adrien. He’d managed to laugh it off somehow.
