I am 100% sure Louis and Harry were together in band days (and think their sweet baby love was so fucking adorable and beautiful I want to die), feel certain they still were after the band and again after a split for a while, and consider it possible that they still are now, but I don't feel like I can know that so I'm also open to the possibility that they aren't anymore (I go back and forth! I kind of lean towards no they aren't, but I can't rule out the possibility that they're still together; we just don't see either of their private lives anymore, anything is possible.) So am I still a larry? I actually have wondered this, I feel like the fandom terms have gotten so confusing- you can be sure they WERE together but not be a larry if you think they aren't now I guess (solo louies) but that would have made people froth at the mouth and send death threats a couple years ago, and idk maybe it still does (guess I'm about to find out😂). There are plenty of other aspects of the solo louie agenda I find fucking intolerable though, so I don't identify as that even if I do seem to fit the bill EDIT: I take it back I'm a BIG OLD LARRIE!! she was going great with her first three albums but then the shift from country to pop to alternate to pop again and now whatever the hell the toilet paper department is supposed to be has lost her off the rails. Her albums are more suitable to her boyfriends than herself.

I was actually very excited about midnights because it was painted as her "seizing her own identity" and "returning back to pop" especially with anti hero, lavender haze, mastermind and yoyok I felt like this time it was about her and her demons. not some villain in her life. It felt refreshing after her constantly victimizing herself. I loved the stupid "I'm the problem, its me" thing.

Now, after every breakup, her latest ex boyfriend has to pay the price for breaking poor little taylor's heart. But since she had been with joe the longest and during that long period of her time, she never said anything bad about him, put him up on a pedestal, she was so in love and content that we, the audience who have been with her journey with her numerous boyfriends felt like he was the one. he's the best one. there are no more problems. but then this does not last either. At first neither of them revealed the reason for the breakup. which was fine and it probably should've stayed that way because when taylor started to reveal more about it, that's when things started to go south for her

she tried to paint him as the bad guy. like he was such a terrible boyfriend, he didn't want to marry her because he was depressed boo fucking hoo. being depressed is not as big of a crime as she tried to make. It also doesn't help your image when you confess to emotionally cheating on the alleged love of your life about a fucking nazi.

Miraculously this time taylor didn't get away with it. She didn't get to date the nazi. so she proceeded to throw a tantrum on her latest "masterpiece" about how she hates her fans and she's so miserable and depressed. again boo fucking hoo. dragging old drama with kim and kanye out of which she came out the winner but also dragging their child into this?? (like what did the kid do to you?)

I hate how everyone conveniently forgot that taylor dated connor kennedy when he was still a minor (she was five years older than him) and immediately after his mother died, bought a house in his neighbourhood to get in his circle and crashed his cousin's wedding and when the groom's mother asked her to leave, she ignored her??(what kind of psychopathic behaviour is this?)

Not to mention the lack of support for palestine, after wanting to be on the right side of history, per formative activism, fake feminism, stealing candy from olivia who's like half her age or something, using sabrina to rub salt on her wounds, blocking charlie in the uk charts, and now trying to re-write history like "I wrote folklore and evermore alone on the phone with aaron and jack" Does this woman ever stop?

She lost a lot of respect with that one. The excitement i felt for midnights is gone. she hasn't changed, she will never change. But I'm tired. I can't keep up with her anymore.

Now what's going to happen? I'll tell you what. she and travis will break up and then she's going to drop another "masterpiece" and bitch and moan about how much of a terrible boyfriend her was. And its going to be in the genre that travis likes because taylor doesn't make music about herself, always about her boyfriends. She's not going to grow up. But I have. I can't put up with her anymore.

What a lovely ask! You're so kind. I'm going to go with Fleur Delacour.

How I feel about this character

The way she showed her devotion to Bill at the end of book 6? Absolutely iconic. Best written intentionally romantic moment in the whole series. Hands down. No contest. The way she handled that dragon? Immaculate. The judges were just mean and veelaphobic and also JKR is super weird about her female characters.

Also kudos to her for being the only character when Harry got picked as a Champion in book 4 to be like 'no this is ridiculous he's too young.' Yeah she was a little harsh about it maybe. But wow. One of the only responsible adults in the whole series. Child me was like 'omg she's so mean' but now I'm like 'you go girl.' She should've been there to roast all of Dumbledore's questionable decisions. Can you imagine. Dumbledore: Don't worry. I have a plan. Fleur: Eez eet child endangerment again?

I genuinely enjoy her as a character and also find the way her identity as a part human who is fetishized to some extent and viewed as Other but not demonized in the way werewolves or half giants or half trolls are in her world to be fascinating fodder for a lot of interesting character work.

Also, I always have a soft spot for characters who I feel the narrative is actively telling me to dislike. I prefer stories that let the reader come to their own conclusions. As soon as I feel the story is too forcefully and artificially shoving down my throat "you must like this character" or "you must dislike this other character,” especially when it's not justified by what we actually see in the text, then I kind of want to do the opposite. So if you think my girl Fleur did something rude no she didn't or if she did that was her emotional support rude comment and she deserved to go off.

For real though. She put up with so much hate from Molly and the whole Weasley family for literally no reason. She deserved to be a little snarky. Ginny is so mean to her for literally no reason and the narrative wants us to laugh along and cheer on this immature, unkind highschool meangirl behavior as though it's some epic #girlboss moment when it's just mean. And Fleur's parents meanwhile are absolutely lovely (probably because Fleur covered for her in-laws and didn't tell her parents how she had been treated lest her full Veela grandmother show up and start throwing fireballs at them all).

You go Fleur. You never did anything wrong in your life. Ever.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I love her with Bill. I think Bill and Fleur are by far the best handled canon romance in the series. (Well, best handled intentionally canon romance - we all know JKR wrote a 7 book drarry epic but that was an accident lolol). They are so sweet together and so devoted to each other - despite any obstacles (including unsupportive family members). And they really compliment each other so well and just yeah. It's so sweet.

On a semi-crack level I do also like the idea of Fleur/Luna though because they both can be very blunt and directly state difficult truths in a way that can make others uncomfortable or seem rude. They do this in very different ways and also have very different outlooks but I think it makes them interestingly complimentary. And they'd both be confident and self assured enough to handle each other and not take offense. I feel like Fleur and Luna flirting would be so hilariously direct and entertaining. (Though it'd probably have to be postwar as. I think Fleur would be likely to scoff at Crumple-Horned Snorkacks).

I can also totally picture a Bill/Fleur/Luna poly relationship. I feel like it'd end up being improbably chill and functional somehow despite the big personalities. The three would probably be off living their best lives and eating metaphorical popcorn while all the other characters spent years having epic relationship drama.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I want to see her and Charlie hanging out so badly. After seeing her take on that dragon Charlie was probably pulling all kinds of shenanigans to get her together with one of his siblings because he doesn't want to get married but also oh merlin he needs this woman to be part of his family. Give me the Charlie and Fleur epic friendship and dragon taming duo.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don't think Bill was attracted to her because he likes "glamour." I think he saw her as the brave, loving, and intelligent person that she is.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I wish other characters had apologized to her and stopped mocking her and treating her horribly.

Anyways!!! I've actually been waiting to drop a bunch of stuff on these fellas that I've been talking about with some folks on Discord (which y'all can also ask for if you wanna talk to me on there I LOVE TALKING TO YOU GUYS), so thank you for granting me the perfect opportunity >:3 so, without further ado, I shall begin:

First of all, i just wanted to drop my height HCs bc,,,, why not lmao

I can't exactly visualize heights very well in my mind so these may be a wee bit too tall, idk, but yeah! I think giving Hyde an extra half inch would be funny bc you KNOW that mf would just round up lmao. Elias is a bit taller than Hyde, which Hyde kinda hates sometimes, itty bitty fella.

Anyways!! Harry is first up for rambling bc I have less for him rn lmao. I don't remember if ive mentioned it much before on here, but I know I included it in the fic i did for him, and that's his Scottish accent :3 we as a fandom don't write Jekyll's accent enough so I like projecting it onto injured Hyde and now Harry 😌 MORE SCOTTISH JEKYLL PLEASE-

Harry didn't really have to worry about keeping face in the mindscape (except for when around Mind Lanyon, who would pester tf out of him over it) so he fell back to at LEAST having an accent. He partially fell back on it because 1, it made him feel a wee more comfortable, and 2, because of how often he revisited memories from university (specifically during his and Lanyon relationship ofc), so he's used to hearing himself speaking with at least a drawl.

But yeah, that accent kinda sticks with him when he gains control and he has quite a hard time shaking it, which makes for some fun interactions, like when Lanyon's trying to break down his office door :3333

I believe I've mentioned this, but Harry is very very sensitive to most physical sensations (touch, pain, etc.) and has some light and sound sensitivities for a decent bit after gaining control. Because of how long he spent in the mindscape with numbed senses, It really messed with him to suddenly have control again. Eventually he starts getting used to it again, but for the first few days he's practically on the edge of a mental breakdown at every moment. He's also super jumpy from it (and from the ungodly paranoia he got from the mindscape lmao) and is quite firmly "no touch" for about a week (except for when he initiates stuff with Lanyon). Once he gets used to it tho his touch starved ass is a lot more affectionate and such.

One last thing for him! He's also far more sensitive to hunger and thirst sensations/pain, so he tends to take far better care of their body while in control. It took him a short while to get used to eating and drinking again, but he's more than happy to do it, not realizing how much he had missed it. Plus, he's seen how horrible Jekyll and Hyde would take care of themselves, so he certainly doesn't want their neglect to be his downfall. He's also a bit more sensitive to being tired, but can't sleep very well (especially without Lanyon) because of paranoia and nightmares.

OKAY, NOW, onto Elias!! Most all this stuff is from a discord convo that I didn't feel like rewording, so... Sorry if the formatings weird 💀 (questions are indented and italicized, as well as abbreviated)

OKAY SO, For how Henry (or whoever) convinces Elias to switch back:

Elias usually throws some sort of fit when he's initially order to switch back (except for the very rare instances where he's actively wanting to switch back, like when everyone's busy and he starts getting lonely anyways), though most the time he'll simmer down when Henry starts sorta begging or when either Henry or Lanyon (or very occasionally Hyde) lowkey bribe him. Usually Henry (or Hyde) will bribe him with physical touch/affection (hugs, cuddling, kisses, stuff like that), or bonding time, like going out and doing things together and such (or just doing stuff together at the society, like watching Henry do science or doing paperwork 💀). (Also, sometimes Jekyll will just get somewhat impatient and start asking more desperately and the guilt kinda gets to Elias, Henry usually feels bad about it tho) otherwise, Lanyon will bribe him (quite grudgingly, might I add) with more time out, going to the park with Elias in shadow form and talking, or letting him get a gift for Jekyll or Hyde. But yeah, Elias is lowkey like a little affectionate, overactive puppy :3

LANYON WOULD TOTALLY STEAL ELIAS'S STUFF TO USE AS BARGAINING LEVERAGE 💀 but yes, bribery is the go to, this guy does NOT like being locked away, so when he does it's either out of guilt or he's getting something out of it, hehe

Oh he absolutely would, Lanyon would have a whole "confiscated" shelf for it too, and Elias would definitely whine about it with sooo much persistence. AND JFKGKKF YEAH JEKYLL WOULD 😭😭 both out of selfishness and not, since he still hasn't tested how the formula behaves when an alter ego is out for prolonged amounts of time, and sometimes he just wants Robert back.

Jekyll likes Elias, he just has more of a preference for Lanyon. Jekylls probably also got a bit less patience for Elias's whining after dealing with Hyde's for so long lmao, he always feels kinda bad about being mean or anything to Elias tho, since it's kinda his fault that Lanyon split.

Would Lanyon ever like bother Elias with the fact that Jekyll likes him better?? Like maybe, at one point he just gets too tired of him wanting to hang out with Jekyll and says to him that Jekyll just deals with him out of pity, and like Elias then just feeling kinda bad about it and wondering if Jekyll actually likes him??

If Lanyon's feeling especially spiteful and annoyed, probably, but also Elias worries about that enough on his own and bothers Lanyon with all his self deprecating thoughts anyways 💀

How does Hyde feel about Elias?

He's generally guilt free about the whole "splitting Lanyon" thing and /gen likes Elias way more than he likes Lanyon lmao. He still gets that sorta bitter anger and resentment when he looks at Lanyon, but he doesn't get that with Elias. Hyde kinda thinks that Elias is all the best parts of Lanyon (Except for Elias's emotional sensitivity sometimes, but Hyde deals. He feels surprisingly bad when he upsets Elias..) But yeah, Elias is most of the reason why Hyde is complacent enough to actually kinda lay low after messing up Blackfog and stuff, so Jekyll certainly likes Elias for keeping Hyde somewhat in check lmao

Several days ago I read your post about a blind ml, AND I LOVED IT? plus it made so much sense

But it also got me thinking about what Liam and Harrison's designated rivals would be like? I'd love Harry's to be a member of the police or a detective with a Sherlock Holmes-like intellect! For Liam I would like a "businessman", similar to a lawyer or something like that? Someone who is not easily swayed by his emotions and has "feet firmly on the ground".

I said that I won't be answering any asks, but fuck it. This is my favorite game and favorite topic.

Here's what I thought about the 3 new male leads:

The blind male lead. Although I do love the idea of having an evil completely blind male lead, I don't think Cybird would really go that route. Maybe he will be half-blind. Like one eye would be of different colour, because we don't have an eyepatch guy or a guy with heterochromia in this game yet. Or maybe they will go ahead and not follow their usual Cybird trope and not introduce an eyepatch guy or a guy with heterochromia at all just like how we all thought William would be the black-haired male lead. Still it would be really cool to have a blind male lead. I want to believe this blind male lead to be the guy who brought back the Golden Butterfly that William once destroyed, because we still don't know who actually brought back Golden Butterfly, so this is a curious case. What if the blind male lead is actually Colin? William's childhood friend? Did he actually die? What if he's back to do something? When I see Colin and William's interaction, it reminded me of Gilbert and Chevalier's interaction, where Gilberts says "It's not the people who are evil, but its the circumstances that makes them evil." or something like that. This is my theory btw. Now I don't know which fairy tail villain the blind male lead is gonna be, but I'm really looking forward to it. Maybe he will be the one to make William not smile. William is always cool about everything and always smiles, so it would be cool to see a character like Colin who brings out the vulnerable side of William.

The next one, I think it has to be someone from the Privy Council. Now Privy Council hates the existence of the Crown and cursed people, right? So I thought, it will be interesting to see a male lead from the Privy Council, who also hates the Crown and wants to destroy it. But he's also secretly a cursed one. But he hates being a cursed one because that would make him be closer to the Crown members. This male lead believes in justice and does not believe in the Crown's motto of 'conquering evil with evil'. He thinks that the Crown members assassinating the criminals is still evil. He's a guy who lives by his morals. If I have to give a back story for this one...let's assume that his hatred for the Crown was because they took something from him that is precious. What if this male lead's father or mother were some kind of criminals working for Golden Butterfly and the Crown was ordered to kill the parents of this male lead. Seeing his parents being killed brutally at the hands of the Crown, made him angry and led him to having a thirst for revenge. That would also probably be the time when his abilities starts to activate. Victor might have offered him to join the Crown but he refused and joined the Privy Council instead to bring down the Crown. But he's keeping his identity as the cursed one as a secret. For bringing down the Crown, he joins hands with the blind male lead secretly, while also planning on the side to destroy Golden Butterfly as a whole. All for world peace. That's my storyline for this male lead. A male lead who believes in justice and doesn't want to breach his principles.

The 3rd one, could be someone related to Victor? or Jude? I don't know, I have no idea on this one. Or wait, it could be Ellis...because in Jude and Ellis's past records, there is line where Ellis says "Long time ago, I used to say something like that to XXX." WHo is this XXX? We don't know...maybe he has a brother. We'll just have to find out from his route.

Another thing, Roger is said to have the hunter's curse, right? So there is a hint that he's going to betray. What if he's secretly in an alliance with the blind male lead. I don't know man, I want the blind male lead to be the Gilbert of this game. I'm desperate. It's gonna look so cool! Make him the most evil guy possible!!

ive seen a few posts that have bothered me. i searched "remadora bad" on google to see what people were saying and it came up eith tumblrs and reddits etc and they were all really weird.

i recently got into the marauders fandom after reading atyd and being a fan of harry potter since i was a child, this fandom made me really happy because of the escapism it provided. many of us have loved hp and then realised its problematic aspects and seen jkr being the worst and no longer can escape with hp.. and marauders fandom is a much more inclusive and feels safe space. i do ship wolfstar and i want to get this straight because one post mentioned wolfstar shippers and it was definitely a weird take.

the post was about how women who ship two men together hate women because if theres a woman in the picture its always a crime against her i guess? they also touched on fetishisation of gay men in a way that seemed to be encapsulating all of these people into that message.

1. not everyone who ships two men hates women. i mean this is absurd 😭 it seemed much more like this poster was more anti fanon, which is odd. anyone who defends jkr instantly puts me off, i understand if someone is confused by not following canon when talking abt media.. but it shouldnt go so far as to licking jkrs ass saying "shes the author she knows best🤓🤓" we know shes the author, thats half the problem. anyway, i understand this point but it didnt work in the context they were using it for (remadora/wolfstar). the marauders fandom has been criticised for misogyny, but the generalisation of shippers all having that belief is just untrue.

2. fetishisation of gay men is most definitely prevelant in shipping spaces but it goes eithout saying that an entire community of people wont all have the same views and opinions. from personal experience, i have always been wary of fetishising gay men and recently realised that my special interests being shipping different gay relationships has been involved in my gender identity. im not really sure of anything yet but i am exploring being actually a man or gener fluid or non binary.. as i said i dont know yet but i have realised that i have always put myself in these ships, wanting to be one of the men in them (of course this hasnt been the sole reason im questioning my gender). generally, i think shipping is very fun and just a great way of exploring romance in your favourite medias that represent you - which is what many people in the marauders fandom express. i do understand this concern though - fetishisation is a real thing and these ships shouldnt be objectified to be apart of that. i just dont think we should automstically assume every shipper is fetishising gay ppl.

as ive grown, ive realised how forced remadora was in the movies. i always felt like it came out of nowhere but i was a kid and i didnt care enough to think abt it like i just wanted to see harry running through the grass and shit. anyway, ive watched a few viedos abt the marauders fandom and about jk rowlings problematic writing and i have a few points to make about remadora and tonks' and remus' characters respectively.

in ootp, tonks is introduced as a fun, independent, and rebellious person. they arent afraid to speak out abt their name to someone more experienced in the field (mad-eye) and they have bright purple hair so obviously they r cool and awesome. they are a metamorphagus(?) meaning they can change some parts of how they look. i, and many others, see this as a symbol of trans teens. correcting the feminine "nymphadora" to a more unisex "tonks", the fact they can literally change how they look (perhaps showing their desire to change themselves ehich many trans people relate to), and their overrall childlike attitude. i think rowling makes tonks young and fun to show immaturity, therefore the transcoded character is sort of displayed as an immature teen that doesnt know any better (insert jkrs transphobic tweets here).

jkr seems to have unintentionally presented her transphobic views in the character of tonks. many people related to tonks because of their gender fluidity and hbp disappointed many with this character development.

now, the age gap between remus and tonks is 13 years which is gross. especially when you think about the more childish representation of tonks in ootp, like theyve been matured in hbp for the purpose of making the relationship less weird? idk but this is a point that really irks me because many ppl ignore this and always conclude that ppl who dont like remadora are just wolfstar shippers and also hate tonks because they r a woman. even if i hated wolfstar id still hate remadora because of this gross age gap😭😭

Hello! I hope I’m not too late for the matchup event, but I thought I’d give it a try!

Identity: I am a 23 year old woman. I go by (she/her) and I identify as straight.

Who do you like: I love the ghouls 🥵 I’m a pretty new fan, but they are how I discovered the band so I’m pretty attached.

What do you look like: I have long dark brown hair with layers. I’m 5’2, but I’ve been told I look taller because I have longer legs 🦵. I have hazel eyes that can look green sometimes. I’d say I’m on the skinner side which is something my family likes to poke fun at. I have a couple tattoos (on my ankle, sternum, and thigh) all of which are animals because I’m a massive animal lover. My style is pretty versatile, I’d say I dress based on what looks good on me so that it makes me feel good. Sometimes it’s more girly, and sometimes it’s all darks, sometimes it’s more dark academia. I like to play around with my style.

Personality: I’ve been told I’m very mature. I’ve had to experience a lot when I was younger that grew me up pretty fast. I try to be kind and welcoming to all people because I know what it’s like to feel left out or judged. I can have a temper when I drive (but who doesn’t). I deal with some mental issues and at times need some space. But I’ve made it a point to work on myself so I’m able to have a great life despite that stuff. I’m not confrontational unless I need to be, I’m too nervous. After a lot of hard work I’ve become pretty secure in myself but there are still those days yk.

Interests: I love animals, I’m a massive animal lover. I’m currently going to school for photography in hopes that I’ll be a wildlife photographer. I love being outside, but only when it’s cold outside because I hate the heat. In my free time I either like to do something cozy like playing animal crossing or reading. Or I like to do something creative like coloring or an easy craft. But I also have those days where I like to lay down and watch a movie and do nothing. I also like going for walks or bike rides during fall and winter. My music taste varies depending on the day. From harry styles to Metallica.

Trivia: I have a dog who means the world to me. He’s saved my life and made me a better person. In ways that I didn’t think was possible for a dog. I am one of 9 siblings (half and step). Mental health is something that I’m very passionate about, and I will always advocate for it.

Your match is...Rain

You were so kind and welcoming to Rain even though you were new to the world of Ghost and Ghouls. He just adored that about you.

Rain just loves any excuse to chill with you. Ver are happy to sit in silence and just hold you. Even more happy when your dog joins in too. He just kinda stole Rain’s heart as well.

Rain is so proud about how you've worked on yourself, he will support you in anyway he can.

If you need space Rain respects it but if you are having a bad day and want him around he'll just hold you close.

Rain enjoys napping with you, ve loves to just cuddle you and fall asleep knowing you are there with him.

He will go with you on any trip you want. He's happy that you prefer the cold weather as he is a cold water Ghoul. So while you are trying to photograph the wildlife, he'll do his best to sit still just chilling next to you.

But sooner or later you see him sneaking off to the nearest cool water and just happily hanging out in the lake or river. You get some really good photos of Rain too.

You two then spend the evening together cuddling on the sofa under a blanket playing animal crossing.

Heartstopper review Netflix

So more like a quick rundowns of the positives and negatives of the show. I'm not doing a summary. Mild spoilers ahead, but no plot specifics.

Positives:

It shows very well how coming out is a process, rather than all at once. This eliminates the straight gaze pat-on-the back.

I think it shows how being an ally and allies saying things is sometimes really awkward really well.

It shows queer joy very well. I enjoyed that.

It addresses sexual assault well by labeling it for what it is.

It features a lot of different identities at once.

The music is spot on

The explaining of what prejudice feels like is really spot on. Especially long term prejudice.

The parents are also lovely in the show as most of the adults. Honestly makes my queer heart hurt since I didn't get that for the majority of my life.

I like the shades of queer acceptance from family members--that's more realistic.

Honestly, Tao is my favorite character. Feels effortless. I'd love him to be pan or omni... ^^;; If the actor consents.

I love how queerness kisses the line between casual rep yet not token, but never veers into kill your gays, or queer tragic. It's queer joy with a side of nuance.

I like that the jerk is called Harry, seems like a reference.

I like it shows what comes after coming out, so it's not I've come, out now fight with the straight people, and then movie is over feeling. It shows there is hope and process, etc afterwards.

I like show it shows queer adults so it doesn't end with being teens. It talks about being a queer adult and discovering it late.

There are multiples of the identity shown and it talks carefully, but smartly about "passing".

The reference to Pirates of the Caribbean making a lot of people realize they were Bi, I appreciated it, though honestly, hated it for the racism and said so when I watched it. 'cause really disliked the rep on Voudou, and was called uptight for it. (We're no longer friends) And if I'm complaining, and read objections, then yeah, gotta be worse for the ID.

The smooth insert of a wheelchair user. I appreciated that.

Yes to queer solidarity.

The code switching is done really well in both French and Cantonese.

I like how it's mostly discovery, and the conflict is mostly undercut, but if they are together, they feed each other rather than it being one note all the time.

Asian boy gets to date I also like rather than the usual desexualizing.

The discussion of mental health and the intersectionality with queer teens, in particular, I liked.

Talking about consent is some of the best.

Talking about the unpleasantness of being outed without permission is done well.

Negatives:

I think for identities that are not completely one way or another, it kind of skims past them. It's the prominent LGBTQIA (though missing the I and two As.) For example, nonbinary (including agender etc), intersex of any kind, aromantic (She's working on it I think), gray-a (demi included of either ID), pan and/or omni. Feels more like mainstream queer identities. There's also generally queer rather than one. at. a. time. I'd like more shades for series 3 and intersectionality. The creator is not one at a time either. So I have faith they'll get there.

Questioning isn't shown very well. I'm not a fan of that. I thought it was shown by half and how confusing it all is with Nick, but for some reason I felt it was undercut a lot by Ben because he was questioning for much longer and was an AH about it. I thought shades of questioning were left out as well. I did like the whole doom and gloom feel after feeling joy at having a label. I felt that. Some nuance I felt was flattened for this ID. I sometimes get akoiromantic or apromantic from Ben, but I'd prefer him not being an A about it.

Tao mostly mentions American and UK movies. He speaks Cantonese, and Cantonese movies have subs, so I'm kind of surprised he's not shared them with his friends. I mean Kung Fu Hustle, objectively is a great movie. Stephen Chow? There's also plenty of Cantonese Language Rom Coms too for him to love. We live in an era where you can get subs on anything. Take advantage of it. For me as an Asian I also like watching shows with people of my own nationality and face. He has the internet and computer.

I feel somewhat 50/50 on some of the animation because sometimes it feels added as if it doesn't trust the actors to deliver, rather than added because it adds something. I think in series 2, it got a bit better so it enhances, rather than shows a lack of trust. That said, the animated cut aways I really like--where it animates around imagined things said in prejudice, etc.

Asexual extroverts also exist? Almost all of the Aces I've seen on TV tend to be introverts, outcasts and weirdos. But I'd also like to see ambiverts, aces that like flirting (which also exist), gray-aces (including demis), and aces that get along with other people in their friend groups very well. Black Stripe isn't the only way to "prove aceness" the majority of aces just don't feel primary sexual attraction or it goes away later (demis and some gray-a's feel secondary sexual attraction). It doesn't come with other personality traits like "hating other people" or are all introverted. I'd like to see this challenged. What's step 2 after coming out? 'cause there is ace joy too.

Race isn't handled as well as the queer rep. I don't feel the same degree of race joy that I do queer joy.

Where are the desis besides Farouk?

All of the PoCs are paired with different race PoCs? The only same race couples are white. And I'm not saying that PoC/PoC interracial dating is "wrong" but I'd like to also see the reality that some PoCs also date same race too.

I know you write bl but please do not defend Emma. She is known in our fandom as a transphobic asshole. She has been openly transphobic to harries and larries because they think Harry MIGHT be trans. She is also homophobic with how she as a cis het white woman thinks she has more say in how a gay fandom needs to operate. There are years worth of receipts of this. She harassed my friend because they tagged Harry as a princess on their own blog and tried to call them homophobic for doing so. Im mutuals with authors who had to drop out of the bl fest for personal reasons, and then Emma and her friends started harassing them for joining a non bl fest months later. You should see how former blouie authors are treated by her after they dont write exclusively bl fics anymore. The reason BLP is not well liked in fandom is because of her. There is literally a top Harry fic fest run by an actual trans person and much more supported by larries. Louis bottoming isn't the issue. For years blouies have made that their only personality and harassed and sent so many larries death threats (me included) because we blog on our own blogs about Harry wanting to be pregnant or singing about sucking dick or anything that doesn't make him "a top". Blouies have ruined themselves for their entire fandom and that anon is a perfect example of how they are.

Then to address your points about Louis bottoming... Again, I'm not sure, like. Feels a bit like you're barking at the wrong tree? One of my favourite smut authors is devilinmybrain (oh my god that 5+1 gross-hot fic nnnn) and I read, and to some extent write, quite happily everything as long as it's good. Like, both of them canonically have a prostate. It's a shame if they never use it. And Harry being feminine has nothing to do with Harry bottoming (or topping ;) of course), but this is something that needs its own post to be expanded.

And in terms of how he finds out - yes, it is because he finds his birth certificate. He only finds out after he’s retired while searching for some documents for some kind of form or something idk.

It’s not like Jamie didn’t know he was adopted. He knew he was an adopted baby, but Harry and Sandra had never said a word about his biological parents, let alone that his auntie Frank was actually his mother, and that he actually was biologically related to his dad the whole time. Of course they don’t, because that would unravel the family - Sandra doesn’t even know that Harry is the biological father. She has her suspicions and a concerning amount of evidence but nothing concrete enough to come out and say it.

When he finds out, Jamie basically shuts down emotionally. He completely cuts off Harry and Sandra and the rest of his family (except his older brother Mark) for a good few weeks because he doesn’t know how to process the fact that he’s been lied to his whole life. You also have to consider that at this point Jamie has his own family and is a mother himself; he’s actually 29 weeks pregnant with his fourth child when this all first comes out. He has three daughters and a husband (Freddie Flintoff) who he can’t just stop the world for. It takes him a very long times to process, and Jamie doesn’t speak to his mom until his newborn son is almost a month old. They end up having a long talk where Jamie basically comes to the conclusion that he doesn’t blame Sandra because she was doing her best. She loved her husband and she still raised Jamie as her own even with the betrayal of her husband cheating on her with her sister’s wife.

It takes a lot longer for Jamie to come round to seeing Harry again. It’s not until Jamie’s son is about ten months old that they talk again. And it’s not that Jamie forgives Harry for what he did, but he can’t say that all the love he feels for Harry as his dad just melted away, because it didn’t. And sometimes it’s easier to swallow the ugly feeling and run back into someone’s arms in the hopes that the new memories you make will be so sweet that the old ones don’t taint them.

As for Frank, it’s a bit more complicated. Jamie is very close with his parents, while Frank already has a strained relationship with Snr (Patricia would have passed away by this point). So it’s less of a punch to the gut like it is for Jamie and more just like a dropping feeling of his already low expectations plummeting even further. Kind of like that feeling when you don’t like someone from the get go and you don’t know why, and then they do something atrocious and you have a reason to hate them.

I don’t think Jamie and Frank’s relationship would suffer much though. It would be a little awkward for a while but only because of the identity crisis that comes with finding out that someone you thought was your cousin your whole life is actually your biological half-brother.

The Great Values Divide

I was prepared to write a second post about so-called         “strongman” regimes when I was struck by what I see as a  values crisis in American society.  It feels to me that a profound shift has occurred in parts of our country that is influencing the political choices that people are making at this time.  

It is also true for me that the word “values” has taken on new meaning in recent years. It is now central to the therapy that I practice, something that I see as the core of our identity and all meaningful change.  My definition of values has been informed by Russ Harris a leader in the field of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and is something that I have incorporated into the therapy that I now practice:

 “Values are words that describe how we want to behave in this moment and on an ongoing basis…values are your heart’s deepest desires for how you want to behave - how you want to treat yourself, others, and the world around you.” (ACT Made Simple)

 If we were to look at some of the currents and rifts in our nation as merely “political differences” we may be missing the larger picture. To me, the divide that I have been reflecting on has to do with core values - the values that underpin our beliefs and the moral compass by which we live our lives and navigate the world.  When I speak about a values divide I am referring specifically to the gap between my own and my circle of family and friend’s moral worldview and those who are supporters of Donald Trump - both the MAGA Republicans and even the less committed who will still decide to vote for him in the 2024 presidential election. It remains shocking to me that the MAGA movement’s precepts and actions are so counter to our country’s foundational  beliefs about right and wrong, good and evil and how the categories of people who we refer to as “others” should be treated.  The fact that there are those still willing to go along and even embrace what we have all witnessed but are obviously interpreting differently, remains to me a moral stain on our society.  The notion that those who stand on my side of the divide may feel “burned out” or have become inured to what they have been witnessing is unsettling to me.

There have been a number of political rationales put forth about why roughly half of the electorate in this country is sticking with Donald Trump and are poised to vote for him this November, willing to make him our president for a second time.  One of the more prominent theories has to do with the marginalization of the small town and rural, white working class in the United States.  The theory holds that those who have lost jobs, power and status resent the more affluent, liberal, cosmopolitan elites who they believe look down on them. 

This group may rightfully feel abandoned by the Democratic Party which has done little to empower working people in this country during the last half century and who they may see as representing the mostly urban underclass of disenfranchised people of color.  But these are two groups that politicians have opportunistically played against each other since the Civil War.  A divisive tribalism has emerged along with a knee-jerk response of being against anything the other side is for, but it is Trump’s willingness to exploit and demonize “the other side” with hate filled messages  - that of being “your retribution,” that continues to polarize.  This has ignited and fueled an underlying current of white grievance.   By turning his vitriolic rhetoric against the mostly disenfranchised “others”  which includes immigrants, Muslims, urban Blacks, Mexicans, and Trans people, Trump has activated the kind of nativism that can divide the nation and mobilize his base.  

 Accepting that this theory has validity, the kind of venom that Trump has been spewing since his first campaign for the presidential nomination in 2015 is also highly personalized and particularly cruel. And this is where values again need to be reckoned with: Isn’t it a values issue that Trump’s cruelty has almost never been called out by members of his own party or its supporters, a party that includes not only rural whites but also women, educated professionals and people involved in both small and large businesses?  This is where what we often think of as a “political issue” is also what I see as a clash of values.  If we return to Russ Harris’s definition of values, let’s examine values as “how you want to treat yourself, others and the world around you,” as it applies to the behavior of Trump and his enablers:.  

I was recently reading a letter from Congresswoman Debbie Dingell on the editorial page of the New York Times in which she was relating what Trump had said about her husband John who had recently died.  Congresswoman Dingell had a decades long, deep and loving relationship with her husband who she said she misses every day.  But when she voted to impeach Trump, he turned on her and launched into a brutal emotional attack saying among other things that John Dingell was “looking up at her” -implying that he was now in hell.

MY QUESTIONS:   WHY IS THIS ACCEPTABLE? 

                                WHY IS THIS BEING TOLERATED?

                                WHY AREN'T STATEMENTS LIKE THIS DISQUALIFYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

It is important to note that this is just one example of Trump’s hate speech.  In September of 2020 he referred to John McCain, a former prisoner of war, maverick politician, Republican presidential nominee and to many an American hero, as a “loser.”  He’s done this repeatedly to respected members of the military and by deciding not to visit the military cemetery in Normandy - to Trump another group of “losers” who died in battle, Isn’t this kind of speech just another example of his unbridled cruelty and a disgraceful attack on others - something that Americans who have solid values should totally reject?  Isn’t being cruel but given a pass as a politician a practice that needs to be scrapped? What is even more outrageous and frightening about this is that the spewer of these vile statements is not only tolerated but is currently the leader of the Republican Party - someone who will receive somewhere in the range of seventy million votes if he is again nominated to be its presidential candidate, which is almost certain to occur.  

So, how does the Republican Party - the party that until recently cast itself as “THE FAMILY VALUES PARTY” stand up for its values?  It has continued to offer unwavering support for a leader who has….

..stated that he grabs women’s crotches just because he can get away with it (Access Hollywood Tape, 10/20/21) 

 ..been convicted of rape (Jean Carroll, May 2023)

.. been accused of sexual assault by 12 women.

..used campaign funds to illegally funnel hush money to cover  up an adulterous affair with a porn star.

..been willing to separate immigrant children from their parents at the border as a deterrence policy, (Yes, we all know that there is a crisis of immigration at the U.S. southern border but if we have values, humanitarian rules need still apply)

..been convicted of fraud by the state of New York in his business dealings and penalized in the amount of 354 million dollars  (February 16th)

..been impeached for trying to extort political favors from an American ally, Volodmyr Zelensky in exchange for much needed arms against an American enemy, Vladimir Putin  who Trump has expressed admiration for.

.. been indicted for asking Georgia’s attorney general Brad Raffensberger to find him 11,800 votes in an election that he lost by that margin and for participating in a racketeering conspiracy to overturn the election.

 ..been fact checked to have lied approximately 30,000 times while in office, including the “big lie” that he won the 2023 presidential election which was disproven in 62 lawsuits each showing that the election was fair. 

..been impeached for instigating and inciting insurrection against the United States based on his “big lie” with full knowledge that he lost the election and resulting in the deaths of four Capital police officers and significant injuries and trauma to others.

None of this is new information and no one - not even those who.are getting their news from Fox or some other conservative outlet can honestly say that they know nothing about Trump’s voluminous lies, violent statements, hate-filled rhetoric and demonizing of others.  Barack Obama was soundly criticized by Republicans for not wearing an American flag pin on his suit, Hillary Clinton investigated for having sensitive information on her private email server. Why is Trump getting a pass from this same constituency? Why does a politician who has been so transparently self-serving in so many of his actions still have any currency?

From a values perspective it is breathtaking that Americans continue to support and may re-elect a convicted rapist, admitted assaulter of women, convicted fraudster, political extortionist, pathological liar and insurrectionist.  Add to this, his cruel personal attacks, his admiration for dictators - known murderers of dissenters such as Putin’s murder of Alexei Navalny -  and his promise if elected to abandon our NATO allies and use “his” Justice department to exact revenge on his perceived “enemies,”  can any American still say that Trump is someone who embodies their personal values? 

I guess that it is possible for some who identify as Republicans to say that they agree with Trump’s “policies.”  But what are his policies?  The Republican Party did not even produce a party platform during the 2020 election leaving “policy making” open to Trump’s whims.  Party members and supporters actually do know where Trump  stands regarding race, rule of law and democracy, but to say that one likes his “policies” is deceptive -like saying that you are voting for Mussolini because of his transportation policy. If you are voting for Mussolini, an avowed fascist then transportation policy is not really what your vote is about. 

The most glaring contradictions and the most stunning hypocrisy around Trump and the issue of values is embodied in his support among  some of the largest and most influential Christian sects.  The Pentecostal-Charismatic movement is an ally of Trump’s  and an influencer that has clear ambitions for gaining  political power. But how does anyone calling himself or herself  a “Christian” square their support for Trump from a values perspective?  How much do you need to contort yourself to offer him your unwavering support and never call him out about his expressed hatred and immorality?  Even as Trump has been willing to appoint conservative Supreme Court justices, why wouldn’t that just be seen as transactional rather than resulting in your church deifying Trump as “the second coming?”  Wouldn’t it rather be a deal made with the devil that warrants shame?  And where do Jesus’s core tenets of, Do unto others.. love thy neighbor…welcome the stranger…and practice forgiveness fit into the kind of Trump worship that many Christians churches are involved in?

It is fair to ask me the question,” What are your values?”  since I have taken such a deep dive into what I see as the values divide in America, today.  In the area of, “how I want to treat others, myself and the world around me,” there are signs that I saw on the windows and gardens in Berkeley, California, that are a pretty good representation of where I stand.  The message on these signs stands at the intersection of morality and politics, something to strive to uphold in a world where so many people’s “shadow side”  seems to have overtaken their values:

I’m pretty sure that a large portion of people in the United States - many who will  be voting for Donald Trump in 2024 would detest this sign and would prefer instead to “own the Libs” or “make a liberal cry.”  But isn’t that just another machismo example of the values divide that I have been speaking about - one in which there actually is no moral equivalency between the different sides? And to the argument, “ Aren’t there some positive values  to be found in Donald Trump and his most ardent supporters?” I would have to say, there may be some positive side to eating arsenic but to date it has only been found to be a poison. This may just be the kind of  divide in which one side - the side that is continuing to support  Donald Trump - has truly gone off the rails.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom

If we’re talking consuming/creating fanart/fic/etc, I’ve been in and out of the sailor moon fandom since 2000/2001 (it wasn’t until much, much later I started interacting with a handful of fans). If we’re talking about interacting with other fans, then it would probably be Harry Potter (I’d estimate six years straight of active involvement? Haven’t been part of the fandom in a while though).

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)

TV shows. I love them all, but as someone who was an avid vidder from 2006-2014, tv shows gave me SO much to work with. I’m not sure I can describe the joy I experienced examining the tiny changes in facial expressions that MAKE a scene. Obviously you have that with movies too, but tv shows usually give you more room to play. And back when enough people watched tv live (rip), a major event happening and everyone losing it at the same time was an unmatched experience.

M - Say something genuinely nice about a ship that you don’t ship (or its shippers, or anything related to you)

This is going old school, but Brooke/Lucas (One Tree Hill) had great development in s2/3, as well as truly gorgeous, iconic scenes (rain scene in s3 in particular).

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)

I’ve been trying to figure out why this one is giving me so much trouble, only to realize it’s because my fave characters (and thus the ones I think about the most) are often women hated by a good portion of fandom, so I’ve spent most of my energy dying to defend their existence in actual canon. All of the HCs I can think of are pretty common and not particularly interesting? I’m embarrassed for myself honestly. I guess I’ll die insisting that Camelot’s golden age in Merlin didn’t happen until Arthur died, and Gwen was the one responsible for ushering it all in, but that feels half canon given how Merlin ended. 😬

SYNTHESIS

Perfect Now is not a fan favorite and I am so not here for that discourse, so please do not pester me with negativity about this chocolate drop of a song. 

As others have pointed out, the parallels with other songs written by Louis, Harry or for One Direction are extremely present. Especially Little Things is echoed loudly, but there’s so much more to be read, as you’ve seen. These are songs that are clearly near and dear to Louis, bc he wrote them or bc performing them was special, like with Little Things and What Makes You Beautiful. A lot of the same emotions come back in Louis’s writing, so much so that you can’t help but see the larger story behind it all. Throughout Walls you can hear him singing about not giving up and holding your head high despite hardships, and if you look back at his earlier writing, it’s always been there. Through the Dark is an early and striking example of this style of Louis song: you’re sad and i love you so much i will do anything to make that undone but while you’re sad know that i sill very much love you and you’re also strong enough to conquer all of this on your own but i’ll be by your side anyway 

basically through the dark’s chorus:

Oh, I will carry you over Fire and water for your love And I will hold you closer Hope your heart is strong enough When the night is coming down on you We will find a way Through the dark

It is very clear that Louis is faced with a partner - I can freely say it’s Harry now right? are the antis gone by now? i think so - that struggles with his body, with his identity, with how he wants to present himself vs how opinions on that might push him down and dampen his spirit. Louis, always the supportive boyfriend, then tries his best to make him see the light, while keeping that space for his sadness, his struggles, or their joint struggles. Accept the sadness but don’t lose your heart to it.

I’ve linked @bluewinnerangel​ ‘s post at the start of this post, but I need to stress how good it is once more as I also shamelessly insert a screenshot from it here bc it makes me feel a lot and summarizes perfectly just how deeply Perfect Now is woven into the history of their lives, relationship and especially “you”s/Harry’s personal struggle with their identity/body/confidence...

Because yes, i absolutely think these tattoos are being echoed in the song. “Never gonna dance again” as a lyric and then as a tattoo on Harry’s legs like shackles around his ankles represents the sensation of shame, of being stuck, bc of your desires, bc of your sexuality. Obviously we can never know why Harry got the tattoo, as in what experience pushed him to choose those lyrics or what exactly he recognizes in himself, but it’s safe to say it’s about the struggles of being queer and navigating relationships with that identity and with others.

Most importantly, the sense of shamelessly dancing, dancing like no one’s watching, dancing together with your lover, as a celebration of self, life, love, is the key here. Harry got that tattoo ages ago, at a time when he undoubtedly felt way more stuck. When he couldn’t dance freely the way he wanted to and with whom he wanted to. Perfect Now is a reminder to him, an encouragement to still dance if he wants to, no matter what people say or think. Significantly, then, Harry’s own Treat People With Kindness heavily features that same sentiment, but in an extremely positive light: i have found a place (in life and in myself) where i feel like i have given and was given second chances and now i dance bc i finally feel good in my skin.

Louis has obviously been there from the start, or at least from when or before Harry properly started experimenting with/questioning how he likes to present and how he identifies as. Before he ever dared to consider pulling on a pair of women’s skinny jeans, never mind a ball gown. Louis has seen him limit himself as well as being limited by others ofc and has always seemed to have been there, with a secure hand on Harry’s back, to encourage him. Even at a time when boys wearing nail polish or skirts was unthinkable. Just remember how much encouragement Harry needed when growing out his hair; Louis literally joined him. yes this might make me cry okay i need to stop bc i’m going off track and this is just becoming a larry breakdown while i was trying to hype up this beautiful song. 

What I’m trying to say is: Louis has always seen all of Harry. He’s always had his back, no matter what. He’s loved every part of him. And now, on a completely gender neutral album, in the sweetest, softest song off of the entire thing, Louis puts in the word “queen”, and that is so very deliberate it makes me want to scream. It’s Louis confirming his love again and again while affirming the multitudes contained by Harry, including everything involving his gender journey. brb crying

It’s a raw Louis, an honest, sweet, kind, loving partner, and both of them are fucking lucky to have each other, and I also wish that all of us end up in a caring and wholesome relationship like that. I truly do.

Going muggle clothes shopping with the Golden Trio Era boys would include...

so me and my babe @obsessedwithrandomthings noticed that our hp boys aren’t exactly the most fashion forward (sweater vests, paisley shirts, etc) and started talking about how it would be fun to go shopping with them for new clothes. and then these headcanons came about so we thought we’d share 😂

Fred, and you can fight me on this, immediately goes towards the underwear shops and either picks out things for you instead of him, or tries to put a bra on himself and prances around the store with it on

When you try and get him to actually shop for clothes for himself, he chooses the ugliest things on purpose, just so you feel inclined to tell him to sit down and wait for you, instead of him having to walk around after you

Would 110% go straight into Ann Summers and definitely ask you try on one of those slutty bunny costumes
