it's so hard for me to articulate how important james and remus ' friendship is to me. like those are my little dudes. remus can probably trust james more than anyone because he is so unfailingly kind and honest and firm in his morals that if there is anyone who can genuinely promise remus is worth it and definitely not a monster and be right, it's probably james. if there's anyone that would only give out gentle affection if they meant it, it's james (and james will take every possible opportunity to somehow drape himself over remus when remus looks like he will allow it).

and james can totally trust remus to be honest in his own right. he was probably the first person in james' life that ever called out his bullshit without making james feel less just because he has flaws. and remus is so picky with the people he trusts even when he's kind to everyone that every time he admits something hurts or he's tired or betrays any possible vulnerability james thinks the pride he feels for being worthy of hearing these things from remus is gonna make him explode.

and just imagine the laughs they'd share!! james is naturally hilarious in a very straightforward way, and remus' sarcasm has him gasping for breath because he's laughing so fucking hard even though he knows remus can be so impolite and fowl. and remus finds james grossly endearing and just so good it's impossible not to laugh with him. two pranking masterminds who also just admire each other so much. probably trust each other and want to make each other proud more than almost anyone. just. the definition of Best Friends, because sirius is something else, something more than just a best friend to james or to remus- a brother and a lover respectively, and yet more than words can describe for them both. but james and remus? they keep each other tethered to earth and yet never stop lifting the other up so they can take flight. they bring out the very very best nature in both of them. like my tummy literally hurts. they are both just constantly and insanely honoured that the other accepted their friendship and decided to trust so implicitly and without Ever judging harshly. like the sole proof that james chose remus and remus chose james means they are both good and worthy and ultimately something truly special, because how couldn't they be if the other chose them?

anyway. let me shut up cuz i could write a doctorate thesis on them. but pls consider my lil dudes. i have. SO many feelings!!! about them!!!!

james and sirius are so codependent, they kmow every single thing about eachother, they are so together all the time that it's concerning but it never concerns them. if they could, they would morph into one body and live as one person

James would literally never get sick so he was always the best caretaker in the marauders because he would legit just never get even so much as a cold

Remus on the other hand would constantly get sick whether it was just a runny nose and sore throat or a mild case of pneumonia he was forever sick

James would always take care of Remus whenever he became ill during their first year when remus was scared of being a bother James would single-handedly stay up making sure remus was ok

Remus would never forget it and would always try to help James out too, and even though James never got sick that boy was a clumsy wreck losing his glasses forgetting his books, if James wasn’t doing something for someone else he tended to be very bad at taking care of himself

It’s the 29th of June and the last evening in Hogwarts. Tomorrow everything will be too hectic, and without a moment to appreciate the place they would be leaving for the last time. But not now. James has the time now. To walk across the familiar halls, to expertly skip the step that’s broken at the Grand Staircase, to say hi to his favourite painting on the second floor, to watch how the Sun sets behind the castle for the last time.

He sits near the lake leaning against the tree. "The Marauders were here" is engraved on the truck of it. It’s their tree and always has been since the first year.

James watches the castle and it’s the most beautiful place he has ever seen. It’s his home. He grew up here, made mistakes and learned from them. He laughed and cried. He found his second family here- Sirius, Peter and Remus. People he couldn’t imagine his life without. He fell in love right at the astronomy tower that is towering in front of him.

Regulus was something he never expected to have. He came into his life and changed everything. And the walls of this castle will remember everything. Every promise whispered in the middle of the night, every long-coming admission of affection, every painful argument and teary apologies.

James watches the castle and it’s not just a building. Every part has a memory written in. He feels the tears break from his eyes, but they are not sad tears. The kind that blinds you and steals the breath from your lungs. These don’t burn. James is just so grateful for everything. For every moment he spent here.

He envies Regulus that he gets to spend another year here. He doesn’t want to be away from the boy, he wants to be here with him. But he knows that the time to move on came. Regulus will visit him at Hogsmeet, and they will talk through the mirror. But James has to let Regulus enjoy his final year here. And James? He has another chapter of his life in front of him. New experiences to gain, new memories to make. But this place. It made him who he is. The time he spent here will never be forgotten. Not a single moment. Always written in his soul.

Marauders fans I have an idea

Imagine James Potter noticing a pattern in Remus behavior : missing class once a month, spending some days in the infiarmery, being moody and particularly tired, eating a ton of chocolate...

All of that remind James of his Mom and so he though he discovered the secret of his friend.

Remus is trans, that's make sense, he probably don't want his classmates to know so unlike the girls he has access to the infiermary, plus he must be in huge discomfort because boys don't have their periods and Remus is a boy but he has periods. Keep in my mind that James is pretty young at this time, he knows about trans people thanks to his parents, but also knows that the wizarding world is not as open. He also doesn't know who he could trust, so he doesn't say anything nor to Sirius nor to Peter.

When the time comes once a month James is particularly careful with Remus, offering him chocolate, asking for the boys to be calm in the dorm the night before and the night when Remus come back, pretexting that him, the James Potter is tired, taking good notes in class for the missing boy ( even though Evans will lend him her notes )...

Remu notice of course, he doesn't know what to think, James isn't supposed to know about is wereabouts, so as much as he's grateful for his attention he's also scared. How James could have known in a few months, and still not say anything.

Lily Evans, the smartest witch of their generation, is having the time of her life watching James. How can he be so smart yet so wrong ? How this young boy coming from one of the oldest wizard family could have think of something so muggle ? She's eleven and watch Potter being the best of the friends, not telling anything to anyone, while doing a lot of thing to help Remu. He doesn't explain why, he tells no explanation and yet the other accept the routine and eventually follow his lead, sometimes it's time for jokes and sometimes for calm, it's a welcome break for every Gryffondor first year . Lily watch and find this cute and generous how he is that good of a friend for something he have absolutly no clues about.

Watching the interanl turmoil in James is very fun, until it isn't. Remus is more and more scared by his friend behavior, he's paranoid, what does James want, has he told anyone, what is he waiting for.

Lily seeing that James doesn't know how or what to ask to Remus in order to respect his privacy while Remus fear grows more and more decide to step in.

On one their afternoon tea she tell Remus, she knows he's a werewolf, she has knew for a very long time. James on the other hand misread the clues. She didn't ask for him to tell James about the truth, but he did.

Remus John Lupin is a Werewolf, and James Potter and Lily Evans are still his best friend.
