DUMBLEDORE RANTS
I've thought that witnessing Marauders fans blame all the deaths on Dumbledore is annoying enough, until I saw DRACO fans blame Dumbledore for all the wrong choices and stupid decisions that DRACO made HIMSELF????!!!
Tumblr media
That person said it was Albus's fault for ignoring Draco's issues, for turning a blind eye on whatever happened to Draco in HBP and only lend a helping hand at the end of HBP.
And I was like???? 😦😦😦🤡🤡🤡??? Seriously???? Can you use your brain? At that time of the story, Dumbledore was a leader of an army and he had a mf WAR to deal with, he had plans to complete and had many other people (children, women, men) to protect. He needed to find out what was happening between Harry and Voldemort and turned that information into something useful that could make his side win the war.
He was old as fuck and still had to worry about several things, he sacrificed himself to make a way for the other, for a ray of hope. He was weak, sick and injured after destroying a Horcrux and coming through all the things in that full-of-inferiors cave. Yet he still made an unsual effort to control the situation and did his best to save as many people as he could. And you still think that he had any free time to worry about some brats putting himself in a fucked up position?
I don't say that everything happened to Draco was all Draco's fault. I know he's just a spoiled child who became cocky, rude, selfish and rac*st because of the environment he grew up in and a secret desire to satisfy his parents's expectations. I know he isn't evil at all and didn't deserve all the bad things happened to him. BUT Draco wasn't the only one who was in danger. Every other students, other children were also facing the same war. Did you see what happened to Dean, Seamus, Nevellie and their families? Did you see what happened to other creatures like the elves and goblins? Did you see what happened to Order and Ministry members when Voldemort chased after them and tortured then killed them brutally? Dumbledore was losing HIS PEOPLE one by one, the war became very dangerous for his side and he couldn't hesitate anymore, he must do something, anything to make it better.
And despite all of those terrible things, Dumbledore still cared for you all precious Draco 😀. He had a plan for saving that boys soul, soothe him with warming advices while Draco's wand was still pointing at his neck. All the things he told Draco at the moment before his death are to make Draco not feel guilty about his actions. What else do you want Dumbledore do to help Draco? How else could Dumbledore help him if Draco rejected even his favourite teacher, the one he used to respect - Snape? Things happened to Draco wasn't only because of his fault, but it also was NOT DUMBLEDORE'S.
You think they would win the war without Dumbledore? You think your favourite character died because of him? Shut up you idiot 😊😊
I'm not even a Dumbledore defender, I know that old man also made mistakes in his life but I swear those ppls and their Dumbledore slander start being annoying as fuck. NOT EVERYTHING is his fault ok???? Urrggggg I'm going to get mad because of those ppls, they start losing their sanity for real 💀💀💀, they should be banned from social media for the peace of the world 🫂🫂🫂🤗🤗🤗

oh i just had the most cursed and yet hilarious dream about DSOTM that woke me up laughing
Harry and Dumbledore claim they have a blood relation to give Harry a bit of protection right - but what if the relation they claim is father and son???
Harry is, at first, against the idea, but Albus is like "nah nah this can work - ain't nobody who would fuck with my son, you can even take my name if you want?"
Harry say a polite fuck no to that but the papers for 'Harry Evans' are drawn up - Albus Dumbledore's recently discovered bastard child.
Everyone is shook, and Tom's crisis of attraction is even more fatal this time around because does he really want Dumbledore as a father-in-law?? but then Harry does something borderline impossible with magic and he just curls up into a ball because yes yes apparently he does.
The only two people who question it are Gellert and Aberforth. Gellert just pisses himself laughing at the mere idea and sends Albus a letter basically going lol nice try who is he really?
Which is at least more polite than Aberforth who took one look at Harry and said to his brother "no way youve ever touched a woman carnally - what's actually going on?"

i understand that dumbledore didn't think much of snape at the moment, but it really takes a cold person to hear someone wailing like a wounded animal and have such a callous response to their suicidal thoughts.
if you have been priviliged enough to not know what it sounds like when someone is literally howling in grief, it's about 100 times worse than you think.

Theseus and the Donkey Prank
*Newt stares at Tina.*
Newt: Theseus is a donkey?
Tina: *matter of factly* He has the ears of a donkey. And the voice. He's...braying.
*Newt tries to hide his amusement.*
Newt: He's...braying?
Tina: Yes.
*Newt tries to keep a straight face, but after a few seconds, he bursts out laughing.*
Tina: *trying to suppress a smile* It's not funny, Newt.
Newt: *attempting to compose himself* No. No, this is serious. Theseus has the ears of a donkey...and he's braying...
*Newt erupts in laughter.*
Tina: *amusedly* The poor man. He looked so pitiful.
*Newt chuckles for a bit.*
Newt: *composing himself* We should get him to McGonagall. She'll probably know how to fix this.
Tina: Who's McGonagall?
Newt: She's the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts.
Tina: Ah. Then, yes. That sounds good.
Tina: Wait, if we take him to her, other people that will be around will see him like this. I don't think he's going to agree to that.
Newt: *thinking* I'll have him go into my case and take my case with me. When we're alone with her, then I'll open it and he can come out.
Tina: Great.
*They head to the ministry and walk to Theseus's office.*
Newt: *grinning* You know, Travers, Theseus's superior, is an even bigger donkey than Theseus is. Yet, he's the one who turned Theseus into an actual donkey.
Tina: *chuckling* Well, technically it wasn't actually Travers that did this. It was that poltergeist from your school that caused an explosion and took over Travers's body while everyone else was distracted.
Newt: Haha, yes. But, still!
Tina: *agreeing* Still.
*Newt shakes his head and sighs.*
Newt: Peeves always did love playing pranks. I've never known of him to possess people to play pranks though.
Tina: First time for everything!
Newt: Yeah.
*After a few moments, Newt speaks again.*
Newt: Albus is going to love this. Well, him and McGonagall. But, Albus especially, considering Peeves took over Travers after Travers placed Admonitors on Albus.
Tina: *laughing* Albus got his payback: Peeves is in Travers's body and causing mayhem.
*Newt laughs with her.*
*Just then, Newt and Tina arrive at Theseus's office. They come into the room and find Theseus in the same spot Tina had found him earlier: on the floor and hidden behind his desk.*
*Newt tries not to smile, but fails miserably. Theseus glares at him which makes him burst out laughing. An annoyed expression replaces the glare on Theseus's face, and he looks off to the side. Newt sighs and shakes his head at his brother, Newt's smile a mix of sympathy and amusement.*
*Newt then explains the plan to Theseus, who begrudgingly brays his agreement to it.*
*Newt opens his case and looks at Theseus, waiting.*
*Theseus stays where he is for a few moments. Then, he tries to stand, but his legs immediately give out. He lands on the floor. Everyone looks confused, including him. Then, Theseus begins to realize how he was going to have to move. He makes a whining sound. Then, he slowly gets on all fours and makes his way over, his head held low, his face turning red from embarrassment.*
*When the older brother gets to the case, he stops, raises his head to look at Newt, and then lowers it and looks back down at the opened case. Theseus begins to whimper.*
Newt: *soothingly* It's alright.
*Newt, knowing how much Theseus likes physical affection, begins to pet one of Theseus's donkey ears.*
Newt: It's alright.
*Theseus closes his eyes. He leans his head against Newt's hand, letting himself feel the physical affection. After a few moments, a hint of a smile begins to etch its way across Theseus's face as Newt pets Theseus's donkey ear. Cooing sounds come from Theseus's throat. Newt smiles at him.*
*When Theseus looks a little better, Newt helps Theseus get into the case, and then Newt closes the case.*
Newt: *to Tina* Alright, let's go.

An essay on Harry James Potter's Abuse Symptoms:
The thing is, Harry has like 0% concept of danger. None. Nope. Zero. Nada. He doesn't have a healthy concept of danger AT ALL. And he shows this pretty much literally at the start of the book.
My friend actually pointed this out to me, but the fact that Harry saw a large man who literally broke the door and was like "I'm safe, this man is a friend" is pretty bad. Not to mention Hagrid is a stranger and literally broke into the house.
Another sign is how comfortable he is in going through the forbidden forest. Like that place is dangerous and full of magical creatures that have nearly killed Harry and yet he still walks calmly through it. Repeatedly.
Another sign is that Harry heard Lupin's story where he recounts Sirius literally trying to murder Snape and thought "Yep. This is the man that I want to be my guardian." Not to mention that Sirius attacked the Fat Lady...just because he was looking for Peter doesn't make that okay. Oh, and let's not forget that he (and Lupin) were going to murder Peter in front of thirteen year olds.
And Harry's obsession with going to Hogsmeade is like it's own post. But he's just going though secret passageways that no one knows about in an invisibility cloak with no one but his friends knowing where he is...that's a disaster in the making.
Almost no one knows he's there, so if he gets hurt there's no guarantee he'll get help (and it's likely that if Harry is overpowered so are Hermione and Ron) He's wearing his invisibility cloak, so no one can see him. Therefore it's unlikely anyone will see him if he's kidnapped. And if he's petrified or something under that cloak the only way he's gonna be found is if someone steps on him. And that cloak can cover his dead body. And the passageways are secret, and Sirius (whom they didn't know was innocent) knew about them-if Harry got abducted there no one would've known. Not to mention the fact that Sirius was going around...it's just so much risk (that even Hermione pointed out) that either Harry is being reckless or stupid or simply doesn't know the danger at all.
And not to mention Harry is not afraid of Sirius. There's a whole page where Harry wonders why he's not afraid. Dumbledore (does he not remember second year?). Dementors. And-I kid you not-he's defeated Voldemort thrice, he can take care of himself.
The fact that Harry still feels confident in Dumbledore's protecting the school despite Dumbledore proving multiple times that he has no regard for safety.
The fact that Harry still feels confident in Dumbledore keeping Hogwarts safe despite there being actual evidence that Dumbledore is not actually that great at keeping Hogwarts safe (first year quirrel, second year the basilisk, third year the dementors and sirius black, fourth year barty crouch and clear signs that someone's tampering with the competition to make sure Harry legaly dies, fifth year Umbridge, Sixth year the death eaters...)
No. Concept. Of. Danger. At. All.

If you're still doing the choose violence ask game: 2 (👀), 9, 10, 22 ?
I got such a rush from finally answering the first ask that I'm doing this for as long as people send me questions. So here we go again!
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
anon, I'm at work. I'm seeing this at work. :'D
Okay, serious face. Albus Dumbledore is probably my fave if I have to choose between him and Harry on this blog. I just have to figure out why he would never...
Bottom. Albus would never, I'm sorry. He won't. He can't. Like, maybe when he was having his whirlwind summer romance with Gellert, he bottomed every single time they fucked because he was so in love and this was his equal and his partner and so what if he was a little rough and distant sometimes in the bedroom, and always wanted to top and tug his hair and hiss out orders? This was The Man The Universe Had Crafted For Him, and he would absolutely bottom for him every time... and then the summer of 1899 ends. And Ariana dies. And Aberforth breaks Albus' nose. And Gellert fucks off to go be a fascist.
And Albus, alone and heartbroken, resolves to never trust someone that completely again, never love someone that same way, and never let anyone get into a position of power over him where they might be able to use his knowledge and talents for ill. That means physically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically... carnally. So he has sex with plenty of other people, and even falls in love with a few of them, but he is in control at all times. He never bottoms again.
That's all I've got for that one.
9. worst part of canon
So the first answer that came to mind is posted here, but for fairness' sake I'll try to come up with another worst thing. (That's not related to ships, because I'm trying really hard not to be THAT violent on the violence ask game.)
I think... that if That Woman was going to introduce international schools, students and characters in the middle book of the series, she should have done more with them than having them vanish after Goblet of Fire, only to come back for either fake romantic tension and one line of exposition about the Hitler allegory Dark Lord of the Before-Times (Krum, Deathly Hallows) or to be married off to a Weasley for an aesop of It's Not About His Looks Now That They're Jacked Up (Fleur, Half-Blood Prince). I'm not saying Fleur and Viktor HAD to be best buddies forever with Harry, but it is weird that they have this unique bond that no other young students have had with each other in hundreds of years, they even lost one of their fellow champions, Dumbledore gives this very moving speech about remaining connected and not letting darkness and prejudice sever new ties, and then... nothing. No side adventures in France or wherever Durmstrang is, no communication from either side, nothing.
Feels like a huge letdown in hindsight.
10. worst part of fanon
Oh, no. That's not fair. There's just so many.
If I had to consolidate what I currently don't like about the HP fandom/fanon into a few lines, I think I would say that I hate the pureblood/Dark side apologism. I do believe in nuance in characters. I do believe redemption and/or walking different paths is an important theme in Harry Potter, and I think it's fascinating to explore that with any and every character you can think of, even characters I may not personally like. But I really, really hate the way the fandom has taken that and twisted it into this idea that we were sold a lie at the start: that the British magical government was fine the way it was, and so was the society around it; that Dark magic Isn't All That Bad, Really, and there are actually Good and non-prejudiced things about a few rich bitches passing down their knowledge and secrets and slurs for generations within the Family, and keeping the Family "Pure" is cool actually, and none of this has any relation to real life ideas about miscegenation and classism and racism and eugenics, what are you talking about?
It's just so worrying. As a minority, when I see people on tumblr/twitter/AO3 gleefully agreeing that we need to eat the rich and fix society and eradicate all the horrid -isms and -archys ruining all our lives, then watch them turn around and write a 200k epic where Dumbledore was the evil one for locking the Horcrux books away and championing marginalized members of society, Hermione is just uppity for wanting to make necessary changes to the darker parts of magical society that That Woman was literally pointing out for a reason, and Tom Riddle is only bad because he took the good segregationist pureblood ideas and added murder to them... and when that fic gets thousands of comments agreeing with them full stop with no examination of any of that... it makes me anxious, at a minimum. The same thing is happening now with Grindelwald now that he's actually a figure on the screen and not just some dude mentioned a few times in the book series: same apologism, same justification of atrocities, same good-guy-blame-games, same blorbofication even.
On the one hand... fiction doesn't always directly reflect or affect reality. On the other... this unironic pro-pureblood meta is a pervasive concept that has popped up in thousands of fics written by thousands of fanfic writers. It's happened for years, and it keeps happening, and I see very few fans speaking out against it or even acknowledging it as a problem. So that makes me ask myself, who actually is willing and able to examine the injustices of our society and build a better imaginary society through the lens of HP fanfiction, and who's okay with the prejudice in the HP world as long as it's coming from the faves they're attracted to?
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
Happily, this is a harder question to answer because I've been finding so many like minds in the past 5 years who go feral over the same 20 HP scenes as I do. ^^ But give me a sec, I'll think of something.
...
Okay. Got it.
In order to answer this question, I have to go back to the first time I, young teenager, avid reader, recent reader of the HP series once book 5 was out, realized that Harry and Dumbledore had a much deeper relationship than just headmaster and student. The thing that made me latch on to them and project like crazy, basically.
It's the scene in Goblet of Fire chapter 36 where Harry has been rescued from Fake Moody and he's in Dumbledore's office with Dumbledore and Sirius. Dumbledore asks Harry to relay everything that happened to him once he touched the Portkey in the maze—and immediately Sirius tries to protect Harry from having to relive it now, so soon after it's happened. And then this scene happens.
Dumbledore stopped talking. He sat down opposite Harry, behind his desk. He was looking at Harry, who avoided his eyes. Dumbledore was going to question him. He was going to make Harry relive everything. “I need to know what happened after you touched the Portkey in the maze, Harry,” said Dumbledore. “We can leave that till morning, can’t we, Dumbledore?” said Sirius harshly. He had put a hand on Harry’s shoulder. “Let him have a sleep. Let him rest.” Harry felt a rush of gratitude toward Sirius, but Dumbledore took no notice of Sirius’s words. He leaned forward toward Harry. Very unwillingly, Harry raised his head and looked into those blue eyes. “If I thought I could help you,” Dumbledore said gently, “by putting you into an enchanted sleep and allowing you to postpone the moment when you would have to think about what has happened tonight, I would do it. But I know better. Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it. You have shown bravery beyond anything I could have expected of you. I ask you to demonstrate your courage one more time. I ask you to tell us what happened.” The phoenix let out one soft, quavering note. It shivered in the air, and Harry felt as though a drop of hot liquid had slipped down his throat into his stomach, warming him, and strengthening him. He took a deep breath and began to tell them. As he spoke, visions of everything that had passed that night seemed to rise before his eyes; he saw the sparkling surface of the potion that had revived Voldemort; he saw the Death Eaters Apparating between the graves around them; he saw Cedric’s body, lying on the ground beside the cup. Once or twice, Sirius made a noise as though about to say something, his hand still tight on Harry’s shoulder, but Dumbledore raised his hand to stop him, and Harry was glad of this, because it was easier to keep going now he had started. It was even a relief; he felt almost as though something poisonous were being extracted from him. It was costing him every bit of determination he had to keep talking, yet he sensed that once he had finished, he would feel better.
This is one of the best scenes in the entire book, the entire series. It completely refutes the fanon Dumbledore who is often cold, cruel, inflexible and unrelenting in his quest for whatever the author wants him to be inflexible and cruel about at the time. It shows that Dumbledore, the real Albus Dumbledore, is one of the few people who understands what Harry needs and is able to provide it to him, even when others who also care for Harry would rather protect him or shield him from what he needs.
Kid me was particularly taken by how gentle Dumbledore is with Harry here. It made me look back and see how in some ways this scene, this closeness, is the culmination of all the times they've met and spoken before.
(You can imagine how painful it was reading Order of the Phoenix right after this.)
But yeah, that's probably one of my favorite scenes that other people ignore or haven't talked about/drawn/written about much. Which is ironic, because the scene right after that where Harry talks about Voldemort taking his blood and Dumbledore's eyes do the triumphant "lol Voldemort just fucked up" gleam is probably one of THE most talked-about scenes in the fandom (even though to this fucking day in 2023 people still don't realize what the gleam meant, when even That Woman has clarified what it meant in INTERVIEWS).
...And for me, safely at the end of the questions, that's all she wrote.
#fireandgoldposts#thanks for the ask!#choose violence ask game#Albus Dumbledore#not y'all making me put more gr*ndeld*re on this blog :') I forgive you tho#it's my own fault for having that headcanon. and to think I didn't think I'd be able to answer that question#I'm poking a real bear by finally talking about how much I hate the pureblood politics/pureblood supremacy/misunderstood bad guys trifecta#another thing that was perhaps interesting 20 years ago when people first started doing it but is now stale and infuriating#since it's now seen as fact and not fiction#the fiction of fiction even#I can't believe I didn't just write ''the worst part of fanon is every independent!Harry/manipulative!Dumbledore fanfic ever written#that's growth for me#oh god the worst part about no expanded roles for Fleur and Krum is that most fans only give Fleur an extended role#when they're SHIPPING HER WITH HARRY as some kind of ''ooh foreign beauty'' thing where he naturally resists her allure#and oh my god here comes the nausea again because flowerpot is another ship that's been done to death the very same way haphne/wolfstar has#and I love Krum/Hermione as much as the next person but fanon Krum is like NEVER allowed to move on from Hermione unless he's gay/bi#which is VERY rare to see. like please give me Harry/Krum fanfic recs if you have them#or Ron/Krum because that is so narratively satisfying#honorable mention for question 22 would probably go to the scene where Hermione and Ron try to get Harry to go to Dumbledore in year 5#after they find out what Umbridge is doing to him in detention and Harry just. CAN'T. properly explain why he doesn't want to go#but he's thinking about how Dumbledore has ''ignored him since last June'' and it's one of the few times we see him acknowledge that hurts#he mentions it several times throughout the book in his thoughts but that's one of the first times he refuses help from Albus#even though Albus would help him in a heartbeat oh my GOD it's been like 20 years since that book came out and I'm still feral about those#Goblet of Fire#Fleur Delacour#Viktor Krum#pureblood propaganda#and how much I am anti-that lmao#not fireandgold#oh my god having to reformat this every 3 hours because the bolds and italics won't stick is a fucking NIGHTMARE

ron/hermione/the weasleys/etc bashing of any sort is always so extremely boring and repetitive to me in harry potter fanfic omg like no instead of dissecting and examining these flawed and interesting characters in an intriguing and/or different light u decide to stoop to turning then into shallow, barely fleshed out characters 😭😭😭😭😭😭 and 9 out of 10 times it’s so harry can be some OP, dark, usually slytherin, badass like no i’m sorry i can’t

Gandalf will always be superior to Dumbledore because Gandalf thought it be a lark to trick his friend into finally getting out of the house and doing something and Dumbledore was like “what if I carefully orchestrated this boy’s life to be so miserable that he’d willingly become a martyr to defeat wizard Hitler?”

TBH I think there’s a difference between being okay with negative consequences and actually masterminding those things to happen. One of the things I find most interesting about Dumbledore is how often he falls under the first category (since fandom often seems to put him in the second).
Dumbledore is more aware than most characters that this world is a dangerous one and there are consequences for one’s actions. I’d argue that most of his “manipulation” is less “you must endure XYZ because it is a step in my masterplan” and more “I’m aiming for this very specific endgame and if you have decided to join me, these are the risks and I’m sorry but you might endure them because that’s the cost of the plan. Are you still with me?”
So no, I really don’t see him as sending Snape to his death any more than any of the Order members who died for the cause, like say, Moody. As far as I know, he only plans three deaths: his own, Harry’s, and Voldemort’s, with Voldemort’s death being his endgame. Being willing to let others die for your plan is different than actually purposefully sending someone to their death because it furthers your plan.
(re: the manipulation post, I’m mostly interested in the buy-in, because people don’t seem to defect after joining up except for the one case of Wormtail, who never seems to have bought in in the first place, though granted we don’t actually have much info on that. Like, how do people come to be loyal to Dumbledore and his interpretation of what’s right? There are no factions in the resistance or competing versions of “how do we resist,” which is kinda laughable, all things considered.
The most obvious explanation is unfortunately Doylist (HP is not a very good depiction of resistance movements because the author didn’t really study how they work, and the black hats/white hats mentality is so strong that it’s never really in question if Dumbledore is “good,” just if he’s actually benevolent or not) and when it boils down to it, I don’t think Dumbledore is all that effectively written as a person who wins over hearts because it’s mostly done with “haha cool whimsical fun guy that Fights Bullies and also Wizard Evils.”
I think (as written) people ally with Dumbledore against Voldemort et. al., not because of anything Dumbledore actually does (except for being powerful, competent, and intimidating, I guess), but because he’s written as the only alternative to Voldemort. Literally. Everyone else is too incompetent to resist Voldemort, or they’re 100% loyal to Dumbledore because he’s a Good Guy who’s the Only One Powerful and Smart Enough to Save Us and would never dream of having a different idea of how things should be done).

this was in the tags of my dumbledore should be in jail post but I seriously need answers so: why and how is hagrid teaching a magical gcse on super dangerous animals that can kill u when he literally never did said magical gcses himself. if we consider the fact that he was expelled in the middle of third year, this means he only finished his schooling up to second year. how is it in anyway legal for a man who legally only has the knowledge equivalent to a magical year 8 to be teaching a class. like yes he’s a nice man and yes he may have some expertise on the subject bc he has a special interest, but that is not the same thing as having some sort of degree. like me personally if I was a seventh year I would prefer if the guy who was teaching me my magical alevel/ib to have actually done the magical alevel/ib (at the bare minimum to have done the magical gcse). see this wouldn’t be an issue if dumbledore idk sent him back to school somewhere else instead of going hey child wanna work here which is um. child labour which is also illegal and another reason why dumbledore should be in jail tbh. anyway makes zero sense esp bc gcses r literally mandatory in the uk like. I don’t care if it’s stupid fucking fantasy land with thousands of plot holes she’s world building off the real world and should therefore consider real world implications when writing in stupid things.

@mastcrmiind for Dumbledore (Post Event so feel free to just save this to the side)
Fawkes stood frozen at seeing the other. He. . .he died. Fawkes knew Dumbledore died, breaking their bond. Doesn't mean his death hurt any less. . .and seeing the other opened old wounds. "D-dumbledore ? Master is that you ? It's me. It's Fawkes." Since he's human now. . .would he still be the other's messenger ? Or is he free to pursue his own ventures as a human ?
