2018 - Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Oh-oh my gosh it's freakin' YN YLN," Liza Koshy grunts excitedly at the sight of the former One Direction star walking up the carpeted steps. "Nothing can drag her down, she looks so amazing. You look absolutely beautiful!" Liza Koshy gushes as YN walks up to her first interview section of the night.
"'fank you! You look gorgeous, babe," She compliments back as she adjusts herself to show off her beautiful gown.
"The angels above are singing right now and you're a singing angel yourself. And how fitting that your album is titled Only Angel because you certainly are one tonight," YN grips onto Liza's hand and scrunches up her nose as she giggles at how many compliments the young woman is throwing out at her.
"Stop, please don't make me laugh, I can't breathe in this corset," The two women laugh and YN has to put a hand on her tummy to help control her breathing.
"You look fantastic, girl. Please tell us about your look."
"So I'm wearing Vera Wang tonight. It is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. It's the last judgment scene where Christ decides who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell."
"This is your first Met Gala, how are you feeling tonight?" Liza gives a warm smile.
"I feel amazing. I feel excited. I can't really believe that I'm here. I feel like m'at a very expensive prom," YN smiles brightly as she looks around at all the well-dressed guests.
"Will you save me a dance later then?"
"Oh, absolutely!"
"And lastly, do you have anything you want to confess?" The interviewer humorously wiggles her eyebrows.
"Umm, I feel like I have to pee a little bit. M'kinda hungry, to be honest," YN lists with a laugh, the woman next to her following suit.
"Well, if you need help in the bathroom with all that dress you let me know. Girl, I got you," The pop star thanks her over a laugh. "Well you look phenomenal," Liza shakes her head in disbelief one more time. "Have a good night tonight."
"You as well. I'll see yeh on the dance floor!" YN calls over her shoulder with a wave of her hand as she's escorted away.
2019 - Camp: Notes on Fashion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"...baby you light up the Met like nobody else. How are you doing, Mister Harry Styles?"
After some initial questions, Liza asks the tongue twister question, "You are a style icon for so many, who's Harry Styles's style icon?"
"Erm, this lovely lady over here," Harry smiles warmly once he sees the woman in question make her way up the pink stars. He's quickly going over to her, taking her hand in his and helping her up the rest of the way.
"Ms. YN YLN! Oh my gosh!"
"Liza! How are yeh, babe?" YN giddily shuffles her way over to give the fun interviewer a hug the best she can over her outfit.
"I'm good, I'm good. I'm like a hummingbird perched on a flower bush!" Liza makes a bird cooing sound and it makes the couple laugh. "You look so stunning. Please tell me about your look."
"So I'm wearing Gucci today and this piece is called The Girl In Bloom. It was designed and made by my good friend, Emma Evans who has been me stylist since I first started my career."
"Please tell me, how does this outfit speak to you and to Camp?"
"Well, I think Camp is about being genuine and being yourself," YN nods her head, her gloved-covered hands moving in front of her as she speaks. "I'm sharing some of my story through this piece in how I grew up in the music industry: on a personal level, a musical level, and so on. So I started in this industry as a young girl and now I'm blossoming into something more. Fashion is supposed to be fun and expressive and I think this outfit showcases that for me tonight."
While YN explains her outfit, the camera picks up the way he's fondly smiling at his secret girlfriend. He's in awe at her words and how she chooses to express herself. It's a bit surreal that both of them are in attendance tonight, a very public and well-known event where they are free to hang out, talk about fashion and just have a good time. It's a proud moment for the both of them for sure.
"Ooo m'am you have such a way with words you sound so majestic," Liza playfully fans herself. "So we all know that the two of you are very familiar with one another-"
"This guy? I just met this bloke tonight," YN jokes and it makes Harry tilts his chin down to his chest as he chuckles. "I thought he was only helping me up the steps. I dunno know this guy at all."
She gives his wrist a squeeze with a cheeky smile and Harry doesn't think twice about placing his hand protectively on the bottom of her back--a part in the video that fans keep replaying over and over again.
"Yeah, I don't know either. Who is this guy?" Liza dramatically teases. "With both of you two here tonight, how excited are you guys to be here?"
"I feel very excited," Harry starts and looks at his former band member with a fond smile. "Events like this seem like a once in a lifetime opportunity so it's nice to be here with a friend."
"Alright guys, have a great rest of your night!"
"You as well, thank you," And with that, Harry extends an arm for YN to grab onto as they walk inside the grand hall.
When Liza turns back to the camera, she suddenly sucks in a dramatic breath, " I feel like I can breathe again."
The After Party:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After playing host for the majority of the night and being released from his Co-Chair duties, Harry takes YN up to the DJ platform to have some much-needed fun.
The short video clip of the three of them up there shows the fans how hammered the two of them have gotten.
As Mark Ronson remixes Rolling In The Deep, YN and Harry dance behind him. While gripping onto each others hands, they sway themselves to the rhythm of the music. She sways her hips with her eyes closed and when Harry lets her go, the back of her hands brush up along the nape of her neck, up the side of her face and in the air.
When Mark switches it up to The 900 Number, the two friends look at each other with wide eyes and excited smiles.
Harry reaches out to grip her shoulders as he drunkenly yells to her over the loud music, "Oh, fuck!" All the while, YN's face scrunches up in a tipsy giggle and she grips onto his forearms.
The video clip ends as Harry tugs her closer to him, throwing an arm around the tops of her shoulders as they turn their backs to the camera.

I'm trying to get into comics, any recommendations?
I'm a DC girl so this list is gonna be very DC heavy, sorry.
DC
All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely: The book that made me a Superman fan. Beautiful, joyful, self-contained story.
The Flash by Mark Waid: Will make you a Flash fan. Some of the first comics I ever read come from this run. The original run is collected in omnibus format but Mark had a second, shorter run from around 98-2000 that wrapped up a lot of loose ends, and another one around 2008. Those are good too.
The New Teen Titans by Marv Wolfman and George Perez: This book probably saved DC, and it's a wonderful read.
Batman by Scott Snyder: One of the best modern Batman runs, although it suffers from the stink of the New 52 at times.
52 by Mark Waid, Greg Rucka, Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns, and Keith Giffen: Might need some onboarding for this one but it's a great read focusing on some of the second-string characters in the DCU and a triumph of collaborative storytelling. Its spinoff Booster Gold series is great too.
Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross: A surprisingly-accessible refutation of the 1990s trend towards darker and edgier superheroes, it's a must-read for the beautiful painted artwork alone.
Mister Miracle and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, both by Tom King: Tom King's had some big misses, especially Heroes in Crisis, for which as a Wally West fan I should want his blood. He makes up for it when he hits, though. These two titles are his best work.
Secret Six by Gail Simone: A great off-beat title revolving around a small group of supervillains trying to do good. Wish they'd bring this concept back tbh.
DC: The New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke: A love letter to the Silver Age of Comics with gorgeous artwork. Was later adapted into an animated film, which is also very good.
Dwayne McDuffie's original Milestone Comics (incl. Icon, Hardware, and Static), are all very good titles focusing specifically on Black heroes. McDuffie also had a great run on Justice League of America from 2007 to 2009.
Justice League International by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire: A great and hilarious book that offers a much more lighthearted take on the DC Universe. There's a lot of focus on more obscure and minor characters which I always enjoy.
Doom Patrol by Grant Morrison and Rachel Pollock: If you've seen the TV show, it cribs heavily from this. A lovely series featuring a group of misfits trying to find their way in the world.
Jack Kirby's Fourth World: Brilliant, esoteric, at times close to incomprehensible. A must-read.
The Question by Dennis O'Neil: A wonderfully cerebral and philosophical series. Denny left reading recs in every issue! See also his run on Green Lantern/Green Arrow, which is a bit outdated but still electrifyingly political for its time, and his seminal run on the Batman titles.
Marvel
Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont: One of the greatest comic book runs of all time. Largely defined the X-Men for several generations basically until the Krakoa era. Most X-Men stories on the "greatest of all time" list come from this run.
Vision by Tom King: Hey, it's Tom King again! He wrote for Marvel too. This one's a really good character piece featuring a character who often doesn't get to stand on his own.
Daredevil by Mark Waid: The best Daredevil run, hands down.
The Amazing Spider-Man by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko: The original Spider-Man run is still my favorite. Some great Silver Age nonsense combined with great character drama is what put Marvel on the map, and it's on full display here.
Runaways by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona: A really good series that's mostly self-contained about a bunch of kids who run away from home after discovering that their parents are supervillains.
Fantastic Four by Mark Waid and Mike Wieringo: I sing Waid's praises a lot, but damn can he write. The best run for Marvel's First Family.
Others
Bone by Jeff Smith: An epic fantasy adventure starring three cartoon funny animal characters. My favorite comic of all time.
Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai: Another epic starring funny animals, this time set in the Edo period of Japan. Mostly episodic, so it's really easy to jump into.
Astro City by Kurt Buseik: Another love letter to the Silver Age, and to superheroes in general. Essential reading.

If you had to write a Spider-Man x DC crossover fic, how would you do it? Plop Peter in the middle of one of the iconic DC cities because of multiversal shenanigans, or would you blend things together so that Spidey would feel like a natural part of the DC setting?
Would Spidey remain a NYC-bound hero, or would he be slinging webs elsewhere?
Well to preface my answer, I need to reiterate that the primary advantage Marvel has had over DC from the start is being able to position itself as a response/deconstruction to whatever DC's putting out. DC started back in the 1930's and Marvel really only emerged as something recognizably similar to the Marvel we know today in the 1960's when Stan Lee joined the team. DC was shaped by WW2 and Baby Boom/Cold War Era patriotism, while Marvel emerged at the beginning of multiple massive counterculture movements and a superhero genre on the decline. Basically compare the Justice Society of America being conscripted to fight a domestic fascist threat during WW2, happily hooking arms and shaking hands and congratulating each other all the while, with the Fantastic Four, a loving but squabbling family who get their powers by pure cosmic accident and are now juggling their newfound powers with their still-flawed relationships and now supervillain threats.
This is also why Spider-Man, who in my eyes is very much the heart and soul of the Marvel universe is, in himself, a deconstruction of Superman. He's vulnerable where Superman is invulnerable, he can swing a web but he's very much subject to gravity, he's lean and scrappy rather than musclebound, he has to continually contort himself in the air and to his environment to get around rather than just smashing through it, and his characterization is very much based in the inherent instability of adolescence whereas Superman is positioned as this very stable, moral presence. Right off the bat Spider-Man is defined by a mistake, by his selfishness resulting in the death of his Uncle Ben, and he's later further defined by the death of Gwen Stacy, which is also Marvel saying to DC, "Hey it's not just monster of the week over here, our characters can grow and change and DIE." So like... even though I definitely put myself in the DC camp more than the Marvel camp, I can absolutely see Marvel's appeal.
As far as putting Spider-Man into the DC universe goes, honestly that would depend on what my overall goals for the fic would be. If it's just a silly "ooh what if Spidey met ________?" then Pete's probably getting isekai'd, but--and okay this might be cheating because it's Jack Kirby, haha--I'd be interested in seeing NYC-based Spidey basically getting hit with the Fourth World saga. He's just a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and he did not ask for a fucking SPACE THEOMACHY dropped into his lap! So it would be less of dropping Spider-Man into the DC universe and more of taking a massive chunk of the DC universe and making it Spidey's problem. And then he and Mister Miracle can be fwiends and Orion can pick him by the neck so he makes a squeaky toy noise and Barda can hold him in her big strong arms and he can dangle behind Lightray by a web going "Wheeeeee." Also I think him interacting with the Forever People would be hilarious as well. Spider-Man is not equipped to deal with invading Apokoliptian forces but then a bunch of Space Hippies show up and just fucking Voltron together into a Huge Guy and Spidey's just like, "I've met some polycules in my life, but this is ridiculous!" but probably something more clever and Spidey-ish.
Mostly I'd be interested in seeing this because of the aforementioned argument of Spider-Man as a deconstruction of Superman. While Kirby initially wrote the Fourth World saga as its own almost standalone/spin-offy thing within the DC universe, Darkseid quickly became recognized as a part of Superman's Rogue's gallery in the greater pop culture eye--largely thanks to Superman: TAS. Like, yeah, a lot of the time Darkseid is positioned as the big cosmic threat to the Justice League as a whole, but it's Superman who usually ends up in the solo rounds with the guy.
Tumblr media
I feel like this way Spider-Man would basically be positioned as the guy who ultimately has to help the New Gods acclimate to earth and this way the whole massive Apokolips/New Genesis cast Kirby set up in the Fourth World saga wouldn't end up scooted off to the side in favor of the Justice League, which is basically what happened to them in the overall popular reception of DC. Spider-Man would need Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Lightray, Orion, and the Forever People's help in defending New York from Darkseid and his goons, and they, in turn, would need Spider-Man's help in understanding life on Earth.
Spider-Man: Behold! The Bacon Egg and Cheese!
The Forever People: *awed* Ooooohhhh
I feel like it also works because The Fourth World Saga was Jack Kirby's way of incorporating a shit-ton of counter-culture into mainline DC really really quickly, so you already kind of have this meshing of DC and Marvel vibes.

All Characters Confirmed to Appear in The Fantastic Four (2025)
The Fantastic Four Team (Main Characters/Protagonists)
(Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm / Human Torch, & Ben Grimm / The Thing)
Tumblr media
Galan / Galactus (Main Villain/Antagonist)
Tumblr media
Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer II
Tumblr media
H.E.R.B.I.E.
Tumblr media
These are the characters that are confirmed to be in the film so far. As for other characters appearing in the film, I know it’s been rumored that Reed and Sue’s children Franklin and Valeria are gonna be in the film, with Franklin rumored to be having an important role and Valeria not having much of a presence. It’s rumored that Franklin will have a connection to Galactus and that Galactus will be searching for him throughout the cosmos. I guess Marvel is taking inspiration from the Earth X storyline, where Franklin becomes a powerful cosmic being, resurrects Galactus, makes him his herald, then kills him, and becomes the new Galactus. This is probably the reason why Galactus is hunting down Franklin. He’s probably seeing a future that he can foresee or a future that he’s been told that’s what’s going to happen. Galactus is probably gonna hunt him down so that he can prevent Franklin from becoming the new Galactus, just like from the comic book storyline, or it could be something else entirely. Also, it’s rumored that Franklin will suit up and join the F4 team, which I hope doesn’t turn out to be true. Again, these are all just rumors that’s been going on for a while, so we just have to take this in grain of salt territory. If it does end up being true or somewhat true, I hope it doesn’t take the story away from the 4 main characters as the story is supposed to focus on the Fantastic Four themselves, not Franklin. The film is called the Fantastic Four, not Franklin and Friends.
It’s rumored that Norrin Radd, the original Silver Surfer will make an appearance in the film. Since that the Shalla-Bal version will appear and have a major role in the film, Norrin Radd will most likely have a small part or a cameo, then will have a much bigger role in the future. As for others, we know that Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne have joined the cast, but their characters are being kept under wraps. The best guesses on who they could be playing go from Mole Man to H.E.R.B.I.E., Franklin Storm to Puppet Master, Alicia Masters to Frankie Raye, etc. We don’t have an actor for H.E.R.B.I.E. yet (who’s confirmed to be the film) and while it could be any of these actors, I doubt it’s any of the 3. These are all just pure speculation at this point, but we’ll have to wait and see as we get closer to filming and for any further announcements.
As for Doctor Doom, as much as I hate to say it, I don’t think he’s going to be in the film. If he does, he’ll most likely only end up in a cameo, probably in a post credit scene as what the rumor has been said for him. I think Marvel has special plans for Doom in the future as it’s rumored they may use him as one of the villains for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, but that’s just speculation at this point. I think Doom will be saved is for potential future sequels so that Marvel can adapt him the right way. However, that all depends on how this Fantastic Four film does. So fingers crossed that the Fantastic Four does well and that Doctor Doom will be adapted into the MCU the right way as he’s supposed to be. Not like the previous films that we got of him. Doctor Doom is a very popular and beloved supervillain, so he needs to be done right.
Overall, I’m very excited for Marvel’s First Family to be back on the big screen next year, this time under Marvel Studios’ banner and I hope Marvel does right by the Fantastic Four and gives them the justice they deserve. I have my concerns because of the reputation it’s had with its previous iterations of the iconic team and with some of the recent Marvel projects, but I have faith that Marvel Studios will learn from their mistakes, get their things together, and do the right thing with all their upcoming projects, especially the Fantastic Four. Hopefully the film does very well and becomes a huge success. It needs it and it deserves it. Can’t wait!!! 4️⃣🔵⚪️🔴🟠

5 DC Animes I want to see after My Adventures with Superman
Tumblr media
My Adventures with Superman opened the door for DC in a big way. Not only did it revitalize fans for more Superman content ahead of Superman: Legacy, but quickly put Jack Quaid up there in the conversation for best portrayal of Superman.
While that conversation is yet to be determined, I think the fact that this version of Superman connected with people made one thing clear, people are hungry for more quality animation.
Tumblr media
While I am excited at the potential of more Jack Quaid Superman, I think DC would be kicking themselves if they didn't branch out this universe and try to build to something greater.
I have 5 pitches for characters who I think should get a My Adventures with Superman style show, ideas of who could play them, and what they could bring to this already fantastic universe. Also I gave them all fun titles. Enjoy.
5. Mysteries of the Question
Tumblr media
The Question is a character many know from the hit DC show Justice League Unlimited. A wack job with a theory about who is pulling all the strings in the DC Universe, The Question is a ridiculously fun character I'm surprised hasn't been seen in a while.
Putting the Question at the center of a mystery and having to solve cases day to day would make for classic television, all while setting it in a crazy DC world.
Tumblr media
The cop chasing him could be the 2nd Question: Renee Montoya, and the mystery could be something as big as an incoming alien invasion or as small as who is leaving riddles across Gotham? Hell he could be after Amanda Waller.
Tumblr media
He can run into other detectives like Detective Chimp, Martian Manhunter, even the Batman, and through this side character we introduce half the Justice League.
I'd love a comedian like Charlie Day to voice this mad man, but a good friend of mine brought up Will Arnett and I can't unhear it. The role could be overly dramatic and silly, but can go to the sad levels of Bojack Horseman. He'd be perfect for this universe.
Tumblr media
Having a detective who needs to get the a major story out could lead him to our three favorite journalists, making a fun mini crossover imminent.
Tumblr media
4. Strange Tales from Arkham Asylum
Tumblr media
While What If? Is not my favorite MCU project, the premise itself is quite fun. A narrator telling warped tales of stories we know in a freshing new take.
I'd like to take that concept and add it to DC by exploring Batman's Rogues Gallery in one off, anthology episodes narrated by one Hugo Strange.
Fan favorite characters like Clayface, Mister Freeze, Catwoman, and yes, even The Joker, can be introduced via their backstory with exciting different voice actors, all leading to a breakout in Arkham.
Tumblr media
I'd like this to serve as a partial retelling but also reimagining of new characters with an emphasis on the creepy, the macabre, but also the sympathy. I want this to fix the mistakes of past villains in My Adventures with Superman and make them more 3 dimensional and iconic.
For Strange we need a maniacal evil voice who can narrate and keep us captivated. I like Chiwetel Ejiofor for this, and will be happy for the inmates to take him down by the end.
Tumblr media
3. Evil-Doers fear the Wrath of Wonder Woman
Tumblr media
I'm having fun with these titles.
It is incredibly insane we do not have a definitive Wonder Woman show. I'd like a classic Spectacular Spider-Man or My Adventures with Superman style show centered around ya girl Wonder Woman.
Tumblr media
Ares, Giganta, or Cheetah can be the main villain. Hell make her main antagonist Black Adam, but having a magical god character immediately makes the world bigger and the threats greater.
Tumblr media
She can run into Shazam (due to their god powers) and round out the League more, but really this is just a project that should already exist. It's wild it doesn't.
Since it is voice acting and we can go any which way with it, I love the voice of Ming Na-Wen. Having a powerful Disney Princess playing Diana also feels appropriate, and brings a sort of wisdom to the League.
Tumblr media
2. Blue Beetle Back in School
Tumblr media
Blue Beetle in a character basically built for anime.
With the overall critic and audience reviews being positive but the film underperforming, it's clear Blue Beetle has an audience that can steadily grow over time. I think animation is a great way to softly continue the story without it technically being in continuity.
The story should center around Jaime continuing college post getting the scarab, and meeting young heroes like himself along the way all while trying to having a normal life. Classic superhero stuff.
This leaves room for it to be part of any universe you want it to be, or mostly be true, or not at all. Either way, we grow with the character of Blue Beetle, and await his return in the DCU.
This could be a fun way to flesh out the young heroes of the DC universe: Robin, Raven, Cyborg, etc.
Tumblr media
It could also start a fun trend of Xolo playing the character across mediums. It's clear Xolo Maridueña loves the character, and if the voice fits, why change it? If Mark Hamill can play the Trickster across animation and live action, so can Xolo.
Tumblr media
1. Green Lantern: Cosmic Chronicles
Tumblr media
The character done most dirty since his live action debut, Green Lantern could add dynamic interesting fighting to an anime universe. Take Atom Eve from Invincible and her spin-off episode.
Tumblr media
Using that type of animation and fluid fight choreography would make for excellent television.
Although we already have a fantastic Green Lantern show (Green Lantern the animated series) with an excellent narrative, I think introducing more Lanterns and wider universe of DC aliens could be really fun. Martians, Thanagarians, Lobo, Mongul, etc all trying to be contained by Lanterns but failing horribly would be awesome. It could all leading to an alien invasion on Earth, putting them directly in line with Superman.
Tumblr media
A Green Lantern show could rejuvenate faith in Lanterns before its release, and lead up to the big anime crossover we know we all need.
While I'd love to see all Lanterns, I think having Hal Jordan at the center of it and bringing in others down the line is a good way to go.
Alan Ritchson has played Aquaman, Hawk and even Raphael in Ninja Turtles. A little more hard headed Jordan could be fun to pit against Jack Quaids more hopeful Superman.
Tumblr media
While all these shows should get made, I think Lanterns is the most likely. Honestly, I'd be happy to see anything more in the DC Anime Universe.

Mister Miracle (2017)
The story within it is far more complex than you would normally see with a minor/less popular character. It's deep and thoughtful, the visuals are fantastic and whilst it has obvious flaws (the one dimensional portrayal of Orion and Lightray) it's still arguably one of the better reads.
The Flash (1987)
A perfect run, plain and simple. It established so much of the Flash lore that we know and love, and it introduced some of the most iconic Flashfamily members! Most importantly, it cemented Wally West as *my* Flash, and has so many of my favorite Flash stories of all time, like Terminal Velocity! It’s just…perfect. No one writes Wally like Mark Waid.

"Alien"
After a while of working on this picture and trying to figure out how I want it to look, it's finally finished. I wanted to create my own version of #AlienPerfume campaign with a classic Thierry Mugler vintage touch to it.
I remember the first time I got my hands on this fragrance. Everything about it spoke to me: from the intricate design of the bottle to the mysterious notes. Every time I would put it on, I would immediately feel transformed. Every time I'd leave my apartment, I would imagined myself walking down the runway wearing the most iconic pieces Thierry Mugler ever created.
Mister Mugler influenced most of my work in so many ways. He really knew how to put up a fantastic show. All the drama and eccentric silhouettes. And even though he's gone, his legacy will live on forever.

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 3
So my previous two posts where mainly about the introduction of Marvels first family the Fantastic Four. This is the third instalment of the Fantastic Four. We get a few cool updates in this issue like the introduction of the Fantasticar. As well as the debut of the Fantastic Fours Iconic suits. We also get a interesting look into the Fantastic Fours building of operations. Anyway let's begin with the story shall we.
Tumblr media
This issue starts with the Fantastic Four watching a magic show, with the villain of the issue being the magician himself. This being the Miracle Man ( Joshua Ayers ). He challenges the Thing in a test of strength in which he ends up besting the Thing. Which upsets the Thing to where he begins to throw punches at the Miracle Man.
Miracle Man then decides that is time for him to begin his reign of terror on the public by giving life to a giant statue known as The Monster from Mars.
Around this time our fabulous foursome debut their new outfits. I'll be honest I'm not the biggest fan of them, they're essentially blue jumpsuits with a big four plastered in the center of them. Honestly I prefer the outfits that add white to the costume. Though I will say I like The Things costume with his helmet that he wears only briefly. I also enjoy that he just tears the shirt off and ends up in pants, although later it does become shorts. All in all I prefer the Things costume, and Johnny's costume, since he flames on you don't see it much.
Tumblr media
The next new addition that we get is the Fantasticar. Which I really like this first design, though many viewers said it looked like a flying bathtub. I just really like it.
Tumblr media
We also get a look at the Fantastic Fours secret headquarters. Boy do they have everything in it. I actually really like a lot of the attention to detail that the writers use to explain many things that I'm sure readers would have questions about. Also this building will later be known as the Baxter Building.
Anyway back to our story. The Fantastic Four set out to stop the Miracle Man. It mainly ends in a car chase where Mister Fantastic turns himself into a wheel, which I really find enjoyable. Once they catch him Reed states that the Miracle Man had no magic and was just a master at mass hypnotism, and illusions, though he learns this after realizing the Sue was hypnotized by the Miracle Man. So yet another villain is carted off to prison and our heroic team celebrates their third victory. Well until Johnny decides that he's splitting from the team, I guess that's a problem for the next issue. Also it is sad that the team has only lasted three issues before a member has decided to leave.
I don't mind this comic really it's decent, I wish the Miracle Man actually had magic. Though this was before Marvel decided to delve into the more magical aspect of their universe. I would give this issue probably a seven. Because I really do like that the team has finally gotten their super suits, even if I'm not the biggest fan of the design. I also really like the introduction of the Fantasticar, all hail the flying bathtub. I also enjoy the in depth look of the Baxter Building.
Alright now on to my rankings of our Main Characters and our Miraculous Antagonist. See what I did there.
Tumblr media
Mister Fantastic, I've actually really enjoyed him in this issue, he was a very integral part on stopping the Miracle Man. I also really liked his ingenuity in turning himself into a tire so they could chase down their target. He also figures out the Miracle Man's actual abilities. So yeah I really like him in this one.
Tumblr media
Sadly once again Sue doesn't do much. She does track the Miracle Man down, but then she is instantly captured and is turned into the damsel in distress. She also designs the teams first outfits. Ben's is my favorite but I dont think he was the biggest fan of his new uniform.
Tumblr media
I didn't really like Johnny in this issue. He just comes off as a bratty awful teen, and he's really annoying. I get that him picking on the Thing all the time is one of his gimmicks, but it's already pretty old. He's just like that annoying sibling or cousin. Needless to say though he does serve an important part in stopping our villain.
Tumblr media
Ah the Thing, still my absolute favorite, never change buddy. Every panel he is in I enjoy. I love his goofy helmet he wears for literally two panels, and that he doesn't like wearing his shirt. All winners for me. The Thing right now is my soul reason for reading these, Ben Grimm I love ya.
Tumblr media
Boy do I really like this villain. He is the evil mustache twirling villain that has plagued many a 90s TV shows, and he predates them I love a visionary. I do really like how absurd this villain is, they could've made it easy and said, "oh yeah he really uses magic." No they took a risk they made him an illusionist and a master of hypnosis. He definitely takes my number one spot out of the villains we have met.
Alright that looks like that's it for this post, next time we'll see if Johnny will rejoin the Fantastic Four. Spoiler I think he will.

Gobbledygook (ao3) - kjstark steve/bucky G, 3k
Summary: Peter didn’t think it’d turn into a thing. Not an active thing, at least. With ten months well into the compound and his so-called training (after a few very awkward first months as Mister Stark and the Captain slowly made peace again and his team of “rogues”, as Peter had begun calling it, were welcomed in), Peter was already adjusted to being the only kid around. Well—him and technically Vision, but the robot doesn’t really count.
So, it starts off as breezy as breathing.
How Peter Parker met Shuri (ao3) - Georgiah G, 394
Summary: Basically how Peter and Shuri Met

B-52's - s/t
Is there anything more sincere, unfettered by societal norms, and relentlessly fun that the B-52's debut album? So much of the lyricism is extremely esoteric, almost certainly in jokes between the band members. The album makes no effort to explain and it's better to just lose yourself in the nonsense. Like what the fuck is Planet Claire about? Who cares? There's a moon in the sky and it's called the moon! Analyze that! Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson have the most iconic vocals of all time. Pierson has like a million octave range and Schneider's uh wikipedia calls it sprechgesang which is very funny to me, but his delivery is so beloved that I don't think anyone can resist giving it a go from time to time. The album is a manic daze the music bounces around stuck between hyper modern (for the time) new wave and deeply anachronistic 50s and 60s throwbacks like the surf rock on the monster hit Rock Lobster. Unfettered, unhinged, this album is pure and perfect camp.
Tumblr media
The Beatles - Meet The Beatles
Why on earth would you choose the US version instead of the obviously superior UK release? Listen I'll compromise by listening to the three songs from Meet that aren't on With but then I'm just going to listen to With The Beatles because fuck you I like their covers. Their version of Please Mister Postman is great and so is their Money (That's What I Want). With The Beatles is basically just a slightly more polished and more consistent take on the sound of their first album. I think they fell off a bit with A Hard Days Night too so the inclusion of more covers and more rock and roll style shit is exactly what I want. Basically fuck the haters early Beatles is camp I like it.
Tumblr media
Robyn - Body Talk
A lot of people really vibe with this kind of glossy candy-coated pop but all I hear is a lot of thumping with little meaningful artistic direction. The least interesting parts of Ke$ha and Lady Gaga distilled into a slurry of commercially viable pop music whose sole redeeming feature is a handful of good beats.
Tumblr media
Leonard Cohen - Songs Of Leonard Cohen
Already an established poet by the time he decided to pick up the guitar it could be argued that Leonard Cohen was a little too literate to be a successful musician. His debut definitely gives that impression, although his evocative language and simple but effective guitar work definitely won over listeners in the end. Suzanne, the first track from his first album was his largest hit until hallelujah in the 80s and I think that's largely because it has a melody that you can hum. To me the best of it is when Cohen is allowed to just sing and play guitar with little to no embellishment. The lyricism is the main draw after all. The songs of isolation, of lovers having to say goodbye, of people lost in a large world. Cohen is a masterful songwriter but certainly a perpetual downer and might scan as pretentious to some. This is one of those albums that fantastic within it's niche but might not be for everyone.
Tumblr media
Michael Jackson - Bad
Man I know Thriller is gonna be like super high on this list but Bad is absolutely my favorite Michael Jackson record. It's just banger after banger. The hits alone are bonkers Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man In The Mirror, Smooth Criminal. But oh man the deep cuts are great too, in fact Speed Demon might be my favorite just for that goofy little synth bass run. The album is just bubblier and sillier than his previous work. It's extremely 80s with synths everywhere never trying to hide from what it is. There is simply no way to avoided bopping along to the whole album, it's just so goddamn enjoyable.

Meet Cyclops's New Nemesis, Doctor Stasis!
Tumblr media
Doctor Stasis is the overarching antagonist for the first year of Gerry Duggan and Pepe Larraz's X-Men. Doctor Stasis is a member of the anti-mutant organization Orchis with a penchant for macabre genetic experiments. He is also Nathaniel Essex, but he is not Mister Sinister. He is a different Nathaniel Essex. Doctor Stasis is the first of three additional Essexs to be revealed. All of whom are represented by their own French suit, the kind you find in a deck of playing cards.
Tumblr media
The backstory behind the various Essexs is as follows. In the late 19th century, Doctor Nathaniel Essex envisioned four routes to triumph over machine dominance. Those routes were as follows: The Cosmic Powers, Post-Humanity, Magic, and Mutants. For these four routes, he created four clones, each marked by a French suit on their foreheads. In Essex’s eyes, the clones were in competition, survival of the fittest. The winner he hoped would allow him to ascend to godhood.
Doctor Stasis is the clone with the suit of clubs on his forehead. He is the route of Post-Humanity. Stasis believes in artificially improving human bodies through genetic experiments. Stasis views the rise of Krakoa and mutants as a threat to humanity and his long-term goal of immortality. In his mind, Mutants are a cancer that must be excised from the earth if humanity is ever to ascend.
Tumblr media
In the first year of Duggan's X-Men, Doctor Stasis plans on exposing the secret of mutant resurrection. He wants the X-Men to attempt to suppress the story so Orchis can reveal that mutants took action against the freedom of the press, turning public sentiment against Mutantdom.
Part of Doctor Stasis’s plan was to kill and collect a sample from Cyclops and run tests to see if it was a clone or if the mutants had truly conquered death. Once Cyclops was resurrected, he and fellow X-Men Synch hunted down Stasis where they learned he was actually a version of Nathanial Essex. Even though Stasis escaped, his plans were still foiled when Cyclops revealed the truth of mutant resurrection to reporter Ben Urich instead of suppressing the story as Stasis had hoped.
Doctor Stasis has the potential to be a nemesis for Cyclops. Mister Sinister has long haunted the Summers bloodline but recently expanded beyond that to greater machinations. Doctor Stasis is representative of a specter that has haunted Scott Summers his entire life.
Stasis’s angle of Post-Humanity is a novel take on Sinister. Mister Sinister views Mutants as tools to be used in his grand design. However, Doctor Stasis is repulsed by Mutants and is disgusted at the idea of them existing on the same planet as him. Sinister wants to use Mutants, Doctor Stasis wants to eradicate Mutants.
Another thing Doctor Stasis has going for him is his design. Pepe Larraz is one of the most talented artists working in comics today. Larraz has created so many instantly iconic designs, Doctor Stasis among them. I'd also like to note that Stasis has a cane sword. You can never go wrong with a cane sword.
Doctor Stasis is a fantastic new addition to the X-Men’s rogues gallery. He has a killer design and a great narrative hook. He is an antagonist for Cyclops that harkens back to the character's past. Doctor Stasis is ripe with potential and represents an exciting development for the franchise.
