Mara: a multigender person who subverts masculinity and femininity in a distinctly multigender and queer way. Maras reject cisnormative ideas of what it means to be masculine and feminine while rejecting binary concepts of gender. Functionally a combination of vole/rat and hare.
Flag design: Cool purple chosen for being adjacent to blue, the color typically associated with masculinity, while still subverting that expectation via having other elements as well. In the case of purple, having red as well. Similarly with the warm purple, but for femininity instead. Yellow is a neutral color associated with self-confidence. If I may confess something, that is a guinea pig paw print. I couldn't find any pictures of mara prints, so I took one from their relative.
Tagging @radiomogai, @blood-moon-night-coining for being the coiner of vole and hare, and @presentation-labels.

i think the easiest way to sum up my frustrations with discussions of feminism on this site, even in trans circles, is that vanishingly few of these discussions are prepared to handle the existence of people who are both men and women, and so we're ignored entirely

Unicorn:
A presentation term for queer people wearing pastels and/or white with some rainbow pastels OR a queer person with labels like xenogenders or complex identifies that other queer people make fun of, MAYBE specifically mocking it like "uwu I'm a (blank complex identity) and I'm so valid, uwu x 100" (yes that is a way people make that)
Maybe both, with people with complex identities wearing pastels.

Reasons for why I chose what I did below cut!
Daffodil matched the maverique colors, simple as that.
Amaranthus tricolor and pink witch aeonium both have plants with similar colors to the flags from their respective terms. Pink witch aeonium also had a succulent chosen to represent ‘like-plants’, similar to coral below! (And, in hindsight, is a good way to depict aporine being an umbrella term.)
Morning glories have a mysterious and otherworldy vibe that remind me of kenochoric, and the purple matches beautifully.
Coral is, in my mind, ‘like a plant, but not in a plant way’. It seems like a plant, but is, well, made of animals! Reminded me of how xevetrine is ‘gender, but not in a human way’.
Passionflowers look alien but are just as much a plant as other plants- like being nonhuman. And they look stunning.
Love in a mist symbolizes perplexity.
And bouquet (or garland) is meant to be a whole bunch of flowers, which you hold dear or wear with pride! I would have settled on just bouquet, but I offered a second name as bouquet is already used by a term I quite like, (which apparently rwuffles also made?!), and I didn’t want to overshadow it! :)
These were made to match the style of the original flags. Definitely not my normal style but i think they work :D

hey can we please get more normal about masculine women. can we stop calling middle school girls who prefer masculine clothes or don't like make-up "pick me"s. can we stop acting like any healthy expression of masculinity from a girl is automatically internalized misogyny.
and while we're at it, can we stop acting like all girls understand each other. can we stop acting like all girls feel comfortable in women's spaces.
i want and need everyone to understand that when you say "girls who don't wear make-up are just looking for male validation", you're not just hurting girls who are actually doing that, you're also hurting girls who can't afford make-up, girls who can't wear make-up because of sensory issues, and girls who don't wear make-up just because they don't want to.
i completely get wanting to call out women who put other women down for male validation, and i encourage doing it when you see it actually being done, but attaching that stereotype onto a specific gender expression is harmful.

It must be such a sad existence to function under the assumption that pronouns and presentation always equals gender. It's such a closeminded view on the world that I can't help but pity the people who think that way. 'He/him=man! Masc=man!' It's just another way to enforce binary expectations of gender💀
Anyways, masc he/him non-binary people and women aren't necessarily men, trans & cis men who use she/her aren't necessarily women, etc etc.

Marlo also interviewed Meredith Lee/Derek Moo who identifies as "dual gender." They have been out publicly for six years, and in "various semi-private spaces" for up to 20 years. "I pretty much live openly as either presentation, and it seems to work. I go to work as either Meredith or Derek. My kids are fine, my kids are almost adults. All of my family knows, all of my relatives know," they say. "The software company I work for has been pretty proactive in terms of the whole diversity and inclusion thing. I was the first openly trans person in the company, to my knowledge. "When I first presented as Merri, it was at one of the Christmas parties, which is the classic way to do it, right? Might as well wear a dress to the party!"
from this article about trans and gender-diverse elders in Australia. I just love hearing about older multigender people so much <3

disappointing to see another wave of forcibly binarising nonbinary experiences again. like i don’t want to assume bad faith i don’t think people are doing it on purpose but any examination of nonbinary experiences that equates us to trans men or trans womens experiences based on perception is inevitably going to misgender and misunderstand a large portion of our lives. even transmasc and transfem nonbinary people often don’t experience the exact same thing as binary trans people and can have a mix of experiences that might seem contradictory to binary trans people, and a large amount of nonbinary people do not fall into that binary. a lot of us are agender, or multigender, or third gender, or a million other combinations that don’t fit neatly into transmasc or transfem frameworks. defining transness as transitioning towards masculinity or femininity, reducing it to transitioning when a lot of us literally have no way to transition socially or physically outside of the bare minimum bc our bodies and identity are seen as aberrant and therefore we're denied the ability to transition at all, forcing people to exist as masc or fem, having to choose one whether they feel like they’re both neither or something else that doesn’t fit with that, all of this effectively denies a large amount of nonbinary people transness at All. it’s a slightly more subtle way of excluding us but it inherently denies us our gender identity, either forcibly assigning onto us labels that are inaccurate and misgendering or directly calling us lying fakers. like it directly feels like a return to transmed shit where we're either forced to constantly misgender ourselves and present ourselves in ways that make us miserable to be counted as trans at all or hated for being lying fakers who are just hysterical women (regardless of Anything in our lives, be it our gender or assigned sex) who want to be special.
