Short Story: The Big Chop

Summary:

Iffy has been wanting to do something about her chemical damaged hair for ages, now. Every time she decides to cut it and go natural, she always backs down, afraid of what other people might say.

Not this time. From now on she's only going to look like what she wants to look like.

A short story that takes place after The Succession of Us.

Iffy’s hands gripped tight on the vanity counter as she stared herself down in the mirror. Around her were all the products she used to straighten and tame her hair, to make it more palatable to the people she worked for, to fit in, to be treated better at school. She was sick of it. She frowned and turned her head this way and that, running her fingers through coarse, damaged hair. GerBear and D were right. It was time for the Big Chop. With a deep breath and one last squeeze on the counter, she picked up her phone and sent out a carbon copied message. Hey guys. I’m ready. You coming over?

What if literally the only reason Yenekh got sick was because Oltyx was sick and he didn't want him to suffer alone 😭 It's like he said in Reign, 'our kind seeks company, always'. Yenekh didn't even need the endgame revelations about the Flayer Virus to feel that way, no one did, pretty much everyone who'd laid oculars upon Oltyx read him for what he was. Imagine Yenekh realizing he's changed for the first time, the sheer terror and confusion he must've felt before Mentep's wisdom held him over. Slowly understanding, as time passed, that all that was happening here was that one heart had found another... and this knowledge doing literally nothing for Yenekh's anxieties, because he knew Oltyx didn't know and wasn't willing to understand. Adoring Oltyx to the point of metamorphosis, adjusting his very sense of self to Oltyx's presence, knowing that Oltyx would willingly sentence him to one million years dungeon catacombs ghostwind for being what he was. Love is a powerful, powerful feeling, such a strange and perilous yet radically transformative thing

ok but i'm in my feels about connor again. like i physically cannot bear to think about what losing this chance might feel like for him. i know it's game one but i can't bear it. i cant. i don't want it to be like it was with ovi, where it took so long for him to get one at all. i want them to win this so bad. for him. for every haunted and disappointed moment hes suffered on the bench or on the ice or anywhere at all. i know the panthers have also had that heartbreak but connor means something more to me. this whole team does. i don't even want to imagine the weight losing in the finals would put on his shoulders

It’s been exactly one year since the season 7 finale of Legends which means by now Sara and Ava have a baby, Nate and Zari have been living together in the totem for a year, Spooner came out over a year ago, Behrad and Astra have been in a relationship for over a year, Gideon and Gary have been together for over a year, and (I hope) that they have escaped prison and rescued Alun so that he and Gwyn can be happy together and everyone can get back to causing shenanigans while traveling through time. Sara was right, time really is weird, huh?

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year, I miss all these dumbass time travelers so much and would do anything to have them on my screen again!

Iffy didn’t realize the razor had turned off until a big hand gently petted the top of her now bare head. She flinched. “Is it bad?” she asked in a wobbly voice. Nate moved his hand from her head to her cheek, and with his other hand signed, “You’re beautiful.” She turned to D, who was standing proudly with his hands on his hips, and GerBear, who was grinning brightly. “I know this is gonna sound weird,” D said, “but you have a really nice skull.” Iffy snorted. “What?” “You do!” D flapped his hands around for a few seconds, as if trying to whack the words he was looking for out of the air. “I just mean. When I shaved my head, there were divots and stuff. But you don’t have that. Your skin is so smooth and pretty.” A smirk pulled at Iffy’s mouth, and D threw his hands in the air. “Fine, don’t take my awesome compliment! Your skull is stupid! Is that better?”

I underestimated the herculean efforts that animators put into making things because this thirty second clip took so much out of my feeble illustrator hands. Anyway here you go! I added a few details that might make things fun I think

‘Thank you, Nate, that’s really helpful.’ ‘I’m broken, aren’t I?’ ‘No,’ Temsen said gently, with a smile. ‘But I think this goes some way to explaining something that Janusz has suspected, and that I think might be happening right now. You don’t feel very bonded to Janusz at the moment, do you? Not even as a friend?’ Nate swallowed thickly and then shrugged. ‘There are some omegas in the world who are a bit different to other omegas. We’ve had them at Hillview before, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you if it turns out this is the case. You can think of being an omega like a spectrum from those who are very docile and obedient, to those that are creative and quite strong-willed. That’s all within the scope of what it is to be an omega. We already know you like poetry, which suggests a creative mind.’ Nate’s breathing came faster, and he inched away from Janusz without even thinking about it, and then froze. God. What was he doing? What was he doing? ‘It’s all right, Nate,’ Janusz said. ‘You’ve done nothing wrong.’ Nate sure didn’t feel like that was true. ‘In these cases,’ Temsen continued, ‘an omega at the more independent end of the spectrum can prematurely create a level of bond we only see with alpha claimings otherwise. Let’s theorise that you’re not just bonded to Christian, but that you’ve gone further and are responding like he’s already claimed you. In those circumstances, we sometimes see a rare phenomenon known as a spontaneous repudiation. That’s a fancy term for an omega biologically shutting down to the idea of bonding with another alpha, and it goes beyond…being resistant – because it’s normal to be resistant – into something that feels quite catastrophic. It’s very painful, Nate.’
