What I Ship Because I’ve Been Semi-Vague
I talk about shipping a lot, but since I talk about whatever’s popular over what I actually like (this may or may not change), you might not know what I actually ship. Or you do because you stalked me or read the few fanfictions that I posted here and will probably move because it’s weird to have fanfics on a mostly commentary focused blog.
Regardless, for anyone who’s interested, here’s what I actually do like. Also, just to make sure that all of my credibility goes down the toilet, all accept one (maybe two) of these is a crackship.
The Ships I Sold My Soul To
These are the ships I like the most. Yes, I’ve already imagined AUs with them and I’ve given them all children. I promise I have a thought process that makes sense (to me) behind them all. However, I don’t want to turn this into a 100,000 word essay, so I’ll try to summarize what I like about them in 1-2 (potentially run-on) sentences. Just know, there’s more to all of these.
NejiNaru (Neji Hyuga x Naruto Uzumaki) - Both characters had their lives decided/changed at birth against their will, but walked out of it with vastly different perspectives. This combined with them having complimentary personalities makes me think that they could have very positive impacts on each other’s lives if they were given just a bit more time to get invested in each other.
GaaSaku (Gaara x Sakura Haruno) - Both characters would greatly benefit from having (emotional) support in a relationship and both characters are deathly loyal to a fault. They also both need and have different perspectives that they wouldn’t hesitate in sharing with each other.
SasuIno (Sasuke Uchiha x Ino Yamanaka) - Both are highly confident, independent people who wouldn’t take shit from each other (which is important when both absolutely pull some shit). They’re also loyal to anyone who earns it, are very driven, don’t stand for people getting hurt unjustly, care deeply for their clans and clan traditions, and roll their eyes at their friends’ shenanigans despite everyone knowing that they’d both kill and die for them.
ChouTen (Chouji Akimichi x TenTen) - They are similar in the best ways and different where it counts. TenTen would motivate Chouji to work harder then complain with him about how hard it is to work hard and Chouji would absolutely help her have more faith in ninjas being able to become great with hard work alone.
ShikaKiba (Shikamaru Nara x Kiba Inuzuka) - Like Sasuke and Ino, they come across as very different on the outside but have a lot of similarities when you dig a little deeper. Along with them being good to have in each other’s lives, each other’s families would also be good influences on them (Shikamaru would benefit from being around very expressive and strong female role models, and Kiba would benefit from being around patient people with higher IQs).
TemaHina (Temari x Hinata Hyuga) - They could relate with each other when it comes to growing up as the older sisters trained to be weapons since birth overlooked in favor of their very talented younger siblings with physically absent moms and emotionally absent, abusive fathers that are not only skilled ninja but also hold great social-political power, but they could still offer each other different perspectives. Temari could help Hinata gain more confidence and stand up for herself while Hinata can help Temari learn how to approach situations with kindness rather than the anger/violence that’s been taught to her.
ShinoLee (Shino Aburame x Rock Lee) - These two are so fucking different and they cover each other’s blind spots so fucking well. Rock Lee is very passionate and memorable, but he doesn’t realize he can rely on others (seriously, he does everything alone) while Shino doesn’t have direction and is insecure about not sticking out, but he’s characterized as being very aware of the importance of teamwork, even when it’s with people outside of team 8.
KakuDei (Kakuzu x Deidara) - Both characters value respect and strength, are able to keep a clear mind even when their short tempers get the better of them, and are deceptively intelligent. Kakuzu could also benefit from taking more risks and Deidara could benefit from keeping his head on the ground, both of which the other could force help them to do.
ItaHida (Itachi Uchiha x Hidan) - Both of them are so devoted to their beliefs that it’s actually a problem (they both only think inside the box and are the opposite of self aware) and both of them would jump at the opportunity to call the other out on it. In the cases where they wouldn’t be able to influence (Itachi making Hidan a bit more patient, Hidan making Itachi more willing to call out bullshit, etc) or call out each other enough to change, they’d be able to easily cover for the other’s weaknesses (like, so easily that they’d be a horrific combat pair).
KisaSaso (Kisame Hoshigaki x Sasori) - These two know what it’s like to believe one thing for years and years then have your worldview shattered in an instant, making them potentially very affirming for each other. They both also value honesty and commit when they decide to trust someone or do something because of their past experiences.
Comfort Ships
These are the ships that I don’t have too much reason behind (even if there is some), I’m not super committed to finding or making content for, and I don’t really think of them in any deep or sophisticated or analytic way. They’re comfy, they’re chill, and that’s all I want them to be.
SasuKarin (Sasuke Uchiha x Karin Uzumaki) - I’ve read so many think pieces about these two and their relationship that this was inevitable. I did this to myself.
ChouSaku (Chouji Akimichi x Sakura Haruno) - They both have body image issues and a deep love for their friends. They are so fluffy, I want them to cook together, and their child would be nicknamed Cherry.
LeeSaku (Rock Lee x Sakura Haruno) - Their development during the Chunin Exams still lives rent free in my brain and they’re both such romantics. This one I switch in and out of shipping.
LeeHina (Rock Lee x Hinata Hyuga) - They have a weird amount of similarities and they’d be cute. That’s it.
SasuHina (Sasuke Uchiha x Hinata Hyuga) - They look nice together and have a bit of a night sky aesthetic. This one is the one that I think about the least, like, I’m not entirely sure if I actually ship them or I just like looking at fanart of them.

I love the Naruto World so much that I wish I was in it, I want to be a female Senju princess who's a god child to Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki.
I'll love to be the last child of Tsunade Senju and Jiraiya Ogata, be the Sixth Hokage after saving the Leaf with Naruto Uzumaki, and is the main romantic interest of Sasuke Uchiha, a former student of Orochimaru Yashagoro.
I want Naruto to have a sibling, so I chose Deidara cause Uchiha Clan heirs tend to be rivals with Uzumaki Clan members and I don't to replace Hanabi for somebody else, so Hinata got a big sister now...how about Yume for the name...yes.
My name should be Misako, have a big sister named Akira who's the main romantic interest of Itachi Uchiha, and is the Chosen One with elemental bending powers as the Light Avatar who must destroy the Dark Persona.
I shipped myself with Sasuke, NaruHina for life, NejiTen, ShikaTema, SaiIno, KibaTama, ShiShi, ChoKaru, LeeAma, KankuAka, SoraKae, GaaMatsu, AsuKure, KakaHana, JiraTsuna, MinaKushi, Orochimaru X OFC, Itachi X OC, MY AU!Deidara X OFC!Hinata's Big Sister, ToneShion, IruAya, SuiKari, Sakura X OMC, GaiKao, KoteAnko, KabuGure, HayaYuga, IzuShizu, YamaYuki, ObiRin, Rin and Obito will be still alive, my dad's not gonna die too, Asuma deserves to live for his daughter, Neji stays living, etc.
There's ten tailed beasts from zero to nine; Satori the Reibi, Shukaku the Ichibi, Matatabi the Nibi, Isobu the Sanbi, Son Goku the Yonbi, Kokuo the Gobi, Saiken the Rokubi, Chomei the Nanabi, Gyuki the Hachibi, and Kurama the Kyuubi.
I want Team 02 [Yoruha - Hikaru, Nayumi, Migaku & Sakura], 03 [Gai - Neji, Tenten, Lee & Kaede], 07 [Kakashi - Naruto, Misako, Sasuke & Hinata], 08 [Kurenai - Kiba, Tamaki, Shino & Shiho], and 10 [Asuma - Choji, Ino, Shikamaru & Akane].
Sakura need to be shipped with somebody else rather than Sasuke, she was falling for him and broke her friendship with Ino for his heart.
If I was her, I'll choose my friend over my crush and keep my bond.
Misako got three childhood friends; Naruto, Hinata, and Sasuke...it's that clear and simple.
Misa doesn't like fan boys at all like Sasuke don't like fan girls, they're from enemy clans and are best friends who's secretly betrothed to each other as a way to form peace to both family trees.
Watching all episodes and movies, I've learned many shocking plots and twists throughout my childhood.
Itachi's an amazing big brother, I wish Naruto has a brother and I gave him one...named Deidara rather than Menma cause I see that alternative future son of our ramen lover if he was married to Sasuke.
I want Naruto to have his first kiss with Hinata, which leads to this scenario...what if Misako was between both him and Sasuke during the episode where they were finding out their teams.
Misako will kiss Sasuke...again, here's the catch, they shared their first kiss at a young age cause they liked each other and can see their futures as a badass power couple.
Itachi had already predicted that his little brother was in love with Misako...like he was with Akira, Akira will prevent Itachi's death and tell Sasuke the real truth herself with her baby sister by her side.
I've read a fanfiction on Wattpad that has an original female character portraying as Nezuko Kamado, her name was Misa, I loved it and saw the major changes they've done...it was glorious...shout-out to the author.
I know one way to make Sasuke feel overprotective to Misako like she's understanding with him, I've made three characters we know as original characters named Hikaru, Nayumi, and Migaku.
Hikaru will portray from Toneri or Seimei, Nayumi will depict from Shion or Sawaii, and Migaku...I got something for him...Yoichi or Ren.
Misako and Akira, two sisters with their father's white hair, their mother's brown eyes, their father's red markings, and their mother's beautiful looks and gorgeous figure...I got their character portrayals...Heinrich Prinz (Akira) & Eugen Prinz (Misako).
Indra & Asura was in love with the Kishimoto Sisters named...Luna & Kira...
Kira will be the light that guides Asura to the Sun and into the Spirit World for a bright star.
Luna will be the shadow that escorts Indra to the Moon and get him away from the Phantom Zone for a dark cloud.
The sacred ancestry continues to Madara Uchiha's lover and Hashirama Senju's wife...Mito Uzumaki & Himiko Hyuga.
Years have passed, I want Misa to become the Light Avatar since the Dark Persona was her complete polar opposite...they're destined lovers.
I honestly want Misa to have two sons and daughters; Daisuke (OMC: Haruto Uchiha), Mikoto (OFC: Amara Senju), Yuta (OMC: Isamu Senju), and Sayuri (OFC: Kiyomi Uchiha).
I'm giving Naruto another son and daughter; Menma (OMC: Soha Uzumaki) & China (OFC: Naruko Uzumaki).
If you're confused with the names of the following OCs I've planted, search for their names on Google to get some clarification...it took me a few tries and I've finished.
Comment down below, reblog, anything you wanna do...go for it.
Do not report me, this is just my ideas...something I wanna do for my fanfics in the future.
Sayonara guys...believe it!
Also...who will win between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso?
If nobody wins and unexpected twists happen, who will return?
What if Damian Priest changes his mind and cash in on Roman, if not...on whoever wins between Seth and Finn?
Who will beat Dominik's ass and strip him from his title?
Will Santos dethrone Theory?
Can Ricochet take down a jackass?
Will Gunther stay undisputed?
Who will be Rhea's opponent?
Who will walk out as Women's Undisputed Champion?
Will Iyo win or lose her chance?
Will Shotzi get revenge on Bayley?
Can LA Knight conquer the Battle Royal?
Will Shayna kick this transphobic bitch's ass out of wrestling for good?
Will Solo join his brother?
Will Cody end Lesnar?
All these questions and more will be confirmed tomorrow night at Detroit...watch Peacock now, get your tickets, and get ready cause it's ride or die this year on 2023.
Let this tribal combat...commence.

💫🌷Hi-kar here!•°
Hi, This is Hykar and welcome to my blog where I mainly talk, write, and post about my favorite characters and sometimes the game/fiction where they are from. Welcome to my little world! You may ask me about myself but please make sure its not too personal :)!
I read Manhwas, Manhuas, Fanfictions, and Novels—I also like to watch Donghuas, Animes/Animated series, and Films. I also like to play a wide range of games (mainly adventure and building ones) such as Pokemon (Emerald), Genshin Impact, Obey Me!, Dark Corridors, Honkai Starrail, Path to nowhere, Project Sekai!, and so much more.
Overall just a person who's really into books and fiction. I also write my own novels and comics with my own characters!
🌷What I write and accept:
I write Character x Reader/OC/another character Fanfictions (Including: scenarios/imagines, oneshots, and AU's) (that will be definitely divided into parts because they will most likely going to be long) with an ACCEPTABLE trope and/or dynamic. (E.g. Rivals to Lovers, Picky-eater character x Eats everything character).
Requests are accepted! (Characters that differ from the ones I will write about may take some time because I want to understand their character first before writing).
I specialize in ANGST.
🌷What I DO NOT write and accept:
Character x Reader/OC/another character Fanfictions (Including: scenarios/imagines, oneshots, and AUs) that DO NOT have an acceptable trope and/or dynamic. (E.g. Character x Reader/OC that are siblings or have a... Jaw-dropping age gap.)
🌷What will take some time to be considered:
NSFW.
Dark Romance (It depends on what kind of Dark Romance is being implied.)
🌷SOME of my favorite characters and the game/fiction where they are from that I will post about:
Honestly, I have A LOT of favorite characters and most of them are either the side character that doesn't get a lot of screen time, dies or underrated. Sometimes all of the above. Henceforth I will be writing about them so that people that enjoy the same character I do get some more content about about them. Here are my top 3 favorites!
1. Sucheon Kang of Eleceed
2. Amajiki Tamaki of MHA/BNHA
3. Rosaria, La Signora, Arlechinno/Knave and Kaedehara Kazuha of Genshin Impact (My main too!)
4. Oliver Wood of the Harry Potter series
5. Neji Hyuga and Ino Yamanaka of Naruto
6. Sanzu Haruchiyo of Tokyo Revengers
7. Toge Inumaki of Jujutsu Kaisen
8. Tokito Muichiro of Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer
9. Kyousuke Tsurugi of Inazuma Eleven GO!
10. Simeon of Obey Me!
11. Boothill of Honkai Starrail
-Too many of them to count so I'll stop here. You may ask me who else!
🌷I have a lot of favorite Character x Character/ships but I won't list them anymore cause this post will be too long to read ㅠ ㅠ.
🌷HEADS-UP:
1. I may or may not write too often because of: Schoolwork, Writers block, Burn-out, My forgetfulness
2. Please be patient and respectful with your requests :(
3. My writing is pretty sh-t, Im sorry.
4. I edit my work sometimes which is often. (Perfectionist struggles... Jk. Maybe.)
5. I might post my opinions/thoughts in here and it might bury my works so I will keep it to a minimum, Including the reblogs.
6. I will generally refer to the reader/describe them via They/Them/Their pronouns for the reasoning that: me, as a writer does not know the reader personally, and so that my work is also accessible to everyone. This however, may or may not be applicable when it comes to a request since there are specifications.
🌷Thank you! This is Hykar. Pleasure to be of acquaintance!💫

Naruto Characters + Nikita Gill Quotes
Kakashi: “Destruction was not what I intended for you. But this is what happens to all who follow in my wake.”
Naruto: “Show me the most damaged parts of your soul, and I will show you how it still shines like gold.”
Sasuke: “She found him, clutching his head, unable to stand the carnage within him, teeth clenched, close to screaming. She asked him why, why he couldn’t stop. And he lifted his head, eyes red, and said, ‘No one taught me how to stop the bloodshed, the clash of metals, the battle cries, and all the tragedy and the screaming.”
Sakura: “‘Aphrodite,’ I pleaded to the moon drenched night sky. “Tell me; if love is meant to heal, then why does it destroy those who choose it?’ From somewhere beyond the clouds, I heard the Goddess laugh. And I knew.”
Shikamaru: “Some of us prefer the lonely to the glittering, the shaded hoods of trees to the constant glare of burning ochre.”
Ino: “I wonder what I could have done with all of the time I wasted wondering if I was good enough, pretty enough to exist.”
Neji: “The universe created you for a reason, now go out there and find out what it is.”
Guy: “How to be strong: There are no rules. You are already strong. Even when you are crying. Even when you are at your lowest point. Even when you are falling apart. Your strength is in your survival. Your strength is within you always. And besides, didn’t anyone ever tell you that strength looks so different on us all?”
Lee: “You smell like such joy and warmth that a glimpse of you has the sun turning green with jealousy.”
Gaara: “How do you kill a monster? You look for the frightened child it once used to be. Then you find a way to set that child free.”
Temari: “The most dangerous girl is one that knows her own mind well, she carries too much deadly in her bones to be a distressed damsel, this is a girl who distresses demons instead.”
Tsunade: “She learned her alphabet from ghosts and heard bedtime stories from the decaying throats of the dead, and we all know what this kind of nurture does to a girl.”
Jiraiya: “Pain does kill you. It kills a version of you that you do not need anymore, to birth a more powerful you from its terrible flames.”
Iruka: “People can be so quiet about their pain, that you forget they are hurting. That is why it is so important to always be kind.”
Pein: “Why be afraid of the dark when you can simply become it.”
Itachi: “There is a wounding here. A winding, a weathering, my story has been twisted into something it has not. A litany of half-truths follow me wherever I go.”
Hidan: “When my faith came back to me, like the forgiving water of a river to the pebbles that it smooths by constant weather and wear, I asked myself, what happens to the Gods when their people forget how to know them? What happens to their fearsome might when the fervent belief fades? Do you think they are still powerful when they become less than a memory? Or do you think without the power of prayer everything that makes them immortal is nothing but a facade?”
Obito: “Does the night ever tire of the darkness? Does the sea ever tire of her own depths? Do the trees ever tire of their roots? Do mortals ever tire of looking for other mortals to call home?”
Madara: “Why is it that some people are bothered by so little and some are unshaken by the most terrible things?” “It is because some of us are lucky and have never seen monsters. And the rest of us have had to survive the monsters we have seen.”

Your mother taught you most of the skills you currently possess. However, she didn’t necessarily teach you everything there was to know. She had left some things for you to learn on your own. She trusted you enough to fill yourself in with the blanks she left you, and you took it by heart. This was one of the reasons why you have advanced further compared to shinobis your age despite your lack of actual experience through missions.
By training with your mother, you focused on your strength and speed. However, it was with Kurenai sensei’s training that you learned the importance of timing.
According to her the perfect timing involves a combination of coordination, reaction time, and decision making. You have no problem with decision making considering you’ve been trained by your mother to hone that skill through her simulations. Coordination was not a problem for you as well. It was, after all, something every shinobi inherently possessed.
However, Kurenai sensei had already told you about how your reaction time needed improving from her initial assessment of your skills. With the help of repetitive drills and varying obstacle courses, she was able to improve your reaction time rather quickly.
Timing was also a very important aspect in casting a genjutsu. She told you that it was necessary to catch the victim off guard when casting a genjutsu so that they won’t be able to get out of it immediately.
“You have to find the perfect time to cast it, especially for elemental and ocular genjutsu, because you don’t want your target to know that they’re under a genjutsu,” she said once while you were training with Team Kurenai. “In the case of the Uchihas, if they somehow manage to get you to look into their Sharingan eyes, they would be able to cast a genjutsu on you. Sometimes they purposely do things to make you focus into their eyes. While some movements might seem like they’re just a natural habit because of their timing, it catches the target off guard and allows them to put you under a genjutsu.
“Kana sensei, on the other hand, uses a type of Water Release genjutsu called ‘Demonic Phantom Fog Prison’ wherein she creates a mist that puts the opponents under a genjutsu. The fog is infused with chakra so she’s able to control the chakra flow of the cerebral nervous system of her targets. Most often, the opponents would assume she used the Hiding in the Mist Technique, but by the time she would appear in front of them to attack, they would realize too late that they were in a genjutsu when they cannot move anymore.”
With Kurenai sensei’s expertise in that field, she gave you tips on how to effectively cast a genjutsu. Sometimes, before training would start, she’d silently pull you to the side and tell you to practice your genjutsu on Team Kurenai during your sparring sessions with them. This gave you the opportunity to practice your skills in casting genjutsu, and an opportunity for Team Kurenai to practice determining if they were under a genjutsu and how to break out of it.
You only got to train with them for two weeks though, because they had been called on a mission that would last for around a month. You were disappointed because you really were learning a lot from their team.
Although you initially thought you had nothing to contribute to their growth as individuals and as a team, your presence somehow helped them improve themselves as well.
Hinata would often train with you with the drills and obstacle courses to improve her reaction time as well. Kiba would always challenge you in a race to help him with his speed. Shino would engage in hand to hand combat with you to improve his taijutsu. Although both Shino and Kiba had yet to win against you, and Hinata was still behind your skills, you did note that every single day you trained with them, they got better and better.
Kurenai sensei was nice enough to treat you to dinner with the whole team the day before they had to leave for the long mission. When you all entered Yakiniku-Q, a cheery voice called out your group.
Ino was waving her hands happily, beckoning your group over to their table. She was with Shikamaru, Choji, and another male who you assumed was their team captain.
“Kurenai sensei! Please join us. It’s Asuma sensei’s treat!” Ino said.
Asuma sensei, who you assumed was their team captain, choked on his food at Ino’s sudden declaration.
Kurenai sensei only chuckled and curtly nodded. Then Ino whispered something to Shikamaru who was seated beside her. The male rolled his eyes, muttering “What a drag” under his breath while standing up to change his seat.
“Sensei, you can sit here,” Ino pointed to the place beside their team captain. Then she beckoned you and Hinata to sit beside her.
Kurenai whispered something to Asuma who’s rubbing the back of his neck all the while sporting a blush on his cheeks. You don’t need to be a genius to know that there’s something going on between the two of them. Ino watched them with a smile as she placed her chin on her palm.
Kurenai then spoke up to introduce you formally to the group, “This is Y/N. She’s new here but she’s been training with our team for a while now.”
“We already met her, sensei,” Choji said.
“I’m Asuma, jonin instructor of Team 10,” Asuma sensei introduced himself. “It’s nice to meet you.”
You smiled and bowed your head in greeting.
“She’s the daughter of Kana sensei,” Kurenai sensei told him.
“Ah, I do see the resemblance. So, what brings you guys here? Aside from dinner, that is.”
“It’s our last day of training with her before our long mission,” Kiba said while chewing his food.
“So what do you plan on doing while they’re away? Train alone?” Asuma directed the question to you.
You only nodded in response.
“Why don’t you join us in training then? I’m sure these three won’t mind,” Asuma sensei proposed as he pointed to the three of his members.
Your eyes widened. “That would be nice, if it wouldn’t be a bother.”
Ino immediately said, “Let’s do that! Then you’ll see how superior our group is,” she grinned.
Funnily enough, you expected Kiba to be the first one to react, and he did not disappoint. It just was too easy to rile him up. That was the start of the bickering between Kiba and Ino. Shikamaru sighed at that, thinking that Ino was already a handful by herself and now that Kiba was there too, it was more unbearable, for him at least. You were pretty much amused by them. It seemed like even the team captains were amused too considering they weren’t doing anything to stop the two. That was how the whole night went on.
And that was the reason behind your current predicament — with sweat forming on your forehead, and your body immobilized. Based on the book about clans that you’ve read, you were certain this was the secret jutsu of the Nara clan.
“That’s Ino-Shika-Cho for you!” Ino teased.
You had to hand it to them; their teamwork and strategy were astounding. You can tell just from their movements that they were particularly efficient when working together, much like a well-oiled machine. They need not verbally communicate with each other to know what they were supposed to do which was extremely impressive for you. This led you to wonder if this was because of how long they worked together as a team, or something else entirely.
You had a feeling their strategy doesn’t end with you being immobilized by Shikamaru’s jutsu. If anything, you believed they still had a card under their sleeve. And you’re assuming it has something to do with Ino and their clan’s jutsu.
You weren’t sure if you should wait for their next move or if you should start your counter-attack. On one side, waiting for their next move would help you learn more about their techniques, especially Ino’s. This would help you come up on a strategy for the next sparring session with the team. But on the other hand, their final move could be their winning move and at this point, you didn’t want to lose without showing off your skills.
Because it took you too long to decide, and Ino had started the preparations for her jutsu so you had no other choice but to watch and wait. She had her hands raised up, fingers forming a circle. And the next thing you know, you’re not in the training grounds anymore.
You squinted your eyes and focused on trying to determine if this was a genjutsu. But then Ino spoke up, “This is your consciousness, pretty cool isn't it?”
You hummed.
“Sorry, Y/N, but I’m going to take over your body now,” she smirked.
The thing about Ino was she was really lax and maybe too confident.
You smiled back at her. “Really?” You asked.
Your response took her by surprise. You used this opportunity to quickly appear in front of her. Before she could even deflect, you kicked her on the jaw.
And then the jutsu was broken.
When you came to be, you were no longer held on by Shikamaru’s shadow. But he was staring at you intently, probably wondering if you were still under Ino’s jutsu or not. And when Ino started stirring beside him, his eyes widened, realizing you broke free from the Mind-Body Switch Technique.
“Choji!” Shikamaru shouted, but it was too late.

Naruto Fic Rec:
Status: Complete
Rating: Teen+
Type: One-Shot
Pairing: Gaara/Rock Lee, Neji/TenTen, Ino/Sai, Shikamaru/Temari
Summary:
Tenten doesn't actually dislike Gaara, okay. She got over the whole "crushed his leg and almost his dreams and therefore deserves to get stabbed through the throat" THING. However, if Gaara thought that because he was the Kazekage he was allowed to play around with Lee's heart then he had another thing coming. It was very, very disrespectful of him, whether or not Lee had never looked happier than when they were holding hands.
(She didn't care if he was the second coming of Hashirama himself. If anyone wanted to seriously date her friend, then they needed ask- it was only polite.)
My thoughts: Tenten was hilarious and amazing in this. And I just love the idea that in order to be in a serious relationship in Konoha you have to beat up your s/o's teammate. It sounds like something crazy that Konoha would come up wt. Super sweet 10/10

Neji/Ino - “Carrion”
Already giving you a heads-up that this one will be dark, and touches on a lot of mature themes.
“They were all lost the moment they pressed their bloodied thumbprints to dusty scrolls and sealed their names away.  This is the sacrifice of all shinobi.”  -  Yamanaka Ino.  Hyuuga Neji.  Sometimes they take the corpses home with them.
Can be read here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12931323/1/Carrion

* * *
Ino comes home quietly, unobtrusively, and with the smell of blood that is not her own faintly trailing her.  She removes her arm guards at the door and lays her gloves attentively along the table.  She stands there staring at them for long moments, and then she’s moving further into the house, removing her hair-tie, sighing as the long, blonde tresses brush past her shoulders and down her back.
Neji greets her in the threshold of their bedroom.
Ino’s eyes shift over his shoulder, unfocused.  “Work ran late,” she says.
I injected mercury beneath a man’s eyeballs and denied him sleep for 72 hours, she doesn’t say.
Neji glances at the unblemished gloves by the door, and then back at his wife. “Have you eaten?” he asks.
Ino shakes her head, fingers curling and uncurling.
“Come,” he says, motioning for the kitchen.  He stills with his hand on an open cupboard door when Ino wraps her arms around his waist and stops him.
“Just…wait,” she says, her breath pooling between his shoulder blades.
And Neji waits.  He looks down at her fingers laced over his stomach and wonders, not for the first time, if she will ever stop smelling of blood.
Or rather, if it will ever not be familiar between them.
There is nothing tender about the way her hands slip downward, purposeful and intent.
Neji hisses when she dips below the drawstring of his pants, and before he can turn fully to her or breathe a word of concern – because he is concerned, enough that she has him shaking, always has him shaking and in some part of his mind he realizes she has always known this (it’s why she can rip answers from enemy nins’ throats with the same hands she caresses him with that very night) - she plants her lips at the curve where neck meets shoulder and the axis of his world shifts imperceptibly.
Just enough that his vision goes a shade darker.
 * * *
Neji looks down at the dead kunoichi at his feet.  She had taken the place of her comrade when Neji’s Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms nearly ripped the rogue nin to pieces.  The shinobi he intended the attack for is slumped against a tree, unconscious, unaware of his dead lover (lover, Neji supposes, because of the look in her eyes when he had meant to kill the man).
His fellow ANBU Crow wipes his katana on the grass and then stands straight beside Neji.  “She might have gotten away if she hadn’t stayed for him.”
Through the slits in his mask, Neji can see the broken arch of her back, blood trickling from her ears and mouth.  “That’s why you don’t take missions with lovers.”
Crow glances at him out of his peripheral, and sure, maybe Neji recognizes the hypocrisy in that statement, because he doesn’t stop requesting the Hokage pair him with Ino when he discovers he needs to.
Not when he begins sneaking glances at her bared neck and the flex of her thighs and the vaguely threatening quirk of her lips when she manages to catch him (but she has always seen his stares, and for someone who sees a lot more than she, he still hasn’t figured that one out, but then, Ino’s always been rather talented at bringing the hidden to light).
And he doesn’t request a new partner after that first night he pins her to a tree and presses a thumb along her delicate collar bone in reverent desire, his tongue trailing the motion as he moans into her skin.  Nor when she presses herself against him, lips at his throat, hands dipping lower, lower, until –
Not even after that first night he loses himself inside her, one of her hands pressed over his mouth to muffle his groans while her other grips a fistful of his hair.
But the moment he trails his hand after hers in the crowded tea house, eyes downcast, the space between them farther than he’s ever known and he’s a second away from closing that space – right there in front of everyone – Ino’s eyes flicker dangerously and she’s abruptly sliding into the seat next to Shikamaru, ignoring his grumbles of there being no more room, and Neji is forced to take the seat across from them.
She does not look at him in the entire time it takes his untouched tea to grow cold.
The next day they are reassigned on Ino’s request.
It is only when she comes to him days later, hands cupping his cheeks, brilliant blue eyes unblinking on his, that she tells him, with a fragility to her voice he has never heard before  – “The mission will always come first” –
They are married two months later.  And maybe this is how he finds himself in love with Yamanaka Ino in the first place.
Because she is right in all the wrong ways, and Neji knows she will hold true to those words.
“The mission will always come first,” he says now to Crow, turning from the corpse.
And they will each always come second, he doesn’t say.
(Because if it needed saying at all then they wouldn’t be shinobi.)
 * * *
“You never wear a ring,” Ibiki mentions, nodding to her hand while he stands beside her.
Ino looks up at him with a raised brow.  “Can’t bloody the finery, now can I?”
Ibiki purses his lips, nodding faintly, turning back to the man slouched in the cell before them.  “You’re good at not bloodying your hands.  It’s why you’re made for this.”
Ino doesn’t answer, just looks at the captured nin resting unconscious against the bars.
“But I can see how a ring might…get in the way,” he says lowly.
She laughs.  Abrupt and eerily loud.  She shakes with it.  “You say it like anything gets in my way.” Her hands itch to clasp around her bare fourth finger.
Thing is, Neji never gave her a ring.  And maybe it had been that way because he hadn’t thought to live long enough to give her one in the first place.  And somehow, that still holds true.
She doesn’t tell Ibiki how she comes home with her lungs in her throat, senses searching frantically for the sharp tang of his chakra, how she reaches for the door like it is the last time she will ever open it.
(Because she knows – the day he doesn’t come home, neither will she, and this she tells to no one.  She has worked with secrets long enough to live with one herself.)
Ibiki eyes her thoughtfully.  “You could though, you know, if you wanted to.  You could wear one.”
Ino’s mouth clamps tightly shut as she folds her arms across her chest.
           No. No, she couldn’t.
Don’t let the prisoners see a weakness, don’t give them a window, don’t let them know you can hurt just as well.
And Ibiki knows this, too, but maybe this is his way of giving her an out.  An out she will never take, because –
“Like you said, I’m made for this,” she answers decidedly, reaching to open the cell door.  “And nothing gets in my way.”
The captured nin wakes with a scream.
She never asked for a ring anyway.
 * * *
“We must take his eyes,” Neji says, squatting at the side of the fallen ANBU, a known Hyuuga.  His teammates crouch around the corpse similarly.  Even with the Hyuuga seal stealing away the Byakugan upon death, Neji has seen too many horrifying experiments, too much desecration of the dead to trust anything but his own hands.
Crow flicks a kunai from his pouch and then stills, the blade glinting in the twilight.  Neji looks up at him.
He expects it, really, if he thinks about it; the kunai is flipped, handle held out to him, and in the moment Neji takes the offered steel he also remembers that Hyuuga have always taken care of their own.
Ox slides the cracked and bloodied mask from Dog, their dead comrade.
In the minimal moonlight, Neji recognizes the man – he remembers the way he had served tea, and the way he gracefully closed the shoji doors, and even the way he padded silently down the halls of the Hyuuga abode.
He does not remember his name though.  And when the tip of the kunai pierces the edge of his eye, a thin arc of blood branding Neji’s chin as he cuts deeper, curling the blade tight along the eye socket, he finds it doesn’t matter.
Nameless, all of them.  Be it Hyuuga or ANBU.  There is no room for remembrance in lives like theirs.
Even still, when he finally makes it home four days later, Neji stalks across the living room floor after slamming the front door closed, startling Ino from her cushioned seat on the couch, and before she can utter a word in greeting his hands are in her hair and his lips are on her mouth and he’s pushing her down onto the couch, sinking into her, muffling her sound of surprise with his tongue.
Because his wife has never served him tea in her life, and he doesn’t think she’ll be starting anytime soon.  And because she keeps her doors open, shoji or not, without exception, even when she strides towel-less from the shower into the bedroom.  And because she has never stepped lightly, in this house or any another, and maybe these are all the reasons she is not welcomed at the Hyuuga’s.
And yet, hers is a name he does remember.
“Ino,” he moans into her mouth, already dragging down the waistband of her shorts in a heated rush, his knee already pushing her legs apart.
“Ino, Ino, Ino,” he pants against her.
Distantly, Neji wonders who will take his eyes when he is gone.
But he is too distracted by the arch of Ino’s back when he bites down on her neck to think too long on it.
 * * *
“It’s pointless, you know?  They’ll throw you away in the end.”  The captured nin splutters blood on the words.
Ino narrows her eyes as she squats down in front on him, the dim light of the interrogation chamber casting slants of shadow across her brilliant, brilliant hair.  She does not offer a response.
Eyes shifting upward from his sprawl along the dirt floor, the nin glares at her in something she might have called pity if it wasn’t so hard.
(But maybe all pity is hard – empathy is a pretense in this place, anyway.)
“Whatever loyalty you think you owe your village,” he explains through a cough, fingers digging into the dirt, “it’s pointless. You are nothing to them. Just like I was to mine.”
“Then it should be no issue to reveal where you’ve hidden their scroll,” she says calmly, hands stilled in the appropriate sign.
The prisoner flicks watering eyes to her terrifyingly still hands, his labored breathing loud in the room, the scrape of his nails along the dirt ringing in Ino’s ears.
(It is always the sounds that follow her home at night, not the screams, but the sounds – the way air chokes beneath blood in a gurgling throat, the way frantic hands scramble through the dirt, the way broken ends of bones grind sickeningly against each other.
She never screams in her nightmares either but oh – the sounds.)
The man chuckles darkly, and she cannot tell whether it is defeat or irony, but his muscles quake all the same and she knows he will not take long under her touch.
“And yet I cannot,” he replies, eyes closing, a tremulous breath leaving his chapped lips.  “We are both slaves to our respective owners it seems.”
Ino draws a deep, even breath through her nostrils, exhales it slowly through parted lips, eyes the man with an indifference that might have terrified him had he kept her gaze.
“My loyalty is not blind, nor is it singular.” Before her mind, pale eyes flash.
The wounded nin blinks blearily up at her, breath catching in his throat.
Ino’s hair spills over her shoulders as she rises to her feet, the only brightness in the dim room, her hands still poised mid-sign. “And we are done here.”  She forms the release with her palms, and the man doubles over, screaming, hands clenching at his stomach.
He is still screaming when she walks from the cell unperturbed.
Later, when she is poking her chopsticks through her bowl of ramen, Ibiki slides into the seat next to her.  “Yamanaka.”
“I haven’t been that for a while now, Ibiki.” She throws a disinterested brow his way.
“Ino,” he amends, and somehow that is worse and she doesn’t know why.
She swallows thickly and turns back to her food.
“What that nin said…” he begins.            She sighs, pushing her bowl away.  “That’s what fear does, makes philosophers out of all of us.”  She rests her hands on her lap and doesn’t take notice of their shaking.  “Preachers even.”
Ibiki stays silent beside her.
And suddenly, she is angry.  Spiteful.  Her heart rages against her ribs.  “What utter bullshit,” she spits, pushing from the table.
Ibiki watches her stalk away, her bowl of ramen still steaming on the table.
There are still no screams in her nightmares that night, though maybe there should be.
 * * *
Neji does not tell Ino she is pregnant.
It has never been offensive in their house for him to use his Byakugan within its walls.  She has never chastised him like the Hyuuga have, nor even seen the indecency in it.  There is comfort in that knowledge he does not question, even when his Byakugan shows him things he’d rather not see.
Because this…he’d rather not see.
He had seen the first three as well, before she miscarried, and he had named them all, buried them all, loved them all – infinitely and without remorse – even when he curled his arms around the trembling form of his wife as they laid in her barren hospital bed and he whispered “I’m sorry” over and over and over as though it meant something.
As though children were promises they simply forgot to keep and not wishes they’d never meant to make.
(Such wishes are considered curses beneath the weight of the Hyuuga seal.)
Ino is at the sink when he comes up behind her, wrapping his arms around her and burying his face in her hair, that brilliant, golden hair, that hair he wonders if his children might have had, should he have been allowed to keep them, and the thought makes him hold her that much tighter.
“Neji,” she breathes in question, though his name has never been a question on her lips, only a sureness, only a firm understanding.
Only ever a statement, a demand, a certainty.
(It is the only certain thing between them – from seals to missions to miscarriages – his name on her lips is the only sure thing either of them know.)
“I have to leave in the morning,” he says.
I want to stay, he doesn’t say.
But maybe Ino knows anyway, because she drops the rag in her hand and tries to turn – tries, but fails, because Neji holds her steady against the counter, his grip almost painful.
“Neji,” she says again, this time firmer, pushing back only to be met with his hips pinning her back against the sink, his desire apparent.  She sucks a breath between her clenched teeth.
“No,” he breathes against her neck, a heady exhale that has her arching against him as he peels her hair back from her neck with purposeful fingers.
But Ino is not used to being told no, and when she moves to push back again, Neji winds his arms from around her waist and traps her hands against the counter instead.  “I said ‘no’,” he growls into her skin, moaning at the resulting tremble that rocks her.
His hands are already pushing up her skirt and when he finally sinks inside her heat, rocking into her with a heady need, her fingers gripping the sink, her head thrown back as she pants beneath his touch – Neji realizes this is her need as much as it is his.
Perhaps even their punishment, too.  Their punishment for ever thinking of lives beyond shinobi and duty and sacrifice.
And maybe, if he pushes hard enough, if he grips her tighter, if he drowns his sob in the taste of her skin, they will be able to remember why they chose their village over each other.
Neji does not tell Ino she is pregnant.
But more than that, he does not tell her how he wishes she wasn’t.
 * * *
Ino discovers the truth herself several days later while Neji is out on mission.  She leaves Sakura’s office with a hand over her stomach, waving off her friend’s concern. She walks the way back to their home by herself, greeting Choji as she passes him, even Kiba and Akamaru when they stop mid-wave, catching her different yet familiar scent on the wind (she doesn’t get into the why just yet).
She has done this before, and each time she has regretted it.
She imagines this time will be no different.
Ino crawls into bed and lies there staring at the ceiling until night falls.  Until she can hear the rustle of branches just outside her darkened window.  Until the gentle slide of their opening bedroom door makes her stir against the sheets and her husband’s chakra is suddenly sour and jagged in the room.
Until her mouth is ripe with unspokens and Neji comes to her on a sigh.
“I’m home,” he says, and she doesn’t need him to say it, because she can smell the mud on his shoes and see the tear in his flak jacket and even in this cold, cold room, she can feel the heat of his calloused palms when they reach for her.
Ino grabs him by the collar and pulls him down, shifting on the bed until she is crouching over him, her features sharpened into something familiarly like anger (that she doesn’t understand) and then she’s trembling, fits curling into the material of his jacket and when he lights his hands comfortingly along her shoulders she finally shudders with her first sob.
“I’m home,” he says again, “and I’m sorry.”
Relief that tastes dangerously like dread washes over her tongue.  Her jaw tightens over her words, her body sinking down until she is pressing her forehead into his chest and expelling a shaky breath between the clenched fists that hold him beneath her.
“I’m sorry.”  This time a pained, ragged exhale.
“Shut up,” she whispers against him, swallowing tightly.
Neji slips a hand tenderly into her hair.
“You should have told me.”  She doesn’t think it needs mentioning exactly what he should have told her, because it’s apparent anyway. It’s blaringly obvious.  It’s how he doesn’t reach for her waist or pull her fists from his jacket or do anything really but press his lips to the crown of her head and let her shake above him.
“You would want to keep it,” he answers without censure.
Ino lifts her head up then, and if he can see the tears lining the corners of her eyes he doesn’t say anything (maybe this is how she finds herself in love with Hyuuga Neji in the first place).  “I would,” she affirms, eyes steady.
They stare at each other in the near dark for long moments.  Long enough for Ino to remember the pain of each previous miscarriage, and long enough for her to remember the disgusting relief she wouldn’t admit to feeling when they happened.
Because any child born to them would still be sealed, and they have given enough of themselves for this village, for their clans.
Laughingly, and even a little bit desperately, Ino had once asked Neji to run away with her, to just leave, to just –
leave.
Their clans, their duty, their lives as shinobi.
But then Konoha had been threatened, as it always is, and Ino had rushed to the front lines before she could get her answer, aborting the idea before it could even take root.
She had been pregnant then, too, and when she awoke in the hospital, Sakura had told her it was a miracle all she lost was the baby (the baby she hadn’t even known about and here – here is where Ino begins to crack).
“I would keep it if I could,” she says honestly. More honest than she’s been in a long, long time, and Neji’s palm at her cheek reminds her that he sees all.
Even her lies.
“I know,” he breathes lowly.  “I always have.”
Ino’s face sharpens back into the (un)familiar anger. “Shut up,” she repeats, leaning back slightly, steadying herself as she straddles him atop the bed.  She stares down at him and watches the flicker of something painful cross his moonlit eyes.  “Shut up.”  This time a croak, a plea.  And then she is lowering back down, slanting her lips over his and releasing his jacket to smooth her hands down his chest.
“I’m sorry,” Neji offers against her mouth, trembling.
She is as well, both sorry and trembling.
So utterly sorry she has no words for it. Nothing but her mouth on his and the faint hope that when she wakes in the morning he will still be there, still be –
hers.
(Because if there is anything in this world she can keep, she hopes it to be him, at the very least.)
 * * *
They meet Hinata in the street on their way to the training grounds where Lee and Tenten are waiting.  It is the first he has seen her since Hanabi’s induction as the Head of House.
Hinata stumbles to a halt before them, smile going wide, and Neji feels his chest tighten, though not uncomfortably.  Hinata places an affectionate hand on his arm and he covers it with his own, fingers squeezing tight.
“It’s good to see you, Neji.”  Her smile does not waver, even when she retracts her hand and they are once again three feet apart.
           Always, three feet apart.
(The Hyuuga have never been a family so much as they’ve been a household and it is ingrained in each of their bones deep enough to always be thus, even when their hearts know better.)
“Hello, Hinata,” Ino says warmly, and maybe it hadn’t always been ‘warmly’, but in loving Neji, Ino has learned to love more than him, and the way Hinata inclines her head in Ino’s direction tells the blonde kunoichi that it is mutual, if not even a bit welcomed.
They welcome a lot more than they say, really, but there is always – still –
           Three feet between them.
Neji’s jaw tightens minutely, and if Ino hadn’t been utterly and intimately familiar with every insignificant flex of his skin, it might have gone unnoticed.
But he knows his wife better than to believe that.
“You should come to dinner tomorrow night,” Hinata offers, adjusting the bags in her arms.
“The Hokage’s not too busy for the little people?” Ino asks teasingly.
Neji nudges her for her impropriety but she only nudges back, exaggeratedly, and Hinata giggles in response, and maybe, just maybe –
Neji thinks this is what family means.
Hinata pulls away the hand that had hidden her giggle and smiles in response. “I’m sure Naruto misses you as well.”
There is a moment between the three that is the calmest Neji has known in a long, long time, but then Hinata is brushing her bangs aside as she sighs beneath the sweltering sun and then there – there – the taunting green of the Hyuuga’s seal peeks out beneath the dark strands.
Neji goes rigid with remembrance.  Ino’s hand winds around his elbow and begins to pull.
“Well, we’ll see you tomorrow then.  You should get out of this heat, Hinata,” Ino urges.  And then they are away, and the last thing Neji sees is Hinata’s hand settling along her rounded belly and Neji thinks he might be sick, right then and there.
It’s not until they are several blocks away when Ino stops them, turning Neji to face her, her hands gripping his shoulders with a fervency that is all too familiar.
“Hey,” she says.  “Hey, hey, look at me.”
He does.  He always does.  He has not stopped looking at her since the first moment she had touched her lips to his forehead and whispered her affection into his skin.
“It will not be the same for them,” she tells him, near shaking him.
He nods at her, but she doesn’t seem to believe it, because she grips him tighter.
“It will not be the same for us,” she breathes determinedly.
But his own seal burns beneath his hitai-ate, and in the time between her desperately grabbing his hand and then resting it along her barely visible stomach, somewhere in the back of his mind Neji remembers that the Hyuuga have always been a household.
           Not a family.
 * * *
Ino drops the file down on Shikamaru’s desk, not without a certain amount of contempt.  “There’s your information,” she sneers, and maybe if she were a better person, she would feel guilty for it.
But then, if she were a better person, she wouldn’t be here at all, and that in itself is all she needs to release some of that righteous indignation into her taut shoulders.  She pulls them further back  – “spine straight, chin high, you’re a Hyuuga now” (it’s not so different from being a Yamanaka she realizes, except perhaps how tightly they shut their doors) .
Shikamaru lets out a pained sigh, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose.
She can’t blame him for Choji, she knows this.  She blames the captured nin bleeding out in the cell she left him in. But it was still Shikamaru’s signature on the mission scroll, still his hand that sent their teammate to his death. And in the end, it is easier to hate Shikamaru than it is to grieve Choji because that means grieving more than just Choji and she – she isn’t ready for that.
           May never be, really.
Ino can handle the anger.  She can handle the job.  This is the pledge she made to her village all those years ago.
And Ino is a kunoichi of her word.
Shikamaru seems to give up from the start, because all he does is open the folder and raise a single disinterested brow up at her (the tight line of his mouth gives him away anyway and somewhere inside it softens Ino, if only a little). “That was fast,” he says, as though not really expecting an answer.
She has one anyway, always does.  “It’s called Torture and Interrogation for a reason, sir.  We don’t sit around painting each other’s nails down there.”
His fingers skim over the photograph in the file, evidence of her questioning. “No, you don’t,” he agrees quietly, his fingers retreating back over the edge of the table where they fold over his lap. His eyes flick to her nails anyway, maybe in sarcasm (it is his greatest shield, afterall), or maybe in some kind of reassurance because really, you never know with Ino and yet, her nails are still pristine.
A brilliant, dangerous red.  Not a chip in sight.
She always has been quite adept at keeping her hands clean.
(They, neither of them, were ever very clean though.)
“I hope it was worth it,” she nearly spits, eyebrows rising like a challenge.
Shikamaru pushes from his seat.  “It will be.”
Ino narrows her eyes, arms crossing over her chest.  “It better be, for Choji’s sake.  You can tell the Hokage I said that.”
“Naruto didn’t send him on that mission.  I did.”
Ino grips her arms tighter.  “Stop, Shikamaru, before I really begin to regret it.”
Bracing his hands along the table, he leans forward, his face a passive mask. “I sent him, Ino.”
Gritting her teeth, Ino takes a step forward, finger jutting in the air toward him. It’s this air between them, this stale, heavy air.  She’s choking on it.  Drowning.
Her lungs are sodden with it, so that every breath is like a hook in her throat.
“Fuck you, Shikamaru,” she grinds out, not even noticing the wetness dotting her eyes.  “Don’t you fucking dare – ”
“And you’d have done the same thing,” he says surely.  As though it is without question.  Because he has always known her a little more than she’d have liked though neither of them have ever admitted to it.
It’s enough to still her, for her hand to drop limply back to her side, for her to suck a sharp breath through her clenched teeth.
If she looked hard enough, she’d see the regret behind his eyes, but she isn’t too keen on looking right now.  Not now.
           Maybe not ever.
(They’d brought Choji back in pieces and she hasn’t been to the cemetery since.)
“We do the things that others won’t, Ino.  The things that must be done.”  He closes the folder slowly, the whisper of its pages like a death knell to her. “You know this even better than I.”
It’s true – it’s all true, it’s inherent, it’s second-hand, it’s in her fucking bones, her fucking skin.  It’s her, inside and out and down into those deep, deep dungeons where her hands rip screams and information from shinobi just as honorable and loyal as she.  Just as true as she.
But this is her village, and not theirs, and in the back of her mind she knows that doesn’t make it right but it is.  It is right.
Because if it was wrong then that changes everything.
She turns to leave, because she cannot stay here.
“Your husband’s been added to the mission’s docket,” he calls out behind her.
Ino stills, her hand on the doorknob.  Part of her knows he isn’t allowed to tell her this, and yet, he tells her anyway.  Because this is Nara Shikamaru.  And Nara Shikamaru will always be her teammate, her friend.
Even when she hates him for it.
“Neji is strong.  He’ll be fine.”  Her hand tightens on the doorknob and she hears Shikamaru slump back in his chair behind her.  “But more than that, he knows that the mission always comes first.”
She doesn’t wait for his answer.
His whisper of “I’m sorry” doesn’t make it past the closing door behind her and she will never know how much he means it.
 * * *
           They break his hands.
And while the saying goes that there cannot be a Hyuuga without eyes there also cannot be a Gentle Fist without hands.
Ox is already dead, and Neji promises to return for his body but at the moment it takes all of him not to black out from the pain as he rushes from branch to branch back toward Konoha.
The mission is compromised.  Crow has already returned to the village with the stolen scroll while he and Ox were to eliminate the nin following them.  If Crow doesn’t make it back with help in time…
There are only two left, though two is all that may be needed.
Suddenly, he thinks of his wife.  His sharp-tongued, sharp-edged wife.  His golden hair wife.  Perhaps he is getting too sentimental as the years go on.  Or maybe it is just the fear.  The branding, pungent fear that this is it for them.  A failed mission and not even a body to bring home to her.
She is tired of burying comrades anyway, he knows this.
He never thought to have her bury him.
In a way, he is a fool.  They knew this from the beginning.  They always knew this, since that night he made his vows to her with only Hinata and Choji as their witnesses, his hands gripping hers so tightly he thought he might never have let go.
(He lets go every morning though, when he trails his hands along her naked back and leaves in the grey hours of sunrise while she is still sleeping and even still –
“The mission will always come first”.)
The two nin corner him in a clearing.
In the end, it is finished with his thighs snapping one’s neck between their hold, and the other bleeding out when he plunges a kunai deep into the man’s throat with his teeth.  Neji lays there for several long minutes slumped over the body, his vision inking black with the pain and exhaustion, his mouth bloodied with another man’s ruin. It is sour on his tongue like he has never tasted before and belatedly, he recognizes the ache of a punctured lung.
But he cannot pull the kunai from his chest with these broken hands of his and just before he blacks out entirely he thinks he sees Crow at the edge of the clearing and somehow he manages a gurgling chuckle.
He would have liked to thread his fingers through her hair, just one last time.
The image of her is stained to the backs of his eyelids, so that even in the dark, she is there.
 * * *
Ino already knows that it is a lost cause.  The moment she steps into the hall of holding cells, she is resigned to it. She has word that her husband is already dead, or at the least, very nearly dead, and all there is to show is a stolen scroll and a captured informant, one she had tortured days ago for the very information that got Neji into this mess in the first place.
She storms in anyway, and perhaps this is the mistake that brings the end.
Because there is nothing in her eyes but doubt and regret and the fierce salt-sting of tears she isn’t familiar with, not when she grabs the nin by the collar, yanking him to her, and not when she stares into his glazed over eyes. Definitely not when she feels the first shudder overtake her body.
“You,” she manages through clenched teeth.  She cannot manage any more.  Because words have failed her, just like her village has, and how dare they fail her on the same damn day because this is not – this is not what she signed up for.
Somewhere in the back of her mind Ino remembers the sharp curve of her father’s back when he had sunk to his knees and cried, his face in his hands, and she had stood there at the end of the hallway, watching him, this man who was quiet love incarnate, this man who was twice her size and infinite times her experience (she was eight, academy-bight and Sasuke-blinded), and she remembers wondering what that stark copper scent was when she had wound her hands through his damp hair and held his wailing form to her chest until suddenly –
It comes to her, years later, when the crimson stain of blood is lodged permanently beneath her fingernails (a brilliant, dangerous red, no chip in sight).
It doesn’t matter for what he cried, for what he mourned.  They were all lost the moment they pressed their bloodied thumbprints to dusty scrolls and sealed their names away.
This is the sacrifice of all shinobi.
And this is exactly what she signed up for.
Ino curls her fist tighter, knuckles pressing into the nin’s throat.  He is but a common, nondescript man, so generic she will not remember him years from now.  She will not even remember how he had slipped through her hold, though she suspects it has to do with the sheen of tears over her eyes and the thundering rage of her heart that blinds her  (they always told her that temper of hers would be her downfall and oh, how they were right).
What Ino does remember though, is the blinding pain in her gut when she looks down and finds two of his fingers jabbed between her tenth and eleventh right rib, the bones shattering in her abdomen.  And she should have sensed his surge in chakra, she should have felt out that last vestige of resistance in the far reaches of his mind, she should have never let her guard down, she should have seen it fucking coming.
She should have done a lot of things (like love her husband as a wife and not a shinobi, but she already made that choice years ago).
What she does instead is choke on the air in her lungs, a cloud of blood spraying past her lips on a jagged cough.  Her vision inks black for a single, terrifying second and distantly she can hear the man’s faintly resigned chuckle, her chakra flaring tightly to regain some semblance of control.  Just as he twists his hand, chakra lancing into her stomach when his fingers curl between her broken ribs, bits of marrow digging into her organs, she rushes him back under the veil of adrenaline, slamming him into the cell wall with a roar of unimaginable pain.  His head bounces back against the concrete, his fingers dislodging from her gut and in the same time that he begins to form a hand sign Ino is already grasping his chin in one hand, the other at the back of his neck, and then she is yanking with all the force she can, a sickening crack resounding through the empty room, his neck snapping so cleanly the bones are already pressing against the skin at a nauseatingly sharp angle, and she –
She is slumping to floor after his body slides down the wall.  It is a lost cause afterall, she thinks, as she settles a hand on her aching stomach, doubling over as she coughs into the dirt.
The mistake that brings the end.
Her unborn is already trickling down between her thighs, the seat of her skirt soaked in blood.
This is how they find her when she finally loses consciousness.
This is also how they lose her.
 * * *
Neji wakes two days later.  He doesn’t question how he still lives.  He doesn’t question how long he has been unconscious.  He doesn’t even question the presence of his sleeping wife at his bedside, though he should probably question her hospital gown (he doesn’t still, he can’t, he won’t, because he already knows what it means – he’s done this scene before, after all).
He takes a moment to stare at her, the grey light of early dawn blanketing the room so that her golden head of hair isn’t gleaming, isn’t brilliant.  It’s just an unremarkable blonde, nearly ash-like in this failing light.
He realizes he has never loved her so much as in this moment.
Ino stirs awake, because maybe she has sensed, even in her sleep, that he is awake himself, that she is tied to him like that, cognizant of him, ever-lingering in each other’s wakes so that when one is conscious, so is the other. So that when one is hurt, so is the other.
So that when one is needfully and painfully in love, so is the other.
At least, this is what Neji likes to think, because it is too disheartening to think otherwise and he has already decided (in this half-state of pain and dream and reality) that if he does not love recklessly then it isn’t worth loving in the first place.
When she blinks her eyes open to stare into his moon-pale gaze, he is sure there is no other woman in the land who could bring him to such reckless love.
“I’m home,” he croaks in a voice too long unused.
And then her face is crumbling, her hands moving to cover her eyes as the first tears come.  She doesn’t have to tell him how she got into that hospital gown in the first place, how she snuck from her room into his in the night, how she has spent the last hours grieving this alone.  She doesn’t have to tell him anything.
“And I’m sorry,” he says, voice still rough.
It is the constant between them it seems.
           “I’m home” –
           “I’m sorry.”
She is still sitting with her face in her hands.  A single ragged breath breaks from her and presses against her palms. “Do you love me?” she whispers.
“Yes,” he answers without thought, because it needs no thought.  It simply is.
Neji loves Ino, as surely as he knows she loves him, and when he watches the shake of her shoulders and the soft curve of her back as she hunches over in her sobs, Neji realizes it may even be a little more.
A little more than surely.  A little more than love.
Ino takes a labored breath in and lowers her hands, curling them into fists along her knees.  “Good,” she says, almost a laugh (almost, if not for the soft touch of delirium beneath her breath).  “It helps.” A grateful smile passes her lips, and then a steady calm seems to overtake her, her hands curling over her knees as she reigns in her breathing.
They sit staring at each other beneath the weight of their quiet tears, and for a moment Neji wants to reach out to her and usher her into the bed beside him, if only to have her closer.  But then he is looking down at his broken and bandaged hands, this reminder of the life he chose.
           The life they chose.
And before he can say anything she is already rising to leave.
           “Wait.”
           Ino stills.
He thinks he knows what he should say, or what he wants to say, but none of the words come.  Nothing comes but bitterness and grief.  It tastes like another man’s blood on his tongue and suddenly, Neji realizes it will always taste like that.
“The Hokage has already summoned me hours ago, Neji.”  Her back stays resolutely to him.
Neji swallows tightly, the bile already rising in his throat – that rank regret, that fucking regret, the knowledge that somewhere, someone, maybe even themselves, had well and truly fucked up.
So he says the only thing he can.  “Stay.”
He watches Ino’s shoulders slump slowly, before she is turning back to him, walking to him, bracing her hands on either side of his face and kissing him.
Kissing him and kissing him and killing him.
She pulls back a touch, a heavy pant on her lips, on his.  She leans her forehead against his and holds it there, her thumbs grazing over his cheeks.  “I love you, too, Neji,” she says.
           I can’t, she doesn’t say.
But then, most things don’t need saying between them.
Because Ino still smells like blood.  Because the axis of Neji’s world is still shifted.
And because he knows, when she leaves him in that desolate hospital room, and when he watches her go with the quiet understanding that all shinobi possess – they will carry this grief with them wherever they go.
They will always love with carrion hearts.

It was a calm morning in konoha everyone was with their family and loved one..The nanadaime hokage Uzumaki Naruto was home with his loving wife and his beloved children spending a chill morning in their living room next to Neji's picture on the Tv stand was the picture of a 17 years old girl with dark skin, deep black hair style in a bun and rinnegan in both of her eyes smiling with one arm around naruto's shoulders while he had one around her waist in a friendly way his other arm was holding hinata's hand while she was smiling with them that girl..was the last living uchiha female..

People use to bully and avoid her because of she was born with rinnegan eyes the mix of uzumaki and uchiha made her have both of ashura's and indra's chakra so she obtain the rikudo's eyes:rinnegan but people were still scared even Danzo was aware of the birth of a child with rinnegan and it made him more eager to end the uchiha.
After itachi killed the whole clan sasuke and her were stuck together always together they even move in together...when sasuke leave the village to join orochimaru he kissed her on the side of her head..a promise that he will come back..
Years and years later during the 4th ninja war they were figthing together..ahmya was seriously injured and disapear from sasuke 's eyes for a while after kaguya got sealed sakura suddenly came out of nowhere and claim that ahmya was dead sasuke was shattered...completly shattered sakura was chill about it naruto and the others were also hurt especially kurenai who was her third mother, tsunade who made her the youngest doctor the awoke byakugou

What do you think about Neji x Ino? Never thought about them together, but then I read some fanfics with Neji/Ino and it was so tragic and beautiful, I fell in love with them❤
And what do think about Sasuke&Neji like friends/allies/rivals/lovers/brotp? So much lost potential and opportunities, if you would ask me...:(
Thanks!
Hi there!
I think I read... maybe one fic about them? And wasn’t that much into the pairing, perhaps I didn’t read the right fic -most of the pairings I enjoy in Naruto are a product of a great fanfiction that got me hooked to them (forgive me, god, because I like ItaIno and I don’t have an actual reason other than I’m human and I like pretty things and Itachi while a bastard is freaking gorgeous and Ino... well, need I say it?). I’m not usually a multi-shipper, I do enjoy some ShikaIno works as well, but usually, I like Ino with Itachi and that’s it (which means I can enjoy a total of 5 fics and most of them write Itachi quite OOC -dammit-, lmao).
About Neji and Sasuke, I really, really like to think of them as close comrades. I usually think of Sasuke as an asexual/demisexual character, and while I don’t often think of Neji, when I do, is usually on the same terms. So I can see a friendship built in between them given their similar backgrounds. It would be a really silent relationship tho, which is hilarious.

SasuSaku Pairing (2,578 words)
A Poor Attempt at Writing Fics
Sasusaku Edition XXV
Free At Last
Not even grainy resolutions of webcam cameras and shitty internet connections can ever hide her wide-blown grin. May it be over a monitor, your smartphone or in person, Haruno Sakura’s smile will always be as beautiful as its owner. And it’s even much brighter now that her team is singing her happy birthday through her computer screen.
Boisterous laughter followed after all the singing because was that Lee-san who croaked that last note?
“That was awful, Eyebrows!”, laughed Naruto, some dramatic tears leaking from the corners of his happy blue eyes and his tongue slipping the familiar nickname outside work. “Was that you or you have a pet frog?” The addressed man cannot be seen beyond his webcam because he was busy lying under his desk because Sakura-san! I have failed to sing the best happy birthday song! Shame on me!
Almost choking on her drink, Tenten interrupted, “Hey Naruto, we’re still technically at work even though we’re working from home. Stop with the nicknames until later!”
“C’mon, buns! It’s not as if Boss is here to murder us with his glare! And it’s just another 10 minutes before our shift ends; we need to celebrate Sakura-chan's birthday at least!”, the blond whined as an answer.
“Aww, thanks so much guys!”, Sakura smiled. “Naruto, stop teasing Lee-san. And listen to Tenten, we still need to be professional while we’re still at work. I wish we are together at the office though! I would’ve loved to celebrate with you all, too.”
Another blue-eyed, blonde person answered. “Ugh, tell me about it. I’d rather be at the office right now and listen to Naruto’s obnoxious voice than be with a lazy ass and be bored out of my mind like someone over here..” Ino’s annoyed face and an even more annoyed voice rang through their earphones and speakers, noting the emphasis on some words about her boyfriend who rolled his eyes. In the background, you can hear Tenten’s Language!
They can all see Shikamaru, the boyfriend, who simply smirked, looked sideways at his workmate/girlfriend and lazily drawled, “You love this lazy ass.”
Series of ‘OHHHHHH’ can be heard from Kiba, Tenten and Naruto while Lee choked some more and laid again under his desk. Sakura just laughed at her best friend’s face because Ino was trying so hard not to blush that she covered her almost-red face and slapped Shikamaru’s arm at reach. Sakura even heard the man chuckled under his breath.
“Shika, you smooth fucker,” Kiba teased. “Teach us your ways!”
Tenten growled, “Inuzuka, if you don’t shut the fuck u-”
“Weren’t you the one who said to remain professional and mind our language while at work, Tenten-san?”, Lee’s head came up to peek onto the camera and asked his innocent question. He ducked again when the brunette’s eyes flashed for a second and escaped before she unleashes her rage on him.
Sakura’s laughter was light and happy, her green eyes sparkling with mirth. These people’s faces on her screen belong to not just her team at work but her friends. Her second family. Or maybe third? she thought.
They spend more than 40 hours a week together whether it be stressing over clients at work, drinking coffee at the pantry, pizza parlor visits after shift, and ice creams every payday. And now that she realized that it has been two long months since they worked from home, now at their last day of quarantine, let alone on her birthday, she misses them. Terribly so.
“I miss you guys. Really,” she said, her voice a bit lower than usual, which means she’s serious. Her friends saw it and immediately stopped their bickering. “I didn't have anyone before until Naruto and Ino came along. Then came Tenten, then Shikamaru... until Kiba and then lastly, Lee-san. It’s been 10 years since my first celebration with the blonds, but I feel like I’ve been celebrating it with all 7 of you ever since.” She smiled again, “Thank you for always being with me on my day.”
A few moments passed and finally, a chorus of incomprehensible words were heard through Sakura’s speakers because they all reacted at the same time:
“Sakura-chaaan! Don’t be sad! I’ll be sad too!”
“Cut... hik... cut the drama f-forehead! I d-.. I don’t want it!... hik...”
“Ah... now you want me to fall for you now, huh? Stop, damn it Sakura..”
“Girl, don’t touch my fucking heart like that. You already know we got you always.”
“SAKURA-SAAAAAAAAAN!!!”
Sakura watched it all with glowing eyes and a full heart. She looked one by one on their blurry little faces and she felt love just seep through her pores. She’s finally seeing them next week since the quarantine is finally over and there will be no need to hide from the pandemic that affected the rest of the world.
They’re still busy reeling over Sakura’s mini birthday speech and the rosette is overwhelmed with emotions when they heard Shikamaru asked, “Seven?”
“Huh?”, Sakura confusedly asked back.
“We’re only six here, excluding you, but you said ‘all 7 of you’ earlier.”
All eyes turned to her and she felt nervous. Crap, I slipped!
“Oh,” she started, nervously added an awkward laugh. “I meant six! I might be more tired than usual then. We had to talk to a lot of clients today anyway, right?”
She knew she didn’t convince Shikamaru and the rest of her friends, so she thanked all the deities she knew when her phone rang and Kakashi’s name flashed on her screen. She took it as an opportunity to escape more questions from them and so she said, “I gotta take this call, it’s my old high school teacher.”
She muted their audio of their conference call and opened the window of her emails instead to hide her screen and chat box. Sakura went to the balcony to answer the call.
Little did she know that she forgot to turn off her camera.
--
“Did you notice she was acting weird?”
“She absolutely did, right? She looked nervous earlier. Do you know something about this, Naruto?”
“No! She tells us everything but for the past few months, she’s been a little secretive, I think. It also doesn’t help that we’ve been in quarantine for 2 months! Is she still my best friend, Ino-chan?”
“First of all, I am her best friend and not you. And second, I agree. Ugh, this Forehead is making my head hurt!”
“Don’t judge Sakura-san! She’s a good friend! If she wants to tell us something, she will!”
“I don’t care about her secret or whatever, all I want to know where her house is because look at her room. So fucking huge!”
“That’s not her house, Kiba. Forehead said she’s staying at her mom’s friend because she’s alone at her apartment.”
“Yeah, Sakura-chan's room is much brighter and full of flowers! The room they gave her now is so boring, look! It’s either black or gray!”
“I wouldn’t mind. The size of that room is almost as big as my entire apartment. That bed looks something I want to break with Neji.”
“Tenten-san!! Control yourself!!!”
“Y’all are so noisy even in chat.”
“Shut up, ponytail!”
A movement from Sakura’s camera caught everyone’s attention. Her computer is located at the corner of the room so they could see a part of the queen size bed and has a direct view of the bedroom door. The knob turned and someone entered the room.
“WHO’S THAT?!!!”
“SOMEONE ENTERED SAKURA-SAN'S ROOM!!”
“Is that her mom’s friend?”
“Stop panicking idiots!”
“THEY BETTER LEAVE SAKURA-CHAN ALONE!!!”
“Wait...”
“Is that....?”
“OHMYFGOFDD”
“IS THAT BOSS TEME???!”
“Holy shit..”
“Damn he’s so fucking hot in sweatpants...”
“Why is he there??????”
“UCHIHA-SAN IS IN SAKURA-SAN'S ROOM!!!!!”
“I see... this could be why Sakura said 7.”
“NOOOO! THIS CAN’T BE! SAKURA-CHAN WON’T DATE THAT ASSHOLE! SHE CAN’T!!”
Stood inside the room is no other than their young CEO, Uchiha Sasuke, dressed in casual gray sweatpants and thin white t-shirt. If not because of his wild black hair and intimidating aura, they wouldn’t even know it’s him. They have always seen him in crisp suits and perfect posture, maybe once in a bomber jacket and ripped jeans, but this is the first time they’ve seen him in comfortable clothes with his usual stiff shoulders a bit relaxed and his hands casually tucked in his pockets.
Another movement from the other corner of the room, and Sakura came into view. They didn’t know she was only wearing a big shirt that barely covered her thighs, and the chat room exploded again.
“Sakura’s so hot, damn..”
“HOY DOG-BREATH, LOOK AWAY!!! STOP HOUNDING SAKURA-CHAN!!”
“YAAAS GET THAT ASS GIRL!!”
“I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS! FOREHEAD IS BANGING OUR BOSS! THAT’S SO HOT”
They watched in awe when the two met in the middle of the room and Sakura tiptoed and wrapped her arms around Sasuke’s neck. Their boss leaned down and held her hips, his face hidden within her pink locks.
The scene didn’t have any audio for their mini audience but even without it, they know the two are speaking in whispers, with Sakura’s head nodding and Sasuke’s hands running over her waist and back as indications. They felt like intruders and most of them almost blushed because of the affection and intimacy, excluding one who definitely passed out under his desk, so they decided to leave the two.
“Let’s leave them alone now, things might get pretty hot. I don’t wanna see my best friend shagging my boss, no matter how proud I am of her.”
“INO-CHAN! WE GOTTA HELP SAKURA-CHAN ESCAPE! WHAT IF HE’S HOLDING HER HOSTAGE???”
“Idiot..”
“Sakura can take me hostage any time though..”
“Wait, I just want to see Boss Uchiha topless before we go!”
--
Sasuke pulled away for a bit to look at Sakura, his birthday girl, and poked her forehead with his two fingers. His two arms wrapped around her waist again after the gesture, “Are you done for today?”
She nodded in affirmative as her hands roam around his shoulders and looped around his neck, “I almost slipped earlier though. They almost knew I have a b-..boyf-”
He smirked. They have been secretly dating for almost 4 months now but she still blushes more than usual when she tries to address him as her boyfriend. He remembered the time he introduced her to his parents as his girlfriend and she was redder than his favorite fruit the entire dinner. That was fun.
She’s his employee, he knows. Sakura’s been working for his company for more than a year now and ever since he laid his eyes on her and saw her potential, wit and charm—he knows she’s his endgame.
It’s been a long pursuit for him, being her boss and all, and her righteous perspective about everything. So when she finally gave in to her own feelings and decided to say yes to being his, he decided to never let Haruno Sakura go. Even if she decides to fight tooth and nail for her freedom from him, he will do the same to keep her. Maybe not as an employee, because that would mean he will be free to take her on lunch dates, but as his lover.
I like that, he thought. Lover.
Sasuke peered at her blushing face, her emerald eyes downcast because of embarassment, her enticing full pink lips on display that she keeps on licking and biting. Sasuke’s eyes twitched because of the sight.
“Annoying,” he almost growled under his breath. Is she aware of her effect on him?
Before she could even ask, Sasuke ducked his head down to press his mouth on hers. His hand went to the back of her head to tilt it a little upwards so he could taste deeper and he was rewarded by the opening of her mouth and the quiet moan that he drank greedily from her.
As much as he wants to call it a night and just bury himself with her and in her, she hasn’t eaten yet because his hard-headed and annoying employee still worked at home on her birthday. He baked a strawberry cake downstairs while she thought he’s busy working with investors on his office. He spent the entire day in his kitchen Facetiming with his mother to guide his baking. He’s never seen his mother so ecstatic because of him.
He came back to his senses when he felt slightly cold hands under his shirt and he fought the urge to throw her onto the bed they have been occupying for the past 2 months of quarantine and just ravish her all night. Sasuke moved both his hands and held her face as he savored more of her lips by a few flicks of his tongue before he gently pulled away.
This might be her second birthday since he knew her, first as her boyfriend, but he feels like he’s known her for a long time. He wants to be there on her birthday every year, forever, as long as she’ll have him. “Happy birthday,” he simply said, tenderly looking at her gorgeous face.
Her smile was blinding and her green irises glimmer against the setting sun. “Thank you, Sasuke-kun,” Sakura softly answered. “I love you so much.”
He pecked her lips again, lingering a bit more, and murmured against her mouth. “Love you.” He felt her smile, and he smiled back.
A small blink from the corner of his eyes got his attention and he noticed the tops of her laptop’s screen with a little light, indicating that the camera is on. Sasuke turned to Sakura, “Go downstairs and wait for me. Let’s eat dinner. I’ll just take a shower.”
Sakura nodded and happily skipped across the room and slipped outside the bedroom to wait for him downstairs. Sasuke stood for a moment looking at the door and slowly walked toward his, their, dresser. He took off his t-shirt and tossed it carelessly on the floor. He took a deep breath and finally approached Sakura’s computer on the side.
He clicked the program that runs the conference call and was greeted by her team’s shocked faces. He saw one window where Rock Lee was supposed to be but he didn’t see anyone aside from the crooked angle of the camera and are those his feet under the table? He scoffed inwardly. Guess you’ll give up pursuing her now. She’s mine.
He did a lazy sweep of his dark eyes one by one on their faces and remembered them in the future if they decide to blame Sakura for not telling this secret. Of course, they both wanted to show the world that they’re together but they still need to be a little cautious. Yes, they’re her friends and her team, but he’s not gonna be lenient especially when it comes to Sakura.
Sasuke thought the look in his eyes were effective because they all sat a little straighter. His job is now done, and now it’s time to shower so he could celebrate the entire night with Sakura. His spine tingled in anticipation.
He looked directly at the little camera above and gave his signature smirk before he logged out her account and closed Sakura’s laptop. He stretched like a feline and his grin went wider as he stripped for his shower.
Let’s just say it was an interesting first day back at the office the following Monday.

Modern Day Romance
Chapter 1
So I gave up on my other Gaara x Sakura fanfiction lol but it just made me sad to write.  So I’m writing this one and hopefully, it’ll be a little bit more upbeat since I myself and doing better.  I put a lot of myself into this, but I also want to make the best situations for the characters and hope I’ll be in a good relationship one day too!  Just trying to speak into the universe through writing and getting my feelings out there as well cause it has been rough the last few months.  Thought I was doing better but life always has other plans!
Obviously, this is a modern au, but no COVID in this world cause I don’t want it! lol please let me know what you think!  Also planning on the next chapter to be Gaara’s perspective to change up my writing style!
I do not own Naruto!
...
No.  No.  Too short.  Too far away.  Swipe, swipe, swipe.
Sakura laid in her bed looking at the eligible bleachers that were in a 20 mile radius.  The internet had turned into her only means of dating in the last few years.  Having finished her master’s in nursing while working on top of that with her mentor, she finally was ready for a serious relationship.  It was harder than she initially thought.
With the start of summer right around the corner, Sakura was finally ready to get back out there.  She got out of a very serious one-sided relationship back in the winter, right as she was finishing school, that left her devastated beyond repair, or so she thought, but she pushed through and devoted herself to finishing with top marks.  It took a lot of time to get over her ex, but it was worth it.  All those endless nights of crying over her textbooks allowed her to do some real digging and showed her that the person she loved with her whole heart was in fact, not good enough for her.
It was strange getting over someone you thought you loved. For Sakura, it was easy getting over him but the hard part was that she lost her friends in the process.  They had chosen him over her, and it was finally obvious.  That’s what was killing Sakura at the moment.
Earlier that day was Sakura’s day off in what felt like forever.  She was so excited to finally be able to spend time with her friends that she woke up early to be able to make plans with them.  Sakura text Hinata and TenTen first because she knew Naruto wouldn’t answer and she never really was that close to Neji. She had a beach day in mind, she was so pale compared to everyone else she saw because she was always at work or in trying to get some studying in.
It didn’t take too long to get an answer from Hinata, but unfortunately, both girls were busy that day and wouldn’t be able to see her.  Bummed by the news Sakura crawled back into bed not sure what she would do now.  The beach wasn’t worth driving all the way there to pay for just herself.  She decided to lay in bed for a little while longer hoping that she could think of something fun to do by herself.
When Sakura awoke she lazily was scrolling through her social media accounts and saw something that made her heart drop into her stomach.  There on Hinata’s story was her and everyone else already at the beach.  Everyone was smiling and having a good time from what it seemed.  Sakura even noticed a new girl with red hair and glasses that she had never seen before.  Then next to the girl was him.
Sakura made sure after the breakup that she muted everything on social media to help her heal.  She also made a strict rule to never look at any of his profiles because it would just upset her more.  Their relationship was over and there was no going back.  She was getting better.  The sight of his name liking things on Naruto’s page didn’t upset her so much anymore, which was a big sign of progress to Sakura.  In all honesty, Sakura felt okay seeing his face and seeing this new girl that he was clearly with.  She was more upset with her friends. Sure they had been there for her when they first broke up, but this wasn’t the first time that Sakura knew they were all hanging out and didn’t attempt to invite her.
They chose him.  Time to let them go, the voice in her mind said.
This old habit had come back to her within the last year.  A sign to Sakura about how unhappy she was with Sasuke because that voice always tried to warn her about the red flags, but Sakura was too stubborn to listen.  Now it seemed that voice was the only person she talked to anymore.
Why are they doing this?  I thought we all could have gotten along once in a while.  Didn’t he say I should still be friends with them?
Clearly, they don’t think the same way.  You knew your friendship with them had an expiration date.  They’re hurting you.  We don’t let people do that anymore remember?
Sakura weeded through a lot of unhappy thoughts to get where she was today. She made a lot of promises to herself to be stronger than she used to be. Somehow she lost a sense of herself along the way and she would never sacrifice that again no matter who it was, friend or partner.
She closed the app and went to text her best friend Ino.  They were so close and could tell each other everything, but Ino moved away to the city a few years ago and was living life to the fullest in Sakura’s eyes.  She had only met Sasuke once and Sakura didn’t reach out when they broke up anyway.  Ino just seemed so busy to Sakura that she didn’t want to bother her.  She could really use a friend right now.
It seemed like every person she thought of was in a relationship besides herself. Why was dating so hard for her?  Everyone else was clearly doing something she wasn’t.  She never even had a relationship that lasted longer than 6 months.  She couldn’t even go out and meet someone at a bar because now she had no friends to go out with, not that Hinata and TenTen would have gone with her anyway.  All their comforting words came back to her when she first got dumped, was it all a lie?
Sakura was the type of person to say something and mean it.  If she said she’d help then she would even if it was months down the line, she would always keep her word.  Hinata and TenTen promised they would still be friends and hang out, but that only happened once.  A few messages now and again, but Sakura definitely felt a weird shift with Hinata one day.  It had been months after the breakup and Sakura was having a bad day and tried to talk to her about it, but at the mention of Sasuke and how upset he used to make Sakura because he ignored her all the time, Hinata clammed up and almost refused to believe Sasuke would have done something like that.  From that day on, Sakura never brought him up again.
Jumping out of bed, Sakura was already tired of feeling bad for herself.  Anger always helped her move forward.  If they couldn’t be fair and hang out with both of them, then fine, she would find new friends!  No one was ever going to waste her time again!  She got herself ready for a day devoted to things that made her happy.
X
The men in her area left a lot to be desired.  For some reason, the only guys who seemed to like her were incredibly short.  Her not being that tall herself it shouldn’t have bugged her, but with past dates with guys that were short always turned out horrible for her, so she stayed clear.  Any decent guy that she found always seemed to be just too far away or even out of state which irritated her to no end.
The following weeks were a challenge for Sakura.  Matching with a few different guys was exciting, but none seemed too interested in her enough to ask her out and they just ended up ghosting her.  Some were a bit more forward in just coming out and saying they were looking for a casual fling.  At least these guys had the decency to be outright in what they wanted.  Sakura respectfully declined each offer.
Finally, after talking to a nice guy named Zaku, things seemed to be looking up for Sakura.  They talked for about two weeks before he finally asked her out. The date was pleasant enough, but Sakura just didn’t feel that spark that she craved. Maybe it’ll get better, she thought, but alas Sakura had no such luck.
A week passed after the date and Zaku made no effort in saying he wanted to see her again.  It frustrated Sakura to no end.  Here she was giving all the effort once and to have nothing reciprocated.  Sure there was no spark, but she thought it was a good change of pace after being totally obsessive over Sasuke. She thought maybe the guy would like her more, but this is exhausting.  They ended things amicably, but Sakura felt a bit hurt when he didn’t really give a reaction when she said they should see other people.
Since then no one had really caught her attention.  Sure she was matching with guys, but once again they would stop talking to her after a few days.  Sakura was about to give up all hope and just accept that love wasn’t meant for her when a guy named Gaara popped up on her scene.  Now he typically wasn’t her type, but there was something about him that made her want to look at him more.
He was 5’10”, red hair, and had green eyes that were a very close shade to hers.  He seemed to be the polar opposite to her.  He mostly wore dark clothing but in a very tasteful way.  He definitely had his own style and fashion sense which was really refreshing.  Gaara wasn’t smiling in most of his pictures, but the last picture of his profile must have been taken by one of his friends at a party because he was laughing with a guy with big eyebrows who had a funny look on his face.  He looked so handsome and attractive to Sakura in that picture that she instantly liked it.
She quickly realized what she had done and checked over her own profile to make sure nothing was too embarrassing on there.  She tried to think of some cute answers to put on there and some pictures of her over the years.  Nothing was that recent because all the pictures from the last year had been deleted. Looking over the pictures she seemed normal enough, but she was worried that Gaara would think she’s too preppy for him to like her.  The only thing that stood out to her was her music taste.  She did like a few rock bands, so hopefully that would intrigue him.
Sakura hadn’t felt this much attraction for someone in a long time.  She looked over his profile and tried to memorize everything.  She didn’t even care if he was out of state.  Thankfully he was about a 20 minute drive away from where she lived.  The only issue she found with him was that he smoked, but maybe he would be considerate and not smoke around her.  One picture was him sitting by a window reading a book as he was surrounded by many potted cacti.  Sakura could just picture the rest of the room and imagine the two of them spending time together just relaxing.
Don’t do that to yourself.  He didn’t even like you back yet, don’t go imagining things, the voice said.
Sighing, Sakura knew the voice was right.  She always got herself into a mess thinking about things before they happened.  She knew this bad habit caused a lot of problems for herself when she was in a relationship with someone.  She built up this imaginary person in her mind and got upset when they didn’t act that way in real life.  On the other hand, it did help her to see that the guys she was dating weren’t a right fit for her because she was imagining the bare minimum of a decent relationship.
She was about to turn off her phone and do something else with her time, but she got a new notification.  Gaara has matched with you!  See what he said.
With her body moving faster than her mind, she opened the message.
