SCENARIO: NO SKILLS, NO PROBLEM !
Penelope Lemon cannot seem to ever get more skillful at... well, anything! It's made everything more difficult, from interpersonal relationships to holding a steady job, and, as a result, they've had to become quite resourceful, figuring out ways to work harder or smarter than everyone else. Can this unskilled Sim figure out how to hack life and earn some sweet Simoleons?
PENELOPE LEMON ; foodie, loves the outdoors, romantic

trusting them not to drain you dry of all your blood but knowing they could is the whole appeal. btw. they could tear you apart but instead are cradling you so tenderly and tilting your head so delicately so they can absolutely slice into your neck and drink until you’re lightheaded but nothing past that. they are doing this because you are trusting them but you got to this point because they trusted YOU enough to share the moment with you. whatever

Love a self-inflicted time loop. The main character isn’t trapped. They can stop whenever they want. But how can they when things aren’t perfect yet? They can do better than this. They need to try again. They can get it right this time. They just need to try again. They can stop anytime they want. Just one more time. They can fix this. They just need to try again. There are still things to fix. They just need to try again.

A child is having outbursts at school, or at home, or wherever else, on a pretty regular basis. And at some point, someone suggests that they need to learn better coping skills.
They suggest therapy, or maybe there’s even a special program at school. Because yes, better coping skills/self-regulation skills/frustration tolerance really would solve everything, wouldn’t it?
Well those are fine skills to have, to be sure, but more often than not, it’s not what that child (or adult) needs most. What they really need is someone to figure out what’s stressing them out so much and then do something about THAT.
Because it’s not actually weird to be distressed over distressing things. Maybe *you* don’t understand what’s so distressing about school or the grocery store or that new person in the house, but that doesn’t mean *their* distress isn’t legit.
People reeaalllly like to suggest better coping skills for autistic, ADHD, and otherwise ND folks. (Since we already have a diagnosis, it’s that much easier to locate the problem in US.) And what they’re really saying with this an awful lot of the time is, “Can you please stop being so distressed by distressing things because it’s making a lot of work for us and we’re not about to change anything for you.”
So before you put someone in some sort of therapy that will teach them that they’re wrong to be upset about the things that upset them and how to get better at pretending to be okay, maybe consider that you might be expecting them to “cope” with more than they can reasonably be expected to.

Any advice for getting into a creative groove? I really like what I've seen of your work, I have a degree in art but I haven't made anything in a long time and I really want to get back into it
Honestly, a good chunk of it for me is watching other people do creative stuff, often stuff I don't do. I have to be careful when I watch Project Runway reruns because it makes me start frothing and I start doing interior design projects. Sometimes finding an artist who's really engaged and excited to be working on whatever it is that they do is enough to trigger a similar creative fuel, even on something totally unrelated.
Sometimes when I'm in a creative slump, what I need to do is just clean, organize, and pretty up my workspace. I have some dedicated space in my home now, but even before then, when my workspace was portable or just a corner of my apartment, getting all my tools and desk space ready, with no project in mind, helped me feel more excited about creating. If your workspace is uninviting, your mind is not going to feel invited to work. You don't have to spend money on this, just take what you have and get it set up nicely.
Also just...make something stupid and low-effort and silly. If it's been a while then don't start with something big and serious. Get some pipe cleaners and googly eyes and go to town with em. Make a little cardboard marionette. Get one of those five dollar craft kits and turn it into something it's not supposed to be. Just make something. It doesn't need to be good. It doesn't need to be important; it doesn't need to be interesting. You just need to make something, and the process of doing the work is likely to spark some other idea in your head.
Work with a buddy! Schedule yourself an evening with a friend to do a Bob Ross painting together, or to watch a movie while you both sculpt something out of air-dry clay or do whatever art you're both into--again, doesn't have to be good--and the social pressure is likely to help you along.
But overall--don't wait for creativity to strike; don't wait for a perfect idea. Just make something; then do that again. The rest will follow.

that urban legend about the german soldiers in wwii who knew they had a british spy in their midst and were pretty sure they knew who it was but the guy did everything perfectly exactly as a german would until one day they were surveilling him as he left to run an errand and as he went to cross the street he looked right-left-right instead of left-right-left the way you should if you’re from a country that drives on the right side of the road is exactly how i feel when i know a fic author is british but i can’t prove it until they slip up in their woke up married in vegas au and write something like the person didn’t notice they even got married until they reached down to move the gear shift and saw the ring on their hand on the stick

Looking up art tutorials on Youtube is the worst because for every video that has a nice descriptive title like "tips for doing x thing" or "drawing x tutorial" there's a dozen other videos titled shit like "you SUCK at drawing x thing!" and the thumbnail with have "This one mistake is RUINING your LIFE" in big red text and there will be an arrow pointing at some art labelling it "fuckhead idiot drawing made by some dipshit" and then you click on the actual video and it spends two minutes going "boy i sure did struggle to draw before i knew this one tip. drawing was soooo hard. My life would have been sooo much easier if i knew this thing" and then when it gets to the actual tip it's always just some variation on like. "heh. you gotta practice lots 🥴".
