I literally do not know what happened here-
But also! Good opportunity to remind y'all that just because you know someone who's in a wheelchair or uses mobility aids doesn't mean that you can't be a raging ableist! Not all disabled people have the same abilities. I know that this person is trying to bait me into saying what disabilities I have, but I don't owe them any of that information because it's private and they don't get to know that. Have a lovely day!
Image ID:
all of the pictures are a series of YouTube comments in chronological order. The first one (the original comment) was posted 4 weeks and reads:
"Oh my God ok so I live in a small town that's right next to Utah and let me fuuuucking tell you. At the time I worked at the Christa McAuliffe Space Education center (which by the way you should seriously look into the fascinating culture behind space simulators in Utah. There are like four within a 100 mile radius.) And as it was an imerssive space experience, we all were really worried about the loss of customers. We all followed the story Super closely. It was fucking wild. Anyways, there's also literally nothing to do in Utah. Thanksgiving point is phenomenal but it's in the middle of buttfuck nowhere"
The comment has 128 likes and 11 replies.
The next picture is a reply from another person. The date, username, and part of the pfp are cut off. The comment reads:
As some one who lives in Utah you saying there's "literally nothing to do in Utah' is false. You don't have to like it here, but come on. Of course there's things to do here (rolling eyes emoji) You act like we don't have an amusement park, aquarium, a shit ton of skiing & snowboarding shenanigans, Sundance Flim Festival (which I rarely spend money at and walk away with my bags full of free shit), Park City, Hogle Zoo, Aviary, our IMAX Theatre/Clark Planetarium, Wendover is only 90 min away, Lakes for fishing/boating/jet skis, etc, camping & hiking ALL OVER, 5 fucking national parks, & tons of arcades & escape rooms & whatnot. God you just made me so mad for no reason (laughing crying emoji)
The comment has one like.
The next image is a reply from the original commenter that reads:
Lol I'm in a wheelchair man. Most of the stuff you listed is not possible for me. No reason to get so pressed about someone else's comment. Just cuz I don't like it here does not affect your ability to do so
The next image is a reply from the same person that reads:
my mom is in has a Walker & uses a wheelchair depending on the day & we have even gone camping with her.. I'm not sure Ibelieve you when you say you haven't done the stuff I listed? She's been to almost all those places with me (not Park City-those streets are hella steep!)
The next image is a reply from the original poster that reads:
Believe it or not, different disabled people have differing levels of mobility and just because one disabled person can do something doesn't mean another disabled person can do it.
The next image is from the same person that reads:
Probably much to your disbelief I'm 100% aware that people have different disabilities that not only affect them differently but mean that they can't necessarily do what everyone else can do. It's almost like have lived with a physically disabled mother & had a job where I did activities with disabled teenagers (this included mental and/or physical disabilities.) So is there a specific reason you're so triggered by my responses or is there something else? I listed some activities that are here in Utah & you said due to your disability you couldn't do them & I stated my mother has done several of them with me in a wheelchair & instead of further explaining anything you keep being defensive? Any specific reason?
The next comment under that in the same image is from the original commenter and it reads:
I'm confused about why you're so upset about a random disabled stranger on the internet saying that they can't physically do a lot of things in Utah Imao.
End ID.

Okay uhm - I need to say this because I am noticing this a bit in the responses to Somerton's "Apology" video. Do people really think, just because ableism in the workplace is forbidden, that workplaces don't discriminate?
Even if insurance stuff covers your health issues, I won't put it past an employer to let you go with the made up argument it doesn't. Because non-epileptic people are generally very uncomfortable with seeing seizure activity and some of them will prioritize their comfort over sticking to anti-discrimination laws.
I think Somerton's video is full of BS, but I am even more uncomfortable with how happy people are to dismiss Somerton's medical history/symptoms, just so they can argue against him. As if people with disabilities can be absolved for being dicks by accepting their stated medical and discrimination history.
When you don't even have to do so to point out the harm Somerton's logic does?
I mean - I think it's warranted to question James' statements because of his complicated relationship with telling the truth, but I am just kind of bothered by how people argue "this could not have happened because laws/policies" No. Let it have happened. It makes his apology worse if you choose to believe him on this, trust me.
If our response to disabled people acting terrible (stealing other people's material and presenting it as your own), is to accuse said disabled people of lying about their symptoms and diagnosis, I think we are missing the point and problem.

This was really difficult to record. I know I’ll get a ton of hate for this, but it was a necessary step in healing. Your likes and supportive comments on the video would be much appreciated. 🩷💙💚🧡

I'm still mad about how I made a well-thought-out post on here about how I love being childfree but do worry about how I'm going to get my needs met when I'm old and disabled, and I had to delete the whole thing because over a hundred people thought it was cool to reblog it with tags saying "lol I'll just kill myself." Like first of all, do not attach "better to be dead than disabled" content to my posts. And second of all, when someone posts about a problem, don't suggest suicide as the solution to their problem! It really sucks and if you were one of my followers who did that, you should unfollow me because I hate you.

i think online grocery/food delivery services need to put way more info on their sites. in my experience it's often missing nutrition/ingredient information, which is crucial for so many folks, especially folks who can't go to these places in person. if we can go in a grocery store and read a label, or go to a restaurant and look at a menu, we deserve an equivalent experience online

When I post voidstar lore videos on Tik Tok, I try to include a sticker with my pronouns because I know my voice sounds pretty feminine and the audience for those videos is usually not the same as my other content where it's a bit more obvious that I'm queer. An unanticipated result of this is how often transphobes get confused by it though. there's a debate going on in the comments section of one such video about weather I have xe/they pronouns or weather it's the alien in the artwork being drawn "with pronouns" (and weather that matters). I usually just try to delete comment chains like that but this one has been pretty funny to watch unfold.
Unfortunately this is the one time the Tik Tok anti-bullying filter seems to be doing its job because the funniest of the comments keep disappearing very shortly after they post them. I'm disappointed that one comment in particular seems to have been deleted: In response to someone calling me insane for being "a xe/they" someone responded with "it's a 20ft tall alien furry but the neopronoun is where you draw the line?" 😂

I don't know why I ever try to convince babsgirl babs fans that they're talking out of their asses when it comes to her character and the weak justification for it being rep for invisibly disabled people* like it never goes anywhere. It's just I like this comic so how can this be bad writing or bad rep?
* I was invisibly disabled for a long time, my disability is still way more similar to babs retconned disability than her paralysis, but I don't praise it for rep bc I still recognize dcs ableist bullshit when I see ur

adding to my tags because i’ve been thinkin a lot about the post i just reblogged and have more thoughts:
i’ll be real, the more i saw ‘hey adhd influencers are so annoying’ the more i worried that i was unconsciously contributing to the spreading reputation of adhd folks as annoying and over-pathologizing every symptom they experience
and then i realized. i am not a goddam influencer or life coach or representative. obviously i have some obligation as someone who cares about myself and the people that like my comics to not spread harmful ideology or blatant misinformation but i never intended myself to be a “’increase your productivity!!’ blog OR a ‘if you have XYZ you have adhd!’ blog. and i do this for fun, and originally started this blog bc i had a lot of internalized shame and self loathing about my adhd and thought if i could make it funny i might have less of that. let’s get real! and it worked!
i’ve obviously done this kind of thing— (hey these symptoms might be adhd!) a lot before in my life & on this blog, but there’s more to it than trying to be an “influencer” or whatever. a term that didn’t even exist when i started this blog!
i felt very isolated trying to find out if i had any mental problems & what have you originally because of large advice (etc) blogs with staunchly anti self Dx views at the time
so i overcorrected when i DID get dxed and tried to validate everyone who was like me. and of course. not the best course of action always for the ol mental health. tried to be the source of positivity and jokes that i didn’t see because the online adhd presence was near non-existent.
and anyway. i make a lot of fun of myself & the way m brain works in my comics obviously but it is not my obligation to... how do you say.... not be annoying online.
because if folks interpret MY little jokes as a strict guide to diagnosis. that’s on them, really, not me. i also believe “making adhd your entire personality” is a non-issue. so what if people find out they have it and get over excited with identifying as adhd. saying this as someone who DID do it. criticism of this gives the same vibes as people being annoyed that young queers make “being queer” their whole personality. im very obviously more than a guy with adhd, and id reckon other adhd comic artists are too. (im friends with a lot of them!) it’s fine to post about it online.
anyway. i just don’t take myself too seriously and i’m a comic artist for myself first! and you know what, i’ve been considered annoying my entire life. what do i care if a few more folks think i’m annoying. neurotypical or not
#i think the article did have some good points especially on the capitalism and marketing angle but i oft think it did venture into#being mad at individual folks who post jokes about adhd. which is literally fine thats what an opinion piece is for lol#i am just very tired of people pretending that a lot of reaction to online adhders is not in itself just an extension of the ableism#we already were facing#'adhd people are so annoying everyone does this youre pathologizing everything' ok and how exactly are you helping.#i hesitate to throw my hat in with hating on adhd tiktok because i am simply not on tiktok and have no way to back up my thoughts#that they may be annoying and oversimplifying a complex disorder on the 'drains your attention span' website.#and i think perhaps the value of each adhd resource varies widely depending on who made it and what theyre even posting.#sometimes its a joke made by a person with adhd. sometimes its sourced and cited research. sometimes its someone discussing their personal#experiences in depth. sometimes its someone talking completely out of their ass. sometimes its THINLY veiled ableism.#its up to the individual to research and determine the value of the memes and resources you seek#anyway. perhaps these points are tough to clarify on sites like insta and twitter. bless.#text#adhd#im punk now#oh and yeah i also agree lots of folks do not talk about the unsavory parts of adhd but rather the funnies and the sillies. but that is#once again a larger capitalism and marketing and ableism problem#r we not talking about them because we are actively trying to infantalize this disorder or is it because we collectively experience a lot#of internalized ableism and hesitate to talk about our worst symptoms for fear of the backlash#weve always gotten about them 🤔🤔🤔#much to consider#if youve read this far sorry for tangent number 56 about this. but also start being more unapologetic about your disorders. fuck it!#<3

the thing about tumblr is someone will make a post like ‘autistic/adhd people are stupid and use their disability as an excuse’ and you’re meant to find that funny and not be offended

found the awful poll about your partner suggesting polyamory and another sort of bigoted idea I see a lot in the notes is that like poly people aren’t serious about relationships or they’re just talking about online relationships or whatever which is wild like we live in such different realities 🤷‍♀️ i feel like poly people i know myself included generally devote way more of their life to their partners than mono people do like if anything it’s a lifestyle for people who take relationships more seriously than anything else???

Smth only tangentially related that I've been meaning to post for a while: I've noticed lately just how much ableist rhetoric is Totally Okay to use in jokes on here as long as its directed at autistic people and/or people with ADHD because "this is the autism website" or whatever. I think people spend so much time in very specific small circles that they forget that like, these are actual disabilities that affect people in real life and making fun of them is still ableism. Mockery of social behaviors like "not being able to order your own food as an adult", mockery of light sensitivity, mockery of tone tags, culminating quite beautifully really with that qrt of a tweet about ADHD with "omg you people can't do anything" (a post whose notes are full of people "well I have ADHD and I can do-" as if that's not recognized as the most useless form of "advice" for disabled people. Not everyone is you). And I don't really care if these are "jokes" made by other neurodivergent/disabled people, they still downplay people's experiences and are just based in being MEAN to an extremely vulnerable group of people who have to go through so much already. Idk I've never really found any of it funny and at this point I refuse to partake in any of it. I <3 being unable to order my own food and getting overstimulated on Halloween and you're just going to have to deal with it
