Can you clarify what you mean by "archive binge functionality"?

there used to be a website called archive binge. there's still a website called archive binge but it's a completely different thing now. comic-rocket took the code from the original archive binge and as far as i can tell they're the only ones that have it. this is deeply unfortunate because as far as i can tell comic-rocket is borderline abandoned and i will die without it.

anyway: it crawls an archive (it's designed for webcomics but imho there's no reason it couldn't work for all kinds of serials) and creates a drip feed based on your specifications. so when i find a new webcomic i activate archive binge on comic rocket and it creates an rss feed that sends one new comic to my rss reader every day. instead of sitting and trying to get through the archive in one sitting, or multiple settings, it gets fed to me one page/chapter at a time so it's less overwhelming and easier to fit into my existing routine.

in my ideal world there would be an easy way for websites to have something like this built in instead of using third party tools. or at the very least there would be a third party tool i could self-host to work with all kinds of serial media.

Hot take because something came up on my dash and I’m pissed at it now: exactly why do people think anorexia is hot? You know, the literal mental health condition characterized by self-hatred and self-harm in the form of denying yourself the rights to have food?

This kind of bullshit pisses me off for two reasons. The first is that these people are promoting this dangerous and literally life-threatening condition like it’s a fashion trend, and it’s idiotic and cruel. I know people that struggle with these disorders, and these idiots promoting it ain’t helping them overcome those mindsets in the slightest. The SECOND reason is that it comes back around to the societal concept “thinness equals beauty” and therefor “the thinner you are, the better”.

I am 103 god damn pounds (that’s about 46 kilograms, or 7.3 stone). If that. I have no eating disorders, I am JUST that thin by nature. I want to say the last time I tried to measure my waist I was right at about 26″. All my motherfucking life, I’ve heard it. “You’re so thin!”, “I wish I could look that good!”, “oh my God are you a model?” (yes, someone has actually said this to me). I’ve had my hip bone mistaken for an item in my pocket.

And NO, I DON’T fucking enjoy it. I HATE it. I HATE being compared to people like I belong on some pedestal. I HATE being separated from groups of people because I don’t struggle in the same areas they might, and somehow that means I’m perfect and have no weight-related issues at all. I’m more concerned that I might be ill for not being able to put on or keep any kind of weight. I feel like I’m not allowed to complain because I don’t struggle with the same problems others do. Because I don’t have enough body mass and I get cold really easily. Because I have less padding and get bruised more often. Because laying on hard surfaces is extremely uncomfortable when I’ve got nothing but skin and bone against it. Because it would take absolutely nothing to take me down in a fight. But yeah, go ahead social media and toxic trash, paint us like the most desired beauty standard out there. That isn’t going to fuck up all people’s views of body types and beauty standards, obviously.

Thinking about Edward Elric as the Amestrian Military's specialest little unfireable boy

State alchemists can be fired for underperforming. We know this up front from the likes of Shou Tucker. And this makes a ton of sense from the homunculi's standpoint since the state alchemists are sacrifice candidates, and the homunculi would want to cull the weakest candidates and focus only on cultivating the strongest ones who stand the best chance of opening the portal.

........Then there's Edward. Who's already opened the portal.

There's no need to cultivate him. No gamble taken on whether he's good enough to open the portal. He passed the final test already. Graduated 4 semesters early.

And as such, has a free pass to do Absolute Fuck All.

Some newish state alchemist who'd only ever read up on the stories of Edward Elric, ready and excited to start their career of being paid handsomely with endless freedom to research and travel and do anything they want in the pursuit of science... surprised and confused to find themselves put on probation their first month for things like "ignoring orders." Which is, as best they had thought, a famous Edward Elric pastime.

Roy showing a slight bit of stress about his yearly state alchemist report, and Ed just snorting and rolling his eyes at Roy because every year HE just hastily does his on the train ride over (canon in the manga, a travesty it was left out of the anime) and it gets rubber stamped. Ed not realizing that other alchemists' reports get genuinely scrutinized and torn apart while Ed is free to turn in whatever absolute bullshit he thinks of 36 hours ahead of time. One year his report was about whether alchemy could be done via dance (conclusion: no it can't) and no one cared. Roy WANTS to tell Ed there's some kind of unknown favoritism around Ed making him literally bullet-proof but Roy has no way to phrase this that doesn't sound like he's just in denial and mad at how good Ed's train-reports are.

Guy from the Internal Amestrian Affairs sector who's responsible for auditing other internal military personel for any suspicious activity hitting about 1 million red flags for Edward Elric, issuing a STRONG and URGENT recommendation to suspend the alchemist pending further investigation into things like "literal bunk-buddies with two members of the Xingese royalty (enemy nation)" and "spent $10,000,000 of his stipend on a librarian to make her re-copy (what he seemed to interpret as?) military records in some extremely transparent effort to unearth state secrets (it was a recipe book but he was literally asking her about state secrets)" and "literally has never once obeyed an order, ever, not even once in his career, and is on public record having said 'I do not care about the goals and protections of the Amestrian Military. I am in fact only pursuing my own interests several of which are diametrically opposed to the safety and well-being of the governing body of Amestris'"

The issued recommendation is intercepted before it even reaches its intended desk. President Bradley himself has taken issue with it and denies it before a single set of eyes has seen it. The President's veto stamp is a terrifying hammer, used rarely, and it is now sitting on the auditor's desk.

The auditor sleeps with one eye open from then on out.
