Panel - 1
“Udai-san, this part and this one need to be reworked.”
“Which one?”
The guy with shoulder-length curly hair shifted, almost sending his chair to fly closer to the serious, glasses-guy. His face serious and his tone polite and organized, while beside him, the curly guy in his hoodie is casually listening to everything he says like an obedient puppy.
“The monologue is too long. It seems unnecessary and a waste of time. That’s it from me.”
“Akaashi-san, don’t you at least have something nicer to say to me?”
“That was the nicest I could be.”
“Geh.”
The curly black haired guy was, Udai Tenma, next to him was Akaashi Keiji, the editor.
Akaashi sighs, “There is also one thing I couldn’t agree with on the next page.”
“Which one?”
“This one.”
Following the editor’s finger pointing at a panel, Udai seriously listened to the way Akaashi specified the whole scene as ‘overly exaggerated’.
“It’s either you come up with another idea to picture the entire event, or you find another way not to make this panel look like this.”
In other words, a just-cut-it-out-of-the-page-and-good-luck-coming-up-with-something-more-worth-publishing.
“Do you think so?”
A confirmation from Akaashi had Udai nod in understanding. He takes his phone out and notes down everything the editor said while casually listening and answering what he needs to answer.
After Akaashi wrapped the discussion up, Udai casually decides, “Alright. I’ll hand it in in two days.”
“No can do.”
“Eehhh?” Staring at the editor’s serious face, Udai insistsing, “Why not?”
The editor sighed before he starts, “You have a fansign next month for this edition. Everything has to be published by the end of this month. I can only accept tomorrow at the latest, at seven in the morning.”
Udai started to whine, dropping his head on the table after Akaashi made a decision on the deadline. But to what end, though? The deadline had been decided and the dearest charming editor, Akaashi Keiji, is simply someone too savage to give a damn about anything when it comes to the deadline.
In the end, Udai did have to work hard to finish the latest edition of the manga tomorrow morning at the required hour.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Udai-san.”
Udai, with a helpless languid look, while hugging the manuscript sheet that Akaashi had corrected, turns around and stares at his editor pityingly. Still having a little determination to negotiate with the charming editor until there is a more humane leniency from him. He put on his most pathetic face in front of the editor, basically trying his best.
“If you understand, please go home and start working.”
Snorting, Udai jerks himself out of the room like some cranky bear, nearly flying, a little uprising against the unfair working hours. Or perhaps, he just hadn’t yet realized that everything is the result of his amazing skill to procrastinate and pile up all his work at one time, forgetting that he is only human and not a manga printing machine that can be pushed to go the extra mile.
But really, drawing is fun.
Since a long time ago, drawing had been an escape from fear, boredom, anxiety, and some random feelings that oftenly creeped up on him.
Whenever those unfamiliar, unpleasantly all too familiar feelings creeped into his mental frame, he would always tear up a piece of paper and start doodling. About anything. Whatever his eyes caught, or whatever his head imagined, or about some places wherever his brain took him to.
In the subtle sound when his pencil met the paper, there was the peace that flushed through, and it almost felt like he was in the heart of a serene forest. Then the chaos inside him would slowly die down.
There is peace in drawing.
Then here he was, back to the room where almost over twenty volumes of his manga were born. In a room where his pen met several strokes of paper in definite or indefinite lines, where his pen met the screen of his computer at busy hours before all those stories were brought to life as some book, namely manga, working for another extra special hour.
Udai Tenma was not a familiar name before the Zombie Knight Zom'bish manga became as famous as it is now. He was just a normal citizen, an ordinary guy living within the framework of a normal story somewhere in Tokyo.
Although he no longer yearns for those days, for those who still remember, they might recognize him better by a nickname other than his real name. Call it The Little Giant.
With that name, youths familiar with the volleyball of his day would immediately raise an eyebrow, amused, welcoming with a sky-rocketing expectation in the face of that particular figure who in his days was revered for his outstanding ability despite a fairly obvious weakness. The very figure to conquer the orange court of the famously annual national’s spring high volleyball tournament with some player known as the crows.
But those days are over.
Just like the beginning of a fiction novel, the past was left behind and the reader moves on to the next chapters, looking forward to what might lie ahead.
Udai Tenma is one of those readers who diligently turns the pages of the life story that fate had written for him.
His days as the little giant had come to an end when he decided to turn to the next chapter. Now, he is in the chapter where he is just the ordinary Udai Tenma, the manga artist Udai Tenma, living up to the result of his hard work creating over twenty volumes of manga, and is currently and will always be struggling with deadlines from his editor.
———————————————————
Udai-san, the deadline is tomorrow by seven am in the dot. Please don’t be late.
———————————————————
Udai grimaced as he read Akaashi’s message from the notification bar of his phone.
It’s not that he will pretend to be on a temporary memory-lost something funnier.
He is working hard.
Despite almost swallowing some of his curly strands as his mouth is busy munching some chips, his hands are busy working on what he had to fix on the entire panel.
“That damn Akaashi really is a dictator. He’s such a sadist. He really is one.”
His hands take a slight pause, scooping up a handful of chips that are almost gone on the other side of the table and feeding himself. He is busy. Very busy. Munching and working on those panels at the same time.
********************************************************
Udai could barely finish the latest volume of his Zombie Knight Zom'bish.
He grimaced at the fact that the editor is a sadistic perfectionist who alwa time, valuing time too much.
Of all the things that made him grimace more was how Akashi was always she looked like a pathetic misfit every time he handed in a new script.
At first glance, while waiting for Akashi to finish scanning the revised panels with his eagle eyes that always demanded the best of the best that he, as the artist, could come up with, Udai's feet shuffled anxiously under the table as his brain roamed, thinking about whether Akashi Keiji had ever once looked as pathetic as himself right now.
When Akashi Keiji is working as an editor, the room will be so quiet that Udai swears he could hear a needle dropping from the next room. Udai was even convinced that the charming editor had stppped breathing to look for mistakes that aren't worth publishing, to make sure that they wouldn't slip away from his eyes. But honestly, if anything, Udai couldn’t ask for someone better than Akaashi Keiji of all people.
One of the reasons would be that, "There are chips in the second drawer."
Udai had a bad habit of biting his finger as he waited patiently for the dearest editor to do his job scanning over the revised book. And Akashi, surprise surprise, apparently had gotten used to that bad habit of the manga artist, so, amusingly, he prepared the chips in his drawer. Knowing well that the artist had a high level of addiction to msg.
There will always be only a chip in the drawer and that's for Udai.
The curly-haired guy swears that Akashi is probably a hero who only ate healthy food on a daily basis, probably had been sworn over whatever good and bad throughout the heavens and the earth that he shouldn't eat chips.
Witnessing the way Akaashi Keiji being such a perfectionist that he is, making Udai almost lost the last trace of worthiness in himself.
If Akaashi Keiji is just a normal human being, then it should be that Udai Tenma is just a trash.
"Akaashi-san, you're indeed the most understanding person I've ever met in my life."
"Please eat something more proper at home, Udai-san."
Munching, Udai glanced at Akashi and replied, "I eat properly. It's just that, it's not complete if I don't get chips in a day. It's like my brain's freezing."
He held the chips solemnly in his lap while gazing out the window of Akashi's room.
Tokyo was slowly getting to start its bustling, busy morning as he would soon take a rest after this all was over.
"If you eat chips and work hard for the next volume, I don't have anything to say."
"I eat chips while working."
"You've always been on more chewing terms than drawing."
"For the record, I came just in time before the deadline, Akaashi-san. Let's not forget about that."
Udai ignored that Akashi sighed just after he spoke. It was the loudest and clearest he ever heard.
It was quiet for some time until Akaashi turned the last page and all the checks were completed.
Glancing at the table, Udai was still half-chewing when he asked, “Are you finished, Akaashi-san?”
Akaashi confirms, then adds, “If there are no obstacles, the publication will proceed as scheduled.”
Udai nods, “I guess I can rest now.”
“Please.”
Udai almost complains, but instead he helps himself to stand up and excused himself. “Then. I’ll go home and rest. Ja ne, Akaashi-san. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Udai had stepped away when Akaashi called out. So he stopped and turned back to the editor who immediately greeted him with a question.
“Are you free on the weekend?”
Udai frowns. He did not expect such a question coming from a guy at all.
“This weekend?”
Akaashi showed two tickets to Udai who was increasingly confused about what he was dealing with. “I got extra tickets for the theater show on the weekend.”
Udai paused for a moment, trying to figure out the best response in the midst of his confusion. Wait a minute. “We’re... going together?”
“No. I’m busy this weekend.”
Of course.
Udai feels betrayed by Akaashi’s flat, nonchalant answer. Something so obvious shouldn’t have been said out loud like that. And how do he explain this… he feels rejected and uncomfortable as his head went everywhere, to the most ridiculous things he could think of.
“You can go with anyone with those tickets.”
“Anyone?”
“Anyone. Someone of your friends or maybe your girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend?”
Then Akaashi’s question came like a bolt of lightning, “You don’t have something like that?”
Udai laughed blandly. “No.”
His laughter was gone but a smile was forced to line his lips when he rewarded the editor with a more or less the same question. “Why don’t you take your girlfriend instead?”
“I told you I’d be busy this weekend.”
Udai was caught off guard. He was half taken aback when he asked, “You have a girlfriend, Akaashi-san?”
“Yes.”
“Eeeehh? But who?” It would not be an exaggeration to say that Udai was almost shrieking at that surprisingly unexpected fact.
But on the other hand, Akaashi was too casual about it.
“Of course it’s none of your business.” The editor responded. This time he added, “If you can’t take these tickets, you’d better go home and rest. Please reduce your eye bags by getting enough sleep and eating regularly. Your fansign is next month, Udai-san.”
Udai laughed, he shook his head as he said, “Akaashi-san, you must have been a strict nerd with an angelic heart.”
“Thank you. I don’t know if I have ever been a nerd for even once.”
“Geeeh.”
Akaashi’s brows lifted, watching the curly-haired manga artist, “hm?”
Udai turned after bowing very politely to Akaashi, forcing the editor to return the bow properly. He then excused himself politely and closed the door very quietly. Weekly Shonen employs one hell of an editor and it’s Akaashi Keiji.
********************************************************
After a long and fairly strict process, the 22nd volume of Zombie Knight Zomb’ish was finally released. Reader responses were varied, but positive responses dominated. Then after all the process was over, the long awaited fansign that had been scheduled had come.
If asked about how familiar he is with fansigns—given that he is a manga artist—then Udai would honestly say that to this day he is still unfamiliar with some interaction with fans or fan service in modern words.
At his first fansign, Udai barely said anything and just kept his head down, focusing on the part where the fans came to ask him to sign their books. It wasn’t until Akaashi came whispering to him, telling him what he should say and do when his fans came, that Udai improved.
It wasn’t just a newfound nervousness. Since long time ago, Udai had never been very good with people. He had never really grasped the full feeling of being attached to his surroundings. Or maybe, he had, but only briefly.
Today, however, as the manga artist Udai Tenma, when he was confronted with fans lined up to wait their turn for just a few seconds with him, he had to overcome that weakness of his.
Sitting behind the the table was Udai, dressed more neatly than usual: not in a hoodie or plain t-shirt wrapped in his usual dark jacket, but in a light blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up. His hair, well... his hair remained in its usual style. Only, this time, he tried his best to avoid Mr. Akaashi always-demanding-the-best-of-what-one-can-give Keiji protests by styling his hair a bit neater.
From beside the desk where he sat, it was Akaashi who stood watching him like an owl from time to time.
“Good afternoon, thank you for coming and reading Zombie Knight Zomb’ish!”
In front of him was a quiet middle school student, reminiscent of the days when he was a student: the aloof, hostile, not really stood out, high-schooler Udai Tenma.
Udai wrote down that fan’s name after he spelled it and signed in the same place as where he signed it to the fan before him after learning that he had no special requests. Just like that, the youngster excused himself quickly from the spotlight. Udai was intrigued by the bit of the past that the fan brought before him, catching a little fragment of himself that used to hate attention in more or less the same way.
His smile lingered as he greeted the next fan who was surprisingly excited to meet him. Without prompting, she expressed her thoughts on his work. It was always pleasant to hear some people express their likeness about how good his works are, but to hear someone passionately declare an addiction to his work was something quite ridiculous and amusing.
Just before security let the next fan in, from behind came Akaashi who commented, “At least that person won’t be having an msg overdose.”
Udai still had a chance to reply, “Come on! It’s not that I’m addicted to some weirder things.”
“Alright. Please turn around and say hello to your fans, Udai-san.”
Udai returned to being the manga artist his fans had been eager to meet.
“Good afternoon. Thank you for coming and thank you for always reading Zombie Knight Zomb'ish!”
Udai didn’t expect that someone would talk about anything other than how much they loved and appreciated his work. He did not expect that the day would come when one of his fans would say something about him.
“Seeing you in person really amazed me. You have a very handsome face and a very sweet personality.”
“Eh?”
Udai almost stopped when he realized that of all people, he was the one who objected most to what was said about him instead of feeling grateful that one of his many fans was saying nice things about him in person. No, instead he was amused at himself blushing over the unsubstantiated accusation.
He swore he wanted to say something in his defense if only their time was not up and he had to attend to the next fan immediately. In the end, in a low tone under his breath, Udai said, “You must have the wrong person.”
Behind him, he caught an amused huff that made him take the time to slightly threaten the dreamy editor through his gaze. He had just enough time to return before the next fan arrived, more than enough to hear how the first thing the fan noticed was that the very editor standing behind him had a cute face.
That was definitely not something new. It was no secret that Akaashi had a charming face that attracted attention from the moment Udai first met him. As a man, Udai admitted that Akaashi had everything that made him worthy of being called a handsome man: a certain amount of coolness, a charming face, a serious and hardworking tendency in everything he did, a dexterity that he picked up from his days as a setter at one of Tokyo’s powerschools, and a fashion sense that was definitely a ladies’ delight. But definitely not with how fans express Akaashi Keiji in their dictionary.
Udai swore that he desperately had to hold back his laughter when the fan said that Akaashi looked like a baby owl.
If only Udai had enough time to pull out his cell phone, he would have taken a picture of Akaashi blushing. A super rare sight.
From then on, after the fansign, Udai started bringing up the fan’s words. It was clear to see how the strict editor Akaashi Keiji was caught off-guard by a fan praising him out of the blue.
At lunchtime, Udai didn’t stop teasing Akaashi about it, being so serious when stating that soon, the editor might be getting his own fans, or might soon be holding his own fansign considering that, at the end of the fansign, some fans had gathered and questioned whether the editor-san could get into the photo.
After quite happily colonizing Akaashi with the childishness he suddenly developed at the last minute, Udai excused himself and went to the toilet.
When he finished, Udai was walking at a leisurely pace. But fate wrote something different by still making him bump into someone even at the most leisure pace he took, even when he made sure that he paid attention to his surroundings this time.
Right in front of the corridor, a cell phone fell to the floor, followed by its owner he had just bumped into who immediately bent down to apologize and immediately followed to pick up her cell phone at the same time as Udai who also rushed to grab the phone for her.
Udai did not immediately get up when his eyes caught something he did not expect. Something unfamiliar yet familiar and warm in his memory. He stopped when the person he bumped into walked past him.
The sound of her footsteps gradually moving further away from her back, then stopped.
Seconds slowed in his world. The bustling sounds of the shopping center were drowned out by the silence that suddenly erupted through this unexpected coincidence. His heartbeat slowed down as if accounting for every second that passed. Inside his head, questions about this and that swirled around. He was not exaggerating anything to say that his world had once a blizzard. When the voice came, the snow in his world melted away, forcibly driven away with the unfamiliar warmth of spring bursting from the bottom of his chest when the voice rang in his ears.
“Udai... san?”
There were a few seconds that he missed before he helped himself to turn around, welcoming a presence he never dared to expect to be anywhere before his eyes.
His world turned into a black and white panel as all the color he knew returned to the girl.
“You’re... Udai-san, right? Udai Tenma-san. Right?”
Udai knew what name he would call, what he would say when his senses reconnected with that presence. Her.
He swallowed, swallowing all the feelings that came together in this unexpected encounter, trying to stem them with a little courage to open his voice.
“Sasaki?”
Sasaki Tsubasa, the one who is staring at him with a glimmer of newly flushed pleasure in her eyes. Her smile amused. Her eyes warm. Steadily, not awkward like him, she helped herself to face him properly.
“Oh. It’s really you, Udai-san.”
The time her smile bloomed, his world that once was a black and white panel, turned colorful. Just like when cherry blossoms bloomed during the first day of spring, she was there to color everything again.
“Thankfully, I didn’t get the wrong person.”
next chapter coming soon.

Killed for Sport (Tsukishima Assassin AU)
"Should I ask you why you have a knife strapped to your leg?"
"It's a dagger actually. And no, you shouldn't." The blonde female glared at the blond male while answering. "And don't act so surprised Kei, you have a gun on yourself ." She continued.
Smirking, the boy reached into his jacket and pulled out a gun. "Well, would you look at that? Are you by any chance psychic Tsukishima?"
No sooner did he say those words than he felt the tip of the dagger against his neck. "Call me that again and I will not hesitate to slit your neck. It's (Y/N)." she snarled. "Just because your father decided to fuck around with my mom doesn't mean we're related."
Her actions didn't make him flinch — not one bit.
Pushing her hand away he dusted his suit and walked past her like it was nothing, "Oh darling sister, that fucking around is the reason you were born in the first place."
He wasn't wrong, clearly he knew it and she knew it too which is what ticked her off. Gripping the dagger in anger, she slowly put it back on her leg and walked behind him.
"Just don't interfere with my work or you might accidentally get hurt, big brother." She ended with a tight-lipped smile and narrow eyes, leaving before he could even respond.
Of course none of that had an effect on him either. He simply chuckled in amusement. "I don't need to do much to get on her nerves."
Kei. Kei Tsukishima was one of the top assassins in Tokyo. After all, he did come from the Tsukishima family and they were all raised to be trained assassins. It was more like a family business for them. Naturally, his half sister (Y/N) Tsukishima was also trained and made to do jobs. She was a year younger than him but stood at 5'9 which really ticked him off sometimes, seeing as how she might reach him soon enough.
At the age of 18, he had already made his way to the top, being the best at what he does. The only other person who came close to him in getting the job done was (Y/N) and so he made it his life's mission to be the perfect thorn in her side.
Isn't that what older brothers are supposed to do?
"Tsukki, that wasn't playing nice." A voice called out from behind him. Not turning to look at the person, he simply replies emotionless.
"I never agreed to play nice Yamaguchi."
"Nevermind her, what's our job this time?" He asks the boy swiftly.
Tadashi Yamaguchi wasn't an assassin like his best friend, rather he worked on the sidelines as his assistant — his eyes and ears on all jobs.
He shook his head in disappointment at the change in subject "Our target this time is Mahiru Kurota" he turns the tablet in Tsukishima's direction and shows him the picture of the guy before continuing. "And he's been accused of doping athletes in exchange for money—"
"Doping is common and normal. Why exactly am I being sent to kill this guy?" He broke in, interrupting Yamaguchi. "Tsukki if you let me finish you'd know." He answered in annoyance.
Rolling his eyes, Tsukishima motions him to continue what he was saying earlier. "Soon after their payments, these same athletes are found dead. They're made to look like accidents but....."
"But that might not be the case." Tsukishima ends after listening to him. Yamaguchi nods in affirmation. "So this guy is taking the money and then killing them off. Ahh what a pain, I couldn't care less about those athletes you know. But a job is a job and since I'm being paid—
"500,000 Yen" Yamaguchi inputs.
"Right, so let's get the job done." He went quiet for a second before he continued. "Is there anything else I should know or do?" He asks.
Yamaguchi goes through his the job details before he lifts up his head and answers. "You've been asked to use you status as Volleyball Player in Karasuno to get close to him."
"Fine." He answers simply.
"That about sums it up. He's hosting a party right now, here's your invitation." He hands him an envelope. "And I'll be monitoring you but they're having a body check at the entrance so we cannot put any electronics on you for communication."
Nodding in response Tsukishima makes his way over to the entrance. "Oh and about (Y/N)—" he tries to call out.
"I don't want to listen to anything about her right now. I'm on a job." and with that he starts walking. Stopping short, he takes out the gun he had had in his coat and throws it towards Yamaguchi.
"Don't think I'll be allowed in with that." He said and walks out of view
"Don't tell me later that I didn't try to warn you." Yamaguchi mumbled as he walked back to the parked van he came in.
At the door, a guard asked for his invitation. "You're Kei Tsukishima?" He asks in suspicion. "Isn't that what's written on the invitation?" Tsukishima lowers his eyes at the guard. "Do the work you're assigned to before I have a chat with your boss about these issues."
Taken aback, the guard apologized profusely as he let Tsukishima enter the party. "The boss is in the back room." He added, hoping that this information would let his past mistake slide.
Clicking his tongue, Tsukishima enters, passing all the drunk and euphoric teens before going through the mentioned door.
"— and the girls team might not be as good as the boys team but this year we're sure to win. After all I am trained by the best middle blocker in the school."
A familiar voice was heard talking as soon as he entered. To his horror he saw (Y/N) sitting across Mahiru and having a chat with him. So this was what Yamaguchi had probably been trying to tell me.
When the two of them noticed him standing at he door, Mahiru got up from his seat, "Kei Tsukishima, I presume. So nice to finally meet you in person." He offers his hand for a handshake.
Tsukishima instead ignores him and nods. "Ahem... So right take a seat please and we can work on the contract." He sits beside (Y/N) who's grinning at him evily.
She had probably figured out the fact that he hadn't known she would be here too. "Hello brother, we were just talking about you." she added slyly.
Returning her smile he retorted sweetly, "Yeah, I heard the part where you called me the best middle blocker." Watching the grin wipe off her face gave him satisfaction like no other.
If Mahiru sensed any tension in the conversation between the two of them, he didn't say anything, probably dismissing it as normal sibling banter. "Here's the contract."
He presents two of the same set of papers, passing one over to them and keeping the other one. His hand hovers over the papers he passed to them, "I hope it's alright that the contract for both of you is made together since you're siblings."
"Actually n—" Tsukishima starts to say but she pinched his side which shuts him up but also earns her a glare. "Oh don't worry it's alright." She add sweetly.
The three of them talk about the details— mostly (Y/N), while Tsukishima takes note of their surroundings and commits them to memory. "—and that is all. Please give your signatures if you agree to these terms."
Oh finally we're done with this facade. When (Y/N) kicked him, he focuses back to them and signs the papers. "If that is all then I'll be taking your leave." Tsukishima replied and walked out.
After he left the room was silent for a while before Mahiru turned to her, "Is he always like that?"
"Yeah, perks of being famous and all." She replies waving him off. "Would you like to join me for drinks (Y/N)?" He asks after a pause.
Keeping the disgust off her face, she turns back and smile at him. "Maybe another time, after all I have practice early tomorrow. Can't win without practice now can I?" she chuckles.
"That's why you came to me didn't you?" He asks curiously.
"Well yes, but I still need to put in my effort. Now then, I shall take your leave too."
Tumblr media
The next afternoon (Y/N) was working on the laptop when there came a knock on the door. Without warning, Tsukishima entered, followed by Yamaguchi who was telling him that he should've waited for permission before entering.
"Oh look Yamaguchi, I think she's angry." He said dryly.
"I wonder what gave it away?"
"Well you see you can know her mood by her hands. Like right now, she's holding a gun. I don't think that means she's happy to see us." He stated matter of factly.
She obviously couldn't shoot him. "Not us. You." She added as she put the gun down. "So speak. Why exactly are you interrupting my precious time?"
"Don't talk as if you were doing anything important." He rolled his eyes, "we need to work on this together— I'm not happy either, but we do so just do what I say and we'll get this over with."
She looked at him in disbelief. "Keep your male dominance to yourself. We're doing it my way."
Obviously they would get nowhere with this fight so he decided to humour her for the time being. "How exactly did you enter with that knife?" He asked, changing the subject.
"Dagger." She corrected, "and Yachi took it from me when she gave me the invitation and news that I had to work with an imbecile like you."
"Ahhh—" Yamaguchi interrupted their arguments.
"Mahiru got back with the day you have to pay and collect the drugs. It's a month from now, right before prefectuals actually. So figure out a plan peacefully before then or the two of you will be in big trouble."
Work peacefully with her?
Work peacefully with him?
Having no other choice she decides on her plan of action. Tsukishima takes out some licorice candy and chews on it while she works.
"Put that away will you it's annoying." She muttered angrily. "Would your highness like it if I threw it in the trash?" Surprised at how easily he listened to her, she nods.
The moment she looks back at her laptop she felt the candy hit her face, "oops guess the trash didn't want it." He smirked.
At this point she was practically seething. Of course he wouldn't be so nice as to actually comply with her requests.
"If you do that again I will throw you out that fucking window you— what are you doing?" She asks as she noticed him get off the chair and look out the window.
"Checking how high the drop is, see if it's worth it." He answered cheekily. She was officially enraged. Sitting back down she decided to ignore him until it was needed.
"Poison" she suddenly spoke after hours of silence.
"Car malfunction." Came his swift reply.
After arguing for a few more hours and getting consultations from both Yachi and Yamaguchi they settled on car malfunction much to (Y/N)'s disappointment.
Tsukishima smirked at her victoriously, glad that his idea made more sense for this job.
Tumblr media
A month later.
"Don't mess up the plan you trainwreck or we're screwed." He whispers. "Oh shut it you overgrown baby. The only one capable of messing up is YOU." She retorts.
They work in silence, placing the job above their petty fights. After they finish making the changes to Mahiru's car the two of them slip out and go to the destination where they're supposed to meet him.
It wasn't long before they saw his car roll up. "Let's get down to business shall we?" (Y/N) asked in all seriousness when Mahiru entered the room.
"Right." Mahiru pulls out his briefcase and opens it, turning it in their direction. "I assume this is enough?"
Obviously, Tsukishima had to sell his act since he knew he had not been enthusiastic during their last conversation. He looks through the contents in the bag before nodding.
"I'm glad that Karasuno's shield is doing business with me. This will take us places." Mahiru then turned to (Y/N), "and Karasuno's Angel."
Who calls her that?
Who calls me that?
"Well, it was a pleasure doing business with you. Honestly didn't think you'd pull through with this deal but I'm glad you did." She replied putting on a charming smile.
"I'm hurt that you would think that sweetheart." Before she had a chance to reply he continued, "and about the payment?"
"Right. Here you go. That's everything we agreed on." Tsukishima says while handing him a briefcase.
"That concludes our deal then. I hope we can work together again." Mahiru smiles at them and then turns to leave.
Mahiru surprisingly had come alone, seeming to trust them. Dismissing the whirring sound that came from his car when he entered, he proceeded to start the ignition when.....
..... His car blew up. Tsukishima and (Y/N) walked up to car after the blast to see him lying on the floor covered in glass. Somehow still alive, but not for long.
"Please— save me! I'll do—do anything— for you." He cried in pain while holding his hand out to the two of you.
"Then Perish." Tsukishima told him and turned away. (Y/N) offered him a little flying kiss and a goodbye and followed behind Tsukishima, leaving before the bystanders and cops arrive.
Sending their condolences, they walked away, triumphant smiles at a job well done. After a week, when nothing suspicious was recovered from his accident, they were assured that their assassination would never come to light.
It was and always would be considered a tragic accident.

Note
your paravolleyball au is better than even the show in my opinion! having kageyama's internal struggles be about being disabled would be suuuuuch a compelling plot
I really appreciate the sentiment — but I truly LOVE haikyuu for what it is and how furudate’s writing has affected me and so many other people.
The paravolley au wouldn’t exist without furudate’s hard work and the entire story of haikyu! I am so forever grateful and in love with the story, it is something I cherish so closely to my heart.
It’s simply a parallel of the original plot! Just with a twist — a disabled perspective! With what my experience and many other disabled people’s experience.
Don’t get me wrong, I am so so so thankful people like my au, truly. It means so much to me and drives me to keep going and keep making it.
Furudate himself has acknowledged sitting volleyball, disabled players in the Paralympics.

Masterpost
Guess it’s about time I made one of these :P
Howdy! I’m Crowsandturtlesandbatsohmy, but I go by Crow. I’m a Christian, a writer (both of fanfiction and original work), and I doodle sometimes! My Fandoms: • Batman • TMNT • Star Wars • Toilet Bound Hanako-kun • Kimi Ni Todoke • Haikyu!! • And more that fade in and out!
My Tags: • Crow’s Cawing - I answer asks and/or ramble, either in the tags or in the post. Basically if you want my nonsense this is the tag you’re looking for ;) • moot-moots - A tag for anything involving my moots :) (based on the “noot-noot” sound.) • Mint Hamato - A Rottmnt au where I gave the boys a mom, whose name is Mint. The au doesn’t have a name yet, but once it does I’ll update the tag. • Destinies’ Keeper - My own personal TMNT iteration. I haven’t posted very much for this yet because it’s still in development with a lot of work to do, but Donnie’s the oldest here. • Fedeccine - My turtle oc! (Because Fey leads to fairy things XD) • crow’s doodling - I doodle sometimes, and the ones I post will go here.

My desire to write a fanfiction about haikyu where I can write all the joys and pains that this sport has given me. Considering that I ended my own career due to a bad accident I would like to write an au where one of the characters couldn't reach the pinnacle despite their abilities.
I know I have many fanfictions, oneshots and even an original story to continue, but I have this scream inside me that I need to express and I don't want it to die in my throat.
Tonight I'll start writing it, hoping it won't take too long and won't hurt too much

Things I will write for. I'm just starting here so if someone could give me a request, I don't have any ideas at the moment.
I also do non-fandom writes. Just ask I may have one you like, please tell me which kind. (Ex: romance, drama, fantasy, etc.) Yes, I do love triangles for either, if it's not Fandom, I do need characters like OCs or any Fandom characters(they will be slightly different to fix the themes/times)

Commissions?!
So I know that this is way out of the blue, but this is something that I've been wanting to try for a long time. I figured it might be time to take some big steps for the future, and this is what came to mind. This would also help me out financially since I recently moved into a new place.
Anyway, I’ll try to be as thorough as I can without boring you. And of course, if you have any questions please message me.
To start with, I’ll still be writing my own personal stories but it may be in between commissions or after a determined commission period depending on how many commissions I get.
Then there’s the kind of services I provide. How I’ve broken it down is I write fanfics and original stories, this includes: blurbs, drabbles, and one-shots. That applies to original stories as well, however if you are wanting a series that will have to be something that you and I discuss to see if it’s plausible for me.
Also, I not only write stories but I can offer some editing services as well. Take a look at the services down below, it’s explained more in depth there.
Next, how I will take commissions and how they’ll be paid for. When it comes to asking for a story, It's pretty simple; private message me and we can talk about what it is you are looking for. On the pay side, I’ll be doing this through paypal. Now I’ll be honest, I had a bit of a hard time using paypal but I think it’s all set up. I’ll provide a link to it to my paypal and it’ll take you to a page where you can enter the amount of a commission, write what kind of commission you want, and it’ll send it along (again I’m not use to paypal, so let me know if there are any problems).
Tumblr media
💮Commission Rates for Writing:
100 - 900+ words: $5
1000 - 1500 words: $10
1501 - 2000 words: $15
2001 - 2500 words: $20
2501 - 3000 words: $25
3001 - 3500 words: $30
And etc.
Here's my paypal
💮Services:
WRITING
Fanfiction
What fandoms I write for:  My Hero Academia Demon Slayer Naruto Haikyu! Spy x Family Jujutsu Kaisen Attack on Titan The Yakuza Guide to Babysitting Noragami 91 Days One Punch Man Detroit Become Human Red Dead Redemption II Marvel (mostly Bucky Barnes) PS4 Spider-Man COD: Modern Warfare II (I'm jumping on board with this now) Hogwarts Legacy Trigun
Original Ideas
EDITING
Test read - $5
Basically what it sounds like, I’ll read your writing and give some feedback on how I felt when reading it, what I liked, what didn’t make sense, and stuff of that nature as well as some spelling and possible grammatical errors.
Light editing - $10
This is where I’d give some basic ideas of what could be improved or anything that feels out of pace with the rest of the piece, etc. +grammatical / spelling
In depth editing - $15
This is where I’d convert your story into a pdf (if I can), and write my notes on the margins then send it back to you  after a thorough re-read.
Artist critiques
I have taken art classes at a private college, and I think I could use what I learned here. I’m still a practicing artist, so I’ll offer the best that I can with my current abilities. So for critiques, I will give feedback on your art ranging from composition to color theory. You can submit illustrations, comic books or pages, videos (tutorials, how to’s, etc.), and anything that you feel like could use critiquing. And if you’re not sure, just ask!
Illustration - $5
More than one page (ex. 2/3)  - $10
Comic book or pages - $15
Videos (depending on the time) - $20+
Other medium - message me
MOODBOARDS

Tumblr media
*note: For nsfw stories; if you are paying for it, I will assume you are of age! You are responsible for your own decisions!
If you are not sure or are confused by the information above, do not hesitate to ask. I will try to explain it more thoroughly. Overall, I want this to be a pleasant experience for you if you are interested in any of the services I’ve provided.
So I don’t forget, if you don’t want to commission me consider reblogging this post. It would be much appreciated!
Lastly, please understand that you do not have to commission me. I’m taking commissions to learn to make a living as an artist / writer. Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to make a living off of the things I loved to do and this is a step towards that. Any amount you are willing to give helps! And I figured if I could help some people out with the skills I’ve accumulated over the years then it’ll be worth it.
I want to thank you for taking the time to read through this all, and any of you who have supported me. I am truly grateful!
Stay safe and take care of yourselves, I’ll see ya around!

Rules
I’m always happy to receive topics or prompts for drabbles, short fics, headcanons, and all the forms of writing in between (no guarantees that they’ll be very good, though, I’m very new to this all)
For writing request rules, please note the following:
SFW content requests only (not comfortable writing into a NSFW direction, which may result in asks that steer towards that field being reformatted a bit)
Angst, cuddles and fluff, general themes, mild horror (if I can manage the style), comfort, AU scenarios, canon-compliant, time-skip - whatever the mood or genre you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll try to tailor my writing as best as I can to fit it!
No real people - especially if there’s a shipping request, please note that I will only be writing about fictional characters (and maybe OC’s if I get to know their character well enough)
Happy to write scenic passages without dialogue for real or fictional locations to craft images and location associations (if that makes sense, like “spending a day at the beach” or “countryside journey by train”)
Content-wise, please use your general discretion - if NSFW is out of the question, so are things that include non-con, dub-con, incest, abuse, drug or alcohol abuse, and similar triggers or subjects. If it’s a mention or allusion to such a topic, feel free to ask about whether I’d include it in passing, but I won’t be writing a main focus for any topic like this
(Edit: Newer development! also hoping to do little sketches for characters at some point - not able to guarantee any quality, but always looking for inspiration!! Please note that these would also be SFW - while I may occasionally draw partially NSFW, I’m not quite comfortable taking those as requests from people. The above writing rules also apply across to art - happy to do fan-art or original works, same content limitations and genre areas!)
Tumblr media
As for Interaction rules, here we go:
While I won’t be writing NSFW or specific 18+ content, know that with some requests or topics, I will still be looking to confirm ages - so please either have your age somewhere easy to locate on your blog or mentioned in an anon ask!
Especially note that while I am not currently posting any explicitly NSFW content that I create, this blog does interact with NSFW blogs and posts. Therefore, as per my rules, please list your age in your bio or pinned post.
Minor or ageless blogs - do not follow. You will be blocked, particularly if you are a minor blog interacting with NSFW posts/reblogs.
Don’t repost, edit or translate my content - on tumblr or any other sites
If, at any point, you’d look to share my content outside of tumblr, please ask beforehand (I may still say no)
Trigger warnings (tw) and content warnings (cw) will be included in tags and at the beginning of posts - if there’s something you notice that hasn’t been tagged, please send me a little message and I’ll look to correct it as soon as I can!
Ultimately, while I’m very open to the concepts of prompts and asks, there may be topics that I personally do not want to write or feel comfortable writing about - please respect this and that I may not give reasoning beyond a general “no, I’m not comfortable with that”. (I don’t have a full list of such topics yet, but keep an eye on here for any updates)
Any content I write on here that relates to another creator’s work - either official published works or other fan works - will receive either direct credit for inspiration/collaboration with the other artist or writer, or simply show that my writing or art is fan-art or fan-fiction - not monetised or claiming credit for the characters, story or ideas of the original creators.
However, for original writing and art, the intellectual property and copyright for the content rests with me.
Tumblr media
Fandoms: while I’m happy to read more into other fandoms for a request, and I am part of a couple others, the ones I’m most familiar with are:
Haikyu
Harry Potter
MCU (complete up to but not including Phase 4, including TV series)
Sk8
Stranger Things
BNHA
Yuri! On Ice
JJK (anime only at the moment, sorry, will get around to reading once I’ve got some time!)
Demon Slayer (anime only, same situation as JJK!)
BBC Sherlock
BBC Merlin
Percy Jackson
Heroes of Olympus
The Hobbit
Lord of the Rings
Shadowhunters and the Clockwork Trilogy
Select Disney content
Please feel free to send me an ask, message, comments through reblogs - I’ll try to get back to every single one, and know that I appreciate all of them!
Thank you for understanding, and I hope you’re all having a lovely day xx

Summer Memories
First Tumblr post wooo! Decided to post an old fic I had never posted, hope you guys enjoy.
Warnings: Kinda angsty, bittersweet ending, fluff
wc.6k +
Childhood! Kitsune! Miya twins AU x afab reader (she/her pronouns used)
---
Waves lapping against the shore, cicadas chirping as they nest on dappled trees, the smell of the lilting breeze and bitter goodbyes; golden sunsets tinting our summer memories.
It was summer again. This was made clear to the melancholic nine-year-old as you watched the trees blur past the back seat SUV windows. You never liked summer. To most children, summer was an exciting escape from scholarly activities; a time to visit beaches, wear flowing floral dresses with straw sun-hats or eat chilled melon by the lakeside- but to you, summer was hot and unforgiving. The sunshine that should have brought you joy only stung your eyes. To you, summer tasted no better than bitter orange rinds.
Ma didn’t like summer either. You had to spend the entirety of it away from her.
“You ought to be a big girl now” she would say. “Spend time with your Pa, it's only for a few months”.
A few months felt like forever- forever with a stranger. Pa was never home when you were young, even less when your Ma spoke through tears telling you he was never coming back.
Di-vor-ce. Divorce? You had a hard time wrapping your head around the pronunciation, but you reckoned that ‘divorce’ was what your Ma had meant. You had heard a few concerned teachers talking about it in the hallways, only ushering you off frantically when they saw your head peeking from the corner. You scoffed. Adults were always hiding secrets. You guessed that they didn’t think you would understand because you were ‘too young’.
The juxtaposing jubilant melody of summer hits hummed quietly in the background, the occasional rhythmic clicking of the turning signal or the jolt from bumps in the road served as a distraction from your stewing feelings of pensive sadness. You didn’t like summer, and you didn’t really like your Pa.
I wish I was home.
----
The crunching of gravel and the slow swaying of an ending turn woke you from your stupor. Your father briefly opened his door to stretch before giving you an awkward smile.
“Hey squirt, we’re finally here. Let me get your things and put them into your room”.
When you gave no answer and only stared at the collar of his shirt with empty eyes and pressed lips, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
Laughing to fill the silence, he smiled again- no less awkwardly before, but a little more dejected, you noticed.
“Say what- how about I fix you a bento and you can go explore in the woods?” he gestured to the bountiful nature attached to his property. “There’s a frog pond close by and there’s some pretty nice weather today- leave the boring adult stuff to me”.
Still silent, you nodded, to which upon noticing, the tension in your father’s shoulders lifted slightly.
“Sounds good squirt”.
You watched as he disappeared from the car and into his cottage home, leaving the trunk and car doors open. A good way to let in flies, but you weren’t going to tell him that.
Trees shifted slightly in the warm breeze, the dappling of the evening sunlight casting shadows of foliage onto the warm wooden deck you had retreated to while waiting for your promised bento.
Your father was wealthy, you supposed. You constantly heard the prim ladies of your mother’s office gossip about his famed writing career- something to do with traditional Japanese literature and poems- (though you noticed that the ladies gossip was snide regarding your Ma, which is why you never brought it up). You knew nothing about poetry or writing but you could definitely see the connection between your estranged father and his esteemed job. It simply made sense that he was eccentric, yet reserved and awkward. Most artists seemed to be that way, like Ms. Maraday; a European woman dressed in vibrant purples and eclectic, clashing, patterns that lived next door to your flat in Tokyo. She often wore long feathered caps and copious scarves, chemises, and silks. Your Ma told you she was an ‘interior designer’ (‘someone who made houses look pretty’-she later said when you told her you didn’t understand).
If you remember correctly, you were now in Hyogo. It was a simple village with an emphasis on nature. The traditional Japanese home that laid amongst the towering trees made it look peaceful. You supposed that is why your father moved here, away from the bustle of the glowing city where he could concentrate on his work and be inspired by the elements that simply weren’t of abundance in a place like Tokyo. It made sense why he left-you knew this. People with passions like him needed suitable places for creation, yet this reasoning didn’t seem to cure the bitter ache that left a taste too pungent in your mouth.
The sliding paper door caught your attention when your Pa returned, a cloth-wrapped bento in hand.
“Go explore, squirt, just be careful and come back before it gets too dark”.
He gave you an unappreciated head ruffle and limped back to the car to unpack (he’d always had a funky waddle- your Ma always called it his ‘penguin walk’).
‘Time to explore’ you thought before stashing your bento into your yellow backpack and trekking down the forest pathway leading away from the house.
---
The warm breeze flew past you gently, stringing along stray leaves and bending the branches above you in a graceful arc. It was more shadowy now; the shade from the canopy casting flowing shadows akin to when sunlight hits the sea. These woods seemed quite magical. Quiet; yet unexplored and imbued with mystery. You enjoyed the silence away from the reality of summer, and the fresh air that filled your lungs brought you temporary relief.
You were no longer following any sort of pathway, having strayed from the main areas in a moment of distraction whilst looking at the rays of vibrant light peak through the leaves. This didn’t bother you much- you were keen on exploring and any bought time away from the house was time well spent as far as you were concerned. Birds chirped and creatures scurried along the tall blades of grass. Perhaps you would find a fairy- that would certainly make your adventure more exciting. You continued on, unwavering heat beating on your brow and causing gleams of sweat to form.
How long have you been out? It didn’t matter you supposed. It was just fun to wander in an unfamiliar place- plus you had been hoping to come across the frog pond your Pa had mentioned so you could hold them. There weren’t many frogs in Tokyo for you to hold.
Though, despite your efforts to trudge on, you couldn’t ignore the rumbling in your stomach. The bento was looking more appealing by the second, and eventually, your hunger outweighed your determination to continue, as you settled by a sunning rock and dug around your belongings for the wrapped bento.
Untying the pink patterned sheet, you unveiled your lunch, the rice from your tuna onigiri sparkling in the sunlight like a polished stone. You couldn’t wait to eat.
Before you could even take a bite, a harsh rustling from a nearby bush caught your attention. You narrowed your gaze on the shaking bush, fear making hairs rise along your neck. Surely it was just a woodland creature- a rabbit perhaps? You wanted to find a fairy, not a monster, but when you creeped closer in fearful curiosity, the two identical pairs of glowing brown eyes within the shadows of the bush-branches made you leap away with a yelp.
You squeezed your eyes shut and brought your chubby little arms to brace yourself from the bush-monster.
Two small shadows with pointed ears loomed over you and the bantering whispers of hushed voices made you peek cautiously.
“I told ya I smelled food!”
“You said ya smelled something, not food.”
“Did not-”
“Did too!”
“Yer a liar-”
“Ya? Yer justa’ scrub.”
Two brunette boys around your age stood over you, bickering as their colored kimono- blue and red respectively- swished with each dramatic flair of their arms. The two were perfectly similar, like looking at your reflection in the mirror, and even more odd than the traditional clothing they were wearing, was the pointed fox ears and matching orange tails they donned. Were they real? They looked eerily realistic and the fact that the red kimono-wearing boy’s tail was flicking violently, affirmed that they were.
Perhaps they were the mischievous kitsune fox-spirits from folklore. You gulped. They were talking about food- you just hoped they weren’t meaning you.
“P-please d-d-don’t eat me” you stuttered quietly.
Your meek voice managed to catch the attention of the twins as they gazed upon your crumpled form.
“Ha- we don’t eat humans, ya scrub.” The red kimono-wearing boy said, gazing down at you with a look that said ‘you’re an idiot’.
“We want soma’ that onigiri ya got there.” Chimed the second boy, his face stoic; a contrast from his more fiery counterpart.
You hesitantly put down your arms and stood back up from the ground, getting a better look at the twins who gazed at you with intensity.
“What are ya waiting for, human?” the red kimono boy hollered “Stop ya starin’ and share yer bento with us”.
You listened, grabbing your bento and holding it out for them to take.
The two wasted no time (you noticed the blue-kimono boy was the first to snatch a bite) gobbling up the tuna onigiri. You were safe for now, you hoped, and so you sat along with them near your rock and began to eat as well.
“Uwahhhh~ these re’ delicious!” the boisterous red-boy spoke rudely through a mouthful of tuna and rice. You could practically see stars in his eyes as he chewed in delight- it reminded you of Ms. Maraday whenever she saw ‘handsome younguns’ pass by your neighborhood (you didn’t quite understand, but your Ma said you would when you were older-you weren’t too sure).
You were very curious about these strange boys and who they really were. You desperately wanted to know, but you remained quiet, afraid to bring more attention to yourself.
“We’re kitsune” the quieter one spoke, rice grains littered around his mouth. When you gave him a look of confusion he replied with a mouthful of onigiri “Ya looked like ya wanted to ask”. Nodding in understanding you smiled at the two, which caused them to stop chewing.
“What’cha smilin’ for, human?”
“Just happy that you aren’t monsters- and that you’re not gonna eat me”.
The boys gave each other a mirrored look of shock and proceeded to burst out laughing.
“This again? Of course we aren't gonna eat ya, human,- yer probably not even tasty” the red boy cackled, showing his miniature pointed fangs.
“Yer such a scrub” he added.
“Super scrubby” his brother agreed.
Ignoring the insult, you started to feel more comfortable around them. You didn’t think that they were going to bring you any harm.
“What are your names?” you asked, chewing on some grapes.
“I’m Osamu,” the blue-wearing boy pointed to himself  “and Atsumu is my idiot brother over there”
Atsumu lit up in indignation as he swatted his tail to flick his brother- ending in a small tussle between the two that you awkwardly witnessed.
“I- my name is Y/N!” you exclaimed quickly, hoping to break up the fight. It thankfully worked, as the two separated (albeit glaring at each other) and nodded along, ears flicking in irritation.
“Sounds likea’ pretty scrubby name to me” scoffed Atsumu as he dusted off his Kimono. He looked at you deeply, his more golden-flecked eyes searing into your mind.
Though Atsumu seemed to be the more loud of the two, Osamu was just as intense. He had this aura of coldness and aloof eyes to match, despite his age.
“Let’s call ya froggy instead. Ya look like the dopey frogs by the pond.”
Atsumu agreed with his brother, snickering at the suggestion, while you simply nodded in indifference.
“You know where the frog pond is?” You asked.
The two boys quit their teasing and looked at you with identical squinted eyes of suspicion. You felt a little nervous.
“Can you show me where the pond is? My Pa said it was close by but I can’t find it” you continued, hoping they would lead you so you could see the frogs they had named you after.
“Hm… I dunno Froggy, that’s mine and Samu’s secret spot…” he trailed off with a pout on his lips and a mock-questioning expression, and you looked crushed.
Atsumu quickly realized your fading expression as he piped up quickly with feigned disingenuous interest “I guess ya can tag along Froggy. Yer a scrub, but yer kinda cool I guess”.
“-Cool enough ta’ give us onigiri” Osamu joined, hands folded inside his kimono sleeves.
Your eyes sparkled like river stones in the sun as you gripped your yellow backpack straps in excitement.
“Let’s go ‘Samu-’Tsumu!”
The two boys bashfully looked away with pinkish faces, but you were too stoked to notice.
The three of you traversed to the pond, you doddling behind the two twins as they playfully told you to hurry up.
----
Meeting up by the frog pond became a regular occurrence throughout the summer spent at your father’s cottage. No longer was it ‘Tsumu and Samu’s secret spot’- it was your secret spot as well. Times when your father had to work on manuscripts, became times for the three of you to explore the plentiful woods together and gather by the frog pond for a lunch of tuna onigiri (you made your Pa pack extra routinely, and though he was confused at first, agreed- you were a growing girl, he reckoned).
“I’m going to catch the biggest frog today!” Atsumu beamed with unwavering confidence. You giggled and cheered him on despite Atsumu frequently proclaiming this and never living up to it.
“Good luck catching a frog ‘Tsumu. Yer ugly face scares them all away”. Osamu sneered, grinning cattishly. He stood knee-deep in the muddy pond with his kimono robe hitched up into undershorts and his sleeves rolled to his shoulders.
“Ya have the same face as me ya scrub!” Atsumu barked back, similarly in position like Osamu, but on the opposite side of the small pond. You simply sat on the banks, dipping your toes in the luke-warm shallows as you didn’t want to dirty the yellow sundress your Ma had given you.
“Just ya watch ‘Samu! Yer gonna be cryin’ once ya see the fat toad I catch- Froggy! Watch me!” his fluffy orange tail flicked around as he wriggled like a cat in a hunting crouch. His eyes were focused on the water underneath him as his brother merely rolled his eyes with an irked huff.
“Y/N could catch a bigger frog than ya and she’s not even in the water, ‘Tsumu.”
The boy gave Osamu a deadpan glare and returned to his concentrated form.
A quick fox-like dash of a hand and an unceremonious splash (not appreciated ‘Tsumu) later, Atsumu cupped his prize delicately with both little hands, trodding out of the water towards you with Osamu following. He unveiled the grayish frog to you, basically the size of his entire palm.
“Ha! What did I tell ya ‘Samu? Look at my frog!”
Osamu paled when you cooed, fascinated at his brother’s catch, and rolled back his sleeves preparing to go back into the water- this was a competition now.
Atsumu had looked pretty pleased with himself, a cocky smirk and high-raised tail, only feeling his ego inflate larger when you complimented his frog-catching prowess. This was only temporary of course, as Osamu reappears by your side, cupping a perfectly same-size frog to Atsumu.
“Ah- my frog is still bigger than yers ‘Samu!” Atsumu stomped bitterly, the puppy fluff by his ears riled. “Froggy- ya measure ‘em up. Tell us which frog is bigger!”
You analyzed both frogs carefully. They were utterly identical- a lot like the twins facing you with beaming anticipation for your decision.
“They’re both the same” you concluded, bringing faces of disappointment as the two bickered about which frog should have won the competition.
“Here-” they stopped their fighting to look towards your smiling face as you stood to perch a daisy-link crown around the two ears between them. “You both can win the prize.”
They stood tensely with synchronized blushing faces- both frogs long gone by now from the lack of watchful eyes.
“Yeah…w-whatever. I guess we can both win..” Atsumu pouted as his hands fidgeted with your gift. Osamu similarly looked bashfully, whispering a ‘thank you’ and playing with his damp kimono sleeves.
Despite their many differences, you could definitely see their brotherly similarities as they stood with mirrored shyness. You could only giggle.
----
“I’m King of the rock today!”
Osamu huffed, a frown on his rounded face.
“Yer always King of the rock ‘Tsumu!”
Breeze ruffled the long fronds of grass, the sound akin to brushing the fur of a large pooch (you imagine that such a pooch would need to use a pool as a bathtub and a rake as a comb). You pleasantly tuned out the background noise as you relaxed in the golden evening, serenaded by the season’s cicadas. This had been going on for a while now, the sharp tang of clashing voices sometimes pulling you out of your sleepy daze.
Two twins perched on the highest ledge of the sunning rock, billowing tails irate and ears pinned flat against their brown locks, bickering about who would be crowned the prestigious title of ‘King of the rock’. This was often a game the three of you would play, Atsumu and Osamu rotating between the ‘King’ role and you faithfully claiming your position as the court advisor (neither of them knew what that meant, and you only knew about it because of your father’s habitual tendency to spout oddities at the dinner table). Though you certainly had no opinion on the matter, you knew for certain that the two trouble making brothers would rope you into it somehow.
“Froggy!” “FROGGY” (said simultaneously)
And here it was.
“Ya agree don’t ya? ‘Tsumu would make a better princess than a King”.
You held in a laugh at Atsumu’s blinking shock as the twins pounced on each other; frolicking fox kits in the summer sunlight. You could tell there was no real malice behind the two’s actions, they were brothers- hearts intertwined and spirits invigorated by each other’s energy. It almost made you envious. You grew up relatively lonely, only enjoying the presence of Tokyo and your imagination; the subway was your carriage, the chimes of streetlights your music, and the songbirds and alleycats, your friends- you wondered if a sibling would help fill that void.
“OW! ‘Tsumu!”
You snapped out of your reverie, lying up from the flattened grass you nested on. Osamu sat on the mossy rock, eyes watering, lip quivering, and little hands nestling the bottom of his foot. You got up immediately, looking back to see Atsumu guiltily shuffling beside his brother, wringing his hands. He looked unsure what to do, and you could see tears beginning to well in his eyes as well, as he saw what he caused to his brother.
Gently you took Osamu’s muddy foot into your hand and inspected the scrape from the fall. It was bleeding slightly, running a crimson pathway down his heel and pooling between the crevices between his toes. Running your sleeve along his heel to wipe the blood, you caught him wince- you tried more delicately this time, removing residual grime as well, seeing as the two fox-boys never wore footwear.
You turned back to Tsumu who by now was sitting on the opposite end of the rock, looking ashamed and wilted like an unwatered houseplant. “‘Tsumu-” you called for his attention.
He turned.
“Help me bandage your brother up?” You pawed around your yellow backpack looking for the small first-aid kit your mother insisted you carry around- finally the heavy tin box would be put to use.
You instructed Tsumu to hold up his brother’s foot while you held up two bandaids- a hello kitty one with polka dots, and a blue one with patterned hearts. Both brothers grimaced at the ugly choices, but you gave them a look that got them to settle down.
“Hello Kitty or hearts?”
Osamu sniffed and chose the blue one (of course), to which you complied and stuck it to his heel. You prodded Atsumu who had returned to sulking, and whispered at him to apologize.
It didn’t take long for his pride to break. He started to sob as he hugged his brother in a tight embrace and tugged at his kimono sleeves “Sorry ‘Samu! I didn’t mean ta hurt ya!”
Samu pouted his lips pretending to still be offended, but you could tell it was all forgiven as he flicked his tail atop of his brother’s head like a strange hat and patted his arms.
“Ya ya. Yer alright ‘Tsumu”.
It was genuinely heartwarming to see them interact and you began to enjoy your summer a little more while watching your friends. Atsumu’s sniffling ceased, as he looked up at the two of you bashfully.
“Hey ‘Samu?”
“Ya?”
“Ya can be King today”.
----
The smell of cedar is strong in the midnight forest as you trek with your fox-eared friends. Cicada’s chirp loudly, framing the sounds of wooden sandals and calloused feet on the grassy pathway.
“‘Saaamuuu, how long till we’re there?” You complained for the nth time that night.
Looking to the right, with a mopey face to ‘Samu, posture slouching from what seemed to be hours walking in your young body, you were interrupted by the wrong twin.
“Keep it down, ya, Froggy?! Yer gonna scare the buggies with all ya groanin’!”
Osamu flicked his plume of a tail and nipped his twin’s ear at his snappy response. Atsumu only shrugged it off, but clearly looked peeved, taking the heel of his palm and smoothing out the fur of his ears with a huff.
“We’re nearly there, Froggy. Don’cha worry ya little Froggy head, ya?”
You giggled as ‘Samu ruffled your hair like a wet umbrella. Only to giggle louder when ‘Tsumu joined in the attack- the two boys relentlessly tickling you and making you forget about your aching tiredness.
They two stopped only when spotting a scooping hill in the distance.
“C’mon, Froggy! The night waits fer no one!”
You attached yourself to the racing twins by holding on to their obi, venturing to the moonlit meadow just outside of the forest.
You sucked in a deep breath as you gazed upon the endless expanse of the glittering indigo sky. Arcs of night clouds circled the pearl moon, trees bending in a graceful embrace around the tickling sweet grass, the scent of chill and clarity enrapturing the senses. The flickering stars reflected in your irises; gleaming with some wondrous awe the two boys became utterly fascinated with, as their own sharp eyes studied your tranquil ease.
Placid lips, once silent, parted to speak- though it was clear your focus was still diverted to the summer heavens.
“This place is so…” you paused; gentle winds jostling your locks and chirping creatures filling the silence.
“Beautiful” you finished.
The sway of the long grasses caressed your body as you laid to stargaze in the meadow. The twins, still entranced by your contentment with their surprise location, sat on either side of you- mirroring cheshire grins of success lacing their canine smiles.
The more boisterous fox chirped as he flattened his arms behind his head like a pillow.
“Just ya wait. The best part hasn’t even started yet”.
You directed your starlit gaze to ‘Tsumu, wondering what else could be more magnificent than the ether above. Anticipation paid off, as in the corner of your eyes (next to a pair of smirking foxes), golden, floating, stars started to come from underneath the grass.
“They’re stars!” you burst out in excitement. You look at the faces of your two cherished friends, watching them giggle at your unlady-like outburst. They didn’t bother correcting you, as you looked like you were having too much fun hopping like a grasshopper in the meadow, a huge grin on your face as you attempted to catch the floating stars.
“‘Tsumu! ‘Samu!” you called. “Come catch the stars with me!” Atsumu was the first to wriggle his tail and pounce like a hunter towards you, tickling you as you absolutely beamed. Osamu watched on, laughing identically with his brother at your giddiness. When was the last time he and his brother had a friend like you?
It had always been him and Atsumu, facing the world together. Foxes are solitary creatures, and it’s rare that Inari, the fox goddess, would send such young kits to work in the human realm. You truly were a treasure. A glittering golden stone like the bright sun; something so ultimately precious to them, as if you were worth more than the tastiest fatty tuna onigiri or the high of winning against his brother- you were family. No longer was it two unlucky twin fox kits facing the shadows of the earthly plane- it was ‘Tsumu, ‘Samu and Froggy-forever.
“-forever” Samu turned to your voice, you and ‘Tsumu panting and tired after chasing each other, and lying in the ticklish grass.
“Let’s stay together forever” you repeated, turning to face Osamu with glittering fireflies reflected in your endless gaze.
“Forever” the twins agreed in unison.
---
“Ya know, Froggy” Astumu chirped, hands lazily folded behind his fox-eared head, “Those weren’t stars, they were buggies”.
You gaped, eyes wide. “EHHHHHHH!!??”
---
The last day of summer vacation came too fast, and it also just so happened to land on the rainiest day in years. The weather was torrent, trees lashing by aggressively amidst the sharp drops of rain and the howling wind. Roads were closing, trains were halted- all in fear of the upcoming storm.
“You can’t go out today sweetie, I’m sorry-” your father tried to placidate your rising temper. He gestured his hands towards you, in a friendly embrace, only for you to whip out of his grasp in anger.
“It’s not fair!” you cried, fat tears rolling down your soft face. “Why can’t I go out to see my friends?- I won’t-” you paused to catch your breath as you continued to choke on your emotions. “I won’t be able to see them for a long time!”
Battling his confusion at the mention of your unheard of ‘friends’, he ached in sympathy to see you in such a state, but your safety was his uttermost priority “Now, sweetie-”
“NO!” you stomped your foot in utter outrage. You couldn’t believe the audacity of your Pa, to try and stop you from seeing your friends-no-your family- before you left. You hardly spent the summer with our own father, as he was too busy, and now he wanted to take you away from your only reprieve of loneliness?
“You can’t tell me what to do when you’ve never been there- you- you’re barely my Pa anyways!”
Your father looked on in horror, not only at your stinging words,but your small form dashing away quickly past the paper doors and into the unrelenting storm.
“Y/N!” he shouted- you didn’t listen, quickly evading him even as he attempted to chase you on his bum leg.
The wind clawed at your tiny body- rain slicked your floral summer dress and chilled you to the bone. The bending trees, once so welcoming, were being tossed around like marbles in a dish, and the sun that watched over you all summer- gone without a trace in the pluming smoke-like clouds. You continued to run as fast as your legs could take you, every once and a while slipping on the wet stones and skinning your knees in the gritty mud. You couldn’t tell if it was the rain pouring down your face or your tears.
“‘Tsumu! ‘Samu!” you cried, eyes blurry, and snot dripping onto the bib of your yellow collar. Your socks were beyond ruined at this point, and the tears from the sharp branches and many tumbles you took, only worsened the burning sting of the raindrops and buffeting gale.
A gnarled, slippery root brought you to your bleeding knees, and you felt as if you couldn’t possibly continue any longer. You were there- at your secret hideout, but the absence of your foxy friends made your heart drop.
You were wet, bleeding, scared, and alone. Your small little paradise was crumbling, and the angels that once played such sweet melodies to lift your lonesome spirit had faded away into their now-melancolic tunes.
“Froggy!” You whipped your head with re-invigorated energy as you heard the voice of your twins. “Tsu--m mu-Sam…” you cried incoherently as they bent to hug your shivering form.
“I- I just want to go home”.
The twins looked at each other, and with a saddening, but newfound resolve, spoke.
“We can take you home, Froggy- if that’s your wish”
You nodded, feeling defeated, but also confused at how a gangle of small children would be able to pass through the bitter storm for the second time.
“Don’cha worry ya little froggy head- yer safe, with us- always-”
Chocolate eyes met yours in a teary gaze. You were caught in a spell; the familiar slitted eyes communicating their immense sadness, yet, determination as they continued explaining.
“We heard yer wish, ya know, the one about ya wantin’ to go home, and Inari sent us to fulfill this wish, as spirits of the forest”.
Osamu chimed in- “That’s what kitsune do- we grant wishes” he paused and took your frozen hands in his. You noticed he was still wearing the bandaid you put on his foot. “We can help ya, Froggy, but after, our mission will be done…and once ya step out of the forest- you’re gonna forget everything that’s happened…”
“No!” you interrupted, your gaze flicked between the two soggy-haired, solemn boys as you balked in disbelief. “N-no- I’d never forget you guys!” The tears that had slightly dried before came back tenfold as you squeezed ‘Samu’s clawed hands. “The frog pond, the buggies, sharing onigiri?? I’d never forget any of that!” you proclaimed. “We- we promised to stay together-forever! I won’t go home if I won’t remember you two- you are my home!”
“Froggy.” Atsumu silenced you, tucking the stuck hair off your forehead, to behind your ear. You had never heard the jovial boy so serious before. “Ya need to go back to your own world- to grow up in Tokyo-” “-to experience the other seasons-” Osamu added. “-to be with yer Ma and Pa and that crazy hag Ms. Maraday…” They could go on, but by the defeated look reflected in your eyes, they could tell you understood.
You shakily stood up.
“Let’s get ya home, ya, Froggy?”
With their hands joined with yours, they steadied you. Like a beautiful dance, they conjured ghostly blue flames with their spare hands and you watched as the foxfire shot up into the sky like bullets, and returned as glowing orbs leading a pathway through the forest.
Slowly, the three of you began to run through the rain, laughing as you splashed into cold puddles. This was it, the last you’d ever hear of their laughter, so you couldn’t help the tears that mixed into your giggles as they gazed upon you so fondly.
The trail of glowing sky-like fire reached an opening in the forest and you could see the engawa of your father’s summer home shadowed in the near distance.
You dug your heel into the mud and spun around right before the drop off out of the forest pathway. Your face glowed with the slick rain and the heavenly light emitting from the globes of fire that still surrounded the three of you.
The twins cried. You cried, but your signature smile overtook your face. They let go of your hands.
“I’ll never forget you two. We’re friends- forever”.
“Forever”, they agreed, smiling through their tears. You took one last look at their identical faces, tall pointed ears, and their plumes of fluffy white-tipped tails- committing it to memory. You’d remember them. That was a promise.
And with a leap, your muddied sock passed the border between the trees and the outside, and you looked back, seeing the two figures holding hands and grinning caddishly, fading away like transparent ghosts.
As you landed, you suddenly blanked. What were you doing here? You can’t remember, but all you know is that you’re wet, aching, and feel overwhelmingly empty- like something was missing.
“Y/N- thank god you’re okay-!” your Pa hugged you tightly, looking over you as you faded back into reality. Police officers, sirens, and a gaggle of old adults who bore the fireman’s uniform huddled around you and your father, making sure you were okay. You didn’t really understand what was going on, but you hugged your father tighter as your daze looked back at the empty, dark forest. You were ushered inside immediately to get warm, and though the forest seemed to have some sort of significance in your brain, you let it slip your mind as you were being coddled.
----------------
And though you could not remember quite everything that happened during your adventures in the forest by your Pa’s home, you were left with an uneasy feeling in your gut like something was missing. As the familiar crumble of gravel marked the beginning of the journey back to Tokyo, you couldn’t help but gaze upon the slowly receding forest. The tall trees swayed mystically in an enchanting embrace like they were reaching out for you; saddened by you leaving. You wanted to reach back too- only being separated by the pane of the SUV’s car window.
To you, summer was about catching frogs, playing king-of-the-rock, gazing upon fireflies, eating fatty tuna onigiri in the summer warmth, and oddly enough- about two orange foxes with identical brown eyes. To you, the feeling of summer was like home.
The trickling streams of the frog pond, fireflies fluttering in the dimming night sky, the smell of the deep amber woods and yesterday’s rain; vibrant dusk tinting our fading summer memories.

I felt gentle taps on my shoulder and Kiyoko’s voice calling for me. I lifted myself and opened my eyes to see her face by the light coming through the windows from the outside. She smiled that warm smile.
“We’re going to have a meeting. Daichi wants you to stay in the other room. Suga and Asahi will be there to keep you company.”
I pouted and whined because I didn’t want to leave the silk sheets. “Is it okay to walk around like this?”
“Yeah. I’m sure Suga would be happy to see you in the clothes he bought for you.”
We got out of the room. Asahi was waiting for us. When we got to the room, Kiyoko went out to the other door that connects to the conference room.
“Is my sweet tart ready to eat a lot of her favorites?” Suga barged in with a lot of snacks in his arms.
“Suga!” I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. He put everything on the coffee table. He went behind me and started fixing my hair.
I ate a few of the snacks before finally talking. “Is it...” I swallowed. “Is it okay to ask why you joined my family’s ring? I know you guys are close to Nii-san but like him, you all had other choices.”
Suga chuckled. “Daichi stepped up when he figured out that you ran away. Me? Well, you know how it goes,” Suga looked at me and smiled. “I love your brother.”
I smiled as his grin is contagious. “Asahi, how about you? I wasn’t expecting you to join ever.”
“A-ah... Oh, you know. I can’t help but help out a friend.”
“And Kiyoko?”
“She wanted to find you.”
“What do you guys do then?” I looked at both of them. Asahi chuckled nervously to himself.
“I train the recruits.” Suga answered.
“They placed me to collect the protection fee and take on the small tasks around the territory.” He answered bashfully.
“The people prefer him to collect money over anyone now.” Suga said through puckered lips.
“That’s good.” I thought out loud. “Is Kiyoko the secretary then?”
“Executive secretary. She basically keeps all of us in line.” Asahi stated.
I got deep into thought. “What can I do then?” I muttered.
“You don’t need to do anything.” Asahi assured me. “Besides I don’t think Daichi wouldn’t like the idea.”
He heard a loud bang in the other room. We rushed in to see what was going on.
“Nii-san!”
Everyone paused and looked at me. When I realized why heat went to my face. I was wearing a mini yukata. Warmth over my body returned when Asahi put his coat over me.
“Oh. Thank you.”
“What are you men looking at?!” Nii-san scolded.
My heart was relieved to see that he didn’t change much.
“Sorry. We heard a loud bang and we got worried.”
Nii-san sat back down on his chair. “Just get those two separated. We’ll talk to them another time. Hopefully, the other rookies would have found something. Tanaka, you watch over those delinquents.”
“Yes, sir.” I watched as an orange-haired man and a black-haired man get escorted out of the room by a man with a shaved head.
“Nii-san, what happened?”
“It’s nothing.”
“Nii-san, I ran away because I knew what our family was like. Nothing is ever nothing in this world.”
“Our businesses kept being targeted for theft and vandalism.” Kiyoko answered. “Without any connections, we can’t go back to usual business profits.”
Nii-san didn’t deny nor confirm Kiyoko’s words but since it was Kiyoko, what’s news she says is news.
“Oh. Before I forget, I may have injured one of your men.” I confessed then gloomed over.
“What? Who?” Nii-san asked.
“Four eyes I called him. The blond one with the glasses.” I gestured to my face.
“Is that why he was patched up when I asked for their report?” He looked at someone that looked somnolent. He has his hair parted near the middle.
“Yes. It wasn’t serious though.”
“Why would you cause someone injury?”
I crossed my arms and pouted. “I was emotional and kind of tipsy.”
Nii-san sighed.
“Don’t mind. At least no one is seriously hurt.” Suga added in. “And. Now that you’re here and most of us are here as well.” Suga put his hands on my shoulder and turned me to face the three I saw in my father’s wake. “Men, if you please.”
The somnolent one started first. “Good to meet you. Ennoshita Chikara, I’m the family doctor and advisor.”
The next one has a darker shaved hair. “Narita Kazuhito. Accountant.”
Lastly, the one short spiky light brown hair came forward. “Kinoshita Hisahi. Supplies specialist.”
I introduced myself and bowed with them.
“Alright.” Suga patted my shoulder. “We should get ready for dinner. See you at the dinner table.” Suga lead me out of the room. “Let’s go introduce you to the others.”
Suga pushed me towards what I remembered as the lounge. There we see the two men I met earlier. They have their eyes on their laptops and had papers and other devices on the table.
“Oh. Hi, Yamaguchi.” I waved my hand.
Yamaguchi looked at us then smiled and waved.
“Hi. I’m Tsukishima Kei, the one you called four eyes. In case you don’t remember, I’m the one you beat up when we came to get you. Nice to meet you.”
“Sugawara-san, I would prefer if you don’t mimic my voice.”
That really sounded like his voice. “Try not to be late for dinner alright, guys?”
“Yes.”
Suga closed the door. “What do they do?”
“They help the Ita trio with anything. Yamaguchi is a lawyer and Tsukishima is a defence specialist. We’re actually lucky to have them here.”
“They’re rookies?” When I left, the Black Crows were one of the powerhouses of the prefecture. What happened?
“Oh, here we are.” Sounds of struggles and fighting can be heard from the other side. Suga slid open the door. The shaved head guy was training the two that was dragged earlier. “I knew you’d be here.”
“Suga-san!”
“You’re not the type that likes babysitting duty. Don’t worry; I won’t tell Daichi. You must really like these two.”
The two of them lined up. “Kageyama Tobio. I came here to work as a marksman.”
Marksman? Why would you be a marksman? I felt Suga’s hand on my head. “I see. Better two than one, right?”
“Suga? You’re a Marksman?”
Suga smiled but his lip corners were being shaken by disappointment. “Yeah.”
“Hey. Hinata, introduce yourself.” The shaved guy urged.
“Hinata Shoyo! And I want to work for the Black Crows as a hitman!”
“Hinata... Shoyo?” I repeated. “I heard of you before. You’re the guy that protected a lot of people in one of the neighbourhoods.”
“Haha. I used to be a gang leader but I couldn’t keep them from living their lives so I had to disband the gang.”
“Then why did Nii-san kick you out?”
“They started fighting to see whether a hitman or marksman is better than the others.”
Kageyama pointed at Hinata. “I stole a hit from him.”
They admitted to doing a hit but it’s like my ears shut it out because of how they said it. They started bickering again so the shaved guy broke them off.
“Oh, right. I’m sure Kiyoko hasn’t told you about it but he is her husband. Tanaka Ryuunosuke. Tanaka this is Daichi’s sister.”
“Husband? Whoa! How did you two meet?!” I asked and bounced as I waited for the answer.
“I met her during the recruitment for the Black Crows.”
“What do you do then?”
“I train people like these two.” He bragged and laughed.
“Right. I’m sure dinner’s almost ready. Why don’t we go?”
“I’ll follow behind I’ll talk to these two first.” Tanaka slammed his hands on the shoulders of Kageyama and Hinata making them flinch.
We went to the dining hall. Suga let me sit at Nii-san’s left side. Asahi sat beside me.
“Oh. Asahi, thank you for the coat.”
“No-no, keep it on.” He said as he blushes slightly.
Everyone except Hinata and Kageyama is here but seems like someone is missing as well. The door swung open and someone walked in. He has wild black hair that goes up but he has a small part of blond hair falling over his forehead.
“Any news, Nishinoya?” Suga asked.
He groaned. “Most of the culprits aren’t from gangs judging from the scene.”
Civilians targeting a family? I looked over Nii-san. He had this frown that most of the people here are scared of. Suga also followed as well in having a frown painted on his face. Everyone else is quiet, thinking.
I sighed. “Are there any victims? Casualties? Signatures?” I asked.
They all looked at me. Nishinoya went to my side. “And what’s someone like you doing here?”
“Nishinoya Yuu.” Nii-san spoke up.
“Thankfully, there are no people hurt.” He changed his demeanour instantly. “Most of the attacks are done late in the night. The money is gone too.”
“I think I know what’s going on.” I looked at Nii-san. I can’t believe I’m saying this but nonetheless, I’m here now. Might as well be useful. “But-but I need to go to the police station... for confirmation.”
Suga looked at me. His frown turned into confused curiosity. Nii-san’s face softened and he looked at me.
“It’s just business, right?”
“I don’t want you going out alone. Ever.” He said sternly.
“Understandable. I want the ones you kicked out earlier to be the ones to tag along.”
Suga’s face lit up. “My sweet tart is bolder than my sugar.”
“Tanaka, you’re going with them.”
“Huh?! Why is it always me?!” Tanaka questioned.
Nishinoya laughed.
“You too, Nishinoya.”
Nishinoya stopped laughing and just walked towards the empty spot on the table.
“Wait, Nii-san, I need Yamaguchi and Ennoshita for this. Tanaka and Nishinoya can sit this one out.”
“No. They’re coming with you still.”
I withdrew. Once Nii-san has his mind set, it would be difficult to change his mind.
~~~
“Is everyone ready?” I asked Yamaguchi.
“Ye-yes.” Yamaguchi opened the door for me. Everyone was waiting by the car. Hinata waved at us as we approached.
“We’re not going to fit here.” I told them as if it wasn’t obvious but Ennoshita opened the door for me.
“Tanaka and Nishinoya will use their bikes.” He explained.
I sat in between Kageyama and Hinata. Ennoshita was behind the wheel while Yamaguchi was on the phone. It wasn’t long until we arrived. We were met with two officers.
“Mr Ukai, Mr Takeda, thank you for taking your time to help us.”
“We have no choice.” The blond crossed his arms over his chest. “We were given the job since it involves your family. Who are you?”
I introduced myself. “Thank you for working with my family.”
“Come on. You said you need to meet the vandals, right?” We followed them. “We caught one of them at least.” They led us to the interrogation room.
“I’ll talk to him.” I suggested. I walked into the room and closed the door behind me.
“I told you, cops. I’m not gonna talk.”
“Oh. Don’t worry. The cops are on the other side of that window.” I jerked my thumb towards the one-way mirror. I sat down on the empty chair in front of him.
“Are you going to kill me?”
“No. That’s not what I came here for.” I defended.
“Aren’t you from the Black Crows?”
“I guess I am. Daichi Sawamura is my older brother but I only came home after years of hiding from them. More like kidnapped though.” I chuckled.
The man was taken aback by my honesty. I continued. “Also, if I remember it correctly killing people like you is a waste of breath for the family, and a waste of your life too. Nii-san hates wasting something.”
The man kept quiet.
“What is it like for you out there? You don’t look like someone completely down in the rut. Or are you just starting to go down? Is there also a possibility that someone important to you is suffering?”
“My-my daughter...” He opened up. His shoulders lowered as well. “She’s as old as you.”
“What does she do?”
“She’s in the business management but the company she’s working for is going bankrupt because most of the clients are going to your family’s business.” He puffed.
With the economy this bad, it’s not a surprise. “What do you do?”
“I own a company. We specialize in construction and manufacturing...” He answered but it was too fast.
“Lucky--”
We heard struggles outside the room. I stood up upon instinct and grabbed onto the chair in case I need to swing. The door swung open, revealing a petite blonde. I jumped when I felt a strong grip on my wrist from the man.
“Please, don’t hurt her.”
I let go of the chair. “Sorry, that was out of habit.”
The woman knelt and bowed down. “Please forgive my father!”
“Hitoka!”
“A lot of us have been losing a lot of jobs lately and no one really knows what to do. Please. Let me have the selfish request of not charging my father.”
“I don’t think Nii-san plans on pressing charges. He’s more focused on how to pick things back up again.” I helped her stand up. “People say a bad deed does not go unpunished though.” I muttered. I looked at the distraught man then at the one-way mirror.
“Please, I don’t want my daughter to end up like the others.”
I felt a stab to my heart. I knew what he meant. If I hadn’t ran away, I would never know nor will I understand his words. I held myself for comfort. I sat down and slumped on the table in between us. “Why did you do it?”
“Because I’m not going through what my wife has gone through again!”
I lifted my head. “Your company is going bankrupt too, huh?”
He kept quiet.
“You took advantage of the late family head’s death thinking you could take one family down.” I couldn’t help but slam my hands on the table. “Were you underestimating my brother?! Or are you taking advantage of his temperament?!”
“Your family is nothing but grounded crows now! You should just all go and make our lives easier!”
I picked up the table and slammed it down. “You think that once the Black Crows are gone your lives will be better? Hey, mister.” I snarled. “You should know damn well how territory works.” I looked down at him. I regained my composure when he relaxed. “Yeah. It’s dirty but I can’t ignore the fact that it’s a job that someone has to do.” I put my hands in my pockets and sighed deeply. “Having you dead, jailed, or freed is a waste though.”
He looked at me in fear. I felt a tug on my clothes. I turned and saw the woman. She was shaking in fear. “Please, if you’re going to harm my father put me in his place.”
“What?”
“Hitoka, no!”
“I don’t want anyone’s dignity and blood on my hands.” I stated. “They’re useless to me.” I confessed.
They both looked at me with confusion.
“I kinda want a job actually. Earn whatever I could to get to whatever.” I put my hand on my head. “I actually brought the advisor and lawyer of the family for help.” I tapped my knuckle on the window. “Can I get another chair, please?”
Mr Takeda came with a chair in hand and helped the woman sit down. I sat back down. I waited for us to be alone again before I started talking. “That construction company of yours, what is it called?”
“Date Technical Incorporated.”
“Date? Like Date Manasume? That’s actually a good name. What happened? Debt?”
“Ye-yes...” He confessed.
“To what? Another family?”
“A gang called Ohgiminami.”
“The price?”
“My wife.”
“No-no, I-I mean the money.” I got flustered. He answered so calmly and it made him look cool.
“$100,000.″
“How much did you get from all this?”
“Half.”
I clicked my tongue. “How much time do you have?”
“Sunrise.”
I tilted my head and whined. “Why didn’t you start talking about this to the cops?!”
“Because if they get involved, they’ll come for my daughter too!”
“This is more than I thought. I was only thinking you hate people like my family.”
I stood up and walked to the door. “Please stay here. I’ll ask them to let your daughter stay if she wishes. We’ll be back tomorrow.” I left the room. Everyone came out from the other room. I pouted and crossed my arms. “I really thought it was just business.”
“What are your orders?” Ennoshita asked.
I looked at them. “Do you guys have any information for the gang he mentioned?” I asked the two cops.
“What are you going to do?” Officer Ukai put his hands on his waist.
“I’m getting the money back and more. One of us has to.”
“Why would I let you go?” He questioned.
“Because your oath to the badge will hold you back.”
The officer was taken aback by my words. “Fine.”
~~~
We parked just a corner away from the hideout.
“Officer Ukai said to watch out for their gang leader Towada Yoshiki.” Yamaguchi relayed. “He’s a strong fighter.”
“What are the objectives?” I asked.
“Immobilize the opponent. Extract Mrs Yachi. Retrieve the money.” Ennoshita enumerated. “Kageyama, Nishinoya scout the premises. Hinata and Tanaka will knock out anyone they could quietly. We will go in to extract Mrs Yachi.”
Hinata and Tanaka went first and took out the ones patrolling.
“They’re all in one place.” Kageyama reported.
I gritted my teeth as I try to think of what to do. “The ammo isn’t lethal, right?”
“So long as your aim is good. Kageyama, Yamaguchi.”
Kageyama and Yamaguchi got into a better position and fired at them. Tanaka, Nishinoya and Hinata followed suit knocking down everyone. I watched their leader stand up and raise his weapon.
“Hinata!” I shouted.
I couldn’t understand if time slowed down or sped up but Hinata was able to knock Towada down in one movement or in multiple movements in one flow. Ennoshita and I proceeded to look for Mrs Yachi and found her tied and gagged. She panicked at the sight of us but Ennoshita put her to sleep like magic.
We got the bags of money and put all of them in the car. Kageyama and Hinata rode with Tanaka and Nishinoya to make space for Mrs Yachi. We got back to the station after sunrise to reunite the family.
“You didn’t kill anyone, did you?” Officer Ukai asked.
“Nothing happened.” I shrugged.
Officer Ukai got back in the station to not deal with anything else. Mr Yachi approached me and bowed. “How can I repay you?”
“I was thinking of buying your company but I actually have ulterior motives.”
“Uh-eh?”
“We could discuss that agenda later. Do you have a business card?”
“Ah- yes.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a card of white and teal. It has the company contacts on it.
“I’ll contact you. If I don’t, you could come to the mansion after lunch. I’ll notify Mr Ennoshita so he could inform the security.”
I walked towards the car. Ennoshita opened the car door for me.
“Uhm-” I turned and it was Ms Yachi. She bowed and said her thanks and asked what she could do to repay me.
“I already told your father what to do. You could help him through it if you want to.”
“O-okay!” She stuttered with determination and walked away.
