Btw I do have a few questions, you never do specify if they still have alchemy or if this wastelands au has another power system but even if they do have alchemy I was wondering how Al got all fucked since I have a few ideas for that

(Alchemic) Al didn’t get his whole body taken and only most of it which definitely traumatized Ed for sure

(non-alchemic) Al got the same sickness as their mother which would actually spread through the blood slowly and once it got to Al he had enough time to chop off most of the infected parts and save his life and give him prosthetics and such

In this wasteland au they work as sheriffs if I’m not mistaken and I’m guessing mustang team and everyone else does as well and I see that this is a town where they are only present but they are part of a bigger organization where it is basically the military in canon but I’m opt for just kicking the whole military and having it be domestic life and no homunculus

But I don’t mind following canon but I have a few ideas on a different plot line that could work for the boys but tell me what you think :)

i havent mentioned alchemy yet bc tbh I'm. still up in the air about it? some of the ideas i tossed around was like. very particular alchemy use? like ed being able to transmute his gun into another kind of gun, but not sure about that since it feels weird for them to have guns yanno? i feel like it would be a very last-measure kind of thing... i don't think they'd actually shoot to harm ppl, but like--shoot at an overhanging beam to make it fall down and pin their opponent or something

but your non alchemic idea is pretty similar to what i was thinking!! like. ed al and trisha all got this weird infection that ate away at them (not sure if its like a legit disease/infection dealio or like. similar to a chemical burn), kinda visibly similar to how transmutation occurs on skin, or like regeneration on homunculus

i knew i wanted roy and his posse to be sheriffs/law enforcement, while ed and al were kind of bounty hunters in some way? so they would interact in the way that roy would be like pst. hey. fix this for me and get this guy. and then they would. but they would still have some kind of autonomy, separate from law enforcement, and could still get in hot shit with other town sheriffs lol

BUT YEA all in all i didn't really think about the military or the military coup too much? i tbh have very little knowledge on wild west politics n all that, so i don't even know if it could even GO as big as it does in fma, since i'd imagine it mostly be limited to small towns.

most i've thought about homunculus is like... lust being one of those saucy ladies in a saloon, but literally nothing else lol. maybe they could be. crime lords? bandit leaders? the kind of fellows who organize attacks on trains/townsfolks/carriages?

everything i've got isnt set in stone and totally up for interpretation!! i haven't even thought much about a storyline for the au other than little bits of ed and al being chaotic on bandits lmao I'm really interested what ideas you have!! 👀👀

Peering down at the small man pushed to his knees, a groan slipping out of his lips from the harsh impact of the dry ground. Slider shrugged when Ice threw him a look. The man or should he say boy—He looks young and doe-eyed—,looks up through his eyelashes and does a terrible job trying to hide his flinch when he sees Ice staring back at him .

Ice inspected him, Top to bottom, from the fresh purple bruise sporting by his eye socket , looking more darker and swollen, the dirty and torn clothes sheen with sweat from the boiling suffocating weather, to the metal collar chained to his pretty neck that rested heavily on his shoulder .

Ice took a guess that they hadn’t taken it off him by the blooming bruises that were appearing beautifully on his collarbone that his ripped shirt allowed to see.

Too important to be locked with other criminals but not enough to keep his dignity having the boy chained like an animal.

“I wouldn’t be asking, but Carole is due pretty soon and Nick will kill me before I can blink if I brought this outlaw to our home.”Slider squints to block out the sun.

“Weren’t the plans for them to move in here when she delivered?” Ice says dryly. Slider shuffles awkwardly as if stunned with the information. Ice refrains himself from laughing, Slider probably forgot.

Ice place is much bigger than the tiny cot that the three lived in , much more smaller now that a baby’s arrival was merely few weeks away. Iceman didn’t like to share his space or be around with people. He enjoys his solitude , the quietness and not having to deal with pesty neighbors .

Tom was no people person or people pleaser and he has let it known. But he found himself fond over the little chick ever since he felt the babe move underneath his palms when Carole had proudly showed her belly. It was the first kick and Ice secretly carry that information proudly.

“Still is, unless you changed your mind ?” Slider grins as he wipes away the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief. It was an old thing, discolored and worn,(it used to be a deep dark green before it was thinned with use), But the man refused to throw it away since it was a gift from Carole.

He had a pocket knife to match, gifted by Goose.

The people in the town loves to gossip and murmur their unimportant opinions of their relationship. It was unheard of. Two men and a woman together was scandalous and shameful like two men being together.

It only worsen when Carole had gotten with child. A man had dared to open his disgusting mouth to sneer his insignificant and distasteful words to Carole.

Slider and Goose wondered angrily were that man had gone , as if vanished in thin air, wanting to desperately to give him what he deserved.

Iceman just sat there quietly, hiding his wrapped knuckles and sharing a look with Carole who smiled in gratitude.

Till this day, that man was not seen again.

“Besides by that time you’d already have this boy trained and domesticated.” Slider kicks the man back sending him forward, The outlaw hands shoots out to prevent himself from falling quickly before he eats a mouthful of dirt.

He’s weak . Slider had merely use any strength . Tom briefly wonders if he has eaten or drank any water.

“Touch me again I will break your wrist.” The boy snarled but Slider just laughs at the pathetic threat. He bowed his head, in shame or to block the sun that felt it’s job to melt brains— Iceman didn’t know for sure. Ice took two big steps to take a closer look.

Maverick felt a shadow cast over him, And does the mistake of looking up , coming to face the mans groin. His eyes were ready to fall out with how wide his eyes were.

Iceman knew. A voice in the back of his head is saying -shouting- to say no and get back in his house and leave Slider and the outlaw on his knees( a place where he looked he belonged). But he does the mistake of looking into the wide green eyes peering up at him.

“Leave before I change my mind”, Iceman scoffs when Slider promises to do anything to repay him for this favor. If Ice had a list of favors that Slider owes him ; it would be endless.

He watches the tall man retreat leaving him with the kid. He felt sweat pool behind his neck from the unforgiving heat, Maverick; Ice distinctly remembers when he turned him in with Stinger.

Where the kid should’ve stayed. Not with Ice.

Later he will convince himself that he is doing this for Slider, his only friend, that behind his reckless attitude Ron was a man of a big heart and when it came to his family he would protect them with his life, For the unborn baby that need his mother to be calm and safe and Goose not dying of nerves by having an unwanted guess trespassing his home when it should be safe.

And not because the small man fluttered his stupid pretty eyes.

Tom is Iceman, Ice cold and no mistakes.

“Get up unless you plan to do something other than stare .”Ice click his tongue , and reached out to the man. One hand gripping his chin and tilting it up just enough so their eyes can make contact.

Those green eyes turned into slits , his mouth twisted in anger , Maverick wince when his voice cracked, ”I’d rather cut my tongue off.”

It brings out a chuckle out from Iceman.

“Don’t worry little one, bratty outlaws are far from my taste . Let’s see how good of a slave you are .” Ice drops his hand and takes a step back. He smirks when Maverick throws him a glare, the kid is threatening as a kitten.

Ice watches the boy struggle to stand on his two feet like a newborn deer. His patience running thin , tensing his jaw , at how slow Maverick was moving. Another thirty seconds go by and he’s ready to throw the man over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

Seeing enough, he hauls the Maverick up by the arms with a soft but firm grip. Green eyes flicker , the boy tried to hide it but Ice can see how scared he was.

“I’m not a housewife, but I will make your life a living hell if you don’t let me go“ He did a pathetic attempt of threatening Iceman. The last part came out weak , Maverick swayed on his feet but remain looking up at him with those green shiny eyes trying to look menacing even when he was the one resting all his weight on Ice and practically rested his chin on his chest looking so small.

Ice feels the dull ache begining to creep up in the back of his skull , annoying him and threatning to lose his last silver of sanity. He clenched his teeth so hard he felt like any more tighter they could break. Ice should’ve made Slider drag this man in the house or let him figure out what to do with him, if the man can handle two energetic lovers he can deal what to do with this bratty small man.

But something about Slider holding Maverick like he is right now doesn’t sit right, his gut turns at the thought and his blood boils. He pulls maverick away, ignoring the latter confuse noise , just enough to put his arm at the back of the man legs to carry him in a bridal hold.

“What are you doing?!,” Maverick squeals. He stays silent. And begins his way to to the door.

Lockdown 2023

Dear Readers,

I’m sorry to say but I’ve just had to put everything on AO3 locked to signed in users only. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience it causes.

Why am I doing this?

Well, someone decided to copy and paste pages and pages of my work and then take another person’s work and copy and paste pages of their story, change a few names here and there, add maybe a couple of sentences, steal more sentences from a third person and well….

They said to a friend who pointed out that this was wrong that it was their right to do so because it was transformative and fanfiction is inherently plagiarism anyway, so it was alright for them to use my work as well as the other two writers.

They didn’t ask me if they could borrow my words.

They didn’t credit me.

They are matching up my version/headcanon of a character with someone that’s pretty much a NOTP for me at the worst of times and a dull side character with a weird romance option at their best. I don’t go here but everyone else is more than welcome to, just leave me out of it.

One of the other writers they took from is also a dear friend. They feel terrible that they tried to be friendly and welcoming someone to a small, niche fandom where a lot of us writers all vaguely know the others either through friends or friends of friends. Their welcome was taken advantage of and that really is almost worse than having my words taken without my permission.

I get that fandom has become more permissive of things like AI and assistive writing tools. I understand that all of us are in the process of becoming better writers through our writing—but I don’t stand for taking someone else’s words, copying them into a new document and then calling them your own, not giving credit or not bothering to link to the source. To me that is plagiarism. It’s not writing your own fic. It’s not transforming it into something better.

So, I’m putting my writing in the AO3 equivalent of tamper proof packaging. My words have already been stolen and it wasn’t even by something like an AI bot. This doesn’t feel like winning to do this—it feels almost antithetical. I’ve always had a policy that if you want to leave a critique or something negative you need to have your username attached but now I’m saying you can’t read it unless you’re signed in… which yeah.

This isn’t me winning. This is me trying to protect what’s left. I suspect it’s also useless to do so, but it’s the only option I feel I have.

I apologize to those that can’t access my works anymore. Please sign up for a free AO3 account—it’s worth it for more than just my writing. You can subscribe to authors/works in progress and make bookmarks—great benefits in my opinion.

Maverick never needed lessons in pushing boundaries. Not if those boundaries are about going faster, further or screwing up on an ever increasing scale, because he'd run off the edge of the world before he'd let a thought that scared him shitless take root in his mind. It was enough that it was already in his heart. Or Maverick crashes the Darkstar and needs a very long time to learn that there's things that can and should be fixed. And that he's always had the tools to do it.

This is a long read, but a good one, well-written. It's an excellent overview not just of the headline--the murder of game warden Guy Bradley--but the surrounding circumstances including the demand for bird feathers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It surprises a lot of people in my birdwatching classes when I tell them that the possession of most native bird feathers is against federal law. "But it's just a feather I found on the ground!" I'm well aware of that, and the vast majority of people who pick up a molted feather would never do harm to a bird to get more of them. It's almost impossible to differentiate between a natural molt, and a feather torn from a poached bird, though, so the law bans them across the board.

After reading the article, this may make more sense to you. Think of the avarice of the plume hunters who went into the wetlands and forests and gunned down thousands of birds in a day, just for the feathers. They continued even after it became illegal, simply to fill the demand for feathers--or wings, or entire taxidermied birds--for hats. Couldn't you imagine such a person removing the feathers from the carcasses of birds they'd shot, and then claiming they were simply very good at finding molts?

The Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 protects almost all native wild birds in the United States; you can find the list of of protected species at https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/07/31/2023-15551/general-provisions-revised-list-of-migratory-birds. There's also a list of (mostly non-native) birds that are not covered under the MBTA at https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/04/16/2020-06782/list-of-bird-species-to-which-the-migratory-bird-treaty-act-does-not-apply.

Her Reader, Bear, is the commander of the Seal Team and she gives Jake sooo much shit! She also wrote a really sweet Fanboy oneshot about the Reader being completely overwhelmed with work and life and how amazingly sweet Mickey is about it. (It’s not quite a “sick” fic, but it is comforting)

@mayhemmanaged - She has two new series (both AUs) with Jake. One is being cowritten with @cassiemitchell about a group of vigilante women helping to protect abused women and all them are married to the men on the task force who are trying to catch them! May’s other story is about a dystopian society where Jake’s family are basically American royalty and he falls in love with a woman who isn’t “noble.”

@roosterforme - She has soooo many Bradley series. She also has some oneshots of Bradley, Jake, and Bob that are really good.

@tongue-like-a-razor - She is in the middle of two Jake series that I love. Less Talk and Brother’s Best Friend (Bradley’s little sister is the Reader in that one) they’re both slow burns which I love!

@startrekfangirl2233-writes - She’s in the middle of a kiss prompt challenge and has about a dozen one shots with the guys from both movies and different types of kisses. She also wrote a Bob oneshot that absolutely broke my heart!

@ohgodnotagainn - She’s in the middle of a coffee shop AU with Bob and the Daggers and it’s just so sweet and fluffy!

@beyondthesefourwalls - She’s writing a Bradley series about an ex-girlfriend that comes back into his life, but she’s got this creepy coworker that’s stalking her and making her life a living hell. It’s so good so far, and we’re only on Part 5!

@wkndwlff - She has some Bradley oneshots that are really good! The Sunday Scaries isn’t a “sick” fic, but Bradley is super comforting in that one.

@sylviebell - She just started a Bradley x Natasha series that seems like it’s going to be amazing! It’s a fake-dating, friends to lovers fic and those are some of my favorite fics!

Becca!!! Oh my goodness!!! You are amazing beyond words!! I will check out all of these masterlists. I think I have browsed a few of them but I will dive deep into them all. I did find a sweet Bob x sick reader fic. Reader woke up with strep on their birthday. I had to giggle, only b/c my birthday is next week (27th) and if I wake up sick(er), I will not be happy. But, I’m feeling better. Everything seems to have moved from my head into my chest. I’d rather deal with a cough and not sore teeth and sinuses. Lol

Post-fic Lawless headcanon: I have so many, but I think my top two favourites are that Arthur ends up working with horses as much as he ends up running the ranch with John/managing the cattle – he takes on a lot of problem horses to “fix” and doesn’t sell on quite as many as he should, so a regular little herd develops on the land. I also like to imagine that their descendants stay right there on that ranch for generations, and in “today” time they’re right there still, not far from Yosemite, and family legend says they’re descended from a pair of notorious outlaws who dodged the cops and started a new life for themselves there. The two outlaws being Arthur and John of course – because despite Arthur’s attempts to threaten him off, John’s son Jack falls madly in love with Arthur and Kathryn’s daughter Elizabeth and they take over the ranch together. Which leads into…

If I were to do a Lawless sequel: it would be Jack and Elizabeth’s story, including their frustrations with their younger siblings, their attempts to find out their parents’ real story, and their slow and heady descent from childhood friends into all-encompassing love.

Which part of Sleeper Hit was hardest to write: it was definitely the “parents” (Maverick and Penny) finding out about the relationship – I inserted it at about five different points in the story in a bunch of different ways and it just was not right no matter what I did. Then the idea of Bradley getting shot down occurred to me, and I knew I finally had a place to put that big reveal where it wouldn’t irrevocably damage any of those crucial relationships.

A line/scene I’m really proud of: it’s incredibly mundane, but I really love the scene in Sleeper Hit where Amelia bails out of her dad’s house and calls Maverick from Lancaster. It just felt like a really lovely encapsulation of their relationship as I was writing it, and honestly as much as I adore Bradley/Amelia, it was the Amelia-Maverick father/daughter relationship I ended up loving most in that fic. I was really pleased with how the dialogue flowed and the transition from the edginess, sadness and anger Amelia felt at her father’s to the ease, trust and laughter she feels with Maverick. And then of course it results in Amelia’s stay at Bradley’s house, and I very much like how that ends 🌝

Which part of writing I struggle with most: 100% sticking with things. It’s infuriating how little staying power I have and how easily I get distracted by shiny new ideas. It’s one of the main reasons I post massive long oneshots old-school style for so many fics – I have to treat them as one single entity in my head rather than letting myself divide them up into chapters, because something about chapterising a story somehow makes my brain think it’s absolutely fine to just stop doing it four or five chapters in. If I got a wish to change just one thing about myself it would be giving myself the willpower and concentration to goddamn finish stories

Wickett was the first one to turn me around on OC. Her beautiful story “Damn Those Dog Tags” came at a time where I had lost my grandpa. Her story about learning to live with your grief and embracing it rather than running away from it found me at a time where I refused to acknowledge mine. It has helped me immensely and every chapter is like a love letter. I cry, i giggle and i blush. It also helps that we got a sexy Jake Seresin who was doing his best to get Liz to be his and who acknowledged that he needed to change and grow for the better. Plus she gave us an adorable little bug that makes me question my decision to not have kids. I am so sad that their story is coming to an end soon, but I am BEYOND excited to see what else she comes up with.

Beth’s story of Jake and Felicity has captivated me ever since I finally started reading it. Flick is such an amazing strong as hell character and I want to be her so bad. So confident, hilarious, smart and just…10/10 I’m obsessed with her. Reading her relationship with Jake flourish has been an absolute delight. Another favorite part of her story is Jake’s background!! You don’t normally get to see male characters be victims of emotional and psychological abuse, and while it has been absolutely heartbreaking learning what Jake had to go through…it just means his love and trust towards felicity is real and strong. His character development makes me want to cry in the best way. I love these two so much and their story and I just want to give everyone a hug.

Ruthie’s story of the San Diego Daggers has me on a chokehold currently. The way that she has me rooting so fucking hard for Jake and Bugs is actually embarrassing. Bug’s story while it remains a mystery tug at my heartstrings because I just know that she is trying her best, and just wants to do what she loves, which is sports medicine. Also Bugs is so fucking funny (running over Mav, complimenting Jake on his tits) her banter between characters has me dying of laughter and also crying. Crying because once we learned how Jake was betrayed and played by his old team? Girl. As someone who trusted a sports coach many many many years ago, whose actions only put me in an incredible dark and depressive state…it hurts. Because these are the people you trust with your well being. Anyway, the team dynamic is just too incredible and while they are still a new team, you can tell they have each others backs. I cant wait to read more of her work as well as Jake and Bug’s relationship (if I ever stop blushing from their flirting)

Now on to my dear dear Liz. What can I say about Liz that I haven’t said before. It all started with Jake Seresin as an outlaw in the old wild west and a little character named Scout whose storyline hit close to home. I mean what’s not to love about it?! But then she introduced us to Bob, Bradley, Birdie and Bunny and let me tell you I’ve been a goner and a fan ever since. Her ability to build the worlds in her stories by using history and fantasy is unmatched. Her gals are so unique, strong and hella smart all in their own ways. Every chapter she posts leaves me running to her DMs and to a long ass Reblog where I just vomit all my feelings. Her other stories Fool’s Fare and Meet Me At The Sea currently also have me on a chokehold and i day dream about them constantly. I know I said this already…but Liz’s storytelling is so fantastic and she’s so incredible at incorporating magic and fantasy aspects that continue to make me cry and beg for more. Liz never sleeps and is always down to explore Drabbles, constantly asks us for our opinions and is always down to try new and different AUs. I just love her so much. Also if you haven’t yet, check out her OG work, it made me cry and it’s just so good about exploring what makes us human and why as humans we need to preserve and learn from history’s

There’s so many more authors that I love and adore as well as their work, but just wanted to give a shout out to them. I’m forever grateful that I found people just as obsessed about these actors and characters. It makes me feel so validated. Anyway love you all!!

Favorite hangster head canon?

- Jake fell so hard like crazy hard for Bradley and was completely broken for about 3 years after they broke up (ask Coyote he witnessed all the best and worst bits).

- They would always do matching Halloween costumes for those years that they were together (Outlaw n Sheriff, Buzz n Woody, Jack and Ennis from Brokeback Mountain).

- Jake has 4 sisters who are fiercely protective of him and loved Bradley so much and then proceeded to resent him all of those years after.

- Bradley went with Jake to his oldest sisters wedding (Jake walked her down the aisle.)

- Jake being a massive himbo and Bradley being extremely protective over him when anyone tries to make fun of him.

- Bradley wears socks to bed every single night and it drives Jake insane.

- Bradley, Jake, Coyote and Phoenix being besties during their first stint at Topgun and doing absolutely everything together.

- Jake being a total lightweight when it comes to drinking and Bradley needing to drag him home almost every night they went out drinking.

- Jake being the it boy of Topgun and having almost everyone flirt with him on a daily basis. Him both loving the attention and relishing in the fact Bradley is on his way over to make his mark on him.

- The most PDA couple when they are officially together. Jake settling himself in Bradley’s lap during nights at the hard deck, Bradley rubbing circles into Jakes wrist under the table at meetings, legs always intertwined under the table at dinner.
