Y’know I get where y’all are coming from with some of your “friends don’t look at each other like that” posts but also. I do look at my friends like that. I’m aro but even if I wasn’t I don’t think that would force me into loving my friends less. I’m out here looking at these guys with the most besotted look on my face. My friends can talk about things that I have zero interest in on my own and I will be so happy to have the privilege of listening to this incredible person talk about the things they care about. And I’m sure I’m looking at them “like I’m in love with them” while I’m doing it. Or my friends who are a couple will be talking about something that they did together and I’m just like “I get to watch two of my favorite people interact! And they love each other so much!” so yeah of course I’m gonna have a sappy look on my face. Idk where I’m going with this I’m just aro and love my friends so much and honestly if you don’t look at your friends like you’re in love with them? Skill issue.

I cannot express enough how much it hurts to see people complain about how “Heartstopper is unrealistic bc it lacks sex”.
Like, if that is/was your experience as a teenager, that’s fine! There are HUNDREDS of teen shows that display (usually overly so) sex and sexuality in that way. But, that is not everyone’s experience, nor is it the experience everyone wants, nor wanted.
As a queer person who was unable to live joyous teenage years for the most part, it is incredibly healing to see healthy and loving queer relationships on screen.
This show isn’t that realistic, and that’s TERRIFYING.
These teens are more mature than most people will ever be. This is because they are a community that values boundaries, communication, and consent. The relationships, romantic and platonic, in Heartstopper focus on the importance of community within queerness. How just being queer/queer allied can unify a group in a way that can’t be outwardly understood.
There shouldn’t be pressure or expectations when it comes to sex, affection, or any type of intimacy. I understand not everyone will relate to a story like this, but for those of us who do, people need to know that it is everything to be able to see. It is everything to see even a fictional reality where boundaries are respected, and people care enough to take the time to grow love.

just the possibility of having queer friendship displayed on screen between hen and/or karen and buck makes me emotional. yes, queer love is so important, but queer friendship is a bond like no other. and i can’t wait for buck to experience that level of joy in his life.
having friends who fully except you and understand you and share a bond that is so intimate and life-changing it is beyond words.
queer joy and love, whether platonic or romantic is beautiful

I wonder if Alice Oseman ever imagined that they would have such a wide age range of fans. That people in their teens and twenties would read and watch Heartstopper and find themselves, or use it to come out to others; that people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50, 60s would read and watch and strive to be a teacher like Mr Ajayi or a parent like Sarah Nelson; or weep over their own teen years, the teachers or parents or friends or lovers they didn't have, or the bullying they did have, and then find some healing.
(I ponder weeping over Heartstopper for the bazillionth time.)

Moment of appreciation for phoebe and julien’s friendship because (at least from my perspective) it gets sidelined a bit in favour of Lucy & Julien which I think is a shame because they have such a genuine and sweet relationship <3

[Image description: A tumblr post, edited blackout-poetry style. The redacting lines comprise an abstract geometric pattern in the colours of the transgender pride flag. Resulting text reads, "Trans women are friends with lots of trans men."]

💌 WANTED: new queer friends 💌
You would be ideal for this role if:
- you have an unnatural obsession with fictional gay characters (bonus point if you have new tv/film recs)
- you also find yourself on tumblr in the middle of a random Tuesday afternoon
- you agree that meeting new people in your 20s is surprisingly hard… like why?
- you enjoy the outdoors and/or sports
- you love the cosy season, chilling at home on a rainy afternoon watching feel good shows or reading a good book
If the above criteria doesn’t fit you, we’d still love to hear from you.
If you’d like to apply for this role either message the above user directly or react to this post and the user will be in touch shortly.
please and thank you. 💖
EDIT: okay folks, this got way more notes than I thought it would so apologies if I haven’t reached out! Send me a message though if you want to chat! ☺️

you are a queer person in an all-queer friendgroup. you ask for music reccomendations from your dear friends. your transmasc friends reccomend you icp and crazy frog. your agender lesbian friend reccomends you merm4id. your asexual friend reccomends you video game soundtracks. if your boyfriend was here, he would surely reccomend you mcr.
you quickly realize those motherfuckers were lying about how all queer people like the same music. you sigh, and go back to listening to will wood and the tapeworms on shuffle.

This is truly groundbreaking. Showing friendship between two guys that invites emotion and love is so so important. Here they are, casting out the toxicity of hypermasculinity, in a healthy and loving friendship. I am so glad they decided to include this.

Honest question for trans and non-binary queers in their mid to late-30s: how did you build your social support network as an adult?
I'm turning 38 this year and I haven't had robust friendships for a while but I find myself increasingly in need of, like, folks who I can hang out with outside of my relationships and talk to about things I'm feeling/experiencing as a friend.
As it stands now, my only social supports ARE my two partners, which makes it difficult for me to discuss some of my thoughts, feelings, insecurities, etc. with somebody not intimately tied to those things, you know? I don't like treating my partners as my "everything" (that's a lot of pressure and expectations) and would like to be able to talk and work through stuff through other supports and connections more.
Compassionate advice appreciated! Please note that I am a disabled queer who isn't working, does not own a vehicle, and struggles with both general anxiety and an overwhelming fear of transphobic and queerphobic violence. So, no dismissive "just go make friends, it's easy!" comments, please.

Queer friendships are always like:
"Have i mentioned this part of my extremely unsettling traumatising tragic backstory?"
"Three times, but no prob"
"Did i tell you i got a new pet?"
"How DARE YOu keep the existence of your pet mice HIDDEN FRom YoUR FRIEND!!For more than 3 seconds?!?!? Thou shalt not call thyself a friend of mine anymore!!!
