Pairings: Dragon!sylus x reader
Notes: sorry for dying I’m back now, I got sick, and I hate this respectfully I will write a better piece once I’m feeling better.
Warning: mentions of dead deers, Beast!Sylus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time you saw Sylus, you thought you were going to die.
Not because he attacked you. No—he stood still at the edge of the clearing, wings half-folded, steam rising from his nostrils. His skin shimmered like obsidian, black horns curving back over a crown of tangled white hair. He was… massive. Nearly seven or more feet of muscle, talons, and silent, menacing power.
He approached one day while you were outside, picking some carrots from your little farm outside of your cottage house.
And he dropped a dead deer at your feet.
Just—thump. Right there. Legs curled awkwardly, neck broken, but it was still warm.
You stood frozen, eyes flicking from the deer to the dragon-man and back again. He said nothing. Just stared, red eyes unblinking, tail twitching like he was waiting for something.
“…Do you… want me to cook it?” you asked weakly.
He blinked. Once. Then turned and vanished into the trees.
The second time, it was gold.
He didn’t make a sound at dawn. You just stepped out of your cottage one morning and there it was: a heap of raw gold nuggets and coins, like someone robbed an entire mountain.
You stood on the porch with your tea, staring at the glittering pile and blinking hard.
“…Is this a trap? Or maybe—maybe the forest spirits finally accepted my offerings of mushroom stew.”
You knelt down to inspect the coins. They were ancient. Some of them had runes you didn’t recognize. One had a dragon engraved on it. You poked it.
A low growl rumbled behind you.
You jumped, turning to find him again—towering, hulking, silent. Red eyes fixed on you.
“You again?” you whispered. “Okay, this is… this is getting a little weird.”
He stepped closer. You backed up.
“Did you lose this?” you asked, pointing at the gold. You knew how much dragons like treasures or shiny things, and getting barbecued by a dragon was not on your to do list this morning. “I can… help you carry it back?”
He stared. Then, slowly, he said, “Take it.”
You hesitated. “I mean, I guess I could keep a few—”
His wings twitched. “Take it.”
“…Okay.”
You picked up one coin.
He exhaled hard through his nose, clearly unimpressed. With a frustrated snort, he turned and walked off again, stomping like the very earth offended him.
The third time it happened, it was rocks—shiny ones. Polished quartz, opal, raw moonstone, the kind of stones that sparkled like water under moonlight. You found them lined across your windowsill one morning, arranged carefully as if someone had studied where the light hit best.
You sighed, fingers brushing over the smooth surfaces
“This again…”
The forest was silent behind you—but not for long.
A rustle. Then heavy, deliberate footsteps. Heat crawled up your spine before you even turned.
And there he was.
Sylus.
Towering, wings partially unfurled, horns gleaming in the dappled light. White hair tangled from wind and weather. Red eyes, burning like coals, locked on you.
He stood still. Staring.
You stared back, heart stuttering in your chest. “You again…”
He didn’t speak, not at first. He just nodded to the rocks with a barely perceptible tilt of his head.
“You brought these?” you asked, voice unsure.
He exhaled heavily, a deep sound from the pit of his chest. Then, in that low, growling voice, he said,
“Take them.”
You hesitated, brows furrowing. “They’re… beautiful, but why do you keep bringing me things? The deer, the gold, now these—”
“You not… understand?” he asked slowly.
You scratched the back of your head, awkward. “Understand what?”
He stared at you, expression unreadable, and then sighed—deeply. He looked down, broad shoulders slumping just a bit. Like a man who had tried very hard to follow the sacred rites of his kind and was now at the end of his rope.
Was he really this doomed?
“You are human,” he muttered. “But… pretty.”
Your cheeks flushed. “Um… thanks?”
He looked up again, eyes intense. “Good scent. Good eyes. I like your laugh.”
That only made it worse. Your heart kicked up in your chest.
“I brought prey. I brought gold. I brought treasure. I make nest warm. You live in it. You eat. You make funny noises when happy.” He stepped closer, voice rough, sincere. “I protect you. I fly over your roof at night. I scent-mark the trees so no male gets close.”
“You… what?”
He blinked once. “You are my mate.”
You froze.
“M-Mate?”
“Yes.”
Your lips parted, but no sound came out. A hundred things crashed into each other in your brain. The gifts. The constant watching. The deer. The way he always appeared when you left your cabin too far behind.
“Wait,” you said softly. “The deer was… a courtship gift?”
He nodded.
“And the gold?”
“A dowry.”
“…The rocks?”
“For your nest.”
“…Oh my god,” you whispered. “I’ve been accidentally accepting your… your dragon proposal this whole time.”
His tail flicked. “Yes.”
You groaned, covering your face. “Why didn’t you say something?”
“I am dragon,” he said, almost stubborn. “I bring gifts. You are meant to understand.”
You peeked at him between your fingers. “Well, we’re very different, because I just thought I was being haunted by a very generous forest spirit.”
His nostrils flared. “I am not a spirit. I am Sylus. And I chose you.”
Your chest tightened at how… earnest he sounded. There was no guile, no smooth charm. Just raw, beast-like devotion. He’d been courting you the only way he knew how. And you’d been accepting everything without a clue.
“You said I’m your mate,” you said carefully. “But what if I don’t feel… ready for that?”
His eyes flickered. “Then I wait.”
You blinked.
“I do not take,” he said. “I give. Always. Until you give back.”
You stared up at him. “Even if it takes years for me?”
“I live long. I can wait.”
Your heart felt too big for your chest.
Then you reached out—slow, cautious, and brushed your fingers over the back of his hand.
His breath caught.
“…I’m not saying yes,” you whispered. “But I’m not saying no.”
His wings twitched slightly, his tail curling around your porch like a barrier. You half expected him to roar or make some triumphant noise, but instead He lowered his head to your hand, and pressed his warm, scaly forehead to your palm.
A growl, low and soft, rumbled from his throat.
It sounded like a purr.
Weeks later…
You sat on your porch, legs tucked under you, a blanket over your lap. The shiny stones had been arranged into a little circle beside you. A bowl of soup sat nearby.
A shadow passed overhead, followed by a familiar gust of heat and wind.
Sylus landed quietly for someone his size. He approached slowly, claws tapping the wood.
“You are back” you smiled.
You reached into your pocket and pulled out something small—clumsy, handmade. A necklace you’d woven with leather cord, threaded with one of the moonstones he’d brought.
You held it out, and he stared, surprised.
“You said dragons give. But I want to give something too.”
He took it, slowly, like he thought it might disappear. His claw curled around it carefully.
Then, with deep reverence, he tied it around one of his horns.
“I will never remove it,” he said.
You laughed softly and leaned back against his warm side as he sat beside you.
You still weren’t sure where this path would lead.
But he was warm. Loyal. Fierce.
And most of all, he waited for you.
You looked up at the stars and smiled.
“…Maybe being with you wouldn’t be so bad.”

Forging A Blasting Rod
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-My personal blasting rod.
A blasting rod is a specialized magickal tool used in witchcraft and ceremonial magick, primarily for baneful workings, commanding spirits, protection, and energy projection. Unlike a traditional wand, which channels and directs energy gently, a blasting rod forcefully projects power, making it a tool of will, authority, and raw energy manipulation. This guide will walk you through selecting materials, crafting, and charging your blasting rod.
Understanding the Purpose of a Blasting Rod
A blasting rod is used in high-energy workings, including:
• Commanding spirits in ceremonial or necromantic magick.
• Cursing and hexing with focused intent.
• Banishing unwanted energies with force.
• Defensive and protective magick, repelling negativity.
• Directing raw power in aggressive spellwork.
It is a tool of action, unlike a regular wand, which can be more neutral or passive in nature.
Choosing Materials
Wood Selection (Powerful & Commanding Woods)
The rod should be strong, sturdy, and hold commanding energy. Some of the best choices include:
• Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) – The traditional wood for blasting rods, used in baneful magick and spirit work.
• Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) - Another favorite for blasting rods, used in attack/defense magick, blood magick, and baneful magick.
• Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana) - Formidable and strong when dealing with unwanted forces.
• Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) – Protective and potent against unwanted spirits.
• Oak (Quercus spp.) – A wood of strength and dominance.
• Yew (Taxus baccata) - Symbolic of death and doom, ideal for baneful magick and interacting with the spirits of the dead.
• Holly (Ilex aquifolium) – Often used in aggressive and defensive magick.
• Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) – Excellent for curses, hexes, and protection against harmful forces.
If possible, gather the wood ethically—from naturally fallen branches rather than cutting from a living tree. Some traditions believe the wood should be taken from a tree struck by lightning for added potency.
Tumblr media
Length & Shape
• A blasting rod is usually longer and thicker than a traditional wand, about 12-18 inches.
• It should feel balanced in your hand, not too lightweight or delicate.
Crystal & Metal Enhancements
To amplify its power, consider embedding:
• Opal (especially black) - Amplifies malefic energy.
• Obsidian or black tourmaline – For protection, banishment, and absorbing negativity.
• Quartz (Clear, smoky, or black) – Strengthens and amplifies energy projection.
• Ruby – Focuses your intention onto the target.
• Amethyst - Self destruction, nightmares, paranoia.
• Garnet - Drains energy from the target.
• Sardonyx - Returns negative energy to sender.
• Malachite - Illicits fear and anxiety.
• Meteorite - Used as an amplifier in baneful magick.
• Iron – Binding, commanding, often used in defensive magick.
• Copper - Amplifier, increases power and effect.
Crafting the Blasting Rod
Cleansing – Before crafting, cleanse the wood by smudging it with mugwort, dragon’s blood, or wormwood smoke. Washing it with saltwater or an herbal infusion (rosemary and rue work well).
Shaping – Strip off excess bark (optional) but keep some texture for a rough, commanding grip.
Symbology – Carve runic symbols, sigils, or glyphs into the shaft. Leave one end pointed or tapered for directing energy.
Adding Power Enhancements - Wrap the handle with black leather, red twine, or iron/copper wire to contain and direct energy. Affix a crystal or iron nail at the tip for added force.
Anoint with ritual oils like:
• Dragon’s Blood – Amplifies power, brings destruction.
• Wormwood & Mugwort – Strengthens spiritual command.
• Black Pepper & Sulfur – Adds potency in baneful work.
• Myrrh - Boosts malevolent power.
Charging & Consecrating the Blasting Rod
A blasting rod should be charged under intense conditions to match its purpose. Some methods include:
Consecration Ritual
• Set Sacred Space – Cast a circle or work at a crossroad, cemetery, or dark moon ritual setting.
• Elemental Charging:
• Fire: Pass the rod through flame (candles or bonfire) to awaken its force.
• Earth: Bury it overnight in graveyard dirt, sulfur, or black salt.
• Water: Dip it in storm water, ocean water, or an infusion of baneful herbs.
• Air: Hold it in thick incense smoke (dragon’s blood, myrrh, or mugwort).
Tumblr media
• Invocation of Power:
Hold the rod and speak,
"Rod of might, tool of command,
Through storm and flame, by my hand,
Channel power, force of will,
Let no spirit act against my skill."
Charging Under Planetary & Lunar Energy
• Dark Moon – Best for baneful, binding, or spirit work.
• Full Moon – Enhances overall energy projection.
• Tuesday (Mars' Day) – Ideal for charging aggressive or commanding tools.
• Saturn’s Hour – Adds banishing and protective strength.
Using the Blasting Rod in Magick
Now that your glorious rod of blasting is complete, it's time to unleash its power.
Baneful Work (Hexes, Curses, & Banishing)
• Point the rod at a poppet, target’s name paper, or spell jar while chanting.
• Direct energy into curse sigils or spellwork for amplified power.
• Break curses by striking the ground or altar with the rod.
Commanding Spirits & Evocation
• Used in ceremonial magick to bind, summon, or dismiss spirits.
• Strike the ground or altar three times when calling a spirit.
• Use it to trace sigils in the air when working with the dead or the astral.
Protection & Warding
• Point at a door or window while chanting to seal a space.
• Use it to break hexes or disrupt malevolent energy fields.
• Bury near your home’s entrance to create a protective ward.
Final Thoughts & Maintenance
• Recharge it under powerful celestial events (eclipses, storms, or planetary transits).
• Store it separately from gentler tools, preferably wrapped in black cloth.
• Never use it casually – a blasting rod is for intense, serious magick only.
A properly crafted and consecrated blasting rod is a tool of great power and responsibility. It should be treated with respect, as it embodies raw will, force, and command.

I just spent so long trying to understand that post about glass. As somebody who thinks glass is extremely cool but doesn't know a whole lot about how it's made, we're you saying that clear glass is entirely colorless by definition? Also do you have a good resource to learn out clear glass being invented in the 15th century? If not I'll Google it. I'm a history nerd so this is right up my ally. Thanks for reading all that I hope to hear back from you if it's not too much trouble.
So, for clarity’s sake (heh), I’ll start off by pointing out that photons of Visible Light do not go through glass in the same way that Radio or Microwave photons do. The scale of Visible Light is small enough to meaningfully interact with the crystalline lattice of most stones, glass included. In order to be optically clear, a piece of glass must transmit the signal coherently through its bulk mass, and emit an image out the other side. Clear glass, in response to Visible Light, behaves more akin to how an electrical conductor (like wire) interacts with electricity than an absence or void would. This is, incidentally, why we can make optical devices like lenses and glasses and telescopes out of clear glass.
Glassmaking in the Mediterranean owes much to a few key events. Firstly, there was a tradition of artistic glass working in Byzantium many centuries ago, a descendant of Glassmaking traditions from Rome and the Levant, which peaked in the 10th century.
Many families knowledgeable in such things would eventually flee the fall of that empire west, into Venetian territory. Unfortunately for the wood-framed-building-inhabiting people of Venice, the glassworks would often spark municipal fires, so in the 13th century the Doge of Venice banished them to a mist-shrouded island prison set them all up on the island of Murano, under guard, creating an Artist’s Colony of Glassmaking families.
This arrangement worked out well for all involved for several centuries. Although the Glassmakers were not permitted to leave, they had access to all the raw materials of a far-flung trade network, state protection, wealth, and prestige; and Venice had an in-house luxury export that constantly evolved as the various families of craftsmen flexed on each other, trying to one-up each other with innovations in color, hardness, and form.
The far-flung trade network was important, as it allowed for very pure samples of a wide variety of chemically active minerals to be made available to these workshops. Critically, these ingredients included pebbles of very pure quartz, and Alume Catino, a form of soda ash from the Levant.
Ultimately this culminated in the 15th century invention of Venetian Cristallo: a perfectly clear synthetic Rock Crystal Glass. This cemented Murano as center of the Glass-making world in the west for 2 centuries, until the English discovered that adding Lead Oxide to the process also produced a clear glass that was cheaper to make and easier to work.
The ability of these, and later, clear glasses to be ground into optical lenses, and the resultant invention of telescope and microscopes, would kick-start scientific elements of the Renaissance, and the relatively inexpensive and high-quality mirrors and spectacles produced would kick-start the symmetrical Renaissance in Philosophy and Moral Theory.
To circle back to your question:
Glass is a transmitter of light. A photon hits a spot in the crystalline lattice and sets off a chain reaction of vibrations in the atomic lattice of the glass, which, upon reaching the far side of the glass bulk, release an equivalent photon. In optically clear glasses, this is done in such an orderly and coherent manner that actual resolvable images emerge. That said, I reiterate for clarity: photons are destroyed and created by this process. What emerges is not what went in.
The inclusion of metal oxides such as Soda Ash and Lead oxide is necessary to furnish particular metallic ingredients into the crystalline lattice of the glass. This provides forms of long-range order conducive to signal transmission. Remember, glassy materials are defined by a variable degree of long-range order in their lattice structure. No order; you get scattering; and the light that emerges is a hazy white color. Choose particular metals to also dope your molten glass with, and the glass will emit particular frequencies: this is what we call colored glass, or stained glass. The reasons those dopants resonate at those frequencies of light are Electro-Chemical and Quantum, and beyond the scope of this post.
Glass is one of the Foundation Stones of modern, technologically advanced Civilization. Modern glass is nothing less than a Miracle of Artifice, crafted by skilled hands across dozens of generations. Our Ancestors worked very hard to give us this. It is good for us to tell their stories.
Hope that gave you a good place to start! Enjoy your journey! There is much still to learn!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound of the high-arching orchestral symphony is cacophonous in the Midsummer air and the voices of the courtiers making merry echoes loudly in your ears. From where you stand near the outskirts of the aching chasm of the Moonstone Palace's grand ballroom you can see the dancing courtiers, like a myriad of technicolor stars that glitter against the black, and the lovers as they steal kisses in the night when the music swells to its heights. Lords and Ladies entangled in the shadowed opal light of the dark palace.
The chandelier hangs above the marble floor like a great quartz stalactite; almost luminescent as it casts the room in an ethereal, silvery hue.
One solitary figure stands out amongst the crowd of courtiers, his skin is of a similar dark hue to the morose Illyrian's that flank the dias, though more golden than carob. Something about the raw power he exhibits; the way his corded arms fold over the broad expanse of his chest, or the sharp cut of his jaw, the aquiline slope of his nose, the clear violet of his gaze.
His eyes meet yours through the haze of insense smoke and the dancing tide of courtiers and memory comes back to you slowly, and then all at once. With the swiftness of the tide. The distant dreams formed in the folly of youth; some depraved girlhood fantasy as you regard the masked man once more. Only this time you note the dark lines inked into his forearms, and the tell-tale shade of blue-black hair that curls around fine, pointed ears. You would know him by scent alone; jasmine and mandarin, undercut with something inherently masculine. Bergamot and woody-bourbon.
Your High Lord.
He looks older than you remember him. His face is cast in shadows but even in the low light you can see that the once perfect planes of his face have faint lines etched into them, a testament to his many years ruling The Night Court. He’s softer than you remember but underneath the softness there’s a lingering sense of dark, raw power. You swear its so palpable that you can taste it on the air as he smiles wickedly in your direction.
Your High Lord, you chastise yourself.
All those years trying to outrun girlhood fantasies and yet, here you are, in the same place, entertaining the same notions that The High Lord might look your way.
He wears maturity well you think, he carries this world-weary aura paired with his signature dark magnetism that has your heart fluttering wildly in your chest as the dancing sea parts for him as he goes.
Your thunderous heart almost stops when those violet eyes burn bright against the dark and they’re set on you. The High Lord’s eyes glint in the silver moonglow and something akin to a smirk graces his perfect, parted lips and it’s then you realize he’s approaching you. A slow, stalk as he paces towards you, with all the feline grace of a predator.
And tonight, you are his prey.

chapter 2 - losing sight of you and all of yesterday
hehe hello lovely people! i bring to you another chapter of seasons accompanied by some fuckin swag art by my beloved friend @egggargler!!! grey really ate up with this. i love seb and abby sm aghhh DX
Tumblr media
here's a little snippet of the scene this is from :3
With a heavy sigh, Sebastian let his eyes shut and head fall to his best friend’s shoulder. She smelt like the mines —earthy and stale— and her thick hair covered half of his face, but he didn’t quite mind. If a little hair in his eye was the tradeoff for someone as amazing as she was, so be it.  They sat in silence like that for a while, Abigail at some point pulling a hunk of raw quartz from her bag to keep her occupied. The crystals were angular and sharp, but her fingers brushed dirt from them like none of that mattered. Sebastian wondered if she sometimes felt that way about him. If his sharp edges were just another part of life, something you had to accept to appreciate what he had to offer; if there was anything at all, that is. “Abby,” he said almost inaudibly. “What’s up?” Sebastian pushed his hand into Abigail’s, their fingers intertwining once she set the translucent crystal down. “Sometimes I feel like… ugh, this is so fucking stupid but I feel like a lost cause.” “Oh, here we go.” Abigail’s laugh was lighthearted and airy, so much so that Sebastian didn’t even need to look at her to know she was smiling. It almost made him want to, but he didn’t. He had nothing to smile about.

Thank you for the tag @strandnreyes and @thisbuildinghasfeelings ilu!!
Missing Moments are happening, they're just happening slowly and frustratingly 😂 but progress is progress.
-
“You’re bouncing.”
TK looks up from the block of sharp cheddar he’s slicing into bite-sized cubes. Carlos is standing at the entrance to the kitchen, arms crossed over his chest and leaning with his hip against the countertop. There’s a smile on his face, head tilted to one side, radiating in fondness.
“Am I?” TK laughs. There was a time in his life when he would have denied it. He’d resisted the charge of cute as a younger man, wanting to be strong and tough and sexy instead. Carlos assures him that he’s all of those things and adorable, and TK embraces it now.
“Excited or nervous?” Carlos asks, even though he probably already knows the answer to that question.
“They’re gonna love it,” TK says. “Excited.”
Carlos moves in close behind him. His hands cup TK’s hips and his lips press to the nape of TK’s neck. “Me too.”
“Everything was so shitty for such a long time.” TK slices carefully into more of the cheese and nudges the cubes to the side with the tip of the knife. It’s one of their fancier ones, with a golden blade and a rose quartz handle. It’s part of a set of serving pieces TK bought over the summer with the intention of giving them to Carlos for Christmas. He presented Carlos with them last week, instead, since they were broken up over Christmas and TK doesn’t want to wait another year.
“Mhm.”
“Not just with us. I barely saw anyone but Nancy for months. We tried to get together with the others but we all had different schedules so it only worked out one time. Mateo wasn’t being treated well in his new job so he didn’t seem like himself. Marjan was angry at all of us for not fighting harder for the 126. Everything was just …”
“Shitty,” Carlos finishes, and TK nods. “Tonight is going to be great.”
“Do you think we have enough food?”
Carlos laughs softly. He turns TK around and gestures at the multiple trays of appetizers and raw veggies and charcuterie. “I think we have way too much food.”
“You always serve way too much food when people come over,” TK points out.
“True,” Carlos agrees. “It’s how my mom did it. The evening was a failure if everyone didn’t leave stuffed almost beyond their limit and there weren’t so many leftovers she could fret about what to do with them all, as if she wasn’t the one who made that much food in the first place.”
Chuckling, TK rests his head on Carlos’s shoulder and Carlos wraps arms around him sideways and kisses his hair. “She’s a good host. And so are you.”

I don't like Arch Linux, and let me tell you why.
First, one of the major "selling" points of Arch is that it's light. However, if your computer isn't from, like, 1856, the amount of "bloatware" on something like Mint is insignificant, and there won't be a noticeable difference in performance between that and Arch. If your PC is powered by a potato battery and has a raw chunk of quartz as a processor, then sure, Arch might be for you. But if you're one of those people with 128 gigs of RAM and a 4090, then you have no reason to avoid bloatware like it's the plague. Besides, "bloated" distros are already much lighter than Windows, which is what the average person uses. Second, another major "selling" point is that you'll learn all about your setup. And that's partially true; you'll learn what programs do what, because you installed them all yourself. But after a while, that's done. Anything else you wanna learn, you have to go out of your way to do it, and if you have to go out of your way to learn, you could have probably learned that on PopOS or Mint. And besides, if you really want to learn Linux, using Arch isn't the way to go, studying is. Take a class or go on an online course. That'll teach you more than any OS ever could. Then, there's the whole "you have control over your system" thing. And to that, I say: You're on Linux. Almost every OS gives you control over your system. You can customize Mint as much as you can customize Arch. I would know, I use Mint with i3, and it works great. Super customizable, I don't have to put up with all the struggle that comes with Arch, and I have all the features that come with Mint. It's lovely. That just leaves the cool factor, which is a valid reason to use Arch, but I find it wears off rather quickly. After a certain point, having to tinker isn't cool, it's annoying.
To summarize my last three points: All distros let you tinker, but Arch makes you tinker, and tinkering is much less fun when you have to do it. To conclude this post: I don't see many reasons to use Arch in a personal-use PC, but if you find a reason I haven't listed here, I would love to hear it! And if you're considering using Arch, don't let me stop you. It's not for me, but maybe it's for you. Only one way to find out.

Monty feels like he's flying.
Well, that's not quite right. He knows what it's like to fly — all precision and instinct, freedom and grace. This feeling is more hazy, more boneless, more weightless even than flight.
Monty feels like he's floating.
He's vaguely aware of someone shouting in the distance, but it isn't until he's being jostled that he even thinks to look around him.
The first thing Monty sees is deep brown eyes, made even prettier but the way they crystalize with unshed tears — like smoky quartz, or maybe a jasper. “Pretty,” he murmurs, a sluggish smile tugging on his lips. He lets his eyes drift shut, because he really wants to float again. Just for a little while.
Monty is vaguely aware of being hoisted up, and when his eyes blink open again, he sees that Charles has pulled him into his lap.
He doesn't think he's ever been this close to Charles before, practically breathing the same air — if Charles needed to breathe air, that is.
“Monty. Monty, mate, are you with me?”
Charles’ lips are hypnotizing, the way they curl around words in that charming, lilting accent of his. Monty is fixated on them, even with the way they are pulling downward at the corners. “Pretty,” he murmurs again, touching them lightly with his fingertips.
Monty can see when Charles' breath hitches, and then for a moment the lips are still — that is, until they shout, “Edwin, you better bloody hurry up, mate! He's losing a lot of—well, blood.”
Panic cleaves through the haze. “Edwin's hurt?” Monty’s brow furrows, and he tries to sit up further, but Charles' gentle hands keep him still.
“Nah, mate, Edwin’s fine,” Charles shushes him gently. “Just stay still, yeah? Everyone's aces.” He smiles, but it doesn't reach his pretty gemstone-smoky-quartz-jasper eyes. “You're gonna be just fine.”
Monty sags in relief anyway, settling back into the weightlessness. “Good. He's been hurt enough ‘cause of me.”
It's hard to remember now, what happened before Monty felt like this — something about a ghost collector with an iron knife, a deviation from their plan, the distinct feeling that Edwin and Charles would be disappointed when they realized what he had done.
But at least Edwin and Charles are both safe.
Edwin and Charles, his marks-turned-friends-turned-enemies-turned-friends-again. Who welcomed him into the agency on Charles’ recommendation, because, “He turned a proper leaf at the end, didn't he?” Who have shown him kindness and trust and friendship he's not certain he deserves, who have taught him more about being human than any ghosts ought to be able.
“M’sorry,” Monty murmurs, leaning more heavily against Charles’ chest.
“None of that now, mate, yeah?” Charles says, his voice trembling more than the hand he has pressed firmly against Monty's side. “Edwin’s finishing up the potion, and you'll be good as new in no time, right?”
Monty’s eyes threaten to flutter shut, but he feels compelled to say something — something that has been left unsaid in the past few months, despite all of the painful and raw conversations that allowed them to get to this point. Despite Edwin and Charles getting together — or maybe even because of that.
“M’sorry I stole Edwin’s first kiss. Should've been you.” Monty laughs to himself, his vision going dark at the edges.
“Mate, I—” Charles breaks off in a watery laugh, holding Monty closer to his chest. “Don’t worry about that, yeah? I—” He looks up at the sky, blinking back tears.
Monty moans, the ache in his side finally cutting through the fog. “Does he know that? That I'm sorry?” His cough breaks off into a whimper. “For everything?”
Charles rests his forehead against Monty’s. “‘Course he does, mate. And for the record,” he sniffs, “we're glad. That it was you, I mean.” He holds Monty even tighter, if that's even possible. “There's so much we've never—bloody Hell, Edwin, where are—”
“Here,” Edwin says, and Monty can feel more than he can see the ghost fall to his knees next to them. “Open his mouth and tilt back his head.” If Monty were in a better state, he might be able to hear the wobble beneath the pragmatic precision.
Monty must black out for a moment, because the next thing he's conscious of the taste of something acidic burning his throat. He coughs and sputters, opening his eyes with a sudden clarity he didn't even realize he was lacking. “Ew,” he whines, startled when Charles laughs beside him.
“It's working!” Charles exclaims, having rucked up Monty's shirt to get a better look at his side. “Oh thank God! You are brills, Edwin!”
As Monty eases back into awareness, he realizes he is still curled up on Charles lap, Edwin on his other side supporting his back with a steady hand. He blinks a few times before shuddering at the distinct feeling of magic coursing through his veins.
“What happened?” Monty asks weakly, looking between their concerned faces with a rush of guilt.
Charles wipes away what must be tears with the back of his hand, but it's Edwin who answers. “You disregarded the established plan,” he chastises primly, “and took a risk that almost cost you your life. Really, Monty, what were you think—”
“Oi, love, let him breathe, yeah?” Charles offers Monty a lopsided grin that warms him from the inside out. “We can tell him how daft he is later.”
Monty flushes. “I'm sorry,” he offers. “For going after that guy without you.” As memories start rushing back, he ducks his head in embarrassment. “And for asking dumb questions.”
He's known Edwin and Charles long enough to tell that they're doing the thing where they communicate without words over his head. He may have once found it annoying, but in recent months he's found it almost endearing.
“You’re all good, mate,” Charles grins. “Got your priorities straight, don't you? On the verge of death, and you're thinking about kissing!”
An all-too familiar heat bubbles inside Monty, but before he can defend himself, Edwin pipes up, “Seems as though he's in good company, then.”
They're doing it again, Monty notes, the whole talking-with-their-eyes thing. But then they’re both look at him, so gently, so adoringly — and it nearly knocks the breath right out of him again.
He isn't surprised, necessarily, when Charles pulls him into a big bear hug. It's not out of character for Charles to show his care physically, even if this is more than Monty ever dared to dream of before.
But when Edwin also timidly slides a hand along his waist and joins in, he wonders if Death has truly come for him after all, and that this is the personal Heaven that's been waiting for him.
But there's no blue light to speak of, no pearly gates or Death personified — just Charles and Edwin encircling him in their arms, steady and warm and sure.
Monty feels like he's floating.

Writing Log: A Gnome of My Own
Monday, January 13th
Words Written: 505/500
Total Word Count: 1,106
Favorite Line:
The three shelves in the treehouse’s common area were made of firm but atrophied wood and cluttered with crystals. Bea enjoyed showing off her impressive collection, keeping them on constant display, each mineral emitting a different energy. She had rose quartz hearts that seemed to pulse with affection, petite, pebble-sized stones of white howlite that radiated peace and pointed calcite towers that sparkled in the light. Bea’s favorites were her chunks of raw, uncut carnelian with their vivid orange tones and spherical malachites with their signature swirls of varying greens. She also owned a temperamental crystal ball that glared at her menacingly, deterring her from pondering its secrets. She would not be using it for today’s divination, it was obviously upset with her.

Spell to help heal a malfunctioning elevator:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vegvisir, an Icelandic magical stave for the protection of travelers.
Scroll with the invocation "Gods and Goddesses of travelers, spirits of the land: Please heal, protect, and bless our elevator. Thanks."
Pretty little spice jar from my new favorite local hardware store (I like the vibes there).
A collection of healing crystals cleansed in salt and then charged in the light of Saturday's full moon (left to right):
Green Sandstone: "calming & uplifting" "renews & restores your depleted energies"
Fire & Ice Quartz: "cleanses energy" "balances energies" "connection to higher dimensions" [and floors, I hope]
Madagascar Tumbled Indigo Gabro: "strength & confidence" "protection" "transmutes negative energy & electromagnetic frequencies"
Aqua Aura Quartz: "master healing qualities" "interdimensional travel" [I figure if it can help one travel between dimensions then travel between floors should be easy, right?]
Raw Clear Calcite: "transmutes negative energy" "amplifies positive vibrations throughout any space" "powerful energy purifier!"
Angel Aura Amethyst: "transmutes negative energy into love" "protection from all types of harm"
Chiastolite: "strength, power, & perseverance" "protection against negative energy" "used to ward off curses & spells"
Honeycomb Calcite: "gently uplifts & amplifies energies"
Lava Stone: "grounding" "endurance & energy stability"
(Descriptions copied down from the cards at the crystals store. I don't actually know anything about crystals, I just read through all of the descriptions of all the crystals they had in stock and selected the ones that seemed of particular relevance to an elevator that keeps blowing a circuit board every time the elevator repair guys turn it back on.)
After assembling, I cupped the spell jar in my hands while focusing my intentions on "please start fucking working again, it's been a fucking week, for fucks sake!"
I gave it to the property manager this morning and he promised to tuck it into a corner of the elevator maintenance access closet. I believe that he'll actually follow through on that because the elevator repair company has been here every day and can't even figure out what's wrong much less how to fix it, and he's been bearing the brunt of the tenant ire over that.
Meanwhile, we just moved into a top floor apartment last week, the elevator broke in between loads (not our fault, the elevator maintenance company broke it during a scheduled upgrade), and 2/3rds of our stuff has been sitting in storage for a week until today, when property management finally gave up waiting for the elevator to get fixed and paid for some professional movers to haul it up the stairs for us.
So both the property manager and I have reached the point of "fuck it, let's try witchcraft."

DREAMSLEEP SPECIES (VERY LONG)
A faded vampire is often confused as a human, they can be considered human in some places however they are still a type of vampire. They actually prefer raw or medium-cooked meat of any kind; they never have a knack for blood. They can also be seen in farms, though rare.
  Vampires
~Faded Vampire (A demon/vampire mix-ish) ?
~Redstone Vampire Dominat
A red-stone vampire varys with warm colors; rarely any cool colors on their palette. They have a hard time understanding social cues, but have lots of love to give. Oftenly, they have big sharp fangs to show off with long, fluent elf-ears.
A problem with the redstone vampires is that they are nearly extinct, and tend to be used for stuff they shouldn't be. Their fangs are commonly sold in markets in the Crimsonic Ruby Kingdom.
They don’t usually have brain and brawn together, but instead one; not both. One redstone vampire could have the brawn, the other would have the brain. It cannot be a double-sided thing.
A common place to find them is Silverplain Village, or Cherrytown. Other Times, but rarely, in the Cursed Settlement.
~Riverlake Vampire Recessive
A riverlake vampire is unique to their own species; they can turn into water, or control water. It completely depends on the vampire itself and what it wants to get into. The power isn’t given, it’s learned. You cannot learn two or it ruins the entire balance. They have a more cool colortone and their shapes of eyes are distinct, they have diamond or square eyes. They have less-pointed ears and can retract their fangs.
They have the smarts, a lot of it; they can plan 6 steps ahead from said person; though some can be on the more not-so-bright-side.
Oftenly found in Hillside Swamp, Rickety Lush Ponds or Azure Lagoon.
~Noir Vampire Recessive
A Noir Vampire is one of the few dark-magic users that can be seen in the Dreamsleep map. They usually have black or gray inside of their eyes with round or square pupils. Their colors are usually darker, with black, grays, whites, pales; monochromatic.  The thing that sticks to their species is they can blend, control, or make shadows to their own demand. They can have two of them, but not all three. All three would be seen as a threat and killed on the spot. Noir vampires are feared. They have shorter, but sharper ears and their fangs are more rounded.
They can be found in: CherryTown/CherryTown Farm, Sakura Palace
~Scorpio/Redstone Mix ?
A Scorpio/Redstone mix is oftenly when one parent is of the Scorpio species, and another of the Vampire. They have sharper, longer ears than usual and have more distinguished fangs. They can have the ears, tails and fangs. However, in some manners that is overpowered in some kingdoms since the fangs also have venom in them; just like the tail. Their tails can be used to numb people.
They don’t have a particular color palette.
They can be found in: Crimsonic Ruby Palace, Cursed Settlement
~Quartz Vampire Dominat
As they are called a vampire, they still fit into the gemstone kinda things. Quartz vampires have little gems embedded into their ears and maybe some into their cheeks. They are oftenly rose quartz, moonstone or just normal quartz. They have normal canines but their ears are medium-length and sharp.
They can train to use their gems to create spikes and/or weapons, or go into something they can use for necklaces and stuff. They can specifically find gems easily, and are gentle around the edges.
They can be found in: CherryTown/CherryTown Farms, Sakura Palace, Lilac Meadow
~Blinded Vampire Dominat
This species would be long gone if they weren’t protected in the Sakura palace. This kind of vampire uses animals to look through things; say a raven or a fox. Even cryptic animals that are found elsewhere can be used. They are naturally blind in the eyes, and see things through another's eyes. Their eyes drip constantly and they have small, elf ears. Their fangs are usually used for trade so most no-longer have fangs.
They can be found in: Sakura Palace, Silverplain District, Mushroom City
~Shroom Vampire Recessive
A shroom vampire is a mushroom vampire, it has short but sharp ears with rounded, long fangs. It usually has something to do with a kind of mushroom; like it has it as a birthmark with mushrooms growing off from some places, or shrooms coming from the eye. Oftenly they have warm palettes, but cool palettes can be used too depending on the shroom.
They oftenly use plant-life as a weapon or to study.
They can be found in: Crimsonic Ruby Palace, Mushroom City
Were-People
~Werewolf Domaint
A werewolf is a curse, most of the were-people were cursed to be the way they are. Werewolves have many forms; a wolf, a werewolf, a human, and an in between werewolf and human. When a werewolf is stuck in between, it means their power is stuck in motion and won’t change for many weeks.
Werewolves are usually spikey around the edges with a sensitive side. A werewolf can change on any kind of moon phase.
In humans, they have weird spiky pointed ears showing what they are.
They can be found in: Cursed Settlement, Crimsonic Ruby Palace, [REDACTED], Smoldered Jungle, Evergreen Forest
~Werehyena Dominat
A hyena is kind of the same as a werewolf, but it is more frowned upon to be a werehyena. They have round, spikey ears in a human form but cannot be stuck in between. They have Hyena, Human, and Werehyena. They are usually the most unhinged to be around, and it is dangerous to go near them.
Can be found in: Crimsonic Ruby Palace, [REDACTED], Smokey Mountains
~Werecat Dominat
Meow meow, the felines of the were-kingdom! These were-people can be of many felines; housecats, to the king of the savannah, or the rapid runs of a cheetah. They can change from cat, to human, to were-person. They often have sharp nails, and are usually catty (get it?)
They can be found in: Silverplain District, Sakura palace, Smokey Mountains, Smoldered Jungle
~Werebear Recessive
Werebears are usually bigger, gentler creatures. They can still have a rough side, don’t doubt that. They have usually big, round, fluffy human-like ears with a distinct nose. They are usually much taller in size and are usually protective over things they like or people they love.
They can be found in: Evergreen Forest, Crimson Forest, Lilac Meadow
~Werecervidae Dominat
What are cervidae? They are things like elk, moose, deer– they are usually much gentler and friendly, never really showing a harsh side. They are constantly skittish and watching their back every moment. They have downwards, fluffy ears with tiny horns poking from their head depending on what they are. They can be Deer/Elk/Moose, to Human, to were-person.
They can be found in: Evergreen Forest, Lilac Meadow, Rickety Lush Pond
~Werefox Recessive
Werefoxes are often mischievous, tricky. They have normal human-like ears as a human, with a bushy hairstyle. They are often red-heads, albinos, or blondes. They are usually not tell-able what they are, but they can be fox, were-person or human.
They can be found in: Silverplain District, Crimsonic Ruby Kingdom, Evergreen Forest, Crimson Forest, Smokey Mountains.
~Weregoat Recessive
Weregoats are mostly extinct for the most part; but if you ever find one they are much older in age. They don’t have many specific features, and rarely use their powers so you would assume they are human.
They are found in: CherryTown/CherryTown Farms
Angels
~Dreaming Angel Dominat
A dreaming angel can walk through dreams, thoughts, daydreams; you name it. They usually control the way dreams go, though they cannot control thoughts or daydreams. They have the power to read your mind. They can choose from vivid, to nightmares, to good dreams. They can even make your dreams chaotic if they want to; it’s their path to choose.
They have drippy halos that consist of pastel colors (blue, yellow, pink) and are usually sparkly. They usually have stars in their eyes or diamonds.
A silly thing they can do is glow in the dark, its a sweet magic gimmick they have; they also have very good night vision.
They can be found in: Skystead, Skystead Praying Grounds, Lilac Meadow, Sakura Palace
~Void Angel Recessive
A void angel is in the darker range; with Noir Vampire and some other ones that will come up later. They are also named ‘The Poison Angel’. They have a speciality with potions despite not being a witch, wizard or sorcerer. They can use poison at their fingertips, and can make shadows haunt you.
They have black eye-whites and are secretive.
Can be found in: Skystead Praying Grounds, Skystead Village, Smokey Mountains, Crimsonic Ruby Palace
~Basic Angel Dominat
A Basic angel has no distinguished power, and is terribly pushed aside. They have no cool things added; and instead just live among the bird-people in Skystead.

-Bird/Angel Mix ?
One parent is a bird person and an angel; it can have bird-like wings with one color or it can have multi-color wings. Sometimes they will have halos, but they usually fade out. Depending on the bird person and Angels breed, it completely depends on what power they get.
