Summary: In most stories, Peter tends to make himself at home in Tony's penthouse. They have sleepovers and movie nights, and Peter has everything he needs right there.

Instead, I present to you: Tony gradually finding a second home within the walls of the Parkers' apartment.

The first time Tony showed up at the Parkers’ apartment, it was an impulsive decision. The formally rogue, semi-forgiven Avengers had moved back into the tower and within a week he’d needed a reprieve. Upon that realization, Peter and May’s faces had popped into his head. He didn't oppose it. He simply took off without so much as a text to announce his pending arrival. Although he did have the foresight to buy a bottle of wine before showing up on their doorstep. It was no Romanée-Conti, but he supposed the tiny corner store could only offer so much. With little debate, he’d snagged the priciest moscato off the shelf, paid a whopping twelve dollars and trekked his way up to the Parkers’ front door.

May cracked the door open, just wide enough to see into the hall. “Tony?” she questioned, then rapidly shut the door. The sound of the security chain being released could be heard on the other side. Less than a second later, the door reopened. May stood there for a moment, her eyebrows bunched together in a way that made it look like she was mentally assessing the situation. “Peter left for patrol about an hour ago. Was he- did he forget you two had plans?”

With his hands tucked neatly behind his back, Tony rocked casually onto his heels. “Nope. Just thought I’d stop by.” He brought the bottle of wine to his front, held up forward and smiled. “I bought wine.”

May’s expression shifted as she accepted the bottle of cheap wine. She still looked thoroughly bewildered, but amusement was starting to shine through. “I- Okay.” She blinked, took a few steps back, and held the door wide open. “I’ll grab some cups.”

Tony took that as an invitation and entered the quaint entryway. May led him though the small open living area. He glanced around, debating where to sit. There is a round wooden table with mismatched chairs on one side of the room and a well-loved brown couch on the other. “Table?” he asked, as May disappeared into the narrow galley kitchen.

“Sure! I'll be right there.”

Irondad fic ideas #58

You know that trope where a rogue sorcerer knocks Peter's astral form out of his body during a fight, and Tony finds him and thinks Peter's dead? Fic where the roles are reversed: Tony's astral form is knocked from his body, and Peter is the one to find him there. Tony has to watch from the astral plane, completely helpless, as Peter breaks down worse than he has ever seen. The kid is holding onto him and sobbing. (Bonus if he's saying something like: "Not you too, not you too," and Tony realizes he's also thinking about Ben.)

Somehow the other Avengers get Peter away. In some of the Peter fics, Tony carries Peter's body from the battlefield back onto the jet. Peter is definitely strong enough that he could do that too, if he still couldn't bear to let go. Tony follows them all onto the jet, still invisible in his astral form. He sees the shock and grief in his team, and it's more than he was expecting, but nothing is as bad as watching Peter stare down at his motionless body, believing that he's just lost another father.

Back at base, Dr. Strange shows up for some reason and realizes what's going on. He does the big reveal / sudden fix and gets Tony back into his body again. The first thing Tony does is reach out for his kid, who is immediately hugging him so tight and breaking down.

Extra points if the dad thing is explicitly stated, either with Peter calling him Dad or with the Avengers understanding the whole time that this is Tony's son.

Because the trope the anon requested is one of my favorites. I just LOVE it when they fight lmaoooo not in a toxic way but as in ''I care about you! I'm trying to protect you!'' sort of thing. I like this trope because I LOVE LOVE when Tony shows that he cares that much about him and when Peter shows how much he wants to keep Tony around, it’s his third father-figure and of course he’s going to be terrified of the thought of losing him. 

I also love this reverse card of Homecoming where we see Peter putting a wall between them instead of Tony. Usually starts with Tony trying to reach out after what happened in HOCO and Peter trying to act nonchalant about it because he doesn’t want to act as he did in HOCO. I LOVE IT.

The Argument by LadyAnneNeville After Peter picks a fight with Tony whilst dealing with the pressures of both school and his internship, Tony tries to work out how to parent correctly.

Good Intentions by happyaspie Tony is invited to give several days worth of lectures at MIT and Peter is actually really eager to have him so nearby. The excitement only lasts for so long before Tony being so close become a bit more of a nuisance than expected. This leads to several petty arguments, a lack of communication, one big blow up and eventually... amends.

He should have nightmares, shouldn’t he? After what happened to him? And on top of that, no Spider-Man. Not that I’m complaining exactly, but… have you ever known him not to want to be Spider-Man? It’s in his DNA and I don’t mean the bite.” Before he can reply she says with more emphasis, “It’s not him, Tony. I know my boy and this… this isn’t him. Something’s wrong.”

After the snap Tony goes to the Parker's apartment in Queen's to retrieve anything Peter left behind linking him to Spider man before the building is sold. Even though he is gone, Tony feels the need to protect the kids identity. Angst ensues.

It took a second for Steve to register that Tony was joking around because of the monotone way he delivered it. There was no emotion in his voice, cynical or otherwise. He was almost robotic, uncaring, smiling at them like they’d never left, but it wasn’t the same smile. It was plastic, a mask.

Then Tony met Steve’s eyes, and Steve’s heart sunk at their emptiness.

Something was very, very wrong.

I might never see you again, Tony thinks, allowing himself a fraction of a second to hold Peter like he never allowed to happen before. There’s so much he would like to tell him, so much he would love to tell Pepper, to hold her in his arms again, but he can’t - there’s no time, he has to get to Strange and the stone.

“Oh, I’m not going to do anything. You are,” he says, placing the gun down on the floor. “Well, technically you have a choice. Either you can kill your boy, or you,” he says, pointing at Peter, “can shoot Iron Man. I’ll leave it for you to decide. The survivor will be free to go, never to hear from me again.”

(In which Peter and Tony face the hardest decision they've ever had to make.)

time...to speak on an irondad dynamic that I feel is criminally underused even though I made it up in my head and haven't shared it before.

So. Peter Parker loves sports. We know that. In Civil War he says he wishes he could play football, and there's an entire short of him trying to go to an NBA finals watch party. But it's like...so glossed over. Why. I deserve wannabe jock Peter Parker.

But here's what we also deserve: Tony, rich kid Tony, building computers at 7 like the nerd he is...knowing absolutely Nothing about sports.

Sure, he threw the NBA party and sat courtside but that was like...a celebrity thing. That was a status thing. He was more worried with what he was wearing and who was on the guest list, Peter was the one invested in watching the game...Tony literally had his glasses on at the game he was probably texting Pepper during it asking her to explain what was actually happening lmao

But anyway...I just love the concept of Peter just...enraged at some new recruit's stats and on a full rant while Tony is struggling to figure out what sport the kid's even talking about.

Tony not being able to tell the difference between a soccer ball and a volleyball, not realizing that the reason Peter's acting like it's the end of the world is because his favorite hockey team didn't win the Stanley Cup.

Tony trying to bond with the kid and having a vague idea that people take kids to baseball games, and he's expecting a nice, if a little boring day with his sweet, polite little mentee and then spending the next few hours watching Peter shoving hog dogs down his throat while somehow also screaming curses and vague threats at the other team's batters at the top of his lungs...Peter just goes like Full Queens Accent when he's angry so he's screaming "MISS! MIIIISSS! YA REALLY THINK YA CAN BEAT NEW YAWK! YA FUCKA!!" and poor Tony's just sitting next to him like "😱😱😱😰😰😰🤯😵"

Peter can list any team's line up and stats, and goes feral whenever a game is on tv, no matter the sport, and Tony tries So Hard to follow along and engage in the kid's interests but the damn poindexter just,,,,cannot understand what's happening lmao he's just like "ah yes I see he has gotten...the bäll? how wonderful!" and Peter's like "MISTA STAWK THAT'S THE AWTHER TEAM WHAT ARE YA TALKING ABOUT ARE YA A NEW YAWKER OR NOT" and Tony's. a little terrified lmao

Rhodey is using Tony's phone for something one day and sees a bunch of google searches that are like "what to do if your kid is a jock" "how to handle jock child" "what is my kid talking about" "sports translator???" "how to make my kid think I understand sports" "wikihow do I parent a jock" "how to get my teen to stop cursing at sports" "how to make myself like sports" "how to handle your kid having different interests than you" "how do I make my teen think I'm cool again". Rhodey screenshots them all and posts them on twitter.

Tony feeling really great because he got a bunch of football merch for Peter's birthday one year but he got merch for like....the dolphins or something and Peter's thanking him and being grateful but Dying inside lmao

When Peter's in college the giants somehow win the super bowl and the city goes absolutely insane. riots and partying every where in the streets. It's beyond out of hand. Tony's watching news coverage and is in the middle of texting 'does spidey need some help with this mess?' When the news camera shows Peter and his roommate standing on top of a car, shotgunning beer, both of them shirtless and painted in the team's colors, leading the immediate crowd in a very explicit celebration song.

Just....there's like a common trope of Manly Man Sports Man having a rough time trying to connect with his nerdy son and I just think it's hilarious in reverse...let Peter get a little more confident and join the school football team and Tony comes to every game but can't even tell which team is which much less pick his kid out on the field. Having absolutely no idea who actually won until Peter tells him. I love it. I deserve it.

Summary: Peter and May quarantine at their apartment for COVID-19 and since May is still a working nurse, Peter can no longer visit the Compound or tower. The team hasn’t seen Peter in person in about 3-5 weeks and they are falling apart, especially Tony, and finally Pepper calls and gets Peter to come quarantine at the tower instead. They surprise the avengers and everyone gets extremely protective and clingy over Peter after not seeing him for so long. (Also they find out about Flash bullying Peter because why not)

Review: I really loved this story! I love how Tony makes sure Peter knows he can eat as much as he wants/needs, and also makes sure that he knows that he doesn't have to "pay him back" just for taking care of him. I liked how he said the same thing Peter did in Civil War, how if he knew there was something he could do to help Peter, and he didn't, and then something bad happened to Peter, then it would be on him. It was a really nice detail

Also, the sequel was perfect, I'd been wondering how Tony would react to seeing him again! I loved this so much

Summary: Tony finds Spider-Man on the roof of his favorite coffee shop.

A few days after Siberia, it hurts to move—to reply to Spider-Man, even, when he tries to talk—but Tony, while irritated, assumes it’s a one-off incident.

It’s not.

Tony keeps leaving the too-quiet Tower for his caffeine fix, Spider-Man keeps popping up against the shop’s heater vent, and as weeks turn into months, Tony finds himself with a new friend. And if Spider-Man is a little dodgy here and there, well, Tony figures everyone’s entitled to their secrets.

Or, Tony doesn’t recruit Spider-Man for the Avengers’ Civil War. Maybe if he had, he would’ve caught that something was up with the guy before things went to shit.

Could Have Stayed Beside You (Could Have Stayed For More) by @seek-rest This one is really new and so good. The focus is on MJ and immortal Peter, but it’s incredibly done so I can’t leave it out. Tuck Everlasting AU.

wandering mind (series) by celluloid WIP. These are a lot darker than the other ones I have on this list, but I’ve fallen in love with them. During the fics, Peter struggles with hallucinations and stays with Rhodey in his apartment after the events of FFH. A real number is done on Peter in this one and I. Love. Every. Second.

for peter by @hailing-stars Fics set during the five year skip that somehow include Peter are my favorite. They’re few and far between, but when they’re done well, they’re amazing. Peter as a dog is perfect.

You Got Lost While Getting Older by nuragay I have two immortal Peter fics in here and I’m not sorry. Immortality always provides a gorgeous opportunity for angst, and it was used very well here. Tony is immortal too!

Excalibur by ciaconnaa WIP. Anything of theirs is always so fun to read. This is my favorite work, but I also like Vein Drain and their holiday series. Excalibur takes place after FFH and deals with the effects. Harley’s in there!

good kid (series) by @hailing-stars Another one of Hailing’s works! This was one of the first fics I ever read that wasn’t a field trip trope fic lmao. May leaves Peter with Tony because she doesn’t know how to feel about his identity as Spider-Man. Beautiful combo of angst and fluff.

Avengers Vandal by @whumphoarder & @awesomesockes I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder. There’s lots of shenanigans between the Peter and Ned that are enhanced by the video format. I can’t say enough good things!

The Third Option by Uncertainty_Principle WIP. This is another classic, and it’s an AU depicting if May and Ben divorced before Ben got shot. It’s a little dark, but the whump is amazing.

Fall On Me With All Your Light by @frostysunflowers WIP. An Uncle Tony AU that took my heart with the first chapter. There’s lots of appearances from different MCU characters in ways you wouldn’t expect that make you nod your head and say “oh, that makes sense.” Still can’t get over how cute the grocery store scene was. 

Green Glowy Slime (series) by sameuspegasus Another one of the first fics I ever read! Made me fall in love with outsider perspectives- and Monica Warren.

his greatest creation (series) by @peter-stank​ They have the best biodad AUs. Period. Also, baby Peter isn’t something I knew I needed until I read this fic. Mary Parker was very unique in this, and I enjoyed her character a ton.

2020 writer’s year in review

total number of completed stories: 9!! this includes tumblr ficlets as well as Runaway Baby (Getaway Darling) because it’s completely written, just not entirely edited/posted

total number of words: 212,756 only counting completed content, but 243,553 including my major WIPs/unposted content currently. can you tell i don’t like posting things until they’re completely done, lmao.

fandoms written in: the mcu/irondad/spider-man fandom and avatar: the last airbender!!

looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? i wrote way, way more than expected. i was privileged enough to have quarantine give me an astronomical amount of free time, and my word count exploded as a result.

what’s your own favourite story of the year? this is hard because i wrote a lot of things i’m honestly very proud of this year, but if i had to choose, ashes to ashes might edge out the competition. i love azula a lot, and i adored exploring her character in the au i created in that fic, not to mention how amazing the feedback i received for it was.

did you take any writing risks this year? uh, not gonna lie, most of my fics are kind of? risky? because i don’t fall into tropes often and, instead, usually hope that people see my stuff and click on it because they go “huh, i’ve never seen that before.” that being said, if i had to pick specifically, Blips on the Record made me a bit nervous to post because i wasn’t sure how people would respond to a sympathetic portrayal of flash, given how much flack he gets from the fandom, not to mention the heavier topics it involves.

most popular story of the year: cycle through, babey!! its length and consistent updates worked in my favor, and it got a lot of love, all of which i am very, very grateful for.

story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: i’m grateful for any feedback i receive on my fics, but i do wish more people interacted with my black cat morgan au, Runaway Baby (Getaway Darling), simply because i love to talk about it so much!! that being said, i understand that’s it’s a very niche au, and i adore every person who gives it the time of day regardless. <3

most fun story to write: black cat morgan! black cat morgan! i have had so much FUN with Runaway Baby it’s insane. every time i read my own writing in that fic, i make myself laugh, and that’s an amazing feeling.

most unintentionally telling story: djdjdbdbdhd probably ALSO Runaway Baby. morgan as i characterized her has a lot of me in her, and i also infused the story with a lot of dynamics that exist within my family. : )

biggest surprise: cycle through, full stop. at nearly 145k, it’s my longest work to date by a long, long shot. i had no idea i had a story that big inside me a year ago, and it blows my mind to think that i saw it through to the end.

Trope: Sick Fic

WARNING! Graphic depictions of mental illness

Also I am not an expert in this field, nor have I ever dealt with or been close with someone who has dealt with this type of illness. So I apologize for any medical/character inaccuracies or misrepresentation.

Tony wakes slowly, trying to ignore the incessant badgering going on inside his head, telling him to wake the hell up! It’s like a heavy fog of something. Something important that he should be feeling or doing, yet no recollection of what that something might be. Like, that instinctual, panicked drive to achieve a task without even knowing the importance of the task to begin with… so he ignores it, and tries to pull himself back into sleep, and away from this confusing state of consciousness.

Then, the bright morning sun shines through the open window, opposite his bed. He hums in annoyance when the sun hits his face and his eyes blink open lethargically to shoot a quick glare before they’re falling shut once more. Then he grunts and rolls over, away from the light because he wants to savor this moment of restful sleep, and he wants to stay far away from whatever the hell was happening outside of this peaceful cocoon of unconsciousness. He had just a simple taste of it moments earlier, and, god, he didn’t want to face that right now. He can’t even remember the last time he actually got a good night's sleep. Not after--

Thanos!

That wakes him up. He sits upright in bed, chest heaving with the strain of his harsh breaths.

Thanos.

He remembers Thanos. And then he remembers the battle. And God, Peter. He remembers losing Peter… He remembers the five years without Peter… the five long years of watching the world try and fail to recover from the disaster, and the stagnant state that was doomed to linger for generations to come.

He cradles his head in his hand and trembles. Oh god, why couldn’t he just forget? Why couldn’t he just forget about everything that happened and continue life with Pepper and Morgan, happy and healthy? Why couldn’t he just forget about Peter? And the battle? And Thanos? Because it was over! It was all over, everything’s been done, and there’s no way of reversing it...

But then he remembers something else from last night. Or at least he thinks he does… it’s at the tip of his tongue, a tap of information dawdling at the back of his mind and he strains to remember. He closes his eyes and clings to the small string of hope intertwined with the memory, but he can’t recall the picture. It pieces together slowly. The memory of a visit from old friends… then he remembers juice pops…. But there’s something in the middle. Something important that is being repressed and it seems that the harder he tries to reach for it the farther away it pulls…

Time travel! He figured out time travel!

He lifts his head from his hands and stares ahead at the window opposite his bed and he grins. Time Travel. He has a chance at bringing Peter back! He has a chance at fixing the mess of a world he’s created!

He throws the sheets from his legs and swings them around, ready to stand from the bed and get to work. But a sharp pain in his hip slows him down and he winces. And then it’s in his leg. And then it’s in his shoulder. Then his back. And his neck… and why did everything hurt? It was a constant dull throb that he hadn’t even realized was there until he started moving. Did he go out as Iron Man again and get injured? He didn’t think he did… but he grabbed for his left arm, cradling his elbow in his right hand as if on instinct as he pondered all the facts.

He rolled his shoulders a couple of times and moved a bit slower this time as he stood from the bed. Then he turned around to pull up the sheets and make his side of the bed just as Pepper had trained him to do over the years, but he paused… those weren’t his sheets. Then he looked at the bed as a whole and… that wasn’t his bed. Then he glanced around the room, brows lowering in suspicious confusion as he found that this wasn’t his room either.

He shook the thought out of his head. He probably ended up crashing at a friend’s house and he couldn’t remember since apparently his brain wasn’t working anymore… but then he walked to the dresser across the room and pulled open a drawer as if it was second nature and he paused… because these were his clothes.

What was going on?

“FRIDAY, where am I?” His voice sounds old and unused as he spits out the words with a tired rasp and his frown deepens. This didn’t feel right.

“You’re at home, sir. Would you like me to get Pepper for you?”

Pepper was here too?

He shakes his head in abject confusion, spinning in place with some hope that maybe he’d recall a reason as to why he was sleeping in a strange room and why his clothes were in said room.

But there was nothing other than the dull sense that he should be a bit more concerned with his apparent cluelessness… but he wasn’t actually all that concerned, just confused. So, he just shrugged his shoulders and hsi brain deemed the matter unimportant, tossing any thought of it away like a doll as he began pulling on his clothes slowly, being mindful of his sore muscles and squeaky bones. It took him so much longer than it should have to get dressed. His coordination now was apparently horrendous and fitting his legs into pants seemed much harder than it was the day before... But he had to hurry because there was something very important he had to do!

...There was something important he had to do... He paused for a moment and turned back to look at the bed. There was a reason he got out of bed....

He sits and thinks for a minute eyebrows creased and lips pursed as he focused.

Then-- oh yes! Time Travel! He stands up and hurries to the door, and soon he’s down the hall. He is no longer bothered by his unfamiliar surroundings and he’s walking aimlessly through this stranger’s home in search of his lab, in fact, it’s as if his brain has totally dismissed the notion of this being a strange house to begin with. He just continues on his way, hand braced against the wall as he stumbles down the hall, completely clueless as to where he’s going.

He wanders aimlessly, mouth puckered in thoughtful confusion as his brain fights to both recall where this lab of his is and also maybe what he should make Morgan for breakfast.

He passes by a wall of picture frames, and his eyes slowly gloss over the images encased in them, smiling reminiscently at the sight, without actually recognizing or mulling over them. It’s an instinctive action, and he pays no mind to it. Much more focused on his important endeavor.

To make Morgan and Pepper a tasty breakfast…

His brain changes course, now looking for the kitchen instead of his lab. And he spins in a slow circle, heading in the direction he just came.

He comes to stop in front of a childishly decorated door, unsure why the sight of it has him frowning again, because surely this is Morgan’s room. What other child’s room would it be?

He opens the door slowly, a small smile spread across his face as all the harsh worrying faded behind this new eagerness to see his daughter.

But instead of his daughter, he finds a young boy who couldn’t be much older than six. Tony cocks his head to the side as he tries to put together what must be happening.

The boy was familiar, so he must know him already… he had big brown eyes and curly brown hair, and the way he was looking at him meant, surely, they must be close.

“Good morning,” the boy greeted with a wide smile, and Tony made himself smile back.

Then that’s when it hits him! This boy must be Morgan’s friend! He pays no mind to the noticeable differences in the room compared to Morgan’s. Then he comes to the oh so obvious conclusion that the child must have slept over last night and just because he doesn’t remember doesn’t mean squat at this point, because it’s really ridiculous how he’s having such a hard time. He’s always had such a flawless memory… he supposes old age may just be finally catching up to him.

“Good morning, kid,” he greets, offering a small half smile as he works his way into the room, subtly searching for his daughter. She had to be in here somewhere. The boy, though, didn’t seem very pleased with his response. His mouth falls open in worried confusion and his eyes widen as he watches Tony slowly scuffle around the room, lifting blankets and pillows, and kicking around piles of scattered legos as he walks through. “Have you seen Morgan? I was gonna make breakfast.”

He turns back to the boy, his name escaping him, just like everything else, and waits for a response.

The child slowly puts the picture book he was reading down on his lap and slowly gets up from the bed, approaching him with tentative steps and reaching for his hand. Tony pulls his hand away quickly. He couldn’t be that close to this kid, god, he must still be star struck by Iron Man… he hopes the boy isn’t only friends with Morgan because of that, because if he is he wouldn’t hesitate to pummel him into the ground, child or not.

“Umm,” the boy speaks slowly, wringing his hands together in a familiar show of nervousness… Tony wryly remembers Peter doing the same thing, and then the panic and sadness is back because Peter is gone. He’s gone forever… and there’s nothing he can do about that…

Wait! There was something.... But what was it…

He doesn’t have much time to think because the kid’s talking again and what he says is much more interesting. “Umm, Grandpa… Morgie’s at the big kid school, ‘member?”

Grandpa? No that couldn’t be right. The kid must be mistaking him for someone else. So, he writes it off as a simple mistake and moves his thoughts elsewhere.

The kids must be playing a game. Morgan is always playing games, so he supposes he should probably play along. “Oh is she now?” He asks in a playful voice, crouching lower as he continues scouring the area for any signs of his daughter. “She must know then that big kid school means lots and lots of work and no play time.”

“Umm, yeah…” the boy squeaks nervously from behind him.

But then Tony shoots up, eyes flying open as he takes a sharp breath. He remembers!

Time Travel! He figured out time travel! How could he forget?! He needs to get to his lab to figure this out so he can get Peter back! He needs to get Peter back.

Only problem is he keeps getting lost in his own house… and he can’t find the stupid garage! He growls in frustration and runs a quick hand through his hair, wincing at the sharp throb of protest his shoulder puts out at the quick, unexpected movement.

Then he turns to the kid, slowly… because maybe the kid might know. Morgan’s probably taken him in there to explore many times even though she knows she’s not supposed to.

“Hey, kid, you know where my lab is by any chance?”

The kid just looks at him and Tony finds himself getting a little frustrated.

“C’mon kid. We don’t got all day! This is time sensitive. Literally.”

The kid gave him a look, one filled with doubt and masked forbearance. “What is it you need ta work e’sactly on Mista’h Tony?”

And Tony’s just so taken aback by the serious and mature tone that he has to pause and his mind draws an ugly blank. He stands there for a moment, struggling to grasp onto any string of thought or feeling, but it’s not there… he can’t remember.

Oh god, he can’t remember… what does he need to remember?! It’s important! He knows it’s important! God, he can’t forget this, not now! Peter needed him! He needed to save Peter, but he couldn’t. It was impossible.

“Mista’h Tony?”

There was that voice again.

Tony breathed in sharply through his nose and spun in a slow circle as he absorbed his surroundings. None of it was familiar. He had no idea where he was, what he was doing here, or how he got here. He was confused and scared and he didn’t want to deal with it anymore… it had to be a dream. That’s the only explanation. That could be the only excuse for what’s happening, because this doesn’t happen to him. It just doesn’t. He never forgets anything.

“Grandpa?”

And now the voice sounded worried, like maybe they were hurt.

But Tony didn’t know what to do.

“Hey Grandpa, le’s go to Daddy, ‘kay? He makes you feel better all the time.”

The little boy takes his hand, and this time Tony doesn’t pull away. Instead he blinks rapidly, throat and jaw spasming as his mind slowly overloads with panic and a muddle of blank information overlaying his ability to think... and it was terrifying.

He didn’t realize he was being led out of the room until after they stepped past the threshold. He turned his head left and right in hopes of spotting something he might recall, but there was nothing. Only this little boy who seemed so, so familiar. But then he’s passing by the pictures again and he actually has the clarity of mind to look. And, thank god, he sees a familiar face.

“Pepper!” He shouts, tugging on the boy’s hand and pointing eagerly to the picture of him and his wife posing together on what looks to be their wedding day… but it’s not like he remembers it being… “That’s Pepper. Where is she?”

The little boy looks up at him, mouth downturned into a sad frown and eyes sparkling with tears. “She went to see Morgie. Tha’s why we’re here Grandpa.”

“Who’s we?” Tony questions in a panic, chest convulsing with panic. “Where am I?”

“At your house,” the little boy answers shyly, tugging desperately on his hand to spur him into movement once more, “C’mon. We gotta get to Daddy ‘fore you cry.”

“Before I cry?” Tony scowls, then turns back to the pictures. “Why don’t you piss off kid. I don’t need your help!” He shakes his hand out of the child’s grip and turns away from him.

That must have been the wrong move, because the kid wails, and dives for him again, grabbing onto his leg and clinging to him. Tony doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t know enough about the kid to call his parents, all he knows is Morgan is never having him over ever again. The kid is wasting his time and time is sensitive! He needs to get Peter back and he needs to do it now!

“Grandpa! ‘Member me p’ease! It’s Anty, it’s Anty! I’m sorry!”

And those words, and that face, and those eyes, make him gulp. Surely this was a dream, he chanted as he felt him slowly losing himself to the first memory that flashed across his brain like a motion picture would a TV screen. Of Peter, in his arms, turning to dust, and him, with nowhere to go and nowhere to be because he had lost, so what was the point.

Then he was being startled again by a new voice this time.

“Ant?! What’s going on? I thought I told you to come down for breakfast,” a loud, but tired voice carried down the hall. It was familiar, but it was deep and carried a new sense of maturity, and Tony’s stomach did an odd somersault as his brain raced to match the voice to a face.

It wasn’t until he saw the face that his heart stopped.

It was Peter.

It had to be.

“Ant, what’s wrong?” Peter asked, voice dropping an octave as his worried eyes settled on the little boy clinging to his leg. “C’mon, let’s get off Gramps before you hurt him.” Then Peter looked up at him. “You alright Dad?”

Tony couldn’t get the words out. Dad?

Alright? Alright?! Was he alright?! He should be asking Peter that question!

“Peter?”

This time Peter actually looked at him. Really looked. And it must have been the way he said the kid’s name, because now Peter’s expression matched the little boy’s from earlier. Despondent with a sad, but comforting smile that was able to somehow make him feel a little more at ease.

“Hey, Dad, it’s okay. I know you’re confused…” Peter’s hand lands on his shoulder and he’s still too stunned to say anything. “But you’re okay.”

“You’re dead,” he whispered softly, eyes glassy and wide as he drinks Peter in with new fervor. His mind can’t seem to connect the dots because all he can see is the young boy he held in his arms, not this grown man standing before him.

Peter’s face falls though. “Oh…” he breathes softly. “Well, um, that’s a pretty long time ago, Mr. Stark.”

No more Dad. He notes to himself.

Tony shakes his head. “Four years…” tears form in his eyes and his chin quivers. “It felt like forever.” And then he’s hugging him, pulling him close to hold him tightly. It doesn’t even cross his mind to take note that the kid is at least a foot taller than him now. And when they pull apart Tony doesn’t even try to hide his tears or his confusion. Everything was just so overwhelming.

But then Peter turns to address the little boy named Ant apparently and Tony watches. “Why don’t you go down and help Mom and Benny make breakfast?”

“But-but I wanna stay with Grandpa!” He clings tighter to Tony’s leg.

“Gramps and I will be down soon. I just have to talk to him about something first, okay?”

Tony watches the child go

“I-I-I-- who’s he?”

Peter looked at him, a proud smile on his face.

“That’s Antonio. He’s five.”

“Oh,” Tony whispered, eyes glassy. “Okay.” And then his brain is spinning and he’s spiralling back through the memories from this morning, suddenly recalling his mission. He had to bring everyone back and save them, and now that Peter was here, he could help!

He grabs Peter’s shoulders and grins wide in excitement. “Peter! We have to get to my lab. There’s a chance I can bring everyone back. I figured it out last night. All we need to do--”

Peter’s hand settles heavily on his arm, humorless smile spreading across his face. “We don’t need to Mr. Stark. You already did that.”

“What? That’s impossible. I just came up with it last night!”

“No, that was about 18 years ago. It’s okay now. Everyone’s okay because you saved them.”

Tony shook his head defiantly. “Nope. Not possible.”

“Well how do you think I’m here then?” Peter questions him softly. And Tony has to draw a blank at that one.

He opens his mouth and searches his brain for a logical solution, but then his brain discards the notion and he’s back where he started, ignoring Peter’s question. “We need to hurry Peter! We need to fix my suit and yours. And then we need to go get Steve at the compound.”

“Dad, listen to me,” Peter’s voice turns serious as he grasps Tony by both his shoulders and forces the man to look at him. The title itself gets Tony’s attention more than anything else. “Everything is fine. Everyone is fine.” Then Peter’s eyes get a bit glassy too. “You’re just a bit sick and you can’t remember that sometimes… do you trust me?”

Tony nods slowly and Peter continues.

“Then trust me when I say that everything is okay. You saved me and you saved everyone else, okay?”

Tony nods again, gulping visibly as his brain fights against him in a constant battle between absorbing and understanding the information and blocking it out as if it was never said.

“Okay, so let’s go downstairs and eat some breakfast. And maybe we can call Pepper and Morgan after so you can say hi.”

“Morgan?!” Tony shouts, head whipping around to find her.

“She’s not here right now. She’s at MIT, working on her second phD.”

“Oh,” Tony’s shoulders dropped and the throbbing in his back returned.

“Yeah, so let’s go downstairs, hm? The kids have been bugging me about when you’d wake up.”

“Kids?”

Peter smiles at him and it warms Tony’s heart.

“Yep, three of ‘em. You already met Ant, but you still gotta meet Ben and Katie.”

“I-I,” Tony’s eyes widen as the information settles, “you’re a Dad.”

Peter nods slowly and chuckles. “Yep. And when I told you the first time, I honestly think you were more excited to be a grandpa than me and MJ were to be parents.”

Tony’s face brightens with a wondered smile. “I’m-I’m a grandpa?”

“Oh yes, and you spoil them rotten. They love you way too much, it’s ridiculous.”

“Really?” Tony’s voice feels small and he can feel a few more tears on his cheeks, but he’s smiling through them.

“Really,” Peter affirms, putting his arm around Tony’s shoulders to guide him. “And maybe tomorrow it’ll be better and you can remember a bit more, but don’t worry about all that right now. They understand you don’t feel so good sometimes; we all do.”

Tony looks up at him, mouth suddenly dry. He couldn’t put into words how upset he felt that he couldn’t remember the past 18 years, watching Morgan grow up, watching Peter become a father, and being a grandfather. “I’m sorry I don’t remember,” he whispered, “I wish I never forgot.”

Peter looks back at him, a sad smile on his face. “It’s okay. You’ve taken care of me when I was sick so many times, so now it’s my turn.”

“You didn’t sign up for this Peter.”

I shouldn’t feel strange gushing about fanfiction like this, but personal posts are a bit of a rarity on this blog. I somewhat consider myself to be the librarian of the fandom; doing my best to help others find what they want and so it’s not often that I get to talk about what I would like to see. With that being said, I’ll do my best to not go on fangirling for very long… 

I’m a sucker for most AUs, even those some might consider outlandish like mermaid, gender-bend, historical, harry potter, etc. I especially enjoy homeless!peter and bio-dad!tony stories. A favorite trope of mine is when Peter is keeping something secret, whether that be he’s struggling mentally, hiding an injury, trying to keep his identity under wraps, or anything really- I LOVE IT. My favorite type of fics usually fall under hurt/comfort. I love angst and I’m not really one to shy away from reading about heavy topics, but most of the time I’m in the mood for a happy ending. Fluff is nice, but I find that I usually prefer my fluff in smaller doses (not always the case though… I have read a fluffy fic that was almost 35,000 words before). Good hurt/comfort fics are either pretty well balanced in their angst to fluff ratio OR the angst and whump is pretty intense, but if it’s written well than that happy ending just feels so much more rewarding and deserved. Now, bit of a role reversal here, so it almost feels weird to ask… but if you want to comment a fic rec for me below you are welcome to.

If you’re are a writer looking for inspiration or prompts, you don’t have to wait for Whumptober or Febuwhump (although these month long writing challenges are amazing and fun to participate in). There are other places to look for inspiration. 

 The Irondad fandom is so very lucky to have many creative authors and artists. Many times I’ve seen prompts sent into a writer’s blog to be expanded upon, or someone taking an art piece, gif set, or incorrect quote and writing a fic based off of it. Explore around, check out both authors and artists tumblrs, you might feel inspired! 

 If you are looking for one-word prompts and a bit of a challenge, you can always check out @irondadbingo. I’m not sure if they are currently making custom cards, but they do have some fun ones like an AU Card and a Popular Cliches Card that anyone is welcome to use! Be sure to tag them if you use a card :) 

 Finally, a favorite blog of mine is @irondad-fic-ideas. It is run by the lovely @the-reverse-mermaid and is a treasure trove for new and unique ideas. If you are looking for something more detailed than a one-word prompt, this is a blog you should check out! Anyone can send in a fic idea AND anyone is welcome to write their take on that prompt. If you do decide to use one of the prompts sent in, tag them and they will feature it on their blog! Here are just a few prompts that have been sent in whose concepts I’ve enjoyed and would personally like to see many writers takes on them.

Happy FFWF! Which underrated trope would you like to see more fics of?

Happy FFWF! 💕 I'm not sure how underrated this is exactly, but for Irondad, I love reading the hurt Tony + protective Peter trope! Especially with physical whump ehehe. I like the reversal of their usual roles, plus it's always fun to see Peter go full badass mode when someone hurts the people he loves.
