This pretty nebula’s shape and color in this view is reminiscent of a robin's egg and lies about 1,500 light years away. The cosmic cloud spans about 3 light-years, and is within the southern constellation Fornax. Classified as a planetary nebula, egg-shaped NGC 1360 doesn't represent a beginning though. Instead it corresponds to a final phase of an aging star. Actually, visible at the center of the nebula, the central star of NGC 1360 is known to be a binary star system likely consisting of two evolved white dwarf stars, less massive but much hotter than the Sun. Their intense and invisible ultraviolet radiation has stripped away electrons from the atoms in their mutually surrounding gases. The predominant blue-green hue of NGC 1360 is the strong emission produced as electrons recombine with doubly ionized oxygen atoms.

so i’m going on vacation this weekend and i’ve been putting off choosing what doll to take with me because i can’t be without a doll i would legit get too sad. but i think i have to go with my Robin because she truly comforts me like no other doll. i didn’t want to risk damaging her during travel or something but i think she would remind me the most of “home” so she’s coming with meeeee.

With my dog's help, I found the first eggshells of the year! Last year a critter, probably a raccoon, stole robins' eggs and brought them to the same spot most nights, and I'd find the empty shells in the morning. I collected probably 20 eggshells, cleaned, dried, and powdered them into blue powder. It looks like the same spot is being used to drop off these shells again this spring.

And we saw our first clover flower of the year this morning too!

Crackhead Bird Facts

So back a few weeks ago, a robin decided to make a nest on my front porch. Specifically on my light in front of my door. I’m guessing it’s because we always leave it on so it’s warm - I know very little about why and where and the intricacies behind where birds build nests so this is my best idea. 

I can say, without a doubt, that the process of her making the nest, laying her eggs and having her babies has been THE COOLEST process to watch happen. 10/10 would recommend watching robins do their shit. 

As I write this I’m sitting with my front door open and my front window blinds pulled so I can see everything that happens, and I think after this Intense Observation I’ve learned some handy facts to keep in mind for next time. 

1) Robins make their nests insanely fast. Literally no nest one day, next day *poof*, nest. Also they will make their nests out of literally anything - ours has a strip of plastic hanging out of it like an ominous Halloween decoration a child made (#SaveThePlanet)

2) Robin mom likes me because I am The Food Bringer. I have left her a plate of food and water every day this week and she hangs out on a bush near our door while I change out the plate. I take pictures of the nest and the babies and she just hangs out and watches me or flies over to our bike and sits until I go away. 

3) Robin mom does NOT like my fiancé, or literally anyone else that enters or exits my home. Only the Food Bringer may be within proximity of her babies. 

4) Robin chicks look like angry old men with big mouths and I was not prepared for that. 

5) Robin dads stick around and help with shit with raising the babies. Ours just got done sitting on our front steps for ten minutes staring at nothing and also everything at the same time. Male robins officially have more paternal drive than my actual father. 

6) Laying in front of your open front door on your side to watch birds makes you look fucking insane when somebody walks by. 

7) Watching robins try to find worms is single handedly the funniest experience. They just.. Stab the dirt repeatedly until they find something. Idk I thought there was more like, evolutionary process or something fancy and ingrained in their DNA to find worms or whatever but no, they just stab the dirt until they find food. 

8) The mom feeds her babies SO FAST. She pops in with a worm, flies to the nest and is gone again to find more worms all in ten seconds. We love to see a girl boss winning. 

9) Their noises range from Cute Standard Bird Noises to Actual Bird Screaming and you have no idea what you’ll get until it happens. 

10) Robins hang out 99% of the time within vicinity of their nest. Which for us means either in the bushes by our front door, on our front porch, on our bike, in our flower bed by our front door, or in the tree across the street. It’s like being stalked by a tiny angry person with 360 degree head turning abilities to constantly watch your every move.

What inspires you to create the story?

Honestly? Everyone in the community! Everyone worked together to piece the ideas that are the basis of Robin's Egg. Someone just needed to be the glue to put them into a working fic and I thought I could do it well.

I had just gotten into the DP x DC fandom thanks to @impyssadobsessions with their art of Batman trying to shield Danny from the rain... then I found the Vacation Crashers fic and I was down the rabbit hole. I wanted to write something but was very out of touch with Danny Phantom since I haven't watched it since I was a kid and I only knew the basics regarding the DC universe.

So I was looking through the dp x dc tag to get an idea and the idea of Damian having to take care of Danny was so funny and cute! There was so much you could do with it while keeping within the boundaries of the characters. The sheer shenanigans that could ensue! Plus everyone was really excited for the idea so I thought I would give it a shot. Thinking that about....30-40 will be happy that someone decided to combine the ideas in the initial post.

I was not expecting for it to blow up as it did.

I posted chapters 1 and 2 within a day of each other because I was so excited and almost hit 10k hits in 3 days. Which broke me because I was floored by such a positive response. Robin's Egg had been my first real attempt at writing again after finishing my first long fic of 3 years that ended 3 years ago. I've written a few other things since but nothing this ambitious.

It astounds me how big Robin's Egg has grown. It is officially my biggest fic on Ao3 and it is truly amazing the amount of love it has been given. But it's true that YOU all are what inspire me.

I read ALL of the comments. Without fail. In chapter 2 I borrowed a line from one of the commentators (they are sourced in the notes) and it's basically the catalyst of why the Batfam call it an egg. Three chapters later in Pegguin Problems, Damian gets trapped in a pool that Danny froze over. That's because there were SEVERAL commenters who said it would be funny if he froze over a glass or a punch bowl while Damian was fighting one of his siblings. All I did was step the idea up a bit and set it up in a way that fits more with the narrative. There are a few other examples but these two are the ones I remember the most.

Since the basic idea of this fic was the collaboration of several ideas by lots of people, I view the entire fic as such. I'm just having fun putting all the ideas together and adding my own little twists and ideas to it for my own part. That's how I want it to keep going as well. If someone leaves a good comment or has a fun idea, I'll find a way to work it in. Though some have already guessed some of my own ideas that haven't happened yet (I will neither confirm nor deny said ideas).

So long wordy post short... This story was basically inspired by you all.

Danny is Damian's older brother by about 7 years.

Danyal often sneaks things in for Damian to have and would protect him from punishments, when Damian was 6 he watched his grandfather kill Danyal for making one too many mistakes, he thought he was gone but that same night he witnessed Danyal claiming into his widow at first Damian was over the moon that he was alive but then his mood soon sour when Danyal tells him he has to leave, that if he stayed and grandfather finds out he will have him gutted and have his head cut off to make sure he can't come back. Before he leaves he gives Damian a teddy bear.

4 years later Damian is living with his father and has been living with him for a couple of days when he sees Danyal climbing through his window, but this time he is injured when Damian finally gets him into his room he sees what the injury is and is horrified to see that Danyal has a cut shape as a Y that goes from his shoulders to his pelvis and he see that he is bleeding both red and Lazarus green. Danyal tells him that he does not have much time to explain everything but what he can tell him is that he is something called a halfa now and he's about to go into his core which is pretty much his soul and needs Damian to hide and protect it until he is healed enough that he can reform. Damian agrees and watches as Danyal disappears and an orb the size of a fist falls he catches it before it hits the floor, Damian decides to hide it with his most prized and well-hidden possession which is the teddy bear but he goes the extra mile and cuts open the bear and places Danyal inside.

After that day Damian starts to carry the bear everywhere he puts him in a drawstring bag and goes about his day he does not acknowledge it when any of the other bats ask what he is carrying around. This went on for a week and a half before the bear was found, Grayson had forced him to go on a walk with him only for both of them to get rain when they got back Alfred handed them towels Damian set the bag down which he had taken off to protect from the rain when Drake snatched the bag and open it and pulled out the bear he went to grab it back only for Grayson to take it from Drake and start to tease him and keeping the bear out of his reach at this point the others that were in the mansion had gathered around. Damian finally had enough and pulled out a hidden dagger and yelled "You will hand me back my brother's resting place right this instant or you will lose the hand that is holding him" That made everyone stop and freeze Damian was able to grab the bear back and flee back to his room where he checked over the bear to make sure Danyal was okay not realizing the chaos that he has caused.

can’t believe it but vacation is almost over! i’m a little sad because i have to leave my baby sister and mom but i miss my dog so i’m excited to be seeing him soon. i have also missed all of my other dolls and gotten a little bored if just having one doll tbh. usually i have a different doll with me for each day but i’ve just had robin (and cinnamoroll) with me. i can’t wait to see my girls again

DPXDC Prompt #75

Jazz wasn’t sure what she’d find when she snuck down into the basement. Her brother strapped to a table being vivisected wasn’t one of them. She sucked him into a thermos to heal and booked it into the speeder to Clockwork. Clockwork took him and promised to take him to a place where he could heal.

Damian was just getting home from school when he felt something was wrong. He remembered that ritual his grandfather made him do that made him the ghost kings protector and knight but he never knew what that exacted entailed yet. Suddenly something that looks like an odd futuristic soup thermos appears with a note to protect the king on it. He cautiously opens it and a ghost does appear a small 5 year old that looks suspiciously like his twin he was ordered to kill when they were both 5.

Danny wakes up as a 5 year old at the one place he avoided since becoming a Fenton at 5.
